I was wondering if you can add more information to the image. You can use this template:

{{Information |Description= * Description of the content; use as well a descriptive and concise filename without special characters. |Source= * Source like a web link or give a statement like "own work". |Date= * Date of creation or publication if the former is unknown. |Author= * Author(s) of the file. |Permission= * if you're not the author: Permission of author (quote)- please also forward it to permissions@wikimedia.org; you still have to select the appropriate license in the dropdown box or add one below the summary. |other_versions= * optionally: other_versions given via a wikilink; can be left out. }}

Short van[edit]

Hi. Are you sure about the images like Image:MarentoAntiflagBusAug07FrontLeft.jpg you just categorized as Category:Volkswagen T2? I was trying to figure out the make of the short van myself, and saw no evidence of logo anywhere on it. The wheelbase looks much shorter than the VW T2 and the window arrangement is different, compare Image:VW Bus T2c Silberfisch2 002.jpg. Were there some shorter T2s marketed, or is this some sort of custom chopped one off? Thanks, wondering -- Infrogmation 18:16, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looking more, it looks like some pieces of a T2 custom put together on a small car. What do you think? Thanks, -- Infrogmation 18:39, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 18:59, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, no problem. It's just we don't like blank pages laying around. I'll delete it for you. Next time you can just put {{speedydelete|your reason here}} on the page and someone will delete for you. Rocket000 20:32, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! For an article we'd (at german Wikipedia) need a photo of the Park Lane Hotel (next to Green Park) in London. If you'll get there, could you please make a photo (and leave me a message on my talk page)? Best thanks. --Conspiration 01:38, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you ought to add geocoding to this image. It would be an enhancement. -- Korax1214 (talk) 02:55, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, most of your images need geocoding. "No geocoding" is often used as an argument to reject Featured Picture status. -- Korax1214 (talk) 08:47, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Use of your image in puzzles[edit]

Hi.  :-) Just to let you know, I have used one of your images (Image:43300 at Kings Cross.jpg) as the basis of a jigsaw puzzle on Facebook. You can try the puzzle here if you are on Facebook, though you will probably need to install the Puzzle Bee application. I have of course credited you as per the licence, but I thought you might like to know. Thank you for the photograph.  :-) I am registered on Wikipedia as Leevclarke. 90.196.241.236 14:28, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Transfering images to Commons[edit]

Thank you for moving useful images to Commons. However note that the transfer bots are by nature stupid, and often put bizzare misinformation in fields if they are not carefully monitored during the transwiki process. The situation is usually especially bad when transfering images not original to Wikipedia. So please pay attention to bot generated text and correct any misinformation when transfering images, and make sure images you move to Commons are cleaned up as part of your transfer process. Thank you much. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 04:48, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Buses in the United Kingdom[edit]

Hi! I noticed today that you have uploaded some more of your images (you have excellent contributions by the way - so many images!!) and put them in Category:Buses in the United Kingdom. Now feel free to keep doing this. Ultra7 (the person who started the new buses in the UK filing scheme) and I have had a discussion, and decided that it is best for people to just put image in the main category and for someone else to sort them out. As you will see, I have just added some cats to the images you uploaded, which I am very happy to do.

So, all you need to do is keep adding your bus images to Category:Buses in the United Kingdom and someone else will sort it out. I know this is what you are already doing I just thought I'd confirm the situation. Arriva436talk 18:56, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for replying to me about this!! I know that not all people know exactly what chassis/body a bus is etc! In fact, I'm pretty useless with old buses myself! Of course, if you do know what type a bus is, then feel free to add to to the appropriate category, (which are type, use, year photographed, registration, region, operator). The more you know and add, the less work I have to do lol!! The main thing though is if you can't fully completing adding the categories, then make sure you add it to the main cat. Otherwise it may just get left only half filed and never get found!! Arriva436talk 17:18, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Very good - I see you've sorted a file by yourself! You are learning lol!! I added a cat but realised it didn't need it and you were right in the first place! Arriva436talk/contribs 18:33, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hate to disappoint you but in the file you talk of the Bus was clearly very similar to one in a file I had already submitted, very similar registration numbers, it was just a case of copying that file's details.Oxyman (talk) 00:29, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless, it's still less work for me! Arriva436talk/contribs 19:29, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I admit that I am often lazy with categories but with Category:Steam locomotives of the United Kingdom the sub categories are so badly thought out with so many subjective and indeterminate categories that I don't think it's worth bothering with them.Oxyman (talk) 01:07, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

File:Battery_electric_locomotive_LU.jpg[edit]

Hi Oxyman, I've taken the liberty of re-uploading this one as File:L11_electric_locomotive_LU.jpg, as this vehicle was a "proper" electric locomotive, not a battery locomotive per se. It was numbered L11, and was converted from two Standard stock driving motor cab ends, stuck back to back, More info here: en:London_Underground_electric_locomotives#Acton Works Shunters. Hope you don't mind - the image retains its original metadata, and I've retained all credits and licenses as previous, unless I missed something. best, Sunil060902 (talk) 17:01, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Don't mind at all, in fact I am glad someone has provided information about this vehicle, although I am responsible for photographing it I don't always know detailed information about it. Thankyou for your input. best, Oxyman (talk) 23:06, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:GER_J70.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Deutschland[edit]

Please do not use geograph_org2commons until it has been modififed to create sensible file names for images from geo-en.hlipp.de. Did you notice that it was putting "geograph.org.uk" into the names? Did you not consider that somewhat ridiculous? — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 16:44, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I thought a bot was moving them, as after a little time the name changes to geo.hlipp.de which surely is what it's supposed to say? If It's not supposed to be used should it not say so? Oxyman (talk) 19:14, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Channel Islands and Deutschland[edit]

The surprising thing about using geograph_org2commons for the Channel Islands and Deutschland was not that it had bugs but that it worked at all! The hard-coded "geograph.org.uk" suggested "I am for the Britain and Ireland project only". Making the script work for all three proved fairly straightforward. (The horrible mess on Channel Islands images was caused by a bit of code in my handwriting so it was appropriate that I should fix it.)

Here is the new version. Please use it and check its output thoroughly.

For the Channel Islands, I replace "geograph.org.uk" with "geograph.ci" - fine until Côte d'Ivoire starts its Geograph! Any other suggestions?

I shall request Magnus to pick up my version soon. Watch out for my edit summary appearing at the top of the source code - or just wait for the title to change to "Geograph → Commons". (Source code: g2c_m.php and geograph_org2commons.php.)

The tool still falls over badly on accented characters. That is a bug which has been around since before I touched the tool. I shall ask Magnus to deal with it. — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 20:31, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

:Category:Wear Mill, Stockport[edit]

Wear Mill, Stockport This was a difficult one- I created both cats on the same day. I explained in the text why. Your edit is fine. No matter how far back you search (like 1870!), both spellings were used though Wear wins on Google count. I don't know of any equivalent case. When we get to classify the geograph upload there will be many more images- Folks who Hotcat, who search the existence of one name will never see that there is a cat for the other spelling- hence the need for 2. All I can say is well spotted.--ClemRutter (talk) 17:04, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for answering, Hotcat does 'see' redirected cats and it places media put in these into the tergeted cat, so it's a good idea in these instances to create a redirect, I have been trying to categorise some of the geograph images and have found instances of duplicated cats such as Welwyn/Digswell Viaduct, I went with Category:Welwyn Viaduct in the end. Hopefully redirects will avoid this! As an asside I have been trying to categorise various stations (to cater for the geograph upload) and it can be a challenge finding out if a different name is due to the station being renamed or it being a totally diferent one nearby, possibly closed! London photos[edit]

Hi, I noticed you've been sorting out a load of London rail photos. You might want to know that where possible photos are grouped into year in borough and month year in london, rather than year in london and month year in England. You can use {{Minx}} to easily create month categories, and {{Ybyc}} to create year ones. Thanks for your help. -mattbuck (Talk) 01:21, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I'm finding it hard to understand how those templates work, I'll have to look at them with a clear head some day, how far back do you want to go with the month year in London cats? Are there enough images to support this before the advent of mass digital photography? Oxyman (talk) 08:36, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, do it for the 2000s certainly. I have gone further back with the boroughs, and so probably did for month in London, but that's more for consistency than anything.
And yeah, I know I'm not great at making intelligible templates. -mattbuck (Talk) 09:33, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

:-)[edit]

Thank you!

Hoi Oxyman,

many thanks for uploading dozens and dozens of valuable images from flickr.

Btw, it's ok, that you upload tractor images just tagged with Category:Tractors (or Category:Unidentified tractors if the brand isn't already given). This way it's easier for me (and some others who regularly check tractor-related stuff) to notice new images, to categorise them 'deeper' (often special features, tillage machines etc. are visible, too), and to add new images to articles on the different Wikimedia projects then.

Category discussion warning

Hotel Hannon has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

a heads-up[edit]

Joost Bakker a prolific photographer from IJmuiden wrote to me today. We have corresponded via flickrmail before and he has struck me as a generous nice guy as well as a very fine photographer.

Anyhow, in this message he told me he had wanted to contact you, and another commons contributor, who has uploaded some of his images in the past, but wasn't sure how. He suggested that there were a couple of whole sets from his flickr collection where the whole set might fit well here. (Here are the sets in question [1], [2], [3], [4], [5])

I too upload each image one at a time. Do you know of automated tools that would help upload a whole set?

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 22:58, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you have spurred me into requesting those sets are uploaded here Commons:Flickr batch uploading this is the first time I have tried this so I don't know if this will be a success, but it is worth a try! Apparently they use a bot [6], again I am unfamiliar with this and don't know how it works, or if you need "rights" to use it. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
