Hi! Please see this file and its EXIF: File:Harkány- Gyógyfürdő légi.jpg. Am I know well this EXIF denotes that this photo is from the internet? --Regasterios (talk) 14:38, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Demande d'avis

Bonjour, Yann.

Auriez-vous l'amabilité de nous faire part de votre avis dans le cadre de la demande de suppression de ce fichier, s'il vous plaît ?

I need a license review for two images. Could you please help?

Hello Yann,

You might remember that I nominated many files for deletion several years ago. Last night (here in the US) I uploaded two photos to Commons, with a pending license review tag. I had not uploaded a picture using this method in a very long time, so I hope I did it right. Could you please review the files? Here they are: File:The Gothard Sisters in 2018 with white flowers in the background.jpg and File:The Gothard Sisters in 2018 performing indoors with their musical instruments, some of which are behind them.jpg. They both have the same source (a web page). If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will find a small gallery of photos, and if you click on the photos they show that they have been released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license, as I stated. That is the official website of The Gothard Sisters. I would really appreciate your help very much. All the best... Dontreader (talk) 18:28, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it would be good to provide solid proof that the website that I used as the source is the official website of the Gothard Sisters. Notice that their Facebook page is a verified page, and the website that is listed is the same as the website that is the source of the images that I uploaded [1]. Many thanks in advance, and have a great day... Dontreader (talk) 19:44, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification on the extent of free use of Images

Hi Yann. I'm Adithya. I'm panning to upload several images to represent various judges of the supreme court of India, but their extent of free use troubles me. The images in question are in https://www.sci.gov.in/chief-justice-judges . Are they free to upload in Wikipedia and if so is Government Open Data License - India (GODL) [ https://data.gov.in/sites/default/files/Gazette_Notification_OGDL.pdf ] suitable? Adithya pergade (talk) 18:24, 16 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, these images are fine under {{GODL-India}}. Please provide correctly the author (SCI), date, and source. Regards, Yann (talk) 04:47, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Wikimedia Commons Academy/Example

Maybe it's better to create Commons:Wikimedia Commons Academy/Example based on what you want "a standard training programme" to look like, kind of like how User:Example functions. As Wikimedia Commons is a multilingual project you could also create the example page in 20 (twenty) or so popular languages from India like Hindustani, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Bengali, Etc. So people who do want to contribute to Wikimedia Commons but don't have advanced English language skills can also learn about copyright © in their language. Was the Wikimedia Commons Academy thought of in a real life event? If so other people who want to help new users could do the translations in any of the aforementioned languages as I'm not sure which South Asian languages you speak (but I guess that you probably speak the more popular ones).

Where are the participants recruited by the way? In real life or through this website? Because maybe you could send a mass invite to people with more than 500 (five-hundred) but less than 10.000 (ten-thousand) edits as not all potential participants might regularly read the Village Pump. Anyhow, that's my feedback for now, good luck finding participants. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 09:54, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Donald Trung: Hi, Thanks for your message.
At this point, it is still in the design stage. I am now the only trainer, but hopefully more people will join. So it will be done in English at the start, with potentially more languages later. I can only handle a few trainees at a time, so more trainers are needed to extend the project.
My intent now is more general information to people already contributing to Commons. It would be great to extend this project, not only in India, but other areas and languages. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:46, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Contributions from Vasily Levanov and Adrew Knowl

A light look at the contributions from special:Contributions/Vasily Levanov and special:Contributions/Adrew Knowl looks like we are being used promotionally for their products, and solely for their product rather than generally trying to improve Commons

Advice needed

Hi Yann, I need advice on how to move forward with Commons:Village pump/Copyright#Splitting up Commons:Copyright rules by territory. I saw it as a fairly simple and uncontroversial proposal. The initial feedback has been positive, with some good points on how it should be implemented. But after 7 days I have two strong "I don't like it" votes. Should I just declare a clear majority in support, no serious problems identified, and go ahead and implement it? Or would that create a storm of controversy and edit wars? I spend most of my time on Wikipedia, and am not familiar with the way things work round here. What do you think? Aymatth2 (talk) 14:20, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
I think that at least a majority of people supports your proposal, and I find it good. After all the information is split, the main page should be a list of links, and we can have a transcluded list (with a warning that the page is huge, and that's will be slow to load).
The point made is by RP88 is valid though. The pages for small countries may not be watched by anyone, and questions would stay unseen. So redirects for them would make sense. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:56, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that feedback. I will go ahead and start making the sub-pages.
  • The transcluded list really will be huge, because I expect that when I do clean-up I will flesh out most of the pages with standard stuff like links to the WIPO pages and IP law documents, country-specific tags, a little infobox giving the key terms and so on. I was vaguely thinking of making five transcluded lists: Europe, Asia, Americas, Africa and Oceania, but it is probably best not to add any complications at this stage.
  • Let me think about the talk pages. I will be watching them all, at least to start with. Pages like the UK and US obviously will need their own talk pages. I suspect there will be unexpected areas of activity, like the debate at Template talk:PD-Chile. Maybe there are some contributors interested Latin America or the post-Soviet states. Who knows? If there is no activity for a few weeks though, I can add a little template to the talk page suggesting they raise questions on the main talk page – or just redirect it.
Thanks again for the feedback. Aymatth2 (talk) 19:13, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Accidental overwrite with the uploadwizard

Long story, accidental overwrite...can you please delete the old version that is completely unrelated to the current image?

Cordialement, --Poudou99 (talk) 08:36, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pete Davidson

Commons:Undeletion requests/Archive#File:Pete Davidson in shopping mall.jpg

Can you evaluate CoughingCookieHeart's photo without sharing it with the whole OTRS team? I have seen the original and I believe it is a selfie that he took with Davidson, but you have to see his face for that. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 11:02, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@CoughingCookieHeart: would it be okay for Yann to have the whole photo? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 11:04, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Why not asking the OTRS team? It exists precisely for that purpose. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:00, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No matter how many privacy agreements OTRS members have signed, I understand perfectly well why CoughingCookieHeart prefers not to share a photo of themselves with 273 people. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 01:54, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Alexis Jazz: Why did they share it with you?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 05:44, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: I made two suggestions on Commons:Deletion requests/File:Pete Davidson.jpg, the first being to send it to Yann. The second was to send it to me, I would censor it and send the censored version (that perfectly proved Pete Davidson didn't take the photo, which was the main concern) to the whole OTRS team. CoughingCookieHeart went with that option. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 06:47, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Juggling on the Berlin Wall

Please do not undo my work relating the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall was part of the German Democratic Republic. It was a building in the GDR. The GDR did not build the wall anywhere else than on the territory of the GDR. So if the Wall is in a picture, this is a building of the GDR although the photographer was situated western of the Wall.--Bluemel1 (talk) 17:07, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
Well no. This category should only be used for East side of the Wall, otherwise it is meaningless. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:13, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just trying to separate East Germany pictures from West Germany Pictures, I don't think it is so important where that files are. Some pictures from the West only show the GDR and so I took them to GDR, but in the end there could be a long discussion about a thing that isn't that important. The most important thing is that the other pictures which are distinct West or distinct East Germany are stocked correctly. Greetings.--Bluemel1 (talk) 17:35, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Multilingual captions beta testing

The Structured Data on Commons team has begun beta testing of the first feature, multilingual file captions, and all community members are invited to test it out. Captions is based on designs discussed with the community[9][10] and the team is looking forward to hearing about testing. If all goes well during testing, captions will be turned on for Commons around the second week of January, 2019.

Multilingual captions are plain text fields that provide brief, easily translatable details of a file in a way that is easy to create, edit, and curate. Captions are added during the upload process using the UploadWizard, or they can be added directly on any file page on Commons. Adding captions in multiple languages is a simple process that requires only a few steps.

The details:

  • There is a help page available on how to use multilingual file captions.
  • Testing will take place on Beta Commons. If you don’t yet have an account set up there, you’ll need one.
  • Beta Commons is a testbed, and not configured exactly like the real Commons site, so expect to see some discrepancies with user interface (UI) elements like search.
  • Structured Data introduces the potential for many important page changes to happen at once, which could flood the recent changes list. Because of this, Enhanced Recent Changes is enabled as it currently is at Commons, but with some UI changes.
  • Feedback and commentary on the file caption functionality are welcome and encouraged on the discussion page for this post.
  • Some testing has already taken place and the team are aware of some issues. A list of known issues can be seen below.
  • If you discover a bug/issue that is not covered in the known issues, please file a ticket on Phabricator and tag it with the “Multimedia” tag. Use this link to file a new task already tagged with "Multimedia."

Thanks!

Copyright question about Eichmann

Hi Yann, I'm sorry to come to you with another question about copyright. Would you mind looking at this image of Adolf Eichmann, w:File:Eichmann,_Adolf.jpg, on the English Wikipedia and its rationale?

We've had to claim fair use for it, but it keeps being threatened, so I'd like to upload it to Commons. Can you see any way in which it might be free? It looks like an official image, was taken in or around 1942, and was probably "published" then in the sense that it appears to be an official ID photograph. You can see the holes punched in it in another version. Yad Vashem describes it as "Eichmann, RSHA (Reich Central Security Office), 1942, Collection Archive, Yad Vashem Archives." Hoping you can think of something. SarahSV (talk) 02:45, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SarahSV,
I think this kind of images should be in Commons. There has been some deletion requests about these (Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mala Zimetbaum (1918-1944).jpg, restored recently, Commons:Deletion requests/File:Selection Birkenau ramp.jpg). {{Anonymous-EU}} should be OK for this. I found a higher resolution on [11]. See also Commons:Village pump/Archive/2015/02#Auschwitz Album and Commons:Village pump/Copyright/Archive/2015/02#URAA on WWII photos of Nazi extermination camps. Regards, Yann (talk) 07:27, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Yann, thank you for the help. I've uploaded it to File:Adolf Eichmann, 1942.jpg, but I'm not certain about the US tag. The images in the Category:Auschwitz Album are fine (when challenged, they've been kept), but for some reason people keep challenging this Eichmann image, here on Commons and on enwiki. copyright violations

Hello, Yann.

I appreciate the message and Wikipedia Commons's stance on copyright violation, but the three images I uploaded yesterday were taken by me. When I uploaded them to Wikipedia Commons I clicked the box that the pictures are my work because they are my work.

These pictures have been used elsewhere for other purposes, but all three are my work.

Can you please explain where the copyright violation occurred?

Best, Joseph Petrik — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joseph Petrik (talk • contribs) 15:08, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Joseph Petrik: Hi,
The images were published elsewhere before being imported to Commons, so you need to send a permission to COM:OTRS, or better and faster, add a mention of a free license (CC-BY-SA-4.0) on the source website. It would also be better if you upload the original unmodified images with full EXIF data. Please sign your message. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:14, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

taking new images of Lila Kari, Ian Goldberg and Srinivasan Keshav for existing wikipedia profiles

Hello, Yann.

I think it will be easier if I take new pictures of the three professors (Lila Kari, Ian Goldberg and Srinivasan Keshav), as they are all here at the university today.

I do appreciate the need to enforce standards, but I have to say that as a newbie to this process I've not found Wikipedia a collegial and welcoming place.

My reason for posting the picture was simply to augment and improve existing profiles.

Abiding by the copyright laws for uploading New Pictures

Hello Yann: I recently tried uploading a couple of files of pictures from Google so I could use them for Khan Academy. I didn't know I was violating copyright laws, as I had filled out the required fields and Put that Google was the author, as I had no Idea who the actual author was. Do I have to put a URL to the actual website it came from??? Yours truly, Lindjosh. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lindjosh (talk • contribs) 18:34, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Lindjosh: Hi,
You are not allowed to copy from the Internet, unless you have a formal written permission for a free license from the copyright holder. Regards, Yann (talk) 05:32, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading photos with permission from the owner

Hello Yann, I uploaded two photos that were given to me to use by the owner of the photo. As far as I'm concern there are no copyright issues with those photos. I was not aware if the photos were used somewhere else in their present form.

Thanks

@Tastes like lead: Hi,

Hi. To remove the ambiguity of the double negative in your initial closure, would you please consider rephrasing? Also, what effect do you think your closure should have on Commons:Country specific consent requirements#Brazil?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:23, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jeff G: Hi Jeff,
OK, I changed the wording to remove the double negative, and I added a note in the policy page. Is it OK? Regards, Yann (talk) 12:03, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The decision to close was clearly wrong! You did not mention any reasons against the countless ethical and commonsrules arguments for deletion. Also it doesnt have to be shown that it violates the current practice, only that it violates the law. And if someone thinks that case law in brazil is different from written law, its his turn to proof that! Please undo this decision. --Johannesfff (talk) 12:13, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but no. AFAICT, the law in Brazil is not applied as you say, that's the point. If you demonstrate at least one case which would show otherwise, I might reconsider, but you didn't so far. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:23, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Why would i be the one who has to proof something? There are no sources wich say that brazilian law is not applied as written down! And what about all the other reasons for deletion that were mentionend? You didnt mention them at all. --Johannesfff (talk) 12:32, 21 December 2018 (UTC)--Johannesfff (talk) 12:32, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Because you are the one asking for deletion. You have to demonstrate at least that your reasoning is inline with current legal practice. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:44, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This is ridiculous (imagine this would be applied to every deletion request). If someting is written down in law its enough unless proofen otherwise. And what about the other reasons for deletion ???????????????????????? --Johannesfff (talk) 12:53, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, you do not seem to understand law very well, and please read Commons:Non-copyright restrictions. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:35, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What about the other reasons for deletion ???????????????????????? If you didnt consider them please undo your decision! --Johannesfff (talk) 13:41, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. My !vote was based on the letter of the law, rather than what we (or a particular state in Brazil) can get away with.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 01:30, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Just to be clear, my decision is not because "we can get away with". If the government of Brazil itself has published the picture, it probably means that the application of the law is quite different to what some people claim to be. I would reconsider if the picture is deleted at the source because of personality rights. Regards, Yann (talk) 05:24, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wich is still not proofen. Commons:Project scope/Evidence actually says that the ones voting to keep have the burden of proof, not the other way around. And as stated in the discussion aleready, its not even relevant because commonsrules require consent in any way, wich would be the rule after wich you should decide. Even Admins can not simply ignore rules. And if the other reasons for deletion were not considered in your decision to keep, im going to create new deletion requestes for each ruleviolation individually. --Johannesfff (talk) 08:19, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Without any further statement about the image and its legal status, I have to say that I'm really concerned about the behaviour of Johannesfff during the whole time of that RfD and after. He seems not to respect any opinion in favour of keeping the photo on Commons. He tried to canvass an admin on German Wikipedia to get the RfD closed as deleted. He wrote to me "Are you crazy?" and "None of your comments make any sense!" as a reply to my very legitimate statement against weapon violence. He seems to consider himself (for whatever reason) as kind of implacable advocate of that indigenous people and is not willing to tolerate any other opinion. His extensive usage of question marks only confirms his missing emotional distance to the whole topic. He is hardly showing any other activities on Commons rather than those related to this RfD. This very much appears to me like we have here yet another "man on a mission" or a single-purpose account who is not at all interested on any other cooperation. Given that, this account actually should be blocked indefinitely. --A.Savin 15:18, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You didnt make a statement against violence, you denied their right to defend themselfes. Of course im trying accomplish the consideration of personality rights of indigenous people and commonsrules, wich would normally be your job as an admin, but you seem to be to busy threatening people with indefinete blocks for stating moral objections in a discussion. --Johannesfff (talk) 16:37, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Johannesfff: A.Savin made a good point above, so STOP. Yann (talk) 16:39, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

René Péan

Bonjour Yann.

Bien cordialement, LIONEL76 (talk) 11:45, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@LIONEL76: Bonjour,
Merci encore. Bien cordialement, LIONEL76 (talk) 12:14, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Yann. I would like you to restore that file. It is not a copyright violation because the campaign for the SÍ (Yes) option in the Chilean national plebiscite of 1988 was organized, financed and, in all, made by the General Secretariat of Government, which currently is a ministry. This can be referenced by several sources. The Constitution of 1980, in its eighth article, says that "all acts and resolutions by the State of Chile are public [domain]"; however, in 2011 the Government licensed its contents as CC-BY. That is the license I used. Thanks in advance. --küñall (nütramyen) 12:16, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Küñall: HI,
There is no free license at the source, so do you have another source for this video, and for your claim about the free license? This needs a review by several admins, so you better ask on COM:UDR with that information. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:34, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Photo upload for Anton Vezuv band's wiki page

Dear Yann,

I got your message about uploading photo for the wiki page of the band Anton Vezuv. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Pityhaitt#File%3AAnton_Vezuv.jpg

It was not clear what is the exact problem with the upload and how can I resolve it. The photo (and the earlier photo) I uploaded is a photo of my band, made by photographers who are working for my record label, where I am co-owner together with the subjected photographers. I have the rights to use these photos on Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons. It was not clear how should I prove this copyright ownership, or how should I prove that the photographers gave me permission. Please help me to understand. Thank you.

✓ Done Yann (talk) 15:11, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
'Author unknown' is not listed in the license template. Only "published anonymously or under a pseudonym", which is not the same. If you want to keep the file with this rationale, you have to provide some evidence that the author wilfully did not disclose their identity. Can you please provide this missing information? Jcb (talk) 17:18, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You know very well that can never be proved. Since the author is long, how can you ask him/her that he wilfully decided to remain anonymous? Yann (talk) 17:22, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if we could e.g. show that they did not disclose their identity in the first publication, we would have least have some indication. But we have nothing of that, so there is no indication at all that this would be an anonymous work. Wishful thinking is not enough of course. If we would allow that, we could basically use 70 years from creation for all PMA+70 countries, just by not providing authorship information. Jcb (talk) 17:43, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
So, do you have any indication that this would be an anonymous work? If not, a renomination seems inevitable. Jcb (talk) 18:00, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I looked for a source, but could not find any. Since the uploader is not active for nearly 10 years, we are left in the dark... I rather take the issue in the opposite way: do we have any significant doubt that the license might be wrong? Not for me. Regards, Yann (talk) 18:04, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, we do have significant doubt. A vast majority of works is not published anonymously, so now we don't have any information at all, we have a chance of more than 50% (probably even over 90%, but I don't have statistics on that) that this is not an anonymous work. A creation date is given: 1937. This is way too recent to assume that the author must have died before 1944 (the 1942 in the template seems outdated, copyright duration is PMA+70/74 as far as I know). Jcb (talk) 18:14, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but I don't agree. Most of the works of that time were anonymous. Except for a few famous ones, photographers worked anonymously for a company, and all credits went to their employers. That IS the reality. Regards, Yann (talk) 20:43, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Only in Category:1937 in ballet, where this file belongs to, more than half of the pictures has the name of the photographer mentioned. And most of the files in the undelete in 20xx categories have a photographer and a death date. Most pictures with PD-old have a photographer and a death date and so on. Jcb (talk) 21:28, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think our files are a good sample of the usual situation, just because we don't recognize the fact that most photographers were anonymous. See similar situation here. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:11, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would not spend so much energy to try to help an obvious sockpuppet, but that aside. In the case of that UDR, there is at least some source, although I don't think that the story is plausible. But in the case of File:Irina Baronova La concurrence.jpg we have absolutely nothing. Jcb (talk) 10:45, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
We are not coming closer to each other unfortunately. Well, thanks at least that you have taken the time to discuss it. Now let's an uninvolved admin have a fresh look. Jcb (talk) 12:15, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fine. Feel free to ask on COM:VPC. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:05, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
File:Blank JPEG file, test2.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Happy New Year from User:Gone Postal.

Hello, thanks for restoring the files on Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Mercè Garcia Roca, however, you have not removed the deletion template in the file description. I would help out and do so myself, but I believe that it is better if the admin were to do that. ℺ Gone Postal ( ) 15:15, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Yann, I am Shubha from Sanskrit wikisource. I am really confused now about uploading Sanskrit texts. We always thought that there will be no problem if we upload the old texts which are published before 70 years. Accordingly we used to put tags. Here they have given guidance about License which we are following now. More than 50 files which are uploaded by me have request for deletion. Now I have updated with available data. For many of Sanskrit texts we do not know the source. We have got them from personal collections. We cannot find the date of many editors, commentators. I request you to guide us in this regard. Pranam Shubha (talk) 11:24, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Shubha: You need to add a license for India and USA: either {{PD-old-100-expired}} if the author died more than 100 years and published before 1924, or {{PD-India}} and {{PD-US-expired}} (if published before 1924) or {{PD-1996}}. I think we need more information about the authors. Regards, Yann (talk) 11:57, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann: Thank you so much for your guidance. I have fixed the license (as per my knowledge). Will you please look into these? - Shubha (talk) 07:12, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Shubha: Thanks, that's a good start. As I said, we need more information about the authors. Could you please create a category for each author and translator/editor? Ideally these should be created in Wikidata (already done if there is an article in Wikipedia), and the category linked there. Also add categories related to the type of works, date, language, etc. Example: File:प्रतिज्ञायौगन्धरायणम् (सव्याख्यम्).pdf and Category:Bhāsa, Category:T. Ganapati Sastri. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:28, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann: Thanks. Yes I will do it. Regards, Shubha (talk) 13:07, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations

I very seldom upload a completely new image. I do crop and rotate existing Wikimedia images. I do not understand the reasons for the "repeated violations" message.User-duck (talk) 05:21, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, OK, fine. I see that several of the sources you used were not OK. I removed the template. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:25, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. How do you say that it is "Unused personal image, out of scope"?It is used in a local page. Refer to the local page and description and categories to know the subject of the image --ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 08:07, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, This is only a personal gallery. It is not used in any main namespace page, Beside it is of very poor quality.
And BTW you need to answer regarding your damaging crops. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:17, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I said that is not harmful. I am not convinced of that speech but I stopped --ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 08:37, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ok - tell me with a straight face that the crop you made to File:Dubbo Zoo Cheetah (3149957810).jpg was not harmful. And that's just one of over 60 I've fixed so far - I've only looked properly at December and a few days of November. -- Begoon 09:06, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2: If you are not able to understand that your edits are actually damaging, do not do any of them. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:52, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Begoon: , Yann I've stopped following that category. For File:Dubbo Zoo Cheetah (3149957810).jpg, I have removed the borderand maybe a part has been removed by mistake but I do not think the main theme of the picture has been corrupted --ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 10:02, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2: Seriously, how can you say that you don't think that you've "corrupted" it? Please stop, you're showing that your not competent. Bidgee (talk) 10:12, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • (Edit conflict) Then, in my view, if you don't see that, in a picture where a cheetah is the "main theme", chopping off significant parts of the cheetah's tail, nose, head and foot, on all 4 edges of the picture means that "the main theme of the picture has been corrupted", you completely lack the judgement needed to be cropping any pictures at all, so, as Yann says, please don't crop any more images. Thank you. -- Begoon 10:21, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like a second view on whether FOP can be applied to this? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 16:08, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yann, you recently deleted this file. I did not see any notice of a deletion discussion, so was unable to do anything about it. The image was provided specifically for use on Wikivoyage, by the author, who is a friend, and that is now lost. Can you please provide the details of who actually uploaded it to commons and when. I do not think it was copied from flicr. Cheers, · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 18:56, 6 January 2019 (UTC) (please ping with reply)[reply]

@Pbsouthwood: Hi,
The file description says it was copied from [12], which has ARR. You can ask there for a free license, then we could restore it. Regards, Yann (talk) 07:05, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Yann, Could you copy the file description except for the file to my talk page please? this does not tie in with what I remember, but it was a long time ago. I do not believe I would have copied an ARR file. My memory says Jean sent me an e-mail with the attached file and permission to upload. Maybe someone else found the file on flicr and edited the file on Commons making the claim that it was copied, and of course it is possible that I remember wrongly - it was a long time ago. Alternatively you could restore the file for a while so I can take a look at the history for myself.
Did the deleted file not have a watermark which is not on the file on flicr? Cheers, · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 07:19, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Pbsouthwood: Here it is User:Pbsouthwood/File:Diver at bow of SATS General Botha wreck.jpg. We can trace the license history to [13]. All these images are still on your gallery on WT. I wonder if this is sufficient to keep the images. May you could ask on COM:VPC or COM:UDR? Yann (talk) 08:08, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Yann. At the time I thought that this would be sufficient, and I don't work on Wikitravel since the fork to Wikivoyage several years ago. I assume that at the time that the image was copied to Commons that either no-one noticed the inadequate licensing information, or thought, like I did, that it was OK. I will ask at VPC and see if anyone can help.
I notice that another image has been deleted, probably from the same source, though I can't check as it is gone. Cheers, · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 15:10, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Translation approval

Hi there! I need a hand. Why I can't translate page Commons:Wiki Loves Love 2019/ms to Bahasa Melayu version? It said my edits cannot be saved. It's because I need approval from translation administrator or what? Hope ASAP response from you. CyberTroopers (talk) 09:46, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind. I was misunderstood. Everything is ok now. ;) CyberTroopers (talk) 10:44, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
