A little friendly advice[edit]

When you are notifying editors of a deletion discussion, use the right template. template:Idw is the template you want for this. Throwing a copyvio note at editors for something that is not yet proven to be such is both insulting and displays a very large failure to assume good faith. I realize that this is not the message you are intending to send, but it was very much how I viewed the message at first. Cheers, Resolute (talk) 04:23, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh, I see now. You nominated for speedy first, then tried to figure out what to do with the images. A little backwards that. Resolute (talk) 04:41, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I did not mean to be rude. This is the standard user notification template for choosing "Report copyright violation" under "Toolbox". Refer to the discussion --Hydrox (talk) 04:53, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw that after. I understand what is happening now. Cheers, Resolute (talk) 05:00, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Htcwildfire.JPG[edit]

Hi. HTC Wildifire uses Android as OS, and Android is licensed with an open source license (compatible or based on GPL). So I think that you're wrong here. Please, change the given reason or remove the template. Thanks. Montgomery (talk) 20:15, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

about three pictures[edit]

I'm not an expert, so I ask you about copyright in these three pictures: Background-ng-1.jpg, Background-ng-2.jpg and Exo-1-render.png. Thanks --DPC (talk) 23:27, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

日本語わかる?[edit]

日本語読めないのになぜ著作権違反名わけ。自分が撮影したがぞうなんだけど?

Sorry, English only. --Hydrox (talk) 15:51, 21 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank[edit]

Thank you for seeing the Assuming Good Faith. You veritable say all what i think and will say. You didn't leave me something to say. And you didn't let someone make this a personal matter. Thank you again. Have a good day.

You're welcome, and thanks for all your contributions. --hydrox (talk) 22:37, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 02:59, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! --hydrox (talk) 04:01, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Images in patents[edit]

Hi Hydrox

This edit is a helpful addition to the Casebook, but it would be even better if there were a link back to the legal basis for the 1989 date. Would you be able to provide one please? That would be great. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 09:56, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See Commons:Deletion requests/Template:PD-US-patent-no notice. The links to the statues are now dead thanks to USPTO, but the old content can be seen with WaybackMachine: [1] [2]. This page is kind of misleading, as it seems to suggest much more liberal idea of copyrights and patents. But if you read it carefully, they actually don't say anything definitive about patents and copyright and suggest you consult a lawyer before using any potentially copyrighted images from patents. --hydrox (talk) 13:42, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 11:53, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year 2013 R1 Announcement[edit]

On "correct" arms[edit]

Hi! Please check out this template, for instance: Template:coa blazon. Heraldry is quite flexible when it comes to the "legality" of versions. - Ssolbergj (talk) 15:02, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for correcting. I was not aware that the rules are so flexible. The Helsinki city board has made an official decree (in Finnish only) about using the shield. In it they say among others "when using the shield, it must be heraldically correct and conform to the city's communication and graphical instructions." On the next page follow what I understand are the "graphical instructions", where they iterate the exact color values to use in the shield and the images of the shield in different possible variations. --hydrox (talk) 11:53, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Affected:

Yours sincerely, Erick Soares3 (talk) 19:07, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
