pdbox images

Hi,

I uploaded several images to a page. We are the creator of the images, but you deleted them a few days ago.

I did try to grant permission, but I admit that I find the Wikipedia permissions process EXTREMELY confusing. I granted permission, yet afterwards it was showing me a red box saying that permission had been granted but there was some other problem I did not understand. I'm sorry but I was very confused. Please let me know what we have to do to give you permission to use the images.

I'm uploading new (different) images to the page and going through the file uploading process very carefully (one by one), and I am selecting the "This is my own work" option at the end. I hope this is enough to grant Wikipedia permission to use the images. If not, please tag the images (don't delete them as we can give you permission! We created and own all rights to the images!) and then let us know (here on your talk page, I will keep an eye on it) the necessary steps to give you permission to have them on your website.

Thank you very much and sorry for any trouble.

Sincerely,

pdbox

Please disregard; issue has been resolved by OTRS. Pdbox (talk) 15:38, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Can you please tell me what file is under discussion here? Or translate the Chinese, a language I do not speak? Thanks. Courcelles (talk) 20:38, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

I don't know why chinese is appearing on my query - I do not speak it either??? I am still trying to reload the images but they won't reload because they have already been uploaded and deleted!!! Please fix this problem [Ticket#2011101110000126] thanks Griffo man

  • I don't have my OTRS access on this machine, I'll have a look tomorrow or so. But, this is not my ticket, so the agent who is handling it will have to ultimately advise you; and the images can be restored once the OTRS agent has cleared them. Courcelles (talk) 03:26, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

OTRS flag confirm

Hello

Could you please have a look at this and confirm that Micki is an OTRS member. Thank you. Regards--Morning Sunshine (talk) 05:54, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

The copyright owner has sent an email on November 14th to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with a link to the files' source, to authorize the use of the deleted files. A copy of the email was forwarded to me as well. The email was sent on November 14th, and I was advised by User:Rsocol, who had deleted the files initially, along with yourself I believe, to wait a few days for OTRS to review before I send an 'undeletion' request should the files not be restored by then. I have done that on Nov. 20th and had no response to my request so far or even an update on whether the authorization email was processed and/or accepted or not. I really appreciate your help on this!! Best Regards, --Mona MG (talk) 05:01, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

File:Civil Air Patrol US.png‎

May I ask, what was your reasoning for removing my deletion request for File:Civil Air Patrol US.png‎? It would be useful information when removing such requests. Huntster (t @ c) 11:50, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

  • Your reasoning (involving the Army Institute of Heraldy) is entirely suited to the formal COM:DR process, and should nto have been filed as a speedy. Speedy is only for unambiguous copyright violations, in this case, I'm not even sure why you think this is a copyvio (as opposed to the wrong tag), much less confident if you're right. Really, if there is any doubt at all, or if it takes three sentences to explain, you shroud always be sending it to a formal DR instead of a speedy. Courcelles (talk) 13:50, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
    • Fair enough, and I admit I made a mistake...it was the SVG file with the IoH template (which I'm sure confused the issue), but neither image has the proper license; this shield was designed by CAP after 1964, and the Institute played no part in CAP designs after that year, due to CAP's reorganisation efforts. That said, thank you for your insight, and I'll take it to DR. Huntster (t @ c) 20:37, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I was trying to have the name a little cleaner and also include the time frame, which could be relevant and useful in searches. But if you think is not good enough to warrant an rename, that is fine.--Codrin.B (talk) 19:00, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

  • Moving a file makes a right-awful mess, as every usage on every project has to be changed to ensure the image will work correctly. Therefore, we don't rename images just because a somewhat better name is possible; rather when there is actively something wrong about the current name, which isn't the case here. Hope that helps, Courcelles (talk) 22:15, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Can you help me?

Hi Courcelles. I'm known as Seduisant on several spaces [1], except here on Commons, where I'm SeduisantRedux. The reason for this is, once long ago, apparently there was a Commons user Seduisant, so I was forced to use another name. Now it appears that user is no more.

I'd like to change to Seduisant as my Commons user ID as well. Can you help me, point me someplace, rename me, or otherwise advise me how to turn User:SeduisantRedux into User:Seduisant on Commons?

I hope this isn't a big deal. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Merci d'avance.

Seduisant/SeduisantRedux

I'll do this, many thanks for your help. --SeduisantRedux (talk) 03:35, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Dear POTY-voter, some helpful people made us aware of a mistake in our candidate list. We regret the inconvenience.

Therefore we will add your vote to Commons:Picture of the Year/2011/R1/Into the Jaws of Death 23-0455M edit.jpg after voting is over, if you do not disagree and it is not yet there. If you don't want to have your vote transferred, visit Commons:Picture of the Year/2011/R1/1944 NormandyLST clean.jpg and remove your vote, either by editing the page and removing exactly the line containing your username or clicking the button.

Yours sincerely -- RE rillke questions? 10:01, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

File:Hildegard_Klepper-Paar,_Landshut_2009.JPG

Hallo Courcelles,

the uploader Womus can't understand why this photo was deleted and asked me for help. May you tell me, what was wrong with the permission? He says he is the son of Hildegard Klepper-Paar and has her permission. Is there a ticket missing? --Anika (talk) 23:41, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes, there needs to be an OTRS ticket on this one, Courcelles 02:01, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi there, can you delete these images before they are added to more pages. They are hopeless to keep them. Thanks.--Officer (talk) 15:39, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you have a moment, could you do me a favor. I decided to occupy my time to list the no-FoP files in Italy. It has been a long and difficult work that needs to be reviewed by administrators. Please, could you check if everything is correct on User:Raoli/Deletion requests/FoP Italy? Thanks! Raoli ✉ (talk) 00:23, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Białymstok or Białystok ?

You renamed File:Białymstok, ul. Piękna 3.jpg. But the city is internationlly known as Białystok. The form "Białymstoku" is certainly a locative where "biały" (white) becomes "białym" and "stok" (slope) becomes "stoku" in the sentence " ... przy ul. Pięknej 3 w Białymstoku ... " (ul. Pięknej 3 w Białymstoku = Pięknej Street 3 in Bialystok). I don't quite know polish grammar, but I guess. So the file should be renamed File:Białystok, ul. Piękna 3.jpg. What do you think about ? --Arno Lagrange 19:48, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
