I have seen somewhere that the uploader was claiming to be a close relative of the person in the picture. If he could have proven that, most of his images would have survived. Now that the user is indefinitely blocked, lets not worry about that much and get the image deleted. Thanks for the note. --Sreejith K (talk) 14:04, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Confusions

Hi Sreejithk2000,
I am facing two problems here on Wikimedia. I have contributed 3 pictures on one topic and 12 other on the other one. Basically, I had contributed 3 pictures on a device called triggertrap. They were deleted from Wikimedia. I had sent the written permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org for the three pictures of triggertrap. I created this article on Wikipedia and then asked the owner of the pictures and the inventor of the device for their permission to use those pictures on Wikimedia and Wikipedia. But they have been deleted.

Secondly, I have uploaded 12 pictures on TodiCastle. I have re written the whole page on Wikipedia because it needed a lot of improvement. I have even taken permission from the owner and sent an email of the permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, but still I got the same message. I really don't understand why the pictures are now being deleted even after I have sent the permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org for both the topics. I really need your help. Can you please guide me? I have seen the instructions on the guidelines and have added categories to the pictures but I don't understand why are they being deleted. Help Needed !!! Thank you
Inlandmamba (talk) 07:26, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about the image getting deleted. Once an OTRS volunteer confirms the email permissions are OK, those will be undeleted. OTRS system has a backlog of a few weeks, so you might have to wait for one or two weeks. If the permissions you sent are correct, rest assured that your images are coming back to Wikipedia. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:31, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sreejithk2000/Archive 4, I just found the image File:അതസിപുഷ്പങ്ങൾ.jpg on Wikimedia Commons. I do not believe that this image shows flax (Linum usitatissimum), because flax flowers have 5 recognizable petals (such as in File:Linum usitatissimum.jpg). This plant seems to have a fused corolla, in which no individual petals are recognizable. I tried moving the plant to Category:Unidentified Convolvulaceae, but the stamens look peculiar. So I reverted my edit. Knowing that you could identify a few of the plants from the Malayalam Wikipedia, which I had moved to Category:Unidentified plants, I'd be glad, if you could help me with the ID, especially because I cannot read any Malayalam and have not found any reasonable automatic translation tool for this language yet, being unable therefore to safely correct the Malayalam wikipedia pages that use the photograph. At the moment, my suggestion is moving the image to Category:Unidentified plants if you cannot find a better ID. Best regards --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 14:24, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am no expert in this. So I have put a note on the original uploader's talk page in Ml wiki. Lets see what he has to say on this. --Sreejith K (talk) 17:25, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am also in doubt. Infact I had expressed it in the talk page the very same day it was uploaded. Please feel free to do whats needed.--Arayilpdas (talk) 18:39, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to both of you. So I moved the image to Category:Unidentified plants, but I still cannot change the description or replace the image or change the respective text on any of the Malayalam pages, on which the image is used. One of the more trustworthy images of Linum usitatissimum flowers might be File:Linseed field near Castle Bytham, flowers.jpg, as it shows flowers from an actual linseed fields. There are a few (perennial) Linum species in Europe, which might be found in the wild and confused with Linum usitatissimum. Best regards --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 20:46, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly do not split the file mentioned above. I knowingly uploaded new and recent image of the Kasaragod Town. I find the new picture more perfect.

And when you make a change can you please make sure you give a reason? There is no reason to turn the links provided as a source, in a gallery. Greetings. --Angelus(talk) 15:47, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, a gallery gives a much better understanding of the images involved. If you want users to click the 15 links and check each image, you are asking for a bit too much. Anyone would prefer to see all the images together, won't they? --Sreejith K (talk) 15:52, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
First, two images (with free license) were taken from it.Wikipedia and therefore are not visible in the gallery. And then, frankly, this is also a matter of point of view, because I could say that a gallery is too cumbersome, so please, I ask you to leave things as they are. Thanks, cheers. Inaccurate coordinates

Hi, hope it's ok I ask you about this! While working with the Al Jazeera photos, I came over about 30 photos geotagged (from flickr) to exactly same location in Bangalore, while clearly originating from different locations.[2] Perhaps the coordinates were added manually to indicate the position on a country-level map, I'm not sure. Do you know what to do in such cases? I was wondering if the best would perhaps be to remove the coordinates, and just add to the description that the photos are from Bangalore (which I hope they are)? But perhaps there exists some template to flag coordinates as "inaccurate" or "needs verification" or something like that? Danmichaelo (talk) 10:48, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If the location is obviously wrong, remove the location information. If the location could be wrong or you feel that it is inaccurate, put {{Location estimated}} on that page. I live in Bangalore, so I can fix the locations if you want me to. Let me know if there are any particular images which you want me to verify the location. --Sreejith K (talk) 11:12, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I think {{Location estimated}} might be a good idea! Here's a list of the images that are all tagged at 12° 59' 18.6" N, 77° 34' 52.78" E. It's probably not so easy to verify the locations, but perhaps you recognize some places? Danmichaelo (talk) 11:49, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I do not recognize any locations in these pictures. They do not have any distinguishable trait to identify the location. I generally dislike having camera location tag when photographing people. The tag does not do any good IMHO. But I do not remove them either since there could be people who thinks the opposite. --Sreejith K (talk) 14:38, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Language identification

Oh, and could you help me identify the top language on this sign? I was thinking of categorising it somewhere in Category:Signs by language :) Danmichaelo (talk) 11:00, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The language on the board is Kannada, the language spoken in Karnataka, a state in India. From the description, it seems that the picture is taken in Bangalore, which is the capital city of Karnataka. Is this enough information for this one? --Sreejith K (talk) 11:06, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Sreejithk! I very much appreciate your help :) I promise not to bug you with tons of questions, but here's one more :) The description for this picture is very lacking, and I'm very curious what the banner say... is this Hindu? Danmichaelo (talk) 11:53, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you meant Hindi and not Hindu. They are completely different. Anyways, the poster in the picture is in Bengali and it says that George Bush is the most cruel guy in the world and also claims that only CPM has the courage to stand against him and his country. Generally Communists hate America everywhere in the world :) --Sreejith K (talk) 14:24, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh God, that's embarrasing, yeah, I meant Hindi - at least now I will never mix up the words again :D Danmichaelo (talk) 17:01, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

As indicated in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Christoph Peters, Tanja Dückers.jpg, the license is CC-BY-SA 3.0.

So, the license indicated on the Flickr account (CC-BY-SA 2.0) is wrong. --Dereckson (talk) 18:27, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that the EXIF has BY-SA-3.0 but the flickr page has BY-SA-2.0, thats why I changed the license. I saw that you fixed the source, so now the license seems appropriate. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:30, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the nominations in QIC. But I got some complaints regarding the tight crop of the images. Now I am re croping them to make more space around the subjects. Deletion request for File:P.Shanker Andhra AnnaHazare.JPG

Hi Sreejithk2000, You have, according to your wise discretion, knowledge and experience made the deletion request for the file. I have given my humble explanation as to why the file is not a violation of Commons norm. In case if you concur with my views, you can possibly withdraw your request. In either case, my sincere regard for the lots of good work you've done and are still doing for Commons. Hindustanilanguage (talk) 07:20, 28 February 2012 (UTC).[reply]

I agree that the image is a valuable image and is in Scope, but the problem is that we cannot publish the image in a free license here as the images in the poster are all copyrighted in India. I sure want to retain the image, but our rules does not allow that. I am waiting for someone knowledgeable to comment there as I do not want to sound like a deletionist. If there is any scope of retaining the image, I will be more than happy to vote for  Keep --Sreejith K (talk) 07:23, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You cited Indian FOP to keep this. My understanding of FOP in India is that it applies only to architecture and sculpture. Am I wrong?

You may find this work-in-progress on FOP useful. Feel free to point out mistakes. Regards,      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 16:28, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As per COM:FOP#India, even engraving at a public place is under FOP. In File:Ollur052.jpg, the text also looks a little projected outside, so it is 3D and should not be copyrighted IMO.
I am not quite sure whether the photograph there is de-minimis or not. Also, this file looks {{Out of scope}} to me. --Sreejith K (talk) 17:45, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest you look again -- it's your country, after all ;-)
"t) the making or publishing of a painting, drawing, engraving or photograph of a sculpture, or other artistic work failing under sub-clause (iii) of clause (c) of section 2 ["any other work of artistic craftsmanship"], if such work is permanently situate in a public place or any premises to which the public has access;
Note that this does not include copies of paintings, drawings, or photographs, as they do not fall under the referenced sub-clause (iii). They fall under sub-clause (i)."
"Engraving" is one of the permitted methods of making a copy, along with drawing, painting, and photograph. An engraving is not covered by FOP as it is in the same class as drawings, paintings, and photographs. I assume that the law has the same meaning for "engraving" as it would here -- a work on paper made by engraving -- making lines -- in a copper plate and then printing from that. Most currency is engravings.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 02:30, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I will talk to Adv.tksujith and other people who are familiar with the law. Whether or not the small image on top is De-minimis is another question, but apart from that, I do not see a lot of creativity in the museum sign that can warrant a copyright. --Sreejith K (talk) 11:21, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the correction in the file upload was my first attempt Flickr file, the next time I will do it manually. Sorry for using the Google translator my English is very basic. Greetings. ---Erick- Talk 22:35, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Byran's flickr upload bot (http://toolserver.org/~bryan/flickr/upload) is not a reliable tool and I am seeing it doing bad transfers lately. I would recommend using flickr2commons tool (http://toolserver.org/~magnus/flickr2commons.php) instead. --Sreejith K (talk) 05:28, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Top_indic_admins list

Congratulations for the new role of Admin on commons. Would give you full support on this.

Just a query. You have shared a list of Top Indic admins on your user pageas below. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Top_indic_admins.JPG Can we get the latest list or if you could share me the path to fetch the same....मंदार कुलकर्णी 04:26, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

As you can see from the file description page, the chart was compiled by Mayur at hi.wikipedia. AFAIK, there is no straight forward way of doing it, but feel free to put a not on Mayur's talk page in hindi. I am guessing that he used the toolserver tool http://toolserver.org/~vvv/adminstats.php to get list of admins in all wikipedia's and combined them into a single chart manually. It might be a tedious task if you try to do it so ask Mayur if he knows of any better way. --Sreejith K (talk) 05:25, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I started to add you here, but I realized that we list non-Latin languages in their own script. I'm not sure if the new section should be Malayalam or മലയാളം or perhaps something else. If "മലയാളം" is not correct, I got it from http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikipedias, so you may want to change it there.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 12:23, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

മലയാളം is right.--Kiran Gopi (Talk to me..) 12:30, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Added myself there. The fact is, I only had to type language|ml there and not the exact latin equivalent which is മലയാളം. --Sreejith K (talk) 12:33, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Category moves

Before moving categories with the Delinker, please ensure that it cannot be contested and that the related discussion requests are closed or reached some sort of consensus (see Category talk:Demonstrations). Moving categories implies equally the deletion or redirection of the original categories, the adaptation of templates and the renaming of the related subcategories. --Foroa (talk) 10:01, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oops. I did not see that. I will be careful from next time. Sorry about that. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:06, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Same file

I'm the author of both files & I think the 1st one is the same. My goal is to keep only one of those two. How must I act? Thanks.--PereslavlFoto (talk) 10:40, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Which file are we talking about here? Can you please help me with a link? --Sreejith K (talk) 10:56, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you are taking about deleting either File:Voting-box-4455.jpg or File:voting-box-6806.jpg as duplicate of the other, commons policies are against it. These files are not the exact duplicates. I see no harm in both of them being available here. --Sreejith K (talk) 11:09, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know what went wrong here?

Look at your diff: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:2011_Lexus_CT_200h_%28ZWA10R%29_Prestige_hatchback_%282011-10-10%29.jpg&action=history Another file had a duplicate tag which pointed to this file. Maybe you copied the wrong desc. page?! Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 23:50, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like an error with MediaWiki:Gadget-AjaxQuickDelete.js‎. Looks like Rillke, who made the latest changes is aware of this problem as he reverted my edit. Still I will post this question on his talk page to know his views. Thanks for the note. --Sreejith K (talk) 05:48, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I mixed something up, sorry. Forgot about this. It only happened if you pressed the inverse button, then closed the dialog and then did something else with the script. -- RE rillke questions? 13:51, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am happy that we spotted it early and fixed it. Thank you for your fabulous script. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:09, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please could you clarify why you consider this ineligible for speedy deletion? According to Commons:SPEEDY#General reasons, unused files can be deleted if the uploader requests it less than 7 days after the upload, which was the case here. January (talk) 19:43, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That policy is for the uploads of self owned work AFAIK. This one is a US government work and has been hosted on flickr. I can speedy delete it, but someone else will recreate the content because the license is valid. It could be me as well. Whats the point of deleting it then? --Sreejith K (talk) 11:06, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just after I uploaded it I spotted the metadata "Copyright Damian Wimpler All Rights Reserved", if that's correct the State Dept may have put it on Flickr by mistake. It's not unknown, they've got an AP photo on their channel with the same license [3]. January (talk) 11:54, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's interesting. I have nominated it for deletion as I am still not comfortable with a speedy. --Sreejith K (talk) 11:58, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Need help - Alaska image with Malayalam filename and caption

In order to categorize the image, need someone someone who reads Malayalam take a look at File:അലാസ്കൻ-പർ‌വ്വതങ്ങൾ2.jpg and translate the description; you were recommended. If you can find the time to look I would appreciate it. Thanks Dankarl (talk) 18:45, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Added English description but I had to tag the image as missing permission. The uploader is not the author of the image and there is no proof that he agreed to the said license. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:56, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suppression de l'image mamboundoup.jpg

Bonjour,

Bien cordialement, — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 78.112.109.252 (talk)

Translation by google translate: I noted with disappointment a picture I posted and which I was the holder of the right. This is the third time I delete pictures, taken by myself, and I want to use to illustrate the wikipedia pages. Under false pretenses as "Bad Author." If you do not want people voluntarily participate in the enrichment of Wikipedia, and you say so leave your site. Sincerely,--Sreejith K (talk) 05:26, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
File:Mamboundoup.jpg was deleted because the flickr source is marked as flicker washing at User:FlickreviewR/bad-authors. If you wish to contest it, please put a note on the talk page of User:FlickreviewR --Sreejith K (talk) 05:29, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please do the needful. Thanks! Joyson Prabhu Holla at me! 17:01, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Photo

I am the author of the picture. I put in the cancellation because they were wrong and I have to upload new titles. --Valentini17 (talk) 13:11, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The files File:RioneMaestàdelPonteMontepulcianoStazione.jpg and File:RioneMacchiaMontepulcianoStazione.jpg are in use and hence cannot be speedily deleted. I have converted your speedy tag into a regular DR. You may want to express your thoughts there. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:06, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Check dupes - which tool / workflow?

Hi sreejithk - on my way for getting better results with my work at the wikipedia/commons, i try everytime to get more comfortable with the possibilities which be offered. Today, i saw that you deleted the File:African buffaloes and one bird.jpg and redirected it to his dupe / original file. How did you find out, that this file was always on commons? It would be nice, to hear from you and excuse my english - it's not the best i have to give for this community ;-) --Grunpfnul (talk) 14:33, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The file File:African buffaloes and one bird.jpg was tagged as a duplicate of an existing file by User:Materialscientist. I assume that he found that there is a duplicate while doing a routine inspection of flickr images requiring license review. Commons will display duplicate files, if there are any, in the File usage on Commons section of the image page down to the bottom of the page. If you go through the files in Category:Duplicate, you can see this. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:43, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion Request

Hello and thanks for helping out to permanently delete this file. this file It appears to be in use on the Italian version of the site. Do you know how long before it is parsed completely from the wiki commons library across the board or is there something else I need to do? ie: make request in italian? Also, is there any way tp have the file name totally obliterated so my name no longer show there? Thank you for you assistance! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jculottta (talk • contribs)

I assume that you are talking about this file. This file has been deleted and will be removed from all associated pages by User:CommonsDelinker. It might take a while, but it will soon be removed. You do not have to do anything regarding this except showing a little patience --Sreejith K (talk) 18:49, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That is the exact one kind sir. I appreciate your response and attention and all the good work you do. Cheers! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jculottta (talk • contribs)

Was it meaningless to you that we are waiting on a response from OTRS. How do we make progress now you have deleted the file? Eddaido (talk) 08:14, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The source file from flickr says All rights reserved which makes this file a copyright violation. Copyright violations are speedy deletions in all Wikimedia projects, not just Commons. Once we receive OTRS permissions, we can restore the image. I am an OTRS agent myself, so I can also help there. Please note that most OTRS agents including me does not take OTRS emails from photos sourced from flickr; we rather ask them to change the license at flickr. --Sreejith K (talk) 08:54, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

" Please note that most OTRS agents including me does not take OTRS emails from photos sourced from flickr; we rather ask them to change the license at flickr."
So why not just say that?
Why not just answer my email and his email?

So here it is now:

Dear OTRS Volunteer,

Some days ago a generous (heavy) contributor to Flickr under the name (deleted) kindly agreed to upload to Wikimedia Commons up to 35 images selected by me from his Flickr collection where they are marked "All Rights Reserved".

That is to say the images have been previously published (on Flickr) and not under a licence acceptable to Wikimedia Commons

Unfortunately however he tries he seems to be blocked - which may be caused by some anti-fiddle device? - of course I don't know.

As a part of the exercise I uploaded (after copying from Flickr to my own computer) a test image under the arrangement that he was to go in and give it a licence. Now I realise that once he has done that he needs to write to you and satisfy you he has the right to do that. His username for Wikimedia Commons is Sallysparrow.

So my letter now is to give some advance notice that the above image will be legitimised very shortly through emails between him and your colleagues And ask,

Is there any simple way to deal with the 35 images in bulk?

We have each spent many hours of (hopelessly inexperienced with Wikimedia uploads) puzzling over all this.

I'll let him know I have written to you.

With kind regards

Please may I have a reply.

Eddaido (talk) 10:25, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not post anything further on this subject here. It is a waste of our time and yours to have three discussions going about this image. Please use Commons:Undeletion_requests/Current_requests#File:Daimler_mystery.jpg.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 14:48, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio conversions to DR

Question for you; even though I tagged recently uploaded images as a copyright violation, I wonder why they are being converted to a DR. Most are claimed to be an own work, or is there just not enough hands to help dealing with the copyvios? Just curious. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 06:19, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Some of them could be saved by fixing the license. A DR gets better view from the community and a knowledgeable person could fix the license. Copyvios does not get that liberty. Just my personal view. --Sreejith K (talk) 06:23, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Some are too simple to have deleted, so I leaving some alone, but others lie about the source. Another thing is if the object itself is public domain, then each rendition has their own specific copyright (see COM:COA for example). User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 06:28, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In any case, I felt its good to have multiple people checking the license rather than one admin deciding whether it should remain or not. Isn't that a better approach? --Sreejith K (talk) 06:56, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
