Grüße --Eva K. is evil 16:51, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

--Eva K. is evil 14:07, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
--Eva K. is evil 14:43, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Ach, stimmt.
--Eva K. is evil 20:40, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you Manuel ;) I knew :-D But the google translation was a bit to friendly wrong. ;) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 14:12, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Could you do me a favor and crop the U.S. customs flag from near the top center of that image (the one with vertical red and white stripes) and upload it separately? I wouldn't ask, except that it's really not feasible for me to download a 59.62-megabyte file... AnonMoos (talk) 18:48, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Never mind, just noticed that Geagea already did that at File:American Customs. Johnson's new chart of national emblems, 1868.jpg (however, if you think you are able to improve on his effort, feel free...). -- AnonMoos (talk) 18:50, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi AnonMoos! Well, I can upload a crop from the my last file version with the more intense colors. It's now here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/3sicf4 (357 KiB; download link at the bottom of the page) Feel free to upload it if you think it's better.
A general hint if it's hard for you to down- and upload: use http://toolserver.org/~luxo/cropbot with your TUSC or gwatch account to crop images without the need for any transfers to your pc. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 19:12, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, uploaded it... AnonMoos (talk) 00:35, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

touched-up images

Your touched-up images are certainly better than mine, so I cannot and certainly do not want to complain. But you should know that soon I hope to go to Munich and Vienna with my Nikon D5000 and redo many of the images I took with my Sony or my smaller Sony. So I'll replace my versions of the images I originally uploaded.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Henrytow (talk • contribs) 2011-01-22T21:33:05 (UTC)

Hello Henry, some of them where too inviting for me. :-) Sure - feel free to upload new photos. But do not overwrite the current photos in case you intended to do so.
For the new photos: Just please make sure to be directly in front of the pictures and do not rotate your camera. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 21:50, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

I suspect what you call rotating my camera is my avoidance of the glare appearing in a direct, headon shot. Just curious, why shouldn't I replace an image I originally uploaded? Also, I posted a comment on the over-categorization of the Louvre. I'm not going to go in there and change anything. It's just that it seems to me that categorizing by room number rather than by century and school of painter makes for difficulties. Many of the present Louvre categories have zero or one files.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Henrytow (talk • contribs) 2011-01-23T03:56:10 (UTC)

Hello Henry, I see - sure - if otherwise a glare occures a rotating of the camera is fine! Not sore we are talking about the same - but glare would be very very bad.
At the topic of overwriting please see Commons:Avoid_overwriting_existing_files.
Yes, I read your comment regarding the Louvre - by room number makes not much sense to me, too.

Albert II. (Monaco)

Danke, du meinst wohl File:Prince Albert II of Monaco neu.jpg.

Danke --Pitlane02 talk 20:53, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Message

You're right, I've totally forgot that line, indeed if you click on the signature used by the bot you don't go in my talk page but in a page where you should take "the right decision" but people simply don't understand it. If you want I can block my talk page and redirect to my italian talk page if you really want talk with me or to the help desk if you simply want some help, but I think that's not so smart. --Filnik\b[Rr]ock\b!? 10:05, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

I would change it to:
This message was added automatically by Nikbot, if you need some help about it please read the text above again and follow the links in it, if you still need help ask at the ? Commons:Help desk in any language you like to use. --Nikbot 02:54, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
I also included a symbol because not everybody speaks and understands English. The bot's name is not linked to give people only a single "exit" (the Help Desk). If it really produces an error the people who know it made an error can find the bot's page in the history. Your page User:Filnik/License_missing is also not linked because it is only in English and it just repeats the autotranslated text the bot already told the user.
What do you think? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 13:19, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
✓ Done :-) --Filnik\b[Rr]ock\b!? 19:25, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. :-) Maybe a native English speaker should chech the grammar. ;-) Is it intentionally that you did not add the date/time? example: User_talk:Diggi date/time be included. Just use ~~~~~ to insert. Otherwise you cannot see when the bot wrote the message. And: there is a new line too much above the bot's message. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:24, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

I just got your message about the above file - um, I transferred it from en Wikipedia, the author, User:Sputnikcccp, is attributed, and there is a link to the original source page. Kelly (talk) 03:25, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Sure - but the original file has no source and no author. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 03:27, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes it did - the uploader gave it the license {{GFDL-self}}. The same with File:Clownfish and anenome.jpg. Kelly (talk) 03:30, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
And this is a valid source at enwp? Well - if you mean. Maybe you should compare all his uploads and look for similar EXIF data (at the bottom of the page) and state so in the info template here at commons that all had the same camera model. That is a very good marker for "own" photos. Feel free to remove the source missing template then.
By the way: I have sent the uploader at enwp an email to point him to his talk page and fix his files. I have to sleep now. Good night! --Saibo (Δ) 03:34, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes, and it's also a valid source here at Commons. So is {{PD-self}} and just plain {{Self}}. I'm not sure what needs fixing about the images. Kelly (talk) 03:39, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi again, well at Commons {{Own}} is a proper source. However - both images were already deleted at enwp so the deletion admin thinks everything is fine. I compared now some of his uploads. Many are taken with the HP photosmart camera. So it is fine. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 12:19, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

File:Musee_Granet_by_Malost.jpg

Hallo Malost, is it possible for you to upload the single pictures of File:Musee_Granet_by_Malost.jpg? Your stitching is not done well and we could redo it. Best just upload all to one file name: upload the first pic, then all following pics by using "upload a new file version" on the file's page. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 21:22, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello Saibo. Thank you for your message. I know this picture wasn't stitched well. I did it a bit too fast through Photoshop and the original picture deserved to be improved. I did'nt understand very well what you said to me. Do you ask to upload the original picture so that you can improve it ? I can do it. Cheers. Malost (talk) 10:57, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
OK Saibo, I'll do it this evening. Thank you. Malost (talk) 10:53, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
I've just uploaded the original version. Cheers. Malost (talk) 18:48, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks and sorry - we did confuse your retouching attempt with a bad stitching. Therefore you did not understand my first question

However, thank you for the original - we will see if we can improve it. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:51, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Islamic Center, Toledo

Most of the other photos uploaded by the Wikitravel user say Mike Sharp, though I can't find any more explicit statements of his identity than files nominally being released by their maker. Generally this has been enough confirmation for Wikimedia users—if it isn't, we'll have to delete (by estimate) hundreds of thousands of photos here. —innotata 03:06, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Oberstdorf

Talk page comment

Hi, I normally don't remove comments from my talk page, but this time I did. The reason I wrote: "I need to give priority to other things at the moment" is that a family member I love passed away a few days ago. I have to take care about my family, specially about her widower. As you can see my activity at Commons has been very low for the past days. I refuse to spend the small amount of time I have for Commons on stupid nonsense talk. You have always been welcome at my talk page for whatever case and I always took your comments serious, but this comment goes beyond what I accept at my talk page. Jcb (talk) 00:17, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi Jcb, I am really sorry for this :-(. And yes - in this case I am happy to see this part of my comment removed (I have restored the rest).
However, please do not describe this as "nonsense". I am not doing this for fun or because of boredom. I have far better things to do which I would like to do instead. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 00:58, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Category discussion notification Category:Reading_people has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.
In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Hi. In several cases you have responded to questions about the educational value of an image by questioning the educational value of other images. Please do not. If you think those images are not educational, then feel free to nominate them for deletion. But that other stuff exists has absolutely no bearing on whether the images in question should exist. Please see WP:OTHERSTUFF for more information. -mattbuck (Talk) 11:37, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi Mattbuck! Thanks ... but I know this argument already. ;) But in those scope questions you will notice that you have to check your reasoning/arguments/point of view by trying to think of other files. Maybe you will notice that your opinion is not based on consistent rules or reasoning. As people do not answer what are the sharp / clear rules of their point of view about what is in scope and what is not that is the only way to show them the invalidity of their assessments. The "other stuff" really makes no sense at licensing questions (e.g. there are also other copyvios). The difference between licesing and scope is that I have shown a DR to Jcb which he kept and ask him now about a file which he wants to delete. He cannot say what the rule is. And he also does not want to delete the other file, too (sinec he kept it). Different if propose a file for deletion and another person says: there are other copyvios: Result is that I will nominate them also for deletion. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:36, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

File: Vasile_Rudan.jpg - copyright issue

Regarding: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File_talk:Vasile_rudan.jpg, as follows: Hi Rdy, could you please upload a much higher resolution then to support your claim (new file name and link it here)? Currently it seems to be copied from the web. That way you would also support us by having a better quality picture. In addition please send an email to COM:OTRS confirming your authorship claim and the license you have stated on the file's page. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 13:50, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

-- Unfortunately, I do not have a higher res version of that picture as it was taken years ago, using a motorola E1000 camera phone. If it helps, that is a picture of my father and it was used in multiple puroposes since then, from illustrating newspaper articles to web feeds and printed posters. I released the photo on the web as an open file, without any licence assigned and I can assure you no one could ever claim the copyright for the file in question by any means.

Here, (http://fymaaa.blogspot.com/2010/03/vasile-rudan-si-nexus-magazine-va.html) , this article and photo is requoted from Nexus Magazine's website (http://www.nexusmagazine.ro/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=10000248&Itemid=57) and if you'll contact Nexus editor (Cristian Patrut) at <email removed to spam protect> he could confirm you that he recieved that photo from me (Rudan Horia). The picture also appears here (http://rudan.ro/content/despre-autor), on Vasile Rudan's official website.

All the best. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rdy4ever (talk • contribs) 2011-04-04T19:37:37 (UTC)

Hi again Rdy4ever, thank you for your reply!
However, I have not checked the links you gave me here since it is not up to me to decide this. Please send this (what you have written here) to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org (do not forget to name the file in question). I hope they will/can help you (I guess they handle such cases more frequently than I do) - not very easy in this matter. A reply from our support team can take some days (even two weeks in the worst case).
Thank you very very much for your effort! Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 21:17, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Image of IL ambassador with "Papa Doc"

Hello,

Regarding this image, please note that the owner of copyrights is not necessarily the photographer. Until recently the first copyright holder was the owner of the negative rather than the person who took the picture. In more recent statutes, irrelevant to this case, the photographer is indeed the first copyright owner, but there are quite a few cases in which it is the person who hired the photographer, rather than the photographer himself, who holds the copyrights. 79.181.123.110 10:53, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Hello to Israel! :-) Thank you for your info. But, yes, I know this could be the case sometimes in some countries. However nothing was documented for File:PikiWiki_Israel_136_papa_doc_haiti_שליט_האיטי_פאפא_דוק.jpg. So no one does know why it is public domain. ... and this is important for free content. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 13:20, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
In this case the credit should be given to the British :-) They invented this rule and enacted it throughout their empire... Anyway, I am somewhat acquainted with the "PikiWiki" project, so I wrote an explanation on the deletion discussion page. All the best! 79.181.123.110 08:01, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi Saibo. For instances like this it is better to tag as no permission, since it looks more "innocent" than a typical copyvio. It's not like the uploader is claiming that it's his own image ;). Cheers, --ZooFari 03:56, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

This one too. --ZooFari 04:01, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi Zoofari, well - I had never seen a permission under FAL to be honest. :-D But, well - if you like to.
If one really has a permission then it should be stated during the upload using subst:OP - if new accounts (like here - first edit) simply upload images from the web without any hit that they are doing it with permission... then I see no big reason to wait a weekmonths or so. Do you? :-) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 15:42, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
What about those two: File:Justinhammer samrockwell.JPG, File:우석황.jpg? Uploader both times claimed a license or free use. This time I had tagged both "no permission" - before your message I would have tagged them copyvio. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 02:36, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
The second one is good. The first one I would let by with a "copyvio" tag since it is too obvious. The tag is good anyways but just use your commons sense :). If we can use these tags appropriately then the backlogs would progress more in my opinion. For some reason stuff are being tagged as no permission when it should be copyvio and vice versa. --ZooFari 02:45, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! :-) If the no permission images would be deleted right after 7 days it would be okay... but I dislike knowing that we will host this and sometimes even have this in Wikipedia articles for months then.
{{Copyvio}} is for "obvious" copyright violations but where to draw the line is written nowhere and probably there are different definitions of it here. Cheers and good night then --Saibo (Δ) 03:03, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm hoping by the end of this month I will have more time to work on the no permission backlog. I used to work with no license but that one is up to date and being taken care of by another admin now. Good night, --ZooFari 03:30, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
By the way: I did not notice that many of my copyvio tags were rejected since I automatically watch those file pages.
File:Justinhammer samrockwell.JPG was recreated by the uploader (he seems to insist on ~"this is not copyrighted"). See - if someone really thinks his upload is okay he will simply recreate it after it was deleted as copyvio. ;-) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 16:41, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Re:Jancen Sergio,

--Túrelio (talk) 17:49, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

POTY 2010

Eigentlich ein Anlass wegen "disrupting the work of commons" das ganze mal aufs AN zu bringen. -- RE rillke questions? 21:54, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi Rillke!
Viele Grüße --Saibo (Δ) 22:41, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
-- RE rillke questions? 09:13, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
;-) Viele Grüße --Saibo (Δ) 12:00, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

when PD definitions are not so defined

When I first looked around for licenses for audio files, I found {{PD-US-record}} but did not use it because I simply did not understand it.

Since then a lot has occurred and I am starting to get this understanding of that license: that it can be used but it has only been challenged once and that challenge was unsuccessful.

Today, when I re-read that license, I am stuck with the word "fixed" there. It means "fixed" like when you use glue to adhere two items together and in most cases before 1972, it means when the recording was scratched/etched into the vinyl disc?

I am here asking about my "understanding today" of this license because if I am understanding it correctly, this would allow quite a few recorded items a place here -- not just a few pre-1940s recordings from when recording arts were in its infancy and only happened when its "parent" broadcasting was around.

It is almost "too good to be true" so I am quite certain that I am not understanding it correctly. -- Queeg (talk) 13:27, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Queeg! Yes, fixed means when the sound was "fixed" to some record / tape / disc. Could be the scratching in a vinyl.
And, yes, it is too good to be true: To my knowledge you have always to obey the copyright of the person who has recorded the sound (like the photographer) and the person who have composed a song (like the artist of a photographed sculpture). And maybe you even need to obey the copyright of the persons who sing / perform a song.
Therefore this template also states: "Recordings of copyrighted musical compositions etc., cannot be freely used [...]". As I understand it this template is just about the recording - the "fixing". If the fixing was before 1972 in the US you do not need to obey these rights because they have expired.
Commons:Copyright_tags says about this template: "for sound recordings in the public domain in the US (i.e. fixed before February 15, 1972 and not based on copyrighted material;"
Even worse - maybe the template is invalid if I understand it correctly. Please read this case here: Commons:Deletion requests/Benny Goodman Carnegie Hall recordings.
In contrast this one is according to my explaination above: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Deep Purple Black Night.png "The original recording is actually not copyrighted [...]. However, the underlying composition is protected by copyright" Jafeluv
At Commons:Deletion requests/File:Smetana - Bartered Bride overture.ogg you have a nice list of persons which copyright you need to take into account.
Commons:Deletion_requests/Image:Amazing_grace.ogg and Commons:Deletion requests/Image:NewMexico.ogg are also interesting.

I don't think an OTRS should be demanded for his images as all are clearly licensed at the source referenced (eg see "Some rights reserved. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License", right hand panel), and he is clearly the owner. The only file I see a problem with is the one with the comic front covers being shown (as I mentioned on his talk page). --Tony Wills (talk) 01:50, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Tony, thank you very much! If there is a license at the source then - of course - no OTRS is required. {{License review}} should do it. But: I did also check the source before - but I could not see the license as the website looks totally different if you have JavaScript switched off (which I have by default).
I was just about to "finish" File:OnurDemirsoyPortre.jpg, too - then I saw that these photos are not made my him. See the author fields: "Utku Demirsoy, Onur Demirsoy". Seems to be his brother or so?! Still okay for you? ;)
@File number 3: in fact. However at a first glance the comics look quite old. But according to some of them they are for "Apr 99" → April 1999? So surely copyrighted. Me could talk about COM:DM - but this is not DM for me. I know, for some people here it would be DM. By the way: I had not acted at File 3 and 4 because I didn't see them yet. Please feel free do act. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 02:45, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it is a good idea to approach unknown websites with Java turned off :-). I think he entered a competition in '99, those might be mockup comic covers? He used the name "Hadi Onur Demirsoy" for the google icon competition, but "Utku Demirsoy" appears to be the photographer in the family [4]. So I think if the author is listed as Utku and the source is listed as a Onur's website where they have the same license, all is fine. On the website they are listed as being in "Photography / People & Portraits / Self-Portraits" but by "Utku Demirsoy", but then in the context of the website I think "self portrait" is more about portraits of the user, rather than literally self taken photographs. --Tony Wills (talk) 05:37, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Looking again at the covers, they do appear real, and are the point of the photo I think, so not DM, and need permission. Perhaps wait a bit to see if there is any response to current queries. I think he has been quite precise in the author attribution, both need to be listed as authors as there is the photograph plus digital artwork to consider. --Tony Wills (talk) 06:36, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Hey Tony! :) Just a general info: Mind the big difference: JavaScript ←→ Java. Thanks for your research. In principle if the photo was taken by Utku we need permission from him (Utku), don't we? But, well, Onur did send me two very nice emails today and even even sent four permissions to OTRS. I told him to just answer at his talk page by editing. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 22:31, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

I turn off both when approaching unknown websites, I think pure HTML is pretty safe ;-). I told Onur he needed both permissions, whatever he sent it kept OTRS happy. :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 00:09, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
You may notice a discrepancy between these actions: [5] and [6], [7], [8] - he must think we are crazy :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 10:38, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
OMG..  ;-) But.. why did you move 3/4 of all files? Instead of just one. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 18:57, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
I know, not the most brilliant idea ;-) But I had previously renamed another version to that #2 name, so decided to continue with the same naming style when he requested that the names be aligned :-). --Tony Wills (talk) 06:09, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Einverständniserklärung des ADAC für historische Grafik

hallo Saibo,

Hi, you pasted {{No license}} to a series of images that all had a license, but the wrong one. Please be careful with that. Jcb (talk) 07:15, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

 Info {{Attribution AMD}} might be applicable. --Leyo 07:55, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
Leyo, if you are into thise AMD thing could you please have a look at Template talk:Attribution AMD? Thanks. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 14:52, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
I just came across this license template by accident. --Leyo 15:09, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
Okay. --Saibo (Δ) 15:58, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
I am not sure why you are telling me this, Jcb. The license these logos had was that wrong that is is equal to no license. The uploader had simply clicked, next, next, next in the upload wizard - that is the bad thing about it. We get many false own work "claims", which are not really intentional "own work" claims. It is too easy to upload without understanding anything, in my opinion. Also I had told the uploader on his talk page. If we do not tell people that they did awfully wrong they will never learn and we have loads of work. So why should I "be careful"? You have corrected the license now but the author info is simply wrong. "Be careful" with that... Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 15:58, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Maybe now you delete?

Ahoj. Would you now please delete file:Kishon Junction.jpg, it is no point it's still there, seriously! We have File:Kishon Junction.JPG which is a good image and a good crop (done by you), why leave users confused with the two? Thanx + cheerz + a good weekend. :) /Orrling (talk) 16:22, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

And one more small issue. What's the reason that I cannot possibly upload an image using the same filename as an older image I have uploaded? Sometimes I just want to reupload an image after bettering it, without needing to start a new file & catch extra space +choosing a less-appropriate name. I get a red text saying "A file with this name exists already. If you want to replace it, go to the page for File:(filename) and replace it there", and I have nowhere further to go but start a new file. It used to be different. It used to be so that I could override an existing file just easily, and somehow with the now wizard it won't work. /Orrling (talk)

Hi Orrling, it is still there because people could like the framing with the pole on the left side of the images and it is the original of the cropped version and originals usually are not deleted as they are needed if someone wants to redo the reworking.
To reupload over existing files best use the link "Upload a new version of this file" in the filehistory section of each file. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 14:12, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanx. /Orrling (talk) 14:17, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

"You can not reupload the file"

Please help. I'm trying to upload an image of the Downtown series under the filename of the image deleted yesterday. Since it's part of a series giving the image that specific name is important to me. I get a red text saying that since there was a file by this name and it was deleted, I "can not reupload the file". Why in all heavens can one not contribute a picture with a title of a deleted file..? Please assist so I can go on uploading with the name "Orrling of CentralHFA 14". Thanx a lot & Cherrz. /Orrling (talk)

I guess you are uploading with the upload wizard? Try the old forms: Commons:Upload. You will get a warning that the file was deleted before but you should be able to upload despite this. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 16:06, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
The Lord of the Wikis bless ya ;) Thanxx /Orrling (talk) 17:48, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
Hehe, thanks. :-) This is the feedback page for the Upload Wizard (which is still the first version which is known to be not perfect): Commons:Prototype_upload_wizard_feedback. There is already a section about this problem - maybe you can add your comment there: Commons:Prototype_upload_wizard_feedback#Wizard_should_allow_rename_of_files_on_first_step.
In the German interface of Commons we left the "upload a file" link from the toolbox on the left side of all pages pointing to Commons:Hochladen and listed the Upload Wizard there instead (option A). Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 18:03, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

evidence of patience

Several places I have been to or simply lighted upon and read, I have seen evidence of profound patience and of limited, productive and helpful interjections from you.

Lately, I saw being helpful to "ZaphodBookehBrox's" talented younger brother!!

It is difficult for me to not take some loquacious notice of this -- my resistence is close to failing now. Well done should be the claim, but I think rare is closer to it. -- Queeg (talk) 03:24, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Queeg! I am sorry, but I do not have a clue of what / whom you are talking. :-| Which user name does "ZaphodBookehBrox's" talented younger brother" have? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 23:28, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
ZaphodB is a modern folk character who is an example of the kind of people who get votes and win public favor. I changed the name some to fit the commons "scene". Zaphod had only the talent of getting votes and attracting attention from the real story. I have spent more time this last month laughing at potential ironic situations than I ever would have thought -- and it occurred to me that a Zaphod could not exist here without some reclusive talented person to assist by providing the talent.
The most that this should matter to you and the only reason that I mentioned it here is that I was kind of wondering if you experienced the commons version of a diva or prima donna. You should not need to answer this to me -- just extend the compliment that far if you have ;) -- Queeg (talk) 02:07, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
Glad to help

If you have the time and inclination, perhaps you could step in where my "new commons friend" is seemingly absent.

Here is another video: File:Sarcophaga carnaria (Portugal2005).ogg I started to laugh about 3 minutes into it. I kept thinking "Is he done yet?". I don't know if I was laughing because of recently being patient with viewing videos though. Sometimes, 4 minutes can seem like hours and that is funny -- at least to me. Do you think this video is funny? The fly might actually spend more time grooming than me, which is kind of humbling.... -- Queeg (talk) 05:30, 3 July 2011 (UTC) Already used for MOTD -- sorry. -- Queeg (talk) 05:32, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
I do not have the context - did Jahobr put all those insects in MOTD in a row, day after day? I agree that shouldn't happen. If possible no clustering of the same topic / video technique. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 12:15, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
Heh, context is that me, "Queeg (talk)" is the problem. If you could just scatter those files into MOTD templates (I will do the descriptions if you prefer).
Jahobr didn't "do" anything with the exception of now having the appearance of an organized annoyance more than a simple interested contributor. I was and still am looking for assistance to avoid my own short-comings. :) -- Queeg (talk) 19:24, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
I have problems to understand what you mean. Do you want more people (me!) to help in filling the MOTD page? And those insect videos are to be placed on some days? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:33, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
I did a thing now: Please comment at since you did choose it: Template_talk:Motd/2011-07-17. --Saibo (Δ) 21:04, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
I don't mind the help to find videos -- I am not keen on videos with url or licenses embedded in them, however.
My problem is that I have been moving insect videos into a more taxonomic-related category scheme, so in my brain is a surplus of this kind of video.
Should they be only one every 8 days or one a week, one every 15 days or all of these? Three insect videos in a row would probably not be good. If another person would just place them in good places into the schedule, me (and others if they want) could fill in the dates between those videos with a rule to not use insect videos in between.
(and you are probably correct about the squirrel/bird video). -- Queeg (talk) 04:48, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Saibo
I would like to request you to change the license according to real fact.
1) This is an image, en:Nilachala Kutir, is taken after 1924, as en:Swami Nigamananda comes to stay
in this residence on 1924. Please read the history of en:Nilachala Kutir
2) The image is collected from the Assam Bangiya Saraswata Matha, en:Swami Nigamananda's own foundation. (http://absmath.org/en/ABSM/PicGal/G2/page7.html)
3) Please think accordingly, how this image can fit to either license.
Hoping a positive reply from your side.

Hi Dcmpuri, as you can read for example in Template:PD-India: "photographs [...] enter the public domain 60 years after the date on which they were first published". Is there any evidence that this photo was published before 1951? Sorry, I cannot extract this from the history section of the article. Thanks for your efforts to get this right! :-) I have extended the grace period for the image by seven days as this could be PD. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 17:25, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes I agree with you. I get back to you soon if get any evidence.

What about making a draft feature list to create a new one, which respects all tricky things like 3d-works, licenses, author of original, derivative, sources, coordinates of the cam, coords of the object ... -- RE rillke questions? 20:26, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Maybe a better way than Template_talk:Own#Own_photo_etc. - or in addition. Definitely it is a good idea to have the whole file page in one template to be able to rearrage / restyle the contents and to aid machine readability (at least I guess it would help). Maybe it even shouldn't be a template and rather a new page type (handled by mediawiki) with form fields - but I guess this will be tooooo inflexible. However, I cannot spend time on this - sorry - I do not where to find time for beginning another project. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:39, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for running interference for me on both issues on my talk page -- it's very helpful when unhappy uploaders hear two voices.

Forgive me if I've asked before -- I work at recruiting Admins and sometimes I forget that I've already asked. I'd be happy to nominate you as an Admin. You've been around longer than me, have spent a lot of time in the Commons: namespace and are helpful and mellow. You do a lot of DR nominations -- would you like to be a closer? Files of Lushnikov

Dear Saibo, you was very kind to help me in the past and this help was very important for me. I am sorry to take your time once again but I do not know how to solve the situation with new files I've uploaded. I tried to ask the solution, but there are people here who, unlike you, don't care about others' work. I've contacted the author of the images and he has sent all the proofs possible but templates of fast delete are still there. Many thanks in advance. Best regards, Doctor Zevago (talk) 21:14, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi Doc Z! No problem - I am happy if I know that you really appreciate my help and want to get things right.
I made a change to the one file you mentioned to indicate that a permission is underway / sent. Be sure to follow the rules at COM:OTRS.
Do you have trouble with other files as well? I had a look at them: all have an indication that a email by our OTRS team was read but it was not sufficient according to our rules. You / the photographer who sent the mail should have got a reply via email. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 02:16, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
The last year was a very exciting one for me as I've registered at Wikipedia and wrote more than dozen articles. But it couldn't happen without a few persons who did a great help to me. One of them is you! Thanks a lot Saibo!
The owner of all these files has sent the letters with permissions and proof, but nothing is confirmed. His address is <emailadress deleted for spam protection by Saibo /> and the last letter is dated at august 29, 3:15 pm GMT. Best Regards, Doctor Zevago (talk) 14:08, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
The response from our volunteer email team can take a while (up to some weeks) - but usually in some days. I personally am not member of our email/OTRS/support team - therefore I cannot look into the permission mails. Just wait some weeks if you got no mail answer until now. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 19:24, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Doc Z, for example at File:Alexey Lushnikov. Studia VOT. 2010.jpg a OTRS member (email team) has proposed it for deletion since the email as of 20110826 isn't sufficient and he does not think there is a permission from the photographer. Don't you have the permission from the photographer? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 01:03, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi Saibo, I take my hat off to you! They just don't understand what they do! I'll try to fix this absurd. Best Regards, Doctor Zevago (talk) 02:33, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi Doc Z, so you have the permission from the photographer? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 02:48, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi Saibo, surely I do! At present I write an article about a TV-channel and its Head. I've contacted him and he fully agree to give a lot of his photos to Wikimedia. Best Regards, Doctor Zevago (talk) 22:32, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi again, hmm... probably the problem is that we need the permission from the photographer and not (in the first place) from the depicted person. if you need help, let me know. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 23:59, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
You've gave me so much help! Now I know basics and can try to solve the problem already. If I'll be totally unsuccessful, I know that I have got your gracious permission to bother you further. :) Best Regards, Doctor Zevago (talk) 01:00, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

Admintasks

Als Verschiebekommentar würde ich vorschlagen: "Author request - all links and usages replaced - changing from a misleading name to a suitable name".
-- RE rillke questions? 10:14, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Jetzt fragst Du dich sicher, warum "misleading"?
17:46, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
note: Help:AjaxMassDelete.js muss angepasst werden.

Hi, I corrected the licensing to the best of my knowledge and interpretation, as I had already done the research. Please check my changes and remove the tag, if satisfied. If you disagree with my interpretation or think that additional input from others would be useful, you could ask in Commons:Village_pump or file a deletion request on the image. (I'll regard this as finished, upload my smaller (data size) converted version and close the topic at de:WP:Grafikwerkstatt. Best regards, Iridos (talk) 14:42, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Site license

Hello! In this site is written in the end “TV'isao 2.0”. Is that the license? Can I use the image? I don't now if this is free. --Minerva97 (talk) 14:49, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi Minerva97, sorry, no you cannot use it. “TV'isao 2.0” is just the name of this page. You find many valid licenses here: Commons:Copyright tags. You cannot use the photos from most webpages. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 02:16, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Delete request

Hello There! I need to delete this page please for some fixing. Thank you! the link is http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Katarighe Mohamed Aden Ighe (talk) 21:09, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi! User talk pages are usually not deleted unless there is a very special reason to so. Please also see Commons:TALK#When_there_is_too_much_text for advice how to archive - you did delete all content from your page. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 21:16, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
I already archived the text now. I have a camera, can I submit photos to Commons that are free? I'm not really sure. -- Mohamed Aden Ighe (talk) 21:26, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Text is only "archived" if there is a link on top of you talk page which leads to the old discussions (see for example on top of my page here).
So, what and why do you want to be deleted? Or is it not necessary?
If you took photos of things which are not works by other people you can upload them. If you photographed works by other people (e.g. paintings, statues, buildings, ...) you need to give me more details to determine if you are allowed (by law) to upload them. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 21:33, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
This is my first time to Commons and I will contribute free photos if I can. Thanks! -- Mohamed Aden Ighe (talk) 21:37, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, but I need to be granted as an IP block exempt because I can be trustful with it and I will use it for IP blocks in the future may it help? Mohamed Aden Ighe (talk) 15:28, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Katarighe, why do you need an IP block exempt? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 16:01, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
Sometimes at my school, it blocks from editing commons. Its very difficult because students vandalism on other pages on commons. --Mohamed Aden Ighe (talk) 16:30, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
Here it is http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:129.143.71.36 and this is for prepertaiton purposes.Mohamed Aden Ighe (talk) 16:37, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
Okay, however, according to en:Wikipedia:IP_block_exemption#Removal I see no real need to assign this flag now. Usually this flag is also removed when it is not necessary anymore. The school is not blocked since 8 months. You can write me a email if it is again and I will assign you this flag. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 17:39, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Exif/mw1.18

Hi Saibo. I've read the topic at village pump, but I'm not sure if someone report something like that: the picture is not rotate, the exif seems to be correct [Orientation: Horizontal (normal), Auto Rotate: None, Rotation: 0], but no thumbnail is generated. For example, File:Costesti Cetatuie Dacian Fortress 2011 - Sign-1.jpg. If I reseted the Orientation (i.e. remove it), with the exiftool, the file will be rendered properly. Maybe another bug at wm1.18? Thanks for your attention. Giro720 (talk) 01:01, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Giro - no that is no rotation problem. However, I do not know what the problem here is. It seems to be blocked from thumbnail generation (but I couldn't find HTML in the EXIF). That occurs every now and then - but as of now I noticed no significant increase after MW 1.18. Thanks for trying to discover problems anyway!
I have tried to rewrite all EXIF with exiftool (now error was reported): works now. Apparently just touching the file with exiftool helps. Whyever... ;-) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 01:20, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

You accuse me of 'forgetting' something, while I already explained I didn't forget anything, I just didn't have anything to add to the arguments in the DR. E.g. Jim doesn't provide closing statements either in most of the DRs, even if there are several keep 'votes'. Jcb (talk) 15:27, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
And feel free to archive this message, no problem. Jcb (talk) 15:28, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
It is not the first time we have this issue, right? What if you would just use deletion reasons in controversial DRs? For some reason I stumbled over DRs intentionally missing a reason which were closed by other admins. Archive: um.. what should be wrong with it? If you would read my archiving settings and the resolved box you would see that my previously inserted resolved section template/box are far, far different from your reverts on your talk page. --Saibo (Δ) 15:34, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Pics positions on google maps

Hi Saibo,
here I'm back again with some questions:
I'm positiong my pics usually on google maps.
When there are too many pics in a small – or sometimes wider – area, not all of them are shown, even the positioning after clicking on <Google.maps> is absolutely correct. How can we change this?
Sometimes it needs hours or days until actualized positioning after edit is done. I'm used about this this but other people could be confused.
Can you forward this to the resposible people.
Best wishes --Lord Koxinga (talk) 18:33, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Lord! Please post it at Commons talk:Geocoding (be sure to clearly separate the two problems - maybe even into two sections). And a minor question at you: I really like to help you, but my time is limited. Also you may get fast responses if you ask such general questions at COM:HD next time. :-) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 19:19, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

I've transferred the two problems to Commons talk:Geocoding#Positioning pics in google maps, # of pics and Commons talk:Geocoding#Positioning pics in google maps, duration of actualization

Censorship?!?

Hi, if my goal would be to censor Commons, why do you think closing this DR I went wiki-wide to replace all usage by an alternative, manually, before I deleted the file? Please stop that nonsense, I'm not a censor. Jcb (talk) 20:25, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

This was deleted due to OTRS request of the depicted person. A completely different story. And why you replaced it? To safe others the work replacing it. I really do not think that you would have deleted this image per "out of scope" or "whateverbullshitnonsensereasonthistime". Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:32, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
Did you ever see me delete a file that's in use for being 'out of scope'? And no, I also never deleted local usage to get a file unused. Jcb (talk) 20:34, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
"In use" doesn't count for our purpose to build a media repo. It is also no reason for deletion.
And, yes, you did delete a file which was in use (on article namespace): wikt:zh:性交. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:44, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
Where did you find 'out of scope' in the closing comment of that DR? Jcb (talk) 20:48, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
I didn't say it was a out-of-scope del. This time it was a "other things, this is a high risk file" (aka "whateverbullshitnonsensereasonthistime") deletion. Yes, sometimes peope here find a "whateverbullshitnonsensereasonthistime" reason to prevent the last resort deletion reason "out of scope". Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:56, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
I think you see adminship as some sort of game and we're all playing around. Please get back to work, according to this list, you're not yet very helpful as an admin. Jcb (talk) 21:01, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
Interesting tactics. Which admin action did I do concerning our discussion here? None - right. So why are you trying to discuss my adminship? Better find a good answer why you did delete the file which is again in use in two articles (to stress the "in use" which you seem to like). --Saibo (Δ) 21:21, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
(after edit conflict) I think he's been doing a great job during the past years and still is today. By the way, your statistic page doesn't show the most important point: Saibo has been elected for commons admin about three weeks ago (Aug 29) only. Your turn now (maybe to apologize). --Schwäbin (talk) 21:22, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
Jcb, you mention that I should get back to work. If you do not do such wrong decisions I could - yes. Now it seems I rather should work on your deletion log and file some UDRs ... --Saibo (Δ) 21:29, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
Maybe it really isn't censorship as you claim. Maybe it is just rolling the dice (as happend with many other DRs) for deciding DRs. Could you please make a bit slower and not check your position on the admin action list every day? Your - indeed - big amount of admin work (DR closures and whatever more) is really appreciated - but it would be nice if you could not try to get the highscore but do good decisions. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 22:14, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
I rather agree with Saibo on this - you seem all too eager to delete things as out of scope. Our scope is very broad, there is space for things like this. -mattbuck (Talk) 23:48, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

qualifications and stuff

Hello again. I am being tormented by people who recite rules. Some of these rules are idiotic like "valid reason" not presented.

It bothers me because the fact is that if a valid reason to not do something (like to delete or rename an image) has not been presented, this should, in my opinion, only be justified if there is a valid reason to keep the image or to not rename it.

More simply, it seems to have become about me and not about the media in question.

To the best of my knowledge and understanding, the commons is not about me.

Also, software. It seems like it is easier for software to search for matching strings on a valid reason list than it is for a person to do so; but far more complicated for software to search for a valid reason on another list -- when it is not previously suggested.

So, if these people are not retarded or/and not software (also not retarded software) -- could the fact that they could be easily replaced with software and then not used be a requirement to maintaining permission to delete or rename here?

I am safe in assuming that commons is not about me? -- Queeg (talk) 21:56, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi dear Queeg, have a look in our policies (e.g. Commons:Deletion_policy or COM:PS) and have a look what are valid reasons. Interesting for you may also be Commons:Project_scope#Evidence (reason needs to be given to keep if some specific aspect of copyright has been doubted) and COM:PRP. Also COM:RENAME is worth to read - it has a clear list of reasons.
Software is too stupid to do all things. SOftware currently checks our new files for missing licenses - but it does not detect if the uploader is not allowed to apply this license.

Videoanzeige

File:Cellulite-2.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

A thought

I'm short of time at present sadly and you may wish to ask others about this. However I have a feeling the the de-admin request really should be mentioned on say the Village Pump (if you have not done so). It is a serious business and, whatever the outcome, the opinions should reflect the views of as much of the community as possible? Ignore me if dealt with anyway. Regards --Herby talk thyme 07:52, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Herby! No, I haven't mentioned the request anywhere. It is "published" as any other sysop request - by including it in the requests page which should be watched by all people who are interested. It is your freedom to announce it somewhere else - but I am not convinced it is correct to do so. Especially not by me who made the request. I would like to follow the processes here to not provide others with stuff to attack me with. ;)
Thanks anyway for the suggestion. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 13:25, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

making my problem yours

I am having many problems with this file: File:Londen Symfonie Orkest.ogv

  1. google translator keeps suggesting "butcher theatre" instead of something more like Grand Theatre
  2. the theatre they are playing at in this 1960 video (according to nl.wikipedia) did not exist until the 1970s
  3. it is a London orchestra and a Russian soloist performing in the Netherlands

Do you know of some reason to just get rid of it? It is unfortunate, because it is a really nice portion of a long piano concerto. I wouldn't mind knowing who really performed it, where and when. -- Queeg (talk) 02:53, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Also, congratulations -- I thought you were this already also. Well, congrats if this is something that you wanted, else, my deepest sympathies. -- Queeg (talk) 03:29, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Queeg! :) Very easy to get rid of it - there is not even a license tag on it. ;) So I try this low-overhead approach first.
Thanks for your congrats - yes I did want it. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 13:24, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Not that easy as thought. ;) License/permission was found. So you think the description is wrong? Did you compare with the orig desc? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 19:58, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
I looked at the information at the Dutch web site. I was unable to resolve the information. There has been plenty of wrong information from this site, btw. Most often in the form of "stringy" additions to lists of shots. By "stringy" I mean, inaccurate information which also contains eh, cultural references as much as the era and media allow. Another word might have been "crap", but that is an opinion of mine about such references (yes, it is a comment which also includes my own talents or lack of where this phenomena is concerned. The challenge in this format, should be to not invent it, but rather to find and use it).
So, from what I am to understand copyright concerns and how they are managed here, an audio file from the 1940's can be deleted even though the performers are dead, the song mostly unknown and the owners of the lyrics and the notes unclear and this file is perhaps a "frightening copyright threat". However, a video file which contains music that is being performed by a currently active orchestra, in a theater which did not exist at the time of the filming, containing a solo by a recently departed pianist from a country where almost everything is copyrighted is not a considered to potentially be a problem? -- Queeg (talk) 04:18, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, the composer is PD-old-70. The performers are still living but AFAIK if they were in Germany/German performers their performing would only be copyrighted 50 years after production. The camera man's copyright would last probably 70 years after his death - but it can be assumed that the open beelden has aquired the relevant rights. We also have an OTRS ticket regarding this: Template:Open_Beelden. I would not think that here is any problem. Even if the musicians would have a copyright I hope this institution knows something about copyright and won't not release such a video under cc-by-sa. If you think there is reason not to trust them feel free to post a Deletion Request.
Re. the meta data: I do not see the crap here. Sorry. The theatre's name is filmed and matches the name in the video. Or do you mean that the date is wrong? Then delete it with a good reason or add {{Fact disputed}} (usage see there) and make a note on the talk page of the file. Not on my talk page. :) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 22:40, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

interruptions to the mourning of the loss of my anonymity

First, thank you for posting a real problem at the pump. It was very interesting for me, and perhaps for others, to see how those who should be qualified and interested to address that problem didn't.

Second, honestly, repairs to the annoyance I wrote about there should be about equal to that annoyance to repair, for those who are qualified and interested.

Third, the reason that I interrupted my time of mourning is that I am curious if there are any problems or potential problems with the fact that since I forgot my password and disabled email to it I decided to make a new nickname here?

My identity has been confirmed by one user where anyone can read it. It was also "discovered" but not confirmed by another user. I have thought about it some and I think that I can find two others who with a few words from me, if they are still "themselves", could confirm it.

I don't like being a nuisance. To the best of my knowledge, in real life, I rarely interrupt business as usual. I am getting back to my mourning now.... Thanks for your good question and your time. -- Queeg (talk) 23:40, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Queeg!
Ad 1: do you mean Autorotation_using_EXIF_tag_with_MW_1.18? It is strange - apparently the devs to not think about what happens when they change the status quo. We will see at 23:00-03:00 UTC. {{Rotate}} will be our fried then.
Yes. Interest or lack thereof in a real problem was eh, interesting. -- Queeg (talk) 01:39, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Ad 3: Sorry, I do not understand... What do you mean? What do you where interrupt? --Saibo (Δ) 00:50, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
My own mourning. Forget about that. I have been identified as the owner of a different nick, inactive for a while now. I forgot the password for it and also had disabled email for it and made the decision to use this Queeg and have been using this nick since a little before you first explained thumbtime to me.
  1. I am now considering how to avoid problems with this which is what brings me here. I think that you might actually know the problems I might have from this or at least where to look so that I might avoid them.
  2. I am also interested to know how far-reaching wikimedia authority goes. Like, perhaps I have a personal web site. Does being involved here mean that any wikimedia project have any authority/say over what happens or files that can be found on that other site?
  3. And similarly, do any wikimedia projects have any say or authority to determine what occurs upon my personal computer?
So briefly 1) problems with abandoned nicks vs new nicks 2) & 3) are both about how far wikimedia (and affiliated projects) allows itself to reach into and/or exert its rules to other online locations?
The thank you was sincerely sincere. Perhaps that is what that silly wikilove button was supposed to be for; I don't understand templated affection. -- Queeg (talk) 01:39, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! :-)
1. I am not aware of any problem with your nicks. Another inactive account is not a problem. What do you see a problem with?
I am asking you this so that my imagination would not become inventive. -- Queeg (talk) 02:21, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
2. You can do what you like at your own website. It is your own responsibility. However, if you publish a photo here and on your private website it could happen that people find the picture on your private website when looking for copyvios here. Then contacting OTRS or a statement on your website could be needed - especially if you uploaded the file first here and then on your private website.
Some problems I had with the other account could be explained more easily if wikimedia had an actual policy claiming domain like this. Knowing it does not exist might prevent it from happening again. This is good to know. -- Queeg (talk) 02:21, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
3. Your personal computer?! Huh? No. Explain please. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 01:58, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
2 and 3 are very much related. For example, I am in the process of ripping a cd of music that I purchased so that it can become part of my personal collection of other music and be played from my computer without putting the disc in the machine. The fact that this "remastering" of this beloved set of music completely sucks and I am needing to "unmaster" it before adding it to my collection of mostly awesome music has little if anything to do with this concern of mine. To the best of my understanding and even experience, http can be easily hacked so I have some sense of vulnerability whenever I am typing into a wiki text box. Knowing that wikimedia does not endorse or sponsor those who abuse such vulnerabilities is, eh, good, to say the least.
Perhaps I will let this loss of anonymity die down some and go and test those other two who I think should be able to verify my identity. Later though, much later. I was kind of looking forward to it ;)
It is true in more than the obvious or crude, that my experiences here have been that not everyone knows what goes where and why. My web site was probably a victim to this confusion. -- Queeg (talk) 02:21, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I hope 1 and 2 are answered now? 3: Umm, well, http could be easily hacked if some preconditions are given. Someone must be able to intercept your connection betweeen your computer and Wikimedia. Who can do this? Police/Government/CIA/Secret Service, ... And: if you are in an unprotected WLAN (at the airport or a coffee shop) everybody (in principle) who is also in this WLAN. If you are at home with a Cable or DSL connection there is no need to worry. If someone has hacked your connection he could try to hack in your computer (especially possible if you do not run the latest updates). But..emm.. that is all very theoretical. Most cyber attacks happen if you knowingly click on links in spam mails or visit dubious pages in the web (they could try to hack your PC then).
Since some days you can access commons or Wikipedia via https which cannot be "easily" (given preconditions) intercepted. Just insert the "s" → https://commons.wikimedia.org Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 02:42, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Interruptions to the common star wars epic

A couple of things that are on my mind and a warning that commons videos might be making me a little crazy.

  • There will be two categories in Category:Videos by subject which I am not going to be redistributing into category trees which are more reflective of commons organization. I will be asking that you consider using some of your time to -- and at this point my wording of the request is still not authored. The honest request is to "complete my task" but it is more like finish the reorganization of the videos. Perhaps you will figure out what I will be trying to ask and just do this? Perhaps not. This is just a mention/warning of things to come.
  • I think I am going insane. I sense that I might need your opinion or calming nature. Was there a contest for the most pornographic video that can be legally uploaded here? If so, I nominate Joan Baez as best leading lady in both the most pornographic video and also pornoflick with the largest cast. File:March on washington.ogv

Thank you, once again, for time spent here. -- Queeg (talk) 21:44, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi Queeg, as usual I do not understand what you want me to do. ;) Which two categories (names)?
No, I am not aware of such a content. Joan Baez is a folk singer?! Is there some porn hidden inside a folk music video? ;) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 23:05, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
HA! Hidden, no! Or not hidden very well.
Probably I am crazed from watching so many.
If those categories are still there when I am closer to completing this task, I will provide links.
My description of todays MOTD was funnier, even if the portions of the video I wrote about were brief. Which brings the subject nicely back to "folk music". As far as I know/understand/remember (I was much younger then) there were two distinct and different groups of musicians in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Folk musicians performed for "causes" and rock and roll musicians performed for concerts or parties or simply music events. I don't think they were purposely organized like that but rather that it just worked out that way. Those old girls; most of the time that I ran into them in my life as an adult (not "Joan Baez" specifically, but those who had been very politically active for what was supposed to be all of our rights) tended to annoy me more than anything. At a folk festival in the 1980s, I cannot remember the musician -- I would have to do a lyrics search -- he was chiding them for "being vegetarians, eating bagels and not having fun any more" (not an exact quote but bagels were mentioned) like I guess they used to have in the 60s and 70s. I mention that because, apparently, I was not alone in my annoyance/disappointment with these girls.
I saw Joan Baez in concert in the late 90s and she did not annoy me. Other musicians at that "folk" festival included the Staple Singers, Lyle Lovett, Wilco and the Violent Femmes. It was a great day and a really great ensemble and it called itself a folk festival; maybe one day, when the Femmes "American Music" becomes free, it will become a "folk standard" -- that would be a really nice future. I really dislike the delay that mouse has imposed onto so many very great things. Joan Baez was the only musician that I would call "folk" that was there though. Not "folk" the genre, but "folk" the 1960s and 1970s activists.
Or, if you prefer, you caught me using a music genre tag. I did use it; I used it without thought from those far simpler years when those people who are probably now the grandparents of most of the people here were using/enjoying drugs and touring to talk about what should have been our rights also.
I have typed too many words here today. Perhaps next time I will tell you about the incredibly horrible genre tag I saw recently on a set of music in a retail setting. -- Queeg (talk) 10:15, 10 August 2011 (UTC) ("Used European" -- there, that saves a lot of bother) q
Dear Queeg, you did wrote a really nice story about the 60s/70s with many words - thanks for sharing. And I certainly agree that our copyright protection is too long (and maybe even too broad). Anyway, I initially (your first message here in this section) thought you ask me to help with something - but I do not understand what exactly you request. :) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 17:20, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Category:Nude videos and Category:Sex videos but I took them apart myself. It was an enlightening adventure -- I am certain that the uploaders of this matter of content (as far as categorization goes) have not even the first clue about what goes where and why. -- Queeg (talk) 06:35, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
(It is nice that you might have been available for this task had the need existed.) -- Queeg (talk) 06:55, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

I see - sure I would have been available for this, I just did not understand what you mean. Now, as you mention the cats your question is about, I do. :) A big thank you for all your video sorting and MOTD work, Queeg! Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 11:58, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Is it better now (I replaced it with a generic government tag)? If not, please feel free to fix. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 00:11, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
It is - apparently he was a hired photograph for EPA and counts as gov't worker then. Also see the NARA original which I have found and linked. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 01:12, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

To set the record straight...

I neither dislike you nor do I hold any grudges against you. Frankly, I'm simply acting in good faith. Please don't assume otherwise. Regards, FASTILY (TALK) 02:43, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Did I? No, I didn't. In fact, I am convinced of the opposite. I would like to leave the discussion at one please - could we please? --Saibo (Δ) 02:58, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
If that is the case, please feel free to ignore this thread. Regards, FASTILY (TALK) 23:39, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes, honestly - I never thought that you act in bad faith. If my comments seemed to imply that I ask you to ignore them and (if you like to) please tell me which words were the culprits, so I am able to improve. Anmerkung auf den Undeletion requests

Hallo Saibo!

Man on a Mission erstellt aussah.

Commons:Categories

Commons:Categories is a train wreck. Back in June I did try to split it, with the guideline material at Commons:Category structure and the tech/help at Commons:Categories. Further discussion of that (Commons:Village_pump/Proposals/Archive/2011/08#Split_Commons:Categories) trailed off and dealing with Docu was so tiring I just let it go, intending to come back to it at some point. If you're interested, maybe we could work on moving this forward again. Rd232 (talk) 00:11, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

An important page - categories is one of the main topics for newbies here at Commons.
No, sorry, can't help. As I already wrote GrandDuc above: "bin froh, dass ich endlich mal meine Beo durch hab - die letzten vier Tage". Gadget Update: UserMessages

Hi Saibo!

Thanks for testing and using AxUserMsg.js . This is essentially important for developers and highly appreciated. The script is now available in your preferences. This will also speed-up page loading.

Please remove the line importScript("User:Rillke/AxUserMsg.js") from your monobook.js before activating the ordinary gadget.

If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask me or put them here. Even if you dislike a new feature.

Thank you! -- RE rillke questions? 13:23, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Rotatebot

User:Galea

Hi. I already finish your request. I wrote a message in his talk_page. I trust when he upload something else see the message, but checking his contributions I´m sure that:

  • he most likely is not the artist
  • he has uploaded lot of pictures, and mostly copyvios (likely non-free web captures)
  • probably I should send him an email, even when I don´t like this kind of contact ("what happens in Commons stays in Commons" :) )

I also explain him how to change to es:interface. Anytime you need this kind of help, please, don´t hessitate to ask me (even when my english is not good, my spanish is perfect; I´m natural spanish speaker and also journalist). Cheers. --Andrea (talk) 09:12, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Muchas gracias Andrea. :-) Let's see what happens. I had no really bad feeling of him so I think it could be that he is the artist (AGF) - of course not sure that he is. Therefore → OTRS. Depending on what is the outcome of the cover image we should also act on his other uploads of course.
I also prefer on-wiki communication - however, it is often easier for newbies to communicate by email as they are used to it. Sometimes they even do not know how to respond to messages on their talk pages. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 13:58, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
As far as I see it´s quite active, so I suggest to wait a couple days. Otherwise I promise to write him by mail. Cheers. --Andrea (talk) 17:11, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi. After my message in july 15th he uploaded new pictures without OTRS. Also, he try to add a gallery in his talk_page, just under my message, so I think there's no way he couldn´t see it. Just for you to know. Cheers. --Andrea (talk) 13:24, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Andrea, maybe he wanted to say with this that these pictures in the gallery are really his own?! However, strange he didn't reply. Maybe he has sent an email to OTRS now - we do not see it until it is added at the pictures by the OTRS volunteers. Can you send him an email please? :-) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 15:01, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi, I already sent him a mail. Let´s see what happens. Cheers. --Andrea (talk) 18:44, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi again. He never answer the mails, but didn´t upload new pictures or the OTRS permission. Cheers. --Andrea (talk) 17:46, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
¡Hola Andrea! Okay, gracias. Then we just have to think about what to do with the old files. No time for it currently - I put it to my ToDo queue ;). Adios --Saibo (Δ) 18:05, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

I thought I should advise you of the discussion. Geo Swan (talk) 14:58, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

I don't have my talk pages automatically archived. The box at the bottom of your sections -- is it part of an automatic archival system?
Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 18:20, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it is. Just a bit hidden here (since I have such a customized intro here. ;-) It is an automatic system based on "resolved sections". See here: "Autoarchive resolved section" @ COM:ARCHIVE. I prefer it to the more commons only time based system since no sections just vanish although they haven't been completed. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 18:25, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Dateiversion, sollte dieser also qualitativ entsprechen.

Problem nun hier: bugzilla:32430.

Reaction to pissed off

You reacted on my post on the Village Pump: Village_pump#Pissed_off_.28updating_the_thumbnails_after_a_new_file_version_upload.29. I have an idea what might be the cause that the thumbnails don't update. When I update the new file, I get impatient. It takes a while. I want to edit the page by removing the templates (template watermark etc.). So, I press edit to start doing that. I probably don't wait long enough for the file to be uploaded completely. It is just a theory. Regards, Citypeek (talk) 11:21, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Citipeek, you mean that you edit (and save?) the page while the file is still uploading? Please try to provoke a non-updating thumbnail and write down what (in which timing) you have done. But if you do not get this error anymore this seems to be fixed now. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 18:16, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Rotatebot - DB?

:-). --Edelseider (talk) 19:19, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Nu aber! Saibo (Δ) 19:44, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Nu aber nicht mehr. Seit 04:21, 22 December 2011. Was is'n jetzt wieder los, Her Mehdorn? :-)--Edelseider (talk) 08:47, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Nu aber! Eine betriebsbedingte Verzögerung. ;-) Dank dir für die Nachricht! Viele Grüße --Saibo (Δ) 14:55, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

delreqs

There is absolutely nothing wrong with me notifying Cavalry that I've relisted images he's sought to delete for deletion. I made my own arguments long before I notified him of the renewed deletion debates. It would be nice if you did not automatically assume that I am seeking censorship on photos of poor quality, that are not being utilized by the project, and are only being vehemently defended because the uploaded released the images to the creative commons.

Repromodel (talk · contribs) only uploaded a gif (a poor file quality) of his dick falling onto a table.

Xuri (talk · contribs) uploaded four photos of himself using a dildo and has never done anything else regarding the Commons.

Cheywen (talk · contribs) has only uploaded photographs of his penis and anus in various states of duress, and is using the Commons as his personal exhibitionism host.

Why can't these factors be taken into account when nominating items for deletion? Why is it that because the images have been freely licensed and have a extremely tenuous claim to educational value (safe sex? highly unlikely) that these have to be kept?—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 21:01, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

I did not cite you because you notified him - but for your nomination reason (which you explained there).
Why is it bad of a person only contributes one photo? Do you have the same problem if someone only uploads a photo of a car? No? Why here? --Saibo (Δ) 21:33, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Because it's porn. There's no policy called COM:CAR or COM:APPLE.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 23:47, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
It isn't. Try not to look in the mirror while being in your bathroom - your mirror could get deleted since it is porn (according to you). Thanks for confirming my view of your motivation. I think we are done. --Saibo (Δ) 23:53, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
My mirror is not the 7th most visited website on the Internet or a website meant to service said website. There are good photos of nudity and sexuality, and then there's File:Sodomie.jpg.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 05:35, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Which is decent quality (not good, but not bad), and illustrates how people who lack access to purpose-made sex toys can make do with things from their local supermarket. -mattbuck (Talk) 06:45, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
But is this something the Commons should teach?—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 08:19, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Commons does not teach, we provide teaching resources, and we need to be able to provide resources for whatever people want to teach. -mattbuck (Talk) 21:31, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
There is File:Sodomie.jpg and I am glad there that it is. Mattbuck has well said it. That is reality - but apparently you do not know it. See, I used the image just in an educative way. Commons doesn't do a selection of what to "teach" (as you name it). --Saibo (Δ) 21:56, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
If I was really trying to censor things, why would I only go after these six files when there are several hundreds of others? These are just extremely poor quality photos or extremely inappropriate photos that will never be used in a serious educational context other than saying "Yes, we allow photos of zucchinis shoved half way into someone's anus on the Commons".—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 03:53, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
There is no requirement that they be used in serious educational content, just that they have some educational value. As has been stated ad nauseam, I am not arguing to keep these images out of simple like for the subject, I think it's important. You simply refuse to listen to our arguments. What makes these photos more inappropriate than any others - is it the fact it's a man doing it. Are our many photos of women masturbating with cucumbers somehow more appropriate? I would love to hear you answer why. -mattbuck (Talk) 07:30, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Archiv Berginspektor

Hallo Saibo, frohe Weinhachten!

Hallo Markscheider, dankesehr, dir ebenso frohe Weihnachten! :-)

RfA

Hi, with regard to your additional question at my RfA, it is a bit late for me to look at this again now. I am travelling tomorrow but I may have access when on the train, otherwise it may take me until Friday to re-read what was said in the thread. Obviously I do not want to misread your question for a second time considering the amount of scrutiny this RfA is getting and Peter Damian's issues with the WM-UK chapter's legal status. Cheers -- (talk) 00:35, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Fæ, no problem, take your time. I am sorry for the messy RfA - but I, currently, think that you are not innocent regarding this. With regards to my vote: I am quite happy to change it if you convince me of the opposite. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 01:22, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks! (TUSC)

Hi Saibo, thanks for helping out at Commons:Tools#TUSC. I was hoping there would be documentation I was unaware of, as you indicate exists at de-wp. I'm curious: it seems it would be best if there were central documentation somewhere, but I'm not sure what is the best place. Commons:Tools#TUSC? meta:TUSC? mediawiki:TUSC? What do you think? -Pete F (talk) 20:05, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Pete, maybe meta. In principle the best place would be the Toolserver wiki - but this is not SULed (AFAIK) and therefore hard to edit for us. So since it is not only Commons I guess meta would be the best place - well, or spread it over the projects and interwiki-link all. The "documentation" at de.wp is not really a documentation - it is a trial and error / best practice documentation which I started one days since I also thought that we should have one. To my knowledge there is no official documentation except the hints in the TUSC tool itself. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:15, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I will try to start a Meta page then, I agree, that does seem like the best central location. We can always add interwikis later if there are a number of articles (as you have already started to do); but it would be nice to focus on one page to gather all the relevant info. -Pete F (talk) 20:19, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
Maybe I will move the German version to the meta page (as sub page) then and place a soft redir on the dewp page. Give me a note how and when you are proceeding. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 23:07, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Broken file redirects

Sorry, but don't expect me to check each file in Commons:Database reports/File description pages without an associated file before deleting it. --Foroa (talk) 19:44, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

About which file are you talking? File:Sant Martí de Sadevesa.jpg? This is no redirect.
Well, if it is too hard to look at a file page before you delete and such cases like "mine" happen very seldom then: so be it. Problem is solved by the restoration and your modification. No harm done. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 15:31, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Old version file mover

It's here: [15]. Magog the Ogre (talk) 08:18, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Hey, cool! :) Hope that I find the time soon to test/use it. Thank you! Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 13:33, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
Have used it for File:Emma Barton - Alma Mater (1902).jpg (first file page created with text from CH, then used your tool to upload). I think the talk page message is not necessary, is it? Maybe instead add the text in HTML comment to the file page (top or bottom)?
Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 19:30, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
If the CH would have a checkbox "upload with oldversionmover" on the bottom ... that would be cool. Well, or the other way round: add a feature to the old versionmover to get the file desc page text (with CommonsSense cats) from CH, create the file page and upload. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 19:58, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Well I'm mostly worried about people making use of it sloppily and uploading unrelated old versions which are obvious copyright violations and/or unsourced. I can't think of any other way around it. Magog the Ogre (talk) 20:37, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
That was the reply to what? ;) To recording the user publicly who issued the transfer? He would also be if it was just in the file page history. If I see a blue talk page link at Commns I always think that the file already had issues (deletion request, or something else). ;-) --Saibo (Δ) 20:44, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that's right, to record the user who made the transfer. The bot could be used to overwrite files maliciously with copyright violations, or, like I just said, being sloppy with copyrighted old versions. Magog the Ogre (talk) 15:51, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes, should be recorded - but don't you think my suggestion would do it, too? "Maybe instead add the text in HTML comment to the file page (top or bottom)?" --Saibo (Δ) 16:44, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Well I just rewrote the bot and it will be recorded on the toolserver. It won't be accessible to the public but if there's an odd case of vandalism or something, then I can pull it up on request. Magog the Ogre (talk) 17:20, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Okay, if the "who the fuck was the user who operated the bot" requests are more than one per month you should make it public again. ;-) In fact, I would prefer if it was stored publicly in the file page history (vandalism / abuse prevention or discovery of copyright-unaware users) but let's leave it like this. Thanks for your time! Does the oldversionmover accept the input also via HTTP post from an external service? If yes one could create a "mashup" of CH and oldversionmover as a new service. :D Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 17:49, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Whatever; I made it public; it took about 3 seconds. http://toolserver.org/~magog/upload.log. Magog the Ogre (talk) 18:46, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Bild drehen

Hallo Saibo, ich habe versucht dieses Foto File:Myriameterstein_22_rechtsrheinisch_Philippsburg-Rheinsheim_Wasser_Bergseite_2.jpg mit dem "Bild drehen"-Button zu drehen. Klappt aber irgendwie nicht. Oder ich mache was falsch. Erforderlich wäre 1 Drehung im Gegenuhrzeigersinn. Kannst Du helfen. Vielen Dank. --ChrisWt (talk) 11:56, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Was klappt nicht? Kommt kein Pop-up? Siehst Du kein Vorschaubild? Danke. -- RE rillke questions? 12:12, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Vielen Dank. --ChrisWt (talk) 14:06, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Darf ich fragen, welchen Browser Du nutzt? Verwendest Du ein Add-On wie noscript? Danke! -- RE rillke questions? 14:19, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Welche Version? Irgendwelche Zusatzsoftware installiert?
Was zeigt folgendes an? Viele Grüße --Saibo (Δ) 21:45, 19 December 2011 (UTC) Anfang-Test:
JavaScript is active.
JavaScript is disabled in your browser.

Ende-Test.

---Saibo (Δ) 19:46, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I saw your note on the OTRS noticeboard about File:Duvalier.jpg. If I may add a comment, I think that if the uploader says that the author is unknown, then the uploader can't say that he held the copyright on the photograph (unless there is evidence that the uploader's family acquired the copyright from the author and then somehow forgot the name of the author). Anyway, I tagged the file with PD-Haiti. For the U.S. copyright, I hesitate between tagging the file with {{PD-1996|Haiti|14 January 1996}}, or leaving the problematic PD-self, or nominating for deletion. The en.wikipedia policy seems to advise assuming that the PD-Haiti works have been specially registered for copyright in the U.S., unless there is contrary evidence. I'm not sure if there is a specific Commons policy on that point, but I think Commons often assumes the opposite, i.e. that non-U.S. works have not been specially registered in the U.S. unless there is evidence of such registration. There's also the problem that if the photo was never published anywhere before being uploaded to Commons, in theory it might still be copyrighted in the U.S. to the benefit of the unknown author. However, I remember another similar case (i.e. a work that is in the public domain in its country of creation but was unpublished before being uploaded to Commons), where the file was kept after deletion discussion. -- Asclepias (talk) 17:55, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment - didn't read it in full now. Do you mind if I move this to the OTRS Noticeboard? Or is there any reason why you want to split the discussion? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 18:38, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
I don't mind if you want to copy it to the OTRS noticeboard, but I commented here instead of there because it was drifting outside of the question about the OTRS. -- Asclepias (talk) 18:52, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
Uh, well, you might know: I am no expert in US copyright (and I do not want to get one - knowing everything is too much) so I would like to trust your or other people's decision in that matter. :-) We will see what comes out of the OTRS discussion but if the release is invalid a DR would probably be the best to discuss the file's situation (if it is PD or not). A wrong PD-whatever-sub-clause-rule would be 100× better than a wrong OTRS tag which claims that there is security where there isn't. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 19:48, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Hallo!

Hi HC! :-) Nur kurz: Siehe dort. "This is placed by the upload forms/UW on file pages on upload if no license is selected:" Zu Deutsch: der User selbst wählt sozusagen aus, dass er das Bild ohne Lizenz hochläd - dass er sozusagen keine Ahnung von COM:L hat.

Question: Plaridel Airport gallery

Hi Saibo, you advised that I may ask querries regarding edits or images. [Thank for your contributions here! And if you have questions I am happy to try to answer. --Saibo (Δ) 14:31, 31 December 2011 (UTC)][16]. Preliminary, let me say that I edit or contribute images, since I do not like to contribute edits of sentences or articles, for they can be re-edited and improved, while images are deleted only under long deletion processes where we are notified; more importantly, I like images since my passion is photography even if I have no lesson on this; also, I use photos to take off stress and routine in life; let me say however, that I only bring my 2008 Sony $ 1,200 camera (now only $ 170), since it is handy unlike the Nikon professional cameras I used before here to have contributed the past images; there are times that the light is not good and the weather is bad or the surroundings and people would not allow entry to shoot a good image; so, my images are often poorly taken, but at least, they suffice unless a better one is taken to replace mine in Wikipedia English; images in Commons are of no use really, if not put in Wikipedia English. I took pictures of airplanes which is not my expertise, hence they were deleted as Spam from Plaridel Airport; I did find it hard to enter the prohibited areas in the airport to take good pictures, hence, the sad state of the photos, but at least I preserved the planes in Commons; these planes are terribly expensive and rare here in Philippines, they cost fortunes. My question therefore, is: is it possible to put into Plaridel Airport in Wikipedia English, at least the runaway, helipad, and control tower images[17], for they are not spam, but I do not want to offend the administrator who is an expert in the planes, hence, if you have time, please look at the matter. Thanks and cheers.--Ramon FVelasquez (talk) 03:40, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

¡Hola Ramon! "images in Commons are of no use really" - I see this very differently since I think people do browse Commmons categories/galleries through the links in the external links section of Wikipedia articles.
You shouldn't flood ("spam" is the wrong word) the Wikipedia articles that much - I am with user:Ahunt in this matter. I have converted (simply copy & paste + some adjustments) your gallery to the gallery page Plaridel Airport (here in Commons) and put it back again in en:Plaridel Airport and also in ms:Lapangan Terbang Plaridel. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 14:52, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Muchos gracias, Sir Saibo, for enlightening me on the basics of Wikipedia photography inclusions vis-a-vis the articles. I really had to ask you the question on how much or many images should we put into Wikipedia articles, but, or and, you have already answered my question. Also, I agree with you now, that, Commons images are really being browsed even if students and professionals would not have much time to go into that except to view the images in the articles. Photography is my passion; there are many articles in Wikipedia that are starters while others are well-written and developed. Hence, the matter of how many images must be posted in the article is rather a gray area depending on the notability of the landmark photos, etc. I believe in your wisdom and philosophy in enriching Commons and Wikipedia articles with images. As very new editor, I never touch or edit other editor's works, and leave the deletion or taking off of my added images in Wikipedia articles to veteran editors. That is why, I deeply appreciate your offer for me to ask questions to you regarding tutorials and basics of Commons photography into Wikipedia articles.
By the way, Plaridel Airport is one of the best in Philippines and around the world (as far as licensing is conferred), populated by many Wikipedia editors who study flying in the aviations schools thereat, like Indians, Nepalese, etc. Reason? It is cheaper here: I was told that here in Philippines, flying schools require for graduation and international license to fly, just 2 years or less, compared to India and other countries. A year of enrollment here costs only more than P 1.0 million pesos or roughly $ 30,000. Thanks for your inclusion of my pictures in the 2 articles. Cheers.--Ramon FVelasquez (talk) 04:49, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Hi Ramon, okay, fine. I have had a quick look for the relevant English Wikipedia page: You may want to have a short look at en:Wikipedia:Image_use_policy#Image_galleries - there, the gallery issue is explained. By the way: your gallery is now described in English and German. You can add more languages if you can and want to (look at Plaridel Airport in edit mode - it is not difficult). Commons:Rotation

Saibo, help! I was trying to create Commons:Rotation as a simple guide for people coming across this problem for the first time... (to point people to from COM:VP, COM:Help Desk etc) and I think I've just succeeded in confusing myself. You understand this better than anyone, I think; can you review/improve it please? thanks, Rd232 (talk) 13:29, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

I thought of such a page before, too.. But didn't find the time to do one. I would really appreciate it if you could try to improve yourself by reading what I wrote about. I have too many other tasks. So at least not currently.
See: User_talk:Saibo#Pl.C3.B6tzlich_verdrehte_Bilder, User_talk:Xenophon#File:Cardiff_St.John_-_Fenster_2a_Lukas_und_Maria.jpg and the old VP section. Yes, a German version of the page would be useful, too. A useful destinction between Help:RotateLink and this should be maintained. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 14:12, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Good stuff at Commons:Rotation, thanks. Rd232 (talk) 02:21, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, :-) - you made a good start! It is not really finished... far from finished. I would like to include both linked comments into it.. and maybe also link the software review (irfan / xnview) I have made (if you do think it is useful, too. I think it is because everybody who currently uses "stupid" software needs another). --Saibo (Δ) 02:24, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Cs-skončit.ogg

Hello, on 28 December 2011, you have deleted File:Cs-skončit.ogg with the following summary: "Exact or scaled-down duplicate: File:Cs-skočit.ogg". You followed the deletion with another one, with the summary "wrong spelling of File:Cs-skočit.ogg".

Are you sure the file was a duplicate? The thing is, "skončit" is a Czech word, no less than "skočit". Is there a way I could listen to File:Cs-skončit.ogg to verify that it really did not belong to "skončit"? --Dan Polansky (talk) 13:18, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Dan, sorry that this wasn't more clear: please have a look in the file history of File:Cs-skočit.ogg - the version uploaded by me is from the deleted file. There you can listen to it. Please let me know there are still parts not clear. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 14:13, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
