Hello, could you please double check this DR, nominator said "[this picture of Voiron is in] no interest [for us]" (pas d'intérêt), but it was used in many wikis for many years, see delinker log. I'm sure you check files before deleting them so please write down the reason for deletion of this photo. Thanks, ℳ₪Zaplotnikcontribs 07:39, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know about it. Every now and then I get caught by a vandal. In this case I thought "pas d'intérêt" probably meant "taken from the internet". INeverCry 08:32, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of Photographs

Hi - I noticed that you deleted the photographs that I had uploaded. I had forgotten to add an OTRS pending tag to the photographs. I just spoke to the copyright owner and he has confirmed that he has sent the email containing the Declaration of consent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org for the photographs I had uploaded. Request you to kindly check and un-delete my photographs. Thank you very much. If there is anything else that I need to do, then do let me know since this is all new to me. Thank you! The list of photographs are:

(not creating a new section for this) I think we should add more informations to Commons:Guide to adminship and maybe renaming it to Admin handbook? --Steinsplitter (talk) 09:03, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
I don't know. It seems to me that most admins just sit around polishing the tools, or sling them into the closet rather than use them, so what's the point? I did Russian FoP restorations for three days, and when I came back to DR, not a single one had been closed in those three days. The top four admins, Fastily, me, Turelio, and Martin H., have performed over one million log actions; nearly one third of all log actions performed in Commons history. Just four admins out of hundreds! The top thirty or forty admins do good work, but after that we have admins in name only. INeverCry 20:39, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

The following was sent to Wikimedia Commons but the photo of John de Ruiter has still been deleted. Can you explain why that happened and how this can be undeleted. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Planktonium (talk • contribs) 13:53, October 8, 2014‎ (UTC)

I've removed the email you reproduced here because of privacy concerns. The email will be handled by an OTRS member, and, if everything is in order, they'll make sure the image gets restored. You can ask about progress at the OTRS notice board. OTRS is very busy, so it could take a little while. INeverCry 21:52, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

In most cases, images from the Nobel Foundation should not be speedied. Here the caveat is that {{PD-Sweden-photo}} applies to photos first published in Sweden, whoever took them (Commons:Simple_photographs). I guess it would also apply if the Nobel Foundation held the copyright on a photo, whoever took it. A substantiated doubt that the photo was first published elsewhere may be a valid reason for DR; otherwise I see no reason for deletion. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 00:12, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

@Materialscientist: @Adam Cuerden: I've restored it and converted to DR: Commons:Deletion requests/File:William Faulkner 1949.jpg. INeverCry 00:35, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
That's such incredible handwaving about copyright. "It might have been published in Sweden first." is not a particularly well-substantiated claim for someone who did not travel to Sweden until a year later. Adam Cuerden (talk) 01:16, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Could you please explain...

Here is another view of the same building

Could you please explain why you closed Commons:Deletion requests/File:Downtown Hespeler (6622482049).jpg as delete?

Pierpao tagged it as a copyvio, and I edited it to remove the copyvio elements.

Mattbuck voiced delete "as now being out of scope."

Okay, did you delete as copyvio?

  1. If so, is this because you didn't recognize I edited it to remove the copyvio elements?
  2. Or is this because you disagreed that I did remove the copyvio elements? In this case can you explain why you don't agree I removed the copyvio elements?

Or did you delete it as being "out of scope"?

  1. If Pierpao's opinion doesn't count because the image no longer contained any copyvio elements, then there is my keep and Mattbuck's delete. Why isn't that a "no consensus"?
  2. If you are counting Mattbuck's opinion that it is "out of scope", and your own opinion that it is "out of scope", did you consider weighing in with your opinion in the discussion, rather than closing the discussion?

In my opinion, as a historic stone building on a scenic river, the image is in scope. Geo Swan (talk) 02:55, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

I closed this per the vote of Mattbuck, which I agreed with completely. All that was left of the image was a nondescript chunk of stone building with a blanked banner with some plain text in the middle. I should've added an out of scope closing rationale, as you say though. My apologies for the confusion. INeverCry 03:31, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
As you can see, the article on Hespeler already had a section devoted to the development in this image --Hespeler, Ontario#Riverbank Lofts Development. I uploaded the image to en.wiki to illustrate that section. Would you agree this establishes the image is "in scope"? If so please restore the commons version. Geo Swan (talk) 01:17, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
As it is, I don't think it adds anything. If you had a photo from further away which showed the banner DM, that would be illustrative IMO, but that gray building end could be anywhere, and all that's left of the banner is text, which can be explained using plain text. My word isn't final of course though. If Matt or some other admin/s at UDEL see fit to restore it, I don't object. INeverCry 01:45, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Clarification please, you initially voted to delete on the grounds the image was a out of scope. Are you now telling me you won't restore this image to the commons on esthetic grounds?
In the interests of clarity let me correct you. You call it a "gray building", it is, in fact a 19th century stone building, rare in Ontario, probably rare where you live too. Geo Swan (talk) 09:55, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
What I said was that I don't think it's in scope because I don't think it really illustrates the subject in a significant way due to the obscuring of the sign and the close framing of the building side. I don't however object to it being restored by others if they feel that it will add to the article and readers' understanding of the subject. I would suggest you file an undeletion request for further opinions. INeverCry 18:30, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Flag of Chinese Taipei Football team

Dear administrator, the present flag of Chinese Taipei Football team is actually Chinese Taipei Olympic flag, I showed several references here. Could File:Flag of Chinese Taipei Football team.svg be delete and redirect to Chinese Taipei Olympic flag? Meanwhile, there is already an identical image here. Thanks.--Jitcji (talk) 08:51, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

One version has Olympic rings, and the other has the Yin/Yang symbol, so not the same image at all. you would have to speak to a Chinese-speaking admin, as I don't know anythinga bout these flags/logos, or file a deletion request explaining why the image should be deleted and redirected. The {{Duplicate}} tag can be used in the case of the two images that are the same. INeverCry 09:02, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Flickr

Hi. Could you provide links to these (l, 2, 3) Flickr-pages? I don't remember these photos, but sure that they have been done by uploader. By the way, abscence of EXIF is not enough to suspect uploader. --Алый Король (talk) 16:26, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

After looking into these in depth, I have to agree with you that the images look to be legitimate and the Flickr authors are long-time experienced photogs. 2 of these show EXIF at the source, but not here, while the other is no longer available. With that one, the uploader on Flickr is a pro who's been on there since 2007, and I'm willing to trust your review. I've reversed my decision on these and restored and re-closed them as keep. Thanks for bringing these to my attention, and my apologies for not looking closer originally.

We definitely need more admins and editors participating in the DR process, so that more attention can be paid to each individual image. I've started to cut down on how many I do, and will continue this. Finding other people to participate is the hard part though. INeverCry 19:42, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

I was going off of uk:Вікіпедія:Вікі_любить_пам'ятки/Львівська_область mostly today, and I see only dates for the monuments themselves w/ no author links. I was able to ID the author of a couple Donetsk monuments I did mass DRs for, but he's living. I've added the pending cat to all DRs to make sure these don't get lost. If I find death dates of authors, I'll add the corresponding cat as well. INeverCry 00:50, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Taking the lack of contesting of the deletion as an implication of consent, I had to agree with the nominator that there was no need to have both files and that the jpg was redundant and so deleted it. I try not to give experienced former admins like Gryffindor too much grief over an ancient jpg uploaded by a 3-years retired editor, but if the decision needs to be reversed, that's all good with me. Wrong file deleted

Hi INeverCry,

I placed file File:Giorgio Vasar retour idéalisé de Grégoire XI à Rome.jpg as a duplicate of the older File:Giorgio Vasari 004.jpg. The latter file is older and has a history that includes different versions, which is important to keep. Could you please follow through with the proper request? Thank you. Gryffindor (talk) 08:59, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

With the jpg deletion above, had I known Billinghurst was involved, I would've passed the DR by. He and I have had issues, and so I don't want him or anyone else to think I'm not maintaining complete neutrality. In the above DR, I didn't look under the hood before deleting because I considered it a pretty simple and uncontroversial DR, but with File:Giorgio Vasar retour idéalisé de Grégoire XI à Rome.jpg, I see Billinghurst is also involved, and there are reverts, so I'd prefer to let another admin handle it. You deleted a lot of logos uploaded by Cheposo, but some of them were probably PD-textlogo. As I recall, this pic for instance File:Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn Wikipedia en Español.svg was a very basic text logo, definitely a PD-text. Could you restore that? And maybe have a look at others? -- deerstop. 08:40, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

I've restored this one, and there are a few more that could be restored per TOO. My concern though is the provenance. He claims it as own work, but doesn't attribute any source. If he draws something from an existing original, he needs to link to that original and what company or series producer holds trademark. In the case of this one I restored, he mentioned Sunrise Studios. He then linked to the en.wiki article on sunrises. This is insufficient. He needs to link to the original source he drew from, and the actual company website of the trademark holder/designer. I've done so for this image.

In the cases of the others that may fall under TOO, he gives even less info. Have you asked him about this on his talk? Is he going to help with sourcing/attribution? He's blocked for a few more days, but he can still use his talk to discuss these. I don't want to restore these and have to search for the company info for each of them. I'm really busy. INeverCry 23:36, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

@Ellin Beltz: Perhaps 5 or 6 of these are below TOO in Japan, and I saw one from somewhere else. Fixing the sourcing/attribution is time consuming, and should be done by the uploader, but I'll do restorations as needed, since I'm the deleting admin. I checked a few of these before closing the mass DR, and they were definitely too complex, but I didn't look at every single one, so I justifiably get bit in the ass. I restored the one deerstop asked about above, and fixed up the sourcing/attribution info. Take a look if you get a chance. INeverCry 23:56, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
I'm sorry the DR caused any problems, there wasn't a single valid source on any of the pages. And it says of course on the upload forms that if you don't provide a source and license the images can/may/will be deleted. I nominated them for total lack of source, not own work I think COM:TOO only applies if there's a valid source for the image file otherwise any old stuff could be uploaded as own work under TOO which so far - at least - has not been acceptable on Commons. Sorry you got bitten, blocked user, copyrighted logos, claims of own work, COM:PRP seemed important at the time. Ellin Beltz (talk) 04:53, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
I've been busy with some much more pressing issues, but it won't take me more than a few minutes to restore the few logos that are ok, and deerstop has volunteered to do the rest. In any event, no biggie, and certainly no sorries needed. INeverCry 07:24, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Thank you so much! Yes, it's clearly not Creative Commons. I've changed the license on this one to PD-textlogo. As for attribution, I'll search for the info myself, don't worry. -- deerstop. 06:03, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

I noticed that you have deleted the photo. Before it was deleted, I added in the discussion that the Iraqi Copyright Protection Act No. 3 of 1971, states that photographic categories can be copyrights free after 5 years from original publication, only if it was used for only viewing, and the photo was originally published in 1986. --Hashima20 (talk) 15:46, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

I would suggest you post an undeletion request. INeverCry 02:15, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

I know I shouldn't keep bugging the same person about it, but...

...I am not sure any other administrators care enough to consider this, so I will just ask you; on File:20E 2014 5day.gif, would you please remove the incorrect advisories (the ones without track lines)? Honestly, if you don't want to, I won't hold it against you, but I am pretty sure that nobody will upload any more incorrect advisories, as the storm is getting ready to dissipate (it may possibly be declared so within the next fifteen minutes). If you would do that, it'd be a great help. I don't like asking to impose such a burden upon another user, but I can't really change it myself, and there are other reasons for which it is helpful to keep out the no-track advisories (reasons which apply outside of wiki usage, so I am not sure it will help to mention them here), which is why I am asking you. Dang it, it's no good. I left for an hour, and within that one hour, that user uploaded another advisory messing it up. Now File:02C 2014 5day.gif is a problem too. This user almost certainly from the looks of it does not know English, but this same user will not go to any lengths whatsoever to translate. I think the user wants to help, but, sadly, doesn't understand my requests (I think). I've dealt with unresponsive users, but I'm never sure whether I've gone about the issues in the right ways... in any case, thanks for responding to my request, and I am sorry again to cause any burden... Dustin (talk) 03:48, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
I've blocked the user for 3 days. I would suggest continuing to try and get him to edit constructively via his talk. You could also try talking to a Chinese-speaking speaking admin like KTo288. The block is meant to prevent this disruptive overwriting, but can be removed if the user will discuss or stop the behavior. INeverCry 04:08, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing the file updates. The biggest issue was actually on the track map for Hurricane Gonzalo, for that is where I actually remembered to leave large, bolded notices, and I actually asked at the help desk earlier, and I was directed to Commons:Village pump/zh to see if I could find a bilingual editor to translate my notices (Google Translate = Very Bad). I noticed you deleted this file and described it as spam. As I remember it, it does not contain spam. What was the reason for the deletion? Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 09:05, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

It contained spam from the following globally blocked proxy: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/178.137.18.145. Your memory failed you this time, unless you don't consider a bot add for Xanax spam... INeverCry 09:13, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Was the spam in the image? Or in the description? Wasn't it possible to revert the change? Now we lost an image because someone added spam to it, which means he won afterall. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 09:18, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Question about deletion request

Hi, I have a question about this deletion request, that web stats that license is CC-BY-SA, then, what's the problem? The request don't explain the problem and I can't see the file now... Cheers, --Elisardojm (talk) 08:34, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

I've redone the DR. An older file was wrongly overwritten with this new file. A history split would've been an option, but simply re-uploading this new version would probably be much easier. I don't know what to call it, as I speak no Spanish. INeverCry 08:53, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
I don't understand all your comment (my english is a little poor), but now I can see the file and I have reused it at Galician wiki :) Thanks! --Elisardojm (talk) 09:18, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry,

Hope you find these pictures of Russian writers useful... or at least amusing. Sealle (talk) 00:20, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Finally, a talk message I'm actually happy to get! That doesn't happen often, as you likely know. It's mostly complaints, and misplaced ones at that. These drawings are very interesting, especially those of the writers I'm familiar with. INeverCry 02:21, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
  • That's very unfortunate, especially since the ru.wiki article on Malakhovsky uses the same Sakharov reference (#5). I personally think the copyright policy of honoring the repression and murder of Soviet artists, writers, and intellectuals by going from the rehab date instead of the date when the person was brutally murdered is disgusting and should be changed. The Russian Federation should denounce and disregard all repressions as invalid, and declare all rehabilitations as unnecessary and void. Until then, unless you can find direct evidence against the rehab date, we're going to be deprived of these images. A 1958 Krushchev era rehab makes sense, and is all too likely. INeverCry 23:20, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

File supposedly in the public domain, but without proper evidence given

Hello INeverCry. Recently you notified an uploader here that he needed to establish copyright permission for his file, File:3dGlobalGeneticPCA.gif. Since that time User:Peasant in Suit has removed your 'No permission' template from the file, but without linking to a web-visible copyright statement or mentioning an OTRS. That person has reverted five times since 16 Oct on the English Wikipedia to add that image to en:Race (human classification). Some of those on the other side of these reverts have mentioned the copyright issue. It would be helpful to have your opinion on the copyright status of the file. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 03:33, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

I've deleted both images, blocked User:Peasant in Suit, and left a message for User:FrankDickworthy. I'd be surprised if we get legit OTRS, but you never know. If you see any further incarnations of this person, or the image, leave me another message. INeverCry 03:59, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Could you, please, provide more precise deletion reason while deleting 2D copy od XVI-century, publicly available art? I doubt we may have any valid copyright claim here. Why do you think the IP who add "copyvio" template was right? Ankry (talk) 06:04, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Looks like a couple of possible mistakes. I've restored both and converted to DR since I don't understand any Polish. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. INeverCry 06:14, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Request for edit deletion

Hello!

Can you please delete my edits here? I misused that talk page for referring to another Wikimedia project and that is not a right thing. Iaaasi (talk) 06:56, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

I can't see any policy based reason to rev-del in this case. I usually reserve that for serious personal attacks, sock abuse, accidental IP edits, inappropriate personal info releases, etc, or to repair file histories after bad overwrites. It's better that you just self-reverted. INeverCry 07:12, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
I can't counter you, there is no policy applicable here. But because of my unfortunate misidentification of "even if" with "even though" in that comment ("P.S. I assure you that Eurocentral is not my account, it would be a waste of time to ask for a SP investigation. Even though he acted at my instructions a couple of times, it is impossible to prove that"), the meaning of my phrase was altered. The result was that I was accused by User:Borsoka, User:Fakirbakir and User:Hoary to have sent orders to User:Eurocentral on the administrators' noticeboard from English Wikipedia. The file was deleted as being from http://www.cp.edu.pl/en/public_relations/startsite_news/spalte_4_oben/wikipedia/pomnik-wikipedii/mihran-hakobyan/index.html, as was mentioned on the talkpage of the file, which I've deleted. INeverCry, thank you for the quick response. Can you additionally tell me what to do if the uploader on Commons and the one who uploaded the very same photo to another page are the same person? --Arnd (talk) 07:34, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
Have both of them email OTRS. INeverCry 07:40, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
? --Arnd (talk) 07:44, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
It was a joke - apparently not as funny to you as it was to me - but I got a good laugh out of it. The copyright holder has to demonstrate that they've released this image under a free license. OTRS permission is one way, a free license tag at the website it was uploaded to prior to being uploaded at Commons is another (unless it was placed on several), and uploading the image in full resolution with EXIF is another. OTRS is probably the best and easiest choice. INeverCry 07:54, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi, could you provide me with the deletion reason for this image? The user uploaded it as "own work", and if there's a doubt, afaik, we usually provide an option to send permission instead of DR'ing/deleting it at once. It's nowhere on Google image search, and it's not "small" as said in the DR (1200x1200px). I try to help a puzzled newbie on our help page, and I'd like to understand what's going on here. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elya (talk • contribs) 13:37, October 22, 2014‎ (UTC)

Hi Elya. I didn't look too closely at this before deleting, seeing that it was uncontested and that a fellow admin, Steinsplitter, whose judgement I trust, was the nominator. I just quickly made sure there was no OTRS pending tag. I have no objection to restoration of the file if everything copyright-wise is found to be ok. INeverCry 21:04, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Hi INC, thanks, I'm myself still a bit puzzled about this deletion, but asked the newbie to provide an OTRS permission. We'll see. --Elya (talk) 21:15, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Request for temporary undeletion

Hi INeverCry,

I am one of organisers of Wiki Loves Monuments in Ukraine and I have noticed you have deleted one or several images illustrating Ukrainian monuments. We would like to copy these images to Ukrainian Wikipedia (we do accept non-free content) and we want to use them at least in monument lists and articles about cities and villages, and also in articles about monuments (we will have an article contest in November) and about people connected with monuments (if it's a grave, a plaque etc. or created by a notable author) if those exist. Those images are very valuable, as many of these monuments have no illustrations on the Internet at all. Unfortunately, deleted images can't be undeleted via API, and I understand that undeleting identical images is a useless work (as we will only copy one main image + possibly some images of important details), so I kindly ask you to do the following:

  • Please undelete the image of the best quality for each concerned monument (to be used as a main article image)
  • Please also undelete all useful images of details of each monument (especially plaques for notable people living in buildings, we will use them in articles about those people)

Once you undelete these images, we will move them to ukwiki using bot (an example of bot's work is uk:Файл:War museum, Kyiv 6.jpg) and I will inform you once it's done so that you can delete them. If you do not want to undelete these images, please consider uploading them locally to Ukrainian Wikipedia, and we will correct descriptions ourselves.

The concerned DRs are:

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Best regards — NickK (talk) 03:15, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

I'm too busy at present. I would suggest posting this request at COM:UDEL, or asking Ahonc as he could likely do this much quicker. I would also alert you to the fact that there are more than 300 open DRs in Category:Ukrainian FOP cases/pending, in case you need to transfer any of those, or if possible prevent the deletions with relevant information. I personally think you should have Ahonc run an RFA for you, as you're obviously experienced and knowledgeable about copyright, and would be only our 2nd Ukrainian-speaking admin. I would personally support an RFA for you. Something to think about.

Another thing I've considered is the need for a warning of some kind, especially during WLM, on wikis of countries with FoP restrictions and/or no FoP, telling uploaders to upload modern images locally if possible, and only old images to Commons. INeverCry 03:44, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

No problem to restore for me, but it may be classified as wheel war in some cases if I restore without asking deleting admin.--Anatoliy (talk) 11:25, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
If you do a temporary restoration, and restore with a rationale like "temp restore for transfer to uk.wiki", I don't think the deleting admin would give you a problem. It isn't wheel-warring since it's only temporary and not a reversal of a decision. INeverCry 21:10, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
@NickK: I've restored all but the top one. Let me know when you've transferred them. INeverCry 21:51, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

Hm, Ahonc is a sysop and a botmaster and though it's true that API doesn't have a query to get deleted file's uri to view it's still possible to get it by parsing desctop interface. At least it was when I tried it last time. Also doen't ukwiki already has animage of the main square of the Ukraine's capital? WP's not a file hosting site (at least it was an encyclopædia when I checked last time) so only when there are no local images of an object a local file should be created. ,imho. --BaseSat (talk) 12:15, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

If you can write such bot write it. About ukwiki rules - if ukwiki sysop ask to move, he know rules, I think.--Anatoliy (talk) 12:55, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
I think I can but I'm not a sysop in here so I won't be able to run it which makes writing senseless for me to begin with. Oh for Heavens sake what are you about? Ukwiki's sysopship means nothing concerning rules knowledge. Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Visem's one of the minorest but handy example of how they are following rules… I'm sure at least 2/3 of them know local ukwiki rules no better than Commons' rules. And that's while the latter knowledge is unfortunately a poor one. --BaseSat (talk) 13:07, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
Imho, it is not commons sysop's problem is ukwiki waste dump or not.--Anatoliy (talk) 13:14, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
As a wikimedian and a relatively active user of both I do care about both. So should we all and you particularly, imho. To aid actions which are violating some project's rules even if there even sysops are doing it is still bad. About noFoP thats all not saying that actually changing one server to a one next to the former, which is moving a file from commonswiki to ukwiki, doesn't really change the copyright/legal/whatsoever status of a file. But while we consider them unfree in here in local projects they are considered absolutely free and thus have no FUR or thing like it. Just a forbidding moving to Commons warning. That's an issue we should think about as well, imho, 'cause it's like continuing doing mischief but away from those who'd scold for it (="bad copyright fanatical Commons sysops"). --BaseSat (talk) 13:35, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for undeleting them. We have already moved the necessary and you can safely delete them back. Please also do this for:

Thanks — NickK (talk) 18:37, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Wow! That's a lot of files! Too much for one admin. I think it would be better to request these undeletions at COM:UDEL now and in future. Besides the time this would take, another concern I have is monitoring and recording of these undeletions. What happens if I lose my internet connection or am unable to edit for a week or even a month or longer? At UDEL this won't be a problem as more than one admin would know about the undeletions and/or be involved. Also, BaseSat makes a good point; isn't uk.wiki violating Ukrainian FoP law by hosting obvious copyvios at high-res with no FUR? I'll add a note about this to the top of this page, and direct all requesters of temporary undeletions to COM:UDEL. INeverCry 21:47, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, but the time you have spent to delete these files should be equal to the time you can spend on undeleting these files, isn't it? If it was not too much for you to delete, why is it too much for you to undelete? The probability you lose Internet connection is approximately the same as for any other admin, thus technically there is no difference (of course except you are living in a place where you have extreme problems with Internet).
Concerning BaseSat's point, these are not obvious copyvios: Ukrainian laws have a number of excemptions regarding use for education and news purposes, which is enough for Wikipedia in any resolution but not enough for Commons (as commercial and promotional use are not allowed). What can be improved is the wording of NoFoP template on Ukrainian Wikipedia, but BaseSat as any other editor of ukwiki can raise an issue about this (but instead of raising the issue on Ukrainian Wikipedia he did it here).
So should I expect you will undelete those images, or should I ask on COM:UDEL instead? Thanks — NickK (talk) 22:46, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
I would suggest you ask at COM:UDEL. I would also say that from a legal and ethical standpoint, deletion of copyvios from Commons is much more important than temporary undeletion for transferral. INeverCry 23:57, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
While legal point may be worth further discussion (FoP was proven by Ukrainian courts to be difficult to enforce in practice, as most monuments are created by architects on the order of municipality with too complex copyright relations between them, and in practice there was only one sculptor who tried to enforce copyright on the monument — and failed), I completely disagree with the ethical point. We have numerous authors who travelled to other villages with the only goal of making images of these villages for Commons, some of them uploaded on Commons first ever image of the village in question (not just first image on Commons, but first image on the Internet). It is very demotivating for people to see their images deleted, especially without any possibility to change this: in most cases architects or sculptors are unknown even to municipal councils or regional culture and heritage departments, which makes obtaining permission just impossible. While deleting well-known monuments in big cities make little harm (easy to find identical image on the Internet), deletions of monuments in small villages is much more harmful, as in most cases equivalents do not exist. That's why I do think transferring these images is a very important task from ethical standpoint, and with your current speed of some 100-150 nominations a day (with some being completely wrong and thus requiring careful review) that's a challenge — NickK (talk) 08:12, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

According to new scopes of copyright law, removal of this image was invalid on the date it was removed. Please restore it as it is only a detail of part of a work of art. Those wHo recommended it for deletion may have misunderstood British copyright law scope and interpreted it incorrectly. As I hold copyright of the image, the content is effectively IP protected too. The text us a written explanation of the entire work of art which is a wooden screw sculpture and prose description of that sculpture. The objects are both in a public place and visible from public property which protects the photograph from copyright breach. Ashattock (talk)

The admin who nominated it, Mattbuck, is from the UK, and so I would suggest discussing this with him, or posting an undeletion request at COM:UDEL. INeverCry 01:37, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
@Ashattock: , the issue is that in the UK you can get freedom of panorama for "works of artistic craftsmanship" but not for "graphic works". This particular image isn't of a sculpture, it's a diagram of the coastline visible. For me that is on the cusp between artistic and graphic, so I nominated it for deletion as a precaution. -mattbuck (Talk) 08:55, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

Deletion requests

Hi! Please stop hunt for my pictures. That's monuments from Soviet Union times and not connected with NoFoP in Ukraine and in Russia. Also most of my photos connected with WikiLovesMonuments competition. In this case why do we do this competition? And if You Never Cry, please don't make to cry other people :) --Visem (talk) 22:27, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

I'm not hunting for your images. The first mass-deletion I did was incorrect and it was directed that individual problems should be addressed on their own. Ukrainian FoP laws indicate that an author has to have have been dead for 70 years in order for a work of sculpture/a statue to be out of copyright, or that permission from the author/heirs has to be obtained if a work is too new. I'm nominating for deletion those monuments that don't seem to meet Ukrainian FoP requirements. I've nominated for deletion the images of numerous uploaders, and am not targeting any one uploader. You should also be aware that these images are being transferred to uk.wiki by a bot before deletion (I don't know if that applies to all images, but I know that some are being transferred). INeverCry 22:42, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
By the way, you're not quite right, that's not 70 years from death but death before 1951 per {{PD-Ukraine}} (and URAA is irrelevant as it was promulgated simultaneously with extention of copyright from 50 to 70 years in 2001). Which means all monument whose authors died before 1951 or those published anonymously before 1951 are in public domain in Ukraine, and not only monuments whose authors died 70 years ago — NickK (talk) 00:22, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the note. I'll make sure to keep away from those. The vast majority of the DRs I'm doing are 1960s and newer. INeverCry 00:25, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

File:Syed_naseer_ahamed_redeclaration_of_release_of_his_books_under_CC-BY-SA_4.0.pdf seems to indicate that OTRS permission's been sent. Atleast one of these is in use at te.wikisource with the corresponding book, so the author is likely in scope, though a search in Telegu would give a better idea of that. You could check on the permission at COM:OTRS/N. INeverCry 01:30, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Naturally they decided to reupload them straight after you deleted the files, despite several previous warnings about not simply reuploading. The OTRS ticket is in French and was handled by @Jcb: . Green Giant (talk) 09:21, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

Of course here are the following files : (Retrait du lien Rail_palette.JPG, supprimé sur Commons par INeverCry ; motif : Copyright violation, see commons:Commons:Licensing) (annuler) Transporteur_à_rouleaux_libres.JPG, supprimé sur Commons par INeverCry ; motif : Copyright violation, see commons:Commons:Licensing) (annuler) (Retrait du lienPoste_de_travail_dans_un_environnement_de_manutention_continue.JPG, supprimé sur Commons par INeverCry ; motif : Copyright v...) (annuler) The article is in French so the OTRS is in French too, i don't understand why my files were deleted, is it a mistake ? Thanks --Lesconvoyeurs (talk) 09:44, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

I never received an answer with file names after upload, so I did not know the files were already uploaded. In the ticket I could properly identify you, but one thing is missing. Nowhere in de ticket I see a statement that you agree with the release into the CC-BY-SA license. I just sent you a new message. Could you reply to my email message and state that you agree? Request for explanation and/or undeletion

Hi, You deleted https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Lucydecoutere.jpg&action=edit&redlink=1 (00:19, 31 October 2014 INeverCry (talk | contribs) deleted page File:Lucydecoutere.jpg (Copyright violation, see Commons:Licensing) (Tag: HHVM) (global usage; delinker log))

I believe that it is not a copyright violation based on this copyright information contained within the page where I found the image: "Content is available under CC-BY-SA."

Here is the original page with the file in question: http://trailerpark.wikia.com/wiki/Lucy_Decoutere ...and the file by itself: http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130803221508/trailerpark/images/0/08/Lucydecoutere.jpg

If it is still considered unacceptable, please give me a more detailed explanation.

Thanks. Geordie.birch (talk) 11:03, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) File description page has no license, FYI. — revimsg 15:02, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
The image is sourced to Kevin Winter/Getty images, and is dated 2008 (the movie premiere it was taken at happened in Jan, 2008): http://www.zimbio.com/photos/Lucy+Decoutere/Screen+Media+Films+Premiere+Trailer+Park+Boys/WC_v2pJd45B. The version from trailerpark.wikia was uploaded in 2013, and is a copyvio by them as they show no evidence that Kevin Winter released this image under a CC-BY-SA license. We would need OTRS permission from Kevin Winter to host this image on Commons. INeverCry 19:45, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

Blocked user

Since the blocked user removed the discussion where you mentioned me, just to update you on that, I didn't take any further action because the trouble seemed to be focused on FredD who proved perfectly well able to take care of self. I was only peripherally involved and sometimes I ask you questions about what "would or could happen" and then don't do it. I found the behavior odd of continually blanking the user page and claiming inactivity whilst being very active, but I personally received nothing that would lead to any administrative action from that user. Update only, no action required. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:09, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

Extended bio removed from talk page

I'm not sure how much extraneous comment Commons tolerates on talk pages, so I am checking with you to make sure that I have not been too BOLD with this edit, removing a 500-word biography of the subject. The same text was submitted via AfC on en:wp, declined on notability grounds, and has just been deleted as abandoned after six months. Revert me if this was wrong. JohnCD (talk) 17:55, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

Looks good to me. The same text can be found at w:User_talk:Nilkamaladak#Maestro_Artist_Sri_Mrinal_Kanti_Das. INeverCry 22:18, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @ JohnCD, looks like both images on that page are likely copyvios, see Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Tamashi.jpg & Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mrinal Kanti Das.jpg. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:52, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Oh no, another question. :)

I recently found some movie poster sites with posters from France, Germany and other countries. I'd like to enlarge what we have in posters for the non-English speaking wikis. I would be limiting this to posters before 1923, which would be covered by US-PD, but am wondering about anonymous works. Some posters aren't signed by the artist who created them and all we have is the name of the film studio and sometimes that of the print shop that printed the poster. In this case, can you invoke the "anon" since we don't have the name of a person but a company? Thanks, We hope (talk) 18:40, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Another question that's above my pay-grade. I know less than you, so I would recommend COM:VP/C. INeverCry 18:47, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Will do-will copy the question from here to there--Thanks! We hope (talk) 18:51, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Another history cleanup request

Sorry that I've kind of made you my go-to person for this, but please only remove Advisory 24 by Typhoon2013 on File:21E 2014 5day.gif. I believe that while I did try to make the three notices prominent, that he still by bad chance didn't notice. Thank you very much. Dustin (talk) 21:59, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Kjetil Prestesæter

Would you mind checking into User:Kjetil Prestesæter? The guy is removing warnings from his talk page, despite being sent the {{Dont remove warnings}} warning. He is now also being problematic with me on COM:AN/U. He also seriously needs to calm down, because most of his recent edits are showing anger. A big warning would be pretty reasonable, if that is what you want to do. DLindsley (My talk page) 22:23, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Already taken care of, see here. Natuur12 (talk) 22:26, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
New Hi INC & (talk page stalker)! Whisker wiggling here... Please see this discussion and please review this talk page, as I see some additional situation here and somehow am feeling the presence of folks trying to "game the system". While I see a pile of external links on that page which was started on 29 October, I don't see any citations and searching the name of the actress calls up piles of photos, I'm not sure this polychrome monstrosity is even of her at this point, unless she's lost a pile of weight - which is of course always possible. Thanks for helping keep an eye on this. Cheers!! Ellin Beltz (talk) 01:46, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

امیر توکل کامبوزیا

سلام٬ من متوجه نمیشم٬ این عکسها به لحاظ قانونی برای من هستند٬ چرا حذف میشن؟ حق کپی رایت نقض نشده اصلا — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrecorot (talk • contribs) 18:58, November 2, 2014‎ (UTC)

I would suggest posting an undeletion request at COM:UDEL, or asking a Farsi-speaking admin like Meisam or Ebraminio. INeverCry 04:26, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
−ebraminiotalk 09:00, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrecorot (talk • contribs) 11:02, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrecorot (talk • contribs)

ممنونم −ebraminiotalk 19:14, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Is this the right license?

Hiya INC: Please give opinion, this uploader put up a pile of images from the Australian War Memorial, I'm just not sure they're licensed correctly atm in the file descriptions. Uploader gave them a "self" licence. See [1]. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 08:30, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

It's 1AM, so I'm about to hit the rack. Perhaps @Russavia: or @: might be able to give these a quick look. I haven't dealt much with WW2 images, or with the CC-PD-Mark-1 "license" much. INeverCry 08:47, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
OK, done... When you have a second today, could you read the discussion at my talk page where you are mentioned? Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:25, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
It looks like you've handled it perfectly so far. I'll keep it on watch. INeverCry 22:44, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

One more question

Hi, INeverCry. Do you remmeber one day you deleted by mistake some photos that I uploaded few years ago. You kindly restored them all except this one. Can you remind me what wrong with it? --Алый Король (talk) 14:07, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Looks like the only thing wrong with it is that I didn't restore it too. I've done so now, and re-closed the DR as keep. My apologies for the mistake/s. INeverCry 22:33, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Good pictures

Hey! Question for ya... So I see that there are "good pictures" just as there are featured. Where can I nominate files? Or is there such a process here on Commons? I've uploaded several pictures I think are worthy of featured/good quality, most of them not my own, though :) Just confused about process. Thanks in advance — MusikAnimal talk 06:19, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

For guidelines, have a look at Commons:Image guidelines. Nominations are done and reviewed at Commons:Quality_images_candidates#Nominations. INeverCry 06:26, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

Mistake deletion of an ESA-Rosetta-NAVCAM CC-BY-SA IGO 3.0 image

Hi :) I see that you have deleted File:Comet_67P_Philae_landing_site_20141030_NavCam_mosaic.jpg today. I tell you that the European Space Agency has licensed all ESA/Rosetta/NAVCAM images under a Creative Commons BY-SA IGO 3.0 since November 4, 2014 (http://blogs.esa.int/rosetta/2014/11/04/rosetta-navcam-images-now-available-under-a-creative-commons-licence/). My past deletion request is invalid. Please, can you revert your deletion of this picture ? Thank you in advance and sorry for that. Sincerely, --Neptunia (talk) 22:46, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

By this message I take this opportunity to inform you that there are another pictures that must be deleted from Commons because aren't NAVCAM images and haven't ESA permission for use on Wikipedia : File:Cartographie_comète_01281.jpg, File:ESA_Rosetta_Philae_landing_site_context.jpg, File:Ros_lutetia_10_juillet_2010.jpg, File:Rosetta_CIVA_20141007_selfie_at_comet.jpg and File:Rotating_view_of_comet_on_14_July_2014.gif. Please, can you do it ? Thanks. Sincerely, --Neptunia (talk) 22:55, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
File:Comet 67P Philae landing site 20141030 NavCam mosaic.jpg was tagged for speedy deletion by Ellin Beltz. As for the deletion requests you point to, I'd prefer to wait the usual 7 days. INeverCry 23:04, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
Ok it was not me. - File:Comet_67P_Philae_landing_site_20141030_NavCam_mosaic.jpg is licensed under a Creative Commons by ESA since Nov. 4, 2014 (please read this ESA blog page). Ellin Beltz was tagged it without read its license section ! This file is used by some Wikipedia pages in different languages... --Neptunia (talk) 23:15, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
I restored the image, I didn't know ESA had opened up the NavCam images under CC license. Sorry for the inconvenience! Ellin Beltz (talk) 02:53, 8 November 2014 (UTC)
No problem ! Thanks ! ;) --Neptunia (talk) 08:04, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

Colla Jove de l'Hospitalet logo deleted

Why did you delete File:Colla Jove de l'Hospitalet - escut.jpg?? It is the logo used for this colla castellera and I don't understany why you just deleted it. I would like to know an explanation. Thanks. --Catalaalatac (talk) 17:57, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) This logo had been listed for deletion because it was too complex for the original licence {{PD-textlogo}}. Obviously the logo consists of more elements than just plain text and geometric elements because there are these two original figures in it. That means you need permission from the original artist to upload it here. It looks though like the nominator forgot to notify you about that deletion discussion. copyvio repeat

I see you're on the job, so could you have a look at File:Blue_dragon.png. It was deleted the other day as a copyvio, it's been reuploaded again by Medium69. He continually reverts the copyvio notice insisting it's his own work. The image is all over Google, e.g. http://www.dragosien.de/dragon/Luxus-Bunti. I think that he thinks that just because he's recoloured it that it's now his own work. He's reverted twice now and I'm not getting into an edit war with the guy. He is a repeat copyvio uploader, and frequently lists other people's work here as his own when only making minor changes to them. Incientally, he's French and I don't think his English is that good. Cheers. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 01:24, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

This is my job. I put online for many years on forums. Stop your harassment. More when I resumed work and I change, I let the previous authors (Sorry my english). --medium69 (talk) 01:28, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
I've re-deleted the file because it was previously deleted as File:Baby dragon bottle milk.png. In order to have a deleted file restored, you would have to post a request at COM:UDEL showing that you are the copyright holder. Please don't re-upload it again, as you might face a block of your account. INeverCry 01:48, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
I will not take my head with you, but also calm Fred the Oyster harassing me for several days now please. Thank you for your understanding.--medium69 (talk) 02:12, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
Medium69's idea of harassment is me reverting changes he made to the authorship of File:Spaccato vulcano.svg‎. He is confusing the author of the source image with the author of the vector image. The author of the source image is correctly attributed via a thumbnail link to the original artwork, and I am listed as author of the vector artwork as I created the SVG from scratch. So could you please explain this to this young man as he seems to be rather confused and not a little pissed off at the dragon being deleted. And as seem to be the target of his ire, he's now making inappropriate edits to description pages of work I've created. He also doesn't seem to understand about revert/edit wars. Thanks. Sorry, BTW, for dragging you into this BS. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 02:19, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
I understood for the subtlety of the author, and I pulled Luigi. By cons, it's been almost a week since you harass me. And I'm not talking about the dragon ! I would find peace.--medium69 (talk) 02:21, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
I realize that I was not the only one being harassed . I intended to report his harassment made against me, but I see that it is not worth it : Special:CentralAuth/Fred_the_Oyster.--medium69 (talk) 00:19, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
