Patsaat Suomessa[edit]

Hei!

Aluksi kiitos joistain hienoista Turku-kuvista, joita olet lisännyt. Sitten otsikon mukaiseen asiaan: Valokuvat Suomessa sijaitsevista patsaista eivät ikävä kyllä kelpaa Commonsiin. Asiasta tarkemmin sivulla Commons:Freedom of panorama#Finland. Kuvat voi siirtää suomenkieliseen Wikipediaan, jos niitä käytetään taiteilijasta, patsaasta tms. kertovan artikkelin yhteydessä. Samulili 14:52, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Samulili 14:33, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Terve!

Hei! Tein tuohon kuvaan perspektiivikorjausta. Toivottavasti voit kelpuuttaa lopputuloksen. Samulili (talk) 13:14, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Zache!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hello, what process did you use to convert this image to SVG? Whatabout the PNG version? --Hydrox (talk) 17:00, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

First i upscaled the original image to 7500x5000 resolution and converted it to four color and saved it to png with Gimp. This was mostly for getting rid of jpeg artifacts. Then i traced the result with Inkscape (Trace bitmap -tool). Inkscape's trace bitmap is basically GUI for program named Potrace so it can be done from commandline if Inkscape uses too much memory. Png version is made with same method and it is lower resolution than 7500x5000 because Commons didn't handle high resolution png-files. --Zache (talk) 18:24, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, just curious. It works quite well, although technically this is not really the best possible solution. One would require the original lossless JPEG source for a "true" PNG conversion. Now it is basically just a processed version of the JPEG. The 4-color conversion has caused noticeable loss of sharpness, for example (compare 1 & 2 in side-by-side browser tabs) --Hydrox (talk) 22:23, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to licensing
Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.

File:FlaggedRevs-articlehistory-fi.png seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file.

If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.

The reason given by the user who added this tag is: You are not the author by taking a screenshot. Wrong license/copyright tag. It is probably . More or less simple lists.

Saibo (Δ) 03:16, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PD-ineligible is even more wrong than that what i used because Wikipedia is not pd. (wikipedia is crosslicenced CC & GFDL) but feel free to fix licence texts. I dont really care too much about it when picture is screenshot from wikipedia user interface itself. Another reason is that i don't really have clue what there should be in author field (Creative Commons part is clear case) if one is using content from other wikimedia projects. (Long list of contributors of wikipedia including software maybe... ) --Zache (talk) 03:33, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia's texts are under CC-by-sa3.0 and GFDL - but not the interface. That could be GPL (the license of MediaWiki) - so if you think it could be copyright eligible then something of those software licenses. Well, and the WIkiball is claimed to be copyrighted by Wikimedia WikimediaCopyrightWarning. We also do have Wikimedia project screenshot which tries to get it right. ;) Best is: try to include as few stuff as possible on screenshots. That is also better for the help page where it is included. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 03:47, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, actually I did not send an permission email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. When I send it, can the deletion be undone? --BaratK (talk) 22:42, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't clear enough in the deletion page. The person who should send the email is the copyright holder aka (b.kurbanjan@yahoo.com) and based on his email he already sended the OTRS-permit. Not sure what happened to it. I think that you can ask from somebody what is status of the permit and if it is OK you can upload the picture. Btw, stop sock puppeting please. It makes extremely hard to follow discussions and people will make the mistakes like i did in the deletion page. (i answered to you like i thinked that you were b.kurbanhan) --Zache (talk) 09:53, 4 October 2012 (UTC) [reply]
Sorry for writing so late. My former account BaratK was blocked from editing. Actually I am not (b.kurbanjan@yahoo.com). I send an email to the copyright holder (he even do not set any copyright at all) to ask him what happed with his OTRS permission. It would be nice if you can keep in contact with him, because the User Mendsetting really put an racist eye on this picture intending to delete this picture again and again.

Ystävällisin terveisin--Paasikivi (talk) 16:13, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

--Zache (talk) 08:22, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Miksi nämä molemmat toistuvat eri kuvissa, esim. File:Tampereen Palatsinraitinsilta ja Kotkankallio.jpg? MKFI (talk) 06:20, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Käytin niitä noiden id-mallineiden testaamiseen ja kuvausteksti tuli siitä testilinkistä jolla avastin uploadwizardin kampanjan. --Zache (talk) 09:59, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments in Finland[edit]

Hi Zache, I am the coordinator of the international team responsible for the special upload wizards and banners. The request you placed on the notice board I fixed, but I am not happy about this. There are still not working properly, and also with the start of the contest I need to know which campaigns are used to activate them. But first of all, please explain to me what the purpose is of each of these separate campaigns. Romaine (talk) 03:06, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Romaine: : What is broken? --Zache (talk) 03:18, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Please explain first my question: what is the purpose of each of these separate campaigns? Romaine (talk) 03:20, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Basically there is two campaigns which are really in use (Campaign:wlm-fi-rephotography-wikidata and Campaign:wlm-fi-rephotography-url) and the other two (Campaign:wlm-fi-wikidata, Campaign:wlm-fi-url are redundant because it simplified things when we linked always to the rephotography campaigns.
Main campaign what users are using is Campaign:wlm-fi-rephotography-wikidata which will add the wikidata ID of the target object from the upload link in the list. All targets in wikidata based lists are things which have either RKY or suitable kyppi id:s in the wikidata OR they are part of the objects with the RKY or suitable Kyppi id:s in wikidata. The RKY, Kyppi id:s are identifires from the National Board of Antiquities of Finland.
The another campaign Campaign:wlm-fi-rephotography-url is just for the failback in cases if somebody photographs something which aren't in our wikidata based lists but it have RKY or Kyppi ID so they need to give link to it in the campaign upload page and we can parse ID from the link. With separate campaign we also know that it is uploaded using url.
Rephotography thing is that if the picture is rephotography (example )of the older picture then give link to the original picture. --Zache (talk) 03:34, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Romaine: explained. --Zache (talk) 03:38, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the explanation!
To make it simple, these two can thus be deleted? Campaign:wlm-fi-wikidata & Campaign:wlm-fi-url
If someone participates in the WLM contest of Finland who does not speak Finnish, how does the uploader know how to fill in the extra fields?
And also, for the uploader, bot Finnish ans not Finnish speaking participants, it must be clear which upload link to use.
In preparation of WLM in Finland, we already had created some time ago Campaign:wlm-fi + Template:Cultural Heritage Finland. This template has as purpose to identify which monument is on the photo. This campaign is linked from Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2017/Participating countries.
Now I go to bed first, tomorrow I will have a closer look at it and will try to fix the other issues. I did already solved a first big problem: if someone uploads now an image in the contest, it actually is part of the contest. Romaine (talk) 04:33, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Campaign:wlm-fi-wikidata & Campaign:wlm-fi-url can be deleted and I tested the changes you made and now url-parameters are working. About the non finnish speaking participants. In perfect world there would be participation info in swedish (our second official language) and english. In campaigns there should be also translation texts for mediawiki:Mwe-upwiz-campaigns-wlm-fi-wikidata-id, mediawiki:Mwe-upwiz-campaigns-wlm-fi-kyppi-url and mediawiki:Mwe-upwiz-campaigns-wlm-fi-rephotography-source-url with links to the participation info in swedish nd english. However currently there is nothing in swedish or english and it is in our todo lists and in this point of morning i still try to keep focus on technical stuff but if there is nothing at the evening maybe then i will write/translate the guides least for the english. --Zache (talk) 05:25, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If you can translate to English the MediaWiki pages you linked, I will implement it. Romaine (talk) 04:28, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, texts are below. Pitke was trying to add already the link to guide pages in finnish yesterday, but there was update delay between editing the mediawiki pages and actual change at the uploadwizard dialog an we were waiting to see the effects. However here are the texts and link text from Pitke's edit was too long so I edited them shorter now. Anyway feel free to put texts to live :) thanks --Zache (talk) 04:45, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Romaine: If it is possibe would you like to auto add the category:Unchecked images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in Finland to the Campaign:wlm-fi-rephotography-wikidata and Campaign:wlm-fi-rephotography-url. It is hidden tracking category for the checking the new images so that we know which ones we are checked already and which one is in todo list. --Zache (talk) 07:16, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Code issues in User:Zache/common.js[edit]

Hi Zache, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Zache/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new jshint issue — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

Welcome to the Structured Commons focus group![edit]

Hello! Thank you very much for signing up to the community focus group for Structured Commons :-)

How to organize ourselves?

This focus group is new and experimental, and I welcome your tips and thoughts on how we can organize this in the most convenient and productive way. For now, I have posted a few separate topics on the focus group's talk page. Please add your questions there too! If we all add that page to our watchlist, that's probably a good way to stay up to date with current discussions. Steinsplitter has also initiated a brand new IRC channel specifically for Structured Commons: wikimedia-commons-sd (webchat) which we invite you to join. Please let me know if you have other ideas on how to work together.

Current updates

Hello! You are receiving this message because you signed up for the community focus group for Structured Commons :-)

Later this week, a full newsletter will be distributed, but you are the first to receive an update on new requests for feedback.

Three requests for feedback
  1. We received many additions to the spreadsheet that collects important Commons and Wikidata tools. Thank you! Now, you can participate in a survey that helps us understand and prioritize which tools and functionalities are most important for the Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata communities. The survey runs until December 22. Here's some background.
  2. Help the team decide on better names for 'captions' and 'descriptions'. You can provide input until January 3, 2018.
  3. Help collect interesting Commons files, to prepare for the data modelling challenges ahead! Continuous input is welcome there.

Structured Commons - Design feedback request: Multilingual Captions[edit]

Hello! You are receiving this message because you signed up for the the community focus group for Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons.

The Structured Data on Commons team has a new design feedback request up for Multilingual Captions support in the Upload Wizard. Visit the page for more information about the potential designs. Discussion and feedback is welcome there.

On a personal note, you'll see me posting many of these communications going forward for the Structured Data project, as SandraF transitions into working on the GLAM side of things for Structured Data on Commons full time. For the past six months she's been splitting time between the two roles (GLAM and Community Liaison). I'm looking forward to working with you all again. Thank you, happy editing. Botti ja lisenssin tarkistus[edit]

Hei, kun sun botti User:FinnaUploadBot lataa tiedostoja, niin eikö niiden lisenssit pitäisi kuitenkin tarkistuttaa mallineella LicenseReview? Mä olen ymmärtänyt, että sellainen pitäisi laittaa kaikkiin ulkopuolisilta sivuilta ladattuihin kuviin. -kyykaarme (talk) 09:30, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Selvitellään. Olet varmaan oikeassa ainakin yksittäisten kuvien kohdalla, mutta en tiedä miten homman pitäisi toimia jos kuvia on enemmän. --Zache (talk) 07:00, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Minullakin olisi muutamia huomioita bottiin liittyen.
  • Organization-parametriksi organisaatio (esim. Museovirasto tai Helsingin kaupunginmuseo) mutta ei kokoelmaa.
    • Kannattaa käyttää Institution-mallinetta silloin, kun sellainen on.
  • Department-parametriksi tulee sitten kokoelmatiedot. (Ainakin Museovirasto edellyttää niidenkin mainitsemista.)
  • Accession number -parametriksi pitäisi lisätä museon inventaarionumero, ei URL:n loppua.
Edellisten lisäksi tietysti esimerkiksi Depicted place -parametrin voi ottaa suoraan Finnan Aiheen paikka -parametrista.
Esimerkinomaisesti muokkasin parin kuvan tietoja:
––Apalsola tc 14:29, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Vielä lisäys: Permission-parametriksi kopioisin suoraan Finnan Kuvan käyttöoikeus -tekstin kokonaisuudessaan. Näin siksi, että esimerkiksi Museoviraston kuvien osalta Museovirasto määrittelee, mitä tietoja lähteestä (vähintään) on ilmoitettava, kun kuvaa käytetään. ––Apalsola tc 14:32, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
--Zache (talk) 21:17, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This file may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Wikipedia vandalism in Google infobox from flagged revisions stabilized article 25.2.2015.png, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Structured Data - copyright and licensing statements[edit]

I've posted a second round of designs for modeling copyright and licensing in structured data. These redesigns are based off the feedback received in the first round of designs, and the development team is looking for more discussion. These designs are extremely important for the Commons community to review, as they deal with how copyright and licensing is translated from templates into structured form. I look forward to seeing you over there. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 16:25, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Multilingual captions beta testing[edit]

The Structured Data on Commons team has begun beta testing of the first feature, multilingual file captions, and all community members are invited to test it out. Captions is based on designs discussed with the community[3][4] and the team is looking forward to hearing about testing. If all goes well during testing, captions will be turned on for Commons around the second week of January, 2019.

Multilingual captions are plain text fields that provide brief, easily translatable details of a file in a way that is easy to create, edit, and curate. Captions are added during the upload process using the UploadWizard, or they can be added directly on any file page on Commons. Adding captions in multiple languages is a simple process that requires only a few steps.

The details:

  • There is a help page available on how to use multilingual file captions.
  • Testing will take place on Beta Commons. If you don’t yet have an account set up there, you’ll need one.
  • Beta Commons is a testbed, and not configured exactly like the real Commons site, so expect to see some discrepancies with user interface (UI) elements like search.
  • Structured Data introduces the potential for many important page changes to happen at once, which could flood the recent changes list. Because of this, Enhanced Recent Changes is enabled as it currently is at Commons, but with some UI changes.
  • Feedback and commentary on the file caption functionality are welcome and encouraged on the discussion page for this post.
  • Some testing has already taken place and the team are aware of some issues. A list of known issues can be seen below.
  • If you discover a bug/issue that is not covered in the known issues, please file a ticket on Phabricator and tag it with the “Multimedia” tag. Use this link to file a new task already tagged with "Multimedia."

Known issues:

Thanks for uploading File:H. Cegielski self-propelled traction engine (2).webm. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Structured Data - file captions coming this week (January 2019)[edit]

Hi all, following up on last month's announcement...

Multilingual file captions will be released this week, on either Wednesday, 9 November or Thursday, 10 November 2019. Captions are a feature to add short, translatable descriptions to files. Here's some links you might want to look follow before the release, if you haven't already:

  1. Read over the help page for using captions - I wrote the page on mediawiki.org because captions are available for any MediaWiki user, feel free to host/modify a copy of the page here on Commons.
  2. Test out using captions on Beta Commons.
  3. Leave feedback about the test on the captions test talk page, if you have anything you'd like to say prior to release.

Additionally, there will be an IRC office hour on Thursday, 10 January with the Structured Data team to talk about file captions, as well as anything else the community may be interested in. Date/time conversion, as well as a link to join, are on Meta.

Thanks for your time, I look forward to seeing those who can make it to the IRC office hour on Thursday. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:22, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data - development update, March 2019[edit]

This text is also posted on the Structured Data hub talk page. You can reply there with questions, comments, or concerns.

A development update for the current work by the Structured Data on Commons team:

After the release of multilingual file captions, work began on getting depicts and other statements ready for release. These were originally scheduled for release in February and into March, however there are currently two major blockers to finishing this work (T215642, T217157). We will know more next week about when depicts and statements can likely be ready for testing and then release; until then I've tentatively updated the release schedule.

Once the depicts feature is ready for testing, it will take place in two stages on TestCommons. The first is checking the very basics; is the design comfortable, how does the simple workflow of adding/editing/removing statements work, and building up help and process pages from there. The second part is a more detailed test of depicts and other statements, checking the edge-case examples of using the features, bugs that did not come up during simple testing, etc. Additionally we'll be looking with the community for bugs in interaction with bots, gadgets, and other scripts once the features are live on Commons. Please let me know if you're interesting in helping test and fix these bugs if they show up upon release, it is really hard to find them in a test environment or, in some cases, bugs won't show up in a testing environment at all.

One new thing is definitely coming within the next few weeks, pending testing: the ability to search for captions. This is done using the inlabel keyword in search strings, and will be the first step in helping users find content that is specifically structured data. I'll post a notice when that feature is live and ready for use.

Thanks, let me know if you have questions about these plans. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:34, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data - early depicts testing[edit]

The Structured Data on Commons development team has the very basic version of depicts statements available for early testing on Test-Commons. You can add very basic depicts statements to the file page by going into the new “Structured Data” tab located below the "Open in Media Viewer button." You can use the Latest Files link in the left side nav bar to select existing images, or use the UploadWizard to upload new ones to test with (although those images won’t actually show up on the site). The test site is not a fully functional replica of Commons, so there may be some overall problems in using the site, but you should be able to get a general idea of what using the feature is like.

Early next week I will call for broad, community-wide testing of the feature similar to what we did for Captions, with instructions for testing, known bugs, and a dedicated space to discuss the feature as well as a simple help page for using statements. Until then, you're welcome to post on the SDC talk page with what you might find while testing depicts.

Thanks in advance for trying it out, you'll be hearing more from me next week. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:59, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:Lukion taulukot - Archive.org OCR scanned.pdf has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Abilation (talk) 14:33, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hei Zache, Wikimedia commonsiin on ladattu paremmin skannattu Lukion taulukot. --Abilation (talk) 14:41, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pystyn varmaan acrobatilla säätämään noi sivujen järjestyksen kuntoon, mutta menee pari päivää ennen kuin olen hesassa koneen ääressä jossa mulla on acrobat. --Zache (talk) 14:54, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Järjestin sivut alkuperäiseen järjestykseen netissä olevalla ilmaisohjelmalla. Ei ongelmaa enää. Laitoin tuon ”Archive.org OCR scanned” –version pikapoistoon. --Abilation (talk) 18:29, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data - testing qualifiers for depicts[edit]

As you might have seen, testing is underway for adding qualifiers to depicts statements. If you have not left feedback already, the Structured Data on Commons development team is very interested in hearing about your experience using qualifiers on the file page and in the UploadWizard. To get started you can visit Test-Commons and chose a random file to test out, or upload your own file to try out the UploadWizard. Questions, comments, and concerns can be left on the Structured data talk page and the team will address them as best as they can. Thank you for your time. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 19:08, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data on Commons - IRC office hours this week, 18 July[edit]

The Structured Data team is hosting an IRC office hour this week on Thursday, 18 July, from 17:00-18:00 UTC. Joining information as well as date and time conversion is available on Meta. Potential topics for discussion are the testing of "other statements", properties that may need to be created for Commons on Wikidata soon, plans for the rest of SDC development, or whatever you might want to discuss. The development team looks forward to seeing you there. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:51, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data - testing other statements[edit]

You can now test using other statements for structured data on the file page on Test-Commons. Some datatypes are not yet available, such a coordinates, but further support will be extended soon. You can find more information about testing on the SDC talk page. The team looks forward to your feedback. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 16:41, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data - computer-aided tagging[edit]

The development team is starting work on one of the last planned features for SDC v1.0, a lightweight tool to suggest depicts tags for images. I've published a project page for it, please have a look. I plan to share this page with everyone on Commons much more broadly in the coming days. The tool has been carefully designed to try to not increase any workload on Commons volunteers; for starters, it will be opt-in for auto-confirmed users only and will not generate any sort of backlog here on Commons. Additionally, the tool is highly privacy-minded for the contributors and publicly-minded for the third party being used, in this case Google. The implementation and usage notes contain more information about these and other potential concerns as a starting place. It's really important that the tool is implemented properly from the start, so feedback is welcome. Questions, comments, concerns are welcome on the talk page and I will get answers as quickly as possible as things come up. On the talk page you can also sign up to make sure you're a part of the feedback for designs and prototype testing. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 17:57, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User:FinnaUploadBot[edit]

--Zache (talk) 08:13, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Moi, kiitos nopeasta vastauksesta! Tarkoitus olisi lähinnä massaladata kuvia täältä https://sls.finna.fi/?lng=fi , Svenska litteratursällskapetilla on laaja arkisto ja haluaisivat saada sitä Commonsiin. Lina Fredrika (talk) 14:02, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data - computer-aided tagging designs[edit]

I've published a design consultation for the computer-aided tagging tool. Please look over the page and participate on the talk page. If you haven't read over the project page, it might be helpful to do so first. The tool will hopefully be ready by the end of this month (October 2019), so timely feedback is important. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:09, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category discussion warning

Unsorted pictures of Helsinki has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Thank you!

Commons - Media Search[edit]

Greetings,

The Structured Data team is working on an alternative, image-focused prototype for media search on Commons. The prototype uses categories, structured data as well as wikitext from Commons, and Wikidata to find its results. The development team would like your feedback on the prototype, as they are looking to work to further enhance the search experience on Commons. If you have a moment, please look over the project page set up on Commons to find a link to the prototype and leave your feedback on the talk page. Thanks for your time, I'll be posting message similar to this one to other pages on Commons. The team is looking forward to reading what you think. Help with Campaign:wlm-in-wikidata[edit]

Hi, taking inspiration from Campaign:wlm-fi-rephotography-wikidata and Module:Cultural Heritage Finland wikidata id, I have created Campaign:wlm-in-wikidata, WLM India Wikidata ID, and Module:WLM India Wikidata ID. However, the latter is no giving the desired output. Let me first explain the context; in India, we have at least three different monument identifiers (ASI Monument ID (P1371), World Heritage Site ID (P757), and HPIP ID (P5094)), so instead of having three different set of instructions or upload wizards, it was thought it would be best if we do this through Wikidata. If the campaign works fine, participants enter Wikidata ID of the monument in to the wizard or it is prefilled from the list, and it checks which of the above mentioned three properties exist in the respective Wikidata item, and insert that in the file description page - along with the property and its value.

I have created the above module based on the Finnish model, based on the suggestions by Susanna. But it doesn't seem to work fine, please see a test file File:Test_-_to_be_deleted_soon.png using the template, uploaded through the campaign. It would be very helpful if you can help us to get this working. Thank you, KCVelaga (talk · mail) 16:17, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Did you try to do something like this: User:Zache/testing (diff Module:WLM_India_Wikidata_ID)? --Zache (talk) 20:22, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, exactly! Thanks a ton - this is so helpful. We will integrate this with the main campaign Campaign:wlm-in. We have one last issue - we want to the Wikidata ID to be pre-filled into the upload link, from lists such as this. It uses India heritage list row template for the same. We made this edit so that the Wikidata item number is pre-filled, instead of the ASI ID, but the prefilled link is taking the whole Q17986872 instead of just the QID, into the link. For example, in "https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/special:uploadWizard?campaign=wlm-in&id=%5B%5B%3Ad%3AQ17783011%7CQ17783011%5D%5D&descriptionlang=en&description=" the part "id=%5B%5B%3Ad%3AQ17783011%7CQ17783011%5D%5D" should just be having the QID instead of the whole inter-wiki link thing. Please help in fixing in this. If it is resolved, the campaign will be full functional. Also, in the campaign, we want to know if the "Wikidata ID" can be completely hidden for participants i.e. not giving a chance to vandalise the pre-filled text. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 06:24, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@KCVelaga: This should be doing it (diff). However, i don't know why the other {} links are working without cleaning up.--Zache (talk) 06:59, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think that you need to ask @Romaine: or someobody other more skilled with campaigns to know if the id:s can be hidden. --Zache (talk) 07:41, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, the issue is resolved now. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 07:49, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Commons - Media Sarch, new feedback round[edit]

Greetings,

I'm following up on a message from earlier in the year about the prototype development for Special:MediaSearch. Based on community feedback, the Structured Data team has developed some new features for Special:MediaSearch and are seeking another round of comments and discussions about the tool. Commons:Structured_data/Media_search is updated with details about the new features plus some other development information, and feedback is welcome on Commons talk:Structured_data/Media_search. Media Search works in any language, so the team would especially appreciate input around support for languages other than English. I look forward to reading about what you think. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:05, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

FinnaUploadBotin ohjaus[edit]

Nelg (talk, contribs) 17:29, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipe-tan visual novel screencap[edit]

Hello Zache. I was wondering: would you happen to know which visual novel this screencap comes from? According to the description, it appears to be derived from two free licensed images rather than an actual visual novel (or ren'py, eroge, adventure game etc). I'd be interested in reading any feedback you have on the matter, especially in regards to categorization. Thanks. JasonGlennHuntly (talk) 02:23, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Based on googling renpy images I think that they are just created by installing renpy software, taking some example, adding foreground and bacgrounds and text to it, and running the result and taking screencapture. -- Zache (talk) 05:17, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Zache, thanks for your reply. That doesn't appear to be the case here, the file's description states only that it was created using two free-licensed images, and a reverse image search revealed no visual novel which includes this particular screencap.
On a side note, you're obviously aware that all screencaps are, by definition, artificial; ie produced by human agency as opposed to occurring naturally. The term "artifical screencap" is somewhat redundant, as every screencap on this project is artificial. Thanks for your time. JasonGlennHuntly (talk) 08:53, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Finna copyupload-listalle[edit]

-- Zache (talk) 12:53, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Just wanted to inquire about your screenshot here. Could I ask about the technical details regarding it; whether you used Wine, and the version of Ubuntu, perhaps? Thanks! Silikonz (talk) 03:17, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ubuntu was either Ubuntu 16.04 LTS or more likely Ubuntu 16.10. However, I cannot remember if the screenshot was from Mono or Wine. --Zache (talk) 05:28, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zache, I assume that the 4 photographies on the depicted smartphone screen are not originally our own work, right? --Túrelio (talk) 15:38, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am in the process of adding the copyright information, but TLDR: The UI is from Ajapaik Android app (developed by WMFI and Ajapaik) and elements by google should be open licensed.[6]. I can ask VTRS permision if it is needed. Bigger task is also describe also all the photos which are in the screenshots. They are also open licensed but the license can be varied between PD, CC-BY-SA and CC-BY. --Zache (talk) 15:50, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. If you are taking care of that, I don't need to problem-tag them. --Túrelio (talk) 15:56, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can't remember any more why the licence was CC. Probably tt was mistake by me. Question, the very small image thumbnails are from public domain art by age (Images are afaik also uploaded also in commons) so they are OK. However, when I looked the image on laptop, it includes OS X user interface elements (browser tabs and browser url-bar with icons).
