Hello. This school is located in France, so there is no FOP. It could be accepted only if considered as below TOO (see COM:FOP#France). Moreover, this picture does not seem to be the uploader's own work (it is not even claimed as such). It can be found on the web: [1] (same size, 2009). So I think it could be speedy deleted, or at least we could start a regular DR. Best regards, BrightRaven (talk) 18:19, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. I was so intent on the French FoP issue, I didn't even think to see if it was a web copyvio. I've deleted it. INeverCry 18:39, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

File:Navstar-2.jpg

Please can you clarify the rationale for deleting File:Navstar-2.jpg. I can't find any link to a discussion, report of a copyright violation, nor any evidence or explanation as to whose copyright the image violated. My understanding was that it was a public domain image produced by the US military and I am therefore somewhat confused as to why it has been removed. --W. D. Graham 23:35, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

I've restored it and converted to DR. INeverCry 23:49, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

Unclear on Concept

Hiya INC: My eyes glazeth over at this one, please see [2] and notice that the librarian of some library thinks they can release copyright on unknown photographer images from the 1940s to 1960s. I nominated ONE for deletion, can't imagine taking on this whole pile, but they're all the same - from a photo collection of mid20th Century stuff, with copyright releases by a librarian. Please show me how to work through this one? Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:52, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

I would suggest posting this question to COM:VP/C. INeverCry 18:58, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
Done, see [3]. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:07, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
Well, an answer arrived, but it doesn't give much guidance. See here. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 21:23, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
Give it some more time...and some more...and some more...what were we talking about now? INeverCry 21:30, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

About your question-

I don't think this user is related to Josh Rumage. The person looks to have a different editing pattern there than Rumage and his many socks. This one has been at en:wiki since 2013. I'd be surprised to learn of any connection to Rumage. We hope (talk) 00:13, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the consult. We'll let this one sit for now. You never know with sockmasters like JR though; MyCanon and MaybeMaybeMaybe surprised the hell out of me and quite a few others... INeverCry 00:20, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
This is another one of Rumage's socks. I don't think this one ever edited at Commons. We hope (talk) 00:52, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Autopatrolled promotion

I really appreciate the recognition that your promotion of me to autopatrolled implies! I don't always get all the details correct, but I try very hard, and you've motivated me even further. Dcrjsr (talk) 01:29, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

You're welcome. That's nice to hear. INeverCry 01:34, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

An ordinary DR does not really address the problem, I added an entry on COM:ANV#VorteXLP. –Be..anyone (talk) 06:26, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

I made a mistake tagging the photos that was part of the deletion request above, in which was kept. Could you please restore the ones you deleted? 1989 21:04, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

✓ Done INeverCry 21:28, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
The closing of that DR is wrong imho (since when does FOP in Turkey overrule the copyright of US film characters?) so I would suggest a regular DR. I agree that undeleting those files for now is the right thing to do of course since they are kept in the past :). Natuur12 (talk) 21:36, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi, why you deleted this file? Drzewianin (talk) 19:13, 12 January 2015 (UTC).

File:Nevena Kokanova.jpg was deleted by another admin, so if you're referring to a different image, you'll have to provide me with the exact name of the file or a link to the deleted file page. INeverCry 19:27, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

deleted Nancy Lieder pic

Hey. The deleted picture as noted here http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:NancyLieder.jpg was indeed uploaded by the person herself (i.e. a selfie). Shall I then ask Nancy to upload a new pic of herself not already available on the internet? Emphatik (talk) 22:01, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

The important thing is authorship. If she's going to upload an image that she took herself, or handed the camera to someone to take, thats ok, but if it's an image owned by someone else, such as a portrait, it would be better for her to have the author/copyright holder of the image contact OTRS to give permission. She could also ask OTRS about the deleted image being restored if she's the copyright holder. INeverCry 23:55, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
thank you for your quick response.I'll just ask her to upload a new pic that doesn't create doubts about copyright/authorship. cheersEmphatik (talk) 06:39, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Why the hurry?

7 days have not passed, the discussion is still ongoing, and more importantly the original picture was submitted with the right licence. So, why delete the cropped file citing copyright violation? Place Clichy 11:40, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

We have File:Philippe Honoré, dessinateur de Charlie Hebdo (crop).jpg, which is a higher quality image with proper attribution. You could also make another crop of different dimensions that would be higher quality than the deleted one, which was uploaded as a web copyvio in violation of the copyright of User:Mpayot. If you disagree with my deletion, feel free to post an undeletion request at COM:UDEL. INeverCry 17:55, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
Well OK, it seems that someone has crooped the better quality picture. I guess there is no use in restoring the deleted file. Happy editing! Place Clichy 16:59, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Mongolian public art

I see you erased the photograph on a street in UB I took of Marco Polo, though Article 16 of Mongolian copyright law allows for certain use of images (The deletion discussion never cited any specific law). Why, then, are all the images (hill-side painting and two statues of Genghis Khan) not also being deleted? Kdammers (talk) 12:23, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

I may very well have made a mistake. Mongolian copyright certainly isn't my strong suit. You could post a undeletion request for more opinions. Make sure you give the exact name of the file. INeverCry 17:45, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

INC, I wonder why you kept this. The keep !vote only referenced a previous DR in which the issue was an entirely blank image summary ([5]). The !voter is the one who made the correction, a bogus addition of, for example, {{PD-textlogo}} (you'll note this is not text) and {{PD-shape}} (you'll note a crown is not a simple geometric shape). Эlcobbola talk 18:18, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

I actually didn't take a closer look since the keep vote was from a highly experienced and trusted editor like @Gunnex: , whose judgement I've always trusted. I'm fully responsible of course though. I have no problem with reversing my keep and deleting the file, or with any other solution that involves deleting it, but I'd like to see if Gunnex wants to comment here about this case first. I'd also be reversing a keep by @Yann: , which I can't remember ever doing before either, so if he wants to comment on this file, that would be welcome too. INeverCry 18:38, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
On second thought, Elcobbola may be right. I reopened the DR. Thanks for your spotting that. Regards, Yann (talk) 18:50, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, INC and Yann. Эlcobbola talk 19:04, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the fast fix! Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:53, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
I've done all the needed deletions and blocks. I've been dealing with ad service spammer/s for at least a year now. I've seen other moving company accts, and a lot of essay-writing website ad accounts. Same kind of image uploads for all. If you see any others, let me know, or you could get in some nuking/blocking practice if you feel like it. INeverCry 18:07, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
I'm getting close to one year as admin, (February 24ish) and would like to reread all the scary stuff about nuking & blocking... which pages do you find the most informative on the subject? Kitty gets lost in the tangle! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:24, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

this person I don't want to delete it because I'm not an admin. ;) Thanks! We hope (talk) 01:51, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

I have no problem with this one. He's contributing images and not advertising any company, putting up a CV, etc, which is what I usually delete. I wouldn't want to discourage someone who's making good contributions. INeverCry 02:34, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
Then a good thing I asked you! :) We hope (talk) 03:11, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Ears wiggling

Hiya INC: Looking at https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/YSSYguy&offset=&limit=500&target=YSSYguy, I'm wondering (a) how this person got autopatrol rights with so few edits, and (b) where they've been from so long ago til now when they went on a flurry of deletions... any ideas? Ellin Beltz (talk) 22:15, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

The autopatrol was done by a long-time Commons admin, based on their editing experience at en.wiki. Aircraft-related stuff looks to be their specialty/area of interest. INeverCry 22:26, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
Aha. Ellin Beltz (talk) 22:34, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi, INC. I'm a little concerned about this file, since (a) I suspect it might be a copyright work, for reasons I've outlined to its creator at User talk:Victuallers#File:Geoffrey monmouth.jpg and (b) I'm unclear whether it's supposed to be a portrait (it would have to be an imaginary one) of Geoffrey of Monmouth or not. The file's title suggests so, but in the Description is what appears to be a denial. Several articles on Wikimedia projects have taken it as a portrait, and as a G of M fanatic I should be sorry to think we were helping to permanently attach a portrait to him which is perhaps of someone else. Frankly, I'd like to see the back of this file. Do you think there are grounds for deletion? --Antiquary (talk) 17:41, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Is there any way you can call or otherwise contact the church where it's located, perhaps by email or letter, and ask them how old the window is and who designed it? The church website mentions a Victorian remodeling; if the window dates from that period, it should be free of copyright. As for the ID as Geoffrey, that can of course be disputed, but the artwork itself comes from a notable religious site, and is a quality work of stained glass, so I don't see a deletion via scope happening. INeverCry 19:12, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
Excellent, I'm on the case. --Antiquary (talk) 21:30, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
Ah, the hell with it, vicars have too many other things to do. I'll let this drop. And thanks for pinning the Autopatroller badge on me – I feel almost like a grown-up now :-) --Antiquary (talk) 11:09, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Question how to proceed, when the sockmaster is not known

Good morning,

I have a question concerning the process of identifying possible sockpuppetry when there is no suspected sockmaster available.

We observed in QIC that a new User Nostredamus appeared only for casting a vote in the consensual review of a discussed photo. It is suspected, that someone is promoting the photo but does not want to be identified. How to apply in this case for a checkuser case? Cheers, --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 08:45, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

When I was a checkuser, I would've had to have seen 2 or more SPA's accounts like this editing in the same area in order to run CU. If/when more of these turn up at QIC, I would suggest posting at COM:RFCU. I would also point out just from a quick look at CentralAuth, that the uploader/nominator is from fr.wiki, the only wiki Nostredamus happens to be registered at. [6]/[7]. "Working" isnt

Hiya INC: Please see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/2014/12/25#Copyrighted_U._S._license_plates, where I "kept" all the plates because the nomination was impossible to deal with dozens of different plates from different states. While the system let me "kept" the images, it has hung up on "working" and a spinning wheel for the actual nomination close. Any suggestions? Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:22, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

This happens to me all the time. It's a server error. All you have to do is refresh the page and try again until it works. One refresh usually does it. I hope you're using Chrome or Opera, because Firefox is terrible with DelReqHandler lately. INeverCry 19:17, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Strange log summary

You deleted several files, for example File:Shivratri chik 8x8.jpg, per the discussion in Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Karunaadu Party, but the edit summary mentions a different deletion discussion (Commons:Deletion requests/File:Flag of the Republic of Ezo.svg). I'm not sure what went wrong here (a bug in a script?), but try to be careful in the future as the log summary is confusing. --Stefan4 (talk) 15:08, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

That's one of the strangest things I've ever seen doing deletions. I used Help:Gadget-DelReqHandler as always, and how it would link another DR from the same day that isn't even closed yet is beyond me.

@Rillke: Any idea what would cause such a thing? I restored the files in Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Karunaadu Party and re-deleted them with DelReqHandler, and it worked fine this time. INeverCry 18:49, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Let me note that I did the first one by hand (the one Stefan links above), but the rest, like File:Revanna Hasan.jpg I did with DelReqHandler just now, after seeing that all the files in Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Karunaadu Party had the wrong DR link. Katch 22 Sixties Band.

Dear Sir, I have added an uploaded file of an advertisement which appeared in the Melody Maker magazine in 1968 for Katch 22. I have previously submitted a true and correct history of this band, of whom I was a founder member in 1964, but the article has been rejected. I have done as the previous adjudicators have suggested, i.e had a look at other sixties band pages, and copied the format, but my page on the site does not upload as I have edited it. All of the photographs are owned by me and I have the rights to the name and the copyright. Can you help me to edit the page into 'Wiki' format, in order that the story can be told.

Kind Regards, Mike Eastman ( Katch 22 ). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mike-eastman (talk • contribs) 07:13, January 19, 2015‎ (UTC)

Hi Mike. We don't host PDFs like the one I nominated for deletion here. This material would have to be presented as a Wikipedia aricle. I'd offer to help there, but I'm really a bit of a hack. You might try the AFC process over on Wikipedia, or you might want to ask an administrator at Wikipedia, like Diannaa or LadyofShallot for some assistance. They're far above me when it comes to writing Wikipedia articles...and many other things I'm sure. INeverCry 19:07, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Reply to my question on the Help Desk

I'm curious, why did you revert the anonymous user's reply to my question on the Help Desk asking for a source to people in Iraq and Syria allegedly torturing homosexual people before killing them? JIP (talk) 20:03, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

I first took the comment to be offensive to LGBT people, but after reading it again, I see it's questionable but not meant to be offensive. I've reverted my actions. I was a bit over protective/vigilant in this case. INeverCry 20:14, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Would you mind restoring my AWB access and my filemover flag? They were removed as redundant to my admin flag, but since I'm not an admin any longer (inactivity got me), but will be working with images again, I'd like them back. Files undeletion

Hello, I have gotten the required information regarding the copyright status on those recently deleted files. I have also received the legal owner's permission for releasing them in the public domain and will have them send an OTRS email soon. Hi INeverCry, via Commonsdelinker you challenged the copyrights of Dutch Coat(s) of Arms (in this case De Friese Meren). This is incorrect as as a Dutch Ministerial Notice (Ministerieel rondschrijven) states: the municipality holds no rights of creation of the coat of arms. There is also no objection against the use of a municipal coat of arms al for localising objects that are traded or that are being advertised, just as long it is ensured that no impression of municipal involvement or responsibility is created so you CAN'T claim "Copyright violation"!!

This image depicts a coat of arms of a (former) Dutch governmental jurisdiction, municipality, province, water board (Dutch: "Waterschap") or diocese. These coats of arms have been registered with the Hoge Raad van Adel [1], and are/were being used by the organisation to which the coat of arms was granted by Royal Decree (Dutch: Koninklijk Besluit). Every person is allowed to use the image of the arms, with some restrictions, see fragment below of the Ministerial Notice memo MinBiZa (Dutch).

Fragment from the memo: The depiction of a municipal coat of arms is allowed: the municipality holds no rights of creation of the coat of arms. There is also no objection against the use of a municipal coat of arms al for localising objects that are traded or that are being advertised, just as long it is ensured that no impression of municipal involvement or responsibility is created.

In view of Dutch legislation the use of the arms or reproductions thereof is regarded as being in the public domain. Everybody is allowed to make a drawing of the arms (on paper or electronically) in his/her own style based on the Royal Decree and claim it to be the arms of the municipality and uses it within the restrictions shown above. But there is copyright on each individual representation of the arms. This copyright lies with the artist that made that specific drawing based on the Royal Decree, not by the municipality.

I urgently request you to take this in consideration when you challenge copyrights with Dutch Coat(s) of Arms - Bramvr (talk) 19:30, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

Hello Bramvr, the part: "Everybody is allowed to make a drawing of the arms (on paper or electronically) in his/her own style based on the Royal Decree and claim it to be the arms of the municipality and uses it within the restrictions shown above" means that everybody is allowed to draw an original (!) picture in his OWN STYLE (!), not to pick pictures from the internet that are made by others and release them on Commons for commercial use. The removed images are not within the license of PD-gemeentewapen. The original image from the Hoge Raad van Adel is not own work from the uploader, there's no permission from the municipality. FOP in Ukraine

Hello,

Please do not delete my monuments images due to FOP rights in Ukraine.

The FOP law was finally registered in Ukrainian Parliament on December 29, 2014. It is considering now in a special parliament committee and should be accepted in 1-2 months. http://w1.c1.rada.gov.ua/pls/zweb2/webproc4_1?pf3511=53262

If you delete these images it would affect not only Russian "Kharkov Monuments" article but also a lot of other articles in Russian Wikipedia, especially articles about 1917 Revolution heroes. Kharkov was a capital of Soviet Ukraine till 1934 so it has a lot of monuments of Revolution leaders. My photos of these monuments were used in Russian articles about these leaders, the same thing with monuments of Russian poets and cinema heroes - these images are used in articles about them.

Thank you! User:Avaness (talk) 06:47, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Some assistance

Hey INeverCry! May I ask if you could please help pitch in helping out clearing this extremely backlogged category over at the English Wikipedia? Also, I have requested file moving for many files that shadows Commons files, however the local file(s) under the same name at the English Wikipedia were fully protected, and so redirects were left behind, if possible could you delete them? Thanks, ///EuroCarGT 20:35, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

I'm very busy here on Commons. This is the main reason I turned in my adminship on en.wiki after being taken to Arbcom rather than fighting to remain an admin there. I will try to do a few file moves if I get a chance though. INeverCry 20:59, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
Okie dokie, thanks. I'll try to be more busy here, hopefully helping out backlogs and etc. ///EuroCarGT 01:16, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
One thing you never run out of on any wiki is backlogs. The biggest and most important backlog we have on Commons is Category:Media needing categories requiring human attention, which goes back 2+ years and holds close to 500,000 images. INeverCry 01:22, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
Will work on that! Thanks. ///EuroCarGT 01:54, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Reupload deleting images

Hi INeverCry, you recently delete two images because of my bad choice to licensing (File:Qumak-biuro-Warszawa-Eurocentrum.jpg & File:Biurowiec-Eurocentrum-Qumak.jpg). I have permission to share these photos under (CC BY-SA 4.0), so my question is how i can reupload this images because uploader don't let me do this. Rafał Urbanek (talk) 07:35, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Permission would have to be confirmed through the OTRS process. The images can be restored once permission is confirmed. INeverCry 20:50, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the information, the process has already begun Rafał Urbanek (talk) 11:29, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I saw you reviewed this file as {{Cc-by-3.0}}, but I don't see the license version on the website, only "License: by", where did you find the version? Thanks. Thibaut120094 (talk) 17:59, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

That's what I understood the "by" to mean: the latest cc-by license. The other freely licensed images from that site say simply "by-sa" or "zero". You could check this with one of our native-Russian speaking admins, like A.Savin or Ymblanter. This is the way they display free licensing on http://trainpix.org in my experience. The uploader Xenotron might be able to comment on this too, but I don't know what his level of understanding of English is. INeverCry 23:57, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
I do not know, and there are no details at the website, except for the license=by. It is probably safer to ask the uploader.--Ymblanter (talk) 07:36, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

Marat Safin Hopman Cup 2008 1.jpg

Hi, I have just one more request. A couple days ago I uploaded File: Marat Safin Hopman Cup 2008 1.jpg, but there is a something wrong. Later I discovered File:Marat Perth.jpg in 2009!, where he wore same shirt as previous edition 2008! It's impossible. Moreover he didn't play in the tournament (and Russia team as well) — 2008 Hopman Cup. If you can, please delete that file, it's a fake. Thanks.--Kacir (talk) 01:16, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Association football logos of Turkey

Hi INeverCry. First, I want to say that I'm sorry for your health issues. I don't know you, but you seem one of the vital users in here. This DR is closed by Taivo and he deleted most of these files. There were many users who say "we should keep them" (including me) and they gave reasonable comments about the issue. But Taivo deleted these files anyway. What is to point to discuss if he would delete them anyway? Some logos may had wrong licanses, but it is easier and "better" to fix their licanses rather than delete them.--Rapsar (talk) 12:23, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm dealing with dental insurance issues too. Six hours on the phone so far today, and still going... As for the DR, I'd recommend filing an undeletion request. INeverCry 23:22, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi, there's currently a discussion going on at File talk:Georgia Topography.png regarding including disputed borders of partially-recognized states. Since you are an experienced user that I have encountered many times I thought I would ask you to join the discussion so that a consensus would be reached a lot sooner. Thank you! --Leftcry (talk) 08:20, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Experienced in some areas, but maps are definitely not one of them. I have no idea what the right version is. I notice the editor currently engaged in an edit-war with you was blocked indef a while back by Magog the Ogre for edit-warring and then unblocked after agreeing not to edit war again. You may wan't to check with him about this. He might know more about maps; he certainly can't know less than I do. I would suggest bringing this to COM:AN/U or even asking at COM:VP rather than possibly getting yourself in any trouble by going back and forth with the other editor. Also, if you know any editors and/or admins you've seen work with maps you could bring this to them. I'm sorry I can't be more help, but unfortunately I'm also busy with several sockmaster issues. INeverCry 09:03, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Right or wrong doesn't matter when multiple reverts are taking place, as in this case. I saw that things had calmed down, so I protected the file temporarily rather than blocking anyone. Please lets get this figured out without any more reverting by anyone. The advice on the talkpage of the image on uploading the other version as an alternate doesn't sound like a bad idea. INeverCry 12:16, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Seems same

Something about this upload [13] feels like I've seen this user before. Maybe the NaN-NaN-NaN style... who knows. What you think? Ellin Beltz (talk) 20:04, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

And this one... how/why would they be taking images of check user pages as one of their two first uploads? So confusing! Ellin Beltz (talk) 20:24, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
The first one does look suspicious. I'll put it on my watchlist. Sometimes you have to watch accounts for a bit to see if they do something that IDs them or if they become disruptive. The other one was uploaded by a trusted pt.wiki user with 17k edits there [14] so should be fine. 21:48, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
As always, thank you!! Ellin Beltz (talk) 06:54, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Licence was fixed

I fixed the licence of the image File:Caniche Nain.jpg that you deleted a little earlier. It was a derivative image, which is allowable under the original licence, of File:Silver Miniature Poodle stacked.jpg that was incorrectly tagged for deletion by User:1989. This is not the first image I have seen him tag instead of spending a few seconds to try and find a solution but that appears to be his way; drive by tagging without any investigation. The so called copyright image he claimed it was from was uploaded there several years after the commons upload of the original and that image was reviewed here properly at the upload time even though the licence has been changed on Flickr. I provided all the details from the original upload so was very surprised you would delete the image upon your review. Do I really have to go through an undeletion request when all the necessary info was already available on the file page? Ww2censor (talk) 23:58, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Sorry for the mix-up. Sometimes I do these a bit quick when I see a familiar name as the nominator. I've restored the image and removed the speedy tag. INeverCry 01:20, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, I assumed this was an error as I was sure I had done everything right. Cheers Ww2censor (talk) 09:45, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

You bet that's him! All the way down to Rue McClanahan and some others the socks are involved with. Here are links to some of his more recent en:WP incarnations:

  • WP sock Note obsession with Caren Marsh Doll-Madie Norman's in there too.
  • Miss Phyl Another sock at en:WP

Thanks. Josh Rumage is now globally locked along with the sock I found yesterday. I've left a message on en.wiki for Materialscientist. INeverCry 20:32, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Would you please explain, why you deleted the files by Heilbronn-7 again, after I restored them? Their source and license seem convincing to me, as I stated in the log. --h-stt !? 12:54, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

@H-stt: Why that drama about sock uploads? Messina is not trusted (Socks are generally not trusted), therefore we don't know if the photos in question are really so old. And Messina should be globally locked for continuous disruption. I suggest that COM:UDEL should be used for further undelete requests related to Messina sock uplaods. And i don't file comfortable when Commons Admins tolerating sockpuppetry. Best --Steinsplitter (talk) 13:14, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
The given source is credible. The images are consistent with this source and their age is consistent with the license. As you, Steinsplitter, know, there is currently a program to "rehabilitate" Messina at deWP and those images are intended for articles he writes under this program. I'm not part of your war of attrition with Messina, I'm not part of the program at deWP either. I just got in between when I noticed those valid images were deleted without intrinsic reasons. All right now, how can we end this issue without further hassle? Please make a proposal. --h-stt !? 13:49, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Culpa levis by dewiki arbcom, they should prohibit messina to sock here (and allow Messina to upload files on dewiki, then (if needed) a trusted user (COM:LR for example) can review it and transfair it to commons). Needless to say that socks are generally not trusted, therefore i support a deletion in dubio. Messina has up to 200 socks on commons, and there was never a attempt from Messinas side to solve this issue. Sigh --Steinsplitter (talk) 15:51, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
I know, and his is a tragic case. Highly motivated, but so full of himself, that he can't bother to understand the rules and/or play by them. Anyway: I will pull back now and have given him your advise above. Maybe he will follow it, maybe not. Thanks for dealing with the issue. rgds --h-stt !? 16:02, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
First of all Messina should never have been blocked on Commons from the very beginning. It is a pity that some Commons users did mess into German WP community issues with all its (the DE:WP) harassment, hounding, and stalking. And that was what caused Messina using sock puppets, several hundreds of them in German Wikipedia at some time. And then this was copied to the Commons, including the initial blocking by an admin who in some way already was involved in the conflict in the German Wikipedia. (Yes, User:Steinsplitter, dein Anteil an dieser Affäre ist eine Glanzleistung.) And we all know that this mess in the German WP is very also a case of discrimination of a user by religious, social, and other reasons.
Nevertheless deletions should ever be handled from case to case, even if there are reasons for which a user's reputation is damaged (whysoever). In the case of those files User:H-stt had restored and which you deleted again a simple research would have showed that the architect in question, de:Paul Ludwig Joost, died in 1934, so his work is in the PD since 2005. Also, the images have been scanned out of a publication published long before 1923, in 1910. For example, File:Paul Ludwig Troost - Haus Chillingworth in Nürnberg, Herrenzimmer (aus "Die Kunst. Monatshefte für freie und angewandte Kunst", XIII. Jahrgang, Bd. 22, 1910).jpg (note that the file name includes both DOB and DOD of Joost as well as the year of first publication of the image!), appeared possibly on page 232 or 233 of the journal; possibly because I cannot look into the file and do not know which images --Matthiasb (talk) 19:12, 5 February 2015 (UTC)Messina had chosen.
Those images perfectly fit into the Commons, and apparantly the only reason why they have been deleted is to obstruct the resocialization process in the German WP. I therefore request you to undelete those files very soon. I also call on you not to involve yourself anymore into a German Wikipedia community conflict by taking one side. Regards --Matthiasb (talk) 18:49, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
"Those images perfectly fitted into the Commons". No, they didn't. They fitted perfectly if the photographer was known and PD-old-70. --2A02:810D:1080:23D8:1CEC:F049:3B2B:95BF 18:05, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Yes they fit, since they have been published before 1923 and was published anonymous, so Template:PD-anon-1923 applies; however it seems possible that either Joost himself or the author of the article in the journal, Georg Jakob Wolf took the photographs. Wolf died in 1936. --Matthiasb (talk) 19:12, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Glitch

Hi, this deleted file behaves in a way I do not understand. You deleted it yesterday, but it caused a glitch in my Flickrstream searching programme. Any idea why this deleted object is unusual? I have trapped this behaviour, but it would be sensible to know what is behind it. Thanks -- (talk) 10:34, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Well, it looks to have been a mistaken deletion on my part, though I don't know how unusual that really is. I've restored it. INeverCry 21:38, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Can you look at this file and see if you think my {{PD-Text}} is correct? There's some creativity to the placing of the different language names, so I'm not quite sure if I was wrong to delete it the first time or not. INeverCry 21:43, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
I think PD-Text is perfectly fine as a choice. If I was really being pedantic, I could argue that the fact the words are arranged in a graphic and are coloured, crosses the boundary into creativity. Were I arguing the other case, I would point out that this would be true if arranged "by hand", but these types of graphics are generated by a programme, so there is no human artistic creativity involved. So, on balance this is well below the threshold...
Not sure your deletion/undeletion accounts for the oddities of how this file glitches, but I'm not going to dwell on it unless it becomes a pattern worth worrying over. -- (talk) 01:50, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Please allow The Photographer to upload L&E videos to Commons

Hi user:INeverCry, my name is María, I am community liaison for Learning & Evaluation team at Wikimedia Foundation. I write to you to request that you allow user:The Photographer to upload the videos we produce via Google Hangouts and publish on our Youtube channel under CC license. I can't exactly tell you that because I am not an admin, maybe INeverCry could better explain, since he deleted it in the first place. What I would advise to MCruz (WMF) & The Photographer that if your showing presentations during hangouts, please don't use images from other sources without permission, and use images here on Commons, and show credit to the images on the presentation, the link, and the known free license. 1989 11:19, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
Comment In the video linked above, at :40 for instance there's a full screenshot of the presenter's desktop wallpaper, with no indication of author or license of the image. In general I would suggest these video's be gone through before upload to make sure that all images, drawings, screenshots, etc, are definitely under free licenses; I would also suggest labeling them with the applicable free license in the video, or giving credits at the end of the video along with license info. There are several ways to indicate licensing/attribution. INeverCry 20:20, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

hi, Could you see and judge if this is justified (#1). The German name is days away, with a complement of the English name: File:Liebau2009-Bahnhof.JPG for File:Lubawka - dworzec (Liebau - Bahnhof).jpg
the word "Liebau2009-Bahnhof" exists in no language more, Liebau - Bahnhof yes.
Your opinion?--Medium69 You wanted talk to me? 13:53, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

I agree with Steinsplitter's removal of the filemover right. The name in this case wasn't completely meaningless, otherwise you wouldn't have kept most of it in tact in parentheses as you did. I would also advise against making personal attacks. Going forward I would suggest sticking closely to renaming guidelines, making solid rename requests, and perhaps requesting the filemover right back in a month or two. One thing you've got to know is that renames that make changes in the original language of the file name are a bad idea. It would be better, in a case where you think a file name in another language needs correcting, to check with an admin or filemover who speaks that language, and see if they can suggest/do a rename in the original language. (talk page stalker) Not this user but another was changing names of files in a historic district (which by convention we go 123 Mainstreet, Townname, ST) for file names to something like "Red Victorian Storefront with Brown Dog in Doorway". The claim was that the street addresses were not descriptive enough! It took a while to explain to this gentleman that the entire page on the historic district goes by street addresses, there's no reason to change anything, and after much back and forth he went back to renaming towns near where he was from and not trying to do massive changes thousands of miles from home and in a language not his own. I found it annoying that someone would just take it upon themselves to rename my photos without telling me... and most especially since a read of my "user contributions" would show I'm still active. If you check with the uploader, there may be a serious reason for the file name as it is; which just by making assumptions you won't know correctly. Cheers Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:12, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
Bah! That wasn't me was it? I recall requesting renames in that area but I'm sure we speak the same lingua. :P Green Giant (talk) 16:40, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
I honestly don't remember your name attached to it at all. Following your link and looking at history, I thought it was a different user who isn't a native English speaker who started it. Way too long ago whoever it was, no worries. Ellin Beltz (talk) 00:44, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Birbal Jha, again

I've just tagged File:Birbal Jha.JPG as needing permissions but I'm unsure whether that was the correct approach. The photo or a derivative of it appears to be used at, for example, his linkedin profile. Would that amount to a de facto copyyvio, given there is no useful EXIF and no way to link the uploader's name to the subject? - Sitush (talk) 16:22, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Considering this was uploaded in 2011, and there's nothing online that's bigger or older, the permission tag looks ok. INeverCry 20:39, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Legal rumbling

I've deleted that file, and it looks like someone else has deleted their last surviving upload. I've warned them about the legal threats. INeverCry 01:47, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Just wondering aloud - should these accounts be locked at Meta just to make a point? --Herby talk thyme 16:32, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
I'm not sure if it would make a point. Do you think these are created by a spam service via a bot program? it seems like this is the case. I wonder if anyone looks back at or cares about these accounts. Every account uses the same pattern of uploading 2 generic files and then adding a spam description to each with links. I check all new locally created accounts each day, so they'll all be found and blocked. I can't remember seeing any that weren't created locally. Soon I may have CU again, so I can check the ones I find and pick off a few sleepers. I'll have to see what, if any, collateral I see to determine if any kind of rangeblock/s is/are viable. INeverCry 21:11, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Not had time to look that hard at it. CU would reveal quite a bit more if the IP was thoroughly investigated though. I guess locking would send a message and prevent them using minor wikis. --Herby talk thyme 08:46, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I just have Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/BBBMoving and the other accts I've seen here to go on at the moment. These accts register on Commons and sometimes on Meta, but nothing on any wiki that I've seen, and no actual edits on Meta. I wonder if there's any acct creation from the involved range/s on en.wiki, or anywhere else, and any spam blocks? Locking wouldn't hurt of course, but I don't think anything that fails to stop future acct creation will have any affect. It's a relatively sophisticated spam technique, avoiding filters by uploading an image first and adding the links after. Somewhat interesting. If I can check these and see about possible global rangeblocks, we might have a solution. If they're using someone who has numerous spammy ranges available, then it's back to the hunt. INeverCry 09:09, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
In fairness Commons has been used as a "back door" for promotional activity since Noah was a lad... Well at least since I started - it is not patrolled in the same way as many other wiki and even if it is most folk are looking for copyvios not spam - I had to be a little creative about "out of scope" in the early days! --Herby talk thyme 09:33, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Blanking edit summary in logs

Hi,

I note that recently a few of your edit comments in deletion logs were blanked; this caused a script of mine to fall over otherwise I would not have noticed. I presume there is good reason for it, but I wonder if it is possible to do something other than blanking log edit comments, even if only to replace them with the name of the person blanking the comment, such as to say this was a requested oversight action? I feel that just unexplained blanking is enough for others to track these in the public record, rather than a modicum of sensible transparency which would actually reduce attention from the curious.

Feel free to email if I am accidentally touching on a sensitive area. Thanks -- (talk) 12:59, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

I did recently do some deletions of some attack images that were then oversighted. INeverCry 20:28, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Contributer

Hi

I mentioned you deleted https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cenith_Air_Logo.png and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CAIND-02.png this two files. Could you give me a reason why you delete it? Because I uploaded them and it from me to my company. Thx

Best Cenith Air Inc.

The logo should be ok, so I've restored that, but the other one will require that you send a permission email to OTRS to confirm that you're the Company's representitive/copyright holder and that it's ok to host the image here. INeverCry 20:26, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

I was just rescuing File:Pml carnegie.png but before I could save the chnages you deleted it. Can you restore it? It's a PD-1923 postcard. Ww2censor (talk) 00:22, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Question

Would you please take a look at these uploads? There are a lot of super hero images and photos of toys there which I think are copyrighted. The user got the photos from Flickr and the problem would be the toys and not the Flickr license. Thanks! We hope (talk) 02:19, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Those look to be from the Super Sentai Series which is from Japan. According to COM:TOYS, Japan views toys as utilitarian objects, and hence not copyrighted. The rest are cosplay, which I'm not at all up on, but of which we have a ton here, so I'm not quite sure on the Power Rangers stuff. Perhaps @Stefan4: might be the one to take a look at this person's uploads if he has time. INeverCry 06:14, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! We hope (talk) 13:52, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Utilitarian objects are ineligible for copyright in Japan. As toys often tend to be regarded as 'utilitarian' in Japan, the files might be fine in Japan. However, the uploader also needs to provide a copyright tag explaining the copyright status in the United States. "PD-ineligible-Japan" does not automatically result in "PD-ineligible-United States", as seen here. --Stefan4 (talk) 14:50, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

You may want to watch what happens there, smells socky. Chace, Fairyspit or one of those two that weren't Fairyspit according to en wiki (one of them blocked by you as sock).--Denniss (talk) 15:22, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Meta

So - after some persuasion - the bot has acknowledged my existence and is now reporting. There is nothing to suggest any great activity however at a quick look through there is some evidence of collusion/planning in that a number of domains resolve to the same IPs. I'd take a stab at the fact that if CU were run on the users placing those links it might be interesting and might even mean that a hosting IP had been used to create the accounts. Worth keeping an eye on I think. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 13:26, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

I'll be keeping an eye on these. So far essays, movers, flowers, and who knows what else. Luckily I should be able to take a closer look into these tomorrow or the next day at the latest. INeverCry 23:04, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Achoo!

Hiya INC: I caught a cold filling sandbags in the flood! I'll be on/off when my head is clear enough to think. I noticed that we're way behind on some "tough calls" in DNs from early January. I tried my hand a a few of them in the last week. Not feeling very Boolean this week, I stopped short of those which need an ACME-Model #A27 Super-Duper Random Coinflipper or a More Experienced Admin! Sorry to disturb your catnap! Ellin Beltz (talk) 08:10, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

Those can be a real bitch. In a lot of them, you know someone's not going to be satisfied regardless of how you close it. I closed a few and deleted a day's entry a few days ago though. I've been on the CU trail all day today - I had to catch up on some things. I'll see about closing a few old DRs when I get a chance. As for you, take care of yourself first and foremost - the DRs will take care of themselves; they always do.
They can be most difficult... I worked through some tough multiple nominations today before the lure of the sun drags me to a sunny window for a long nap. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 23:20, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

Deletion not understood

I don't quite understand the deletion of my page when I see a very similar one being acceptable ( See form user " Stallinga"). Can you explain to me the differences or are you just unfairly acting ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Art of Lamp (talk • contribs) 13:56, February 15, 2015‎ (UTC)

Commons isn't here for anyone to advertise or promote a company or person. I delete all such pages per COM:ADVERT or remove promotional material. As for User:Stallinga, I've removed the material that was promotional in tone. One big difference in your case is that your account matches the name of your website, and contained a link to that website in the version I deleted. The 2nd version, deleted by a another admin, was like User:Stallinga before I removed the promotional paragraph. INeverCry 22:50, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the congrats and thanks to everyone for the support. I'll do my best to show I deserve it going forward. As for the CU/R date, I had my time settings in preferences set to America/Los Angeles, the closest timezone to me. When I looked at my CU/R, the start time was:

16:19, January 31, 2015‎ INeverCry (talk | contribs | block)‎ . . (1,801 bytes) (+1,801)‎ . . (good luck ;)

It was at night on January 31 where I am, so I put February 14 as an end date automatically. It's a strange thing really: for me, 14 and a half days have literally passed since I posted my CU/R. It's the same thing with DRs; When I start my closes it's 4:00 in the afternoon here and 7:00 on the East Coast. Anyways, I've now set my clock to user wiki default (UTC), so I'm on the wiki's time from now on, rather than the wiki being on my time as it were. My apologies for any confusion. Quote: It's not a personnal work but a pic from a copyrighted website. --Supertoff

This is untrue. Meanwhile a couple of years ago, I asked several hockey clubs by email, where Robert Müller played, if they can make a photo available. The ice hockey team Kölner Haie gave that photo to me via email for using it here as specified. By myself, I have edited the image and eliminated noise. It is NOT from a website. C-8 (talk) 10:06, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

Whether it's from the team's website or a private email to you doesn't make any difference really. The issue is that we don't have proof that the image was released by the team/copyright holder under a free license. See OTRS for instructions on providing proof of permission.
