Structures[edit]

Hi there, and thank you! I create SVG structures with ChemSketch 10.0 and Inkscape, and 3D models with Accelrys DS Visualizer. A brief "tutorial" on how I make SVGs is here, it's the very last thing at the bottom of the page. As for 3D models, I use the process described by Ben Mills, another user who creates excellent chemical structure images—you can find it here.

Immagini[edit]

Grazie per il cortese pensiero, tanto più gradito in quanto inatteso. Personalmente avevo scelto di non creare una categoria con le mie immagini, in quanto mi pareva troppo arrogante farlo. Le categorie servono per argomenti importanti. Ho però curato per mio piacere ed utilità delle User galleries, dato che era ammesso a tutti farlo, con immagini raggruppate, volta per volta, in base al tema: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:G.dallorto#Le_mie_foto_-_My_own_pictures_I_contributed
Se non ti offendo preferisco non aggiungere altre foto a quelle già scelte da te. E' anche interessante vedere quali immagini gli altri giudichino valide. La sola eccezione che mi ero concesso era per le foto di nudo maschile, Category:Pictures of the male nude by Giovanni Dall'Orto in quanto senza una firma erano prive di senso.
Cmq ti ringrazio per la gentilezza che mi hai usato, che ti assicuro mi ha fatto molto piacere.
Quanto partecipare alle votazioni su Commons, ho visto che vengono richieste qualità tecniche che con la mia Sony tascabile mi sogno di poter raggiungere. Ma sono cmq contento di contribuire a Commons con quel poco che riesco a combinare anche così. :-)

Comment I think this is a good clean illustration of a (jacketed) agitated vessel. I am not very knowledgeable within chemical process technology, but when reading the article this gives a clear impression what it is about. It seems for me that an important aspect of the scheme is that the vessel is jacketed. Therefore I am inclined to think that jacketed should be part of the scope. However, I am not sure and I would like to hear the nominator what he thinks about it. Furthermore there is an aspect about the figure that I do not understand, and that is the purpose of the baffle? It is not explained in the description and it is not clear for me from the figure. Maybe the figure could be supplemented by additional information like the typical construction material/purpose of each element of the vessel? Last but not least, there is also an Italian version of this figure, which is equally good. You're right, this is a "Jacketed agitated vessel".

The scope of the baffle is to make the liquid surface quite horizontal (otherwise it will be on a funnel form, with a decrease of the mass transfer coefficient and heat transfer coefficient. I explained it and other aspects on Italian page w:it:Miscelazione, that need to be translated and added to the English page w:en:Mixing (process engineering).

Ok. I can support the modified scope. Honestly, I am just a dumb physicist and I regrettably still don't understand the purpose of the baffle and how it can keep the surface more horizontal. Is the baffle a structure which does not have rotational symmetry around the axis of the rotor? What is it typically made of? Each agitated vessel have generally 3-4 baffles. They are made of the same material of the vessel (tipically steel) and are fixed respect to the wall of the vessel. I like your new category, Category:Trimers, good work!

I saw in my watchlist that you put Category:Acetone peroxide, Category:Sulfur trioxide and Category:Trimethylindium in Category:Trimers.

I undid these changes because although these substances can exist as trimers (not really in the case of Me₃In, that was just part of a crystal structure), they don't always (SO₃ is often monomeric).

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Purtroppo il bug è di Wikimedia e non sono in grado di intervenire così in alto! Però, conoscendolo, gli ho girato attorno: il rendering di WP ha problemi quando gli oggetti con gradiente di colore vengono ruotati di un angolo maggiore di 90°, bisogna cancellare gli oggetti afflitti e ricrearli, poi gli si dà nuovamente il gradiente di colore. -- Fulvio ³¹⁴ 22:55, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hot water boilers[edit]

Hi, Daniele,

Glad to see an engineer interested in heat equipment.

The image shows (fortunately) three different types of hot water boilers (romanian: cazan de apă fierbinte - CAF), an CAF 7A (left, 10 Gcal/h), an CAF 6 (middle, 20 Gcal/h) and an CAF 5 (right, 50 Gcal/h). These boilers are common in Romania and used for town heating, please see another at Tulcea, in the Danube delta.

Sure, these boilers looks like steam generators, but all their surfaces are preheaters, they don't have vaporiser nor superheater. Their output is hot water, at 20 bar and 150 °C (winter standard for Romania).

At the end of that page is written: "Copyleft © 2015 Trapani Nostra - Il contenuto di questo sito può essere liberamente riutilizzato citandone la fonte salvo per quelli a questo sito concessi e coperti da copyright". It means that it is in the public domain (=copyleft) and can be used citing the source.

I had also contacted the webmaster of the website (Lorenzo Gigante) to confirm that I can use those pictures because he took by his camera and they have copyleft.

What a pity that you recategorised the spaghetti images. I had taken the trouble to find out which ones were, and which ones weren't made in Italy and now you have thrown them all together again. You destroyed quite a lot of work that I had put into it. I did it to prevent weird non-Italian versions of spaghetti dishes appearing as if they were actually really Italian. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.
