This template is to ease use of {{Year by category}}. Use as:

{{subst:ybyc|Millennium|Century|Decade|Year|whatever the category is year in|Parent category|the|type1=|type2=}}

Use the "the" category to state whether there should be a "the" before the category name, to preserve sortkeys - any entry will do. type1 and type2 both default to "in", but can be altered to give different outputs. Type1 sets the main category type to "in", "on", or whatever you set it to, and type2 sets it for the parent category.
