I, unfortunately, doubt if I possess the time or the willpower to draw it from scratch. It certainly doesn't help I know barely anything about the geography and politics of Andhra Pradesh. I nevertheless created a template based on that low-quality vector map, which is suboptimal. It would be fabulous if it can be of any use to you.
I also noticed you uploaded some parliament diagrams for elections in Andhra Pradesh. such as this oneI recommend using https://parliamentdiagram.toolforge.org , which is the standard practice on Wikipedia. I usually use Adobe Illustrator, but the process is fairly similar in Inkscape . Here's just one way to do it:
step 1: draw a line
step 2: create a repeating patterns in Edit/Clone/Create Tiled Clones. Make sure that it shift 100% horizontal/vertically per column/row. Make as many copies as you want.
step 3: select all cloned tiles, hit Ctrl+K to create a compound path
step 4: rotate the compound path 45 degree whichever way
step 5: overlay the stripe pattern on top of the constituency, select both and apply Object/Clip/Set
Seems am not the greatest at this. I tried the tilted clones but they all spawned in the same place so I just manually did every clone individually. I also used rectangle objects instead of lines as to not deal with the annoying line nodes. When I tried to union/compound paths I got nothing and ctrl+k got me nothing either. I then looked for other solutions and spammed clip and mask which got me nothing. I also tried to copy the crimea node thing and paste the style onto my constituency as a pattern and got only one black stripe showing up. I decided maybe if it was lines instead of rectangles it would work better so I tried that and successfully managed to union the path but when I ctrl+k it became a single object without cropping off the lines that were poking out. In another attempt to merge the paths and then difference it only made it delete itself. Do you think maybe I could just send you the svg? Uhrfuvf (talk) 02:41, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You can also do this I assume:
step 1: rotate the object 45°
step 2: In "Fill and Stroke" apply "Pattern fill/Stripe 1:1"
step 3: Rotate back

Hi, good job on the Polish election maps, they look really good!
Minor things to correct I've noticed:
1. In the 2019 map, Poznań (39) is incorrectly marked as PiS win instead of KO (in fact they got 45.4% so I guess it should be a new level on the scale)
2. In the 1991 map legend, there is a misspelling: "Singel-member" instead of "Single-member", also PPPP doesn't have English translation and has the leader name in the wrong place.
Thank you for making the 2023 United Kingdom local elections, control.svg map. I think I've spotted a few errors among the councils not up for election: Adur (Sussex), Fareham (Hampshire), Gloucester, Newcastle-under-Lyme (Staffordshire), Nuneaton and Bedworth (Warwickshire), and Shropshire are under Conservative majority control, Gosport (Hampshire) under LibDem majority control, and Birmingham and Oxford under Labour majority control.
As for the file UK local authorities, largest party post 2023 elections.svg, there are a handful of councils with ties for largest party on the council by seats (Bedford between Lab/Con, Brentwood between Con/LD, Hart between Con/LD, Hyndburn between Con/Lab, and, if you count all independents and localists as one group*, Rother between Con/Ind, and Merthyr Tydfil (not in this year's election) between Lab/Ind), so perhaps you would be able to reflect that on the map. Additionally in West Lindsey the LibDems are now the largest group after this election, and Labour are the largest group on Inverclyde council and now also North Hertfordshire council (coloured as independent/localist plurality).
It's also unclear to me whether for councils not up for election this year you are going by the composition as of the last regular election in the council or the current composition (affected by by-elections and defections). If you go by the last regular election results, Bristol should also be a Green/Labour tie, while if you go by current composition the Greens are the largest group there (and there would a few more changes that need to be made to some scattered councils in Scotland and Wales).
Lastly I would also suggest you remove NI from both maps entirely due to the different nature of governing arrangements there.

I do agree mapping partisan control in NI councils is a bit redundant. But maybe mapping the sectarian makeup of the administrations would be a good alternative? I would say that if Northern Ireland is kept in the maps it should remain as it is (though it should probably be blanked out for now on the largest parties map while we await elections there).
From your edit to Bristol I assume you are going with the current composition for councils that didn't go up this cycle. You may want to refer to opencouncildata.co.uk for these councils (the data there is currently frozen in place pending an update of all of the results, so it reflects the pre-election position). Of these, there are ties in current composition on the Isle of Wight (Ind/Con), in Moray (SNP/Con), and Highland (SNP/Ind), and North Lanarkshire currently has Labour as the largest party (per council website). Also I think you have not altered the map for post-2023 election ties that I mentioned above in Brentwood, Hart, and Hyndburn.
On the control map, I think you've fixed everything except for Gloucester and I think you mistakenly recoloured Cheltenham from LD to Con instead.
Don't worry about doing this immediately or anything, and do try to get enough sleep; I know us nerds can be a bit much about these things (I stayed up two nights in a row to help somebody spreadsheet results by ward), but we all need to take a break. 140.180.240.9802:55, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I've been a fan of your works and I was impressed with the maps you've made for Hong Kong elections and I very much appreciate your efforts. If you don't mind I have some suggestions on how to improve and make them more accurate as the following:
The original Hong Kong svg map is not the best template to work with as the West Kowloon, Tsing Yi and other reclaimed coastlines are not accurate. The land reclamation of northern Hong Kong Island since the 1990s has also changed the shape of the northern coast at least since 2016.
The traditional colours of pro-democracy and pro-Beijing camps are green and red respectively. It wasn't until the Umbrella Revolution the yellow-blue dichotomy became more prominent and the localist groups (which included the self-determination faction) are often associated with yellow (and blue if only referred to the autonomists/Hong Kong Indigenous). So It would be great if you use green for the traditional pro-democrats, red for the pro-Beijing camp and yellow for the pro-democrats+localists or only the post-umbrella localists.
The terms being used in wikipedia are usually localists (instead of nativists) and pro-Beijing camp (instead of pro-establishment camp as it is a relatively new term which began to be used in 2010s). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emanuelamianstrolski (talk • contribs) 22:29, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Would it be possible to make the boundaries of districts and constituencies more identifiable, for example to emphasise the New Territories East constituency that is consisting of North, Tai Po, Sai Kung and Sha Tin districts?
For 2021 election, the "traditional functional constituencies" should be only "functional constituencies" as there were no longer the new "District Council (Second) constituency".
For 2004 election, Article 45 Concern Group should have a seat in Hong Kong Island, represented by Audrey Eu. In addition, New Territories East should only have seven seats.

1. The problem with a red-green color scheme is it's notoriously unfriendly to colorblind readers. A blue-green dichotomy, on the other hand, isn't. Your thoughts?
2. I've contemplated many options for the English translation of political camps and am not sure. You can convince me on this. Here were my thought process:
2.1 I've seen articles using "pro-establishment", "pro-Beijing", "pro-China", "pro-government", "pro-CCP", and a couple of other names interchangeably. Since pro-establishment is the literal translation of 建制派 that's the one I chose. Without context, pro-Beijing sounds like a regionalist group.
2.2 As I stated in the talk page, "nativists" rather than "localists" is a more accurate descriptor of the identitarian ideology of "本土派”. Personally, the term "localism" reminds me of the various localist parties and residence associations in UK local councils (i.e. focusing on local day-to-day matters instead of grand issues like identity and self-determination).
3. The functional constituency map is a representation of consolidated popular vote share of all contested functional constituencies. A box might just have worked. I used a map to highlight the fact that FC seats are elected at-large.
4. I couldn't find district-level data for elections pre-2004. If you know where I can find them pls be generous and share them with me! Also, I'm unsure about some of the political orientations of some smaller lists in these elections. I you process the knowledge you can help me on that too. Thanks!

1. Please see these two maps 2012 winning margins and 2012 swing. I think it's okay for the readers to distinguish the red from green. I will let you make the final decision, but for me a Hongkonger who has been following Hong Kong politics since 2005, I think it's better to choose between red-green (the classic pro-Beijing vs pro-democracy dichotomy) or blue-yellow (the most common usage of the Hong Kong social divide since 2014), blue-green is just a bit odd.
2. I understand where you're coming from. Believe me I had the same thought when the term "localism" was first used around 2015/16. But since then "localism" has been used in all major media outlets and academic journals and I think it would not be appropriate to have our personal opinions on the terminology as it would be considered "Original Research" under the Wikipedia guidelines (I had been warned so many times by other Wikipedians over the years), let alone the confusion it may cause to readers.
3. I think since the traditional functional constituencies are largely trade-based which some of them are elected by handful of corporations rather than territorial-based, a background map would not be necessary. But I don't mind that much.
4. I need time to find those data as it is in my old computer but I'll come back to you once I retrieve them. :)
You convinced me to go with "localist." It's the original sin I guess of whoever came up with this somewhat misleading translation.
Since the red-green color scheme wasn't fossilized, I guess I can take the liberty of using alternatives. Red-Green is the most common form of color blindness and it's not even close. That's why I avoid it when possible. Blue-Green isn't perfect (those with the incredibly rare S-cone defect can't tell apart), which is why I initially went with yellow-blue. The only Red-based color blind-friendly scheme is red-blue. In fact, it would be ideal. But unfortunately, both colors are associated with the pro-Beijing camp. What do you think? What would you have gone for?

Hello again, I just wanted to let you know of some errors in the two election maps, especially 1989. Most of my info came from the Polish wiki pages of the constituencies and the sources of the election results.
1. PZPR's leader is Wojciech Jaruzelski
2. ZSL's leader is Roman Malinowski
3. SD's leader is Jerzy Jóźwiak
4. 7. Warszawa-Praga Południe needs a 75% and 80% color legend due to mandat nr 26 & 27 getting 83% and 79% respectively.
5. AWS next to the color legend is KO "S".
6. The 40% color legend in 15. Inowrocław should be replaced with 55% due to KO "S" candidate in mandat nr 60 getting 55.62% in the second round. (They got 41.33% in the 1st round).
7. Seat order in 18. Częstochowa is incorrect.
8. 21. Gdańsk and 22. Gdynia are in the opposite place, that includes seats and colors.
9. 25. Jelenia Góra is 25. Gorzów Wielkopolski
10. 57. Lubartów is 57. Puławy
11. 105. Wrocław-Krzyki color is 75% due to KO "S" candidate getting 77.50% in mandat nr 413.
In the 2011 Polish parliamentary election, Twój Ruch (TR) was called Ruch Palikota (RP) English: Palikot's Movement at the time of the election.
I found a tiny issue with the map. For the political party recommendations, the parties that recommended Nakamura (CDP, DPFP) have a green dot between them, instead of the blue that is used for the candidate's text.
Also, would you be interested in making an English version of the map?
I think Your maps are of very high quality and it's obvious that You put a lot of work and research making them. But, I found a little error of Your's Polish Parliamentary Election maps from 2001 to 2023. Namely, it is about district no. 26 name - You signed it as "Gdynia". But the capital for National Electoral Commission local headquarters and the most politically important city in the region is Słupsk. Sure, Gdynia is the most populous one, but it is not the right one on the map.
The idea is to show results only by Voivodeships, with counting together the % of votes given for three parties that want to form a government ( vs PiS (the ex-ruiling party). That way it shows that the opposing parties have majority together in most of the country. (And where they didn't win majority of votes vs PiS)
This is my first time doing this, hope I did it properly.
This is certainly a very interesting idea. But won’t the map be more informative if it’s over constituency rather than voivodeship level?
Also, how do we treat Kon in this scenario? If we keep pics & Kon separate, the map exaggerates the opposition bloc’s victory over the right-wing PiS.But grouping Kon together with PiS (who explicitly ruled out working with Kon) would be borderline original research (It’d certainly be informative in the context of election Twitter, tho).
you will see that all of those smaller parts that show specific results are parts of Voivodeships (or it's exactly a Voivodeship).
This country is divided into Voivodeships administratively and those divisions come from sometimes small culture differences/differences in dialects across the nation.
So presenting this additional map, in my opinion, explains the election results in a more broad/general way. I think that a person who is not a specialist in the knowledge of our country might think that votes are counted in a "wierd" way - just because it seems ruiling party "won" in a lot of districts.
The map view that I'm suggesting is answering the question "why did opposition to the ruling party won?". It seems obvious - but I think it's not stated as clearly without the map that I'm suggesting. They won because in total they did won across the country in most Voivodeships.
Also the Voivodeships number is 16 - so it shows smaller amount of visuals - it's easier to understand for a person that wants to just glance at the results without diving into specifics.
Sorry I wrote so long, but wanted to explain my thinking process.
About your question about Kon (Konferedarcja) - I think since they weren't in the government before, and they stated they won't be now (they also 'hit' the ruiling party in debates hard) - I think it's fine to exclude them from this one "general view" map that would show what happened in the election - it was PiS (ruiling party) vs 3 parties that promised to form a government together after the election. I think this map would simplify the election for a bystander that would like to quickly understood what happened.
I unfortunately don’t. I dig through the CDP’s website & found nothing. The rookie-level Japanese I learned back in college is already getting rusty. It’d be fabulous if you possess any data for that election and can share it with me. Otherwise feel free to remove it from the wiki page. It’s not a super-important election anyway. Thank you for your work on ROC LY elections! I would like to point out the official and Chinese name of "Lowland Aborigine" is "平地原住民," not "平原原住民." You may refer to https://eebulletin.cec.gov.tw/113/03第11屆平地原住民立法委員選舉/立法委員-平地原住民.pdf. This is just a typo, and I believe there is no rush to fix it. Just thought I would let you know.
I can see your point in Taipei-5, since the previous member was endorsed by and later joined the DPP.
I should maybe keep it as a DPP hold since it was won by a former DPP member who got kicked out of the party on corruption charges. The situation in Pingtung-2 in 2020 was similar to that of Miaoli-1 this time (which I eventually decided to make it IND-hold). I probably should change Pingtung-2 from IND gain to IND hold in the 2020 map.
I'm still unsure whether we should count byelection as gains in general elections. The views seem to be divided amongst members of the election wiki (the US and UK for example take the opposite approach).

I usually use QGIS and Adobe Illustrator but Inkscape would also suffice. Sometimes vector base maps are readily available here on the Commons. Many of the earlier Japanese maps I made were hand drawn owing to the lack of shapefiles. This is partly why I didn't make Japanese election maps pre-1928. I'm thinking about reworking those SK maps for a better color scheme & replacing the pie charts with bar charts I used for Taiwan maps I don't speak Korean so making some of these earlier municipal-level maps might be challenging. 沁水湾 (talk) 16:33, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking something similar would be a good idea. I do prefer the bar charts on Taiwan's elections over the pie charts, esp. for messy elections like 2017. I also want to try and go back and make better margin maps for elections pre-Doo-hwan and Chung-hee, since those elections were also important in analyzing how SK ended up how it is. Districts where Soong Chu-yu received more than 55% of the votes are colored in "more than 60%" colors, and the other colors are also. "More than 55%" colors are blank. Please fix File:2024 Tasmanian state election.svg. You have incorrectly put the seat of Lyons as "Lyon". The seat is called "Lyons". Lyon is a city in France, while Lyons is a Tasmanian electorate named after Sir Joseph Lyons, a former Australian Prime Minister.
Also, I think with the abbreviations you should use "ALP" instead of "LAB" for the Labor Party. While "LAB" is technically okay, "ALP" is the more common abbreviation and it's the one used in Parliament (ALP stands for Australian Labor Party). The other abbreviations are okay but remember if the Jacqui Lambie Network (JLN) wins any seats be prepared to add a new column. And I think the parties should be in order of seats currently held and then independents last (that's the standard format); currently that's Liberal, Labor, Greens, independents.
Anyway, other than those errors, the map actually looks really good! If the SVG has translatable text, feel free to use this tool to translate the labels so when a user is on another wiki it appears in their language (English for enwiki, etc). I would give a French translation but everything on there seems to be the same, but I see you speak Chinese so maybe you could translate it into Chinese.

I think since Australian state elections aren’t that international, I’m not so sure about multilingual maps. Expanding the texts into paths makes them look better on Wiki. My blank maps always have editable texts so feel free to use them. If there’s demand for election maps in other languages pls just shoot me a message. I think Australian state elections aren't necessarily international but Australia is very multilingual.
