Uploading images[edit]

I've never used the flickr tool since, the last time I tried, it wouldn't work. So, I've just uploaded them the other way, using the upload file and then flinfo tool to copy and paste the information. To be honest, I felt insulted at your mentioning it, it made me feel like an idiot for not being able to use that damn tool, and then you reuploaded an image that was perfectly fine to begin with, even if it had a slighter smaller res. How to use one image you have deleted[edit]

Hi, I have asked the question to someone else but he was not sure about licenec so I ask it again to you: You have deleted one image I had uploaded on Wikipedia

The resaon was that the image was created from on an image on Flickr with not the right licence.

  • Question 1: I have contacted the author of the picture, and he tells me that:
"You can use the photo on wikipedia, that's ok with me, but I wouldn't want to change the license."

Can you tell me how I can do to use this image then?

Is it sufficient with his written permission? Or should I ask him to modify the licence, if so what modifications should be done?

  • Question 2: There are several images I want to upload from Flickr, can you confirm that images showing the following licence are OK for upload on Wikipedia

Speedy delete of Image:Lapd helicopter.jpg[edit]

You say no reason to delete, but I had been told previously that speedy was the right method (and indeed have just had other images deleted by the same method) so apologies if it is not. One is not an edit of the other, I originally uploaded the one I requested delete on and then uploaded a larger reworking of the original RAW file which then became an FP on en:WP. This one is a smaller, blurrier, less color correct version, it is not an edit of the other in any way. My alternative is to upload the new one over the old one and request a delete as duplicate? no source tags correct?[edit]

Hello Kved, I just noticed some of the images you recently tagged with {{No source since}} appear to have source and author, as required. For example:

Other images that have been tagged as having no source are listed here. However, each one looks to be properly tagged with a GFDL and declared to be self-made. Do you have a reason to believe that the self-made claims are incorrect? Otherwise I cannot understand the reason for the tags.

Secondly, this image from 1913 was deleted: Image:Parseval PL 18 1913-05-03.jpg. This google cache from 4 August shows it had the {{Anonymous-EU}} public domain tag. This one may be more difficult to judge because it relies on German law treatment of anonymous works published before 1995 in Germany. The source is the Rosebud Archive of aviation photographs. That particular image appears to have been donated by Jean-Pierre Lauwers from his image collection. Its source is here linked from this page. For comparison, Image:1915.01.25 PL25 jpl.jpg is an example from the same collection.

Because the Jean-Pierre Lauwers image is more difficult, and because there are many images from his collection on Commons, I would like to request a deletion review for that deleted image. The source you gave seems to indicate that the current coat of arms is from 1915. Apart from that making it less then 100 years old there is also the distinction between the design of the coat of arms being from 1915 and when this rendition is from. Even if the design is PD-old the newest rendition might still be copyrighted (coat of arms allow for a lot of individuallity in how they are drawn). Desgradaciadamente no puedo argumentar si están licenciadas o no por los Gobierno griego o egipcio, que supongo que lo hará a través de sus Ministerios de cultura. Debido a que en los carteles informativos no se se visualiza o no consta dicha información. Otra historia es la Image:Metaxa.jpg, pues como he contestado hay muchas otras imágenes que por el mismo motivo deberían ser borradas (vinos y otras bebidas alcohólicas: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/2008/10/02#Image:Metaxa.jpg. Duda sobre licencias[edit]

La explicación que pone para haberla subido es que proviene de 20 minutos, sin embargo fue la agencia EFE la que se la proporcionó al periódico, y dudo que dicha agencia tenga una licencia libre... ¿Es copuright violation? Hola me paso mucho tiempo en la red investigando cosas, y siempre note que no habian mapas del primer y segundo imperios mexicanos, y los que habian, daban pena y me tome la tarea de sacar de un libro las divisiones territoriales de esos imperios y dibujarlas por mi mismo en unos mapas, las he subido a wikipedia y ya las he enlazado, pero como desconozco mucho de las reglas de wikipedia y en general de todo, no se como comprobar que son mias ni enlazar la fuente de donde las saque, que aunque no son una copia de ese libro, si las dibuje respetando lo mas posible las divisiones y a final de cuentas es un trabajo mio, podrias ayudarme a dejar en regla esas imagenes, porque no quiero que despues de tanto tiempo dedicado me las borren, porque quiero compartirlas con todo mundo. mi fuente es DIVISIONES TERRITORIALES DE MEXICO de E. Colombianorgulloso[edit]

Hola. Como ya sabes, este usuario y sus títeres tienen un largo historial de copyvios. Esta persona lleva más de un año editando en la wikipedia en español.

Su actual títere, Valentino01 (talk · contribs), ya ha subido varios archivos. Hace más de una semana que le marque varios de esos archivos con la plantilla no source, sin embargo no los han borrado. Colombianorgulloso ya ha provocado que varios artículos de es: sean bloqueados: Cucutá, Economía de Colombia, y Bogotá, este último en tres oportunidades, de las cuales la más reciente fue cortesia tuya. Además, este usuario tiene la costumbre de agregar sus archivos en otras wikipedias, especialmente en la versión en inglés.

Por otra parte, este "checkuser case" tiene un error ya que si bien Zaryaz es un títere de Rubashkyn, estas cuentas no tienen relación con Colombianorgulloso. A proposito ¿por que no borraron los archivos de Rubashkyn?.

De Rubashkyn se borraron las imágenes que eran copyvio. Las imágenes que aún permanecen en Commons fueron tomadas de Flickr con licencias compatibles o fueron tomadas con la cámara de un celular Sony Ericksson w800i y no he podido verificar si verdaderamente son copyvio o no. Dado que el usuario subió varias imágenes con licencias correctas desde Flickr, creo que es posible que el usuario también haya subido ciertas imágenes de su autoría. Pero para borrar las imágenes que restan lo mejor sería abrir una consulta de borrado ya que no puedo darles borrado rápido. Ahora revisaré las ediciones de Valentino01 (talk · contribs). Investigando un poco veo que la foto ha sido subida anteriormente con nombres similares por otros usuarios (y luego borrada). La foto está bajo CC-By-ND-NC, y al parecer hay un interés de que la foto aparezca en articulos de Caracas en español e inglés, no estoy familiarizado en la forma de contribuir fotos a wikimedia y artículos de wikipedia, pero si la comunidad está de acuerdo en ponerla ya saben de donde salió y de quién es.

En la wikipedia en español este caso presenta una inconsistecia. En el "registro de bloqueos", los títeres bloqueados tienen como unica explicación el echo de ser "Cuenta títere: de Stefannyvodka". El problema es que el usuario Stefannyvodka no ha sido expulsado. Tal vez lo mejor sería corregir todos los registros de bloqueo y mencionar en ellos que se trata de títeres de Amigo29 90, para que así quede coordinado con el caso de commons donde se indica que son títeres de este usuario. Si no se resuelve esto, es un poco complicado agregar las "plantilla títere" en las diferentes páginas. Adicionalmente sería conveniente reemplazar el resumen del registro de bloqueo de Amigo29 90 y hacer allí clara referencia al motivo por el cual fue bloqueado el usuario. ¿es posible?. Coloqué que eran títeres de Stefannyvodka, pues es la primera cuenta del grupo de títeres. Desconozco la razón por la cual esta solicitud de checkuser no terminó en la expulsión de Stefannyvodka, pero eso ya está solucionado. Y con respecto a las IPs, si se encuentran realizando alguna edición incorrecta o susceptible de bloqueo, basta con informar en VEC o a mí. The Portugal law says that a dissolved magazine and newspaper, enters in public domain after 3 years it's dissolution and in case of defunct is one year. But I have made a mistake and please I am sorry for that. I didn't read completely the law, the article 173 of the authors protections, says that the author retains the author rights. resuming, the name and the structure of the magazine is public domain but the cover, if contains protected material, isn't. and is this the case, for that again I'm sorry for my behavior.

I'm the uploader of the series Italy by Frank Fox and I would like to ask you some information about that series of pictures because I'm really puzzled about their copyright status.

- The author of the pictures is not Frank Fox that is just the author of the text of the book "Italy". The pictures were commissioned by the editor to many artist (some of them signed the picture as you can see even in the deleted file) in order to illustrate the book. Because in the book is not specified the authors of the pictures and the pictures are not reproduction of paintings but just book illustrations, who is, in this case, the owner of the copyright? The painter, the publisher, the editor?

- The book Italy by Frank Fox from were I have extracted the pictures was tagged in archive.org as Not-in-Copyright and, according to the answer to my post in Commons talk:Licensing, thy are PD in USA but may be not in other country as UK. On the other hand, as far as I understood working on Commons, the policy of copyright Commons is following is the american one so, at least in USA, they are in PD (because published before 1923) so why to delete them instead tagging them as PD in USA but not in other countries as discussed in this post ( http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_talk:Licensing#PD-Egypt )?

I'm asking you all of that not because I want to criticize your decision (I'm just a white belt in Commons and you are a black one) but because I would like to improve the quality of my work on Commons and to understand properly all those copyright and public domain issues in order to contribute effectively to the project without disturbing users and administrators in discussing and deleting my misappropriate uploading. Me preguntaba qué tan viable sería crear una categoría (algo así como Álbum de Notabilidades Colombianas) y en dónde categorizar ésta; ya que considero más cómodo llegar a las fotos si están en una sola categoría.

En resumidas cuentas: ¿Cómo crees que se debería llamar y en donde debería estar categorizada?

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Copyvios[edit]

Cómo estás compadre. Tengo un problemilla que deseo exponerte. Hace unos días encontré a un usuario que había subido varios copyvios de una empresa televisiva salvadoreña. Como puedes ver aquí, estuve comentando el caso con Wsiegmund, pero en un caso en particular, él considera que no se trata de un copyvio ya que a su criterio esta imagen File:Logo de Esmitv.png entra en esta categoría: {{PD-textlogo}}. Yo le expuse que el usuario que subió el logo lo hizo como "trabajo propio" y como supuesto dueño del copyright, liberándolo así bajo el cc-by-sa, algo que es totalmente falso. Esta imagen es propiedad de Telecorporación Salvadoreña y por lo tanto está protegida por derechos de autor. Esto se puede comprobar aquí. Ciertamente acerca de las alegaciones de uso de títeres no es que pueda hacer mucho, las cuentas puede que sean demasiado antiguas como para obtener datos del checkuser por lo que creo que habrá, en este caso y de persistir, aplicar el "block on behaviour" o el duck test. But the truth is that it was not a photograph, but drawing from the picture, a lot of detail is completely changed ( upward of 50%) and it is not copyright infringement - even under very strict practices of copyright. My question is the following; Is forbidden to draw the picture (the scene) that was publicly released? Now I understand problem about Wikipedia attitude towards derivative work, it is simply question to avoiding the problem, -ok. Now I like to see your opinion, our how you look at this legal problem - I put a new illustration in the article Darko Glavan. Actual photo of this person I was used only for inspiration for my own computer graphic creation ( maybe it was better that I drew this illustation by hand ? - but in essence it is the same thing) - Now this looks like this - [[12]](it's not great art, and is not something like - never seen before), - but You can not say that this is derivative work ? (or you can, but in this case even the Andy Warhol is stolen without permission and copyright - famous Marilyn Monroe).

If you find that even this illustration ist just - 'derivative work' , then delete it - and receive my apologies, then I really do not understand this damned new world.

Delete of Katrice Lee's picture[edit]

WHY???????????? WWWWWWHHHHHHHHYYYYYYY? Kved, why did you delete the photo from Katrice Lee's article. I thought you are an administrator to help, but as I can see You are not helpfull at all. Instead to delete it, you should helpt to find out whit kind of licence I have to put there. I wasn't offered the correct opption, what I cuold choose for the licence form. You must know it is free licence, as the family released the photo to the public, to give information about Katrice.

If you are referring to File:Katrice.jpg, an image obtained through Google Images from the BBC website the page stated that the copyright belong to BBC. Therefore, it was deleted. KveD (talk) 23:26, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm writing you regarding the following matter: As you probably know, the OTRS team handles emails, in which user confirm the copyright for files they uploaded. We have different queues for different languages and volunteers who reply to them. Unfortunatly our spanish speaking volunteers became inactive a while ago. Now the queue for spanish e-mails is growing and noone is able to handle them in a timely fashion.
