Hi Mrmw, I have no problem with code optimizations. Many SVGs could be a fraction of their size. I do however have a problem if you remove image features. Especially color gradients. Like in File:Unbestimmte Schneide.svg or File:1,5cyl.svg in both cases the gradients were used to give the viewer a sense of the shape. They were part of the image content. If you can reduce the size and the image looks the same (or objectively better) - great. If you are reducing the size by removing image features and details - please don't (or upload your modified version under a different name). I have nothing against your image. But why overload a completely fine file of another user? Fixing error is OK, Overloading faulty files is fine. Your kind of overloading goes too far. Commons is big enough. Give users the chance to choose between different styles (the old one and yours) by uploading your own second variant. hallo, ich weiss ja dass dich das weniger interessiert - aber ich habe mir diese datei nochmal kurz angesehen. vielleicht kannst du die eine oder andere anregung verwenden?

20 punkte stur als einen kreis nach dem anderen zu zeichnen ist viel einfacher losbar. ubrigens ist dein letzter punkt doppelt.

wenn das elektron nicht als kreis mit noch zwei (!) pfaden sondern als ein pfad gezeichnet wird erubrigt sich die "a"-gruppe.

es ist dann naturlich der code viel unanschaulicher als mit all den circles - aber die datei ist nur mehr halb so gross. davon abgesehen dass alles immer noch sparsamer geht, ist deine version sehr gut!
ubrigens, ich vermeide in solchen fallen den erneuten upload, und zeige stattdessen nur den variierten code an. IMHO reicht das um vereinfachungen aufzuzeigen, und es belastet das dateisystem weniger. -- sarang♥사랑 12:43, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Eigentlich wollte ich das (dann überflüssige) Rasterbild nicht auch auf Commons geben; und dir könnte ich zwei Raster, jpg und png, anbieten - aber nun hast du es bereits gemacht, aus einer nicht so gut geeigneten Vorlage! Ich bin eigens gestern abend nochmal hin um ein unverzerrtes Bild zu machen. Für den Wagen ist Perspektive ganz gut, für die Silhouetten weniger, da kommt ziemliche Verzerrung rein. nein, ich bin zufrieden. die dame ist ein bisschen skinny geraten, magerer als im "original", aber das sieht höchstens besser aus. ich versuche immer nichts überflüssiges hochzuladen - und nach der erfolgten vektorizierung ist ein rasterbild nun mal redundant. deshalb tausche ich bilder die ohnehin nicht bleiben sollen i.a. mit anderen benutzern per mail aus, und wikimedia bleibt sauber.

vva ist nicht so ganz geeignet, das SVG soll nicht das photo ersetzen, es ist eher eine weiterentwicklung oder ableitung, ein derivat davon. es ist nicht besser oder schlechter, es ist was anderes. ich glaube du kennst viele bildbeschreibungsvorlagen, aber nicht alle, und in diesem fall ist es keine "reine vektorisierung" (derselbe bildinhalt als SVG), wie zB 1Silhouette Female.jpg → 1Silhouette Female.svg. vielleicht werde ich das noch ändern und mit anderer vorlage exakter beschreiben. sonst bin ich sehr zufrieden! -- sarang♥사랑 12:29, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

wozu - zu welchem behufe? um eine weitere silhouette zu den vorhandenen hinzuzufügen.
wofür - im sinne von ergebnis? um mit deiner geschicklichkeit die wikimedia zu bereichern.

nun, wir und hunderte andere erzeugen standig bilder fur die keine so unmittelbare verwendung vorliegt - um kategorien zu bereichern (wie in diesem fall), um methoden aufzuzeigen, oder um jemendem einen artikel zu bebildern oder einen wunsch zu erfullen. das versenden per mail halte ich fur den geringsten aufwand, viel besser als es erst in die wikimedia reinzustopfen und dann wieder zu loschen, oder sinnlos dort rumstehen zu lassen. aber dazu darfst du gerne eine andere meinung haben! -- sarang♥사랑 05:23, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ich weiss auch nicht, aber irgendwie gab sich für mich nie der einstieg zu den kategorien - dass mich jemand aufgefordert hätte etwas mit ihnen zu machen oder eine not entstanden wäre dass ich etwas damit hätte tun müssen

zudem stelle ich fest, dass für die arbeit mit kategorien sehr oft fachwissen erforderlich ist - dass man wissen muss um welche bereiche es geht, und welche nicht, und welche anderen es noch gibt

Du arbeitest mit kategorisierung sobald du Igen verwendest. die verschiedenen "topics" (map, logo, flag, coa, icon....) verwendest du ja eher nicht, ist dir vielleicht zu kompliziert? damit wird subkategorisiert, und ich habe dafur gewaltige kategorienbaume angelegt - rauf, runter und quer. und manchmal fehlt noch eine kategorie fur die es bisher keine datei gab; dazu mussen dann alle uber-, unter- und querverweise eingerichtet werden. ist also reichlich kompliziert! -- sarang♥사랑 17:46, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect image[edit]

Hi, you updated the image Greedy colourings.svg twice this month, but both images you uploaded have incorrect coloring. Can you either revert to the original or fix your version? The mistake is quite jarring, because the image is about graph coloring! I'm not familiar with wikipedia editing tools, so I won't do it myself and I'm asking you. Error in file File:Teilgraphenbeziehungen.svg[edit]

Hi, you updated the file recently but it seems that the new version lacks some edges on graph G (edges between 1 and 2 and between 4 and 5). This is quite annoying because without those edges, the other graphs G1, G2 and G3 are no longer sub-graphs of G, which is the point of the figure. Could you please check this and update the file ? Willst du das machen?[edit]

Hallo, im Gegensatz zu mir kannst du auch Inkscape, und bist auch in scour/omg/.. versiert. Wir haben da einen Japaner, der hat uber 200 FAKE SVG erstellt (weil er es noch nicht besser weiss). Ich habe ihm schon auf die Finger geklopft, und er lasst es nun bleiben; aber was er braucht ist eine Hilfe was er denn tun muss um richtige Inkscape SVG zu bauen. Mit hand-SVG wurde ich ihn verschonen, zumindest die ersten paar Jahre.
Wenn du dir das antun willst, nimm Kontakt mit ihm auf und vervollstandige seine Inkscape- und SVG-Kenntnisse. Er scheint weder dumm noch boswillig zu sein, so dass diese Investition lohnend sein durfte. @Sarang: danke für die info - wie ich schon angedeutet bei der frage nach multilang auf deiner diskpage, geht es mir bei multilangfiles weniger darum den code zu optimieren - ich bin nicht sicher ob ich glrx richtig verstanden habe (spricht er/sie deutsch? liest er/sie immer mit auf deiner seite?) - aber mir wäre es wichtiger ein einheitliches system für multi-lang-files zu etablieren, um auch letzendlich tools einen besseren zugang zu diesen files zu ermöglichen - zb. finde ich den vorschlag gut, bei mehrzeiligen textelementen, jede zeile (auch mit x und y=0) in ein tspan zu packen - das habe ich jetzt auch nicht gemacht - werde ich aber in zukunft so machen denken ich - bei einsprachigen files ohne switches bin ich bei dir und würde deinem vorschlag zustimmen

wie Glrx von sich sagt versteht er deutsch, schreibt aber lieber in englisch. gelegentlich guckt er auf meine talk page und korrigiert meine aussagen.

du musst keine sinnlosen tspan setzen, das tool fugt sie uberall ein - ist ihm egal ob vorher welche waren oder nicht. ich hab ein script um sie wieder zu entfernen; dann setze ich die vorlage "noinkscape|+" damit sie nicht beim nachstenmal wieder eingefugt werden.

wie magog sagt leide ich an der personlichkeitsstorung OCD, d.h. wenn ich mit weniger als 50 KB genau dasselbe machen kann wie mit wirkungslosen anweisungen und deshalb 85 KB, dann ziehe ich von beiden die variante vor, deren code ich leichter lesen kann. aber naturlich hat jeder das recht, das anders zu sehen, und code nach seinem gutdunken zu formatieren.

ich hab BMI grid.svg erstellt, der source code ist auf File talk:BMI grid.svg gelistet. nur so aus neugier habe ich mal den toolforge editor rangelassen, der macht aus 15 KB gleich 25 KB, auch ohne jede eigentliche anderung. du hattest sicher vieles anders gemacht, das kann ja jeder halten wie er will. es war einige arbeit all die texte zusammenzusuchen aus 25 einzeldateien, mehr as 20 stunden hab ich dazu gebraucht. und es ist noch ohne wichtige sprachen wie russisch, japanisch und alle baltischen, sud- und sudosteuropaischen sprachen.
da du gelegentlich auch so was machst (trotz der vielen arbeit, die das erfordert) kann uberlegt werden ob da was dokumentiert werden sollte, zusatzlich zu SVG simplification by text switch ? -- sarang♥사랑 14:31, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Sarang: ich prüfe alle ja, weil es dann doch files gibt, zu denen zwar svg-inhalt erstellt wurde, er aber nicht übereinstimmt - manche user reagieren da zu recht empfindlich - ich ersetzte die files dann auch alle global - aufgefallen ist mir Pixelsquid mit seinen/ihren herausragenden svgs - ist mir schleierhaft wie man so guten content nur in einem wiki einsetzt - ich werde mir seine/ihre files ersetzungstechnisch im nachgang vornehmen, aufgefallen ist er/sie mir nur weil er/sie eben öfter vergessen hat {{svg}} zu entfernen - gibts eigtl keine möglichkeit solche user auszuzeichnen, mit mehr als einem eintrag auf seiner diskpage? nicht zuletzt aus dem grund um getriggert zu werden wenn qualitätscontent entsteht --Mrmw (talk) 15:52, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You are continually replacing bitmap extensions with an SVG extension in the wrong context and when the SVG is already in the list. See, for example,

damit weiss ich nichts anzufangen und konnte auch wirklich nichts dazu finden - weisst du darüber was?

v. einfugen: ich hab da nichts bei mir eingerichtet. mit Information mache ich es so, dass ich etwas zum reinkopieren selbst vorbereitet habe, mit den haufigsten parameterwerten (source=own, user=Sarang, ..) in der 'richtigen' reihenfolge und gleich mit PD-self. wie bekomme ich diese werte in das GUI?

@Sarang: Abzustimmen dafür ist glaub ich recht sinnlos, da meines Wissens nur die mit den meisten Supports beachtet werden, siehe meta:Community_Wishlist_Survey/FAQ/de#Wie_gewählt_wird. Insofern ist eine Simme hier abzugehen ein Symbolische Zeichen ohne Mehrwert. So als Vergleich:

Wenn man sich meta:Community_Wishlist_Survey/de#past-projects anschaut, werden pro Jahr 5 bis 10 Whises erfüllt, insofern alles unter 50Stimmen halte ich für ausgeschlossen, man braucht ca. 100 Stimmen um es in die Top 10 zu schaffen. meta:Community_Wishlist_Survey_2022/Multimedia_and_Commons#Improve_SVG_rendering ist vermutlich das einzige in Multimedia und Commons was es in die Top10 schaffen könnte, ob es Platz 11 oder Platz 200 ist, ist egal. Selbst wenn es in die Top10 schaffen würde, könntes es schlimmstenfalls wegen nicht Umsetzbarkeit herausfliegen würde und ein anderes Projekt rutscht nach.

My fear is the SVG rendering proposal is out of scope for the Community Tech team. IIRC, they have turned down proposals in the past because they do not work on the MediaWiki core. Yes, WMF has had abundant funding for several years now, but WMF does not have a clear idea of what it should do with those funds. I've been surprised by questionable projects, strange hires, and bizarre management practices. The meta:Leadership Development Task Force shows that others question WMF leadership, but a task force without power is pointless. Gilles (Thumbor) retired and has not been replaced. a heads up[edit]

You prepared File:Suppdoc1l.svg from File:Suppdoc1l.jpg. User:GRID-Arendal uploaded 10 images over 3 days, in July 2010. They applied Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported licenses to all those images. I challended the license on File:Mackenzie River Delta.png. A couple of these images are from US Federal agencies. Their licenses should be changed to some version of {{PD-USGov}}.

I am going to list their other images at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mackenzie River Delta.png. I am afraid that would imply deleting File:Suppdoc1l.svg as well. Sorry. Geo Swan (talk) 03:00, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm Maria, the Online Marketing Manager at Oeko-Tex. Fantastic! Thank you so much for your help. The old-new logo match for each of our certificates is quite simple & we'd appreciate if you could do it too.

- You can replace Made in Green, Standard 100, STeP, Leather Standard and Eco Passport with the new logos you attached below.

- The Detox to Zero and MyStep can be permanantly removed. These services have been integrated into the likewise certificates.

- Responsible Business is our newest product for tracking due diligence at companies (I think it's great! I hope many brands will use it for more transparency) and we need to update the Wiki information first. It's not mentioned in the current article.

I'd like to analyse the whole content of our current article and made some necessary updates if needed. This won't be before February/March I guess since our workload is huge right now. This is just for your information.

Thanks for the info and sorry for not getting back to you any sooner. I've only just realized I can't remove the other two logos. This function has been blocked for some reason. I guess it's because there hasn't been any activity in the past few months due to the lack of ressources in our team. I'll contact the editor who blocked us and try to get it undone.

Hallo, Ihre Antibiotika-Grafik benötigt ein paar Korrekturen. So muss u.a. im Deutschen "Glykopetide" zu "Glykopeptide" werden, und auch die englischen Beschriftungen bedürfen der Überarbeitung, wo ebengenannte Wirkstoffe dann "Glycopeptides" mit "c" heißen müssten, und auch bei anderen das "k" zu "c" werden sollte, weil man's sonst in der englischen Wikipedia nicht findet. License of SVG Cycling Jerseys[edit]

Yours is a special case. You did credit User:Maillotero~commonswiki, and kept his PD. However, his image did not credit mine, and did not keep the CC-BY-SA licence. I asked him to change this. However, as he is blocked, he is likely to not reply, and I will change the licences if he doesn't respond in due time (after community discussion).

Could you make changes to the image you uploaded? You can do this very simply by adding the following lines to the icons you originally created (and removing the current license template line)

@Cmglee: for multilangfiles you should follow some rules

each text should be defined for all languages, if text is same for some languages group them: systemLanguage="en,es,de"
there should be a standard-text as fallback without systemlanguages (not for display en)
also 'en' should be defined as separate language
each text should be wrapped in a 'tspan', also single text elements
you shouldnt nest transform-elements (like line 69 and 70)

A tspan is not needed in a text element. (SVG Translate uses tspan elements and does not want mixed #text nodes and tspan elements. SVG Translate also gives up when it finds a tspan within a tspan.)

It is OK to nest g elements with transforms. It makes sense to do that for tables: an outer transform can be the row, and an inner transform can be the column.

If there's already a fallback, why must elements that not change still be defined for all languages? A good example is File:Phase_diagram_of_water.svg: most languages use "Pa" as the symbol for en:pascal (unit) but Russian uses "Па". Wouldn't it suffice to add an override for Russian and let other languages fall back? Moreover, text that does not need translation, such as numbers, can all just use the fallback.

@Cmglee: An explicit en is needed to make preferences work as expected. My browser language preferences are set to prefer English (en-US;1.0,en;0.9) but accept German when English is not available (de;0.8). If there is an explicit en in the SVG, then I will get the English text. However, if English is just the default but there is a de clause, then I will get German text despite English existing in the default. The SVG agent has no clue what the default language is. When I open File:Prisoners dilemma.svg in my browser, it displays German. (BTW, SVG Translate always makes this mistake; it should copy the default clause into an explicit language.).

Fun and games with units:

Numbers are complicated. If the translations are all Western European, then small integers do not need to be translated. It gets ugly when the numbers are large or have decimals. American 12,345.67 versus British 12.345,67. Italian is worse when the numbers are larger. Then we get into problems with other scripts: Persian numbers use different characters. Several scripting languages offer methods to format numbers. For example, Javascript has the Intl object.

British English generally uses 12,345.67 like in US English, though may use 12 345.67 in scientific contexts. Dates are a better example.

In my opinion, the risk of translations going out of sync may not be worthwhile handling such small differences, though, as there is variance even within one language e.g. "pop" vs "soda". Yes, keeping the text in sync is a problem, but it can exist across all the languages. Consider a town changing its name. A multilingual map should change not only the English name but also all the other transliterations.

I've seen switch elements that try to force synchronization to the default clause. The English clause is

<use systemLanguage="en" xlink:href="#defaultclause"/>

That is a clever trick, but it would confuse or complicate most tools. For example, it is no longer trivial to localize the SVG by just keeping the English clauses.

A more common method of managing translated images uses one skeleton file and several sets of language strings. To make a complete image, the skeleton file is fleshed out with, for example, the set of English strings.

For File:2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.svg, the default clause is an ISO Date (e.g., 2022-02-24). I have some Javasript to enforce that the date string in a systemLanguage clause matches the ISO date.

Please do not employ the switch/use hack. It is too clever by half, and it will confuse tools. I want simple XSLT scripts to transform switch-translated SVG to XLIFF files. It also may not accomplish what you want. An Inkscape user may delete the clone and replace it with text that does not match the default. A better method is to scan switch elements and make sure that the en clause matches the default clause.

I appreciate clever tricks and idioms, but I'd rather use clearer code. For example, Prisoner's dilemma also uses

<circle cx="0" cy="0" r="99999" fill="#ffffff"/>

I prefer

<rect x="-70" y="-90" width="100%" height="100%" fill="#ffffff"/>

It is even cleaner when the offsets are zero.

The JavaScript I use for File:2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.svg is external. I sometimes include a simple hit detection script in SVG (onclick=...). When I upload the file to Commons, then I rename the attribute to something safe such as data-onclick. That hit detector is in 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.svg.

@Mrmw: I noticed that I wanted to make a minimal (not) working example, to locate the bug, which I now did: see history of File:Test.svg. Today I decided to return my mentor-ship in de-wp, due to inactivity, since I have to reduce my work-load. The problem of the file was that it contained filter="url(#h)", however there did not exist such a filter. @Glrx: Do you know the specifications, if a path contains a filter that is undefined, should the path be removed or rendered without filter?

@Mrmw and Jarry1250: The difference between the rendering of commons and svgcheck might be that commons has some kind of security-layer/settings that blocks/removes problematic code, such as filters that are not in the file. (This settings are not present in https://svgcheck.toolforge.org/ .)

SVG 1.1 did not specify what should happen, so implementors could do whatever they wanted.

I would rather see the SVG agent raise an exception so the whole world knows there is a problem with the SVG file.
