I am relatively new to Commons, although I have been on Wikipedia for a while. File:2006_Cayman-S.jpg appears to be a copyvio, as its source seems to be porsche.com. It seemed suspiciously professional for its rather simple description page, so I pasted the URL of the image into google image search and porsche.com came up. I followed the link, and though I couldn't find that particular image quickly, I saw many other which are very similar. As I am not positive this is a copyvio I didn't want to tag it as such–what is the correct procedure for discussion of images like this on Commons? Deleting of Mini 7 Racing Club photos

I've emailed the photographer and he says its ok for me to upload them to Wikipedia.
I then forwarded to the general email address (info-en-c@wikimedia.org) this email.
Could you please undelete the photos and repost them to Mini 7 Racing Club Season.

Temporary deletion for file renaming

Hi Courcelles !

As a new filemover, I'd like to know if my requests for deletion are relevant when a redirection prevents renaming of a file.

  • Yeah, if a redirect is preventing an otherwise legitimate move, and the redirect points to the file you're trying to move there, asking any sysop to remove the redirect is entirely legitimate. If the redirect points to a third, unrelated file, you'd be better off choosing a new name to move the original file to, in most cases. (BSIcons being an exception where you want to call in someone who understands the whole complicated mess!) Courcelles (talk) 19:49, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

I started to complain about your deletion here, but then I looked again at the deleted image. The difference between the cello image and File:Kate Grenville 15July2011.jpg is so startling that I can't feel very strongly about this particular case.

In general, though, I really don't like deleting images at the request of celebrities, even if they provide a replacement. Allowing image subjects to edit our files seems very wrong. If we are to be a truly useful repository, we should have multiple images of celebrities, some of which the celebrity might not like. Even this horrible deleted photo of her could be legitimately useful to someone writing a biography -- she does play the cello.      Jim . . . .   • I'm not normally a fan of deletion on request myself, but when everyone involved, including the original uploader, and the person who brought it here from enwp, agreed to let the first image go, I'm willing to honor the subject's request for how she appears to the world. One is a professional photograph, one is a not-great image of her as she happened to look one night at cello practice. If she was notable as a cellist, again, the image should have stayed, but given she is an author, the legitimate uses of the cello image, as bad as it was, are highly unlikely. Hi,

If the files that I renamed aren't used on others projects, do I must list them too on User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands#Image replace requests ? Thanks to have cleaned my mess ([1], [2])

deleting my photos

hi courcelles, im mikerp1986 and you deleted my photoes from my article Haifa MUN society, why? those pictures are mine and so is the logo, and im a member of the society where i was granted the permission to post them, could you please help me out to do what is necessary to undelete the pics and put them back please?

Hello, the template you were left on your talk page, as well as COM:OTRS and Commons:Permission will explain the process that is necessary. Once OTRS clears the permission, the images can be restored. Courcelles (talk) 01:12, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Well, fair point, restored and re-tagged. I usually get those, but the canoe-shaped things in the left threw me off in the bad old ones tool view. I strongly suspect this is out of scope, however, as the company's article was speedy deleted on Swedish Wikipedia for being non-notable spam. If they're willing to speedy a Swedish company (being that they would have the easiest time finding Swedish sources), I'd be surprised if anyone else would keep one. We did send an email which was what the 'instructions' told us to do but that was apparently not adequate so we were emailed a template to complete on 11 October by Aaron Adrignola.....We responded on that same day by email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with the information as above because that was what we were asked to do!

I was the one who took the picture, uploaded to www.amusemnetparkauthority.com, and then I uploaded it to Wiki Commons. I DO NOT NEED PERMISSION for my own WORK!!

  • But we do need the permission. When images are elsewhere on the internet, we have people every day, by the dozens, claim an image they found randomly on the internet was taken by them, and is their own work. The requirement to clear permission in these cases through OTRS is just as much to protect the creator of content from false claims of ownership as it is to protect us and further reusers from hosting and using copyright violations.   • But it is my picture you can email Jp (that's me) on Amusement Park Authority or Austin (the owner of the website) and you will find out that I use the name "jpp858" on most of everything online, I just change my name since I am a staff member for the site! And when I put the image on Wikipedia Commons I did put it as my own work with the date that I took it! But oh well I guess your going to lose an image that could help Wikipedia in someway. Renaming File:Royal_Canadian_Air_Force_flag.svg

Hello, just wanted to let you know that I've moved the above file to the requested name at File:Royal_Canadian_Air_Force_ensign.svg. I'm letting you know this because you previously declined a move request of that file. The move that I performed was acceptable by policy, specifically COM:RENAME #5 in regards to correcting a factual error in the name. While the distinction might not seem like much to someone who doesn't know much about flags, ensigns and jacks, it is a significant distinction.   • Given that Category:Ensigns is a subscategory, of Category:Flags, and common English usage, I think you're wrong, an ensign is a specific kind of flag, and not in line with rule 5, but moving it back would be worse... Courcelles (talk) 16:26, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
    An ensign is a specific type of flag, in a similar way to Araneidae (orb web spiders) being a family within the Araneae order (to use an example that would warrant a move). I do realize that this might seem like a very minor distinction, but as I said above it is an important one to make. I can definitely see how the change would seem insignificant to most people (and perhaps I was wrong in moving it for that very reason), but at any rate I thought I'd let you know as a courtesy.
