Hi :) My name is Milan. I’m a user on the serbian wiki. I want to upload some pictures from the website www.myexit.org. It’s about a music festival EXIT in Novi Sad, Serbia. This website have a licence CC-BY-SA-NC , and it’s not compatible with GFDL (because of NC). But we on the serbian wiki have a special permission to upload and use all pictures and text from this website. Is it possible to upload these pictures on the Wikimedia Commons. I don’t want someone erase them because of this licences incomatibility. I’m sorry if my english is not very good. Please answer here. Thank you!

Cette photo a été uploadée il y a quelques années. Je ne sais pas si OTRS existait à l'époque, mais la description parle d'un échange de mails dont on ne trouve aucune trace. Je ne sais pas si on peut réellement considérer cette image comme libre. J'ai depuis uploadé plusieurs nouvelles photos de ce groupe sous licence CC-BY-SA-2.0 issues de Flickr. Il faudrait peut être contacter l'auteur ou supprimer l'image, non ? En passant, je n'ai trouvé sur Commons:OTRS aucun modèle à ajouter pour ce genre de cas (et c'est loin d'être le premier que je rencontre). Hi, the 2 images above were uploaded by Ella Spencer, the PA and publicity manager for Steve Balderson, an independent filmmaker who owns their copyright. As she is not herself Steve and they are commercial images, the sourcing was queried and they are now in danger of being deleted. I contacted Ella on her userpage on the English Wikipedia en:User talk:Pipistrello2004 and she has got Steve to send an email. She has asked me if this will work and I haven't a clue. I'm afraid this is not eligible for hosting on Commons. The image is part of a title sequence, and it is a copyrighted trademark belonging either to ABC or the production company. The issue of copyrighted trademarks has been discussed at length on Commons, and this image would require a release by the trademark's owner.

On another note, you've only just become an administrator, so let me explain something. It's a bad idea to restore images that another administrator has deleted without discussion beforehand. I suggest you be very careful in doing it in the future. Cary Bass ^demandez 16:24, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

I still think that it shouldn't have been deleted without discussion. There is ample precedence for keeping trademarked logos, if they don't have a sufficient degree of originality. thank you for your reply and initiative to propose me for the post. I'm discussing within a group of linguist who are bringing there abilities to a google translation project, i do think there are many opportunities to a great development of ht-wikis, particularly the wikipedya and wiksyonè. I'm trying now to reorganize the categories which are not collected within portals (mathematics, physics, history, education ...etc) and filing essential entries for encouraging contributions.

Universities and colleges

I know it's been a long time, but when you created Category:Universities and colleges in the United States you placed it under Category:Buildings in the United States. But a university or college isn't typically a single building, and may include many things besides buildings (open outdoor space, athletic stadiums, and also people). (In the extreme cases, a single college or university may have widely dispersed campuses: consider Antioch in this respect.) It seems to me that we should want to separate out a Category:University and college buildings in the United States (which should be under Category:Buildings in the United States) from the present category, which I think should not. But before I even begin to contemplate such an enormous task, I figured I'd check with you and see if there is something I'm missing. - Jmabel | talk 05:52, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello, you have supported to the promotion of the image Image:Grande Arche de La Défense et fontaine.jpg to the Featured Picture status, and I thank you for that. Currently this image has been proposed to deletion by another user under the pretext that there is no FOP in France.

I believe that the image is not a copyright infringement; the main subject is the water from the fountain, the Grand Arche is unavoidable in the background. In what the lightning of the fountain is concerned, as user Arad mentioned in the original nomination, they are very simple and they do not have a special plan, so they cannot be copyrighted.

If you wish you can express your opinion on this issue on the deletion request page of this image, otherwise the image could disappear soon; the usage check indicates that the image is already used in around 150 pages around internation wikis (usage check), it would be a pity for the community to see a FP image disappear.

Help with renaming

Hi, I would be grateful if you could help with the following.

I am User:Dovi at most Wikimedia wikis; I am a b'crat at he.wikisource.org and an admin at wikisource.org.

However, here at Commons when I first logged in I made some sort of error with my password, and didn't put in an e-mail address. User:Dovi here at Commons is me, but I haven't been able to log in ever since, and have been contributing instead as User:DoviJ.

The User:Dovi account has 0 contributions.

I just finished creating my global account for all Wikimedia projects but I cannot complete it here at the Commons because of the above problem.

As a b'crat, is there anything you can do regarding renaming that can solve the problem? If User:DoviJ could be renamed as User:Dovi it would solve the problem.

It seems that the discussion has gone on far longer than it should have and perhaps both parties should take a break from it before further comments are made that can be construed as bordering on defamation. It looks to have gotten the attention of several administrators as well. Can you please follow up two OTRS tickets for me? I think the images are copyvios...

Can you please check the OTRS tickets for Image:Amanda Gilman 2.jpg and Image:Amanda Gilman 1.jpg? I can't imagine who is licensing them under creative commons, because the first one is very definitely copyrighted by Fadil Berisha and the Miss Universe Organization. Unfortunately they've just taken down the 2006 profiles and the Internet Archive hasn't captured the image, but I know for a fact that that image is copyright. If you need more proof, I'll dig something up. The second was a professional picture taken during Gilman's reign. Usurpation at fi-wiki

Fi-wiki has a community-approved usurpation policy now, so we would appreciate it if you let us handle the usurpations in fi-wiki. Usurpation of fi:Käyttäjä:Rebecca could have been done in accordance with our policy. I hope it wasn't what it looked like — a powerful en-wiki user getting preferential treatment. Just to be clear: so you will walk over our usurpation policy if the need arises again? (I think you just lost AGF there...) Are there any other fi-wiki policies that do not apply to this ombudsman commission? Just how critical was this usurpation of an innocent fi-wiki user since it couldn't have waited for the two weeks our policy requires?

Some stewards seem to think they are not actually allowed to walk over local policies. Although that case was just about regular little people.

(Background: fi-wiki's usurpation policy or lack thereof was under heated discussion just a while ago, and our community worked hard to craft its own policy so that we would not be walked over.
