Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

category:Equestrian portrait paintings[edit]

"Portrait painting" is not the image of Saint George or Atilla. Image of George is "sacral painting", and Athilla - "history painting". Please read the defenition of portrait genre en:Portrait - it is always the image of real existing person painted during his life or soon after his death. If somebody painted Napoleon in early 19th century, during emperor's life - it is portrait. And if somebody do it right now in 21nd century - it is again "history painting" or "history portrait" (more related to history, than portrait). I was found so only maps of Danube by Marsigli on pages [1] , [2], pictures and maps in the book: DR. MÁRKI SÁNDOR II. RÁKÓCZI FERENCZ [3] , for exemple : A DUNA TÉRKÉPE MARSIGLI »DANUBIUS«-ÁBÓL. trans. Map of Danube in »DANUBIUS« by Marsigli.

Ahoj Pe-Jo, A little change was necessary with numbering of monuments in Slovak republic. The number consists now at begin the okresy number, because the number as standalon is not unique in slovakia. Ahoj Pe-Jo, at first I say thank you for the good fotos. Second I want to inform you, that now you can find lists in the german wikipedia about each community (obec) about the monuments. Thea are de:Denkmalgeschützte Objekte in der Slowakei.I think, if you cannot speak german, you can understand the lists too. The descriptions are in the origin slovak language and the templates are similar to yours in the lists in sk:Zoznam kultúrnych pamiatok na Slovensku. You would help me to add fotos from you, because you know, what you stored as foto :-) The fotos theyrself are marked here with the template. Cluj-Napoca Coats of Arms[edit]

Please do not add keys for the coats of arms with Cluj-Napoca. All coats of arms are name by a standard (ROU_County_City_Name_CoA), so the images are sorted by default. Wrong category for Gheorgheni, Cluj[edit]

You've putted the Category:Gheorgheni, Cluj in Category:Cities and towns in Cluj County. The wright categories are Category:Villages in Cluj County and the Category:Feleacu, Cluj. The coat of arms image you've putted in Category:Gheorgheni, Cluj is also wrong. You're confusing Category:Gheorgheni, Cluj (village in Cluj County) with Category:Gheorgheni (city in Harghita County). Musichistory2009

Bots[edit]

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

The simple solution is to simply include the "rawcontinue" parameter with your request to continue receiving the raw continuation data (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&rawcontinue=1>). No other code changes should be necessary.
Or you could update your code to use the simplified continuation documented at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Query#Continuing_queries (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&continue=>), which is much easier for clients to implement correctly.

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Szia, talán belekerültek pl. iskolák melletti füvesített sportterületek (nem csak én tettem oda), vagy hasonló területek, melyek a játszótér és a többfunkciós sportpálya között vannak. Azóta ( 2 év) színesebb a skála, át lehet helyezni nyugodtan, de csak focipályának nem nevezném mindegyiket. Majd még megnézem. Vážený pán Pe-Jo,

Dlhodobo som sa rozhodoval, že sa Vám ozvem. Dôvodom môjho kontaktu na Vás, bolo moje pohoršenie s Vašimi zásahmi do zobrazených umeleckých diel. Okrem Vás sú ešte ďalší ľudia, ktorí takto nesfunkčňujú prehľadanie výtvarných diel.

Ako príklad uvediem súbor Statues in Bratislava. V tomto súbore plastik nie je socha M.R. Štefánika. Je začlenená do súboru Pamätník Milanovi Rastislavovi Štefánikovi.

A teraz si dajme príklad, že ste výtvarník a hľadáte inšpiráciu. Otvoríte si súbor Statues in Bratislava, kde sa Vám objaví celý súbor plastik. Na úrovni Media in category v pravej časti je zelená ikonka na, ktorú dáte kurzor a otvoríte ju. Objaví sa Vám Categoria Slode slideshow. Kurzor dáte na šípku a pokračujete plynule v prehľadaní plastik.

Tak ako je to teraz v súbore Statues in Bratislava, na plastiku Štefánika musíte ísť do súboru Pamätník Milanovi Rastislavovi Štefánikovi a to je zdržanie, pokiaľ sa táto kategória otvorí.

Verte mi, že stránku umeleckých diel navštevuje veľa ľudí z umeleckej fronty zaoberajúcimi sa tvorbou výtvarných diel. Tým, že umelecké diela dávame separátne (sólovo) komplikuje záujemcom život. A určite oddeľovaním jednotlivých plastik nezvýšime záujem o túto stránku.

Osobne som presvedčený, že sme veľmi skomplikovali súbory v • Slovak National Uprising • World War I memorials in Slovakia • World War II memorials in Slovakia. Tak ako dnes sú rozdelené do jednotlivých regiónov mali zostať aj v pôvodných. Tam bolo od 150 – 180 pamätníkov. Na prehľadanie, tak ako som hore uviedol bolo vynikajúce. Dnes vyhľadanie niektorých pamätníkov je veľmi komplikované a človek sa k tomu dlhodobo musí prepracovať.

Len na upresnenie ja som "Category:Pamätník Milanovi Rastislavovi Štefánikovi" začleňoval do "Category:Monuments and memorials of Milan Rastislav Štefánik (ktorú kategóriu som ja vytvoril kedže je viac pamätníkov )a nie súbor ... Kategória "Statues in Bratislava" už tam bola. Podľa môjho názoru bratislavský pamätník pred novým divadlom by bolo vhodné premenovať z "Category:Pamätník Milanovi Rastislavovi Štefánikovi" tak, aby bolo jasné, že je to v Bratislave a nie inde a pre cudzích radšej po anglicky. Nemyslím si že by som robil komplikované veci, skôr naopak niektoré pamätníky neboli vôbec zaradené do takých kategórií , ktoré si zaslúžia ( sculptures, resp. statues ). Szia! Nem 'neheztelek', de szerintem akkor sem jó. Akkor inkább Republic (band) 2010-09-05 kellene, hogy legyen (akkor a 2010 concerts in Hungary, Concerts in Budapest, SzeptemberFeszt 2010 kategóriák 'alá' lehetne tenni) vagy Republic (band) in 2010 is lehetne. Egyébbként túl van kategórizálva. Igen , vagyjából az is volt az elképzelésen, hogy évekre, vagy eseményekre felbontani az együttes képeit. Tavaly készítettem róluk több képet is ... Egy zenekarhoz nem csak a személyek tartoznak, de sok minden még, pl. a dobfelszerelés, ki volt az énekes egy időszakban...stb. Azért 'ügy', mert a kép készítője reklamált a vitalapomon, hogy miért került 'láthatatlan' kategóriába a fotó. Nem értelek kedves Pe-Jo. Az 56-os forradalom,-illetve annak a járművei,-elvben országos volt. A jelen kategórianév ennek felel meg szóval nem a Category:Vehicles in Budapest hanem a Category:Vehicles in Hungary része és elvben minden képet külön be kellene tenni Category:Vehicles in Budapest kategóriába is. A korábbi névben Category:Hungarian Revolution of 1956 in Budapest-vehicles szerepelt a Budapest szó is vagyis egyértelmű volt csak budapesti járművek vannak benne. Ráadásul ha csak a budapesti járművek szerepelnek akkor Category:Hungarian Revolution of 1956 in Budapest kellene szülőketegóriának és nem a jelenlegi Category:Hungarian Revolution of 1956.

Szóval vagy át kellene nevezni (és a Category:Hungarian Revolution of 1956 in Budapest kategóriába átteni) vagy talán még jobb lenne az alkategória pl. Category:Vehicles in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 (Budapest) a (Category:Vehicles_in_the_Hungarian_Revolution_of_1956, a Category:Hungarian Revolution of 1956 in Budapest és a Category:Vehicles in Budapest-ből megcsinálni és oda áttenni vélhetően minden jelenlegi járművet tartalmazó képet mert jelenleg minden 'járműves' fotó budapesti (szerintem pl. Kedves Pe-Jo, az sajnos elég komoly gond, hogy plusz munkát csináltál. Az, meg hogy 'Nyugodtan lehet változtatni' szerintem nem megfeleló hozzáállás. Most a "koronamegelőzéssel" töltöm napjaimat. Ehhez viszonyítva írtam a "komolyabb dolgot". Nem tudok annyit angolul, hogy megvitassam a vitalapon.Nem tettem semmit,ami miatt ilyen hangnemben írjon valaki, hogy én felesleges munkát csinálok, stb. Amikor a kb. 500 fényképet kategorizáltam az 1956-os forradalommal kapcsolatban, akkor nem segített senki. Később lettek a kategóriák bizonyos módon változtatva. Azt gondolom, hogy magyar ember magyarral magyarul jobban meg tudja beszélni a több éve fent lévő dolgokat. Ha jobb ötlet van, akkor nyugodtan lehet változtatni. Már említettem, hogy nem én változtattam a kategórián úgy , hogy nem megfelelő, hisz át van irányítva. Több iszteletet kérek és kevesebb személyeskedést. Vatican Museums: sub-categories by subject and by author put into top-category by century.[edit]

Hi, Pe-Jo. Excuse my poor english (I'm Italian and I write in english with extensive help of google). Since April I'm committed to clean up in the category and sub-category of Vatican Museums. For each museum and exhibition space in Vatican Museums, I'm trying to categorize each item by criteria (if known and when appropriate): i.e. by century, by object type, by artist (for paintings in the Pinacoteca and in the Contemporary Art Collection), by material, by place of discovery (for archaeological findings exposed in museums of antiquities), by production area (for example Roman antiquities or Etruscan Antiquities) and by room. I'm afraid that the work will last a lot of time.

In some categories of the criteria "...by century" of the paintings in the Pinacoteca Vaticana, you're adding entire sub-categories, like "Paintings by (artist) in the Pinacoteca Vaticana" and like "16th-century paintings of Madonna and Child in the Pinacoteca Vaticana".

I think that it is not the right method to classify these categories.

1) Categories as "Painting by Sassetta in the Pinacoteca Vaticana" have stardard name, since they are created in function of the Author, and not of the century in which he produced his works. Even when an artist has produced all his works in a single century. Unfortunately, maybe someone could add more files, in the future, with works of that author made in different centuries. You could not use the same method, for example, with Orazio Gentileschi, who worked in 16th and 17th century.

2) You could create over-categorization, when leaving one or more files in the "root" of the top-category, i.e., "15th-century paintings in the..." AND in the sub-category "Painting by Sassetta in the...", in the same branch in the category tree.

3) You could create over-categorization when you tie the sub-category "16th-century paintings of Madonna and Child in the Pinacoteca Vaticana" into the top-category "16th-century paintings in the Pinacoteca Vaticana", when one or more images are classified into both categories.

To avoid these inconveniences, you should put into the category "YYth-century..." only individual paintings: specific painting, not all the paintings of a certain author.

In addition, sub-categories such as "Paintings of Madonna and Child in the Pinacoteca Vaticana" should be placed into a new category "by criteria". For example, creating "Paintings in the Pinacoteca Vaticana by subject". Better, also inserting into it sub-categories for other important subjects, for example "Paintings of Saints", "Paintings of Epic heroes". And "16th-century paintings of Madonna and Child in the Pinacoteca Vaticana" should be placed into a new category "Paintings in the Pinacoteca Vaticana by century by subject" (or "by subject by century").

For now, for the reasons above, I'm detaching these sub-categories from the top-category "Paintings...by century". For reminder, I will insert a "See also" template link to sub-categories concerning subjects (Madonna and Child). If you would like to help me, please put into the categories concerning the century of production only individual artistic works, and not sub-categories with all works by an author. And please put sub-categories concerning subjects, like Madonna and Child, as part of a new top-category "Painting by subject in the Pinacoteca Vaticana".

Ciao, I saw that you made a new classification for Pietro Bussolo, I think the division by categories is very useful, but the "Sculptures by Pietro Bussolo" category is useless, it is better to divide it by different sub-categories, such as "Altarpiece", "Saints" , "Madonnas with Child" etc.. there is a lot of useless categories, that made to find the files in a difficult way.

When an Artist has a small catalogue like Bussolo, we don't need so many categories and sub-categories. If you would like to organize the file please follow the basic rules of the general category in commons: main categories is the name of the artist "PIETRO BUSSOLO", sub-categories should be "Saints by Pietro Bussolo" - "Madonna and Child By Pietro Bussolo" - "Crucifix by Pietro Bussolo" - "Altarpiece by Pietro Bussolo".

Categories like "Madonna by Pietro Bussolo" with subcategories like "Virgin and Child" etc... are not necessary.

Everything should me much more clear and easy.

Szent Vendel mint állat[edit]

Ennél a kategóriabeszúrásnál sejtésem szerint arra gondolhattál, hogy Vendelt általában állattal (juhhal, marhával, kutyával) ábrázolják, de azért ez messze nem mindig van így, azaz magányos Vendel-figurák is az állatszobrok kategóriájába kerültek így. Kedves Pe-Jo! Úgy látom, tőled ered (2012-ből) valamilyen forrás alapján(?) az, hogy Grigoletti festménye Tiziano festményének másolata. (A magyar wikin megbeszéltük Voxfaxszal [5]). Kérlek, javítsd a Category:Assumption of the Virgin by Titian (copy) alá besorolt Grigoletti mű Category:Assumption of Mary in Esztergom Cathedral leírásait és a másutt megadott besorolásokat, mert a festmény nem másolata, maximum utánérzete a Tiziano azonos tematikájú festményének. A File:Levelek, római katolikus templom belső tere 2023 16.jpg már inkább nevezhető másolatnak, mégpedig "szemérmes" másolatnak (a kassaihoz hasonlóan, amely a Tiziano félének egy részlete), mivel lepleket alkalmazott a kis angyalkáknál a festő. Nem tudom, még hova szóródott el az információ az évek során, azért kérlek téged, hogy az előfordulásoknál légy szíves te javítsd. Köszönöm szépen! Cat.s we do not need[edit]

Hi Pe-Jo, small categories like The assumption of Mary by Peter Paul Rubens (Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium), for one painting with two files are not helpful. They prevent to have an overview over the group of files.
The supercat The assumption of Mary by Peter Paul Rubens with 10 files and 9 subcats is not too big. Now we cannot realize without further openings what the paintings in the very small and unnecessary subcats are. It is always better to keep a good overview, without too many subcats, but well sorted. This is my opinion and also of others. While other editors prefer the opposite. Szia! A "Category:Louis of Anjou in Chronica Hungarorum" - ban benne van a "Category:Chronica Hungarorum". Akkor szoktunk/szoktak a fő kategóriát is odatenni , ha pl. írás van mellette ( jelen esetben nincs a kép mellett). Az írások is fontosak... Lehetne olyan kategóriát is csinálni, hisz sok kép mellett van szöveg is. Engem különösebben nem zavar, (nem is én döntök ilyenekről) hogy meg van "készítve " a fő téma pl. ha " címerek " lesznek " kategorizálva , hisz ezen a konkrét képen címerek is vannak és aztán más kategória is oda van csatolva a fő kategórián belül. Én ezt nem látom, hol? Ha ezt nézem, csak ugyanazokat a képeket látom, maga a krónikában egyetlen egy kép van Nagy Lajosról, nem értem miért kell külön kategória egyetlen képnek: Category:Louis of Anjou in Chronica Hungarorum

Ha rámegyek a linkre nem tudom hogyan jutok a krónika többi képéhez.

Ha erre rámegyek itt kellene mutatni a krónika összes képét, így könnyen át lehet látni az összeset: Category:Chronica Hungarorum

El tudnád magyarázni a logikáját a kategória eltávolításoknak? Hogyan lehet hogy "Matthias Corvinus" "Hunyadi family" "John Hunyadi" el van távolítva olyan képekről amik Mátyást illetve Hunyadi Jánost ábrázolják?

Szerintem van hely bőven sok kategóriának is. Én nem hinném hogy a legtöbb ember úgy keres képet hogy "milánói festmények 15 században" és csak akkor lát egy Mátyás képet, lényegében senki sem fogja megtalálni őket. Mit gondolsz? Szia, A Krónikában az lenne a megoldás, ha minden oldal fel lenne téve (megoldható, de erre nincs időm) és a képek meg lennének számozva. Az első oldalt így oldottam meg Chronica Hungarorum|01. Szia, a "Hungary photographs taken on 2008-07-12" a fénykép készítésének időpontját jelöli (ebben az esetben éppen Magyarország területén) pontos dátummal. Csak megjegyzem, hogy egy szobor helyét meg is változtathatják, de lehet más is.... Ezek rejtett alkategóriák nem függnek össze az ábrázolt szemállyel.

A Category:Statue of John Hunyadi (Millennium Monument, Budapest) kategóriában benne van Hunyadi János neve angolul. Ha minden képhez meghagynánk a főkategóriát, akkor leterhelné a rendszert. Az ú.n. "járőrök" egyik feledata, hogy a rendszer terhelését könnyítsék, pl. ilyen módon (is). Ha valaki kápet keres Hunyadi Jánosról, akkor egy kattintással talál különböző formában ábrázolást róla, vagy bárkiről pl. "...in art", ha több ábrázolási forma áll rendelkezésre. Tudnál erre válaszolni: Ha valaki az összes Hunyadit ábrázoló képet szeretné látni a Commonson akkor mégis hogyan tudja őket megtalálni ha a főkategória el van távolítva? Mi a menete a képek megtalálásának így?

Szia, megkérlek, hogy ne tegyél a Hunyadi János ábrázoló képek mellé még Category:Hunyadi family kategóriát, hacsak nincs a családdal kapcsolatos egyéb információ is a képen! Felesleges, hisz H. János a család tagja.

A "Category:John Hunyadi in art" tartalmazza Hunyadi János mindennemű ábrázolását. Mindenki megtalálja - szobrok -Sculpures , képek - portaits formájában + a krónikában írások és képek is szerepelnek (szerencsére), ezért külön kategóriát is kapott, de a fő kategória is megmaradt a szöveg miatt. Remélhetőleg a krónika többi oldala is felkerül és Hunyadiról is lesz még ott bejegyzés. Sajnos nincs időm mindig reagálni ....

Ilyen szavakat, hogy háború kikérem magamnak. A járőröknek vannak feledataik, pl. hogy a rendszer fel legyen szabadítva felesleges dolgoktól. Próbáljuk egymást segíteni, nem személyesen, de a rendszert - pl. ha látunk egy képen fontos dolgot, pl. címert , akkor próbáljuk azt beazonosítani. Tartalmas szerkesztést kívánok. Akkor ez is pl a "sculptures of John Hunyadi" kategóriába kelljen hogy kerüljön: File:Millenniumi Emlékmű3.jpg így van?

Szia! Ezeket a kategóriákat - "Category:John Hunyadi", "Category:Hunyadi family" Te szerkesztetted a File:Millenniumi Emlékmű3.jpg képhez. Nem tudom , hogy miért kell Hunyadi János képéhez még a családot is oda helyezni, közben ahhoz a képhez külön kategória is van, csak utána kell nézni a szobrok között, hisz ott megvannak a szobor készítésének az adatai (is). Meghagytam, hogy változtathass, nem győzök mindent. Közben a kép készítésének dátumát törölted, ami már "rongálásnak" számíthat. Ez a kép File:Millenniumi Emlékmű3.jpg (szobor) nem szerepel a "Category:John Hunyadi in Chronica Hungarorum‎"-ban, hisz ott más ábrázolási médium található, nem tudom miért írod ezt.

Bármely kép dátuma, ha tudjuk, hogy mikor készült fontos lehet különböző okok miatt, ezért kérlek ne töröld!!!!

Szia! Köszönöm a választ! Amikor még töröltem a dátumot akkor még semmit nem tudtam arról hogyan van ez a kategória rendszerezés, de most hogy beszéltünk már jobban értem. Nepomuki-szobrok - álló férfiak szobra[edit]

Szia! Biztosan kaptál róla értesítést, hogy visszavontam egy kategorizálásodat. Nem elsősorban azért, mert a magyarországi Nepomuki-szobrok nem Aberdeenben vannak, hanem azért is, mert a hazai Nepomuki-szobroknak ugyan 96%-a valóban egy álló férfialakot ábrázol, de nem mind: vannak fekvő (ravatal), térdelő (mennybevétel) és ülő (a híd korlátján vízbe vetés előtt) szobrok is. Category:Secondary economics schools are NOT a subcategory of Category:Economics schools![edit]

You keep on changing the parent category of Category:Secondary economics schools to Category:Economics schools, but that is not correct.

"Economics schools" are called "schools" in English, but in fact they are comparable to universities, perhaps even post university, so they are not about high schools or secondary schools. And therefor they should not be a parent category of Category:Secondary economics schools. See also the parent categories.
Instead, both should have Category:Economics education as a parent.
