Hi! You already passed thrice the license of this file. The uploader always are deleting your edit. I don't understand what is his/her problem. Could you check it? --Regasterios (talk) 12:45, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, I guess the Japan gov images are under a different kind of license than what Czar and I were originally using. I guess Japanese-speaking users are addressing this. INeverCry 19:57, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

Guide me

Hi INeverCry. Some people in english wikipedia told me my uploads about Iran men's national volleyball team, are not free and we can't use them in articles and remove our pictures in en:Volleyball at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's qualification! Please say your opinion. Thank you.Sarbaze naja (talk) 10:52, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

Responded on my talk page czar 16:30, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
Thank you both.Sarbaze naja (talk) 16:58, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
It looks like Jim and Czar have answered this pretty well. It would be great to have images from other sources showing more varied matches and teams, but you can only work with what's available. INeverCry 17:53, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
Thank you all. I try upload images of every athlete from every country in the future. for example, I searched and found names of weightlifters in Iran in the last qualification competition and uploaded some pictures and will uploads more of them.Sarbaze naja (talk) 18:31, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

Athletic socks

If so, BB has a new camera, I think he always used a Canon before. You might wish to copy down his camera data (including serial number) for next photos he will upload. That is one way we got him the last time, we searched his camera throughout the project. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 14:52, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

@Ellin Beltz: The acct's blocked now. He does have a new camera, but same old theme. Another version of the shot I found yesterday is File:Mooddisorder.jpg, taken with the usual Canon camera by Specialtoyoutoyou, who I've mentioned to Elcobbola. I deleted at least a half-dozen of these distressed man photos back when he was more active. INeverCry 17:46, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
I zapped the photo, that one is blocked too. Thanks! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:46, 20 June 2016 (UTC) P.S. I deleted that cat photo you nommed.
@Ellin Beltz: Can you delete his other upload File:20160416- DSC5229.jpg? INeverCry 20:55, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
✓ Done , quoting Magog, "for the lulz". Ellin Beltz (talk) 05:42, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

What file are you referring to? INeverCry 19:59, 24 June 2016 (UTC)
File:Sionskerk, Hervormde Kerk in Papendrecht, overzicht linkerzijde.jpg‎; --Henk Bezemer (talk) 20:02, 24 June 2016 (UTC)
OK. My apologies if that move created difficulties. I have no objection to having it moved back to the original title. An administrator can do this pretty quickly by deleting the redirect and moving the file back to the original name. You might want to let the editor who requested the move know about your disagreement with it so he doesn't request any more moves of your uploads that may be problematic. I'll be sure to be more careful myself. INeverCry 20:10, 24 June 2016 (UTC)
Ik heb het bestand terughernoemd naar de originele bestandsnaam / I renamed the file to it's original name. Natuur12 (talk) 20:13, 24 June 2016 (UTC)
--Henk Bezemer (talk) 05:56, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Malformed DN

Could you help close the malformed DN at the top of https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/2016/06/15, and then tell me how to do that! Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 20:24, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Damn, I'm rusty, but I found a home for it: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Division of Syrians.jpg. As for closing it, I just added the delh and delf tags by hand. INeverCry 20:38, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Hello. "Private photo" doesn't mean "taken at private place". It means "just picture of some non-notable person". Every file must be realistically useful for an educational purpose (COM:SCOPE). 95.27.139.211 18:04, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Natalia Rocheva gets almost 10,000 hits on Google search, while searching in Russian (Наталья Рочева) gets almost 100,000 hits. She's not Anna Netrebko of course, but that doesn't mean she's not notable enough to meet this project's scope. INeverCry 18:21, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

You deleted the SVG file as well

Same here; jpg was to be deleted, svg to be kept — Preceding unsigned comment added by MaryroseB54 (talk • contribs) 09:46, 02 July 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The files were not deleted by INeverCry, they were deleted by Ellin Beltz. Maybe Ellin wants to explain why the SVG files are deleted too. Poké95 10:09, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

Spoke to Ellin as well, i assume it was just an error.MaryroseB54 (talk) 10:15, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

@MaryroseB54 ... ✓ Done. @Pokéfan95 It's called a mistake. Do enough of the same thing for over a couple of years, and you, too will make mistakes from time to time. This is nothing new in the human condition. Alexander Pope wrote in 1711, "To err is human, to forgive divine." The last problem someone pointed out that one or two were Not Deleted, but that goes to the occasional ghost in the machine and the dreaded {{Delbug}}. So I can error both ways and that's why I go through the deletions the day after as well looking for overlooked items and/or mistakes. However with all that said, these two were my fault entirely. There were four like this. I converted them from the visual format they'd been posted in e.g. [File:filename.jpg|thumb|left] which caused the images to display and other Deletion Nominations to cascade around them, to the non-visual format created by adding a simple colon, thus [:File:filename.jpg]. When I came back around to actually do the deletions, I missed the point of my own changes(!) and accidentally deleted them too. MaryroseB54, thanks for the headsup and the understanding, because it was "just an error." Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:16, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

A litle question about keep

Hi INeverCry, I was reading the article Sweat of the brow and how James Gillray case, Juan Crisostomo Falcon picture is in PD old, "however, under the "sweat of the brow" doctrine, new copyright claims could be made over mechanical reproductions of the painting, due to the skill and labor involved in the reproduction" like anothers VenezuelaTuya images. Please, could you explainme a litle more why this image should be keep in commons. Thanks for your answer in advance, take care yourself --The Photographer (talk) 10:59, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

Oops, I've clarified my close there. See {{SourceNPGLondon}}/{{PD-Art}}:

One or more third parties have made copyright claims against Wikimedia Commons in relation to the work from which this is sourced or a purely mechanical reproduction thereof. This may be due to recognition of the "sweat of the brow" doctrine, allowing works to be eligible for protection through skill and labour, and not purely by originality as is the case in the United States (where this website is hosted).

@Atsme: There's no fair use on Commons, so I don't understand what the issue here is. Can you give me the exact file name so I can review the deletion? INeverCry 01:37, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

OK. I see we're talking about File:OWAA-logo.png. This is a complex logo of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. In order to host this on Commons, we would need OTRS permission from the copyright holder. INeverCry 01:45, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Copyvios

Hi. Can you deal with these images? All of them taken from different videos which are protected under copyright laws. Thanks and have a nice day :)--Rapsar (talk) 14:42, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

@Rapsar: I've reviewed all the user's video uploads, and most of them were properly licensed under {{YouTube CC-BY}}, including the one you tagged for DR, which I've kept. I passed license reviews for them and adjusted the license. At the YouTube source, you can click on "SHOW MORE" right under the video to display the license. With this uploader's videos, all but 1 of the YouTube videos was licensed under "Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)". Some of these still need categories, but I've checked all of them and only found a few copyright issues. INeverCry 18:23, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Solonese I replied to you on my talk page and the still open deletion request. The same answer here. You need to have whoever holds the copyright fill in the simple form at COM:OTRS as well as read COM:L before making more uploads. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 14:35, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

Deletion question

Hi, It seems you have removed the image of Nikhila_Vimal.jpg from the page which I uploaded and regularly edited by me. I am new to Wikipedia in terms of editing. I have clearly mentioned the links about the website from which I have taken the photo and gave credits to them as well. Only thing is, the copyright usage mail was not sent to Wikipedia from the author who holds the copyright of the image. Can you please tell me why there wasn't enough time limit given and removed within 7 days of upload. Also I need to know if a photo was taken by me, does it requires mail confirmation for copyright. Gsivakumar be (talk) 05:06, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Time isn't a concern if OTRS permission is needed, as files can easily be restored once the OTRS permission is received and confirmed. Photographs of which you're the author don't require confirmation unless they've been published elsewhere on the internet before being uploaded to Commons, or if they're old photos from negatives or slides where you may need to upload a scan or photo of the negative or slide along with the photo. Modern images you've taken with digital cameras containing EXIF metadata usually don't require any further evidence of authorship. INeverCry 05:13, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I noticed that you deleted File:Jennifer Winget photo.jpg as it was tagged for speedy deletion as it was a copyright violation. But let me clear you that the file wasn't copyright violation at any angle. The copyright owner of the file was just Bollywood Hungama. I know that the image is available on various sites, so the user (who tagged it for speedily deletion), felt that I uploaded the image from some other website and linked to Bollywood Hungama website. But this is completely false. You can even check the first version of the file and it contains the "Bollywood Hungama" watermark. In the second version, I removed the "Bollywood Hungama" watermark for a clean image. In after version, some other user cropped the image. If you think that the file is still a copyright violation, then you can yourself check the first version of the file. It contains the "Bollywood Hungama" watermark. So I kindly request you to please restore the file and revert it to the very first version of the file containing "Bollywood Hungama" watermark so that it doesn't look like a copyright violation. Mr. Smart ℒION☎️I👨‍👩‍05:35, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

The copyvio tagging concern was the image doesn't meet the requirements of Template:Cc-by-3.0-BollywoodHungama. INeverCry 05:46, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
OK, I understand that Bollywood Hungama doesn't give us permission to upload wallpapers. But this file is not a wallpaper. Its a photo. The link goes to "Photos" section and not to "Wallpapers" section. This file File:Alia Bhatt Wallpaper.jpg is a wallpaper. How come this file isn't tagged for speedily deletion? Another example, File:Mandana Karimi.jpg is also linked to "Photos" section and is a valued image. Mr. Smart ℒION☎️I👨‍👩‍06:43, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
This looks like it's been cropped from a wallpaper or promotional poster to me. If you disagree, you can file an undeletion request to get opinions from other administrators. I could certainly be wrong. I've deleted File:Alia Bhatt Wallpaper.jpg. The other is a film still done by BH themselves, and should be OK. If it was a screenshot that you or I took from a BH movie, that would be a problem, as I understand the BH permission. INeverCry 18:38, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello, concerning this file, when looking at the corresponding French WP article I saw that the File talk:Fantine Harduin.jpg explained the situation (the child actor's father made the photo, the web site and the article), so I think the file could be undeleted and the uploader User:Lharduin (the father) could be given a short time to write to OTRS (I could help him for that in French). Thank you. Oliv0 (talk) 21:22, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

It would be better to wait for confirmation of OTRS permission before restoration. INeverCry 00:09, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

Kannada audio file

Hello,
I hope you are doing well.
I have received a help request. These files were uploaded for Kannada Wikipedia and other related projects. File description and attribution had some issues. They started making changes. As these were important files, could you tell us what need to be done other than a) sending permission to OTRS, and b) correcting file description? If permission mail is sent to OTRS, should they reupload or wait for undeletion? --Tito Dutta (talk) 02:19, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

OTRS permission from the person who's voice is used in the files is the important thing. After that they can be restored and OTRS tickets/attribution can be added without having to rush. INeverCry 03:43, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
An OTRS member will have to process and confirm the permission. Then they'll either restore them if they're also an admin here, or they'll request restoration at COM:UDEL. You can check on progress at COM:OTRS/N. It shouldn't take too long to get the permission processed. INeverCry 18:14, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

Cat picture

Heya fellow cat lover! File:Australian_Mist.jpg seems to be half-toned as if it were printed before being copied. I know it's one of "those ancient images" but perhaps if it were not in use it would be an easier discussion. I know you know all the Commons Cat pictures, and I was wondering if we had a replacement perhaps for this one? Cheers!! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:08, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

I think that may be all we've got, unless there's one hiding in all the images with only general categories and no breed ID. It was transferred from en.wiki in 2007, so may have been there even earlier. Might be from a color negative, etc. I'll have a look on Flickr to see if there are any quality Mist images. Hello,

You just deleted File:Small Town.djvu "per nomination" which doesn't explain why you deleted it. I'm going to paste in here what I was writing to paste in at the invisible "debate".

"Work was at English Wikisource, and it has been determined for that community that it was a copyright violation," is a prejudicially incorrect statement.

At the linked page, the closing statement was: "The following discussion is closed: Delete, a very long discussion that does not provide consensus of an appropriate license for Wikisource. One of the primary participants in the discussion has not edited Wikisource since the last entry here (6 weeks ago), If desired a new discussion can be started to consider restoring the work. Jeepday (talk) 11:03, 9 February 2013 (UTC)". I presume the misstatement was unintentional.

At https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests it is stated "consensus can never trump copyright law nor can it override Commons Policy". This deletion request does not state the file is in conflict with Commons Policy, that the material is not in the public domain or any particular reason the file might not be in the public domain. Essentially, it is a Complaint that fails to state a cause of action.

This file should be kept because "Small Town" was first published with notice on February 9, 1954 in the May 1954 issue of Amazing Stories as an individual contribution to a composite work, no renewal of copyright was made for this individual contribution during the time period in which a renewal could have been made and it entered the public domain permanently by operation of law. All matter such as illustration or introduction which might be protected by the PCW renewal of the magazine was erased from the scan before uploading. Relevant copyright law, copyright records and bibliographic information were researched thoroughly.

NEXT I was going to write something to the effect that I couldn't respond further until or unless there was a statement that actually identified what was believed or suspected to be a copyright violation and the basis for that belief or suspicion. I am assuming some unspecified copyright issue is what billinghurst sDrewth thought exists or existed but I don't know what issue(s). Indeed, I have no reason to believe anyone actually looked into the matter and thought there really was a problem before the file was deleted. I ask that the file be restored. As a matter of law "Small Town" has to be in the public domain if its copyright was not renewed and it was not renewed. Refrigerator Heaven (talk) 13:18, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

@Billinghurst: Can you take a look at this? The DR is Commons:Deletion requests/File:Small Town.djvu. INeverCry 18:01, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Could you please explain why you deleted File:Social Science Library shelving.jpg and File:Seating for wikipedia.jpg? An Oxford librarian uploaded these images and made an edit request that they be included on en:Social Science Library, Oxford. I fulfilled this edit request because I thought that freedom of panorama in the UK permitted photographs of buildings. I trust your judgement, but I would like to know what went wrong so I can be more careful when processing edit requests in the future. Thanks, Altamel (talk) 19:42, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

File:Social Science Library shelving.jpg was posted to https://twitter.com/bodleianlibs/status/742635200669093888 1 month before the upload here, and File:Seating for wikipedia.jpg was posted to http://blogs.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/ssl/2015/11/20/your-library-needs-you-focus-group-sessions/ in 2015. Since these have been previously published before being uploaded to Commons, we would require OTRS permission/confirmation from a Bodleian representative to host them here. I see. I'll inform the uploader. Thanks for your assistance. Altamel (talk) 20:02, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

Question about a couple images

I hope you don't mind but I noticed a fairly large group of uncategorized pictures that appears to me to be someone's vacation photos scrapped from Flickr and uploaded by a bot. Search for File:Flickr - Per Ola Wiberg ~ and you'll find them. Should I submit these for deletion or do you think that these things adds some value to the project I am not seeing. Reguyla (talk) 20:40, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

I've DR'd 20 or so of them as out of scope unused personal/vacation photos. The rest look OK, though I may have missed one or two. INeverCry 21:32, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
Ok thanks. That's another 20 or so uncategorized photos we can knock off the backlog. :-) Reguyla (talk) 23:39, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Deletion of two photos I uploaded about live export

Hello INeverCry,
I am a member of Israel Against Live Shipments. In Hebrew: ישראל נגד משלוחים חיים.
I've uploaded two photos that I took myself in Eilat port in Israel, and in Zofar cattle quarantine. The photos have our organization's logo. I uploaded them for an article in Hebrew about Live export.
Please undelete the photos.
The photos are:
File:Live export from Australia to Israel - cow blinded from ammonia fumes.jpg
File:Live export cows with feaces on the way to quarantine.jpg
Thank you - Assialls (talk) 03:59, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

Those were nice to see again. Thanks a lot. Reminds me of the Humane Society material I had to print back in the 80s and 90s. These have shiptohell.org © 2016 watermarks, so OTRS permission from a shiptohell.org representative (you probably) will be needed before these can be restored. It just takes a quick email. INeverCry 05:45, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
I wouldn't call it nice :-(... It's really horrible. I am a represantative for shiptohell.org, it's our web page. The photos are my own work and I give wikipedia permission to use them. I plan to upload a couple more -Assialls (talk) 05:57, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Assialls: Please send an email to the OTRS. By sending an email to the OTRS, you (and Israel Against Live Shipments, if it is a work for hire) irrevocably agree to release the files under a free license (like CC-BY-SA-4.0). Thanks, Poké95 06:55, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

You made no mention of adding the file to the other deletion request when you asked for speedy deletion of this one. Deletion of Zacharie TSHIMANGA WA TSHIBANGU.jpg File

Dear sir!

Can you please restore this File:Zacharie TSHIMANGA WA TSHIBANGU.jpg

All the rights on this picture have been given by me(I am the son of Zacharie Tshimanga wa Tshibangu) and by my family. The picture belongs to our Family collection and we have all the rights on this.

I hope you will understand and do the necessary action.

Best regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quid80 (talk • contribs) 12:31, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

This is a scan of an old print. Owning a print doesn't necessarily make you the copyright holder. Who was the photographer? When and where was the photograph taken? Was the image published? If so, where and when? INeverCry 16:53, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
This picture was taken with my Father camera by his friend Dominique MILANI.It was then printed by Zacharie Tshimanga wa Tshibangu himself. The photograph was taken in 1977 during a scholar conference in Bukavu. It has never been published in a book, on the web, on flirck, on facebook. So, this picture can be published with the courtesy of Tshimanga Family.--Quid80 (talk) 22:46, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
I would suggest sending a permission email with these details to OTRS. INeverCry 22:48, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Got a quick question about your close here. I supplied what I thought was a valid rationale for keeping the original image. Since you deleted it, I'm assuming you disagreed, but you didn't offer an explanation. Could you please elaborate? - Eureka Lott 19:05, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

I decided on what I thought to be the safest route for my close. The statement about 40 years cuts it pretty close, and could just be a close guess at how long it was stored. Others may think I'm being over-cautious in deleting the first version, and that could certainly be the case. I wouldn't have felt completely sure keeping the original version. I have no objection to your posting an undeletion request to see if other admins think the original version is OK. INeverCry 19:21, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
There's no question that the sign was created well prior to 1977, and the 40-year figure is no exaggeration. The reason it's in the Rock Hall's collection is its association with the Woodstock Festival. You can read more about the history of the sign at the auction house's site. - Eureka Lott 02:26, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
@EurekaLott: Works for me. I've reinstated the original. INeverCry 02:44, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! - Eureka Lott 02:59, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
I still saw and see an issue with this file. Due to the prominent display of the PD notice, I think that even the "better-than-average" reuser would not see and respect the CC license of the photograph, thus infringing on the rights of the Flickr user who shot this still. I tried to write a little something in the information template to make others at least aware of this situation. Any suggestions for improvements? Especially concerning a wanted multilingualism (currently, there's a wording that should be equivocallty understandable in English, French and German)? (@EurekaLott: ping). Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 04:42, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
In an attempt to make things clearer and eliminate redundant tags, I shifted the licensing information out of the infobox. Please revert my edit if you think it's confusing. - Eureka Lott 19:45, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Alexander Hart.jpg

Hi! Undeletion request concerning your deletion has been posted here. It seems the deletion of the file went ahead a mere 7 days after the deletion request, which seems to be a short time when awaiting a license ticket from a photographer. Is this short interval the standard? Best of wishes.--Paracel63 (talk) 11:44, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Yes. 7 days is standard. If the file was tagged with {{No permission since}}, the uploader would also have 7 days to provide permission just as with a deletion request. This can be postponed a bit by using the {{OTRS pending}} template in the permission field. These methods are used to prevent a possible copyright violation from staying on Commons for a long period of time. INeverCry 17:40, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying the rationale. :-)--Paracel63 (talk) 23:02, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello INeverCry,

Apparently you deleted File:Ton Sijbrands (1967).jpg, but I can't find out why. Why?

Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 09:15, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

This was deleted as a duplicate of File:Internationaal damtoernooi te Hoogezand-Sappemeer, Sijbrands (neg.nr. 15) - Nationaal Archief - 920-3133.jpg. INeverCry 16:28, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
But it wasn't a duplicate. It was a cropped and cleaned version of that file. Besides, File:Internationaal damtoernooi te Hoogezand-Sappemeer, Sijbrands (neg.nr. 15) - Nationaal Archief - 920-3133.jpg was uploaded just now, while the deleted file has been there for at least a year. So if you think you could call a file a duplicate it is the new one. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 19:38, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
This was tagged as a duplicate by my fellow admin Basvb. I'd have to see what he thinks about it before considering restoring it. INeverCry 19:42, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
I missed the fact that Jan Arkesteijn cleaned up the image, because that is the case I support restoring the image and will also restore it's usage on the wikiprojects. Sorry Jan Arkesteijn for incorrectly marking it as a duplicate. Maybe it is a good idea to mention/credit your improvements? The new file was of a higher resolution. Basvb (talk) 22:15, 14 July 2016 (UTC) PS: Am I correct in my assumption that if a file is an exact duplicate (no crop or cleanup) but of higher resolution (and a new upload) redirecting the lower resolution image to the higher res image is correct procedure? I ask this because I wrote a script which uploads from the Nationaal Archief and they recently made higher res images available, so the bot will likely upload higher resolution duplicates in 3% of the cases.

Sourcing issue on some images

Greetings again. Sorry to keep bugging you.

I found some images today that clearly have some sourcing problems. File:USSHanoverAPA116 Nationalists@small boat.jpg is one example. Given it's age I am pretty sure it's in the public domain but not sure. These images are marked however as own work and dated as 2013 which is rather dubious given the content. Not sure if I should submit these for deletion or marked them some other way. Thanks in advance for the help. Reguyla (talk) 20:24, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

I would post deletion requests for files like this. These need proper source/author info, and in my experience getting this info from the uploaders can be a real bitch. You have to deal with language barriers, uploader understanding of copyright, and often drive-by uploaders we'll never hear from again. DR via COM:PRP is the more reliable and convenient answer. INeverCry 20:49, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
Kinda what I thought too, thanks. Reguyla (talk) 20:52, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Unfairly blocked

Hi, as you may know, I often nominate low quality car photos for deletion. You have closed many of these cases (with most resulting in deletion and some being kept due to differences in opinion). Another admin who really has it in for me has now twice blocked me for nominating images for deletion with the rationale "disruptive editing after warnings". For example, Commons:Deletion requests/File:Holden Monaro CV8.jpg was closed with "no valid reason for deletion" despite me proving COM:Redundant as a policy justification. The closing admin needs to acknowledge the points made by the nominating instead of closing nominations due to personal spite.

No messages were posted on my talk page about the first or second block, I was just blocked (first for 1 week with OSX II, now for 1 month with OSX). I find this type of administrator behaviour unacceptable. Users are entitled to nominate very low quality images for deletion (this is why we have the deletion nomination process). The fact that the vast majority of my nominations end up being deleted is a testament to this. Just because this admin has a difference of opinion does not give him a right to block without reason.

I ask that you, as an admin who does have experience in closing my deletions, please reconsider the block. Kindest regards, OSX II (talk) 22:52, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

I go by Commons:Project_scope#Examples (the last example) when doing these deletions you request. I can't undo a block done by another admin, unless that admin agrees to an unblock. @Jcb: Pinging Jcb to get his input on this block/issue. INeverCry 22:59, 17 July 2016 (UTC)
I have blocked OSX (and earlier the OSX II sock) for repeated DRs, up to 5 times for the same files, of uploads from years ago without any good reason. They seem not to respect the fact that their contributions are not revocable. The files themselves are almost all in scope and nobody knows who may be relying on those releases outside Wikimedia/Wikipedia. I have warned them several times, but they just continue the behaviour. So no, I am not lifting the block. The comment above clearly shows that OSX/OSX II is not (yet) prepared to changes their behaviour. Jcb (talk) 23:17, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Greetings, is there a tool to make nomination of Featured/Good pictures easier? It seems like if we can create something to nominate one for deletion we can fairly easily nominate them for promotion as well. Reguyla (talk) 20:17, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

I don't know of one. FP is done by hand just like RFA. The FPCs have to be added and archived by hand, etc. You might try asking either Krd or Steinsplitter about this, as they're the resident bot wizards. We used to have to hand-archive closed mass DRs until Krd automated it with Krdbot. INeverCry 20:23, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

This category was tagged with {{Emptypage}} by Cathy Richards, whose judgment and experience I trust to, as I would yours. If it needs restoring, I can do that easily. Can it be populated soon after the restoration in order to avoid another empty cat speedy? INeverCry 20:02, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
No idea. Dutch angle is a cinematographic concept, far far removed from anything I’m remotely knowledgeable about (and, frankly, interested in). I had used that category (maybe I even created it?, don’t remember) to tag photos that were later better categorized under Category:Intentional camera tilt, as said, and I personally don’t have practical use for a revived Category:Dutch angle; I could argue for its UDEL but I do not want to be “blamed” if it stays empty later on. -- Tuválkin 21:39, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
Ah, looks like that at least this recategorization (done by me) was mistaken: It shows not an example of Dutch angle (which is a subcat of Category:Intentional camera tilt) but filming equipment used to create the Dutch angle effect. When undone, this will redlink Category:Dutch angle. Does this need to go to UDEL? -- Tuválkin 23:11, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
I've restored Category:Dutch angle. INeverCry 23:16, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Short question

Hi, is the cover of a single that was released in the Netherlands in 1926 (some sources say 1929) in the public domain? Just would like to be sure before I upload it. If not, I'll upload it iin enWP as fair use. Thanks! --Randykitty (talk) 20:43, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

I'm more familiar with American covers that fall under {{PD-US-not-renewed}}. You might want to ask a Netherlands-based admin like Natuur12. INeverCry 20:50, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
@Randykitty: it depends on the cover. Do we know for a fact that there is no artist listed for the designe of the cover? If so it is okay, otherwise we will have to know when the artist died. Natuur12 (talk) 21:12, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks people. I don't know about the designer, so I guess it's probably safer to upload it at enWP under fair use. Too bad, because there are 2 other la nguage versions that could have used it. --Randykitty (talk) 22:07, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for adding me to autopatrolled users list. And thank you for your huge admin work. --Jarash (talk) 09:09, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Please take a look

Hi INC: I ran out of time today, could you also look at this gallery. It seems to have a lot of issues. Thanks! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:22, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

@Ellin Beltz: This is a sock of LTA sockmaster User:Πρώτη Σερρών. I've blocked it and nuked the uploads. INeverCry 19:32, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Another

Thank you for looking into File:Richard B. Herman.jpg. I've started an SPI at en.wiki regarding the users and we've discovered other images from the same flickr account being used on Wikipedia. File:Alex_Becker.jpg is the other one that we've come across that originates back to that same dubious flickr account. Could you have a look? Mkdw (talk) 21:54, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

File:Clarence Wooten.jpg also originates from the same flickr account. I think given the copyright watermark on one of the images and they were all uploaded in the same way (SPA for seemingly promotional articles) that the risk of a copyright violation is high here and they should be deleted unless more concrete proof of ownership/rights release is provided. Mkdw (talk) 22:02, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
I've deleted both files and blaclisted the Flickr account. No sock block for Shyam Hewitt or Carlieson? Any other related socks registered here? INeverCry 22:04, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
I've begun an SPI at en.wiki. Bbb23 is checking it out and we'll see if anything else is revealed otherwise this is all that is apparent at the moment. Thanks for taking care of it. Mkdw (talk) 02:06, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

The worst that can happen if you re-nominate it is that it gets kept again... INeverCry 01:19, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
Perfect answer, let's give it a second try then. Is this a dagger which I see before me? *g* Cheers, GeoTrinity (talk) 01:31, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

About Theophrastus

Hi, I asked for reversing the deletion of the file you uploaded as one of my first "beginner sysop" into la.source, following the rule of it.source "never delete a running Index even if it is abandoned, someone could go ahead". Then I followed the link to Gallica and I downloaded the pdf getting two files - merging them, I got one pdf of about 120Mby.

I splitted/cropped it by briss and I got fastly a splitted pdf of about the same size; t.i. much lower than 1.8 Gby!

I can try to upload it into Commons, just to see if its quality is decent, with a slightly different name; I never uploaded a file larger than 100 Mby, but I hope I can do; if anything runs, I can point your la.source Index on it, and if anything runs decently, you or any other willing user could go ahead. Then - and only then - that mega-pdf could be deleted again. Do you agree? --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 21:52, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

If you get a good version uploaded, I could process File:Theophrastus redivivus (Paris manuscript).pdf as a duplicate which would replace all the redirects, etc automatically. Let me know when you've uploaded the new PDF and give me the exact file name of it. INeverCry 22:08, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
I found the page Help:Chunked upload and I'm simply uploading the 120Mby pdf as a new version of the file. If something will go wrong, we can simply rollback that upload; but if the result is decent, the work has been done... --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 22:18, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
Sounds good. I need to learn to think about more simple solutions... INeverCry 22:21, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
I've a slow connection, upload nees perhaps an hour more.... I'll take a good look to the result tomorrow. Time to sleep! Feel free to revert the upload if you dislike the result. --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 22:28, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
A question. How did you get images and build pdf file? I simply dowloaded pdf from gallica and splitted and cropped it in a consevative way - but images resolution turned out much lower than your upload. I tried too to extract raw PPM images from original Gallica pdf by pdftoimages (xpdf collection of tools) and their size was 2000px or less. BW conversion by Scantailor gave a unusable result. --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 15:23, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
This looks like a question for the original uploader. All I did was press my restore button... INeverCry 19:27, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Old postcards

You recently deleted two images of French postcards, per my nomination: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Roscoff-Arrivée des voitures d'oignons.jpg and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Johnnies.jpg. I wonder if we have been too hasty. The same concerns apply to a large number of images categorised under Category:20th-century postcards, all those where the publication date or photographer cannot be established. Should all these be deleted? Should this be raised as a policy question? Verbcatcher (talk) 10:26, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

The best thing to do would be to ask about this at COM:VP/C. INeverCry 16:22, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

--Mapache fc (talk) 03:41, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Sock Farm

INeverCry, we completed the SPI and a CU discovered about a dozen accounts making up a sock farm. The following are images that have been uploaded in the same way from flickr by accounts associated with this sock farm:

This should be the last of them to the best of my knowledge. Cheers, Mkdw (talk) 18:19, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

The Coleman photo is somewhat questionable as the Flickr acct claims to be Coleman while this is a pic of Coleman, etc. I've nominated it for deletion. The other image looks OK as far as I can see. I get no Google search results. I've blocked all the socks from the SPI that're registered here. INeverCry 18:42, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Files of the user Accu-rate

Hello INeverCry,
the user Accu-rate messaged me and asked why his files were deleted and why his account was blocked without warning. I looked at the files and AFAIS there is no adverting. The user also claimed that he is expanding a dewp-Artikel at the moment and need the pciture for that (so out of scope is not given). Could you please re-check the case? Thanks in advantage. --DaB. (talk) 19:25, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

This was the first thing I saw. Does de.wiki allow paid editing by company representatives to write articles on their own company? If this is OK for de.wiki, I don't completely object to unblocking the account and restoring the files, though I'm not all that comfortable with the company account name or the single purpose. INeverCry 19:35, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
DE-WP has a policy to allow company accounts (even if maintained by staff as their normal duty), yes, on the grounds that a known account with a well publicised conflict of interests allows for easier scrutiny of its contributions than with somebody posing as benevolent standard contributor. There's a procedure in place for verifications of those accounts where it is asked to produce a written accord sent by some official e-mail address (read: originating from a company's web domain). en.Wiki vs Commons

Please clarify - in the upload process (which automatically takes me to Commons), how can I ensure that what I'm uploading is going to be local when under a fair use license, etc. which don't belong on Commons? I've become so discouraged with the whole process (as have so many other editors) that I'm now reluctant to upload anything to Commons and just want to make sure the work is exclusive to a local upload.
