Relief map[edit]

Hi, I wondered if you might be able to help me, or at best, give me some information.

I have used this File:Relief Map of Spain.png to create a war map, which the user derived from your File:Spain location map.svg. Unfortunately, he is inactive, and has not been involved on Commons since 2010. I would very much like an SVG map, of the same style and relief detail, colours, etc, based on your map File:Italy North location map.svg, to use for a few things I'm working on, on en-Wiki.

I have been messing about with Quantum GIS, but am not able to find vector data, only raster TIFFs, for it.. the result is pixely, and I am not too familiar with the software. I was wondering if you could either create such a map for me, or advise me how the Spanish one was done, so that I might give it a go.

Hello! I'm a bit confused. A relief isn't vector data, it's always JPG, PNG, TIF... I'm not sure which program Виктор В used to create his maps but I know that most cartographers in WP use en:Generic Mapping Tools for it. The easiest way to create a relief map of northern Italy could be asking User:Sting who made File:Italy relief location map.jpg. Perhaps he still has got the data. Thanks. What I was doing was following the info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Graphic_Lab/Resources/QGis_lesson_1:_Create_a_topographic_background and I clicked on this map at the side http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Washington_topographic_map-fr.svg and noted that the Source details mention ENTOP1, which I tried and just can't seem to match the same level of detail. Perhaps I'm just unclear of how he manages it. I'll ask User:Sting, as you suggest, as this QGIS is a bit out of me league at the moment, and very time consuming to learn for a couple of maps. Why can't I use demis-pd permission?[edit]

Images I uploaded [[1]] [[2]] [[3]] and you said those images must be deleted because they used "Google map screenshot". I confirm that I do not use Google map to create those images. I use picture in "www.demis.nl" and write the permissions are: demis-pd. If you say those images must be deleted, please explain why this image: [[4]] have existed? This image also use picture in "www.demis.nl" and it wrote permission: demis-pd. Like my images. dokientrung

Hello. Your files doesn't look like File:Map of Vietnam Demis.png, they look like Google Maps. It is the same relief like in Google Maps and even the states names are placed at the same spot. Hey, Lencer! Be careful your words! Or you think you are a big boss in Wikimedia? I will say the last time that I do not use google maps, I use demis.nl and I wrote the permission: demis.pd like other image that use demis.nl. I sent all link for your checking. Do you check it carefully? dokientrung
The original demis-nl data is the look you choose with the button VMap0 in the upper right corner. When you press the buttons left of it you will see that the copyright text in the corner is changing, in most cases to ©2011 Google. Ob du irgendein Cleanupscript verwendest, oder nicht, oder doch egal - du machst den Edit. Ja, nicht jeder Account muss gleich heißen hier - aber das ist eh klar, weil der Accountname doch verlinkt ist. Das was bei Urheber steht, kann als gewünschte Namensnennung angesehen werden - und du hast einfach etwas angefügt (bzw. es beim Cleanup nicht entfernt), was vorher nicht da stand. First of all I am not an administrator. So it was not me who deleted File:Mapa Duco.jpg but User:Adrignola. Then it wasn't "your creation". You took a screenshot of Google Maps and inserted a stadium. This doesn't make it your work with your copyright, it is still data which is copyrighted by Google Maps. You could use data by OpenStreetMap without a problem instead. Concluding I can tell you that I am patient with displeased people, but another "pobres niños" or "perdedor" and you will find your name at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems. Alphand: Planche Buttes-Chaumont[edit]

Hallo NNW, danke für die Erklärung. Ich hatte das Photo extra geschossen, um das hochformatige Eingangsbild für den WPArtikel Parc des Buttes-Chaumont zu ersetzen/verbessern. Es stimmt natürlich, dass die Bildtafel gedreht gehört, villeicht können wir eine zweite Version ("90 Grad") erstellen? Die Sache ist die: Der Park wird meist in eben diesem Hochformat dargestellt (u.a.: Limido, 2002: [6]). Zwecks Wiedererkennungswert und dem Umstand, dass der Artikel die bekannte Form des Parks als "Schlafmütze" zusätzlich thematisiert, sollte das Bild schon im Hochformat stehen. Das ist natürlich mit dem Alpandbild in der Tat suboptimal gelöst. Mein Dilemma ist: ich hätte gern ein (traditionelles) Hochformatbild als Eingangsbild und gleichzeitig das von Alphand, das als ältestes Bild des Parks eine gewisse Autorität besitzt, aber die Beschriftung/schattierung... ich weiß. Falls ich auf die Schnelle kein besseres Finde (vielleicht hat die BHVP noch eins von Deschamps) würde ich gern diese Zwischenlösung beibehalten. Edge coordinates and suggested improvement to Toronto map.png[edit]

I have posted two items to File talk:Toronto map.png and wanted to ask if you could comment there about them please: 1) Are the edge coordinates available for the map? I would like to use it as a location map for Toronto (it is much better than anything else existing), and the edge coordinates would be required; 2) Could the Don River be added to the map? It is one of two key rivers in the city, along with the Humber River, the latter which is already depicted. Please answer on the talk page. Topographisches Relief aus SVG-Karte[edit]

Du benötigst ein Programm, das ein Relief aus digitalen Höhendaten, in der Regel SRTM, errechnen kann. Die meisten WPler arbeiten wohl mit de:Generic Mapping Tools, es gibt aber auch einige andere Programme. Das hängt auch mit dem Betriebssystem deines Rechners zusammen. Das Relief muss dann in derselben Projektion und denselben Begrenzungen wie die administrative Karte hergestellt werden. NNW (talk) 10:06, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Neue Dateiversionen der Neusser Stadtteilkarten[edit]

Hey NNW, vielleicht hast du es schon gesehen, ich wollte hier dennoch nochmal darauf aufmerksam machen. Ich habe mir eben die Arbeit gemacht, die Neusser Stadtteilkarten komplett zu bearbeiten, also den gemeinten Stadtteil rötlich belassen, alle anderen jedoch in Graustufen konvertiert. Da diese Karten bloß in Artikel solcher Stadtteile eingebunden werden, habe ich auch den Schriftzug entfernt, wo der jeweilige Stadtteil genannt wird. Eine kleine Anbindung (daher hatte ich bei dir ja damals auch angefragt) eine deiner Karten in meinem neusten Artikel: Stadionviertel (Neuss). Hallo CherryX! Ich hätte es begrüßt, wenn du mich vor der kompletten Umstellung der Karten angesprochen hättest, schließlich hätte ich es ja nicht so doll finden können, was du machst, und zur Vermeidung potenziellen Ärgers. Wenn man einen Artikel auf Wikipedia komplett überarbeiten will, fragt man auch besser erstmal bei den Hauptautoren nach oder kündigt das auf der Disk an. Tatsächlich hätte ich die Karten so heute auch nicht mehr gemacht und finde deine Version ganz gelungen. (Vielleicht hätte ich den Rhein blau gelassen, aber das ist nicht wichtig.) Ethiopian map[edit]

I'm updating the pages of subdivisions of Ethiopia and there have been some quite significant changes of borders of some Ethiopian regions. The source of my data about subdivisions is coming from 2007 National Census tables - http://www.csa.gov.et/index.php?option=com_rubberdoc&view=category&id=72&Itemid=521 And most recent maps what I have found are on the page of http://ochaonline.un.org/ethiopia/MapCentre/Archive/tabid/3907/language/en-US/Default.aspx under Admin Maps. Are these maps enough for you to make changes to Ethiopia location map? So it would be possible to change also the maps of regions of Ethiopia which are based on your map. --Vatse (talk)

Map of Greater Buenos Aires[edit]

My compliments on the Argentina Buenos Aires City location map.

The map parameters, however, are too close around Buenos Aires proper - such that most of Greater Buenos Aires is inadvertently left out. Many of the cities in the metro area, consequently, appear well outside their respective article infoboxes when this map is applied, and even far into the text itself.

Your map, I should add, is a vast improvement over the previous one used. Allow me to suggest these parameters, though:

  • South: 35°02'
  • East: 58°08'
  • North: 34°19'
  • West: 59°00'

These, you'll find, would cover all towns and cities in the Greater Buenos Aires quiltwork, from Presidente Perón in the South to Escobar in the North, and from Ranelagh in the East to General Rodríguez in the West.

Please write back if you have any questions or suggestions at all.

Hello! Most location maps (and Argentina Buenos Aires City location map, too) show an area which has got an ISO 3166-2 code. Of course a location map like the one you suggest can be made. It would be like File:Tierra del Fuego location map.svg and needs an extra template. I don't know if this map should show the boundaries of the surrounding towns (are there any sources for it?). Thanks for writing back.
I'm glad to hear a new map can be made without running afoul of any code. I mentioned those cities by way of explaining that these coordinates would cover the entire Greater Buenos Aires area, and that these cities would be near the furthest points on each coordinate for such a map. This map outlines both the 24 counties in the metro area, as well as the built-up areas themselves; the data is referenced from the INDEC statistical service (such as they are). This more detailed map was published a few years ago by the Argentine Automobile Club.
A detailed map with the name and boundaries of each town and city in the metro area quiltwork would be very time consuming indeed, so I certainly didn't mean to suggest it. Something like what you have now, but with the new coordinates and (if you feel like it) the county boundaries, would be more than adequate I'm sure.

Ecuador Positionskarte[edit]

Revert: OK. Sah schlimm aus. Es lohnt sich evtl. noch ein Blick auf en:La Concordia Canton. Dieser Kanton wechselt offenbar von en:Esmeraldas Province zu en:Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas Province. Die neue Provinzgrenze erkennt man bei File:Cantones de Esmeraldas.png. Ich weiß von Equador nix und mein Spanisch ist rudimentär: daher verlasse dich bitte nicht auf mich. Ich habe nur versucht die Änderungen, die da auch an meinen Lagekarten vorgenommen wurden (habe hier auch überall aus optischen Gründen rv gemacht), zu prüfen un da ist mir obiges aufgefallen. Ich dachte, das könnte dich vielelicht interessieren. File:Cantones de Esmeraldas.png zeigt übrigens noch eine Abweichung deiner Karte und der Karte von User:Joffrenomuere der schmale Gebietsstreifen ganz im Südwesten von en:Imbabura Province wie auf File:Cantones de Imbabura.png gemalt ist bei dir Teil von en:Esmeraldas Province. Die sortieren die entsprechenden Asiakategorien in Category:1950s ein, obwohl sie in die vorhandene Jahreskategorie (also in diesem Fall z.B.: Category:1950 by continent gehören (wo sie auch schon sind). Hallo! Erstmal mal wieder ein großes Dźakuju für deine Kartenarbeiten, besonders natürlich für jene, die die Lausitz betreffen. Eine Anmerkung zu deiner Europeada-Karte: Schöner (sowohl optisch, als auch sprachpolitisch) fände ich persönlich es, wenn die sorbischen Ortsnamen ohne Klammern geschrieben würden. Hello! You used Maps-for-free for this map. The license of M-f-f is only GFDL 1.2, see here. That means your derivative map has to be GFDL, too. You added boundaries taken from file:South Sudan location map.svg which is CC-BY-SA-3.0. It is impossible to combine two files with these two licenses. I missed that point, correct. But then this map has to be CC-BY-SA-3.0 only or a similar CC-BY-SA license because South Sudan location map.svg demands this. GFDL is impossible for this data. Oh, I just understood now that file:South Sudan location map.svg is your work (as well as some other location maps I used for other countries topographic maps).
What can I do ? Maps-for-free derivative maps must be GFLD 1.2 or later. If CC-BY-SA is not compatible (even once the boundaries attribution updated), I see only two ways :
  1. Add in all original files the GFLD 1.2
  2. Delete all the maps I've done from Maps-for-free

  • when I was young I made many maps not with the informatic actual tools (Publisher, Photoshop, etc) but in the old way (with pencils, stick-up screens & letters, etc);
  • today, I scan some of my old documents, and I re-work it with Photoshop.

This colleagues in Wkp world, thinks in a first time than I'm a robber of others author's works. In a side, they are right in the scientific way because all scientific document is based on other anterior documents; in the other side, they are wrong because my Wkp documents are ameliored and transformed relative to my sources or old own works. After dicussion & verifications, they accept my works in the most of cases. When I'm wrong (method or contains) I accept the deletion. Hey NNW, eine kurze Frage an dich: Ich versuche gerade irgendwie über OpenStreetMap die Umrisse des Neusser Stadionviertels zu markieren, komme da jedoch irgendwie nicht weiter. Es sieht immer so ungenau aus und wenn ich näher ran zoome, hört es sich im inneren meines Computers so an, als würde der Lüfter den Prozessor erlegen oder umgekehrt. Jedenfalls erträgt sich Mac wohl nicht so gut mit Flash. Habe auch schon etwas von Marble gehört, das startet bei mir aber irgendwie nicht. Ich wollte dich fragen, ob du mir da vielleicht irgendwie weiterhelfen könntest bzw. ob du irgendwie auf eine einfachere Art die Umrisse kenntlich machen könntest, wenn ich dir die jeweiligen Grenzen mitteilen würde.

  • Westen: A 57
  • südliche Spitze: Autobahnkreuz (A 46 / A 57)
  • Süden/Osten: Eisenbahnstrecke bis zum Hauptbahnhof (bis dorthin, wo es spitz zuläuft; N/O der Stephanstraße)
  • Norden: vom Hauptbahnhof die westlich verlaufende Gleisanlage, bis zum Nordkanal; dort gibt es noch eine Art Dreieck: den Nortkanal nördlich hoch, bis der Konrad-Adenauer-Ring gekreuzt wird; diesen kurz südlich runter, dann in westliche Richtung: Quaxpfad -> Stoffelsweg, an der Kreuzung den Eselspfad nördlich hoch bis hin zur Bauerbahn nördlich des gekennzeichneten Wasserwerks (Broichhof) - von dort die A 57 wieder runter

Wäre super, wenn das in Ordnung gehen würde; wenn nicht, dann dennoch bitte Bescheid sagen, damit ich mal schaue, ob ich das irgendwie hinbekomme. ;-) Ist es möglich, das irgendwie ohne größeren Aufwand so hinzubekommen? Die Beschreibung habe ich vielleicht etwas komplizierter formuliert, als sie eigentlich ist (vgl. Vorschaubild).

Wenn man die Straßennamen lesen könnte, wäre es natürlich schon schön. Dann bräuchte man mehrere Screenshots, die man mit Photoshop zusammensetzen könnte. Da könnte man auch die Grenze nachzeichnen und eine Maske daraus basteln, um alles außerhalb des Stadionviertels aufzuhellen (z.B.). Alternativ, aber aufwendig wäre ein Export von OSM-Daten (am besten als PDF), die dann in Illustrator bearbeitet werden. Dabei könnte man Unnötiges herauslöschen. Was auch ginge, wäre ein Einzeichnen der Grenzen direkt in OSM, falls du Mapper bist (ich bin es nicht). Dann könnte man das Gebiet attributieren und wie im Artikel de:Neuss, wenn du oben im Kopf die Karte aktivierst hast, rot hervorheben lassen. Das ist allerdings nur was für angemeldete Benutzer. Eben eine andere OSM-Anfängerfrage, wo ich hoffe, dass du mir da weiterhelfen kannst. Wenn ich etwas mehr zoome (in OSM), dann bekomme die ganzen Shops etc. angezeigt, die dort getaggt wurden. Gibt es eine Möglichkeit, die zu verstecken? Dann wäre nämlich auch an meinem Computer eine Bearbeitung in OSM möglich. In dem Fall ist ein Export der Daten als PDF und eine Bearbeitung in Illustrator sehr praktisch, weil du alles rausschmeißen kannst, was du nicht willst. For this I would like to know where (website/link pls) do you get your administrative division shapefiles/images for all the countries, as I tried to create something using GADM, but the borders are not the same as in the maps used on the wiki.

What projection do you use and how do you determine the edges (N,S,W,E)?

Hello! I usually start with VMAP data which is quite outdated unfortunately. After that I try to find out which are the newest administrative changes. I have never taken GADM data. For Denmark e.g. this site offers data for the years 1970–2006. It's better to visit official websites of the countries: ordnance surveys or statistical offices, sometimes official touristical websites. This can be quite easy for some countries and impossible for others. (And I have a private pool of maps which I can use.) Working this way you usually won't find shapefiles but have to take images.
If you have a program which can handle geographic information system data it is easy to determine the outer borders of a file. Alternatively you can do it via Google Earth. German Wikipedia offers a service for it. You can find it at the bottom of each location map template, e.g. de:Vorlage:Positionskarte Rumänien: Die Karte als KML-Datei in Google Earth öffnen (= Open this map as a KML file in Google Earth). You could open this KML file with a simple text editor, change the name of the map and try to get the correct edges via try & error. It usually takes just some minutes. Or you can do this directly in Google Earth: import the file, scale the file and try coordinates until it fits. This might work a little bit faster.
Most location maps have the equirectangular projection. For those you need the coordinates for the edges. It's important not to mix the equirectangular projection with Mercator or any other cylindrical projection. OSM data (no equirectangular projection) can only be used for small areas where the differences between the projections don't matter. Don't take the equirectangular projection directly but "stretch" the map in north to south direction so that the countries look like they have to. E.g.:
  • Croatia in equirectangular projection
    Croatia in equirectangular projection
  • 140 % stretched for correct shape
    140 % stretched for correct shape
Best way to get a good % for stretching is: take the latitude in the middle of your map, as an example 55° N. Then calculate (1/(cos 55)) * 100, that's ~174 %.
If you want to produce maps for areas near to the poles the equirectangular projection is a bad idea. For this you can take some other projections but then the location map template needs other data, see e.g. en:Template:Location map Canada.
Please follow the graphical advices of File:Positionskartenerstellung - Signaturvorlage.svg. The colours were chosen by a cross-wiki team of cartographers to get location maps which all look the same. The thickness of lines can vary if it is necessary. In the end it just have to look fine. Hallo NNW, ich habe diese Karte entdeckt weil sie im Artikel de:Bahnstrecke Lüneburg–Soltau eingefügt wurde. Die Legende ist nicht ganz richtig. Der linke Ast der roten Bahnstrecke ist nicht Hannover-Hamburg sondern de:Bahnstrecke Wittenberge–Buchholz. Hello! Why don't you just upload an OSM screenshot [11]? That's the fast solution. On the other hand en:St Johns Wood, Queensland has got the coordinates in the upper right corner of the article. With a click onto the coordinates you get lots of maps of St Johns Wood. (And they will be updated in the future. That cannot be guaranteed for a Wikipedia map. That's the reason why there are only few city maps in Wikipedia.) Creating a new map is only sensible if this map would show something new that cannot be found in the maps that are already linked. Das französische Original bezeichnet im Westen die kleinen Nebeninseln Motu Tautara und Motu Ko Hepoko, was auch in der englischen Version übernommen ist. erstmal sorry, dass ich mich hier nicht mehr gemeldet habe – ich hab's (wie befürchtet) schlicht vergessen. Nach deiner Änderung der Dateibeschreibungsseite ist mir jetzt auch klar, wo das Missverständnis lag: Ich war davon ausgegangen, dass es sich nur um einen Zuschnitt der Originaldatei (mit geklonter Umrandung) handelte. Da das US Department of State in der Karte selbst vermerkt, dass die Grenzen not necessarily authoritative sind, dachte ich, dass du dich darauf beziehst – dass Lezgistxa da selbst Hand angelegt hat war bei mir nicht angekommen. Das erklärt deine Reaktion. :o) Problematisch an der Datei ist, dass sie eine stark verfälschte Grenze zeigt, es jedoch keinen Mechanismus gibt, um sicherzustellen, dass sie nicht in der Wikipedia verwendet wird oder dass die Dateibeschreibung wieder verändert wird, um die Verfälschung zu verschleiern. Die Bearbeitung ist gut genug, dass man sie auf den ersten Blick übersehen kann. Und wer hat schon die Grenzlinien im Kaukasus vor dem inneren Auge, um die Richtigkeit einschätzen? So eine Vorlage wäre eine schöne Sache, ich fürchte nur, dass es bei Karten schwieriger ist als bei Flaggen. Ist eine Kaschmir-Karte, die die indische Sicht darstellt, für Pakistaner fiktiv? Unabdingbar wäre eine gute Definition, wann so eine Vorlage eingesetzt werden soll, und man müsste sich wohl auf immer mal wieder aufflammende Diskussionen um Einzelkarten einstellen. Der Unterschied ist, bei der Kaukasus-Karte geht es um eine bewusste Grenzänderung, die nicht einmal Aserbaidschan anstrebt. Das ist etwas anderes als fehlende Quellen oder ein irreführender Dateiname, denn eigentlich gibt es bei der Kaukasus-Karte nichts zu diskutieren. „Inaccurate map“ ja, „disputed“ nein. Die Lizenz kannst du gerne unter dem Punkt == {{int:license-header}} == lassen. Bei Permission steht dann nur der OTRS-Hinweis, CC-BY-SA-3.0-DE müsste dann dort per Hand gelöscht werden, ist eh doppelt zur unten angegebenen Lizenz. So wird es von den meisten gehandhabt, es gibt aber auch andere Meinungen, es so zu handhaben, wie du gemacht hast. Macht aber mehr Arbeit, die Lizenz hochzukopieren. Schwieriger ist der Punkt Author = {{user at project|Bm reichenberg|wikipedia|de}}. Hier wird nicht klar, dass Bm reichenberg nur der Uploader war. Ein Zusatz „Uploader“ wäre hilfreich. (Du hast dir aber auch gleich einen schwierigen Fall herausgesucht. :o) ) Statt der Schreibweise {{user at project|Bm reichenberg|wikipedia|de}}, die vom Skript erstellt wird, bevorzugen viele lieber [[:de:User:Bm reichenberg|Bm reichenberg]], was man am schnellsten aus dem Upload log kopieren kann. Dies sind umstrittene Varianten. Das sage ich dir nur, damit du weißt, dass Rückfragen deswegen kommen könnten und du dir eine eigene Meinung dazu bilden kannst. Creating new maps[edit]

Hi NNW, I've seen that you are a huge contributor to location maps and that's why I decided to contact you. It's been some days since I first noticed those location maps, and I would like to contribute too, if I can. I've tried to understand by my own but unsuccessfully. The first problem I have is where to find the source map to work on. I've seen that your maps and all the location maps loaded in Commons have the same style, same colours, same draw. Is there a website where do you take them from? Secondly, after you've saved the source map on your computer, which program do you use to work on it? Maybe Paint, or Excel, PhotoShop, or which one? Giants of Monte Prama map[edit]

I offer my apologies. I remembered that on the basis of Italian law no artistic images, after 30 years, could be uploaded on wikicommons as, for example here: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Necropoli_monte_Prama_scavi_bedini.jpeg; but I remembered wrong the date; the image must be older to 1976. the map is dated 1979. Und nun eine Mini-Frage und Bitte: wenn man den obigen Ortsartikel öffnet, dann zeigt die kleine Version der Karte oben rechts einen kleinen roten Punkt mit der Lage des Ortes. Soweit fein. Wenn man die Karte dann vergrößern will und diese in einem neuen Fenster erscheint, dann ist der rote Punkt verschwunden. Merkwürdig... Hallo und vielen Dank! Allerdings kann ich Ihnen dabei leider nicht helfen. Die Lage des Punktes wird über eine Vorlage ausgerechnet und dieser dann über die Karte gelegt. Diese Funktionalität wird beim Klick auf die Karte nicht angeboten. Die einzige Wikipedia, die so einen Service anbietet, ist die hebräische, allerdings hat die keinen Artikel zu Hanerau-Hademarschen. Viele Grüße, NNW (talk) 09:02, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(I answer here to keep the discussion at one page). Yes, there has been a discussion about the light grey – I have to look for it, don't know where, I forgot it. But I know there were three aspects: first of all there shouldn't be a colour that could be problematic for colour-blinded persons and orange/marroon is a mixture with red. The second aspect followed a consistent practice of the term "outside area". First level "outside area" is grey, so it seems to be logically to take another grey for second level (counties, departéments, Länder etc.), too. Third and last: The colour that attracts the most attention is red (like on traffic signs), so most of the locator dots are red, the second next is orange, then yellow and so on. It didn't seem logical to take that orange/marroon for second level outside area because in level of attention it would have meant:
  • red dot
  • second level outside area in orange
  • subject's area in yellow
  • first level outside area in grey
Second level outside area and subject's area should be in reverse order, so orange/marroon was evaluated as a bad colour. To be honest I was quite surprised that you didn't follow the "French style". :o)

Yes, it's a good tool, if you have stylesheets, particularly for osm data-based or naturalearth data-based complemented maps (points, texts, legend etc.), in order not to use Inkscape (and manual tasks) as much as possible. If not, Inkscape remains essential (and graphic tools in QGIS are not very practical). Yug updates his english tutorial occasionally, and I updates the french one, too, occasionally (this week I done it)(the two versions are approximately independant and are not reciprocal translations). Not yet german version, but this tutorial show usefull tools and how to make stylesheets. Anyway, it's not yet automation, but mapmaking become fast. Regarding colours, what about geolocalisation when there are yellow-red motorways and red roads (etc.) in the city ? (cf. these osm data-based maps : File:Abidjan location map-2.svg and File:Abidjan location map.svg, more pale). :0) Bourrichon (talk) 18:28, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
