File:Cmglee RIBA model Olympic Stadium.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

An excellent image, Cmglee. But, as my secondary school Geography teacher used to remind us (with tedious regularity): "a map isn't a map without a compass and a scale." I'm not sure you would necessarily agree with that statement. But - is there any chance of you adding a scale? (I think we can guess China is in the North). Many thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:12, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your feedback, Martinevans123. They are valid points for large-scale maps indeed. On maps covering a significant part of the world's surface, however, having a scale would be misleading, as different parts of the map have different scales (the usual problem of representing a spherical surface on a flat plane). I also think that this part of the world is well-known enough that the reader can surmise that north is up. Many other maps on Wikipedia and other sites do not indicate north unless the direction was unobvious or "up" wasn't north for some reason. cmglee (talk) 20:46, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. "I think we can guess China is in the North". I see we already have another contributor at that article. I thought your map was very clear. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:14, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This file uses hyphens instead of minus signs and fails to italicize variables. Thus instead of

n

we see

-n

Can that be fixed? 128.101.152.68 20:58, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You have voted 2/3 twice. Please can you amend your vote to have at most one of 3/3, 2/3 and 1/3 votes. Can you do this soon or I may have to remove your votes in order to determine the winners. Thanks. -- Colin (talk) 22:35, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing homonym diagram.[edit]

Hello. The diagram you made https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Homograph_homophone_venn_diagram.svg is a bit confusing. I think it was a mistake to include synonyms in your diagram, as a homonym can never be a synonym. (Homonyms have different meanings by definition) I can see why you wanted to include synonym in your diagram, but it makes the whole thing quite confusing. For instance, it looks like heteronyms are not also homonyms, which is not the case. I think a better idea for a clearer diagram is to not include synonym at all, and instead nest everything under homonym.

I have many an example to show what I mean:

As you can see the diagram that I have made is not nearly as beautiful as yours. That is why I am contacting you instead of just replacing your diagram. Maybe if you have the time and willpower you can one day update your diagram.

Original rendition
Hello! Thanks for your note. I drew the graphic based on File:Homograph_homophone_venn_diagram.png which also has synonyms. I don't know enough about linguistics to make a judgement call or find appropriate reference. If you can get a consensus on the exact changes required from the English Wikipedia language reference desk, I'll upload a new version. Cheers, cmglee (talk) 23:25, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
