overcategorization[edit]

Can I make a suggestion? Like so many arts editors, you over-categorize things. Van Gogh has many works, yes, but in this flat list I just created (Category:Paintings by Vincent van Gogh by name), many of the minor works with 1 or 2 images were created by you. I don't see the value in this. I created that category to have some chance of actually finding a given painting. Regards, Boo-Boo Baroo (talk) 06:21, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

One... two... three...
I really appreciate the thoughtful reply you sent. When I understand the reasons for these choices, which are valid, it helps greatly. You are absolutely right that on Commons we live in a sort of technical "stone age" (well, you didn't say that :-) with respect to finding files. Wouldn't it be nice if each artwork file could have a series of independent attributes ("tags") that could be combined together as the user wishes. For example, one Van Gogh file would have "oil painting, Van Gogh, 1889, landscape, Arles, Van Gogh Museum, [etc]" as separate entities that could be combined together to create an image set. Thanks for taking the time to reply at length and have a good day. Boo-Boo Baroo (talk) 15:45, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Permission to publish your photo of Bust of Hadrian, Seville Museum.[edit]

Hello

I am sorry for writing in English - I hope you can understand this! I am an archaeologist working in northern England and have just completed a new book entitled ‘Hadrian and his Wall’. The first part is a biography of Hadrian, and in this I would very much like to use 3 of your excellent photos of the bust of Hadrian in Seville Museum. Given that you have placed these images on Wikimedia, I hope this will be okay, and by way of thanks I would like to send you a copy of the book when it is published. If you would like a copy of the book please let me know the address I should send it to.

The image will be credited as ‘Photo: Léna/Wikimedia’, unless you advise me otherwise.

To ensure I get it promptly, I would be very grateful if you could please copy any reply to paulfrodsham@hotmail.com .

Thank you very much.

Best wishes,

Paul Frodsham

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Files_by_User:Wayne77/Monde

Il me reproche mon pseudo : attaque ad hominem.

--Zolo (talk) 10:29, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merci.––Oursana (talk) 02:42, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Appropriately Licensed[edit]

You participated at the earlier discussion on licence choice for Featured Pictures. A number of users felt that such restrictions should be made at policy level. Please comment at Commons:Requests for comment/AppropriatelyLicensed. This is a proposal to amend this licence policy to disallow future uploads where the sole licence is inappropriate for the media (e.g., GFDL for images). In earlier discussions there were a number of comments that, while reasonable opinions, did not align with Wikimedia's mission for free content. Please read the FAQ before commenting. Thanks -- Colin (talk) 22:55, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

User:RomaneDagain[edit]

Bonjour

Merci, Trizek from FR 16:38, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Ronce « géante Lockness »[edit]

Hello Léna,
I'm just looking for identified Rubus cultivars and found your pictures of Ronce « géante Lockness ». I wanted to ask if you know it that is a cultivar and if yes, if it could possibly be 'Loch Ness' with a spelling mistake.
Best wishes, Anna reg (talk) 20:39, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Suppression d'images[edit]

Les licences Template:Anonymous-EU et Template:PD-old me semble donc pleinement appropriées.

Bien cordialement --Vanuatu1 (talk) 20:13, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Freedom of Panorama in Belgium[edit]

Hi Léna, I am sorry to say, but the restoring of images from the Atomium is currently breaking the Belgian law! The law on Freedom of Panorama comes into effect on the 10th day after the publication of the law in the Belgian official journal. This publication was on the 5th of July. Ten days later is 15 July. So please wait until it is 15 July in Belgium (14 July 22:00 UTC) before you restore images.

Further I like to say that Wikimedia Belgium organises on 15 July a party with the symbolic first image restored and placed back in Wikipedia. If you are situated in Belgium, you are welcome to come. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 01:37, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Historical images by Paolo Monti by city[edit]

Hi! Thank you for your message. Actually, I've made a mistake changing from "Historical images of X" to "X". I agree that the right category is "Historical images of Ferrara" and not "Ferrara". In the next days I'll correct all the photos I've wrongly changed. I'm a student and I've just got involved into the BEIC project about Paolo Monti's photos. I'm a beginner so every comment on what I change will be helpful. However, I ask you not to add the category "Historical images by Paolo Monti by city" because Marco Chemello asked me to eliminate it, as the the new cathegory will be "by country" instead of "by city". demandes de suppression[edit]

Bonjour
