Argentina (orthographic projection).svg

Hi Addicted04, i've seen your map, but it's wrong in two places:

• The South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands aren't marked as an argentine reclamation.
• The antartica reclamation is wrong because the apex of the angle should go to the South Pole, just like in this image File:Argentina (orthographic projection).png. For more information please visit this article Argentine Antarctica. Thanks. Alakasam (talk) 19:24, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Mapa de Argentina

Hola Addicted, muy halagador tu comentario, ¡muchas gracias! Pero sinceramente, no fue mucho el esfuerzo, sólo modifiqué un mapa ya existente, no creé algo nuevo como vos hiciste. Ambos mapas pueden usarse indistintamente, no es necesario borrar alguno, además ambos tienen algunos detalles a corregir. Hola Addicted. Bueno, al final, y para evitar conflictos, unifiqué los mapas de ambos en el mismo archivo. Si bien, como te había dicho, prefería que ambos estén disponibles, al final me decidí a hacer esto porque había algunas fronteras de países mal marcadas, lo que era dar pie a ciertos conflictos. De todas maneras, las versiones anteriores están disponibles en el historial, por si alguien con tiempo -y capacidad, sobre todo- decide tomarse el trabajo de modificarlos para arreglar esos pequeños errores. Ya pedí el borrado de la versión alternativa y ahora voy a solicitar el reemplazo universal de las versiones en .png. Espero que esto sea el fin de las múltiples discusiones sobre los "globo mapas". =P

Ah! por otra parte seguí tu consejo, le dí una segunda oportunidad al Inkscape y tenías razón, no es tan difícil como parecía, aunque tampoco es algo fácil. Espero que con la práctica le vaya tomando algo de mano.

RE:Wikinews

Tienes toda la razón sobre el mapa de México, el actual es más burdo, pero yo creeo que debería tener similitud con los demás mapas, de hecho el mapa original de wikinews también es burdo y no es detallado, mira; Wikinews, y cuando los mapas son burdos también son más claros en distancia (de la forma a como se usan estos logos), algo de esto se puede apreciar con los demás Wikinews que les agrege ó subí la forma burda más similar al original. Europe, North America, Asia, United States. Gracias por aceptar esta nueva forma, ya que tú subiste ese mapa de Argentina originalmente, ahora espero que el autor de los demás mapas que yo no subi originalmente también los acepte, por cierto tienes razón con las reclamaciones, en mi opinión un "reclamo" es un llamado a "verguenza ajena"-"mal perdedor"-"no acepta la realidad", porque si no fuera así, entonces todo país reclamaría lo que perdio, en el caso de México perdió la Alta California, Arizona, Nuevo México y Texas. Mira, honestamente no veo porque le das tanta importancia al peso, ni siquiera llegan a 1mb, y no todas estas imagénes subieron de peso desde la anterior, lo más preferible es no interferir con la calidad, si bien tu eres libre de hacer lo que quieras con las imagénes, de todas maneras veré la calidad de los mapas subidos originalmente con mi cuenta.--TownDown ^{How's it going?} 23:47, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Mexico maps

Hi. I've undone your edits to the Mexico state maps since your version both lost quality and increased filesize. Also you cannot just change the license and source of the images. /Lokal_Profil 09:28, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Aha, sorry a thumbnail pic was messing the stuff up so that it looked as though your upload was the one with the "fat" borders. I've reverted the one pic I had time to change. Also I realised that the nice CSS features in the original map had already been uploaded over before. Well, nothing to do about that. I'm so sorry, but the states borders are taken from INEGI (official organization of geography and demography of Mexico), the licenses should attribute the original work (Yavidaxiu and Sémhur), reason of change of these. Just a question. Why license them as GFDL [1]. The old ones was PD and GFDL is a bit "heavy" to use in other places that Wikipedia. Would you mind also adding {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}}? --MGA73 (talk) 14:24, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Since these are derivatives of dual licensed images and the use of GFDL is strongly deprecated for images, it would be really nice if you, as the author of the derivatives, chose to use the CC license for the derivatives rather than the GFDL. The GFDL isn't a license for images and it causes all sorts of licensing problems when you try to use it as such. If you could switch them over to {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}}, it would be much appreciated. Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

I can see that you fixed the problem in the SVG on 8 December. Unfortunately, this is not how the map shows up in the article. There, the countries are still missing, because it uses the PNG that has not been changed. Note that this PNG also shows up when you click the image and see the map in large. So, I am afraid that your fix as of 8 December did not help the practical case. for this reason, the map is not being used. Tomeasy (talk) 08:44, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, now you introduced another error and we can still not use the map. You colored Russian en:Kaliningrad green. Russia is not part of NATO and so isn't its exclave. Could you please reedit again. Tomeasy (talk) 09:08, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Either the image was created by someone else, or it is a derivative of someone else's work. As stated in Commons:Licensing, only the copyright holder may issue a license, so the one shown on Flickr is invalid. Always remember to critically evaluate Flickr licenses. Venezuela map

Instead of uploading a new orthographic file and mixing up both, why don't you replace the current File:Venezuela (orthographic projection).svg with your file? Chipmunkdavis (talk) 07:11, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

The new maps you are uploading are very different to the de facto standard across the maps. They feel whitewashed in comparison to the current ones, and are far less distinctive in the thumbnail form used in articles. In addition, there is much less of a contrast between the land and the ocean, as you've chosen to darken borders instead of territory. I've placed both Brazils to the side to help. Are there any reasons that the versions you are uploading are better in terms of colour? I do like how you made the latitudinal and longitudinal lines less obvious. The difference in island visibility has to do with the islands actually being in the map, rather than any particular colouring scheme. Imagine if those islands were darker, they'd be even more visible. Chipmunkdavis (talk) 03:13, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

I'm talking about island like the lesser antilles, which don't appear even when I create the border, and hence aren't there. Unfortunately I can't edit the files you've posted in my inkscape, so can't test the colours myself (locked layer?), but I thought something more along the lines of #666666 would be better for land colours. Como vi que tu has hecho varios recurro a ti. ¿Me podrías ayudar a hacer los que faltan de México o me podrías decir cómo se hacen? Globe maps

Hi, I really like your globes. In many ways they are a real improvement. God job! There's just some things that are not so nice:

• The margin/horizon looks somehow strange. What I did at my maps: I set the surrounding circle to straight non-transparent white. Thus the globe bcame a nice frame that is hardly to spot but improves overall appearance
• Shadows: Your shadow is different. That's no problem though. But you should apply a shadow with a bright spot at the center and increasingly darker areas (the farer off the center the darkest). But your shadows seems to have a kind of corona/halo that has the brightest are somewhat off the center. That's not how Earth is illuminated by the sun (the spot isn't necessarily at the equator)
• Border issues: please have a look at Morocco and South Sudan. The latter is clearly missing sometimes. With Morocco, I wasn't flawless either, but I recommend depicting it like in File:Cape Verde on the globe (Cape Verde centered).svg.
• If you overwrite my files, please keep image size. For File:Chile on the globe (Chile centered).svg it was 792 × 792px and is now 551 × 551. This is no big deal. It's just that imagemaps at Template:Globes imagemap (location map scheme) won't work with the new file sizes.

I don't want to revert your changes or so and I'm really glad other creating maps, too. I know how difficult it is to create fllawless maps - so please don't bother. Request

Having seen your work on global maps, i want to ask you if it would be possible for you to do an orthographic projection for these islands File:Mauritius (+claim islands).svg (excluding Réunion island) with Mauritius island centered. In fact i already done these one File:Mauritius (orthographic projection).svg, File:Mauritius (orthographic projection with inset).svg previously, but i couldn't include islands which are claim by Mauritius, as i made these map using File:MDG orthographic.svg (which is centered on Madagascar), we need one which is more centered toward the east to be able to represent all islands correctly. I would suggest to highlight islands which are part of Mauritius in Green (i.e Mauritius, Rodrigues, Saint Brandon, Agalega) and islands which are claim by Mauritius in any other color (i.e Tromelin, Chagos Archipelago) and upload the file as an updated version of this one. The reason for creating this orthographic projection is to use it in wikipedia infobox and relevant articles, together with this map so that readers will not only have a detailed map of these islands but will also be able to locate them on the global map more easily. I could have done it myself but i don't how to centered these islands on the orthographic projection, i tried to search for a suitable one where the western Indian Ocean is centered from these Category:SVG locator maps of countries (globe location map scheme), Category:SVG locator maps of countries (green and grey globe scheme) which i could have modify, but unfortunately i didn't find the right one. Maps of South America

Hello, Addicted04, I propose you add the member states of UNASUR in light green on your maps (of Brazil, Argentina, etc.)~as UNASUR is more advanced than ASEAN yet, member states of ASEAN have the members of the union in light green on their map (see Thailand). The African Union, also has member states in light green (see South Africa). Of course the EU does the same thing as well.

I think that it's very important to make this change because by the end of 2015, UNASUR will takes step towards creating South American citizenship and freedom of movement (see here), thus being more similar to the European Union.

USA Map lacking territories

Hi!

I first want to thank you for creating the US map for Wikipedia. I have a request. I would like to see Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands, and the Northern Marianas Islands to be added to the map. They are US territories and it would be good for them to be included, I think, because they are part of the US, as well. Would you mind adding them to File:USA orthographic.svg  ?

Generating maps: need help

I want to create several maps. I have read in description of your file File:USA_orthographic.svg that it was generated by perlshaper.pl script. I found this instruction: http://wikivisually.com/wiki/User:Gringer/wiki_ph_id_10 and followed it. And I used this command line:

perl perlshaper.pl -type orthographic ne_50m_admin_0_countries/ne_50m_admin_0_countries.shp -centre USA -sub USA -v > map.svg

But the result of this command line is not good: size of file map.svg is 3 MB and islands are rounded by big green spots.

Your map has size 65 KB and islands are not marked by spots. Can you help me to generate good maps? How did you generate your map File:USA_orthographic.svg? Can you give me your command line example or link to correct instruction on generating maps for Wikipedia?

Can you add Finland, which became a member of NATO, today on 4 April 2023, in these maps below?

Can you remove Sweden by coloring it in light gray in File:Location NATO.svg and File:Location NATO-Netherlands.png? That country's membership application was vetoed by Turkey and Hungary.
