It was the picture that should be deleted, with reasons provided in the deletion request page.--Johnson.Xia (talk) 04:44, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Additional reason: Pan Am has been serving commercial flights from US to USSR, which started in 1968 (source, until 1978 (source).--Johnson.Xia (talk) 04:53, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Johnson.Xia - Well, I've closed over 1,000 files for deletion over the past week, so I was bound to miss something. Besides, the deletion discussion linked to the talk page, which is rare. I see that map is used on a lot of project pages. If I get backlash for the response, I am going to ask you to chime in. Despite many of these deletion requests sitting around for weeks and weeks, people often only freak out after they see the image was deleted. Cheers. Missvain (talk) 14:49, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why was this talk page deleted? I thought there was an ongoing discussion there, or that someone raised concerns about the accuracy of the file there? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 05:21, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus - Because the talk page was listed for deletion originally. Do you need it undeleted? Missvain (talk) 15:20, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. For now can you kindly link me to the deletion request for it? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 11:24, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Files: Gonzales-Toledo, Eduardo (2). jpg and File: Dr.González Toledo, MD, PhD. jpg[edit]

Dear Missvain, I understud the terms that Wikicommons need for a free licence and the permissions I´ve sent to Wikicommons is not enough. My father is in the middle of his retreat and he will return definitly to my country in one month. He can´t ask again to the press to the Hospital ahd School of Medicine of LSU to asked the photographer to search the picture that he did many years ago. As I said, LSU give to my father as a gift his own photography. As a photographer I understand and I glad that Wikicommons take so serious the copyright so I will do myself a picture of my father when he return to my country, Argentina. So delete these files. Thank you for explain it Yours Sincerely--Pentesilea1012 (talk) 14:02, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The one that escaped[edit]

Thank you for getting rid of the fictitous flags at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by blocked User:Sofaera888 – first batch. It seems, however, that there has been a glitch, where one of the files has escaped being deleted: File:Flag of the Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace.png. Regards! --TU-nor (talk) 09:13, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted! Thanks TU-nor. Sometimes I miss one when doing a batch. :) Missvain (talk) 18:44, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, there. Thanks for closing that DR. There’s one remaining file that didn’t get deleted, File:Ras Tafari, Prince Regent of Ethiopia (Emperor Haile Selassie I) with the Duke of York (later King George VI) on a visit to London', 1924. From Our King & Queen and the Royal Princesses.jpg. Cheers. —Rrburke (talk) 13:31, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion (Commons:Deletion requests/File talk:Verbreitungsgebiet der deutschen Sprache.PNG)[edit]

Hello, I noticed the File:Verbreitungsgebiet der deutschen Sprache.PNG[1] map is still up only the talk page has been deleted. --E-960 (talk) 15:42, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

E-960 - Yes, when the talk page is what is linked sometimes that gets deleted. It appears that was the case, the file wasn't actually linked in the deletion discussion. Sorry about that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention! Missvain (talk) 18:45, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: Any claims to public domain status as a U.S. government work - which are facially dubious because teleconferencing with school children is not an official duty of a federal representative - do not extend to the webcam videos of the people in this video. Kirkpatrick may have taken the screenshot, but each of the teleconference participants holds copyright over their own webcam footage.

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: Kirkpatrick states at the beginning of the video that she was "working from home" when it was taken. Therefore, this video was likely captured by a member of her household, who would hold copyright over the video. Unless she has a federal employee working within her home - which seems unlikely - this video cannot possibly be a U.S. government work.

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Is there any policy on not using Commons for self-propaganda?[edit]

Hi! Please have a look at this user. They have uploaded pictures of themself which are not being used on any of the wikipedia sister projects. I have nominated some of them for deletion but don't think this is an effective way to deal with this. Is there any policy on not using Commons for self-propaganda? 117.192.146.114 12:58, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

117.192.146.114 - Feel free to nominate any images that concern you for deletion please. You can find project scope information to cite as rationale for deletion at Commons:Project scope. Missvain (talk) 15:45, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted per nomination???[edit]

You closed Commons:Deletion requests/File:Desembarco (2021).jpg as "Deleted: per nomination". I don't understand. The file was initially tagged as "Speedy (selfie)" and the image was clearly not a selfie. The nomination by me (where I dispute4d the speedy) cited a discussion criticising the deletion of such files. Where is the nomination you agreed with in your decision? –LPfi (talk) 15:09, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

LPfi - It's promotional photograph of a band whose own Wikipedia article was deleted. For me, this violates COM:HOST and COM:ADVERT. Feel free to request an undeletion if you feel this image of a non-notable musical group merits inclusion on Commons. Missvain (talk) 15:47, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Neither COM:HOST nor COM:ADVERT were mentioned in the speedy nomination, nor in the RFD, so couldn't be refuted there. Closing as "per nomination" is thus moot.
There is nothing in our policy saying that a subject not being relevant for a Wikipedia article isn't relevant for us. We do want to document how non-notable music bands try to promote themselves. The reason for deleting the image would be that there are enough similar images. I don't know whether there are. I know I didn't find any, but then I didn't do an exhaustive search, and won't do one.
As the initial deletion nomination, the speedy, was ungrounded – this is not a selfie – I would have speedy kept it. If you know that we have an abundance of such images, leave it deleted, otherwise I hope you undelete it. I think I have done my part.

Category:Meybod or Nâïn (Iran) ceramics[edit]

Hi Missvain, I am very surprised that you deleted this category (same thing for Category:Borujerdis House and Category:Abbasian House). I would have been glad to know about this project of suppression before it was done. As far as I am concerned, I am in some way interested in Iranian ceramics and I think the first category is relevant.--Faqscl (talk) 13:41, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Faqscl - It actually wasn't deleted. It was redirect to Category:Ceramics of Iran in the Ariana museum (Geneva). The other categories are located at Category:Borujerdi House and Category:Abbasi House, so I have no clue what you are referring to about deletions. Missvain (talk) 14:43, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot for your answer. Ok for Borujderi House and Abbasi House. But I still don't undestand why the first one was deleted. I took the pictures in the Ariana musuem and some of them are not from Meybod or Nain ; so it's not the same category. Faithfully yours--Faqscl (talk) 15:39, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Undelete Stdi.jpg screenshot[edit]

Please cancel the deletion of Stdi.jpg screenshot, since it refers to a program distributed under a FREE LICENSE - this is indicated in the top line of the screenshot Stdi.jpg (in Russian). The same link to the free license is listed on the download site of this software http://statsoft.msu.ru/Podr2~1.htm (in Russian: "free version for self-study and work under a free license" with the clarification: "this license allows the user to freely distribute this version and all images obtained with it").

Therefore, I can freely use any screenshots of this software everywhere without any permission!!! AKU-47 (talk)

AKU-47 - Thank you! Please link me to the deletion discussion. Missvain (talk) 17:32, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Missvain. Screenshot was deleted corredctly, do not undelete it. Please note history of this file at nominators talk page. Permission to download and "freely distribute this version and all images obtained with it" does not allow to "Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially." as says free license cc-by-sa. This software is not truly free. --Drakosh (talk) 05:23, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Drakosh - I wanted to take a look at it before I even decided if it should be considered for undeletion. I would have most likely sent them to undeletion request. Thanks for the heads up. Missvain (talk) 05:33, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Missvain, has there been some consensus that this Flickr-bot, which was used to upload all these images, was unreliable? --Túrelio (talk) 19:09, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Túrelio - It's been over a week since the listing was opened. I closed it as a presumed delete due to concerns with the Flickr uploads. Better to be safe than sorry. If I misunderstood your desire to open that AfD I can reopen it. But, given no one engaged with the discussion for over a week I doubt we'll get more activity on it. It is rare that Commonists openly engage with deletions, let alone the longer they are listed. Missvain (talk) 19:11, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. However, this concerns a lot of uploads by established users, even admins, from the 200x years, when this bot was used. Though I never used it (even wasn't aware about), I'm rather sure that these uploads had a Commons-compatible license at time of upload. May be we should discuss this (the reliability of uploads by this bot) on COM:AN or VP to attract more input. --Túrelio (talk) 19:26, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Shoot for the Stars[edit]

Hi Missvain. Just a quick question abut Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Shoot for the Stars. I mentioned something about File:Chris Isaak 2017.png in the DR, but nobody ever responded. Anyway, that file was said to have been an extracted version of File:Hall And Oates with Chris Isaak - The O2 - Saturday 28th October 2017 HallOatesO2281017-26 (24446890518).jpg which seems to have be reviewed and verified as OK for Commons. I'm not sure I quite get how a file extracted from another file with an apparently acceptable license can be a copyvio, even if the uploader didn't extract it themselves. I must be missing something here, but I'm just not sure what it is. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:04, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Marchjuly - I suggest nominating any other offending (or possibly offending) files for deletion! Missvain (talk) 15:08, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The other file wasn't uploaded by Shoot for the Stars and its licensed was verified by FlickreviewR 2. The source provided for the photo does show that it's released under a {{CC-by-2.0}} license so it seems OK. That means the extracted version of the file should also be OK, shouldn't it? -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:50, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Marchjuly - got it. I restored the image. Please make sure it's all up to snuff with the licensing, sourcing, etc. Thanks. Missvain (talk) 14:49, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking another look at this Missvain. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:34, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

About "Deletion requests:Improved files/20210516"[edit]

I requested the submission of Commons:Deletion requests/Improved files/20210516. I submitted a deletion request for only the first-list 2files mentioned, but the other files presented for explanation have also been deleted. So, would you please restore files that isn't the first-list 2files?--Mario1257 (talk) 16:43, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:Royal Flag of HM Queen Suthida.svg[edit]

Hi. I missed the discussion at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Royal Flag of HM Queen Suthida.svg, which you closed as delete. The file appears to be linked as an SVG version of File:Queen Suthida flag 3.png Could you check if the deleted image matches the PNG file? If it does, I think it can be presumed to be a derivative of the PNG and restored with corrected authorship info. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:14, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Paul_012 - The file is gigantic and so big I can't even view it without downloading it. I'm not sure if it's the same. This also has incorrect licensing - this isn't the uploader's own work: File:Queen Suthida flag 3.png. I'm copying User:Taivo here since they nominated the image for deletion originally. Missvain (talk) 18:17, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'll delete last remaining contributions of Naphat Terakittipun (talk · contribs): 3 identical copies of the same file in different formats, all incorrectly claimed own work. Taivo (talk) 19:15, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I actually question a bit whether these images are even copyrightable at all, given that they consist of a very generic traditional depiction of the crown and the royal cypher, which is two stylized letters, but given the user's questionable contributions, deletion does seem the prudent option. --Paul_012 (talk) 06:11, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good morning.

The uploader gave what I believe to be a reasonable defense on that page, namely that he is the family member and this is a family photo. Would you reconsider your decision? I bring this up because the user has reuploaded the photos under a different name.

Thank you!Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 14:25, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Magog the Ogre - While I try to always assume good faith, for legal reasons I think it's best that you get COMMONS:OTRS from the uploader. If OTRS can be procured I'd be more likely to undelete at this time. Missvain (talk) 15:44, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK, but that's not really what OTRS is for. OTRS is for officially verifying works for which there is a strong likelihood of a ripoff (e.g., an artist's paintings, works from elsewhere online). In this case, the work was not available elsewhere on the internet and OTRS has no way of verifying familial ownership.
That's my opinion anyway as a former OTRS volunteer. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 16:02, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I came across that DR and I noticed that you decided to keep the files although the uploader recognised that it was a mistake from his part as the work is located indoors. Could you recheck this? Kind regards, -sasha- (talk) 08:24, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Missvain, thanks for closing the DR. In your closure you are writing “btw being "paid editing" is not a policy-based deletion rationale.” However, I never gave "paid editing" as a deletion rationale in my statements. I just pointed out that – in the context of paid editing – these photos are unlikely to be the uploader's own works. I can tell from my experience in the support team, that, most commonly, these pictures are provided by the paying subject to the paid editor. Hence, it is not just a possible out of scope issue as we have to take care of the copyright as well. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 15:22, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Strange, uneducational images[edit]

Hello. Thank you for deleting the three image I had nominated. I have nominated five more images from this user right now. It seems the user has a very heavy tendency to upload images whose names make them look educational, but once zoomed in are in fact bizarre and uneducational. From what I get, the user has his/her own wiki - as advertised in File:Norse cosmology.svg and the user's profile - and uses WCommons to host his/her creations related to this wiki. It might a good idea to look into the upload history of the user. Veverve (talk) 08:27, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Veverve - Very weird stuff. Make sure to provide them a warning and then if they don't stop. Alas, deletion requests don't really do the trick and we generally result to blocks as last resorts. If they don't stop, I'll give them a final warning and then proceed to block, if absolutely necessary. I'll let the files you nominated go through their week long Deletion Request process and take care of them. Thank you for your due diligence. Feel free to do one mass nomination for any files you find troublesome of theirs. That saves volunteers time in reviewing deletion requests. Missvain (talk) 16:48, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
User warned. I am very happy you do not recognise in those drawings the classic religious type of people who tend to work very hard to link every religion and other theories together in a strange mishmash; as for me I have spent too much time on the internet to ignore this archetype. Veverve (talk) 17:13, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a tool which would help me making a batch DR? The images concerned are File:Yggdrasil.png, File:Races of Norse cosmology.png, File:Navajo cosmology.png, File:Norse cosmology.tif, File:Jotnar.png, File:Navajo cosmology.svg, File:The 9 worlds of Norse cosmology.png, File:Norse cosmology.png (all those cosmologies are shown as a circle - why? -, are unsourced, and most have some syncretic elements inserted by the user); and File:Allotment of land to the 12 Tribes of Israel.svg (bloated, has the Roman god Janus in the Sea of Galilee; I did not look much into it).
File:World tree stretching from Heaven to Hell.png, File:Mouth of Tartarus.svg and File:Tartarus.svg seem acceptable to me.
The other images uploaded by the user as science related, so I do not have the skills to juge them. Veverve (talk) 09:39, 18 August 2021 (UTC) Images nominated. Veverve (talk) 10:03, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Tagooty -- deleted File:Spire Debre Libanos Monastery Ethiopia Oct19 D72 12188.jpg[edit]

Thank you for keeping two files of stained-glass windows. The file File:Spire Debre Libanos Monastery Ethiopia Oct19 D72 12188.jpg showing the spire was deleted. I learnt recently that the Debre Libanos Monastery was designed by architect Hector Corfiato who died in 1963. This is documented in his obituary in the Journal of the Royal Society of Arts. Hence, his copyright would have ended in 2013. Presuming that he designed the spire and cross, I request you to kindly reconsider the deletion of this file. --Tagooty (talk) 09:10, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

German standard varieties.png[edit]

Hello Missvain, I'm sorry about this, could I request that the following map is deleted File:German standard varieties.png [4], this is yet another duplicate of the original Postmann Michael map, it appears multiple copies were created, and in the description it says this copy is just a "retouched picture" of the original map created by Postmann Michael, who got banned for showing sympathies towards National Socialism (link). --E-960 (talk) 07:25, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Whose file is this originally E-960? I don't want to proceed until that is clarified since it looks like a few cooks (and a bot?) were in the kitchen for this. If you are indeed not, it might be ideal to go through DR. Missvain (talk) 20:54, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This file was set up by user Zoris Trömm~commonswiki (who was notified of the deletion request), it's an exact duplicate of the deleted Verbreitungsgebiet_der_deutschen_Sprache.PNG map by user Postmann Michael (cites it as source, and is the exact same file under a different name). The only difference is that it has an English language title and is a "retouched picture" (as stated in the description). I would have grouped it with the original deletion request, however it was in some other category and I just overlooked it. Since then, if you recall I found several versions/duplicates of the Postmann Michael map scattered through various categories on WikiCommons. Also, this was noted by User:Piotrus, who commented on this an other maps. Postmann Michael's maps (and the prolific clones of his maps) are a problematic case due to the fact the a large number of them were already deleted over time due to accuracy issues, and the fact that Postmann Michael's account was blocked due to some questionable view regarding Nazism quote: "POV from doubtful sources and trivializing National Socialism." - which is a very serious charge. --E-960 (talk) 05:37, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, the original Verbreitungsgebiet_der_deutschen_Sprache.PNG:, was open to discussion for over a month, and no one provided reliable sources to confirm the accuracy of that map. Again, my apologies for the confusion, since German standard varieties.png is the exact same image under a English file name, I should have included in in the same deletion request (and it would have been less irritating), I just overlooked it. --E-960 (talk) 06:34, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks E-960, all I needed was the DR. I'd also appreciate if folks would only ping me about speedy deletions. When I have personal capacity, I will go to review DRs, but, sometimes I don't, and I don't want to give any (except those that qualify for speedy) special privilege over others. Yes, there are many that last longer than seven days, but, most aren't urgent. Cheers. Missvain (talk) 16:50, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmation about your Carmel, Indiana photos[edit]

Hi Sarah, I'm Ryota Yashima a.k.a. Yassie (talk), who usually writes articles about U.S. cities onto Japanese Wikipedia.

I'd like to confirm one thing; Are these photos of Kawachinagano Japanese Garden, just to the south of Carmel City Hall in Carmel, Indiana?

Thanks in advance! Yassie (talk) 20:59, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yassie - No, these are at my friend Jaime's mother's house. It's a private residence. Missvain (talk) 20:54, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I happened upon this image and was kinda puzzled by your decision to not delete it. The argument for keeping it was to simply paste the text of an inapplicable template. Simple shapes and letters are not subject to copyright. But this text clearly passes a threshold of originality. If two people came to you, showed you a blue triangle, and both said "I created this", they might both be telling the truth - it simply isn't a creative work. But if two people both came to you with the text in this image and said, "I wrote this", one of them must be lying because they wouldn't independently come up with it. It's not exactly on point, but in a recent Supreme Court case w:Google LLC v. Oracle America, Inc., Google was found not to be infringing on Oracle's API patent because of fair use. But nobody anywhere questioned that the APIs are copyrighted. That would be the same case here - reprinting this manual is certainly "fair use", but we don't do that on Commons. --B (talk) 21:23, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello B - If you disagree with my rationale then I encourage you to renominate the image. No big deal to me and we'll let another admin review it for deletion. Cheers. Missvain (talk) 15:38, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

South African copyright[edit]

I see you closed Commons:Deletion requests/File:Bloukrans Bridge-001.jpg. Did you get any clarity on how local copyright law handles structures? A bridge is hardly a building, thus not an artistic work by the legal definition, and thus seems not covered by copyright. No clause was cited that would include structures, and you did not comment the issue when closing the request. Was the deletion due to an oversight caused by excessive workload? –LPfi (talk) 09:34, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

LPfi - Wow, that was in April and the comment about "excessive workload" is a bit trollish. Especially as one of the few people (literally like three of us) on this platform that handle deletions. Yes, the less than a handful of people who handle deletion requests make mistakes. And usually folks kindly ask us to undelete and we do.
Anyway, are you asking me to undelete the deletion? Please let me know. I see that other images exist of the bridge on Commons and I assume that the FOP argument is irrelevant at this point. I'm happy to do it for you. Missvain (talk) 18:30, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, and sorry if I expressed myself badly – I sincerely understand that you don't have time to read every request discussion thoroughly.
I see no reason to keep the file deleted, and if neither you do, then yes, please undelete it. I did not ask directly as I did not know whether there was some reason for deletion not obvious from your note.

Finnish banknotes[edit]

I see you deleted a bunch of Finnish banknotes per nomination in Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Banknotes of Finland. The nomination rationale was "Per COM:CUR Finland, currencies of Finland are copyrighted." That is a grave misinterpretation of the situation by A1Cafel who got editing restrictions in August because of sloppy deletion requests.

The linked page says, among other things:

[The design is part of an official decision] "Thus the images on markka banknotes and coins should be in the public domain"

The Bank of Finland does claim copyright on Finnish (i.e. markka) banknotes, but the legal ground seems shaky, to say the least. For the coins there is a statement from a legal body that seems to acknowledge their PD nature. I suppose the situation is similar for the markka banknotes, but IANAL.

I think we should not delete any of the banknote images, at least not without categorising the deletion requests so that we can resurrect them when we get clarity on the legal situation.

So, please undelete these.

Hitler photographs[edit]

Dear Missvain, Of course I respect your decision about the Hitler photographs (and I am glad that a decision was made, even if don't agree with the outcome -so thanks for that.) I also like the fact that we now know that this famous Hitler photograph was most likely made by Heinrich Hoffmann (see Bayerische Staatsbibliothek). I am sure that copyright of all Nazi publications and photographs was taken over by the allied forces after the war, and to my knowledge never returned to the original owners. See also EN-Wiki and refs. Copyright of Mein Kampf is a different story (though interesting): Mein Kampf. Copyright of the Dutch translation was seized by the Dutch government. I am not going to dispute your decision about these photographs or ask for undeletion at this moment, but could you please mark all deleted images containing that photo as Category:Undelete in 2028, as Hoffmann died in 1957? Vysotsky (talk) 20:14, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Vysotsky - Can you please link me to the deletion discussion or what page needs to be given this category? I've never been asked to do this before, so I assume it's not required to have an admin do. Feel free to take any deletion requests to Commons:Undeletion requests, of course (I won't participate in the discussion). Thanks. Missvain (talk) 21:40, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hoffmann 1, Hoffmann 2, Hoffmann 3. Thanks! Vysotsky (talk) 22:37, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. Looks like any editor, regardless of administer or not can do this. So, just future note - please be bold and perhaps consider adding the appropriate categorizes in the future. It looks like it was already done per Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Mein Kampf. Cheers. Missvain (talk) 22:51, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again. I would have loved to do it, but how do I add categories to files that are deleted and not visible anymore? Vysotsky (talk) 23:06, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Vysotsky - You just add it to the deletion discussion page. Per Category:Undelete in 2028: "You must either categorise the file's deletion request page in the usual way (as a deleted file will not show up in the category), or add the name of the file directly to the category page." - The deletion request was already tagged. :) Missvain (talk) 23:07, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Hrbaptista specifically: File:Placa prêmio Marta Rossetti Batista.jpg and File:Marta traço.jpg[edit]

Hi, saw the notice to delete and answered user User: IronGargoyle on Dec, 5th 2021 stating that the files were following the guidelines and there was no answer. The next thing I notice is that the files were deleted anyway.

For your convenience: the answer (originally in User talk:Hrbaptista):

Hi,
The files File:Placa prêmio Marta Rossetti Batista.jpg and File:Placa prêmio Marta Rossetti Batista.jpg are pictures of my own work of art. The drawing of the second (that is also appearing in the first) were done by me. I am the depicted son and only heir, therefore being the only one capable of authorizing the usage of my mother's image.
The File:Prêmio Jabuti 2007.jpg file is a depiction of the prize awarded to my mother (now in my possession). According to the article 48 of the Authorship Law in Brasil, the depiction of public statues (such as prizes) is allowed without prior authorization, provided that it is for informational purposes and that it does not produce financial benefits. The photo was taken by me, so the author of the picture is also in agreement with its publication in this page.
Cheers,
HB Hrbaptista (talk) 13:03, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

I don't know if it is customary to ignore a reply but it is not nice. Since you deleted the files (instead of IronGargoyle) I ask you to please respond to it.

Cheers.

I think you've made a mistake in closing this.

The PDF per the comment in the thread did have copyright notices in the scans for 4 issues. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 20:53, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It clearly isn't PD-US Gov work obviously, and the other issues earlier in the file are possibly no-notice (hence the license was updated from PD-US-Gov which was clearly incorrect.)

I renominated the PDF only on the basis of the comment about the 4 issues, only for someone to fail to seemingly not consider that the license tag might be in error, Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Cranberries;_-_the_national_cranberry_magazine_(IA_cranberriesnatio6668port).pdf (talk) 20:53, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/File:AtaturkSaglikRaporu.png[edit]

  • Hello Missvain. I am Justinianus, from Turkey. We saw a request recently, on that page. According to this request, this file was deleted because it was not an own work. But this work is public domain in Turkey because it was first published before +70 years. It was proofread at that page on trwikisource. According to Turkish laws, the works before published +70 years are PD. Also Template:PD-text can be considered as appropriate for this work. That would be great if we had a chance to reinstate this work. I'm looking forward for your response. Best regards, Justinianus (talk) 20:22, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Justinianus - I undeleted it. The concerns presented by the nominator were legit. As you'll see on the image page, it's incorrectly licensed and incorrectly claimed as "own work." So, hopefully someone can update it accordingly. If not, it could be nominated again due to these misunderstandings. Thanks. Missvain (talk) 20:34, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding to the deletion without reason[edit]

Please can you name the reason for deletion? In the moment in the german article Deckfarbkasten there is now a picture placed that there is no picture for this question to find. The Deckfarbasten is pedagoical tool for pupils, so the picture was for a long time in usage as an simple pedagoical example, to see which problems with such colors of such "Deckfarbkasten" exists. Can you please look in the german Wikipedia and can you please fix the problem, which have made by the erase. The erase qeustion of yawn was a copyright question, which was not given. Yawn thougt it would be painted by another person not be the uploader. This is readable. However. Look thereː https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deckfarbkasten and Thereː https://nds.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuschkasten Please give a precies reason for this ersase. On the rules of erase is also to read that a picture could only erased if it is not used in a language version of a wikipedia article or it could be placed by another picture of it in such language version. It could be another case, if this picture would not used such a long time in the German wikipedia for a "pedagogical" article. But it was used. However. Maybe you have not really read the entire text and looked on the usage in the wikipedia. ;-) Please the reason would be interesting, is it again the "confirmation by email"? which was the reason for delete request, which was not given. If, "yes" how I have written on the discussion page or you may write me what a confermation should be useful in this case. Thank you. --Sönke Rahn (talk) 23:32, 16 December 2021 (UTC) If you have questions to unterstand the problem. You may ask me. I have placed the problem there also againː https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:A_Copy_of_Van_Gogh%27s_Terrace_of_the_caf%C3%A9_on_the_Place_du_Forum_in_Arles_in_the_evening,_A_Watercolor_ink_painting_of_Soenke_Rahn_(schooldays_in_the_80s).JPG friendly greetings --Sönke Rahn (talk) 23:32, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sönke Rahn - I understand how frustrating it can be to have a file deleted. Including those you have created, it has happened to me before. However, I agree with User:Yann that permissions is a good idea - hence "per nomination" (honestly, on Commons, we get people claiming things are their own all the time - sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't). It's all in good faith. If you disagree, like my comment says when closing it out, you are welcome to request undeletion at Commons:Undeletion requests or send in COM:VRT and if accepted they will undelete it. Again, this is all in good faith for the sake of the project and respecting copyright, creativity, and education. Happy holidays. Missvain (talk) 23:53, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, maybe you have not understand it completly. I have made the picture (photo) of a painting I have painted. It is in usage in a pedagogical topic. It may be funny. Yes I got the best grade in the 1980s for this picture. But however, it was not a masterpiece. How should I prove it, that I have painted it. The picture lays on my mother's cupboard. I could make more pictures of it ??? May be a picture with an acutual newspaper. Should I signature it again under the picture? A signature is above to see. But, surely I will not change something on the picture because it's also an relict of my schooldays, a memory. Ok, however which informations would be important by such e-mail? I have never made such processs, because I placed never something which is not my own on the wikipedia, and in this case it is also mine. Sorry, this case is a little bit strange for me, I suppose you can undertand my view. ;-) --Sönke Rahn (talk) 00:07, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Like I said, you can either send permissions to COM:VRT or you can request it to be undeleted at Commons:Undeletion requests. Both pages have directions to walk you through it. Missvain (talk) 00:16, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will request you maybe again. Because, I am not sure. But, if I read it right, on the VRT-Page I can only ask under permissions-commons@wikimedia.org what they want in such case, because in gerneral the VRT-Page ask for permission if somebody will upload something, which is not his own. I will write that this picture was painted by me and ask what they want. Thanks first, for this answer. --Sönke Rahn (talk) 00:22, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hasty blocks and noms closed "for disruptive and offensive behavior"[edit]

Hello,

I see that you have blocked some of the IPs that I used in the past month to nominate some files for deletion, based on this discussion and the block of IP 223.255.225.69. I know that given that you are blocking my IPs for three months I should not intervene, but there is a mistake, so please let me explain.

The blocks are an error, since I am not the same as IP 223.255.225.69 (the IP location is completely different), who obviously copied the rationale from my early nominations. After I was advised to change the language of my nominations by Achim on 2 November, I changed the language accordingly, not nominating any other file for being a "child drawing". I also apologized and explained the reason of my nominations.

Therefore, I think that the block of my IPs and the automatic closing of all the nominations I made as "keepings", regardless of the rationale and votes, are mistakes detrimental to the quality of the website. Most of the nominations are of low quality files, duplicates, or inventions of users.--37.162.73.24 19:50, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Yann was the original admin who blocked your IP for 3 months. Then you stated that even during your block you would evade the block by using other IPs. I appreciate your apology, but, I also think it's inappropriate that you're intentionally evading block, and still nominating content in the same subject area for deletion. I'm also very confused - it sounds like you are denyign you are the user who was blocked for inappropriate behavior, but then you're saying you're the same person. I'm pinging Yann because if they think it's inappropriate that I blocked you (Again, evading and what is noted Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/Archive_87#IP_37.160.0.91_–_COM:CIVIL_and_UCoC_violations here) for the appropriate three months, then I"m happy to unblock, but, I find it appropriate to block. It remains disruptive for the time being to evade blocking by still nominating content for deletion. Missvain (talk) 20:06, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The IP blocked by Yann (223.255.225.69 who edited in September) was not me, but in November he copied and pasted the rationale from one of my earliest November noms, after I had already agreed with Achim and others that my language was too harsh. This message and the former one are the only edits that I have made since you began to block my IPs on 14 December -- I have saved the links of the IPs and noms, this is why I noticed the blocks --, and I will not edit further until the misunderstanding will be clarified or the blocks confirmed.--37.162.44.91 20:41, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding a request-[edit]

In my last comment here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:RM_band_recruits.jpg I asked Dvader2 about writing a request for a replacement photograph. That included asking where that request could go. Considering that they have not answered, what do you think? --Dreddmoto (talk) 19:01, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As my closing comment states: "We can always undelete if COM:VRT is provided and approved." If they can get permissions from the copyright holder to have this image freely licensed to be housed here, then we can undelete. But, at this point, I do not feel comfortable keeping the image on Commons any longer. It's been a month. Missvain (talk) 19:12, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Missvain I appreciate your reply but, that's not really what I was asking about.

Perhaps the best thing to do will be to write a request somewhere for a new photograph to replace the one that was deleted. Where do you think that request should be written? --Dreddmoto (talk) 22:39, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

About your notice to me on completed deletion requests[edit]

Hello Missvain! You've written here: "Next time, please be sure to post a deletion template on the file page. I noticed you haven't on any of these nominations." Recently, I've made new nomination of one TimedText file. And as usual, it was done via Nominate to delete button from the left collumn of Tools on Wikimedia Commons. You could see the deletion nomination code template on the TimedText, even if it's not rendering as usual on other namespaces. Would you mind to explain what exactly I need to post on the file page and which one? Thanks a lot in advance! Pacha Tchernof (talk) 22:22, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Pacha Tchernof - Yes, please use this template and also be sure to let make sure the original file uploader knows their file is up for deletion. Thanks! Not sure why it the nomination tool isn't putting it on the file page! Missvain (talk) 17:06, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Missvain, thanks for the details! Probably, once or twice I used {{tl|Speedydelete}} template by myself and this could be the reason why the uploader wasn't notified about the nomination. I'll fix it in my further manually made nominations! Thanks a lot for pointing me it out! Just to confirm on the example of the mentionned nomination above, Nominate to delete button do notify the uploader of the original file about the nomination automatically. Please have exceptionally great holydays! All the best, Pacha Tchernof (talk) 11:46, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Re: the deletion of my file[edit]

Hi, you recently deleted one of my uploads. I am sure that you did so for the correct and proper reason but I am still stumped on what the actual policy reason was. You described it as a "personal image". But I cannot find any reference to personal images in the deletion policy or the scope. My understanding of the scope was that anything that was "realistically useful for an educational purpose" was allowed, which I think my image was for the reasons I stated in the discussion. Furthermore, I cannot see how it is a personal image other that it is of a world of my own design which is necessary for any fantasy map uploaded to Wikimedia Commons or otherwise it would be a copyright violation.

I would be happy if you could clarify this to me, especially as I do not see how I can responsibly contribute to Wikimedia Commons if I do not understand what content is permitted. ~ El D. (talk to me) 00:17, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@El komodos drago - What file was it? Thanks. Missvain (talk) 17:07, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
File:Map of Gaia.jpg. The discussion is at Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Map_of_Gaia.jpg#File:Map_of_Gaia.jpg. It's just my experience of content uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and the standards that have been applied to my art work seem to differ substantially which has left me confused as to what is permitted. ~ El D. (talk to me) 17:51, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
El komodos drago - The case presented by User:Enyavar is why - the quality of the image, another fantasy map. Don't take it personally. We really don't want folks uploading personal images - graphics, artwork, maps - especially for non-existent places or places/things that are not notable. Also, take a look at COMMONS:SCOPE for a general overview. Thanks and I hope you'll find other ways to contribute to the project! Missvain (talk) 19:36, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I do not see how this is a personal image besides the fact that I made it. If the uploader making an image being the creator is a problem then as I have said it would be impossible to legally upload any fantasy maps. I know its no modern day Da Vinci but I didn't know that's what Commons required - all I understood was not too low res, and not blurry (it was neither, it was made with a high quality scanner).
I have come to hate contributing to Wikimedia projects. I have been repeatedly insulted, and I find that 50% of edits are reverted. I have found the community utterly unsupportive and frankly I regret ever starting to contribute. I think that this may well be the straw that broke the camel's back and finally persuaded me that it isn't worth contributing. For that I thank you, it has been a demotivating waste of time and I will probably be happier when I get to call it quits. ~ El D. (talk to me) 21:10, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question about FOP outside USA and the year of dead of the artist[edit]

Dear Missvain, on Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Murals by Arturo García Bustos you wrote that despite "interior murals are covered by WP:FOP" (of Mexico? the link is red) the pictures should though be removed because "these artworks are NOT public domain in the United States yet due to the painter's death". I do not understand. There are thousands of pictures of sculptures and other artworks in Commons covered by FOP in the countries the pictures were taken, but of whom the artists are not dead or not dead for at least 70 years. I always thought that if FOP applies to artworks in the home country, it is OK to publish photos of them in Commons, no matter of copyrights in the USA. Can you inform me? --JopkeB (talk) 04:43, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. I process hundreds of deletion requests each week and sometimes have errors or make the occasional mis-evaluation. However, this seems like a weird case and I'm of the "Better to be safe than sorry school." The link should go to COM:FOP - I also edit Wikipedia so I made an error linking to a non-existent WP:FOP link, sorry. I fixed it. Anyway, I believe that the files you nominated are of concern and should not be housed on Commons at this time unless the uploader wants to provide VRT. Missvain (talk) 17:10, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, ofcoarse you make occsional mis-avaluations, that is only human. I do not blame you. You do a lot of good work here. I am glad that FOP outside the USA is not limited by USA copyright law. And I agree with you that the nominated files should be deleted as long as there is no VRT ticket, or (my addition) untill there is proof that FOP Mexico indeed also applies to to interiors of museums and palaces, that they indeed are considered to be public places. --JopkeB (talk) 12:06, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Was that file supposed to be deleted as per your closure of Commons:Deletion requests/Files of User:Sunkissedguy#Files of User:Sunkissedguy 2 or was that just an oversight? JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 01:53, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:JWilz12345 - Just an oversight. I closed a lot of nomination today so no surprise I missed one! Thanks. Missvain (talk) 03:26, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dhondutai Kulkarni images[edit]

You closed this discussion and deleted File:Dhondutai Kulkarni.jpg, but not File:Dhondutai Kulkarni.png. Is the latter a different conclusion than the other? Fourthords | =Λ= | 07:07, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, @Fourthords - I just missed it in the nomination. Sometimes when people nominate files after they already nominated their initial file it can get lost in the clutter. In the future, you can help reviewers (which lately seems like I am the only one) by using bullet points to list the files for nomination. Thank you. Sorry for the oversight. I have deleted it. Missvain (talk) 15:48, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks & a question[edit]

Hi Missvain, thanks for the good work reviewing the tons of deletion requests!! Also I have a question: I noticed you closed Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Vishal rozario as deleted but it appears you only deleted one of the two nominated files. Just wanted to know if that was on purpose, or an oversight. Njd-de (talk) 22:08, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed! Sorry about that and thanks @Njd-de for bringing it to my attention. THanks for the kind words, too! I really appreciate that (it's not the most pleasant volunteer task, lol!). Missvain (talk) 22:29, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Are you able to offer direct assistance to the uploading editor, please. They claim ownership but the OTRS process may bewilder them Timtrent (talk) 22:14, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Timtrent - Hmmm...Looks like you've already offered it - by contacting COM:VRT. There are instructions there. I'm not a VRTS volunteer anymore, so I can't really assist much more than that... I think it's rather simplified in the instructions. Missvain (talk) 22:30, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect they would just benefit from simple reassurance by someone who is not me Timtrent (talk) 22:31, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you know the answer to this[edit]

What about "pictures within a photograph" as far as copyright goes?

If you don't know the answer, perhaps you could point me in the right direction. Thanks, Krok6kola (talk) 20:34, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Krok6kola - I suggest the "copyrighted photos" in the corner get cropped out. They are notable people - all actresses that have Wikipedia articles. Missvain (talk) 20:59, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Downtown Indianapolis category[edit]

Re: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File%3ADowntown_Indianapolis%2C_1904.jpg&type=revision&diff=618048112&oldid=485422462 Meridian Street is 20 miles long, with most of it not being in downtown Indianapolis. Why did you remove the category? —Justin (koavf)TCM 23:23, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Koavf - I know. I used to work on Meridian Street and my parents owned a building on Meridian Street, in fact. The reason is because Category:Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument (Indianapolis) is already categorized on under Meridian Street and Downtown Indianapolis. I don't think there is a need to get redundant when the monument is clearly the focus of the photograph. Missvain (talk) 23:25, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I just removed files that are categorized as Downtown Indianapolis and also Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument. Good thinking. Happy 2022! —Justin (koavf)TCM 23:26, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:Heutige deutsche Mundarten.PNG[edit]

Hello Missvain, could I request a close to the Commons:Deletion requests/File:Heutige deutsche Mundarten.PN[11]. I set up another formal request to delete, as I found yet another duplicate copy of the highly questionable maps showing the purported distribution of the German language/dialects in central Europe created by Postmann Michael, who if you recall from past cases, was banned for: "01:28, 25. Mai 2006 Elian (Diskussion |Beiträge) blocked Postman Michael contributions for an unlimited period of time (POV from dubious sources, trivialization of National Socialism. Harms Wikipedia.)" (link). --E-960 (talk) 11:03, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

E-960 - Not until the full week is up. Deletion requests must run for seven days unless they qualify for speedy. And blocked users uploads don't qualify for speedy. Please note the post on the top of my talk page - folks need to let requests go for a week for full discussion. I prefer people to let the process proceed accordingly versus pinging me on my talk page to close nominations. Thanks for your understanding. Missvain (talk) 15:43, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I overlooked that point, sorry about that. --E-960 (talk) 16:00, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Missvain, just a quick follow up on the closure request, as today marks the seven day review period. I'm really concerned about the spread of these questionable maps, especially that the various copies/versions were spread across or moved over various Germany related categories on the Commons. That's why I keep running in to these Postmann Michael maps and was not able to submit a request for all at the same time. --E-960 (talk) 12:10, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Is there a problem?[edit]

Greetings, please see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Frente_escuela_1915.jpg When we nominate for deletion, a notice goes to the uploader. My requests on deletion nominations are not to the administrator, but to the uploader - unless I clearly state "Closing administrator please..." I am a little surprised at the ordering tone in some of the recent closes. We do try to work with the uploaders, it's not just an admin to admin situation. If you are feeling overworked, do step back. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 00:37, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:Ellin Beltz - No problems here. I'm great. When you review hundreds of deletion request pleasantries get a little old. I often don't think that public domain content needs to be deleted because of lack of information. If it really does appear or really is public domain, I'll often keep it. Feel free to let another admin review it. No skin off my back. Cheers. Missvain (talk) 01:11, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker)The first thing to come to mind: published in 1915 and taken in 1915 are two entirely different things inasfar as establishing its copyright status. Then again, there's tons of content on this site to which that applies. Cheers.RadioKAOS (talk) 02:00, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

With no source, no license, wrong date and no information about where/who - this one needed another review. If the original uploader would only help out, all could be solved. I am a big fan of keeping all the PD images we can, but this particular one is missing too much. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:15, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Closed DR of photographs by Ion Chibzii[edit]

Hello. I noticed you closed Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Photographs by Ion Chibzii as keep. However, these photos are still tagged with a DR notice at Category:Deletion requests November 2021 on their individual files, like File:"Andreika" (1968). (6085142086).jpg. Commons:Deletion requests/File:Hanya Yanagihara by Sam Levy.jpg[edit]

Hello!

If the copyright owner signed a release and the photo was uploaded and there is also additional verification (see: https://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/05/books/review/hanya-yanagiharas-a-little-life.html) that he is the copyright holder, is there a way to have this photo restored and used as the photo on the author page? It is the author's official photo.

I am still learning my way around the editing process of Wikipedia, so any insight here would be helpful.

Here is the full entry on the Hanya Yanagihara page:

User:Stellatree - You have to have the copyright holder send a letter to COM:VRTS. Please follow the instructions presented at COM:VRTS. If the permission letter is accepted by the VRTS volunteers, they will undelete it. But, without a letter from the copyright holder (Sam Levy) verifying they released it under a free license it will have to remain deleted. Cheers. Missvain (talk) 03:09, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

excised file from deleted image[edit]

You deleted File:Enterprise & Voyager.jpg in May for being a derivative work. One of the two objects in that photo was cropped to File: Enterprise & Voyager (USS Voyager crop).jpg, which was also deleted for being a derivative work. Shouldn't, too, File:USS Enterprise 1701D.jpg be deleted, as it's just the other copyrighted model in the original photo? Fourthords | =Λ= | 23:44, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Hi Sarah, I just noticed that you deleted File:Seinfeld street art (24600324749).jpg and cited it was a copyright violation. I wonder it is a copyvio of the photo itself, or a copyvio of the street art. If it is the latter case, why COM:FOP Colombia cannot be applied here? A1Cafel (talk) 08:56, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That was years ago...I don't remember it...I have no idea at this point. I have been trying to review the deleted file but I'm not able to do so (not sure why). Feel free to request someone to undelete it if you're concerned. I've processed thousands of deletions and I don't remember 99.9% of them after I close them out. (Just being honest) As an admin who reviews deletions, its the job of the nominators to raise the case, not my job to sit around and research FOP all day long. So, if it isn't presented to me...I'm going with what I know and what the case presented it, and whatever is safest and most ethical for Commons. Missvain (talk) 17:03, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@A1Cafel: it was this Flickr photo, which is derivative of two copyrighted photos (head shot of Jerry Seinfeld and body shot of John Lennon). -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 17:47, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I was curious if you know in which direction we're looking in this photo?

File:Amtrak_Cardinal_in_Indianapolis_-_June_2022_-_Sarah_Stierch_03.jpg

I always have a hard time orienting myself when we're looking at photos of this place, particularly under the shed as it's obviously been majorly reconfigured. I feel like we're looking directly west and the wall on the left is what separates us from the thru-tracks for the freight lines? 2601:405:4601:1980:4452:391B:76AE:9106 08:21, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
