Suppresson image Frontenac

--Pierre5018 (talk) 16:24, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Pictures - Copyright violation

Hello Yann

As per your messages from recent days, I have began the process to obtain the proper license agreements from the copyright holders to the indicated e-mail " permissions-commons@wikipedia.org" but the e-mail keeps getting rejected. Please advice in regards of how to proceed. Thank you.--Juancescritor (talk) 22:38, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Juancescritor: Hi,
Once the permission is received, the images will be undeleted by the OTRS volunteers. There is a big backlog, so it takes time. Reagrds, Yann (talk) 09:23, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Asking help

Hello Yann. How do I know if a site uses the correct copyright license or not? (such as http://shahidblog.com/) I am a novice. Regards Hananeh.M.h

@Hananeh.M.h: Hi,
The issue here is not that the license is not correct, but that the site is not the owner of the pictures. A license can only be given by the copyright owner. Hope that helps. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:20, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So how do I know which site is actually owner of the image (in general). Hananeh.M.h
@Hananeh.M.h: Hi,
There is no absolute rule, but if the image was previously published elsewhere with another credit, there is a good chance that the website is not the owner of the image. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:31, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,Can I ask you the images of my article will be returned or not?Hananeh.M.h
@Hananeh.M.h: Hi,
Probably not. Sorry. The copyright of these images belongs to press agencies, who very rarely give a permission. Some Wikipedias (including the English language one) allow local upload under a fair use rationale. See w:Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:28, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted content needed

There's a question at the en:wp help desk about File:Joan Maynard and Sam Jackson.jpg; the uploader says basically "what more information do I need to provide". I can't give a solid answer without seeing what the uploader gave in the first place. Would you leave me a talkpage note with the copy-pasted contents of this file's description page? Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 21:20, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Nyttend: This is the image from [2]. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:24, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the uploader says "I uploaded several images", but all I can find are the deleted one, File:John W. Cooper and his Barbershop Routine.jpg, and File:John W. Cooper and Samuel Jackson.png. Could you give me the Barbershop Routine description, as well as the descriptions of any other images that have been deleted? Nyttend (talk) 21:22, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is [3], from [4]. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:26, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but that's not quite what I meant. Could you copy/paste the contents of the description page to a place that I can access? Nyttend (talk) 00:12, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

EXIF

I don't know of any program which does it, but there's no reason why the PNG couldn't theoretically accommodate EXIF (or any other arbitrary binary metadata). Found http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ with a little searching. The main problem is establishing a standard so that different programs could intercommunicate with each other (see http://pmt.sourceforge.net/exif/drafts/d020.html for one proposal). Verschure

Hello Yann. On File:P.J.M. Verschure groter.jpg Amsterdam City archive claims "Non-copyright restrictions". It seems I've already pissed them off and they've threatened to send me a bill for the use of it. So that's why I nominated for speedy deletion. I'm sure the image will be back someday, but not by me . Any chance of a speedy now you know this? Thanks, Sander1453 (talk) 10:25, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Résolution Copyvio du fichier Château de Houetteville

Bonjour Yann,

Gregofhuest (talk) 14:31, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File:Toyota logo.png

Hi, you deleted File:Toyota logo.png, and closed the DR as "kept as above". I think I get what this means (= you kept the SVG), but it might require a quick fix on COM:VPC#Clarification_of_PD-textlogo_rules by somebody who's bolder than I feel at the moment. –Be..anyone (talk) 04:19, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yann, you removed the {{No permission since}} tag I added to File:Vidya Balan holding Apsara trophy.jpg. How did you determine BolywoodHungama had the right to CC release the Apsara Film and Television Producers Guild Awards? As I understand it the {{Cc-by-3.0-BollywoodHungama}} license tag is only valid for Bollywood Hungama parties or events (as I noted on the notice on the uploader's talk page). Have I misunderstood the scope of the OTRS permission? —RP88 (talk) 22:55, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Because it meets the criteria defined by Hungama: all images from their website taken in India, except screenshots, wallpapers, vacation pictures, or promotional posters and similar exceptions. Regards, Yann (talk) 22:58, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so when the license tag says it is only applicable to "Bollywood Hungama parties/events", this is not actually a condition for CC release that BolywoodHungama mentions in their OTRS ticket, it's just a clarification added by a Commons volunteer to avoid COM:DW issues? —RP88 (talk) 23:02, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think all Awards ceremonies are included in the "events". Regards, Yann (talk) 23:12, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Since I can't read the OTRS ticket I thought the license applied to "Bollywood Hungama parties and Bollywood Hungama events", not "Bollywood Hungama parties and all other events". Thanks for checking the OTRS ticket for me. —RP88 (talk) 23:15, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Image of giovannipaolo II

Hi, Yann: This image is in my property, because I'm the only heir of the author of the painting Portrait of Giovanni Paolo II: Anchise Picchi. All the images in Internet are posted by myself. Anchise Picchi, died in 2007, was my uncle, and I'm the only heir of all his works.

The same is valid for Our Ldy of Pisa.

Your sincerely. Lido Pacciardi

Lpacciar (talk) 08:16, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Lpacciar: Hi,
For all documents published elsewhere previously or created by other people than the uploader, a permission is necessary. A simple email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org would do. Please see COM:OTRS for the details. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:02, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree that the work is on display permanently. It might have been there for a long stretch of time (for which we only have an editors say so), the entire duration of the works lifespan, and in particular that of the photograph used in the billboard, will continue indefinite. It is thus not free from copyright restrictions under FOP. Vera (talk) 21:18, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How do you know that? If the uploader says that it displays permanently, I would believe it, unless you have a proof showing the opposite. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:19, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Cautionary principle puts the burden on the uploaded, and as I just explained photographs can't be permanently displayed during the entire duration of their natural life since that is not in the nature of photographic works. Vera (talk) 23:48, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
First you have a wrong understanding of the precautionary principle. This requires deletion if there is some doubt. Looking at the evidence here, there is no reason to doubt what the uploader is saying. Second you need to read again the whole FoP page. There is no "nature of photographic works" principle. This is a road sign sponsored by a commercial entity, it is quite common nowadays, and there is no reason to think that it is a temporary installation. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:56, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Even if the billboard is there for 50 years, the artwork still isn't on display permanently since photographs can exist in perpetuity. Besides that, it very much looks like a billboard. Just taking a user's word for it that it isn't, is reckless. --Vera (talk) 12:04, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't even understand or answer what I wrote above... Beside, your sentence doesn't make sense in itself. Yann (talk) 12:30, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cordialement, Yann (talk) 18:44, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Made In Space photos

I'm relatively new to the Wikipedia community. I received your message re: copyright violations for images I uploaded for the Made In Space, Inc. page I am creating. I am an employee of Made In Space, and these images are images we've released to the general public for usage, via our press images. All of these images are copyright free. How can I get these noted as such? Thanks for your help! ~ KimberlyWylie (talk)

@KimberlyWylie: Hi,
All recent documents previously published, made by corporate entities, or for commercial reasons need a formal written permission. Please see COM:OTRS for the procedure. The images can be restored once the permission is received. Please ask me if you have questions. Regards, Yann (talk) 16:09, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war - please help

Since I started to upload my images from Abkhazia I've got a lots of problems with user from Georgia: User:Giorgi Balakhadze He doesn't even hide that he is not objective with Abkhazia topics (when you look to his profile on Commons and English Wikipedia). According to that, he is starting edit wars with me. He's giving a Georgian names (instead of English names) of categories and that is violation of Neutral point of view about the controversial political topics like we've got about situation in Abkhazia. I ask you as an administrator to do something with that. Halavar (talk) 21:22, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Halavar: Hi,
Which pictures or categories in particular? Regards, Yann (talk) 21:41, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Today's situations here: Category:New Athos St. Apostle Simon the Zealot Monastery Frescoes and here: Category:Pitsunda St. Andrew the Apostle Cathedral Frescoes. The problem is that he using Georgian names intentionally, knowing that I'm against of that practice. Also, here on Commons we've got a rule of using always the English names of the categories. He doesn't respect that 2 rules (NPOV and English names) and also he doesn't respect my request to him to not interfere. I kindly asked him, and still he is ignoring me and the rules. Please do something because I really don't know what to do and I really feel, that I waste my time, insted upload images on Commons, I must waste my time on the stupid edit wars with young politically targeted guy. --Halavar (talk) 21:50, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Halavar: Hi, I suggest that you use the procedure of Commons:Categories for discussion. Of course, English names are preferred, but I have no idea personally about the proper names for these categories. I also informed Giorgi Balakhadze about this. Regards, Yann (talk) 22:15, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In the first case, according to the article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Athos we clearly see, that New Athos is a proper English name and Akhali Atoni (in Georgian alphabet ახალი ათონი) is a Georgian name. As for the second case, when you look here: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Pitsunda you will see, that Pitsunda is the English name, and Bichvinta ბიჭვინთა (bičvint’a) is a Georgian name. Simple case. --Halavar (talk) 22:27, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Jackthomas321: Buying a DVD or a poster doesn't give you the copyright. Please read COM:DW and COM:L. Regards, Yann (talk) 23:50, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know what you are talking about. Anyway, i will read them later. There is movie posters or dvd covers or vhs covers or music covers on every movie page. For example, aamir khan movie pages. If "movie posters or dvd covers or vhs covers or music covers" doesn't give a copyright to users, then how they exist on movie pages. I am sure that the makers of those posters didn't put them on wiki pages. Companies(poster makers) don't care about putting their pictures on wiki movie pages. Only normal users do it. They would take it from internet and place it in wiki. My friends have done that. Jackthomas321 00:02, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Jackthomas321: Yes, that's the problem. You really must read that before uploading anything here. All images you have uploaded are copyright violations. If you upload any other, you will be blocked, as you were warned before not to do so. English Wikipedia has a special exception, called "fair use", but this is not accepted on Commons. PS: You don't need to ping me on my talk page. Regards, Yann (talk) 00:05, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
File:Uexkuell Jakob von Streifzuge durch die Umwelten von Tieren und Menschen.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Ayatollah photos

You approved the following photo - File:Ayatollah Ashrafi Esfehani8.jpg - because you checked out the page on sajed.ir where the uploader found it, and confirmed that sajed.ir is GFDL-compatible.

But where did sajed.ir get the photographs in the first place? Google Translate isn't particularly strong on Farsi, and I may have missed a line entirely, but I don't see anything that specifies that they owned these photos; plus, I've been able to find some of that uploader's pics on other sites, without the watermarks. Without further detail on provenance, I don't think Commons can host any of those pictures. DS (talk) 14:52, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Portrait Baron Bouvier

Merci d'avance.

Bien cordialement, --GalmicheM (talk) 17:00, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oui, cela me semble OK. Cordialement, Yann (talk) 17:03, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deletetion request

Hi, Yann. In esWiki, when we do not agree with an administrator decision, we are used to writing to her/him directly before any kind of "official appeal" as an act of respect. So I apologize if in Commons users are not used to this and I am disturbing you.

Anyway, I cannot understand how you can think that this picture, which is the source of this one, could be "PD-ineligible" and "Not enough creativity" as you solve in this deletion request. And, as I think the law says, if the source picture is not "PD-ineligible", nobody is allowed to crop it, or that is what Berna's Convention says. Furthermore, ¿do you mean that I am allowed to upload the source picture as "PD-ineligible" aswell? Just this, I do not understand. Thanks and greetings. Albertojuanse (talk) 13:16, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, French copyright law says that originality and creativity are needed for a copyright (French droit d'auteur) to exist. Criteria for ID pictures are very strict, and there is no place for creativity. Please see [5] or [6]. This is the exact opposite of what is required for a copyright. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:23, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This is your personal opinion. Sadly commons does not follow personal opinion, but facts. --Lucas (msg) 15:15, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No. This is legal reasoning based on facts. Yann (talk) 15:19, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This is exactly what I said, we are not lawyer (and even if we were it doesen't matter here, because we rely on external sources). You have do demonstrate what you say, not just give your opinion. --Lucas (msg) 15:35, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, there is something that I do not understand: you deleted this page as pd-ineligible, there is a procedure which confirms this choice and not you changed your mind, am I right? --Lucas (msg) 15:39, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Closure of File:Photo_identitie-Said_Kouachi.JPG

The discussion was begun on 8 January, you closed it on 13 January. According to COM:DEL, deletion requests should be held open for at least a week, except in instances that are an obvious delete. Geogene (talk) 20:04, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Logo AS Vitré

Bonjour,

File:Chérif Kouachi.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Commons fair use upload bot

Hi Yann,

Noting the last paragraph on Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_SPVII_DrFresh26, it would have been really helpful if the files could have been left on Commons for a few more days while the FUUB is in trials (in fact I was about to re-run the bot in a partial test mode to automatically see the templates get correctly swapped this morning, when the files were deleted). The logos would have been localized. As neither I nor the bot have access to deleted files, this can not happen. -- (talk) 09:49, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@: Hi,
I can temporary undelete them. Would that be OK? How much time do you need? Regards, Yann (talk) 09:53, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The rewrite to core is tedious (I am more familiar with compat) and a system of public logs has to be added before it is in a non-passive mode, so possibly a week. I may add a note to AN so that people think about using the templates early in the life of relevant DRs, and now may be a good time for interested admins to suggest any functional changes. In this case, I think any risk is low, and the templates are highly visible on the file page, so I doubt anyone would complain about a 7 days delay in removing the files; hopefully less. -- (talk) 10:06, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. Seven days seems a bit long to me. I think it would be OK to undelete them for a day or two, if you agree. Please tell me when your bot is ready. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:09, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There are a few more days of piecemeal rewriting to be done. I'm afraid that since the images have been deleted for more than a few hours, it will be likely that where they were used on Wikipedia they have already been removed as redlinks (thanks to housekeeping bots there). Even using SQL queries I don't know how to recover this information in a repeatable way cross-project. The FUUB cannot logically restore these, it would only ask for speedy deletion as the global links will have vanished by now. Unfortunately I have to write these examples off. I suggest that if anyone wants to have these restored locally as fair use, you advise them that this must be done manually. -- (talk) 13:00, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Exif-data

Dear Yann! I am a user of the older generation and attach importance to my privacy. I am therefore aware out the Exif-data from my photos. It is still my privacy when I was where. This simply is nobody. Each man is also illuminates exactly as before by phone, internet (especially wikipedia or commons) etc. My privacy I would like to receive at least when taking pictures. I leave the phone at home even when I do not need this. I think that one can judge without exif-data including whether an image is good or not. I ask you politely to respect this. Best Regards --Steindy (talk) 22:33, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Steindy: Hi,
Sure, I understand perfectly. I won't oppose an image just because there is no EXIF data. It would be great if sensible data could be expurged, and only technical infos kept (camera, lens, aperture, speed, ISO, etc.). Regards, Yann (talk) 13:57, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This is possible using exiftool. Somewhat more work than simply stripping of EXIF completely, but possible. -- Smial (talk) 18:54, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Yann, Unfortunately I only have a program with which you can delete the exif data, but not edit individually. It is also significantly faster, with a single click even delete the data of 300, 400 or more photos than all these pictures to edit them individually. Photographing should remain a hobby not work. I'm also so no longer according to the processing of photos. Best Regards --Steindy (talk) 23:30, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Monstrous mass deletion / Mass vandalism by Yann

You stand RESPONSIBLE for the monstrous deletion of 66 high quality images (in fact ones of the best on wikimedia in terms of resolution) for no grounded reasons - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_Roman_Z Permission required from whom? I am the author who created (draw) and uploaded these images and explicitely stated on my deviantart page: "You may freely use my drawings wherever you like...no copyright problems with me. Download, use in your sites, blogs whatever...I am also sharing my drawings on Wikimedia Commons." http://zakharii.deviantart.com/ What else do you need? Out of scope? Why cant images of St. Nicholas, rabbi Nachman, penguins, birds, Ukrainian cossack, Jesus be used for educational and illustrating purposes on wikipedia? This is all great illustrative material. If you have something against a particular image - that should be analyzed and approached INDIVIDUALLY! The reasons you supplied ARE NOT SUFFICIENT GROUNDS FOR SUCH A MASS ACTION (The bulk deletion of dozens of high quality images that are FULLY in line with wikimedia copyright policies) what makes you submission act a VIOLATION AND ACT OF VANDALISM. Please consider depriving User:Yann of administrator´s rights. Thank you. --Zakharii 06:04, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Roman Z: No more comments from me, apart what INeverCry told you. You need to read COM:SCOPE if you want to participate here further. And stay civil of course. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:14, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding copyrights violations

I think you need to first understand that those files were uploaded months ago (I joined wiki in mid-October). Before you further threaten new wiki users, please take a look here. Saadkhan12345 (talk) 13:47, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Saadkhan12345: Hi,
It doesn't matter when the files where uploaded. Even 10 years later, there still would be copyright violations. Please note than Commons has its own policies, different than the English Wikipedia. And I am well aware of the rules regarding newbies. Seeing the number of copyright violations you did, a warning is well deserved. So please do not upload files where you are not the owner. In doubt, please ask. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:19, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Of course it doesnt matter when the files are uploaded but threatening a user to be blocked for uploading copyrighted pictures 10 years ago does matter when the user wasnt so aware of the rules (regarding newb times). Saadkhan12345 (talk) 15:27, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Alextorrej: Hi,
For understanding copyright, please read COM:L and COM:DW. For this logo, you need to add a license, and possibly to provide a permission from the University. Regards, Yann (talk) 20:28, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm allowed to use it, because I'm a student of that University.

@Alextorrej: Hi,
You are allowed to use it, but you don't own the copyright, that's a big difference. And since you don't own the copyright, you are not allowed to offer it under a free license to others. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:35, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Looks OK to me. Yann (talk) 16:49, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have to question this decision. I dispute that this is below the threshold of originality, and is PD-Text. Yes, it can be broken down to basic shapes, but the same can be said for just about anything. It is not in any way simple text. More specifically, I want to point to Commons:Deletion requests/File:New York City F.C..svg, an svg version of an identical image that was nominated for the same reasons the same day and deleted as being non-free. Clearly there are others who agree that it is not simple enough to be public domain. As such, I think it should be deleted. Even if there is some doubt, better to be safe in this regard. Oknazevad (talk) 19:24, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, The problem is not to be safe, but to be right. In this case, I think the first decision was wrong. It is not unusual that wrong decisions are taken here regarding copyright. Actually it happens all the time in both ways, deleting stuff which shouldn't be, or not deleting stuff that should be. Nothing extraordinary, we are all humans, and we are not professional lawyers. Regards, Yann (talk) 23:39, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Yann. I have some question about your conclusion. As I explained on my deletion request, there's no source that this flag is really existed. JAWP wikipedians came to conclusion that this flag is fake, and removed all this file from JAWP. So I posed deletion request but you decided to reject my request and keep file because this file is still in use.

My question is following:

  • "In use" status prevail over unsourced status? I suspect it's conflict with Wikipedia's policy.
  • Isn't this file "out of scope, not educationally useful" file? I think this file is not good for educational use. Because regardless of no evidence, This file is being widespread used by a good number of Wikipedia as if correct flag.
  • If I want to remove this file from Commons, do I have to delete this file all version Wikipedia before I re-pose this deletion request?

Sorry for taking your time but I'd appreciate if you reply this. Thanks :) --Lyijykyyneleet (talk) 15:56, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lyijykyyneleet: Hi,
Yes, "In use" status prevail over all other considerations, excluding copyright issues. Commons policy is that as long as a file is in use in one of the project, we keep it if there is no copyright issue. By definition, if it is used, it is useful and of educationally value.
I suggest that you care about a project instead of about a file. If this file does not suit you, create another one, and use the new one instead of the old one, and let others deal with the old file. Regards, Yann (talk) 16:26, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply and suggestion! I understood it. I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with Common's policy, because I'm almost new on here after all... well, you suggested that I create new correct file and upload it, but I didn't have any alternative file to upload instead of old one because Republic of Ezo didn't use their own flag(they used ordinary Japanese flag because they were remnant of old government, not secessionist group). So I thought about it, how about to replace this file's image to other image, for example Japanese flag? If it's OK in terms of Common's policy, I'll suggest it on talk page of this file. regards. --Lyijykyyneleet (talk) 16:03, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

-- ChristianFerrer 14:05, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

URL path /...uploads/2014/12/... implys that the image was uploaded to external site in December 2014, i.e. after it was uploaded here. Now, if this is enough for not assuming good faith and for reasonable doubt, we should ask for permission to be sent whenever someone reuses image that was at first uploaded to Commons as own-work. 193.40.10.181 14:18, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the Warning for copyright violations posted on my talk page. I would like to apologize for not logging into my account often, this is the reason why I didn't see the possible copyright violation requests. All these images were found on www.flickr.com (with CC license), were created by me or I had been given the permission to upload them here.I am not very familiar with the "source" and "licensing template" so this was probably my mistake.

I uploaded 2 new images with what I believe is the correct source and licensing. Could you please check them, so that my account is not blocked due to a mistake?

Thank you in advance - Mpaoxi (talk) 15:00, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

your full protection of User talk:Russavia

I hope you will not mind this note, it falls under working on images. That User talk:Russavia is now full protected will inhibit notice of deletion requests concerning his massive body of uploads. I've been following that, and I assume others have as well, in an attempt to conserve his work. As suggested by Fae,[9] would you reduce this to semi-protection? Thanks. --Abd (talk) 16:37, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

UNESCO images

Hi Yann

Thanks very much for the endorsement, if you know anyone else or any groups that would be interested please let them know.

I'm very pleased you're nominating one of the images for featured picture (File:The Aral sea is drying up. Bay of Zhalanash, Ship Cemetery, Aralsk, Kazakhstan.jpg) do you mean the blue circle? I think it's actually the hole where the anchor goes through and just looks weird with the sky behind. I also really like File:Sabha,6, getting ready to walk to school from her house on the borders eastern Gaza strip, where she and her family are still living in tents.jpg a lot.

Thanks again

We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Since your images were published on the web before being uploaded here, a formal written permission is needed. Please see COM:OTRS for the procedure. The images would be restored once a permission is received. Please ask if you have questions. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:03, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Yann, while I'm still pretty convinced this photo was copied from somewhere else, the link you provided doesn't seem to be the original source. The file's size is pretty much the same, and it was only posted there on January 20th, after dos Santos' death, and together with several other pics taken from the net as well. So you don't think that site took it from Commons rather than the other way round? Regards, Axolotl Nr.733 (talk) 11:49, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Image review problem

I can't review this image that you recently uploaded a new version of. When I try to edit it I get the following message:

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:
This page is currently protected from editing because it is transcluded in the following page, which is protected with the "cascading" option enabled:
Commons:Auto-protected files/wikipedia/zh

What gives? I don't know what a "cascading option" is but found COM:P and this image does not appear to comply. Surely reviewers must be able to complete their review be it good or bad. This one is good but I can't complete it. Cheers Ww2censor (talk) 18:15, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of File:Vince_Molinaro_2014.jpg

Hi Yann, I was hoping to use File:Vince_Molinaro_2014.jpg in an article I'm drafting but now it seems to have been deleted. I can't see the details now, but last time I looked (i.e. before it was deleted) I seem to remember it was legit so I'm surprised it's now gone. Can you tell me who uploaded it and what rights they put it under? Thanks! SageGreenRider (talk) 20:01, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@SageGreenRider: Hi,

Yann (talk) 15:34, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This map is unused and has no historical value. Joint Council of Municipalities imposed on a supposed map of the "Duchy of Syrmia" of Radoslav Čelnik is just silly. Do you see any use of this?--Zoupan (talk) 01:16, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am not interested to maintain this picture. You can delete it, even if I would prefer to have some more specific explanations about it, because the file contains a license yet. However some Italian explained me yet what is the real problem for that picture, so go ahead. --Daniele Pugliesi (talk) 10:38, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Daniele Pugliesi: Hi,
It can be kept if you provide a complete link to the source (I can't find it with Google, so I can't review the license). The issue is that I am not sure if the site is the copyright owner of the picture. Also the mention Il contenuto di questo sito può essere liberamente riutilizzato citandone la fonte salvo per quelli a questo sito concessi e coperti da copyright rather means a license like CC-BY (Google Translate: The content of this site can be freely reused citing the source except for those granted to this site and copyrighted.). Regards, Yann (talk) 11:09, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You are the third person that wants to delete that picture. Please see what I answered to the other two people in my discussion page. However, if you want to delete, delete it, because I do not find it useful at all so it is a waste of time for me to talk about it. I just added it because it was part of a collection of picture related to a particular traditional event.
So I do not mind what you want to do with it, the important is that if you or someone else want to delete the other pictures that I uploaded with this, please let me know before to make any action so I can have the time to think what is the best thing to do.
We are humans, not machines, so I think in this case I think is more preferable and polite to open a discussion before to add templates and opening complicated procedures. I hope you understand: it is the third time with that picture and I do not want to explain every time the same thing. Just do what you want. --Daniele Pugliesi (talk) 12:28, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Daniele Pugliesi: Hi,
I corrected the source and added the review. Please bear in mind that Commons volunteers are constantly overloaded, and that they usually do not have the time to do all that. But you can help... ;) Regards, Yann (talk) 12:53, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
