Please also take care about second file mentioned in request. Thank you. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:55, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

✓ Done @EugeneZelenko: That one took 3 tries to delete. I get a pretty good number of API request failed (backend-fail-internal): An unknown error occurred in storage backend "local-swift-eqiad". errors when doing daily deletions. Not as bad as when the bug was reported a few months ago. At that time I was getting an error with about 30% of the deletions I attempted! As of a few weeks ago, I've had to switch from Firefox to Opera for deletions, as the buttons in Firefox for VFC and autodel are almost completely unresponsive. Everything works perfectly smooth in Opera though. Who knows? INeverCry 19:28, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

That's OK!

You shouldn't be apologizing since we are all human and have our feelings! No harm done and I'll just task our beloved FlickrBot with that job. Would you be willing to take a look at a few another, I assure you, completely neutral images? The reason I ask is because despite having a long bench of license reviewers, not many of them are actually playing ball as you do. Will be must obliged! Very sincerely, --Nabak (talk) 22:25, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

I was apologizing out of politeness, and certainly not for the disgust with which I view pravi/azov, and any other neonazi/racist groups, regardless of what country they're from. I've reviewed the Yasynuvata-related series of uploads. INeverCry 00:22, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

Re:The Outsiders screenshot

The show didn't go on the air until 1990, so anything coming from it would be under copyright. I see that the uploader says this is own work--could the uploader be thinking of the work to take the screenshot and not the "big picture"--that the TV show belongs to someone else and is copyrighted? We hope (talk) 12:16, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Could the screenshot be moved or copied to en:WP where the use of it as non-free would be OK? That's the only image in the article. We hope (talk) 12:20, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
It could, but with what source? If this was on Youtube, it would've been taken down as a copyvio. It looks like a Youtube thumb. INeverCry 22:38, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
When I posted this, it looked like the short-lived series was on DVD, but there are a few films with the same title. I don't find that this TV show ever went to DVD and anyone with copies had to record it when it was aired. So it's bye-bye to this one. ;) We hope (talk) 22:57, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

My bad Pardon the misunderstanding

I was in some kind of experimental configuration on a freshly installed dual boot and when I first tried to click through to your user pages only the headers came through. I thought that your account was a "dark account" operating out of a no-contact black hole. That is, it somehow had on my browser displayed no discussion page tab or any user information displayed on your WC pages. I had formed a mistaken belief that your role in deleting my good faith upload was being done by a secretive account holder who was not accessible to contact and provided no personal information about themself. That was in the context when I discovered that a deletion "debate" had been opened and closed and the file deleted as suspiciously profiling as a "copyviol". I am sure you can imagine that, having carefully crafted that photo in response to a continuing collaborative disccussion on a WMF project page, I was alarmed and disappointed. I of course take responsibility and if there was a weird technical glitch that caused me to feel that I was in the context of some kind of un-WMF-like secret admin then I guess the take home message is to not jump to conclusions. It did seem at the time to be quite a departure from what I have become accustomed to at WMF, which is of course the case, which is that AMF admins are for the most part open and transparent. Thank you in advance for recalibrating your assessment of my response to that situation, which was in large measure an unfortunate misunderstanding. I plan to maintain an active discussion page and welcome any suggestions regarding preferred metadata, resolution and collaborating information to avoid future deletions. And I have well learned to watch new uploads for the first few weeks lest they do in fact become subject to deletion debates. Cheers. AdvancedCanineScienceInformatics (talk) 19:23, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Can you explain why these files were deleted? There was no reasoning provided. I can confirm that they were cropped from a photo taken by a member of Morgan Griffith's Washington, D.C. staff in the course of their official duties, which I believe makes them {{PD-USGov}}. Rockhead126 (talk) 20:52, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

This is a strange case for me. They were deleted because they failed Flickr review as they're marked ARR there. It certainly looks like they were taken by a paid photog/staffer. I don't deal much with Flickr images/reviewing so I really don't know how to combine an ARR unreviewable Flickr source with PD-USGov. I'll ask my fellow admin Jameslwoodward to take a look at this. INeverCry 22:26, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
The Flickr account which has the image that was cropped for these two is, indeed, marked "All Rights Reserved". If your assertion is correct, that the image was taken by a Federal staffer (and not, for example, by someone on a campaign payroll, or an outside photographer), then Morgan's office is guilty of copyfraud by claiming rights that it does not own.
If you are actually connected with the Morgan office, then the easiest thing to do is to fix the Flickr account -- since that should happen anyway, it should be easy. With that done, either INC or I can restore the images. Otherwise, we will need an e-mail from the actual photographer declaring that he or she is a Federal employee and that the image is PD. If that sounds like I don't trust your assertion, that's mostly true. Policy encourages us to believe a User when he claims "own work", but on all other matters, we like to have a formal statement from a traceable e-mail address, see OTRS. Note that the staffer will not be licensing the image, just confirming that it is PD. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 22:57, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough. At the time, I was employed by another Virginia office (not Griffith's), and I happened to be present. I understand and appreciate the reasoning behind the policy, however. Thanks. Rockhead126 (talk) 02:50, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

FOP

Can you advise on when a statue or sculpture in the background of an image is outside the FOP restrictions on USA works (see below)? Also, I am presuming the significant number of photos in Category:Statue of Seabiscuit DO pass muster? (That one was installed in 1940 or 1941 and the sculptor is deceased) Does the {{PD-US-no notice}} tag need to be added to them? Montanabw (talk) 06:10, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Per FOP above, does File:Jockey busts (4391210874).jpg pass muster? Two are of living people and by the same living artist who did the John Henry statue, the other two are of jockeys who are no longer alive and installed prior to 1977 if this is correct. (Also, Portanova, who sculpted the first two, alsopassed away, in 1979: [1].) Again, please advise. Montanabw (talk) 06:18, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
And in an abundance of caution, I created the crop of File:Longdon and Shoemaker.jpg. Hope that is OK, if not, toss it. Montanabw (talk) 06:53, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
I always go for the low-hanging fruit, so I don't have any experience with pd no-notice/not-renewed. As for the crop, and the Sea Biscuit statue, those are on branches that're well out of my reach... INeverCry 07:05, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
The sculpture's record at SIRIS, suggests that the copyright notice was defective -- that the word "copyright" or the (C) did not appear. SIRIS is not always correct, but we generally accept it in cases like this, when it describes the sculptor's and foundry marks carefully. .     Jim . . . . Curious phrasing

Please see my talk page under File:Hindu Heritage Centre, Bird's Eye View.jpg. I'd appreciate your input/involvement due to uploader's claim of official role and odd phrasing where he sorta claims copyright and sorta doesn't. The articles this stuff was to be used on are a bit slender, see Acharya Surinder Sharma Shastri who isn't even mentioned on Hindu Heritage Centre. The uploader makes several claims in that discussion, please let me know your opinion. You deleted his Sharma Shastri picture, fyi. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:21, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Certainly one of the more believable stories I've heard, or atleast one of the more elaborate. Uploading full-res originals with EXIF/going to UDEL are what I would've recommended too. INeverCry 19:07, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Is there really???

Is there really a {{PD-author|Facebook}} as claimed at File:Bryce Bayens.jpg or did someone just figure out how to game a template? Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:37, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

It's not really gaming the template -- the template is intended to include the name of the PD source. However, Facebook is far from PD -- every page has a copyright notice, so it is not an appropriate use of the template. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 16:31, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Undeletion request

Hello INeverCry!

I don't how it works exactly, but I think it's okay to turn to you as you were the one who deleted the following images: File:MudinImre.jpg, File:Lajos Csejthey.jpg. These were images of Hungarian athletes from the early 20th century. While back then I missed the deletion discussions -- I don't check Commons that often --, a few days ago an image of another early Hungarian athlete was nominated for deletion, however, this time it got bigger attention and it was made clear that they're from an early Hungarian paper titled Huszadik Szazad and it's totally okay, hence the participants of the deletion discussion, even the nominator, agreed upon that it can be kept.

I work among others on articles about early Hungarian sportspeople and the above mentioned deleted images were uploaded from the same source, which does not credit the author and used the very the same rationale, so I think they could be undeleted.

Korean Popstars

Before I cause any trouble with a pile of correctly licensed images, could you take a quick look at this one? I see sources from YouTube and from Korean blogs (the latter have extremely large size and sharp images, but they are all exactly the same). The uploader uses some attribution licenses and some Korean permission licenses - but I'm not 100% sure any of this is right. Thanks! Ellin Beltz (talk) 01:46, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Need a little help from a friend :)

Was working with some film posters and ran into these uploads. The uploader claims a connection with the restored en:Norman Studios but there's no way we can verify that. I've cropped the 2 posters back to only the posters themselves-they're both PD that way but I think the logo is much more recent. All came from the Norman Studios website which now has a 2014 copyright notice at the bottom of the pages.

Thanks for listening! We hope (talk) 18:07, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

I've deleted the 2 old revisions. The 2 logos look ok as text logos, though the cursive one might be close to TOO, or even above it to some. The building image is ok if it pre-dates the upload to the website. The founder pic might need a bit more info. The uploader looks legit to me. The website has contact info, so you may want to send them an email. INeverCry 21:58, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
Then I'll see what I can do with e-mail and the photo. Thanks! We hope (talk) 22:09, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

File:Self created still animation.jpg

Hi, I wanted to know why you deleted the cartoon I created using [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitstrips Bitstrips]. In their terms of service Bitstrips inc. says "You retain ownership of and all right to the Created Content that you create through the Service or share with other users or recipients, including all copyright and other intellectual property rights.". How is this a copyright violation? I created that cartoon of me by using their tool. I only used their service. And they allow users to distribute user created content. If you would enlighten me. Regards.--ChamithN (talk) 14:26, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm going to jump in, since I tagged the image for deletion. I'm not a lawyer, so the terms of use are as cryptic to me as any other layman, but here's how I understand it. You cut off the most important part of the sentence: "Subject to Bitstrips’ (or its licensors’) ownership of any underlying Service Content, you retain ownership of and all right to the Created Content that you create through the Service or share with other users or recipients". "Service Content" is defined as "content provided by Bitstrips or other users of the Service"; or in other words, the actual art components you used to create the image. Continuing on, the terms also state "You acknowledge and agree that the Service may contain Service Content that is protected by copyright", and "With respect to the content or other materials you upload through the Service, other than content or materials made available (and as made available) by or on behalf of Bitstrips". Basically, Bitstrips owns any content they are providing you, while you own any content you create and/or provide them.
Beyond that, the terms also state "...you agree not to display, distribute, license, perform, publish, reproduce, duplicate, copy, create derivative works from, modify, sell, resell, exploit, transfer or upload for any commercial purposes, any portion of the Service, use of the Service, or access to the Service." Commercial use is not allowed, which is a requirement for Commons works.
The deletion discussion here of another Bitstrip derivative also provides an explanation and precedent for the deletion. Thanks, ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 15:24, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Oh I understand now, thank you for your excellent reply User:Kevin Payravi. I didn't know that commons requires a commercial license as well. Thank you again for your great answer.--ChamithN (talk) 15:39, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

Here's your troublesome kitten again... wtheck? & File:Anton-von-Werner.jpg seems odd that someone dead so long could give the license on that page. Help!! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:30, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

I've fixed up the Werner image. It looks like the uploader owns these artworks, or represents the owner/s. The EXIF and size indicate original photos, so I don't doubt him. Too bad the rest are by a living artist. As for the Mexican stuff, permission tagging sounds like a good solution. INeverCry 00:25, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi, it seems that you deleted the file Pushkar_vitaliy.jpg, and I would like you to explain why, if you please.--User:Некрасов Владимир (talk)

You uploaded a small version of the image with no EXIF, while a high-res version with EXIF is available at http://vitaliy-pushkar.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/1-new1.jpg. INeverCry 10:12, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Would you be so kind to explain in a simple words, what should I do now to insert this picture back into the article 'Vitaliy Pushkar'? Re-load the hi-rez version to Wikimedia and then use it? Do I always have to upload the originals with EXIF? If so, do I have to re-load another pictures in this article? 1st Block

Hiya INC, please review this page to see if I handled everything correctly... It's our dear friend the beach buem again. Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:34, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

I've re-blocked the account with no email or talk access, which is the usual thing with an LTA sockmaster like AM. He's not going to talk to you, he's going to create more socks and continue doing what he's been doing for years. I moved the sock tag to the userpage, and removed your short message. He wouldn't respond anyways, but any unblock would have to be of the master account and would require an RFC/unblock request after a long period of no-socking. But you did ok. You'll get used to it. The basic thing is to be hard on long-term abusers, vandals, etc, and be a bit more flexible with people who have smaller problems but are capable of constructive editing, and who you feel are here to contribute. Please look

Hiya INC & (talk page stalker), Could you take a look at this gallery and tell me what you think? Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:37, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Wow... This is a tough one! I would suggest asking a copyright specialist like Gunnex, Jameslwoodward, or Clindberg, or even posting this at COM:VP/C for further opinions, as I'm not familiar at all with Vietnam copyright. We have no active Vietnames admins since Morning Sunshine has been gone since June... INeverCry 00:45, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
I just glanced through them -- I don't have a lot of time as we're going away for a week first thing tomorrow. It looks to me like most of them have copyrights -- even the old photos may well still be under copyright. However, Vietnam has very liberal FOP -- any artistic work except text permanently in any outdoor place and some indoor places is OK, so most of the outdoor things are probably OK. I think you'll want to go through them one by one and nominate some for deletion. Be careful only to put like problems together. It might take two or three trips to VFC. .     Jim . . . . Official name & claim to images

Hiya this morning INC: Could you take a look at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Ekft to see if his claim to the images, magazine covers, etc. has validity? Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:48, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

You should tell him to either contact OTRS or to place a statement at the source site that can be linked to that the images are released under the indicated free license. If he does the latter, I would suggest tagging the images for license review, in case his site ever goes down. OTRS is the better choice though. INeverCry 00:41, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

Imagecity

Hi, you closed DRs and deleted several photographs from this collection, including Commons:Deletion requests/File:Young Man (Imagicity 1164).jpg. However none of these was out of scope, nor were the DRs created with any valid rationale as they confused encyclopaedic notability with being retained on Commons. I have been too busy with urgent personal matters to look at these, however could you look at these again and undelete? It would be helpful if they were covered by a single group DR as they were all raised in the same session by Kulmalukko (talk · contribs).

I'm a little concerned as this sort of precedent does not bode well for the future of my uploads when I am no longer around, if they can be deleted on non-policy related grounds. Thanks -- (talk) 18:35, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

One of the nice things about blocks is that most of them aren't permanent; you're not a copyright violator or a vandal, We're able to have hope that you'll take some time to re-think this since minds aren't set in stone (well, most of them aren't) and that you'll be back here in some capacity before too long. We hope (talk) 00:20, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
@INeverCry, I am sad to see you go as I was sad when Herbythyme left Commons. MANY THANKS for your incredible service during your nearly six years on Commons and 2 years of adminship. All the best for you! --Túrelio (talk) 21:50, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Hey

I only met you on Commons this year, but why'd you block yourself? You were really helpful, and I can tell that you've done a lot for this place. Looks like I'll have to find someone else to clean up my files' histories when they get messed up (by me or someone else, it doesn't really matter). =( Thanks for helping for that short while, and for your other contributions too. I have more to say, but I think I'll leave that for when I have more time. Dustin (talk) 04:20, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

You probably won't see this message, however just wanted to pop in and say a very big thank you for your contributions to both here and other Wikimedia projects. No I don't think anybody who boasts that he deleted hundreds of thousands of images laborously uploaded by fellow users should be missed once he made his departure. Deleting other people's work is not a fate, it's a shame. --Maxl (talk) 11:56, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
Such fellow users should learn the subtle difference between "own work" and "copy of someone else's work found on the internet and claimed under the Ancient Law of Finders-Keepers". Green Giant (talk) 17:17, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Cross-wiki vandal

A huwiki vandal sockmaster has been blocked on Commons by you (Garbera levente (talk · contribs)), and an image uploaded by them has been used on enwiki by another very probable sock; in short, you will surely be interested in the results of this enwiki SPI, and you might want to make sure all known socks are blocked locally on Commons also. Undeletion request for File:La Moine River.jpg

You deleted the file Commons:Deletion requests/File:La Moine River.jpg based on an incorrect claim that the USGS link provided "leads nowhere" and that there is "no way to tell if this is USGS or not." The source in question, clearly linked from the file page, is here: [4], a USGS page with a prominent USGS banner at the top. It's not a dead link; I'm looking at it right now. It's also available at the Internet Archive. So could you undelete the file please? (And I can't help but wonder if anybody checked the deletion request's claim before accepting it and proceeding with the deletion?) Thanks--Malepheasant (talk) 11:05, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. I was actually just planning on looking for a few images for some wiki editing and staying away from Commons otherwise, but then I saw I was still an admin, and I couldn't resist. I still don't like the way Wikidata deals with Commons, stupidly preferring galleries over categories on items, but maybe we'll see a change in 2015. I haven't talked to you much in the past, but when I saw you had left, it made my eyes tear up a bit. Not just 'cause you had left but because it made me feel like this place is starting to lose that sense of stability with old users guiding new ones.

But not to worry, you're back to help handle all my 2000 COM:PACKAGING-related DRs :P

Kidding aside, welcome back! Josve05a (talk) 23:56, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Thanks for returning to Commons and having another crack at it. The crud that goes on behind the scenes does damage the magic, and you rarely get thanked for wading through it. Enjoy the holidays, and consider doing stuff closer to the end beneficiary of what we do here (and on other open knowledge projects) rather than the underbelly. My experience over the last few years leads me to spend more time sharing interesting cultural content that anything else, as that is the most satisfying, least controversial and most likely to leave a global sustainable legacy from the investment of my unpaid volunteer time. Otherwise, I may as well just volunteer to help in my local charity shop; at least there I might share a real pot of tea with my fellow volunteers and get real thanks from customers. :-) -- (talk) 11:48, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
@: It was actually the work I did here related to Wikidata, and the hours I then spent reverting myself here because of their arbitrary preference for linking Commons galleries rather than categories in items that pissed me off like that. The underbelly is a pleasant and much simpler place in comparison. INeverCry 19:08, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
I second everything Jee and Fae have said, especially the "wonderful Christmas and New Year" bit. When a good editor retires, folks often say "we need you here" but in this instance I think it is more true to say "we want you here". Green Giant (talk) 11:55, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I ask you to reconsider your action. User Natuur12 has given wrong information. De notes of 20 and 50 belgium frank is money that does not belong tot the National Bank of Belgium because it was printed on demand of the goverment it self. You can see this information on teh belgium page here and the . The money has no values anymore and can not be given back or exchanged bij de National Bank see also here. The Nationale bank does not own the legal right of these notes. For that reason i think it has been deleted mistakenly. Greetings Vdkdaan (talk) 08:40, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

No mistake has been made since you still need to provide evidence that the bank notes are in the public domain. Natuur12 (talk) 10:03, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
Mistake of the wrong link and wrong argument. We states following

Banknotes denominated in Belgian francs issued by the National Bank of Belgium can still be exchanged for an undetermined period of time. The Bank still owns copyrights with regard to the design of the banknotes it has issued, in accordance with the legislation on intellectual property rights. Therefore, these banknotes may not be reproduced without the Bank's permission, subject to the observance of the conditions the Bank has laid down.

These banknotes do not belong tot the National Bank. So the link to this argument is incorrect. You can jump to another question that is that the Belgium state (legal own) gives aproval but that does not change that your link is wrong. Too hard to say you made a mistake? Apparently. Anyway i took a picture of wikicommons. It was here for 2 years and was believing the issue of that picture was already solved. Vdkdaan (talk) 10:40, 31 December 2014 (UTC
A) the link is not wrong, the Belgium section is not complete just like a lot of summary's about copyrightlaw per subject but we will have to do it with the summary's we have. Feel free to update it with relevant information. B) argument was that the banknote is a derivative of non free content. C) You misinterperted my use of the word mistake since I clealy mean that the deletion was not a mistake. I suggest that you read the manual first before you start speculating and accusing others of making mistakes since you are the one who uploaded a clear copyright violation. Natuur12 (talk) 11:37, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
Because it was already 2 years on wikicommes it was not clear except in somebody's dreams maybe. And who is the one accusing?Vdkdaan (talk) 11:55, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

Archiving help

Hiya INC: A while back you offered to set up auto-archiving on my user talk page (or show me how to do it). Could you/ would you?? Thanks! Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:44, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

I've set it up. The bot will automatically archive threads to User talk:Ellin Beltz/Archive 2 for now. I've set it to do this with threads that've gone 7 days with no comments, but you can adjust that. I have mine set to archive after 3 days. All you have to do is change the number set at the top of your talk (7) but I would suggest not making it much longer, or you'll have a cluttered talkpage. When you want to start a new archive, all you have to do is undelete User talk:Ellin Beltz/Archive 3 and set the bot archive field in the config at the top of your talk (|archive = User talk:Ellin Beltz/Archive 2) from 2 to 3, and add a new link in your archive box (I've added the new link to the current one). Soon User:ArchiveBot will start doing its work. INeverCry 18:43, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

OTRS permission from the company/copyright holder is required before this can be restored. INeverCry 22:37, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
--Jocian (talk) 03:27, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Help with an editor

Heya Inc: Someone unclear on the use of the self license here has uploaded a pile of historicals. I nominated a few obvious uploads the other day (including a signature/firma of a famous person labeled 'self')... and left a note on the user page that all their uploads are self and suggested they change some tags. Well, they changed their user page, so none of that showed... and they did that two times now. I don't think a single one of the old drawings of book frontispage images is really self, but if the user doesn't understand the point to where he's reverting my helpful note on his talk page to nothing, and replying one time at my talk page - not at the nomination page, I think they need help and they don't seem to be willing to get it from me. Could you help? Thanks! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:29, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

I think a note from a French-speaking admin might be more helpful. I would suggest asking @Yann: or BrightRaven. INeverCry 18:22, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
The user in question is almost certainly Brazilian; being warned in French will have the same result as it had in English. All relevant policies, copiously linked-to in the DRs, are however available also in Portuguese, so this user can be assumed to be plainly aware of the problems in question. -- Tuválkin 23:14, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Well, atleast I got my first moment of stupidity for the new year out of the way pretty quickly... INeverCry 00:02, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
Any time! -- Tuválkin 00:44, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Unwarranted warning

Unless you have good reasons to assume an intentional copyright violation (and you don't), the posting of warnings such as this one is completely out of place. User:Josve05a seems to be able to forewarn about deletions of this sort without being unpleasant about it, so I am sure you could do that too.

Commons loses this and some other files because nobody else checked them at the time of upload. The Ingrid Tobiasson image appears to be be in the same category as File:Zetterstrom ake press 1122.jpg and comes from a now-deleted page at the Mynewsdesk account of the Gothenburg Opera. (Unlike this one which comes from the same source but remains available.) --Hegvald (talk) 07:22, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

The notification on your talk was automated. I did license reviews of about 100+ of these great Mynewsdesk images in Category:License review needed. I passed all but 2 or 3, including the one you're talking about, and those I tagged for speedy deletion using a gadget available to all registered users (Help:QuickDelete), hence the automated notification on your talk. Josve05a used the same tool, but chose to tag it as "no source" while I tag the ones I find with dead-link sources as "report copyright violation" - older un-reviewed images mostly end up deleted anyways, my method is just faster. The automated notices are different of course. If a source can be subsequently found, the image can be restored or re-uploaded and quickly reviewed by tagging it with {{License review}}.

As for File:Tobiasson-ingrid-foto-mats-backer liten.jpg, it was tagged by Josve05a for review, I tried to review it, found the link was dead, and had to fail it. I would've rather passed it, but I have to visually confirm a free licence per policy. I'm sorry if you were bothered by this. It certainly wasn't my intent. Hopefully Josve05a's efforts will get this issue of late/no tagging for review under control. The other issue is that we only have a limited number of active reviewers. I do my best, but I'm very busy with admin work. INeverCry 08:00, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

My eyes glaze over after a while

Please take a look at and see what you think should/could be done with this gallery. Thanks! Ellin Beltz (talk) 02:14, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

I'm just about done for today, but that does look like a mess requiring another mass DR. Perhaps if @EugeneZelenko: has a moment he could take a look? Otherwise, I'll take another look tomorrow. How does a religious person justify serial copyvios that are religious images? It's a paradox. INeverCry 02:44, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
I see historical images and coats of arms which are most likely not own works. May be will be good idea to Google regular photos too. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:09, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi, the File Halhul-29558.jpg is not a copyvio, as it was uploaded by its producer to the palestineremembered website. Wikimedia have permission to move the content from there to commons (OTRS ticket #2008122810014342). If you have no further objections, I will restore the file. Thanks. --Tarawneh (talk) 08:37, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

@Tarawneh: I've restored it, and added a cat and description link. Sorry for the mistake and thanks for alerting me to it. INeverCry 17:16, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

File:How to Create Article in Arabic Wikipedia.ogg (deletion)

Hi. I would like to request recovering those two files, as there was no copyvio per the template on the file page, and the original youtube video license. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! --Ciphers (talk) 04:34, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

At about 1:35 to 1:45 of File:How to Edit Article in Arabic Wikipedia.ogg and about 1:20 to 1:30 of File:How to Create Article in Arabic Wikipedia.ogg, screenshots of www.theparisblog.com with shots from another site half behind it are prominently displayed. This is a copyvio, and is why they were deleted. INeverCry 05:29, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

One file restored

Just to let you know that I restored the file in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Emile Heskey 13-10-2012 1.jpg because the uploader cropped it from a Flickr CC-BY-2.0 photo. I had a sudden internet slowdown while I was trying to fix the file page but then found you'd deleted the file. Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 02:44, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the fix. Considering the experienced nominator, I just assumed the Flickr source was NC/ND/or ARR and deleted it... I guess you've got to check the checkers now and then... INeverCry 04:29, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Hello, I was wondering if you can please explain the rationale for deleting this file. I had a discussion with the admin, who deleted it the first time that it would be okay to re-upload the file if I made the necessary changes, which I did.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 21:10, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

The still-visible Guardians of the Galaxy poster below what was blurred out was cited as the issue in this case.INeverCry 02:05, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
IMHO the remaining poster seems to inline with a lot of images in Category:De minimis, but I will try again with blurring out that as well if it can be done without fear of being blocked.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 03:06, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
You can always post an undeletion request and get other opinions if you disagree with my deletion. As for a block, I don't see that happening. It's pretty clear you're working in good faith. INeverCry 03:30, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Archving

Hiya INC: Is there something I should do to turn on the autoarchiving? Cheers!! Ellin Beltz (talk) 00:24, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Nope. The bot will automatically detect threads that've been inactive for 7 days and archive them; you just have to wait. Would you like the bot to archive threads sooner? My talk is set at 3 days, which I think is the perfect setting, but it's up to you. Let me know, and I'll make the change. INeverCry 02:08, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Could you please explain to me how it was a copyvio when the photo came from the manager and was dated 1971? Thanks, We hope (talk) 02:25, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

I could try, but I'm pretty sure it would come out sounding like pure made-up bullshit. I missed the talkpage discussion on that one; my apologies. I've restored it. INeverCry 03:21, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Possible socks

There's a pattern here... Soul of a Bygone Era - Bad Boys Bad Boys Whaca Gonna Do - I'm Nobody's Fool - Midnight Marigolds... HUGS. Ellin Beltz (talk) 22:35, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Obviously the same user, as the same exact source is used for all uploads. I wonder what @We hope: thinks of the copyright provenance of the celeb press photo uploads, and what @Krd: thinks of the use of multiple accounts with suspiciously LTA-sounding names? If these files are OK, why use multiple accounts? And how many other active connected accounts/sleepers are there? Any suggestions as to a matching sockmaster MO? INeverCry 22:52, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Have started looking at the uploads of Midnight Marigolds. They're all from Fine Art America, which basically looks like a cyber flea market for art and prints or an eBay store. Full page for File:Joan Crawford (1905 - 1977).jpg . All of this user's uploads were taken from Fine Art America. The Fine Art seller makes no promises as to whether the photos they sell are not copyrighted and no statement as to who originally took the photos. I think these have been colorized because most film was in black and white circa 1930s-many publicity shots were too. Newspapers didn't do much color back then and even the fan magazines did a limited amount of color photos. The photos look like they may have been improved by the seller, which could open up a new copyright can of worms if they were now PD to start with.
The user's citing of Eve Light Honathaner, who claims that most publicity photos started out un-copyrighted is a page from this Commons-blocked user's bible. But it's at odds with the license-copyright not renewed--he/she has used for the photos. I don't believe the possible sock users are the blocked user. I believe this is possibly a user who is blocked at en:WP and somehow continues to find ways around the system with new IPs and sock accounts. The user I'm thinking of had been a tremendous headache at en:WP. Some time ago, I'd seen some strange activity and asked Courcelles to run a check--he found at least 50 sock identities for this person. The person went around at en:WP changing the religion of people in articles and also their political parties simply on a whim. This is one of the person's socks used there. By the quirky user names, I'm fairly certain the same person blocked at en:WP uploaded Commons:Deletion requests/File:Jo Stafford in 1920.jpg, I've seen uploads I believe are from the en:WP sock here at Commons--none have any proof as being PD other than what the user claims. Let me take a look at the others, but I think we'll find they're questionable too. We hope (talk) 23:48, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
OK-one of the Badboys' uploads; File:Yvonne De Carlo (1922 - 2007).jpg. Taken from here, a photo restoration & colorization business. We hope (talk) 23:57, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Soul-File:Joan Leslie Autograph Color.jpg Taken from a UK autograph dealer who makes no statements re: photo in the public domain.
Thanks for the help, I've asked Courcelles to have a look as well. INeverCry 00:19, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Not one of those four has SUL'ed to en.wp (though one SUL'ed to every other English-language project), which makes me suspect the underlying IP is locally blocked. And, yeah, these uploads are questionable enough to delete them under PCP at least, there's just no way to clarify the provenance. If you do take this to RFCU, would you ask them to please send their results to either checkuser-l or the CU-wiki? Courcelles 00:47, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
@Krd: @We hope: @Courcelles: See Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/Midnight Marigolds. INeverCry 01:11, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
File:Joan Crawford wearing fur and jewlrey.jpg Here's another upload by one of the socks. The person never uploads a lot of photos under the user name of the moment, never starts a user page and from what I've seen, always uploads celebrity photos. Have also never seen any of the socks add any of their uploads to en:WP pages. As I go round Commons, I may find more of them. Any place special you might want them listed? We hope (talk) 01:34, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
File:De-carlo-jewels opt.jpg Another upload, another name. We hope (talk) 01:40, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
File:JoanLeslie.jpg More :/ We hope (talk) 01:46, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. I've added these, 2 of which are locked, to the RFCU. INeverCry 01:53, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

@We hope: I've added a good-sized list of socks to the RFCU, all with live uploads that're in use... INeverCry 03:01, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
The names all seem to "fit" the pattern. This is the last I saw at en:WP of the person that seems to be connected to this. The person used to leave celebrity photo requests for the blocked Commons user mentioned before--always, of course, under brand new en:WP user names. He/she left me one which I ignored because I thought this was a sockpuppet but couldn't prove it. Same with many of the various socks' uploads I sent to DR in the past. I thought these were all the same person but had no proof. We hope (talk) 03:19, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
This may be the guy: w:Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Josh Rumage. Same types of names, same old celebs edits, etc. INeverCry 03:43, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
I think so too. When I hadn't seen anything at en:WP that looked like him, I thought the issue had been solved, as he was very active in socking there. We hope (talk) 03:50, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
check this and now:

File deletion

Hi INeverCry,

I remember File:Frame your measures to tell the story you want 2.webm, however, This was a meetting that the author asked me to upload to commons, she works to Wikimedia, maybe I made a mistake. Thanks --The Photographer (talk) 10:45, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

The video was deleted because copyrighted photos are used in it. I've had to delete quite a few like this in the past week or so unfortunately. INeverCry 19:16, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
My mistake for not watch the video before uploading. I'll talk to staff WMF / WMAR to see what can be done. Thank you for your quick response. --The Photographer (talk) 12:40, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Delinking deleted files

Hi INeverCry, in the last week I came across several (at least 5) images deleted by you that were not automatically delinked from Wikidata (example). In the past delinking from Wikidata was a problem, but since a few months the delinking bot also deletes images from Wikidata. For some reason I have found several images deleted by you that were not delinked. I have found no images deleted by another admin that were still on Wikidata. I don;t know if you are very active, and it is a general problem, or whether you delete differently and it is a problem specific to you. I just wanted to bring this to your attention. All the best, Taketa (talk) 12:24, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

(popped up on my watchlist) Delinker dos not work on wikidata. See phabricator:T66794. Page deletions (but not file deletions) will be automatically removed by mediawiki. --Steinsplitter (talk) 13:59, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for the link. I assumed it had been fixed already since I hadn't run into any problems for a couple of months. All the best, Taketa (talk) 00:11, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

File:Yoogan-Yashmith.jpg

After seeing the restored file (File:Yoogan-Yashmith.jpg), it appears this file is not what the sender described and the sender is not authorized to release this image under a free license at this time. It is possible that these are the correct images the sender is authorized to release: File:Yashmith.jpg and File:Yashmith Pic.jpg. These images should depict a man in a professional photoshoot. Thanks, I appreciate your help! :) Mike VTalk 18:19, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

I've deleted the restored one. The other two both have two deleted revisions. File:Yashmith.jpg is two completely different portraits of the same guy, while File:Yashmith Pic.jpg is the same pic in both revs with slight adjustments. Should I just restore the newest revision? If needed, I could split the first one. INeverCry 18:36, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
I would probably just use the newer revision for now. Mike VTalk 18:40, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Tangled skein for boss kitty

There's a note at bottom of my talk page, regarding this image which apparently the uploader added an OTRS tag, but no license, etc. Can you help out with this one? Thanks!! Ellin Beltz (talk) 06:13, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

I've pinged two of the best OTRS people I know. I was actually an OTRS member myself for all of two or three days back in 2012... INeverCry 06:51, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks! I haven't/won't ask for OTRS rights until I have a lot more experience! Ellin Beltz (talk) 06:53, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

You're a bit of a people person, so you'd probably do good as an OTRS member at some point. You've certainly got more patience than I do. My reason for resigning OTRS had to do with privacy concerns... That reminds me of all the stupid comments I've seen about how checkusers, oversighters, admins, etc should reveal their real identities. I'm sure JarlaxleArtemis/Grawp, David Beals, Wikinger and the rest of the obsessive and unhinged LTA sockmasters would love that. INeverCry 07:49, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

So today's dumb question is ... "what is LTA?" Lighter than Air... Lazier than Alice, so sorry ... confused! And as for real identity, yup this is me. Jim and I had chat about identity one time after I had death threat on my user Wikipedia page and I decided to keep using it, kinda I'd rather be standing up for what I stand up for than worry about basement - trolls. I guess in short... this picture kinda says it all. Chins up!! Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:01, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

"Long-term abuse". Have a read through this: w:Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/JarlaxleArtemis. Having been active in blocking socks here and on en.wiki, and as a CU here, my concern is that some of these sockmasters look for and publish personal info including address/phone number, etc. I live with other people, and so I don't want them to ever have cause for worry of any kind whatsoever because of something I've chosen to work with/help with. INeverCry 18:15, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Aha, I see... :) Thanks for pasting that page. Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:33, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Dear INeverCry , what is the problem with Category:Coats of arms of Cluj-Napoca or Coats of arms of cities in Romania? Pe-Jo (talk) 09:46, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Suspect Birbal Jha image

Hi, we've had a small promotional sockfarm on en-WP regarding a chap called Birbal Jha. You recently deleted File:Dr_Birbal_JHa.jpg here and I suspect that File:Birbal Jha , Author.jpg may have the same problems, since the uploader appears likely to be connected to the farm. It may even be the same photo, although my memory is so poor when it comes to photos that I cannot be sure. Any chance you could take a look, please? Especially if your memory is better than mine! - Sitush (talk) 21:14, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

From this, perhaps? - Sitush (talk) 21:17, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, it's the same photo. File:Birbal Jha ,Author.jpg is a full version, and File:Birbal Jha at his office.jpg is a variant. Can you take a look at Category:Birbal Jha? Is this guy notable? Are all those uploaders socks? I can block and delete as needed, and mention this to a CU as well. INeverCry 21:39, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
To the best of my knowledge, yes this is a sockfarm and the guy is not really notable. There is a slight possibility that it might be meating rather than socking. That said, please see this thread at en-WP. I respect the opinion of RegentsPark and for that reason have not yet nominated the core article for deletion at en-WP. I probably will, if this continues. I would argue, at the very least, the en-WP "not inherited" point but, of course, Commons is not en-WP and I really do not have a lot of policy knowledge about this place. Thanks for looking at it. - Sitush (talk) 01:27, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
Actually, I wasn't even aware that notability applied here. That is a big can of worms. - Sitush (talk) 01:30, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
It reduces what I'm able to do, as does the fact that no indef blocks have have yet resulted from the SPI. If he wasn't notable, I could nuke and block for self-promo; as long as the article is live on en.wiki, I can only delete blatant copyvios speedily. The meal's still cooking with this one - my extra buttons work much better when dinner's been served. I would suggest reviewing the images in that cat and speedy tagging any certain copyvios, and waiting to see what develops in the SPI. I'll keep an eye on it. INeverCry 01:48, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
There was socking involving a past, very recent pair of accounts but I do understand the situation. I didn't even realise that an indef on en-WP might cause anything to happen here, bearing in mind the autonomy of projects. I'll delve further into the category but, regardless, I know exactly where this is going to end up because I am extremely familiar with how this type of Indian contributor works (alas, as many more are perfectly ok). If I spot anything in the category then I will tag it but images really are not my thing - a necessity, not an interest. Thanks very much for your efforts and your comments here: much appreciated. - Sitush (talk) 02:33, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
