I made a new layout that:

1. is more compact (the old map has a lot of unused space on the left side due to the oversized legend)

2. bilingual

3. dim out the unused hues in the legend

4. changed the color of borders to a very subtle light grey instead of white

5. fixed the inset boxes of Kinmen and Matsu which didn't align

6. removed some hidden unused shapes in the background

7. adding 85-90, 90-95, 95-100, and sub 50 percentiles

8. color scheme consistency

I've been able to find a source, https://archive.org/details/dictionnaireinfe00coll_1/page/146/mode/2up , (also public domain, of course) from which I can extract much higher quality images, in which the subtle line work of Caim is much more clearly visible. The new versions won't be perfect quality, but they will be an improvement. I'd also like to note that the original image has a white background but my new versions would have an old-paper-beige background, in case this is a problem; but I don't think it will be a problem, since they are both supposed to be pictures from a book, anyway. This file, relatively popular around Wikipedia and, as a result of that, around the Internet as a whole, is a terrible reproduction of the flag in question, from bad alignment of corners to wrong colours to wrong flag aspect ratio. Even the sources cited by the authors of the original file, World Flag Database and CRW Flags — the latter of which includes a mockup drawn by the president of APDR himself —, show the correct flag. I have no idea how such sloppy work managed to stay up for this long. I made a better reproduction at File:Flag of Réunion (APDR proposal).svg and substituted it on a couple of key pages, but the better option would be to just update this file outright. I propose to replace "Demographics" with "Primary language spoken" since this was a linguistic census instead of an ethnic census. I also want to place a small note in the bottom right corner explaining that the reason the Jewish ethnic group doesn't appear in the pie chart is because this linguistic census counted them as either Germans or Hungarians. This image contains a mistake. Until 1962, Algeria was juridically part of France (it was not a state according to International Law), while Morrocco and Tunisia were protectorates (they were states with rights limited by a treaty). Therefore, Algeria should be the same color than European France — same as on the first image of File:Enlargement_of_the_European_Union_77.gif, for instance. I would like to overwrite it.

I found some better file of Austrian actress Katharina Schratt, I would like to overwrite existing files of worse quality. When will I be able to overwrite files without having to ask permission every time? PS: Where can I correctly make a request for necessary rights to be able to overwrite already uploaded SVG files of Polish road signs? My intention is to remake the SVG files, if the specific file needs it, accordingly to the official specimens in referenced earlier law act but requesting every time to add the exception that would allow me to overwrite a file would severely impede this, as majority of the drawings of Polish road signs are uploaded by other users. I think they're probably below ToO, as they only combine simple letters with a well-known pre-existing symbol (hammer and sickle). This is a simple map of the 151 electoral divisions (constituencies) of the Australian House of Representatives that I uploaded today. I'm requesting to allow overwriting so any user can translate this file so it becomes available in different languages. However, when the currently ongoing federal redistribution for the next federal election is finalised, a new file will be uploaded (which will also be free for anyone to translate) and this one should remain for historical purposes. The redistribution will change the boundaries and seat totals in NSW, Victoria and WA, and it will slightly change the boundaries of the two NT seats, however these boundaries will be shown on a different file when finalised.

I actually uploaded a recent version as a new file name which contains the extension of My Thuan - Can Tho expressway, until I realize the file Vietnam CT.01 Map.png is referenced in a lot of articles. Also, for whatever reason, the diamond indicating bases is a little too small, so that'll be slightly increased in size (with the pitcher's mound adjusted as well). @XrysD I originally had the edit in Inkscape, but took my edited file into Notepad to adjust the code to be (nearly) identical to the file currently on wiki. The only issues are Groups 8 & 10. Instead of giving every coordinate, Inkscape does the difference in X and Y from the previous point. These two groups are the two right-center field numbers of 380 and 370. Here is what I intended to upload: File:CitiFieldDimensionsWiki.svg (once this discussion of uploading to your file is finalized, I will request a deletion of this one). I used your method of using Google Earth (at least per your description in File:FenwayParkDimensions.svg) to get the dimensions, however I added an image overlay to Google Earth of an image from 2023 opening day to get the current dimensions of the outfield (as well as the near-circular but not circular area around home plate). I used the current aerial imagery to adjust the entire ballpark except for right field, as these are the only changes since you uploaded the file in 2019. (Oh btw, that weird little notch by the 370 does exist. Between physically being at Citi Field and using multiple video clips and pictures from the 2023 season, I can assure you that's there). See, someone at work once used a SVG from Commons on our site locally (which was heavily corrupted/invalid), and due to the corrupt nature, the SVG-file let the site's parser go berserk and tax the engine heavily with huge CPU-utilisation – It took about a week figuring why our server's site was constantly giving visitors 500s. Ever since then, I'm always eager to fix given SVGs and other vectors, to remove parse errors and check for validation, especially the ones which are often suspiciously huge and have embedded bitmaps integrated .. Yes, that is indeed what it says, "do not overwrite if it is a controversial or contested change" rather than an improvement. The thing is, in the previous versions including the original, none of them depicts Olivença as a Portuguese territory. And as such, the user who uploaded the latest version made a "controversial or contested change", without even notifying the border change, but rather stating that he "fixed issues with the ocean and the outlines". Isn't there an issue with doing that? I don't know it for sure either, but the technique of taking pictures was in former times somewhat better than nowadays - optical systems are known for a very long time. And to get such a distorted image just with an optical lense system would be very complex and unlikely. In comparison digital images or even more digitized ones are not very seldom out of ratio and it is very, very easy to make such a failure...

I have no problem with uploading the other version (in a little bit better resolution, but still not the best quality), but as the image is only used twice and in bad resolution - i would say there is no big loss if this version would be overwritten. When Awesomecat713 added transparency to this image, they did so in a somewhat ill-fitting way. There are transparent gray and white pixels around the edges of the "A" on the right, causing the edges of that character to look very ugly if you view the image on a non-white background (like gray or red). What should have been done is all of the grayscale values in the original should have been mapped to alpha values, while all of the color values should have remained at pure black, which would allow the image to blend correctly on any color of background. This image is encoded as RGBA, even though that shouldn't be necessary. My tools told me that in its current form this could not be changed, so I took a closer look to figure out why. It turns out this image contains one errant column of useless transparent pixels on the far right, and one errant row of similarly useless transparent pixels at the very bottom. Cropping off the right-most column and bottom-most row of pixels makes the image completely opaque, allowing RGB encoding. This reduces the file size to 885 KB. I would like to create a more accurate SVG image using Adobe Illustrator from the Manual de Dispositivos de Control del Tránsito Automotor para Calles y Carreteras (see page 169 in the PDF file), developed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru, and upload it to Wikimedia for using it in Wikipedia articles. Unfortunately, I have to admit that overwriting existing files has become very limited and as a result, ordinary users here regularly submit requests for allowing overwriting a file. I recently decided to update the images of road signs in Peru and try to create a new article about these signs in Peru on Wikipedia.
