Flickr reviewing

Hello Techman224, and thank you for your application to be a flickr reviewer. The application has been removed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. Congratulations! Please see Commons:Flickr images if you haven't done so already, and the backlogs at Category:Flickr images needing human review and Category:Flickr review needed. A helpful script for easy-tagging flickr images is at importScript('User:Patstuart/Flickrreview.js'); (which you can add to your monobook.js), and you can add User reviewer or User trusted to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your work on Commons! :) –Juliancolton | Talk 18:08, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

re:Request for source fixing

Hi ZooFari. I have fixed the link. I'm sorry about that. Let me know if I've done it properly, I'm still a bit new to the Flickr upload tool. Best wishes, Rje (talk) 00:45, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Informing of Copyvio

Hi! When you review images from Flickr or Picase you could perhaps concider to use "no permission" instead of "Copyvio notice". I can imagine that many users would not like to see a big red notice with "Pay attention to copyright" on their talk page. I normally use no permission in cases like User_talk:DrFO.Jr.Tn#File:Avenue_H._Bourguiba_.28la_nuit.29_-_Tunis.jpg and where they claim it to be own work or if they are new users. It is much more freindly and informative. Of course if they keep uploading copyvio there is no need for a "no permission". --MGA73 (talk) 19:18, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Will do. ZooFari 04:33, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

That request I mentioned

I'd like to update the Rensselaer County maps to look more like the old Albany County maps (example). Could you create a new file for each of the towns/cities/villages in Rensselaer County (the ones you did previously) and add the map of New York with Rensselaer County highlighted (get rid of the water, though) to the left of each? I will use those in the articles, and keep the original ones you made in the Commons category for future reference of any interested reader. Sound doable? I would suggest you start with Schaghticoke (town), then let me know, and I'll let you know what I think. Then you can just copy+paste the NY map to the rest of them. Come up with a common naming scheme, maybe File:Rensselaer County {Town, City or Village Name} with NY.svg. There are only 22 of them, so it shouldn't take that long, I wouldn't think. Muchas gracias in advance! upstateNYer 04:09, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Okay. check out File:RensselaerCounty Schaghticoke with NY.svg and let me know if that's something you're looking for. ZooFari 03:05, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
No border around the state. Center the state and the county along the horizontal center. Part of Long Island is missing. Otherwise, looks great! upstateNYer 03:18, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Fixed. How's that? ZooFari 03:45, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Perfect! Would you be able to do the same thing for all of the Rensselaer County maps? upstateNYer 14:11, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

......

These are excellent. Many thanks, like always. upstateNYer 02:27, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Pictures on Senegalese football

Hello, you just mentioned a problem related to a series of Picasa pictures. I don't know what to do, as the author (Serigne Diagne, a Senegalese journalist who also contributed himself to Wikimedia elsewhere, sometimes under the name "Rignese") had given permission in 2008, when I uploaded these images. He seems to have changed the licenses on Picasa in the meantime and I could not get in touch with him recently... Ji-Elle (talk) 08:34, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Well that's quite a shame, because picasa review was not yet established at the time. Since we cannot verify whether the license on Picasa was ever free, you will need to consult him and ask for permission. Otherwise we will have to lose those images, unfortunately. ZooFari 22:51, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank you

Look at the source now File:Mohamed Salmeen.jpg

Abodi009 (talk) 10:50, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Hey ZooFari,

I was wondering how I should add the permission for the flickr I uploaded. It can be seen here:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sunil_Gavaskar.jpg

The problem says it missing licensing, but if you go the source UR::

http://www.flickr.com/photos/32573704@N00/241368267

You can see a Creative Commons 2.0 Licensing. I am confused about what I should do to get the image off the chopping block.

Thanks,

Xavier

The image is also licensed as non-commercial and no derivatives, which aren't allowed on Commons. You can, however, consult the Flickr user and convince the user to change the license to Creative Commons 2.0 Unported or ask for permission. ZooFari 15:44, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello, ZooFari/Archive!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Why was the particular hot pink or magenta color chosen? To follow international sign conventions, it should be in a solid filled blue circle, not a magenta ring. AnonMoos (talk) 02:15, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

It was requested that way, see here. I too wonder why but I guess he'll find it useful. Cheers, ZooFari 02:18, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
OK, but then it would have been best to clarify by including some of that information on the image description page. AnonMoos (talk) 11:09, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Can you crop the bottom part from the Vevo logo at Wikipedia? Someone else uploaded a jpg to replace it, but I just deleted it because the SVG is preferable. But we need to get rid of the "1. music 2. video 3. you" and associated content on the bottom. So it just needs a crop. File is File:Vevo Logo.svg, but it's only available at WP. Thanks ZF. upstateNYer 14:47, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello ZooFari, I've made a reply now here.

Editing

 • Your diagrams were nominated at en:FPC and edits are usually uploaded separately so that reviewers can compare. If you would like to disregard the edit file, implement the changes in the edit to the original and create a delist-and-replace at en:FPC so that the original image can be the featured one. Same applies to the jellyfish diagram. I'll do this procedure if you would like. Also, what's the problem about "other versions"? ZooFari 21:48, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi ZooFari. I tagged your image as it is incorrect (explained there). --Leyo 20:25, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Can you make this look more natural?

File:Barack Obama signature.svg doesn't look at all natural. It has block ends and no points. Do you think you could make it look more like a human wrote it than being drawn on a computer? upstateNYer 02:50, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Did the joint change make it any better? ZooFari 00:40, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure what changes you made? I don't see any difference between the old version and the one you uploaded. I'm basically looking for a pointed end on all strokes (which would seem more natural to me), and all corners rounded (such as the inside of the B and one of the points at the end of "Barack". upstateNYer 03:12, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
FWIW, the tips look more rounded now to me. –Juliancolton | Talk 03:32, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Inappropriate attitude

Whether this was intended as a joke or not, please don't play around as seen throughout your contributions. I know that it isn't your usual attitude, but "you need a brain" is insulting. Be civil and do not respond rudely to users in discussion pages. Thank you, ZooFari 01:01, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

When TWO _ADMINS_ respond ridiculously uncivilly and rudely to _me_ (and others), I'm pretty well disinclined to be civil to them. ¦ Reisio (talk) 01:26, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Can you give me a link to where this happened? Of course, rude admins are a big deal but I don't see evidence of your claims. And no, you aren't inclined to rudely respond regardless of the user's behavior. ZooFari 02:47, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

...right here, how'd you miss it?

SVG Request

Hi Zoo. Could you vectorize this (it's a fair use logo at Wikipedia) and remove the box around it? I only want the circular seal. Thanks much! upstateNYer 16:53, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Quick (I think) fix

Can you revert File:Census-2000-Data-Top-US-Ancestries-by-County.svg back one revision and crop it so the text doesn't jumble? Thanks. upstateNYer 00:46, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

The elements were just hidden, so I trimmed all that out. Unfortunately, it didn't resolve the text problem, mainly because it is modifiable. I'm not sure how the uploader achieved the proper rendering but the only thing I know is to convert the text. ZooFari 05:01, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Judith and Holofernes

Your restoration project is ready (or will be in a few minutes: it's uploading as I type this) at File:Gustave_Doré_-_The_Holy_Bible_-_Judith_XIV_-_Judith_showing_the_head_of_Holofernes_-_original.png. All I ask is that you A. Keep more-or-less that crop (you could crop a bit more at the bottom) and B. Upload your finished project as both PNG and JPEG (you may need to PNGCrush it for the first one). Adam Cuerden (talk) 21:17, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

It's a pretty good scan. teensy bit of blur in the extreme lower left that'll need edited out, and the usual small things to fix. Nothing too horrible. Adam Cuerden (talk) 02:59, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Albany County maps

I know we worked on these a while back, but we never added all the municipal boundaries. Start with File:AlbanyCounty Albany.svg and use this to add all the municipal boundaries (the orangy lines in the link). Update the Albany map (mentioned in the last sentence) and let me know when you're done. Then we can do the rest of the Albany County maps. Then we can add NYS to the maps like File:RensselaerCounty Troy with NY.svg (making new versions). The villages in Albany County are Altamont, Voorheesville, Ravena, Menands, and Colonie (village) (these should be dotted lines like the Rensselaer County maps). The cities are Albany, Cohoes, and Watervliet. Green Island, for our purposes, is a town. Note File:Green Island Albany.png; the external link I gave you above is confusing on this. Green Island is only the island part of district 17. Let me know what you think. upstateNYer 00:08, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Alright, I've updated the Albany map. Anything missing? Would Green Island be dotted? ZooFari 05:17, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
Perfect! I believe town trumps village. Even though Green Island is both, we'll leave it as a solid line. So if you can update the others and create the versions with the State included, that would be great. Thanks for the update! upstateNYer 01:29, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Do you want me to create the maps for the additional locations as well? ZooFari 01:34, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, for all the areas we now have created in the county, if you could. upstateNYer 01:56, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Okey doke. Here's Albany's map with NY. I kept the size proportion the same as to the one in Rensselaer's, except the width is a little longer because, well, Albany county is wider. Would this be okay? ZooFari 02:03, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Actually that's Rensselaerville, but it's exactly what I'm looking for. Just upload the Albany one over that and it will be fine; no need for deletion. upstateNYer 02:05, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
What? ZooFari 02:07, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
You have the town of Rensselaerville highlighted in that file, not Albany. Also, the eastern border of Rensselaer County doesn't exist; must have happened because you reused the same map and did some tweaking. upstateNYer 02:08, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
The hhighlight is fixed, but the border is an issue with the other maps as well? ZooFari 02:11, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

← As far as I can tell, after refreshing a bunch of times, the highlighting is still wrong. I'm talking about the town in the bottom left corner; it shouldn't be red. The city of Albany should. Compare to this (look at them next to each other and you'll see the difference). And the border I'm talking about is the right-side border of the whole state, not the county. It must be from when you changed Rensselaer County back to blue instead of red. upstateNYer 02:14, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh, you were right about the county highlight. I just looked at the upload history. So yes, that was issue number one to resolve, which is corrected. Now is the town/city issues (Rensselaerville → Albany) and then the line on the right side of Rensselaer County, which you correctly unhighlighted in the second upload. Sorry for the confusion, I didn't realize that error until just now. upstateNYer 02:20, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Much better! Now you may go from there! upstateNYer 02:24, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Ok, but still confused about the border? The issue still stands on the Rensselaer maps, but you said it was only with this particular map. ZooFari 02:26, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
No, it's fine now; it's also okay in the Rensselaer County maps because the county is red and you can't tell anyway. upstateNYer 02:28, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Done! Let me know if you need anything else. Maybe later we can tackle another county :). I now know these by heart!! ZooFari 21:58, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
File:AlbanyCounty Colonie with NY.svg should look more like File:Colonie town Albany.png. Cohoes, Green Island, and Watervliet should not be red in it (only dotted lined municipalities are part of towns). upstateNYer 22:58, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Fixed. Anything else? ZooFari 23:05, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

←Everything looks great! Would you mind creating a version of File:Rensselaer County New York 2.svg for Albany County? Same color scheme would be great. Sometime in the near future we can start on the maps for Saratoga County. You asked for it! :) upstateNYer 23:11, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

File:AlbanyCounty Map.svg - Hope that works. And yes, I'll work on Saratoga the next time I get bored :) ZooFari 01:02, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Another (should be quick) SVG request

I know the Albany County maps will take some time, so don't feel rushed. The one for the city of Albany would be needed first, I think, please. In addition, can you vectorize this symbol? Thanks! upstateNYer 02:06, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, haven't forgotten about your request. I'm backlogged right now, things going on at OTRS and in real life. I'll vectorize the logo today, since it's a simple task. However, I might have to work with the maps till later this week. ZooFari 02:12, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
That's fine. When did you become an OTRS agent? upstateNYer 21:03, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
About a month ago. Here you go! Let me know if that works. ZooFari 01:22, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
Excellent! Can I bother you for one other version? Can you squash it in the left-right direction and stretch it in the vertical direction so that it is almost square? (Not quite, I don't want it to look too warped, but I'd like a version that's not so wide). upstateNYer 03:36, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

hello ZooFari. I understand your explanation, but the problem is deeper. The photos do not belong to me: it's not me who took these pictures. I mistakenly posted these photos on Flickr, with an incorrect setting license (Creative Commons). Now, not only the license is wrong, but most photos do not belong to me. It would abolish the four photos I marked for deletion. SorenShaman (talk)

Template:Rename

Did you, as a filemover, see the extra paragraph? I think the reason the quick modify link doesn't work is that &function=replace&oldimage=Rename&newimage=New_name.jpg&replace_reason=File_renamed might only be defined for CommonsDelinker/commands. I'll have a look later where that function is defined & correct it if possible. --DieBuche (talk) 14:52, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

The filemover link worked fine, I think, but something in your edit broke how the categories work. It categorised files that should be Category:Media renaming requests needing target in Category:Media requiring renaming. Maybe you miscounted some brackets, or the template has a bug (unneeded bracket) somewhere in the parser function. I'll have to find the source, filemovers could use that link :). btw congrats on your adminship :-) ZooFari 15:00, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Ok, thanks--DieBuche (talk) 15:20, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

I fixed the mediwiki js. If you clear your browser cache, you should be able to use the quick adding link on the talk page as well. --DieBuche (talk) 19:59, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Doesn't want to work for me, it just opens up the edit form. ZooFari 20:05, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
What browser are u using? Could u try to go here und clear your cache on that page. Btw, I cleaned up the template, as far as i can tell it now works in all situations & categorizes correctly--DieBuche (talk) 09:32, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Doesn't work for neither Firefox or Safari. Also, media needing target is being categorised with media needing renaming. I tried shifting the categories as you did during the cleanup, but I found that they need to stay outside the template to prevent parallel categorisation (at least until that template gets a pretty good cleanup). ZooFari 14:10, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
How do you mean? right now its: rename sorts to Category:Media renaming requests needing target & Category:Incomplete media renaming requests, newname.jpg sort to Category:Incomplete media renaming requests and newname.jpg sorts to Category:Media requiring renaming. Should it work differently?--DieBuche (talk) 16:01, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Rename is sorting both in Category:Media renaming requests needing target and Category:Media requiring renaming, but it should only be Category:Media renaming requests needing target. ZooFari 19:37, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Scratch that, I was looking at it the wrong way. Aside from the filemover link, it works great. Well done. ZooFari 19:53, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Also, maybe we should create a category for those without reasons, that way they aren't mixed with no targets? Perhaps Category:Media renaming requests needing target and Category:Media renaming requests without a reason as subcats of Category:Incomplete media renaming requests? Or maybe get rid of Category:Incomplete media renaming requests and have everything be subcats of Category:Media requiring renaming. Currently I'm not in favor that no-reasons aren't sorted completely separate from the others. ZooFari 19:59, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi ZooFari. The oxygen atoms are misaligned. Can you please fix that? --Leyo 16:58, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Like so? ZooFari 19:19, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
I do not see any significant difference, sorry. There should be a (virtual) horizontal axis of reflexion. That is not the case so far. --Leyo 08:06, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
The two Os are vertically aligned, horizontally mirrored. ZooFari 20:08, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
That's not standard procedure in chemical diagrams, though: To simplify the explanation: in this case, the top and bottom of the ring should mirror each other vertically, and the bottom is correct, not the top. Adam Cuerden (talk) 20:26, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, how about now? ZooFari 20:52, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
It's OK now, thank you. --Leyo 21:04, 2 June 2010 (UTC) PS. Do you draw such structural formulae freehand, i.e. not in a program like ChemDraw or BKChem?
I start it off using BKChem, but they usually need to be tweaked, which I do on Inkscape. ZooFari 21:06, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Remove template after renaming

Hey ZooFari, please remove the rename-template after you have renamed the image. That would be great otherwise we check some files doubled! Regards Körnerbrötchen » 21:35, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm working on it. Also, you should add Category:Icons for railway descriptions/obsolete redirect to the left over redirects of BSicon images. Cheers, ZooFari 21:37, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, you'r right! Körnerbrötchen » 07:08, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Also there is no need to sign in cases like this [1] since the bot do not care and it only leaves more stuff to cleanup :-) --MGA73 (talk) 17:12, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Should they never be signed? If so I guess we should remove it from the rename template. ZooFari 17:17, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
You can signe "inside" a rename-tag so we can see who has suggested the rename. But there is no reason to sign the command on the "bot page". It is not added when I do it [2]. --MGA73 (talk) 18:53, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Hello.
Due to Archaeodontosaurus help, I have uploaded a new (and improved, I hope!) version of this file. Could you please review it and maybe change your opinion ? Many thanks.--Jebulon (talk) 21:09, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for creating this excellent all-in-one review script. It makes reviewing files much easier. I found a scenario where it does not work. File:González Durántez.jpg and File:González Durántez-2.jpg had the Picasareview tag embedded within a Self license tag. The script looks like it runs but does not change the picasareview tab. I can't imagine that this will happen very often but wanted to let you know. Thanks again for the script. --Captain-tucker (talk) 10:17, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I'll see if I can fix that bug, but it should be a rare occurence. Thanks, ZooFari 16:27, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Adminship

You should be a Commons admin. May I please nominate you? If you respond would you please leave a talkback on my enwiki talk page? Thanks. ~NerdyScienceDude () 14:29, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your offer. I suppose I could use the tools, I would accept a nomination from you :). ZooFari 17:49, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Sweet. I feel you're really up to the job--DieBuche (talk) 19:48, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Here you go: Commons:Administrators/Requests/ZooFari 2. ~NerdyScienceDude () 20:47, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, accepted. ZooFari 05:39, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

need your opinion on this

Since their creation, Burma, Laos, Ethiopia and Iran have had their emblems here at Commons-I support this under some idea of PD-old, as the first two are totally defunct and the last two are often defunct, reborn and tottering. Cuba should probably be here for the same rationale. However, File:Bandalag íslenskra skáta 1940s.svg, though it is old, has always plagued me, I think it probably doesn't count as Iceland's Scouting is continuous. I think it should only be at en:wp, what think you? If you have the same concerns, please help, I have tried to mess with svgs and they don't work for me.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 12:19, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Same with File:Persatuan Pandu Puteri Malaysia.svg, which is a present use badge that should not be here.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 12:26, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
File:Bandalag íslenskra skáta 1940s.svg was already at en:wiki as fair use, so I tagged it for deletion. As for File:Persatuan Pandu Puteri Malaysia.svg, another Wikipedia, in which I'm not an autoconfirmed user, is using it so it can't be deleted from Commons until someone from that Wikipedia transfers it. I would upload it to en:wiki, but it would have to be under a different name. ZooFari 14:43, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
