I wouldn't trust anything from that site. Given that this and other obvious copyvios are in the same gallery, with the same kind of treatment, it seems clear that the blogger is not bothering to care about who actually owns the images. --dave pape 20:15, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Image deletions

Hi - the fact that the author blanks an image license/description is not a reason to delete the image I'm afraid. Once licensed the image no longer "belongs" to the original uploader (assuming the license was valid). Thanks --Herby talk thyme 16:00, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Nope - the "completely blank" there refers to the fact that there is no image (it does happen) not the fact that there is no text.
What may be the case is that they change their mind with licensing. The trouble there is that once licensed it cannot be revoked which is far harder to deal with :). Cheers --Herby talk thyme 16:11, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Warning and Thai licences

Dear Sdrtirs,

I have uploaded the portrait of the King of Thailand in good faith. The words "fair use" were not mentioned on the Thai Wikipedia. You will probably understand that as a Dutchman I can't read Thai script. I gave the original Thai licence as information when I uploaded the picture on Wikipedia Commons. Therefore I find the warning a little harsh.

Faithfull yours,

Hi there, I gave you all the information you needed to verify the status of the James Fraser Mustard photo, so get busy and verify it, or stick it up your arse and I swear I will never contribute a single thing every a bloody gain. Actually, when I was working with Fraser today, he said he couldn't care less whether he even had a wikipedia entry or not. Randal Oulton (talk) 02:28, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

about the description

hi, thanks for your notice. Could you please tell me the name of the bad description photo? The most photo I upload come from flickr, but some of them lack of the description in flickr and I just only use my understanding as the description.--atlaslin (talk) 10:52, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

you can check the original photo in flickr, where is none description at all, and what I see is just a nude asian woman in this photo, so I name it and also add it into Category "nude women", I wonder what can I do else?
So I'm confused, what's your opnion about this photo? I think the description about this photo is enough to express the information of it, and I think my description about it is not "bad"?--atlaslin (talk) 11:11, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Then thanks for your help and advice again!--atlaslin (talk) 11:18, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Stop!

Hello Sdrtirs, please stop adding Svg to German Coats of arms. It is not neccessary and will be removed if found. There are 20.000 COAs from Germany which are not SVG, and which are also not marked with Svg. So please stop and play at another place. Thanks. ChristianBier (talk) 15:10, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Image:BMCL-Logo.svg

Hi. You just marked Image:BMCL-Logo.svg as a copyvio. Question: I just used the original logo as a template and created it from scratch with Inkscape. Is this also a copyvio? --hdamm (talk) 14:18, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

So, as I created this image, I am the copyright holder, right? --hdamm (talk) 14:24, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
What about Image:BTS Logo Bangkok Skytrain.png then? Sorry, but I can't see the difference. --hdamm (talk) 14:38, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
You asked: "Who created this Image:BMCL-Logo.png?" As I said before (above), I created it from scratch with Inkscape software. --hdamm (talk) 15:05, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Another Question: who decides if a logo applies to ? Wouldn't this also apply to my picture? --hdamm (talk) 15:24, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of images

You have deleted images of a international well-known person. The images are with him together with international well-known politicians, religious dignitaries and artists. Please undelete any images right now as this is work in progress. The person depicted are recently deceased and in the news in Norway. [3] and [4] If you claim those images are without the scoope of the project I would like to have the policy given by exact quotes. Jeblad (talk) 16:00, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

TBVE sent them to me for uploading. They run a news magazine, and has theur own photographers, so any photos taken as part of the photographers work is implicitt released to TBVE according to Norwegian law. If you claim they do not have the right to do so, then I prefer you contact them. You may contact Geir Ingar Egeland, press coordinator at TBVE, either at geir(at)tbve.no or (47) 92 22 57 27. Otherwise I prefer that you remove your tagging of the images. Jeblad (talk) 16:15, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I've seen you had added on this image a tag requiering flickr review. In fact, as I've indicated on the description, I've extracted myself this image from Image:David Yow-6.jpg, which has already been reviewed by a bot. I don't know if the bot may check it out properly, because the image is different from the one on flickr. I'm afraid the bot replaces the extracted image by the original, or something else wrong. Maybe I have not done everything properly, I'm not very familiar with commons.

I hope you can tell me...

Thank you

Please excuse if my message is not clear, I'm not perfectly at ease with english.

I understood the problem when you shown me those two images. In the description of the cropped image version, please make reference to the original image that was reviewed. Adding this reference as source, there is no need to review it again. You can take a look at Image:David Yow-6cut.jpg and see what I had done. For any more questions, I'm available to help. copyright violations

How do I add pictures without getting a copyright violation!?--Bobo44 (talk) 00:46, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Just add free images. You had uploaded copyrighted images with comic characters, for example, which isn't accepted on Commons. English language Wikipedia accepts those images as for illustration of a critical review. Commons is meant to be a place for free images. Fair use images aren't free, so there is no place for them here. Maybe in Wikipedia. Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 00:53, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
See Commons:Licensing#Checklist--Sdrtirs (talk) 00:57, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

This image was recently marked as a copyright viloation, apparently by you. If your concern is the PCB design shown in the screen shot, then please see the website for the MintyBoost project and verify that it provided under the Creative Commons 2.5 license. Per that license, I will give proper attribution to ladyada.net (the source of the gerbers that resulted in the images, which probably isn't covered by the copyright anyway since the images are the result of my own work creating an anti-aliased gerber file renderer). Nonetheless, please look for that attribution when I repost, and if you have any other concerns please give me an opportunity to address them before summarily deleting it again.

Thanks!—Preceding unsigned comment added by Circuitpeople (talk • contribs) 15:44, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Is this web site you are talking? There is no reference at all any copyright note, so it is presumed to be copyrighted. When the site hasn't described it's copyright status and the owner wants it to be free (see Commons:Licensing first), it has to go through OTRS permission to be stored in Wikimedia OTRS system. If a screenshot from a site that is copyrighted or doesn't say it's copyright status and an email wasn't sent to OTRS, then the image is deleted as copyright violation. When you send the email, please insert OTRS pending in the image description to avoid the image been deleted. I hope that I had explain it well. I don't know anything about polish, but the author (which I contacted by email) told me the clause at the bottom of every page says all his work is released in public domain. Here is the link on the discussion about the logo with the ROX developers (it is not up to date: I received the author name and contacted him by email, but you must wait the digest period to see the following messages), there is no much I can do... --NicolaFontana (talk) 21:08, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

it is a better pix anyway.

Deletion

Dear Sdrtirs,

i've noticed your message. Sorry, i got some problems with Wikipedia, about what professional artist (i'm a fashion photographer) can or cannot do with their own photos inside articles, because nothing is clearly written inside the Wikipedia notice (except few blurred advices). So i thought first to find a friendly issue, but it doesn't work. Then i am currently thinking about calling my lawyer. But before that i've tryed to put my photo credit inside the picture (as you noticed it), to avoid a legal problem.

Anyway, my request is : can you please definitely delete all the pictures i uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.

If i find an issue with Wikipedia i'll upload it again soon.

Many thanks. Gabriel. --Gabriel Moginot (talk) 23:42, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

What's the problem with this image? There's a clear permission at the provided permission page http://www.ebi.ac.uk/Information/termsofuse.html. In particular, at number ten, it is said

The EBI itself places no restrictions on the use or redistribution of the data available via its services.

So, what's the problem? Do you mind something regarding the authorship? The author - Jawahar Swaminathan - is the EBI's head of the EBI's MDS service, so there's no rights of third parties, because Swaminathan is EBI himself. --Giac83 20:33, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Come up for air please

Hey!

I noticed your going through my previous images and marking deletions, which is great! Commons is a community edited resource, and we need people to make sure it stays within the bounds of scope. Problem is, the last two you placed on my profile were not valid. Image:Gaim.svg is not my upload, I just validated the SVG; please notify only the original unloader in those scenarios. Since I work in images that need cleanup, I sometimes work on materials that will later be marked for deletion. These are not my problems.

Secondly, Image:Antena3.png and the derivative Image:Antena3.svg have been marked with the Template:trademarked. This means that the images is considered generic enough not to be considered copyrightable. If you have concerns, use Template:delete, not go directly to Template:copyvio. That is only for obvious cases of infringement. I've converted the copyvio on Image:Antena3.svg to a delete to allow the community to decide the fate of that file.

In short, keep up the good work! But, please look bit harder before you leap!

Thanks!

Logos are permitted if they asserts in PD-textlogo, when they only consists of simple geometric shapes and text. They do not meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection, and are therefore public domain. In this case, there is originality, so it isn't public domain, copyrighted. If this logo doesn't have permission for copyright owner, it's a copyright violation and it must be deleted! Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 22:50, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Still, that's not a judgment call I would personally like to be responsible for, which is why going through the deletion requests channel is a good thing. (also, it is three simple geometric shapes, on an orange background, so I think it still might fall under that...) --MozillaMan(talk) 23:06, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
FYI, I had notify the original uploaders too.--Sdrtirs (talk) 22:53, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Great! --MozillaMan(talk) 23:06, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I had notified the original uploaders when I notified you.--Sdrtirs (talk) 09:40, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Request to undelete Image:Cal Hep B Free Logo.png

I am the original creator of the Cal Hep B Free logo. It is a derivative of the San Francisco Hep B Free logo which I have had permission to replicate specifically from the San Francisco Hep B Free Steering Group. The usage of "Cal" and "UC Berkeley" in the logo has been approved by the University of California, Berkeley's Office of Marketing and Buiness Outreach (OMBO). This is not a copyright violation of any sort. We have been publicly using this logo since the beginning of 2008.

Thank you for your understanding.—Preceding unsigned comment added by DenisLam (talk • contribs) 04:04, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

All requests for undelete content must go through Commons:Undeletion requests.--Sdrtirs (talk) 04:41, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Unwanted reloading

Hi.

Thanks por your advice. My reloadings was a mistake. Because of this, I would like to make you a question: How can I delete this uhnwanted uploading. Thanks for your time--Juanfa61 (talk) 15:44, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I made a notice that this is not copyright violation, because I designed the map myself. What is going to happen next? Is it you who retires the copyviotag or someone else? Havang(nl) (talk) 20:24, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Are you the copyright owner of the logo? Even if you create it, it doesn't mean that you own the logo copyrights. If you own the copyright of the logo, then please send a permission to OTRS. Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 02:16, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

You have removing a speedydelete tag referred to a logo in a map. Although the uploader said that he created by itself the map, it doesn't mean that the uploader is copyright owner of the logo due to, like it's said in the tag, Recreating a logo yourself does not give you the right to license it under a free license, and fair use claims are not allowed on Commons. So be careful with the removal of tags and try to search information before your actions. Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 02:25, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

I hadn't actually seen the logo in the upper right. But as you didn't explain the meaning of your contribution, I haven't any information before my action. And personally I wouldn't speedy delete this image. Please use Commons:Deletion requests. Cheers.--Bapti 08:59, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Starting from a working version I have made a new version here Image:Bomenpark Meijhorst, Nijmegen (Gld, NL).jpg and because of "upload complications" also here Image:Bomenpark Meijhorst, Nijmegen (Gld, NL).JPG. Havang(nl) (talk) but this JPG-image was based on a wrong version ; so I asked for speedydelete of that one. The final correct image has jpg but has the copyviotag. I'll wait and see what happens next. Havang(nl) (talk) 10:24, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello, can you explain me the tag "BadJPEG"; what has to be changed and can I do that myself? Havang(nl) (talk) 14:50, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Simple: the image can be more efficiently or more accurately for resize purposes and web presentation. That's why. This tag only means that the image should be in other format than the JPEG format. Someone with graphic experience can do that. Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 15:03, 28 September 2008 (UTC).
Thanks, Havang(nl) (talk) 16:00, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi, the documents haven't a copyright because only have public information, I received freely from the Japanese Embassy. Also, I try to take a blurry image only for educative purposes. Thanks. --Taichi (talk) 22:53, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Freely available to public as public information doesn't mean the copyright is in public domain. You said you received from Japanese Embassy, so, as it looks, the Japanese Government is the copyright owner of those books. Only the copyright owner, not the physical owner, may release them into a free license accepted in Commons. If you wish to use this image as education purpose, upload it at en.wiki, where fair use is accepted, but not in Commons. Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 23:00, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
They're brochures, and haven't a copyright; in these brochures haven't marked the C sign or a atribbution of rights. I asked for these, and said that are public documents, because only have the explain of these laws. Well, you win.--Taichi (talk) 21:57, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Your two messages

 • Hi there. You let two messages in my user page. Regarding the first, the link already provided in the description would have take you to the page where the material license is defined (CC 2,0). Anyway, I put it also on the Permission line, so please check if it is all right now.
 • For the second message, it is not clear to me to what are you refering specifically, the same image?, if that is the case, please see the map used in the context of the article w:Ethanol fuel in Brazil, is an illustration as any other, only that is originated in a published paper released for use under attribution. I have not ever uploaded text from paper or of any kind in Commons. I will appreciate if you are more explicit regarding this general message. --Mariordo (talk) 14:31, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Sonia Silvestre y otros problemas

Hola, Sdrtirs.

Hi, I added the license with source. Its GNU GPL v2 is it ok now? Also suggest about Image:EnvyNG logo.png I have added the same comment on its talk page. Thanks -Knownot (talk) 16:32, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

The image come from of the press site of Renault : it's a site specially for public domain !! Ascaron (talk) 20:55, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

The press site is for public information, i. e., anyone can access the information and view their photos, but unfortunately this doesn't mean that their works copyleft or in the public domain, just only says that it is free to access from other people. Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 21:00, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Journalists use this press site to copy the photo and print them into their newspaper. It also use to have informations. It will be strange if journalists can read the informations and cannot use it. Ascaron (talk) 21:04, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Lemme check to see if the remaining pictures here are copyright violations: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Ontheeedge WhisperToMe (talk) 07:09, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Imagens apagadas.

Sdrtirs (talk) 07:37, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Image:StarvingToDeathOnAGovernmentClaim.jpg

Hello, I don't agree with your reason to delete the image, so I changed the nomination for speedy deletion to a normal deletion. See Commons:Deletion requests/Image:StarvingToDeathOnAGovernmentClaim.jpg for my opinion. regards, Waylon (talk) 17:25, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi there - thanks for your note on my talk page. The reason there isn't permission information given is because I couldn't understand the complicated image upload instructions. I created the image and I created and designed the object that is the image's subject so naturally I give permission for it to be used. However I have no website staking a claim or relating me to the image in any way so I don't know what evidence I can provide. 82.132.136.211 19:24, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Just send an email saying that you are the copyright owner and saying which license you release it. Sdrtirs (talk) 06:18, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

My uploads

Hi, i know that my previous uploads have been subjected to copyright vio. Actually i didnot understand the Creative Commons Attrb 2.0 or Sharelike before. But now i do. I have just uploaded some images. Could you lpease verify them and let me know if i am uploading correctly licensed images? Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Legolas2186 (talk) 10:23, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Sdrtirs. Thanks for your tips. I will keep in mind next time. I have uploaded one file File:Mugdhagodse.jpg which is not correctly licensed (from a website), which i didnot see before. Can you please delete it for me? Legolas2186 (talk) 11:40, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Freedom of Panorama?

Hi. I am just curious, but what is this edit trying to achieve? What is different about this picture than any of the thousands of other photographs of buildings I have taken and uploaded here? What about the work is derivative, other than of course the architecture? I am not concerned by the Fop template, just curious as to why it applies in this case when images like this one seem to be OK. Cheers, Mattinbgn/talk 21:29, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

File:Brigitte Bardot young.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Br-153.gif. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Br-153.gif) and the above demanded information in your request.
