Siebrand 09:25, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Image nominated foor speedy deletion

Pjotr,

Frankzweers 21:15, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Hallo,
Kameraad Pjotr 17:58, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Incorrect Flickr license confirmation

Hello Kameraad Pjotr. You confirmed that Todd Bertuzzi.jpg is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 license, but it is currently licensed under the incompatible Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.0 Canada license. Other images simultaneously uploaded from the same author are marked as invalid for this reason (for example, Arrowhead Pond.jpg), so I suspect that the image was never under the former license.

This image is one of several licensed per a release sent to OTRS (Template:OTRS ticket), which has been rejected because I have been unable to confirm that release. If possible, please confirm whether or not your confirmation was mistaken. —Pathoschild 16:01:43, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

The image was indeed under CC-NC-ND, but the e-mail on the description page made clear to me everything was ok. Now it seems that it wasn't, so I've made a mistake. Kameraad Pjotr 17:27, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks; I removed the confirmation template. —Pathoschild 05:28:44, 02 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you

Hi there,

Thanks for the edits you made to the pictures that I had uploaded. I was unaware of these language templates, but will use them for all the other pictures I am uploading to the commons. Anrie 10:20, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Kameraad Pjotr/Archive1a, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons @ irc.freenode.net.

Hoi Kameraad Pjotr. Want to temporarily recover an image

You recently deleted Image:Young Albert Einstein.jpg, which we were using at q:en:Albert Einstein. From your deletion log entry, I gather it was because there was no (or at least insufficient) source and licensing information for this image. I would like to recover whatever information for this is available to admins, as an exercise in trying to track down proper licensing for images I did not upload. (I'd really like to see the image itself if possible, too, but I assume that's gone forever.) Thank you for any assistance you can provide. ~ Jeff Q 20:42, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Incidentally, I am prepared to replace this image with a NASA image for which I've already compiled the licensing information (as well as some additional research) But I don't want to upload a new image until you respond, as I don't want to mess up anything you might be able to tell me first. Thanks. ~ Jeff Q 21:11, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Hello,
I restored the image (Image:Young Albert Einstein.jpg), so you can view the image and the copyright status. It wil be there for 7 days, unless you can track down the license or you replace it with your other version (in that case, I will delete the older version). Image question

I realize you are not the author of Image:Nordmann-01.jpeg, but do you know if it depicts a Christmas tree farm? 67.173.131.28 10:46, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

I don't think so, as the German wikipedia uses it here, it's just in a forest. Kameraad Pjotr 09:24, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Happened to pass by and saw this question: I rather think it does depict a Christmas tree farm. The trees have to even size to have grown up naturally, and are standing to close to have been planted for timber-production. Regards, Finn Rindahl 12:39, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Grieks

Alvast bedankt in ieder geval. Groeten, Deadstar (msg) 11:43, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Kameraad Pjotr 16:52, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Ah ok - nu ja, we zullen zien of Tony het begrijpt. Groeten, Deadstar (msg) 19:17, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

"Good to know" links

Hi. I felt you should know the following about the subject links on your user page:

Does not work at present; produces "http://www.flickr.com/photo.gne.id=[object]" for all input including 321021735 - my solution Shortcut to a Flickr photo page at http://www.flickr.com/photo.gne?id=321021735 - just change the end of the URL is easier to use (if you have access to the address bar in your browser).   — Jeff G. Hi! I have noticed that you have deleted Image:TenLargestWPSlogans.png. Wasn't it simply a Copyright by Wikimedia? If my memory is OK the text was taken from images like that one.. --Jaqen 20:09, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

It was probably a Copyright by Wikimedia, but as I had neither a source, neither an author, it was almost impossible to give a valid reason for keeping it. Kameraad Pjotr 21:22, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Coat of arms of Bedum.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Hello, you are the author of one of the images in the category Grande Arche. This category has been recently proposed for deletion under the pretext that there is no FOP in France. I believe not all the images in this category deserve to be deleted, some of them do not present copyright issues. You can express your opinion on this page Commons:Deletion_requests/Category:Grande_Arche if you believe the category should stay. I noticed this deletion request after one of my images (also featured picture) belonging to this category has been proposed for deletion here. Best Regards. --Atoma 16:37, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Beeldbank Rijkswaterstaat

Kameraad Pjotr 18:59, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Deletions

Hi! Why were Image:Helsinki districts-Maunulanpuisto.png and Image:Helsinki districts-Haltiala.png deleted? They were district maps of the same kind that there are more than a hundred of in their category (Category:District location maps of Helsinki). All are of from the same source. By checking the category you could have noticed there was nothing wrong with the images. Can you undo the deletions? Migro 22:21, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi! I deleted them because they lacked a source. I know the came from the Finnish wikipedia, but I looked for them and I haven't found them. If you can provide a source (a log for example), I will restore them. Kameraad Pjotr 10:46, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Please note that if you won't provide a valid license in 7 days your image will be deleted and if you upload a lot of images without licenses you may be blocked from editing wikimedia-commons. Thank you.

Template ngw

Mvg, Kameraad Pjotr 19:53, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Need help with scripts

Hi,

I found some interesting scripts in your namespace, like thisone.

Can you point to some manual of how to install them?

I would like to be able to add some templates without actualy editing the page. I need this for some other wiki projects too.

Please, help :)

--Veliki Kategorizator 11:34, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello,
There isn't a manual, but on the talk page (here) is some information about installing it. (Just put the code in your monobook.js should work) Normally it works on all wikis. You can also try Zeusmode, which I'm also using. Both should do wat you want to do.

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Gigi_D'Agostino.jpg.

Thank you. Thanks for fixing Philbert, could you also look at Image:Mario the Magnificent.jpg? Thanks! Evrik (talk) 19:04, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Why you delete my oicture of Jimmy Omonga? I made it and I stated this, so put it back, please

The image came from [5]; if you created the image and this site is yours, then you'll have to e-mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, with in your e-mail a statement of permission and a free license (Commons:Email templates), see Commons:OTRS for more details. If that has happened, the image will be restored. Kameraad Pjotr 16:50, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

freedom of panorama

After deletion of those Icelandic images I have looked around commons and laws of other countries. According to that page and Finland entry Freedom_of_panorama#Finland - Image:Väinö Aaltonen 1955 När vänskapsbanden knytes.jpg cannot be used on commons and has to be removed. This message was posted to User:Haukurth as well.--Avala (talk) 21:28, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

H are other images to be checked for their status (Many of them modern sculptures in Finland by Finnish artists so pretty much clear situation):

--Avala (talk) 22:16, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

I suppose it was you who reacted. Anyway a neighbouring Estonia has a similar law which says that the works cannot constitute the central motive of the picture. Please check these (mostly modern):

--Avala (talk) 20:44, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Please see Commons talk:Freedom of panorama#Estonia. Andres (talk) 18:32, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

However, under Estonian law, if the original author, i.e. the sculptor, has been dead for 70 years or more, the work is public domain. 60.231.177.200 20:53, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Kameraad Pjotr, I just wanted to let you know that I've re-open for Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Bee Gees logo.gif for further discussion. I went this route because I saw it done with Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Susan.jpg. If you need to re-delete and send the discussion to Commons:Undeletion_requests, that is just fine (I'm certainly not trying to wheel war). Your comments are certainly welcome; I just want to allow for further discussion and participation. Best, ЭLСОВВОLД talk 15:32, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi, you've delete this image for fair-use problems because the program in the display of the psp is under copyright. I've de-focused the screen in order to solve this problem as has been done also for this image. Is it ok now? ;-) If yes, I'll replace the .jpg version with this .png (using CommonsDelinker). Hello, the images of the Finnish decorations were deleted because photographs of 3D-objects, even when the object itself is in the Public Domain, are copyrighted. These images were copyright violations, see also here. Kameraad Pjotr 14:17, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

Can I nominate images for a speedy deletion if they have already been nominated for a regular deletion? They are derivatives from non-free works.--Sergei (talk) 09:05, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

It is possible, although not recommended. If they are derivative works, then the deletion request will be closed rapidly, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'll look at the requests and close them. Kameraad Pjotr 09:07, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

My watchlist tells me you deleted this image pursuant to the discussion at Commons:Deletion requests/Template:Vector-Images.com; however, the result of this debate was keep. Why was this image deleted? Thanks, Stannered (talk) 22:15, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I used the wrong reason. The image was deleted because it came from FOTW, which is a copyright violation. Kameraad Pjotr 11:53, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

User:Kameraad Pjotr/monobook.js/duplicate.js

Hi Kameraad Pjotr,
due to reasons unknown to me your "User:Kameraad Pjotr/monobook.js/duplicate.js" seems to get automatically categorized as dupe to be speedy-deleted, see: Category:Duplicate. This has the danger that it might become deleted inadvertently. --Túrelio (talk) 08:46, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

OK, solved, two missing <nowiki>-tags. Thanks for alerting. Kameraad Pjotr 11:50, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello!

As far as I understand, the e-mail I received (and cited), where the owner of the design agreed to publishing the pin image on trust, is not enough to leave this image? Also, my photo is probably a derviative work of another derivative work, as - probably - only the drawing is copyrighted, not the pin itself. And it is copyrighted only (i.e. not in public domain), it is not a trademark.

What kind of permission from the design owner would I need to upload the photo again? Or is it impossible regardless of any permission?

Best regards,

--GregorioW (talk) 16:53, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello,
The picture of the pin itself is copyrighted, but the image is a derivative work of the pin; which is also copyrighted. For the image to stay, permission from both the photographer and the designer of the pin are needed. If it's in the public domain, permission is only needed of the photographer. Permission should be forwarded to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org.
Kameraad Pjotr 18:46, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Hello!
Thank you for the explanation.
It was my own photo, so this would be no problem. So I need to ask the design owner (the tourist society) for permission to publish the photo of the pin, do I? Would it be enough to get the answer in Polish only?
Best regards,
--GregorioW (talk) 21:31, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Hello
You will have to ask the copyright holder (probably the tourist society) for permission to publish the photo of the pin under a free license (see here) and forward that to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. As long as you provide a basic translation, the answer in Polish should not pose a problem (I'm not sure there are native Polish speakers at OTRS)
Best regards, Kameraad Pjotr 17:25, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello, you declined this speedy of the Athens / w:en:Attiki Odos street map, because our version was larger than that on the website. First off, you did realise that you get a larger version on that website when you click on the thumbnail, right? [6] Although I have to admit that one is still a bit smaller than ours. My reasons for nominating was:

  1. It's evidently a professionally produced map and unlikely to be the work of the uploader (who has otherwise demonstrated no such extraordinary graphics skills, I know him from en-wiki.)
  2. The website I pointed to is the website of the construction company that built the road in question and manages it; it's a huge enterprise; quite unlikely they would use a wikipedia image on their own site.
  3. The same map is evidently circulated widely for everyday use as a roadmap in Greece, if you image-google for "Αττική Οδός" you'll find numerous copies or excerpts from identical or near-identical maps.

I can understand if you want to be on the safe side; would you prefer I take it to "deletion requests"? (BTW, I speedied the source upload on en-wiki.) Fut.Perf. 19:37, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello,
Thank you for your clarification. I wasn't sure, so I decided to play safe and keep the image. I will make a deletion request out of it (something I should have done in the first place) Kameraad Pjotr 20:54, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi Kameraad Pjotr. Could you explain to me please, why you removed this GPG-signed Email? Having a GPG-signed Email is much more transparent than a link to a OTRS ticket. Everyone can verify it, while only few people can access OTRS. I don't mind having a link to an OTRS Email, but I don't think the Email I received should be removed. Thanks in advance, --Church of emacs (talk) 14:48, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

I removed it because it's not required, as the mail at OTRS holds all the information needed and is more 'sure', as nobody can edit it afterwards. Mails placed at description pages can be edited and changed. Kameraad Pjotr 18:40, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, if you change the mail, the GPG signature becomes invalid. So, if the email is changed, everyone who verifies it can see that it is faked. That's the whole concept of GPG. But nevermind it, it isn't that important to me --Church of emacs (talk) 19:54, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
I don't think the GPG-signature changes at wikipedia when you edit the mail, so that has no effect. If you want to place it back, please do it at the talk page and add a link in the 'permissions'-field (please keep the OTRS-link) and remove any private information. Kameraad Pjotr 19:23, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
I linked to the old version of the page. I hope that's ok :) --Church of emacs (talk) 15:23, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Copyfraud

hello there,

you once deleted an image of Rembrandt as a copyright violation [11] because it came from a museum website. I think we have a problem here. You might want to voice your opinion on this topic here Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#PD-art_images_from_museum_websites_allowed.3F. cheers Gryffindor (talk) 15:43, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't have an opinion on this topic. When I deleted the image, I was just carrying out commons policy. Now the policy has changed, so I won't delete those images any more. Kameraad Pjotr 19:44, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Commons policy was never changed in that respect, the policy of copyfraud existed since the beginning. Be careful in future what you delete even if it is tagged. Gryffindor (talk) 23:33, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
"Commons policy was changed in August to allow such photos to be kept even in countries where local copyright is claimed. See COM:ART. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 17:04, 29 October 2008 (UTC)", yes it was changed ([12]) and the image I deleted came from a museum in the UK, and PD-art could not be used for paintings from British museums. Please be careful when deleting images

hi there Kameraad Pjotr,

I noticed that you deleted two pd-art images that I uploaded once, see here [13] and [14]. The problem is that User:Luigi Chiesa put them up for deletion although this case was specifically a misguided one of copyfraud, see Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag. All two-dimensional images of pd-art is allowed on the Commons, even if a museum claims copyright on it (thus copyfraud, because the copyright belongs in reality to the artist, not the museum), so please be aware of that in future should you come across it again. Thanks alot Gryffindor (talk) 22:33, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Please be aware that I deleted those images before the new policy came into effect. When I deleted those images, they did not comply with the policy than in effect. Tasja (talk) 17:32, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Brandsoftheworld

Do you know how I go about uploading logos from brandsoftheworld.com. Almost every logo that I see is uploaded from there, I just don't know what the correct selections are to make on the upload page. If you're not sure can you tell me who I can ask or a link to read. I couldn't find anything on the upload section about brandsoftheworld. It doesn't have a seperate option like flickr. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, --BoldSolitude (talk) 00:27, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello,
Unfortunately, logos are protected by copyright and can not be used at Wikimedia Commons (more details, see here). A the English Wikipedia, they probably qualify as {{Fair use}}, but that is not permitted here. I'm afraid those logos cannot be uploaded here.
Kameraad Pjotr 13:01, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Do you know ?

Do you know ? I am three photo author,Own work by uploader:

YOU should not delete my photo. can you help me to explain upload my copyright photo? think you! --建燁 (talk) 11:48, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Both the image description and the permission were both in Chinese and you added the template {{Promophoto}}, which means that it is not own work, but comes from an official agency and can only be used as fair use, which is not permitted at commons. Kameraad Pjotr 19:54, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Mindview

Afbreken is gemakkelijk, mee helpen opbouwen iets anders!

http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afbeelding:Mindview151.png http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gebruiker:Belgaman http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Belgaman

Hallo,

Image deletion

Hi, you recently deleted one of the images I uploaded (Image:CarolineDhavernas08TIFF.jpg). Right now, the image permission is currently waiting for an OTRS member to add the proper OTRS ticket to the image (however, I've heard they are backlogged, so that is why it may not have been tagged yet). I currently have over ~30 images waiting for an OTRS member to include the permission for, while others have already been approved (examples from this same event/author include: Image:FreidaPintoDevPatel08TIFF.jpg, Image:DannyBoyle08TIFF.jpg, and Image:ColinFarrell07TIFF.jpg). I was wondering if you could be please look for my OTRS ticket and permission and undelete the image. If you look at my subpage, you can see that I do not upload images without an author's permission, and that I'm just unfortunately waiting a while for an administrator to properly tag it with the OTRS ticket. Unfortunately my adminship at Wikipedia doesn't transfer here as well, since I would be able to address these all myself. Let me know if you need any further clarification and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 03:29, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello,
I've found your mail and tagged the images accordingly. In order to prevent accidental deletion, could you please add {{OTRS-pending}} to the images you upload? They won't get deleted then. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Happy editing! Kameraad Pjotr 08:36, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for restoring the image. I was unaware of the template but will be using it now. Thanks for your help. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 10:17, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

É. Bernard's pics

Although you're formally right, I do not really think it helps mankind to look at formal rights all-too-much. There was no real need to notice such (in German, one would call such "Beckmesserei". KLEIST wrote about such in "Der zerbrochene Krug": You're formally right, but you're doing wrong to the case, which is, imo, to create a base for freely accessible knowledge.

No-one interested in ART would, with most high probability, ever have claimed such formal right which expires anyways within 2 years. NOW, however, it is impossible to re-install the formally illegal file which you deleted "FOR_GOOD_REASON", before the time to waite has elapsed. Sorry to say so, and eod. I suppose you're running for adminship, or are one of those young+fresh_ones? Sorry that I disliked to waist my time for studying your user page ;[[ Wolfgang (talk) 14:45, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

File:Budda_head_Thoddoo_Maldives.jpg

You have deleted File:Budda_head_Thoddoo_Maldives.jpg which I Uploaded. Couple of reasons why it should be deleted.

  • Its a picture of Maldivian Historical icon.
  • Already the original is on public display
  • The site Maldivesstory.com is government owed.

FaranjiPyrard (talk) 13:58, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

The reason for deletion was "Maldives Story Copyright © 1999, Republic of Maldives", and it is not old enough for PD-old. I see no reason why the image should be restored, as the Republic of Maldives owns the copyright and clearly hasn't released into the Public Domain. Kameraad Pjotr 21:10, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi,

Some days ago, I have created this template for this massive permission (I just update it). See User talk:PericlesofAthens#OTRS permission for more details.

But I'm quite disappointed by this answer : Please add {{PermissionOTRS|ticket=https://ticket.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketZoom&TicketID=2589494}} to all new uploads created by Gary Todd.

As we discuss here, only OTRS volunteer should be adding the {{PermissionOTRS}} template. If the permission is massive, the best way is to create a clear template as Template:Gary Lee Todd permission which explains the permission.

Cheers.--Bapti 20:09, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

I didn't know it was not permitted, and judging from the discussion page, there wasn't much discussion. I disagree with the decision that non-OTRS-volunteers cannot add {{PermissionOTRS}}, I prefer to AGF; but as it seems that it is commons policy, I won't do it again. That does not mean that I agree with your decision. Kameraad Pjotr 21:16, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Action needed

This time I am not listing any images with problematic copyright status. I have a problem of other kind and it needs an admin to solve it. There are a couple of maps here that are used in English Wikipedia in articles regarding diplomatic relations. They are about Serbian diplomatic relations and the problem was how to show Kosovo. The decision was made and supported by admin Zscout370 to highlight Kosovo if the map portrays relations with a country that recognised Kosovo as independent - [15], and to show it as part of Serbia if the country did not recognise it - [16]. However there is a very stubborn user Turkish Flame who keeps on reverting to show Kosovo as any other country. He is quite stubborn on all issues, he was warned for many other things on English Wikipedia but he keeps on doing all the things how he wants. For an example he moved hundreds of articles on diplomatic relations to titles that were against the naming policy etc. or keeps creating articles that are per AfD not welcome. You can find a dozen warnings on his talk page but he never replies or cares to change his behaviour so I don't think that an advise "try to talk with him" would help me. Can you please help me with this?--Avala (talk) 23:27, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

I'm afraid there isn't much I can do in this case. This partially because Commons is not censored, although these maps could be out of scope, and because of the consequences this might have. I think the best way to handle this would be to list them at a deletion request and mention (preferably with a link to the discussion) the consensus. I believe in this case, in order to prevent false accusations of POV etc., the standard procedure should be followed. Apart from that, I have absolutely no experience or whatsoever regarding Kosovo, so I have no idea what the current situation is.
Kind regards, Kameraad Pjotr 18:29, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Yeah that would exactly be a problem, those maps are used elsewhere (in this case English WP) as realistic and accurate which means they should either be removed from here or brought in line with a few rules which is I guess covered by out of commons project scope policy. However I'd prefer for them not to be deleted because it would set a problematic precedent, anyone (like in this case where the problematic user has dozens of warnings on his talk page and he never changes behaviour therefore no attempt to talk has or will give any results) could then mess with a content here and all of the encyclopedic content would end up erased. Basically here is the link for a page where I listed map examples for how to show Kosovo in these maps which was later accepted by an admin Zscout370, I think it will give you all the necessary knowledge.--Avala (talk) 18:10, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
On other projects I am known as ErikWarmelink (without the space). en:user:ErikWarmelink is blocked indefinitely, nl:gebruiker:ErikWarmelink is blocked for a month.
I found this talk page because it was the last edit by Avala while I researched File:International reaction to the 2008–2009 Israel–Gaza conflict.png. Italy looks terribly divided, the description isn't complete (there are more colours on the map than in the description, the description uses other colours), the description is biased (states have a right to defend against attacks; people have a right to return to their homes)
The reason why I comment is that in the maps of Avala (well in those maps which I checked), Kosovo isn't exactly highlighted (my eyes are bad): the grey of Kosovo looks very much like the grey of all countries besides Serbia and the "other country". A colour clearly differing from green, orange or grey might convince Turkish Flame. Erik Warmelink (talk) 20:27, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

I do not understand why "FOP does not apply" for the picture File:Sapienza.jpg you just deleted. I am not expert in copyright laws, but it was a photo I took of a (detail of a) public place... Thanks, Goochelaar (talk) 21:01, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

OTRS pending

Hi,

I would like to ask you to follow up on my ticket request for the following images:

I'm not sure whom to contact, so I picked you because you handled my previous ticket request (File:Catholic Cathedral Moscow Bells.jpg et al.). Feel free to forward my inquiry to whom it may concern (the permission was granted in Russian and I do realize it is not among your Babel templates).

I have forwarded the permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org only a week ago (March 17, 15:25 CET) and I wouldn't normally rush things like that, but the article I need the images for is participating in the current de:Wikipedia Writing Contest, which means that any copyright issues must be resolved before March 31st, 23:59 CET.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Groetjes, --Schwallex (talk) 14:07, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
I have found the ticket, but normally you should have received a (Russian) reply from another user asking for a specific statement of permission. Kind regards, Kameraad Pjotr 18:45, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

I have made a mistake. The reason why it was deleted is because there is no Freedom of panorama in Italy. I apologize for the mistake. Kameraad Pjotr 18:32, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Ok, now I understand. Just one more question, if I may ask. Does commons follows US law, the law of the country where the photo was taken, or else? --TcfkaPanairjdde (talk) 22:31, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Both, the photo must be freely licensable in the country where the photo was taken, the country where the photographer lives and the US. Only 2-D works of art are an exception. More information can be found here. Kameraad Pjotr 20:45, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Delete Symbian_Logo.png

Hello Kamera Pjotr, you erased the image Symbian_Logo.png. I understand why, I would be grateful if you clarify. I can only assume that you know is a Symbian Free Operative System, and therefore it is possible to use without any restriction, including its logo, and even more projects as a nonprofit Wikimedia. I hope you contact me to clarify, I upload the image [which I did myself, restoring an modiffing a photo], so if you have a complaint Please contact me in my talk page. --The Aviator (talk) 17:14, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

There can be no doubt that the Symbian Operating System is free, but that does unfortunately not mean that the logo itself is free. As there is no evidence that the logo is free, I have deleted it. If you could prove that the logo is free, than it will be restored.

Concerning Flags

Hi Kameraad
I have only superficial knowledge about flags, and copyright in relation to flags. I noticed that you deleted Image:Flag of ASEAN.svg in response to Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Flag of ASEAN.svg, and above there's a section #Flag of Okinawa. I've got a couple of related questions:

Please note that I'm not trying to get anything deleted or undeleted, I'm only trying to understand the logic behind the handling of flags here on commons.
Cheers, Amalthea (talk) 11:07, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
  • The copyright term for the Okinawa flag is indeed local to Japan; but other countries have similar copyright durations (see Public domain for details)
  • The copyright of flags is very difficult indeed. It seems that those flags (UN, EU) are assumed to have a status alike to public domain, but with restrictions on its usage (much like a coat of arms). I personally disagree, and think that flags are to be treated like any ordinary work of art, which means that is not in the public domain unless it has been explicitly released in it or its copyright term has expired. I agree this is not a good, or even workable solution, but there seems to be no logic central policy on commons regarding flags.
Kind regards, Kameraad Pjotr 16:33, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, I hate such uncertainties. Simple geometric flags like File:Flag of the Netherlands.svg or, well, File:Flag of Libya.svg should always be safe though, right? What about File:Flag of Saudi Arabia.svg? It was created in 1973 so it's probably too new, but openclipart.org released it as CC PDC?
Anyway, File:Seal of ASEAN.svg will probably need deleting though, based on the discussion from Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Flag of ASEAN.svg. I've just uploaded a copy to en-wiki where it should be acceptable as fair use, but I didn't check where else it's being used. Amalthea (talk) 12:15, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Yes, simple geometric flags are safe, as well as flags created prior to 1938 (date of publication +70y). About the flag of Saudi Arabia, I'm not familiar with the local laws, so I'm not sure.

Flag of Okinawa

I noticed you recently deleted the image on accusations of copyright violation. This seems strange to me considering that tons of other flag images, from the other prefectures of Japan, to national flags of every country in the world, remain (at least for now) safely used and usable.

As an image of the flag plays an important role in enhancing a great many articles - including Okinawa Prefecture, Ryukyu Kingdom, Prefectures of Japan and many others - can you please provide a replacement image, or at least suggest how to obtain or create one that won't violate copyright? LordAmeth (talk) 10:44, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
The image was deleted because the flag was created in 1972, which means that the Okinawa Prefecture has copyright until 2023-01-01. I'm afraid it is not possible to obtain or create one that does not violate copyright.
Kind regards, Kameraad Pjotr 11:55, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Heave you read what I have written? The Okinawa Prefecture holds the copyright until 2023-01-01 and because of that, the image can not be used at Wikimedia Commons. Kameraad Pjotr 18:49, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I did read it, that's why I'm questioning your unsupported allegation that the people of Okinawa Prefecture have legally barred images depicting their flag. It could be so, I'm just requesting a Reliable Source. 22:40, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Their flag is under copyright protection, which means that it can not be used at Wikimedia Commons. That is the only reason why I have deleted it. Kameraad Pjotr 08:50, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of File: Seal of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.svg

I noticed you removed this page. I wonder why???!!! You must give me sufficient reason why did you remove it! What kind of violation did I make? Using image from that TinEye? This image has nothing to do with that website! Even with a gazillion pictures in there, I don't even know this stinking website! This image was recreated version from File:Prodhanmontri-emblem.jpg which located in commons and published under Public Domain and surely not located in that stinking website. You have no right to remove something before you really know where the heck that file come from or based on! Don't think that you are admin so you can delete anything you want without discuss it in the discuss page of that file! I don't care how many files you already uploaded, but the one thing I care is that you must respect every single file that exist in commons and talking about it!

Supporting Reliable Source reference required.

You closed this DR with kept, per Yann, but he doesn't understand the Directive 2006/116/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council and Council Directive 93/98/EEC. Both are both retroactive, if the work was protected on 1 July 1995 in any EU member. German law protect works by French authors like German works. German copyright law is retroactive and knows the 70 pma rule since 1965 and the copyright law of Spain has 80 pma since 1879. It was protected in both Spain and Germany on 1 july 1995 in at two EU members, the restoration did aply. Could revise your decision, please. sугсго 09:17, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

As Yann pointed out, the work was in the public domain in 1992 in France. Per Commons:Licensing a work has to be free in the country of origin (i.c. France) and in the US (as it was published before 1923, it is in the Public Domain, see Commons:Licensing) I have absolutely no idea why German or Spanish copyright law should apply in this case. I'm afraid I will not revise my decision.

File:Vua_Minh_Mang.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hoi Pjotr,

Vriendelijke groet, Ciell (talk) 08:48, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Mvg, Kameraad Pjotr 16:15, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Ciell (talk) 12:13, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Ciell (talk) 08:01, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Why you deleted this file? You could see that the image on the page was copied from the Commons. Jno uploaded it to the Commons on 09:59, 11 April 2006, but blog entry with the photo was created much later, namely 21:35 19 September 2007. In addition, I know activity of Jno from English and Russian Wikipedia. For example, you can see his page. He is an author of many photos of aviation and space crafts. Please restore this file and others, which you have removed. Also would you be so kind to be more careful in determining of copyvio? --RedAndr (talk) 19:48, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Afbeeldingen van Muziek Centrum Nederland

Hallo Kameraad Pjotr. Groetjes en alvast bedankt, Clausule (talk) 10:41, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Salut,

Tot ziens, Pymouss Tchatcher - 20:21, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
I'm sorry I don't reply in French, but although I can read it, I'm not that good in writing in French. I apologise for my mistake, you are entirely right, but I have made some changes to the image, as in my view it is in the Public Domain due to its age.

Houdini plaque picture

How can you delete an image w/o warning? - Denimadept (talk) 16:22, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
I have deleted the image because the subject of the image is still protected by copyright. The plaque was placed in 1994, from what I can see in the image, which means copyright lasts at least until 2065. In photographs of 3D works of art, permission from both the creator of the subject of the photograph and the photographer himself is needed. The text of the plaque is still copyrighted as well.
Kind regards, Kameraad Pjotr 16:29, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
The thing is, it was placed in a public location by a government organization. We have "freedom of panorama" in this country. I can take a picture of anything viewable from a public way and use it. - Denimadept (talk) 16:40, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Freedom of panorama in the US only covers architectural works (see Commons:FOP). The plaque was placed by a local government, and only works created by the federal government are automatically in the public domain. (see Commons:Licensing#United_States)

Question re changes to three image files

Dear Kameraad Pjotr: Thanks for updating three image files with their permissions. May I request that you show each file does have a page linked to them? Currently, the files read: “Links -- There are no pages that link to this file.” The three files are:

  • File:League of shadows.jpg
  • File:Tropic of fear.jpg
  • File:Nine days in october.jpg

and the page to which they are linked is: [[20]]. Thanks for any help you can provide. I wasn't sure how to make those changes myself. NickStuy (talk) 20:41, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
I'm afraid that is not possible. The Links-section is updated automatically by the software, but due to technical limitations it only shows pages on the wiki where the image itself is situated, not on other wikis. You can however see which wiki's use the image when clicking the check usage button.

Deleted picture

Hi, you removed one of my pictures, noted: "The file Manhattan02.jpg has been removed, as it was deleted by Kameraad Pjotr because: Copyright violation: it is a derivative of a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wi)". In the picture were buildings in Manhattan. The raging bull was shown from the back. It wasn't even the main object and was not presented as such. As I understand, in such cases there is no violation of copyrights. Please undelete my picture and undo the relevant changes in other pages. Thank you, ST (talk) 09:15, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
I'm afraid I cannot restore the image, as the Freedom of Panorama in the US only covers architectural works (see Commons:FOP#United_States), which means that photographs of the bull are still protected by the copyright of the artist. I don't believe that in this case the statue of the bull could be regarded as de minimis.

When deleting or keeping images...

Hi! You have closed some deletion requests a few days ago. Please add a headline if it is missing (like here: [21]) it makes it much easyer to find out what was deleted or kept. When keeping please add {{kept}} at discussionpage (like here: File_talk:Amo-te_Manixe02.jpg). It can be hard to find out when DR has an other name than the image (like here: Commons:Deletion requests/File:IABG Test Setup A380 Dresden bent wing.jpg). :-) --MGA73 (talk) 20:02, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello,

The rationale you wrote regarding this image is wrong: this film is in the public domain in India. Rama arguments are complete bullshit. Please restore this image. Thanks, Yann (talk) 18:54, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
I don't doubt that the film is in the public domain in India, but for the images used, especially the photograph of the person that died in 1901, it's unclear whether they are in the public domain, as Rama said. I agree with Rama on this issue.

Commons accept logos see Trademarks. That's why we have {{PD-textlogo}} and {{PD-shape}}.

§ 202.1 Material not subject to copyright.

The following are examples of works not subject to copyright and applications for registration of such works cannot be entertained:

(a) Words and short phrases such as names, titles, and slogans; familiar symbols or designs; mere variations of typographic ornamentation, lettering or coloring; mere listing of ingredients or contents;

(b) Ideas, plans, methods, systems, or devices, as distinguished from the particular manner in which they are expressed or described in a writing;

(c) Blank forms, such as time cards, graph paper, account books, diaries, bank checks, scorecards, address books, report forms, order forms and the like, which are designed for recording information and do not in themselves convey information;

(d) Works consisting entirely of information that is common property containing no original authorship, such as, for example: Standard calendars, height and weight charts, tape measures and rulers, schedules of sporting events, and lists or tables taken from public documents or other common sources.

(e) Typeface as typeface.

House Report No. 94-1476 states that the design of a typeface cannot be protected under U.S. law. The non-eligibility of "textual matter" was raised in Ets-Hokin v. Skyy Spirits Inc., judging if photographs of bottles of SKYY vodka were original enough for protection.

The Skyy vodka bottle, although attractive, has no special design or other features that could exist independently as a work of art. It is essentially a functional bottle without a distinctive shape.

Turning next to the bottle's label, which the district court also cited in part in categorizing Ets-Hokin's photos as derivative works, we note that "[a] claim to copyright cannot be registered in a print or label consisting solely of trademark subject matter and lacking copyrightable matter." Although a label's "graphical illustrations" are normally copyrightable, "textual matter" is not--at least not unless the text "aid[s] or augment[s]" an accompanying graphical illustration. The label on Skyy's vodka bottle consists only of text and does not include any pictorial illustrations.

Hello,
I'm pretty sure that the logo I deleted is not PD-textlogo. The way in which the text is written, the effects and the font itself are imho clearly copyrightable. But I think it would be best if you indeed opened a undeletion request in order to discuss the image.

Hi,

I have canceled this validation. See the ticket #2009061810041547 for more details : M. Bollée is clearly NOT the only copyright holder for this picture.

Hi,

Why was this image deleted? The deletion request is empty. If I remember correctly, it was a photograph of a public monument.

Hello,
It was indeed a public monument, but the poem is not in the public domain and Freedom of Panorama in the US does only cover architectural works.

Can we have a reference that this poem is still copyrighted? The article page seems to imply that the author encouraged it being cited. If the poem is not in public domain, should it be deleted from the article page as well? Has the engraving of the poem on the public monument in the deleted image violated the poem's copyright?
Would be great if these questions were answered in the deletion request perhaps. Thanks, Dan Dascalescu 14:36, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Hello,
Niemoeller died in 1984, which makes all his works copyrighted until 2055. FOP in the US only covers architectural works, which makes the image a copyright violation.

I see; how about the other two questions? -- Dandv (talk) 00:12, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Hello,
I'm not involved in the English Wikipedia and I suggest you discuss it at the image talk page.
The second question is of no concern here, as Commons policy is very clear on this subject.

Salut!

Why do you supress "Archivo:Hornos felguera.jpg" in the article "Fábrica de La Felguera" and from commons? Merci!--Yandrak (talk) 18:13, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
The image was falsely tagged as being in the public domain and therefore deleted as copyright violation.

File deleted

Why did you delete the file File:Endalkachew_Mekonnen.JPG ? I specified why it was not protected by copyright under Ethiopian law... Did I bother searching this information just to see this image deleted ? " Vob08

Hello,
I'm sorry, but don't bear the name and address of the author or his agent, they are not protected is a very weak argument. The picture does not become public domain because we don't know who the author was. Even if that would make it public domain in Ethiopia, but not in the US and an image has to be free both in the country of origin and the US.

File must to be deleted

Hello, Pjotr!

Can you delete the file File:Botulism pathogenesis scheme.svg? It needs deletion, because it is my derivative work (picture based on the book illustration). I loaded this image into Russian Wikipedia as «fair use» image here: ru:File:Botulism pathogenesis scheme RU.svg. Also, I use the {{Template:Speedydelete|Derivative Work}} on the image page.

Thank you in advance, --Rino ap Codkelden (talk) 17:30, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
