Edit Map[edit]

Hi there,

Can you edit the map File:Arabic alphabet world distribution - three shades.png and add Dobrujan Tatar (Romania)? Dobrujan Tatar uses also Arabic script and the language it's recognised in Romania. Zolgoyo (talk) 21:11, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it qualifies. I don't see anything about Arabic script being official at the provincial level etc. Kwamikagami (talk) 21:29, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The language has officially recognisation by the parliament. I can may show you some books in Arabic script printed in Constanţa, Romania: Tan yildizi, Metreli kaytarmalar, Hayatka baksisim. Zolgoyo (talk) 21:58, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But that doesn't mean the Arabic script has any official recognition. Lots of countries recognize the existence of minority languages, and some of those languages may sometimes be written in Arabic script, but we don't shade in all of those countries. Ok Zolgoyo (talk) 13:51, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is something to bring up for discussion, perhaps. I count 2 dozen countries with languages that sometimes use Arabic script that we don't show on the map. Swahili in Tanzania, for example. But again, no official recognition AFAICT. If we change the criteria, we'd want to treat all countries equally. I think it might just be much easier to be consistent if we restrict ourselves to official recognition; otherwise there are probably a number of countries that we could argue about without any certain resolution. Can you update File ? Country Estonia should be marked darkblue and neighbour country Latvia should be marked blue.

Comes into effect on 1 January 2024: Same-sex marriage in Estonia[edit]

In Estonia same-sex marriage is by parliament allowed in 2023. Estonia must be coloured in dark blue.

Civil union in Latvia[edit]

In Latvia same-sex union is by parliament in November 2023 allowed. Latvia must be coloured in light blue.

I'm surprised no-one did Estonia at local midnight. Done.
Latvia's law doesn't come into effect until the middle of the year, according to your source. I don't see a date. Please let me know when it happens, if no-one else updates the map. Kwamikagami (talk) 21:28, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, it's july 1. Kwamikagami (talk) 21:44, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Decriminalization of homosexuality by country or territory (remastered).svg[edit]

Hi Kwamikagami, can you please update Russia on this map to red as according to what is cited on en:LGBT rights in Russia#Summary table, Russia has criminalised same-sex sexual activity since November 2023. Helper201 (talk) 13:17, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

By "illegal", we mean against the law, which it isn't in Russia. Etra-judicial killings don't count. Kwamikagami (talk) 13:20, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The page did explicitly state that same-sex sexual activity is illegal in Russia. However I've changed this on the en:LGBT rights in Russia page now as I couldn't find any source explicitly saying that same-sex sexual activity between consenting adults in Russia in private is in any way illegal (just the "promotion" of LGBT). This may or may not still be the case on that page by the time you read this. Helper201 (talk) 19:25, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't found anything that changed recently apart from making the "anti-propaganda" laws more draconian. Interesting diff between Ru and China: in China, the law is a weapon against activists, but AFAICT isn't being used for state propaganda as it is in Ru. Kwamikagami (talk) 19:33, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have not been doing well recently, but I wish to advise that since last year, I have converted World laws pertaining to homosexual relationships and expression.svg to a text editable format, which means that you should now use a text editor, like TextEdit, Notepad++ or Adobe Dreamweaver, instead of Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape to update the map. Some awareness of how CSS works is required.

If you need help to add subnational territories like the Houthi-controlled part of Yemen to a Inkscape-free SVG, then you should ask Commons:Graphic Lab/Map workshop, mentioning that the map is now text-editable like BlankMap-World.svg. Best, --Minoa (talk) 04:02, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's all been handled now. Kwamikagami (talk) 21:43, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to disturb you, but how are we going to help user Robsalerno adjust to the text-editable era of the World laws pertaining to homosexual relationships and expression map? Because the user just used Inkscape again and unintentionally undid the new category for the ongoing repression against LGBT people in Russia. --Minoa (talk) 05:33, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
IMO it's more important to have this info made available than it is for the map to be formatted properly, so I wouldn't want to discourage them from contributing. They're editing in good faith and may not have the time to learn. You could try explaining it to them, but that may not be worth your time. They're not being disruptive. If you don't have time to incorporate their changes into a good version of the map, I'd just revert them until you do, or ask someone like me to do it. Kwamikagami (talk) 06:00, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't used Dreamweaver in ages. I should look into it again, if there's a Linux version available, as I'm using Inkscape myself. Kwamikagami (talk) 06:02, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Parejas del mismo sexo en la UE.svg[edit]

Hi. Could you upload a new version of this file with Greece in drak blue? Someone deleted the picture from the Wikipedia page because it is not up to date anymore, but the new one is not completely correct. I tried to do it myself but I cannot. It shouldn't take more than a few seconds. Thank you. 2A00:1E:8700:EE01:3106:5BB6:AED0:B817 09:13, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing. Also updated Latvia (won't be med blue till july). Kwamikagami (talk) 21:41, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
