Flickr accounts[edit]

The deletion of a Flickr account is not a valid reason for deletion. Licenses for images on Flickr are irrevocable. Additionally, we do not require model releases. See Template:2257. – Adrignola talk 14:40, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for dropping by! I understand that about the Flickr account, I do think that documentation needs to be written a little clearer. Regardless, I also understand that Commons policy is currently not requiring a model release, but, I do have interest in working to change that. I think it'll improve the quality of Commons, allow the public to be represented correctly at all levels, and also allow us to avoid situations that could eventually happen! It's an empowering opportunity for Commons to really take a leading role that Flickr, and other websites, aren't taking. I look forward to developing these ideas further! Missvain (talk) 15:07, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you on the model releases. There is a Facebook group that was started by Wikipedians who believed in at least having a model release for any nudity/sexual content at the minimum. You should still have all of my facebook info, so you can look up that group sometime. Just an fyi that there were many others with the same thought. :) Ottava Rima (talk) 17:24, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I followed up on one of your deletion nominations here. Fyi. :) Ottava Rima (talk) 17:22, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some stroopwafels for you![edit]

Dear Missvain, to show my appreciation for your excellent work commenting on deletion requests, I hereby give you some stroopwafels (a delicious Dutch cookie). ;) Keep up the good work! Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 02:51, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

orphaned since upload[edit]

Hi Sarah, how can you find out "orphaned since upload"? I never did see a tool for this. Can you tell me? :) I only can see current usage. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 04:21, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have to be honest, I don't have any special button or way of knowing. I just magically sense it (powers of the unicorn). However, sometimes you will find project links still exist for some content. But honestly, many things you just know they haven't been used. Mainly personal photos, stuff like that. The blonde with glasses file was one of my first nominations in regards to the flickwashing idea, etc. I usually just do boring copyvios and personal photos =) Sorry I'm a fraud!! ;D Missvain (talk) 04:25, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Bah! And I hoped for a new tool. :( Seriously, then please do not write it if you just "feel" it. ... No disrespect regarding your magic abilities intended. ;)
Thanks anyway for your answer. Umm.. and I noticed your section here regarding a name change. You need to request it at Commons:Changing_username. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 04:54, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for replying back and being quite friendly! Yes, the name change is being processed, long story on why that's up there. ;) Thanks for your contributions and for your solid advice! Missvain (talk) 04:58, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see - it is just a confirmation for some other page (meta, I guess). Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:42, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sarah, you've requested to rename File:Aechmea fulgens at US Botanic Garden - September 2011 - B.jpg to File:Aechmea fulgens - US Botanic Garden - Stierch.jpg. However, there's already another file with that name. Would you like to have it renamed to a different title? Regards, Mathonius (talk) 02:43, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: I hope it's okay that I post this here. Please let me know if I should've contacted you via your other account. Mathonius (talk) 02:43, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Totally okay :) Let's call it File:Aechmea fulgens - US Botanic Garden - B - Stierch.jpg. Thanks so much =) Missvain (talk) 02:44, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done, thanks for your quick reply. :) Mathonius (talk) 02:50, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

[1] I doubt you own the billboard, so perhaps tag it with "Freedom of Panorama" or something? :) Ottava Rima (talk) 18:50, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S., I'm a tad confused as to how a Centurion and his slave constitutes a "gay couple". :) Ottava Rima (talk) 18:56, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The case of User:Stanton49[edit]

I feel really sorry for the guy with a sea of templates on his page.

These selective deletions, one bit at a time, are annoying. It's ok for dedicated deletion-only accounts like the Sorry Duralex IP (the one I called "permablocked offender" [2]) - but, in my opinion, the way to go is all or nothing. It's fair and it saves everyone's time and nerves. Please, next time you see something that you think must go down, check the uploader's history, and check related categories. Most of the time, there are lots of similar files, and if one deserves deletion, so do the others.

File:Korean_War_Veterans_Memorial_Detail_by_Kubicki,_Jr..jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Nsdr[edit]

Hi Missvain, Mattbuck and I created the Category:Nudity and sexuality-related deletion requests today - I see you already adopted it. :D I am not sure if the category design is final or very useful. You probably did notice that I had to change the sortkey some minutes ago as the category page are a bit more useful if you see the last changes (i.e. active DRs). So.. still beta. ;) Feel free to comment at Category talk:Nudity and sexuality-related deletion requests. I hope we were not too fast in creating these categories and template. Good night! :-) --Saibo (Δ) 03:42, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Missvain!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi Sarah, thanks for the barnstar (and for the wave on IRC). :) I'm still figuring out how this IRC thing works, but aim to sneak a look every now and then at what's happening, and will say something eventually. :) Best, --JN466 23:15, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicates[edit]

Hello Missvain,

to have identical duplicates deleted, you don't need to start a regular deletion request (like Commons:Deletion requests/File:Actitis macularia 1891.jpg). Duplicate is intended to be used in such cases; the deletion process is faster this way (at least it should be). You might want to have a look at Bad name too, this is for duplicate files you have uploaded yourself using a filename that has some error in it. Lastly, Rename might also interest you, it's used for requesting that a file be moved to a more appropriate filename. Regards --Rosenzweig τ 19:09, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see you already know the rename template, sorry. --Rosenzweig τ 19:18, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism?[edit]

Hello, Missvain. You have write a message in my page that I don't understand. I have no idea what action you mean when you say that I have vandalized a page. Of course I have no intention of vandalism and I think your warning is disproportionate. Please, could you expain me why have you put this warning in my page? Thanks. --Irene Pelegrí (talk) 11:47, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Judith Mason11.jpg[edit]

As the image summary states "email from Judith Mason's daughter forwarded to Permissions" on 11 December 2008. Judith Mason is a close personal friend and her daughter Petra, who is also her manager, gave permission to use the image in her email. Have Permissions lost the relevant email and why has it taken some 3 years for the penny to drop?

File:Judith Mason10.jpg is my personal photo of Judith Mason and as it states in the summary it is "my own work". In other words I am the author of this file and the template querying this after more than 4 years - "there is no proof that the author of the file agreed to license the file under the given license" - flies in the face of all reason.

Is Commons truly in such an advanced state of disorganisation?

Paul Venter paulvent@gmail.com

Mr. Venter, I have only been handling OTRS for one week, and it appears that someone did not clarify through an OTRS template that the materials were received. I'm hoping someone will be able to find these materials. Please don't be angry, this is for the safety and concern of not only you, but the subject and her daughter. Missvain (talk) 19:23, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Three years later and I have discovered the OTRS tickets and added the template. I am so sorry about this, it appears the previous agent never followed through by placing the confirmation template on the media pages. Missvain (talk) 19:34, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I do not understand the email. The file in question is Creative Commons CC-by-SA. Everything on the EFF.org website is CC-by-SA. When I go to that page, there is no discussion on the page that is current.

Please advise.

-- Hi Tim - the file description actually states that the license is Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0), and then you have CC-BY-SA listed as well. Your Flickr account also states it is CC BY-NC-ND 3.0. It also appears as if you took the photograph, but I guess you did not? We need the direct website link to where the image came from. Thanks!
