Cameron Diaz

Hi Sree - why did you redirect my Cameron Diaz file to MyCanon's, instead of the other way around? I uploaded the photo first, and I'm the photographer - I would like these photos to be in my own contribution history as opposed to MyCanon's, which is not an unreasonable thing to ask and expect since I've been contributing here since 2006. MyCanon has other work of mine that are duplicates, such as Emma Watson, Sarah Silverman and Chris Colfer. There were two different files with the same name in commons, so I split the page into two. You can see the two files are now available as File:Gloriosa.jpg and File:Gloriosa (1).jpg. Now since your file was overwritten, the original image description was retained. I hope you are not disagreeing to the fact that this image is a copyright violation at its present state. User:Dzlinker put a speedy delete tag on it instead of a DR. I do not know why he did not notify the uploader. If I had seen that the image is used widely, I would have converted it to a DR, but I did not pay attention to that. An oversight from my part. Indi.ca is listed at User:FlickreviewR/bad-authors which means that this user probably does not know copyright of all the images he has uploaded to flickr. For reference, his id is 85113745@N00. Exact duplicates

Hi, there has been a mistake in processing files labeled as {{Duplicate}}, File:Lousame, Lousame..svg, Vilacoba.svg etc were not exact duplicates of the nominated files. I was just trying to work out the reason for the different versions (I think they were all uploaded by the same person?), when they disappeared ;-). The outlined areas were noticably different shapes, was that just inaccurate tracing of borders or borders from different eras? If the uploader had indicated that the first versions were a mistake then I wouldn't worry, but I think it was someone else who nominated them. Yes undo a couple of them so we can check them out.
I was also going to mention the PNG/JPG "duplicates" (File:Carantonha,_de_Lousame.png, Ces, Lousame.png) I think uploaded by the same user (and nominated as duplicates by the same user that tagged the SVGs). If the JPGs were created from the PNGs then I would keep the PNGs (and visa versa), but it appears the tagger created a new JPG from the PNG and uploaded it over the old JPG, then nominated the PNG as duplicate. I think I would tend to revert the overwrite of the JPG, and keep the different JPG/PNG pairs, and link them as "other versions". --Tony Wills (talk) 13:10, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, undeleted one. See File:Lousame, Lousame..svg and File:Parroquia de Lousame, Lousame..svg. To me, the second version is not accurate at all and we probably does not need it as a better version is available. But if you think we should not delete it for that reason, we can use the {{Superseded}} template instead.
The second certainly appears more precise (more detailed borders) but I have no idea whether it is more accurate (some borders are moved a lot). I had a brief look but wasn't sure about what reference either version was based upon, nor noticed any discussion (but then I can't read Spanish). Yes I agree that {{Superseded}} is much better, if they need to be deleted then we should see a discussion citing the reference sources first. --Tony Wills (talk) 22:07, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, my post was a bit hurried. I was talking about the pairs File:Carantonha,_de_Lousame.png (before being made into a redirect) / File:Carantonha, de Lousame.jpg, and File:Ces, Lousame.png / File:Ces, Lousame.jpg. Delete request for a propietary image

This image == File:Pico_navas.jpg == is mine, as it can be seen at http://www.navasdelpinar.com/multimedia/galeria/, and it is under a Creative commons license by-nc-nd, as it can be read at http://www.navasdelpinar.com/licencias/, and some user called "cucaña" uploaded it by his name. I request the deletion of this image as it is not compatible with the cc licenses of wikipedia.

Help

Hello. I'm an old contributor of the wiki project, but i've been inactive for years. In 2006 i uploaded 8 images and put my full name as the author of them, and it appears in the file history. When somebody makes a search in the google engine for my name, has as return thousands of pages because of that. So a uploaded the files again and made the changes on the links over the wiki in all languages. But you made redirects of four of them and the google refuses in delete them from their cache, because the pages "still exist". Is it possible to delete this redirects? Thank you.

Madrid Metro maps

Hi, first of all, sorry for my bad english :) I saw you didn't delete the images of the Madrid Metro. I've talked to the author of the images here, he agrees for the deletion. Of course those images are not an exact or scaled down duplicate of the images I linked, because he doesn't know hot to use graphic programs (he told me, no offense!). {{Duplicate}} template should only be used if the images are exact duplicates. Here, you should either use {{Superseded}} to force users to use the other image or nominate it for deletion saying that a better alternative is available. --Sreejith K (talk) 09:48, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mostly its about convincing an administrator that you know the renaming criteria quite well. They judge you by your number of edits and the number of times you have requested files for renaming and was successfully renamed. BTW of this, Sreejithk, please could you explain why you deleted it? Deleting on uploader's request is not a valid reason for deleting a file, especially if it was correctly licenced. Even if the file is unused that's not a valid reason for deleting. A file should be deleted in case of 1. is not freely licenced; 2. is a copyright violation; 3. is out of scope. Unuse is not per se a valid reason. I don't want to overturn your administrative action, but could you please consider apply for an undeletion request (unless there are other factors I don't know as to date?). Shreejith, I am sorry but Author requested deletion of page is not the way you intend it. Once the uploader has released the photo, it's unrevokably licenced. The thing you pointed, Author requested deletion of page, occurs when someone different than the author uploaded the pic and its legitimate author asks for it to be removed. In the situation you provided above, we usually say no permission or plain copyright violation. I wouldn't call it "author requested deletion" since it implies he/she did the work when it was proven that it is not. But we been told before if someone uploaded an image, and realized they cannot use that license or made an honest mistake within a week or two, it would be alright to delete (especially if it is a new user). I misunderstood that these BSicon*.svg files were always left to manual fixing, since their most important usage is within diagrams which are built by templates that call only part of the filenames. Having the Commons delinker fixing the remaining redirects is a boon. Normally you do not have to do anything manually, but somehow this file did not make it to User:CommonsDelinker/commands. I have added it manually. Now we just have to wait till the bot picks it up. Hi all, I tried to translate a portion of the template but it seems to a complex file composed of many sentences including comments not having impact on the display and actual text. As compared to this, templates such as Categorize are easy to translate, and I've done already. I suggest if somebody copies the key sentences/core sentences impacting the display ( leaving aside code, comments and sentences not impacting the display ) and pastes them on this sandbox replacing the partially translated template as it exists now, may be I can be of some help . I had tagged this file File:Elena Kupchyna.jpg for copyvio today. It was hence deleted i guess. The uploader seems to have posted some message on this file in place of the actual file. I got the same msg on my talk page. (I dont know whats wrong here. Was the image deleted and the uploader recreated the page and posted his msg there?) I cant figure out maybe as i cant see deleted files. It seems the User:BelarusMFA has copyrights and is willing to freely upload the files to Commons. Hello. Could you restore this category? We have a problem with IP railway vandal, who marks English-named categories for deletion and keeps moving all the pages to Polish-named Category:Lokomotywy parowe w Chabówce. Sreejithk2000, I tagged the file for speedy delete, because the file was uploaded for promotional purposes, that is ouside the project scope (also explained in the Criteria for speedy deletion). The image was included in the article Heavy & Chudo at es:Wikipedia, tagged for speedy delete.

Railway vandal

Could you undelete Category:PKP class Pt31, Category:PKP class Tw12, Category:PKP class TKt1, Category:TKp T2D Slask, Category:PKP class TKp? Good day. Thanks for your attention at finding and deleting duplicate files! I wanted to leave you a note that I reversed your deletion of File:1941 Packard 120 Convertible Sedan.jpg. The reason was that this version was older (having been on Commons more than a year longer), had a clearer title, and was better categorized (eg, specific "Category:1941 Packard" rather than the vague "Category:1941" at the duplicate). I redirected duplicate File:1941 Packard 120 Convertible Sedan (5015355221).jpg there. Other things being equal, when there are duplicate files I generally keep the older one. If the two versions are categorized differently, I suggest consolidating the better cats on the version to be kept. Thanks again for your work. Your edit looks fine. I took the one with better contents in the AjaxQuickDelete popup. I usually do merging of contents, especially the categories.
