TJ Ryba (talk) 19:41, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Zdravotnicka zachranna sluzba.jpg[edit]

--Midi7 (talk) 17:29, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ano, možné to je. Interiér jsem neviděl. --Snek01 (talk) 21:14, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
--Midi7 (talk) 00:29, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
To jsem si myslel, že je správně. Ale nemůžu tyto informace doložit ani vyvrátit. Uprav tedy popisy fotek. Díky. --Snek01 (talk) 07:54, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

reply on your comments[edit]

Yes Snek01, I am fully aware that the comma officially stands between author and year. The problem with this, is that people who are not insiders, the regular internet viewers, cannot always distinguish species and variety name with the author name. E.g. Lyria kurodai Kawamura, 1964. Or: Latiaxis teramachii Kuroda, 1959. People might interpret this as the Kawamura form of L. kurodai, or the Kuroda form of L. teramachii, which was discovered in 1964 or 1959. Why should the author be mentioned in the part where the name of the genus, species and subspecies is given? The official notation is nothing more than confusing for regular viewers, not user friendly. However, this way is also used: Latiaxis teramachii (Kuroda 1959). For the other part, I will pick only one category in the future. MerlinCharon (talk) 03:29, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

another, more serious reply[edit]

O yes, and Snek01, I would like you to put the interpunction back the way it was and not interfere with my descriptions of the photographs. I find this really disturbing, and an intrusion on my work. MerlinCharon (talk) 03:35, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

possible filing of complaint![edit]

Snek01, I don't need you to tell me how I should or should not write sentences. Don't patronize me please. The point is that your intrusions are an act of intolerance, disguised as professionalism. You messed up my texts mister! Even to the point that your alterations do not follow your own 'wise words' any more! Change it back the way I wrote it and keep away from me. I mean it. Else I will file a complaint this evening about your behaviour, so I would recommend: hurry up!MerlinCharon (talk) 14:21, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Scientific journals/images from journals categories[edit]

Hi, you probably need to notify User:ŠJů and User:Jacklee. They built this system with lots of categories, while you built yours. Their system starts at Category:Serials, periodicals and journals, and uses the metacategory system of Category:Media which is different from yours. They don't use "Images from journals" because their "Serials, periodicals and journals" contains almost only images form journals.

The note at Category:Journals would requre that you move everything from "Images from journals" because it is miscategorized. But I think everything down from "Serials, periodicals and journals" needs to be reorganized, there is no way to have both your proposal and that of ŠJů and Jacklee at the same time. They use completely different category naming conventions. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 03:01, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I would not expect that move simple category would require so many months! So I have explained it in more comprehensive way: Category talk:Scientific journals#Explanation of move request. --Snek01 (talk) 09:47, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dobrý den Snek01, I saw the picture in the german WP in de:Syenit and have a question. What do you mean by "syenite"? The rock looks like a microgabbro (czech: mikrogabro) from Šluknov. The commercial name of the black building stone from Šluknov is "Šluknovský syenit" (see: Václav Rybařík: Ušlechtilé stavební a sochařské kameny České Republiky. Hořice v. Podkrkonoší 1994, strana 56-57). This commercial name is traditional. The petrografic/scientific term by the stone from Šluknov is microgabbro (see en:Gabbro). This is often a misunderstanding. Syenite and (micro)gabbro are very different rocks. A syenite is not completely black. Do you have any information about the origin of the rock (socha Františka Polívky)? Thank you very much and ahoi :-) --Lysippos (talk) 17:52, 1 October 2011 (UTC) ps: [1] [2][reply]

Hello, thank you for your interesting message. I have added the reference to the image description and the reference mentioned the "syenite". The reference does not mention, where the material comes from. Unfortunately I am not familiar with that material and I am unable to confirm or to disconfirm what material it really is. Have a nice day. --Snek01 (talk) 20:33, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi SnekO1, thanks for the refernce. The Czech sculptors have applied since 1918 in many cases Czech stones. This practice corresponded with the new self-consciousness of the nation. In the global economic crisis after 1928 there were very few purchases of raw materials from abroad. The structure of the rock and the kind of sculptural treatment is an indication of the high density Mikrogabbro. In the Czech Republic, there is no economic deposit of regular en:syenite (petrografic term). For these reasons, the use of "Šluknovský syenit" (in the language of masons short: "Syenit") is very likely. I've seen the rock itself in many places in the architecture and cemeteries of the Czech Republic. I would like to adjust the picture in the articles "de:Gabbro" and "de:Ganggestein" (žilná hornina). That's why I asked about the rock. Are you agree if I change the description of the file?
My advice for the description: "Czech botanist and educator František Polívka (1860-1923) - the statue of "syenite" ("Šluknovský syenit") on the granite base is in Smetanovy sady park in Olomouc. It was made by Julius Pelikán in 1933.[1] [2]
[2]: http://www.geology.cz/app/eurolithos/dk_cz.pl?tt_=s&iddk_=10146
Have a nice day. Lysippos (talk) 11:24, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, based on your informations I would improve description like this:

... statue of diabase (geologic term) = microgabbro (vernacular term) ("syenite" is an abbreviated term in the language of masons. This statue is very likely from "Šluknovský syenit" (brand name), that is an diabase.) on the granite base ...

Is it all right? And we should recategorize the statue to the category Diabase. Let's change the description to be as precise as possible. Thank you for your help with the material identification. --Snek01 (talk) 12:50, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, very good suggestion! Diabase is the term for a group of dolerites also gabbroic composition. "Microgabbro" (not "vernacular term", but "alternative term", change please, see link) is in the American, French and German language (not British!) the term for a Diabas as dyke or dike rock. "Micro" says "sill" or "dyke". This is a indication for the spatial relation of the rock. Sorry fo the terribly nomenclature (standard of en:IUGS from the year 2002): Diabase see here: [3] I agree. A lot of thanks :-) --Lysippos (talk) 14:06, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thx Snek. Maybe I should calm down. I was surprised to find individuals with different colors on the same plant. Maybe they just like to cross with different colors. I assumed that they were different species, but probably they were all Cepaea nemoralis. Regards --Chris.urs-o (talk) 16:33, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Socha sv.

File:Rhopilema nomadica.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Invalid source for File:Mollusca ancestor.jpg[edit]

Please properly use the "source" field[edit]

Hi Snek01,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons! It looks like a file you uploaded to Commons has an invalid entry indicated for its "Source" on File:Mollusca ancestor.jpg. It is important that the |Source= field, which is the record of where a file came from, be accurate and as machine-readable as possible so that others can verify its license and be able to reuse the file under the correct terms. For example, sources such as "Me", "Self" or "My camera" should be replaced with the template {{Own}}; sources such as "Google", "The Internet", etc. are not considered valid and may result in deletion of the file. If you did not generate the file yourself, then you may want to revisit the file and be as specific as you can in identifying your source: ideally, this might be a stable link to the exact webpage that the image or file came from, or perhaps the title, year, and page number of the book where you found it (a link to a website in general is not usually considered specific enough, nor is simply restating the name of the author). For guidance on indicating your source please visit the page COM:SOURCE.

It looks like this image originally had a correct source field but now the link is no longer functioning. Without a valid source, other editors cannot check and verify that a given image is in fact within the public domain. Do you think you can fix this? Please give it a shot. Thank you! Hello! I've found your conversation with Carl Lindberg here. Seems to me the problem finally got solved. There's some data on the birth and residence here and here. The death year and age (1908, 68) found by Carl brilliantly fit with 1840 birth year. That's why I think that Mintern Brothers are Robert (artist, 1840–1908) and Joseph Barter (litographer, 1848–1877). Some of the latest Robert's works were also signed by his son Robert E. Mintern (1859–19??). Mithril (talk) 11:14, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

hi, the plaster here is from a paleolithic head. don hitchcock f. i. calls it: "The Mammoth Ivory Female head from Dolni Vestonice Known as the Dolni Vestonice Venus XV". see: http://donsmaps.com/dolnivenus.html

your photo shows a plaster, not very near to the original. the designation "da vinci" is extremely misleading, because it points to leonardo (da vinci), who has really nothing to do with it. best Mr. bobby (talk) 12:01, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

it would be nice if you changed the title of the picture Mr. bobby (talk) 19:19, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading some images! Did you know that Wikimedia Commons recommends the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format for certain types of images? Scalable Vector Graphics are designed to look appropriate at any scale, and SVG images are easier to modify and translate, helping Wikimedia to distribute knowledge to all of the world. A lot of modern programs support SVG export. If you encountered problems or have questions, don't hesitate to ask me, a member of the Graphic Lab, or the Graphics village pump. Uploading images in SVG format isn't mandatory, but it would help. (To avoid any misunderstandings, please don't just put raster images into an SVG container as embedded raster.) Thanks, and happy editing!

Category discussion warning

Extinct Animalia has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Hello my friend,
I did the modification (see here).
Sadly, we need to wait for wikicommons to recalculate the categories.
I did a manual modification of Category:Families_of_Perciformes, and you can see the result in Category:Acanthuridae.

Dear uploader of European Science Photo Competition 2015 and Wiki Science Competition 2017 and Wiki Science Competition 2019, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started in the whole world. It is now completed in Russia (active in May), but it's still open in almost all the other countries.

If you want to take part in WSC2021, please consult this page. Only some national categories are associated to competitions with local prizes.

If you are an expert user, we remind you that images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface.

Please keep in mind that there is a new category this year, that is "astronomy".

If you already took part in a country that has completed its upload phase, please consider improving the description in English of your files (click on the edit button), since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them. World finalists will be finalized after March 2020.

Sorry for bothering you and have a nice wiki.

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open![edit]

2022 Picture of the Year: Saint John Church of Sohrol in Iran.

Read this message in your language

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
