Deletion requests/Image:Flag of Nicaragua.svg

Hi. You closed this as keep but what actually happened was keep but revert to the version with a free source. Also included in the request was Image:Coat of arms of Nicaragua.svg which displays only the CoA which was reverted in the flag hence for consistency this image should be deleted. /Lokal_Profil 12:25, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for being sketchy before. What I meant was that the deletion request included two images Image:Flag of Nicaragua.svg and Image:Coat of arms of Nicaragua.svg. The keep decision was made after Zscout370 reverted (and deleted) the problematic version of Flag of Nicaragua.svg. The Coat of arms which he reverted from the flag is exactly the one in Image:Coat of arms of Nicaragua.svg so that image should also be deleted. Cheers Lokal_Profil 18:18, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The point was that that version of the coat of arms was deleted (from the flag) because it came from a unfree source. So the image depicting the CoA is also unfree. /Lokal_Profil 23:13, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey giggy, I saw your note. Let me see if I can help clarify what Lokal is talking about. Before you closed the request, this revision was deleted (by me) because it was made using a non-free source. It may or may not have been considered a derivative, but since it was an older version, I figured it would be best to delete it just to be on the safe side. Lokal has pointed out that Image:Coat of arms of Nicaragua.svg is exactly the same as the COA part that was used in the flag I deleted. It should be deleted for consistency. However, the difference is this one is used (a lot), so it's not as easy as a decision. We may need another DR to see if there's a consensus to delete on the grounds of being a non-free derivative (which the last one was solved before we reached it, IMO.) →Rocket°°° 13:39, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Screw that. I stopped being lazy and just made a new one from the kept flag. I deleted the old version so everything should be cool now. Cheers, →Rocket°°° 13:53, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, Lokal had the same idea. Oh well. :) →Rocket°°° 13:56, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Regione-Emilia-Romagna-Stemma.svg

Hello,

your language was not spoken to me when I was a baby; I hope you can understand this message.

On December 8 you deleted an image called Image:Regione-Emilia-Romagna-Stemma.svg and commented "fair use". I suppose that means that Italian coats of arms are not free to publish. Still there are images of the coats of arms of many Italian regions under Category:Coats_of_arms_of_regions_of_Italy, and many of them use SVG. Is there something special about the Emilia-Romagna region (which just has a low-resolution PNG image, marked as PD-self)?

I have an SVG version of this coat of arms I created myself; may I upload it, or is there a copyright problem?

Thank you – Umberto 15:57, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply. I know of no other such cases; I only noticed this one because I wondered why such a simply-shaped coat of arms should not have an SVG image. – Umberto 19:01, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nyo’s uploads

You removed my missing source templates from a lot of images whenever no proper source was added since I placed them there. We still have no proper source (book, archive website, etc), no author (name + year of death) and not even a valid year of publication. The “source” website copied these images from other sources, they are obviously not the copyright holder. Regarding the time of creation (from 1932 until beginning of 1940s) and the average lifespan most of these files are most likely still protected by copyright for decades (“copyright term of life of the author plus 70 years.”) Please establish valid sources, name all these German and foreign press photographers and then remove these warnings. Otherwise these files should be deleted. --Polarlys 09:47, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

Incompetent admins are deleting pictures such as this. I have permission to publish them and roughly a week ago I asked the association to send a proper email to OTRS. It should be already arrived by now.

In September 2007 I also sent permission for pictures regarding YSEE ceremonies. Nobody has tagged them yet.

Can you search for the permissions in the OTRS archive?

Hi Giggy, could you delete Image:437040825 d2f10c4bb9.jpg for me? I am not sure how to tag image for speedy deletion here, or if "uploader's request" is a speedy criterion. Some images i uploaded a while ago appear to have been mistagged on flickr and have been deleted there, so the Creative Commons license is now unfit. Request

I don't know a lot about the uploading or licensing of pictures on Wikipedia/Wikipedia Commons, so I was wondering whether you could look at these two pictures of Elaine Paigeremoved image links so the bot upload can go through. giggy (:O) 01:02, 12 April 2008 (UTC) and see whether they are suitable to upload, in order to use them in the Elaine Paige articles on Wikipedia. Sorry to bother you again, but would it be possible to crop the image so it has mostly Elaine Paige in the picture, I'm contemplating nominating the English article to become featured, and I know the reviewers can be fussy sometimes. Hi Giggy, thanks for approving me for Flickr reviewer status. Ubisoft template

Dear Giggy; I really can't understand your decision to keep Template:Attribution-Ubisoft after the arguments given in Commons:Deletion requests/Template:Attribution-Ubisoft 2. You wrote "There was a full debate last time, there have been German speakers here who have backed up the comments of the OTRS ticket" - well, I am a native German speaker, too (from Switzerland), and as far as I see, all or most of the native German speakers participating in the recent discussion started by rtc voted for deletion (rtc himself of course, Chaddy, Jodo, and me) - those who can read the German-language correspondence with the Ubisoft employee. I'm not eagerly advocating deletion of the template and the screenshots using it, but it is a fact that User:Avatar/Ubisoft/OTRS thread contains no explicitly given free licence by Ubisoft whatsoever, only slightly nebulous statements. It certainly is no licence to use the screenshots "for any purpose"; the final part of the correspondence where "Ubisoft" agrees using the wording "darauf können wir uns in jedem Fall einigen" ("on this we can agree in any case") is dealing only with using screenshots for Wikipedia. Although it will be quite time-consuming, I would offer to translate User:Avatar/Ubisoft/OTRS thread into English if there's any chance that this will help to understand the issue better. My concern is that someday someone starts using these screenshots really "for any purpose", will be sued by Ubisoft and then says "Wikimedia Commons claimed that Ubisoft allowed this", the thing therefore backfiring at us. And as far as I know, Commons doesn't accept screenshots under a non-free licence, and only a non-free licence is what the Ubisoft person, in my opinion as a reader of the quoted German statements, had in mind. Still, this publicly readable "OTRS thread" is shortened and I have no access to the full version, therefore I hope nothing important is missing from it. Gestumblindi 00:12, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I translated it now. I noticed that there was already an extremely poor machine translation (Google Translate) at User talk:Avatar/Ubisoft/OTRS thread and I posted my new translation as a replacement there. I think that a basic misunderstanding took place with the second reply from Ubisoft ("It's only about how it is provided directly at Wikipedia."); the subsequent answer to Ubisoft obviously didn't change this Ubisoft person's perception that the whole licence issue is only about using images at Wikipedia. Gestumblindi 23:45, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply on my discussion page (I reply here and not there as I personally would prefer as it seems to be your preferred procedure to reply on the dialogue partner's discussion page); certainly I'm willing to wait a while and see what kind of confirmation or non-confirmation Avatar can get from Ubisoft before I maybe start a new deletion debate for the template (I'm not looking forward to it with pleasant anticipation - it will not be fun to be the one starting a third deletion request and receiving "but we have discussed this two times already and thouroughly" complaints etc.; however, I believe that previous discussion was stunted by lack of understanding of what Ubisoft wrote by non-German speakers.) Flickr review

There needs to be some tag or other that removes the image from the flickr images sans source and then checks back after the no source timelimit is up to see if there's still an image there. 99% of the time, the users who upload images without information don't ever come back, or just ignore the messages left to them, and I see nothing of the image again until it shows up in the deletion log. Or at least there needs to be some subcategory to put images which have been looked at by reviewers but no source can be found for. I'll quit ranting now. -mattbuck (Talk) 23:58, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear user, I noticed that you use the includePage function in your monobook.js page.

This function is now obsolete, as the importScript function was introduced with rev:35064 to the MediaWiki Javascript core library wikibits.js. It also keeps track of already imported files.

Congratulations!

The other 'crats have started eating it to celebrate the new slave dear colleague.

Hello giggy,

Congratulations for a successful and very consensual RfB! You have been granted bureaucrat tools. Thank you for stepping up to help, and we're here to help if you have any questions. I have updated some administrator listings with your new status, but I'd like to ask you to confirm them, especially Commons:List of administrators by adminship status in other Wikimedia projects (I don't think you're in that one, but I don't know if you have rights elsewhere :)).

And darn you Herby! :) Cheers, Patrícia msg 10:24, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well I could lie and say I have spies everywhere which tell me everything that is going on all Wikimedia projects. Actually, I was just doing my daily visit to commons, I knew you were active and a sysop here, so just decided to take a glance and see what you do here - it just so happened you had just been made a bureaucrat at that moment. :) Camaron | Chris (talk) 11:30, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

you deleted the above image which was in use on the English Wikipedia. What was the evidence that this was in fact a copyright violation? --Simonxag 11:54, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was uploaded by RogerRanger (talk · contribs), see Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#User_uploading_likely_copyright_material. Strong suspicion of numerous copyvios, suggested OTRS to prove us wrong. giggy (:O) 00:01, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiShroom.png

You missed deleting Image:WikiShroom2.png and Image:WikiShroom3.png when you deleted Image:WikiShroom.png. If the latter is really not sufficiently different (which IMO it was, but whatever), the former are not either. Anomie 11:26, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, gone. My mistake for not noticing the different file extensions. Sorry they had to go - it sucks, I know, but them's the copyrights. giggy (:O) 11:31, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Che-airport-14mar65.jpg

Hi Giggy. You deleted here an image that aparently was in the public domain, but there is no comment about the motives. Can you tell me? Regards, --Roblespepe 18:56, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I restored it as the image falls under the public domain licensing for Cuba. Feel free to delete if I epically fail. Monobi (talk) 19:47, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Crap. Brain froze + clicked wrong button. Sincere apologies, and thanks Monobi. giggy (:O) 23:26, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please Giggy, ¿can you answer me?. The image was restored, but the decision to delete it stills, and the discusion is closed. ¿Can you explain me what is the situation there, and what is going to happen with the image? I mentioned in the discusion page what is the correct template to applay to the image. Regards,--Roblespepe 13:46, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Giggy has answered above, deleting the image was a mistake. I have removed the deletion request from the image. Regards, Finn Rindahl 14:07, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hoi. Please inform the wikis using images *before* you delete them! We used this one on the main page and had an imagemap error on our main page out of a sudden. This is not acceptable. Please don't forget that Commons is also serving the Wikimedia projects and not only a wiki just for itself! You can not just go around and delete duplicates without notifying people using that stuff or fixing the links by yourself. It's your task as administrator to care about the usage of an image before you delete it. --Thogo (Disk.) 10:59, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Crap. CommonsDelinker failed and I didn't double check it properly. I'm really sorry, it won't happen again. giggy (:O) 11:45, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. Btw., now that there are image redirects possible, why not just changing the duplicate into a redirect instead of deleting? --Thogo (Disk.) 13:59, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh... I wasn't aware of image redirects. Makes me look even sillier. I'll remember that. Sorry again, giggy (:O) 23:22, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please, rename my account

Hi!

Please, rename my account Alessandro ==> Don Alessandro. Alessandro 19:51, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

Commons probably doesn't have this, but I'd like your help all the same. I want to get more involved in Commons and I sort of feel like I've been dropped in the middle of a foreign city with no map. So yea, let me know. :) LaraLove 18:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, there isn't really such a program, but there's plenty of helpful people around... I'm happy to answer any of your questions. I suppose I can't really suggest much unless I know what specifically you want to get involved in, but Commons:Welcome and Commons:Community Portal make good starting points. giggy (:O) 01:06, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:

Yes my pl.wiki *is* *Lothar*. Any problem here ?Lothar25 00:18, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if it wasn't clear. To prevent identity theft, we need you to give a link pointing to your Commons account from your PlWP account. So a diff saying "I'm Lothar25 on Commons" made while logged in as Sir Lothar on PlWP is needed. Thanks, giggy (:O) 00:19, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed from Lothar to Sir Lothar on projects to have a global account. I have about 5k+ edits on pl.wiki. No identity theft her;) Greets Lothar25 00:23, 31 May 2008 (UTC) Edit: [5] my edits on pl.wiki Lothar25 00:27, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"I'm Lothar25 on Commons" it should be on my user page, my discussion page on pl.wiki? Where do u want'at ?
Anywhere is fine, you just need to be logged in. giggy (:O) 00:39, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My Request for Adminship

Dear Giggy,

Thank you for voting in my request for adminship, which passed with 25 support, 4 oppose, and 3 neutral. I'm honoured that the community have granted me the administrative tools. If their is anything, then do not hesitate to ask me.

Thank you for the nomination Rocket, it wouldn't have been possible otherwise. Kanonkas(talk)

Thank you very much Giggy, first supporter :) I'll try to make you happy. --Kanonkas(talk) 17:16, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

US license plates

I agree, if US law does not accept copyleft images of US license plates - all the images showing single plates should be deleted. I am afraid, however, you did not peruse this: Image:Amerykanskie.tablice.rejestracyjne.JPG was not a view of US plate pattern, it is a picture of a wall in a workshop with many American license plates, without graphic details.
Regards Julo 14:13, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I did peruse that image, in my opinion it still fell under the scope of deletion. If you disagree you're welcome to restore it. giggy (:O) 23:26, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you mind this picture should deleted, you should remove many other pictures, where you can see US plates, for instance

too. It would be rather irrational point of view. Image:Amerykanskie.tablice.rejestracyjne.JPG restored, because subject of this picture is not the detailed pattern of any US plate, but general view. Regards Julo 12:53, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
