Deleting of Mini 7 Racing Club photos

I've emailed the photographer and he says its ok for me to upload them to Wikipedia.
I then forwarded to the general email address (info-en-c@wikimedia.org) this email.
Could you please undelete the photos and repost them to Mini 7 Racing Club Season.
Thanks,

Hello, Denniss. I was under the impression that screen captures from movie trailers between 1923 and 1977 were considered public domain; there are many, many examples of this throughout Wikipedia -- Dr. Strangelove, for instance, has many. Am I wrong about this? These three (plus the others I'd like to upload to the Bonnie and Clyde movie page) came from the trailer supplied as a "bonus feature" on the 2008 DVD and hence there's no website to ask permission. Thanks, Denniss -- HarringtonSmith (talk) 21:53, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Also, I screwed up the upload on the first of today's four (the one at 19:06), so that oughtta be deleted right this very minute. Thanks, Harry -- HarringtonSmith (talk) 22:02, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Ujevic file

I just created a crop of File:Tin Ujević.jpg. I have no idea as to the licensing and authorship of the image. (the same is the case with all the images I've recently been notified about. I usually just repair and modify them, I don't upload them :)

I basically just wanted to give you a heads-up regarding File:Tin Ujević.jpg, but also about File:Croats2.jpg, which incorporates it (along with a number of other images of questionable copyright status). --DIREKTOR (TALK) 19:28, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Robot Changes to Wyrdlight Images

Hello Denniss - maybe you can help? I have tried to collect together all the images I've uploaded into a category page called "Wyrdlight" which took quite a while. Someone has then applied a Robot to these images changing the Category to "Images by User:Wyrdlight". Because they've used a capital "U" in the word "user" the categorisation has been ineffective. Presumably there is a Wiki policy somewhere which prohibits the use of categories of user names - if so is it possible to have the robot run again properly? Who do I need to ask to do this? Thanks for any help. WyrdLight (talk) 16:09, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

There's no problem with this category, maybe you didn't see it because it's a hidden cat ? See Category:Images by User:Wyrdlight. To view hidden cats go to preferences -> appearance -> advanced options. --Denniss (talk) 18:44, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Many thanks Denniss - a last question - why is this category hidden? WyrdLight (talk) 08:25, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

I don't know, policy I believe as it's no an image-related cat but a user-related cat. --Denniss (talk) 14:31, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi Denniss, My name is Jason Young alias ACSpectre. I am the son of the late Paul Young of Sad Cafè and Mike + The Mechanics. Hi Denniss. This pic - here - I was wondering why did you request permission for it? All the meta data is there which asserts it originates from the original and the image is not found at another Internet location, all of which leads me to assume good faith and accept the uploaders claim - is it the default position to request permission? Off2riorob (talk) 21:07, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

A new user with only one upload and a professional-looking image is always questionable. We too often had those images taken from somewhere and uploaded to Commons with wrong authorships claims and a fake free licenses. We also often had new users choose a username similar to the photographer name just to get those images stay here. --Denniss (talk) 14:56, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I see such often also. but if you have the meta data and the picture is not to be found elsewhere it is a strong case. I was involved in the editing at the BLP the picture was uploaded for and there was a statement of paid editor so I was in little doubt it was official , anyways the OTRS support wont do any harm , thanks for explaining your rationale, regards. "Possible" copyright violation

As you say: there is a "possible" violation. You're not sure yet. Please here me out before you tag a page for deletion so soon, especially one that is already used.

First of all, the author took it in either 1941 or 1940 (most likely 1940) and the autor died 70+ years ago (before April 1941). And on top of that: I have acquired permission from relatives of the orginal author to use the file. Please take this into account and do not make such a harsh decision. Yours truly, Batavier2.0 (talk) 11:25, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

The 70 year regulation is only effective at the end of the year, not exactly death of author + 70 years. Please provice a permission for image usage. --Denniss (talk) 11:29, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
I will, I will. May I send it by mail? Batavier2.0 (talk) 11:30, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
I have now send a mail to this adress: "permissions-commons@wikimedia.org". Hope this suffices. Batavier2.0 (talk) 11:41, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Could you also please stop reverting my changes on wikipedia? Nothing is final just yet. Let's wait, okay? You're not being very helpful. Batavier2.0 (talk) 11:50, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:IMG 8847-1.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Hi, I could see no particular reason to doubt that this low resolution (cellphone maybe) shot was taken by the uploader. Similar to another shot that they uploaded then cropped. So I have removed the template asking for an explicit OTRS permission be sent. At most I think it needs some sort of model-release warning.
I do think that your original template pertaining to the original upload by a different user was probably valid, it appears to be a collage of various images, and probably should be deleted. I'm not sure what process is needed just to delete that version, probably a note on the admin page, or maybe move the latest version to a new name then process the original. --Tony Wills (talk) 10:01, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi Denniss, glad to discuss with you. I sent an email to the author of this photo of me. He's a friend of mine and he let me the right to upload all photos that he made of me! So he gonna send a email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org to give the authentification. It's just a question of time. Thanks. Jérémie C.

Why? sorry my english is bad, do you speak spanish?...

  • It's just words and the cross, so it's legaly. I know it because i did others images and anyone was deleted (images with words of the cover).

This photo is from a US government website and is thereby considered public information. See website www.nationalmuseum.af.mil for this disclaimer. Though the photographer is not named, the photo does belong to the US Armed Forces. Thus, not requiring permission to use the photo.

No, the USAF websites also host content from other agencies and from companies like Boeing or Lockheed. Usable media has to be clearly marked as USAF photo to be usable here under the PD-USGov license types. --Denniss (talk) 17:24, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

AJ Perez image

Hello Denniss,

What should I do in order to keep the image that I uploaded? I just found it in Google and here is the direct URL. http://xernest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/1_595998414l.jpg. It's just that this young actor just died, and I want him to be remembered. Looking at his wiki page without his image makes me really sad. =(

I'm looking forward to your reply soon.

Thanks,

Look for an image available under a free license. Or ask the TV network the image originates from to release the image under a free license. --Denniss (talk) 11:07, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

I had a quick look using google (you can specify what licenses to look for in advanced search), but found no free images of him. I suggest that you go to fan sites or search flickr.com and ask someone to release one of their images under a free license (something like cc-by-sa-2.0). But make sure it really is their image to give away (eg they are the photographer) and not just something that they have gotten from elsewhere. --Tony Wills (talk) 12:59, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

RE: File source is not properly indicated: File:MTA Maryland Services.jpg

You're mistaken, sir. The file does have source. I created this myself, and it's under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License. --ETLamborghini (talk) 16:02, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

There's no source other than an own work claim. I saw some of the source images in your uploads but not all. Please upload all source images and backlink to them from the compilation.--Denniss (talk) 20:02, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
None of the individual photos used in the image are uploaded on Commons. You want me to upload all the images used to make the compilation? And if so, why wasn't I informed I had to do this back when I uploaded the original image on March 9th?--ETLamborghini (talk) 22:04, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Also, I've seen similar compilations from other user's who claim the photos used in their compilation are theirs, and they didn't have to do what you are asking me to do? I still have the individual photos from the compilation, but I don't understand why I'm just being told to do this.--ETLamborghini (talk) 22:48, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

I wrote the author for permission for this image and he agreed to change the license. Can you please provide me these details so I can verify why this was deleted so quickly? --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 21:21, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

It was deleted because the Flickr Uploader linked to a commercial photographer site. There's a need for proof the Flickr uploader actually is the photographer. --Denniss (talk) 21:48, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Can you please provide the url and the listed issue so I can research if this was correctly deleted? I do not have access to the deleted file. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 00:11, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
Although I didn't receive any details on why the image was initially deleted, I learned that because the image was linked to some other Flickr user's version, this one was considered not to be released under a free license. The source links to the author's Flickr profile (see name and link to the commercial website) and the permission applies solely to this image. As I frequently have authors who wish to link to their own commercial websites, that shouldn't indicate the license change on Flickr doesn't mean anything. Authors are willing to release an image or two possibly to drive more traffic to their sites for potential clients. I'm not sure if we're holding the image to a higher standard since it's a professional looking shot, but it does meet all of the requirements for seeking the author's permission for a free license, properly attributing the author, as well as listing the source. If the image was uploaded from some random site not affiliated with the author, the OTRS permission would definitely be necessary. --Happy editing! Hello,

I don't understand why you ask an authorisation for this picture. The uploader (who is the author) gave explicit authorisation by mentioning a cc-by-sa-3.0 license. Udufruduhu (talk) 07:43, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

This user uploaded two small resolution files with no exif data (camera info). If the user made the images himself there would be no problem to upload the original high-res image. Small-res no-Exif images are often seen when taken somewhere from the net, especially if uploaded by a new user with no action seen anywhere at Wikipedia except for these two images. --Denniss (talk) 10:31, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Ok I understand, this looks suspicious. Thanks for the info. I contacted the uploader on his home wiki in case he wouldn't come back here any time soon. Bye, Udufruduhu (talk) 11:13, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi, why are you adding again that template? Los Mochis is a city in Sinaloa, Mexico, and it's illogical to add sources because it's a city. And another thing, those pictures in the collage were taken my myself, and the collage was made by myself too. And why did you undo the page? because I edited the description before and i needed to do it again. Answer soon. Ahhh by the way I erased that template because it sounds illogical. Greetings.

If you are the creator of the source images, please upload them as well and link them from the compilation page. We had too many compilations with bad source images in the past, leading to the deletion or modification of the compilation. --Denniss (talk) 11:31, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Rookie Blue

Hey, thanks for bother about the picture, i'm not very familiar with the rights of pictures, so i didn't knew that a closing-in on this ad is a problem. Now a question, is it ok, if i just crop the sky (top and right) and leave the complete front of these hotel or whatever?--CennoxX (talk) 12:17, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Rivera Mural National Palace

You placed a no-source tag on File:RiveraMuralNationalPalace.jpg. The source is me. If youre concerned about copyright 1) it is not derivative as there are people in the photo as well as the mural and 2) even if it were, the photo falls under freedom of panorama under Mexican law (see http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Freedom_of_panorama#Mexico ) For these reasons, Im taking off your template and putting on the {{FoP-Mexico}} Thelmadatter (talk) 15:06, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

I was not concerned about copyright but about the source as the transwiki operation was not done right. --Denniss (talk) 16:45, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Questionable Flickr images/Users

Hi Denniss,

I just want to clarify these images that i have uploaded here in commons.

Lily Loveless [2]

I have asked the permission of the original owner which is Kirill photography to use this photo here and they have let me use this photo provided that they will be credited which I did in the description. Please see the email correspondence below:

I'm Giel from the Philippines. I would like to ask for your permission if I could use this photo of Lily (http://www.kirill.co.uk/headshot-photography/actor/headshot-actors-18.htm) on her Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lily_Loveless). I'm planning to upload it on Flickr or if you have a Flickr account I can link it there. Hoping for your consideration. Thank you.

Hello Giel. You can use this photo but only if you credit it as 'by Kirill Photogtaphy"

Ellie Goulding [3]

I have asked the permission of Louie Banks if I may use this photo here, sadly I haven't received any response. I will be deleting this photo in my flickr and please also delete this photo here in commons.

Thank you. Please do let me know if there will still be any issues. --XgieLmOrex (talk) 12:52, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

This is a permission for wikipedia-only and that's by far not enough. It has to be released under a free license to be usable for anyone. One major fault was to upload it to Flickr without restricting its usage by setting it to all rights reserved (that's a copyright violation you might be sued for). Please speedily remove both or change them to all rights reserved. --Denniss (talk) 14:43, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, the picture was on fr.wikipedia since 5 years and I didn't think that the original uploader, User:Nico@nc, made a copyvio. Bloody-libu (talk) 15:08, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

No problem. But for the next time please double-check the license claim, especially if the image is a manufacturer image. --Denniss (talk) 16:45, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
I'm working on fr:Catégorie:Image attribution and I'll verify for each picture the licence claim. Thanks. Bloody-libu (talk) 16:53, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Flipped image

Hi Denniss. Thanks for attempting to correct File:"A Chinese soldier guards a line of American P-40 fighter planes, painted with the shark-face emblem of the `Flying Tige - NARA - 535530.tif I only just noticed because my bot kept mysteriously dying whenever it got to it. :-) In general, though, I think it is generally accepted practice to upload modifications under a new name. I understand that this seems like more of an error fix than a new derivative, but the image description represents this image as an exact copy of the image in the National Archives' catalog, so it is quite confusing (and possibly misleading) to see that they are not identical. If there is truly an error in the National Archives' catalog that could be fixed, we have a process in place for reporting errors to them at Commons:National Archives and Records Administration/Error reporting, and such corrections made to the catalog will then be pushed to the Commons descriptions as well. Thanks. Dominic (talk) 07:20, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

I have seen the own work claim. What I can't see are the source images to verify your claim - these have to be either your own work or have to be available under a compatible free license and their authors and sources have to be stated. --Denniss (talk) 21:26, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Foto "stephan_aube.jpg"

Sehr geerhte Denis,

You noticed that the photography called "stephan_aube.jpg" I uploaded wasn't authorized to be used. I know personnally the photographer and she left her rights for the use of this photography on Internet worldwide. Sorry that I didn't make it correctly, I tried to correct it. Thank you for your help.

--Denniss (talk) 15:55, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

India Press Information Bureau images

Hello, on File:Jairam Ramesh 5.JPG you said that the license was valid. However, there's a problem that I checked at Village Pump/Copyright about: Commons:Village_pump/Copyright/Archive/2011/07#India Press Information Bureau images. PIB releases only under certain conditions -- on reproduction and usage, and these conditions don't seem to meet any compatible license criteria. Do you differ from this opinion or is it that you think that a deletion discussion is required. cheers. SpacemanSpiff (talk) 05:13, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Why was the obviously wrong license template not redirected to copyvio or a similar deletion template? This would be the easiest way to get rid of these images and it prevents further uploads. --Denniss (talk) 17:57, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
I wasn't even aware of the template until I came across yesterday's images, I've just been cleaning up based on the source and I'm still trying to get a hang of the way things are done here at Commons. Anyways, now that it's redirected, I'm guessing the individual images will all get taken care of. cheers. SpacemanSpiff (talk) 18:40, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

I understand the compilation is your own work. But are the source images your own work as well ? We are only able to verify your own work claim if we have access to the source images. To often we had to delete nice compilations because at least one source image was taken from elsewhere or had an incompatible license. --Denniss (talk) 14:01, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Denniss: I brought this case to Commons:Village_pump#Collages.2C_montages_and_.... It's not personal - and this case may be indeed a case of duck test - but I see a slippery slope in demanding uploads to justify earlier uploads. NVO (talk) 15:22, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

You just deleted this for missing infrmation. I wasn't aware of this, but I can tell you that this photograph was took before Titanic sinking in 1912, and published in many newspapers that year in US and UK. Author seems to be unknown, but I think it can be PD in US/UK. LittleTony87 (talk) 01:02, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

The image should have never been transferred to Commons without proper source/date of creation. Impossible to verify copyright protection without this.--Denniss (talk) 01:19, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

--Denniss (talk) 22:20, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Denniss. The question was about author, and i prowided two sources, where this photo was pulished. One source prowides an "unknown" author, another - prowides no inforation about him at all. According to the fact, that photo was made before 1938 it seems like PD-old to me. What do you think about that?--Сергій (обг.) 19:13, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

For PD-old you need an author, for PD-Poland as well. --Denniss (talk) 22:26, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
And if the author is unknown, how old the photo must be, to be PD-old?--Сергій (обг.) 10:17, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
Due to different copyright regulations it's hard to specify. I would assume pre-1900 could be somewhat safe if a source verifies the date of creation. This is not a legal advice, just what I believe/assume. --Denniss (talk) 11:26, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Images deleted despite copyright information

Please advise exactly what to do as I have provided the copyright information for the images uploaded repeatedly. Thank you.

Hi, please be carefull this kind of mass nomination for speedy deletion, at least the first one I checked contained a suitable license at the file itself. Jcb (talk) 21:49, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Please have a look at Commons:Deletion requests/License "adding my name directly under the photo" - as soon as the additional restriction was placed on the image page it rendered the standard license invalid/non-compatible with Commons. --Denniss (talk) 21:51, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
Ok, but if there is also a valid license, just keep the valid and remove the invalid. Jcb (talk) 22:29, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
No, the restriction counts for the image as a whole, not just for the specific license template it was placed under. It may be an acceptable restriction for GFDL(don't know) but if the author used GFDL on some of his images, he would have to change it to GFDL-1.2 or the standard GFDL will be migrated to cc again, rendering the image useless. --Denniss (talk) 22:34, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Are you blind?

Do I need to take a screenshot of the source at http://www.happy-world.com/en/ and circle the license part for you? Shii (talk) 03:25, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

No I'm not blind. There was no direct source given, cc-by-3.0 and cc-by-nc-nd-2.0 are placed next to each other at the website. License status is unclear and I had to choose the most restrictive one which is incompatible with Commons. --Denniss (talk) 03:29, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, that's not what the message you gave me said ("there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license"). I personally think the less restrictive license is the one that applies, can I just remove the pastel box you put on the image? Shii (talk) 07:23, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
If the situation is unclear we can't just assume the less restrictive counts, if the info is conflicting the most restrictive license has to be accounted for so the image had to go. The only other option is to send a mail and ask for a usage permission under a free license or to resolve the conflicting info on their site. --Denniss (talk) 14:14, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Gallica OTRS

Hello, I don't see the need for an OTRS ticket for the Roger Pic photographs; indeed, it is specified on Gallica (link « informations détaillées », upper-right corner of the image page on Gallica) that those pictures are public domain (Roger Pic's rights were bought by Gallica some time ago, and pictures have been put in PD). Likewise, this previously updated file is in the very same situation and has been left as is. Do we really need an OTRS ticket? Cordially, Pmx (talk) 01:00, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

As you don't seem to answer this question, I may just change the license to {{PD-Author|Roger Pic}}, remove the offending deletion flag and see what happens... Though I'm quite reluctant in lauching an edit war, I consider that whenever the public domain license is written on the original description page of a picture from a well-established site, amongst which Gallica definitely is, OTRS tickets are irrelevant. A bit suspicious but hard to tell. No hits in tineye or google images (other than wiki). --Denniss (talk) 21:33, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

I added source information based on the content of an email we received. I'm not familiar with Polish copyright law to know if it's public domain or not. I don't think the current license tag applies either. Feel free to re-tag if you like, this is not an area I am an expert in. – Adrignola talk 17:55, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Many would use PD-Poland for this. But the larger version contains "wszelkie prawa zastrzezone" = All rights reserved thus ruling this out. The website publishing the maps release them only for noncommercial re-users. --Denniss (talk) 21:30, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

You have deleted several files (eg File:Samsung Galaxy S II (2).jpg) that I uploaded today raising concerns about "screenshot of running software" and "background image". The only software that I see running on the screenshot is a clock widget (which lacks any originality) and I own the copyright of the background image (I took this shot myself). Please elaborate on the reason for deleting this file. Regards. Mro (talk) 12:32, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

About my deleted files

Some Baklava for you. What about my question of deleted files sir. Without giving answer why you deleted them.(File:Blue star akal takht.jpg. Sir I add copyright links of this photo from SikhiWIKI which is an online open-content encyclomedia. If It doesn't give free license then remove license tag which I add and recommend it for deletion. Please verify it sir. Tell your decision sir.) sridhar1000(talk)

Did you really see a source and author at the wiki?!? There's just an uploader but no information who made the image nor under which license it's made available. --Denniss (talk) 13:59, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

Sir I add a really colored version of your image why you revert it. sridhar1000(talk)

Because it's not the original file from LoC. It was also tagged as duplicate as you uploaded it over another image as well. --Denniss (talk) 14:30, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
File:Vasco da Gama entrega a carta do rei Dom Manuel I de Portugal ao Samorim de Calicute.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Commons:Questionable_Flickr_images. At the moment we have problems with both the Flickrupload and the Flickrreview bot as they have problems to filter these user out/block uploads from their Flickr accounts. --Denniss (talk) 12:20, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Recent deleted files

Hey, you recently deleted files I uploaded to Commons and the explanations are displayed on my talk page. Aside from a possible copyright violation, can you please go a little more in-depth as to why you deleted them because the pictures have the CC-BY Some rights reserved license on Flickr and, according to Wikipedia, that's OK. Joao10Siamun (talk) 03:40, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

The Flickr uploader is on the bad user list because he/she offers images at Flickr under a free license despite taking them from other sites or commercial services. Please look at [10] - it's even marked as coming from professional image service Getty images. Sadly both the Flickr upload bot and the Flickr image verification bot currently fail to prevent/detect images from this sources so they have to be deleted the hard way. --Denniss (talk) 21:53, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Beringer Altmann artwork files by Kunstkenner

You marked two of my uploads used in the article de:Beringer Altmann for deletion. Those were photographs of two artworks by Altmann from a private collection. I just today send the permission of the owner of the artworks to the permission-adress. So I hope the pictures will not be deleted. Kunstkenner2011 (talk) 19:26, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

The owner may give any permission he wants - not relevant other than for a personal permission to create the images. But the artwork is still copyrighted so to release your images under a free license you have to have permission from the original author or his heirs. --Denniss (talk) 21:47, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Re: File source is not properly indicated: (File:Drowning Pool at Fort Wainwright 2010 Ryan McCombs 3.jpg)

I may have improperly listed that when uploading, I dunno. I'm busy enough lately to be half asleep half the time. That particular photo was not found on Flickr. Rather, a lower resolution version is found here. When I originally found that, the indication I received from the site was that it was PD as a work of the federal government (the photo was by an employee of the Fort Wainwright Public Affairs Office). The URL I provided with the upload appeared to be the same photo from the same source, only a higher resolution version and perhaps hosted on a third-party website. Hope this helps. If I'm mistaken, please let me know so that I can figure out what to do in the future. Thanks.RadioKAOS (talk) 13:08, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

I amended the image page to show both the information page from your link and the direct link to the high-res image. --Denniss (talk) 13:54, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Gumball 3000 images on the Maximillion Cooper page

I am writing in regards to a number of images that you deleted on the Maximillion Cooper page. We appretaite your efforts in removing images from wikipedia that have been uploaded despite copyrights, however the images that you have deleted were uploaded by the copyright holder, even if done incorrectly without noteing this. Maximillion has asked me to get into contact with you in regards to these photos, as we are unable to reupload the images because you have already deleted these phots.

Is there any way that you could reinstate these images? Kind Regards, Edward Smith (working for Maximillion Cooper). An example of the images deleted are: File:Max and Eve.jpg and File:Maximillion Cooper.jpg

Please send a permission to OTRS (instructions there), naming at least these two deleted images. If permission is sufficient these images will be undeleted and available for use. --Denniss (talk) 15:02, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Dana Tai Soon Burgess

I was trying to update a widely used headshot of Dana Tai Soon Burgess to his wikipedia page. I am a Washingtonian and he is the foremost dance figure in D.C. - so I would think it appropriate to have a headshot on his wiki. The picture is from a U.S. government source (one of the copyright options) so I am unsure as to why it was deleted.

The deleted images had no valid/verifyable source or lacked permission and were deleted. One image was deleted today because it had just a general link to a site and I couldn't find it in the small (free?) image section. --Denniss (talk) 21:44, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Deleted files

Dear Denniss, As I can see you deleted some photos from Borys Kolesnikov’s article. According to your explanation there was no permission for them. It should be some mistake, because I contacted the owner on August, 25 and she gave the permission for every single photo I uploaded. I resent her permission with licensing information on August, 29 to e-mail: permissions@wikimedia.org. Here is the full list of the files which were getting the permission: [File:Електропотяг Hyundai .jpg] [File:Борис Колесніков.jpg.]

Please, restore the photos, which you've deleted: [File:Donetsk.jpg] [File:Air2011.jpg] Thank you in advance for your cooperation.Miu2010 (talk) 14:31, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Mana Sama

In regarding this, I did some digging. The image is from the same set as this image. You can see the water mark and copyright info at the bottom. I think waiting 7 days may be waiting too long, as the image is most likely unacceptable unless there was an OTRS release. :) Ottava Rima (talk) 17:22, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Permission

I sent the email giving permission to use all images that I uploaded. Can you please explaim why you still need permission? thumb|Red Tide Luizpuodzius (talk) 05:10, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Received an email in 2011091710003821, but it's from a Yahoo address, so I can't really say it's definitive since it's a free email provider. That makes it not much better than the original uploader's assertion. So we're in something of a quagmire here. – Adrignola talk 15:40, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
Well....Since my email, a Yahoo address, can't really say it's definitive my OWN WORK, can you please point out an article/tool/help instruction to help this amateur user how can I definitively show to you that work that a created is realy mine?

Would a link to "Photobucket.com", or other web base picture storage place could help us? Would it not be a good idea if Wikimedia had a "Upload media for dummies" article, so retards like this user that address you, could learn how to avoid quagmires e/or Catch-22s caused by inexperience or lack of cognitive power? I have some articles in Wikipedia, Adrignola, that are linked to the pictures that are disappearing. Thanks! Luizpuodzius (talk) 15:56, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

If the image was not already uploaded to Photobucket, uploading it now to a hosting service would only have people saying you took the photo you tried to upload here and uploaded it there. Transferring the issue to me won't really solve the problem. I only handle emails providing permission when they are requested. Denniss is the one who stated that they lacked permission. If he has nothing to back up his claim that the image lacks permission, he should restore it himself and you should request that he do so or at Commons:Undeletion requests/Current requests if you do not get a response. – Adrignola talk 16:19, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for responding my inquire. I am very sorry that I had to bring this conversation to your discussion page, instead of waiting for - only God knows when - Denniss' reply in his page.
I have done it due to the fact that when you said that ...so "I" can't really say it's definitive..., I've - erroneously - believed that you were the one that had the power to make jugment/verification of ownership of images.
I apologize for my conclusion; and I will go back to Denniss' discussion and place a link to "photobucket" wich holds lots of artwork there (SEE

[11] since Member since 06/01/2006. The images that the ownership have been questioned were uploaded there years ago, for this reason, nobody can argue that the ...image was not already uploaded to Photobucket,...

Further support for my claim of ownership of the images can be found by visiting this site:

http://community.how-to-draw-and-paint.com/photo/2036495:Photo:1560305?context=user#!/photo/2036495:Photo:1470701?context=user

But....., it is to be talked to Denniss, not here.
Maybe one day, he will decide that this user, me, has the right of an answer.

Thank for landing me your ears.--Luizpuodzius (talk) 02:11, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

NEW UPLOAD

Obviously, we are not communicating; thus, I decided to upload a new file (File:SearleSign.jpg without your input. I have noticed your preocupation about "owership" of images upload to commons, and request - if you could be so kind as to - prior from removing this image, to let me know how can I satisfy your requirements for verification of ownership. Perhaps I could, if you wish, also upload the image of the letter (from where the signature image was created) that was sent to me (Luiz Puodzius) by John Searle to be used as proof of ownership. Can you please inform this humble servent of wikimedia, if that would be the best path that should be followed to make you happy? Thanks --Luizpuodzius (talk) 15:59, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Hey there. I just saw that this image was removed from Commons. Can you tell me the reason? Also wondering why I wasn't notified of a pending deletion. I sent permissions and an email directly from the photographer. Did you receive the email that I sent on July 20, 2011? The permission was for two images, specifically

  1. File:St_Giles_House_Dorset.png
  2. File:Shaftesbury_Estates_running_path.png

Your help is appreciated. Best regards, Cindamuse (talk) 14:12, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

Hey, you deleted my photo "Boguslaw_jasinski.jpg" i didn't know how to categorize it, but it was my Grandpa and i've got his photo, so i didn't know how to set 'the owner'

cheers

Carl Kotchian jpg deletion

Denniss, I do not remember exactly if with the picture of Carl Kotchian I put:

PD-Italy: Italian copyright law provides for a shorter term for "non-artistic" photographs, that is 20 years since creation. Despite the law lists exactly which kinds of photographs are or are not "simple photographs", is rather generous; this rule is difficult to apply accurately, and hence should be used on Commons very carefully.

The source of the photo is an Italian Newspaper (La Stampa), and it is a "simple photograph" older than 20 years.
I would like to understand whether your deletion (Sept 6) has to do with PD-Italy, or with the incomplete information I provided.
Thanks,

If he's really the spotter who's active on multiple sites (and not an impersonator ripping the images off the net but claiming to be the author) then it shouldn't be a problem to forward a permission to OTRS. --Denniss (talk) 19:14, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

File deletion OUIFI

Hello Denniss, I would like to understand why you deleted my 3 files? Just so you know these images are available on the internet, however, the files I uploaded where in fact main copies given to me by my production, so how it is that they were still deleted ? thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by OUIFI le chien (talk • contribs)

Just having these images is not the same as having the copyright on these images. Without having the latter you are not able to release them under a free lcense. --Denniss (talk) 00:35, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi, here you changed the flickrreview date to current, but the image is currently ARR so cannot be reviewed in such a manner. I have restored the original date. -mattbuck (Talk) 10:45, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Have you read the edit comments? The image has an invalid review tag as it was not reviewed individually but the tag just copied from the base image. Also the image is based on positively reviewed images at Commons (linked original was already here). --Denniss (talk) 16:18, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

:) Hekerui (talk) 21:27, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Hey, bei CA2010PREIMRE.jpg dasselbe! Wie kommts? Hekerui (talk) 21:28, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
--Denniss (talk) 23:28, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Redirect

Hello. Please do not restore a redirect to my old username as my reasons for CHU are privacy. I encourage instead to change the author field to my current username if you encounter them. I went through all of them after I finished changing usernames I think, but I might have missed some files.-ObsidinSoul 08:58, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

I have recreated the pages with __NOINDEX__ instead. Please understand that this has already been discussed with a bureaucrat.--ObsidinSoul 09:13, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
I have now deleted both the old user page and the old discussion page - both are not needed anymore. --Denniss (talk) 13:53, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
(sigh) A deleted page shows to whom exactly the page has been moved to and I do not want that as it defeats the purpose of why I changed my username in the first place. It has been discussed with a bureaucrat already and I really do not want to discuss this with a regular user. I have nothing to hide with my contributions (you can check, I am also primarily active in the English Wikipedia), so please accept this in good faith. If there was a way to completely erase it without showing history I would have already asked for it, but there isn't. In the interest of protecting my privacy I have restored both pages with a __NOINDEX__, please do not delete it, remove the __NOINDEX__, or do anything that will point to my new account. Thank you. --ObsidinSoul 03:05, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
Your old username is still visible in move logs and in logs of your new userpage. It's simply not possible to erase this. This also does not justify creating empty pages in the user namespace that don't belong to you. --Denniss (talk) 13:55, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
Yes I am fully aware of this as already mentioned, and these logs are sufficient to comply with openness and attribution requirements of the Wikimedia Projects. The advantage is that outsiders seldom know how to view these logs. But once the pages are deleted regular users who may stumble upon the username through Google would be able to immediately tell to which the account has been moved to, because it is displayed prominently in the deleted page "User:X moved User:Y to User:Z". By NOINDEXing the pages, I also stop people from finding it in the first place. All of these mean the pages have to exist.
I do not own the pages of course, but neither do you. I only ask that you respect my request for privacy and keep the pages as is. I have not violated any copyrights, all my contributions are done in good faith, my edit count is also substantial and I think it's fair to say, I'm an experienced editor and in good standing with the community. And as I keep repeating this has been discussed with a bureaucrat who agreed that this was the best course of action. No offense, but I do not want to discuss this with a regular user, even an administrator.

OTRS for my photo

Hi Denniss. Yesterday you wrote in my talk about OTRS for my photo: now I have watched this example (in Italian) and now I have ritten an email (with my personal email, that is the email of my commons.wikimedia's USER) at permissions-commons@wikimedia.org (the object of my email is OTRS per http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Francesca_Lukasik.jpg - ah, I wrote in italian language in my email to the OTRS)‏. Polite requests for undeletion at en.wp, which you are removing without reading

I notice you recently deleted File talk:Pooh hunny hunt entrance.jpg. You'll see that the very page which you deleted contains text asking for you to place a request for undeletion at English Wikipedia if the image is ever deleted. However, you didn't do that. Redirect deletions

Hi,

Could you please explain why you've deleted File:2002-2004 Land Rover Discovery II V8 5-door wagon 01.jpg and File:2002-2004 Land Rover Discovery (MY03) V8 5-door wagon 01.jpg, when deletion policy indicates file redirects should not normally be deleted? There is potential damage to external users in deleting these files, and no benefits internally, in cases like this where the file was uploaded years ago and the redirect is not misleading.

There's this thread on the ANU about it. Suggest you comment there.--Nilfanion (talk) 10:07, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

One was a redirect without existing target, both were not in use by either wiki. That's a valid speedy deletion. --Denniss (talk) 15:17, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Redirect do not have to be in use to be kept though. We should keep redirects resulting from old files being moved - even if there is no use of it on Wikimedia projects; they are not generally speedy.
In this case, there's complication of a double page move in a minute - but the long-standing file name that is File:2002-2004 Land Rover Discovery II V8 5-door wagon 01.jpg should redirect to the current name of the image.--Nilfanion (talk) 15:24, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

What are you doing?? Seems disruptive...

Here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File%3AMia_Gundersen.jpg&action=historysubmit&diff=61825857&oldid=60856942 - that seems disruptive, bordering on vandalism. I also reversed other tags by you. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 21:52, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

You should clean your glassses, or in case you don't wear glasses - get some ! These review tags are duplicates, one review tag is enough. These duplicate review tags are placed via bugs in the upload form/wizard. --Denniss (talk) 21:55, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Ok, sorry about that. I had just found out when I looked at more of those edits. May I recommend the use of edit summaries? /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 22:02, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Usually yes to edit summaries but not when I'm in the process of deleting hundreds of images. Was also pretty self-explanatory to see duplicate tags vanish. --Denniss (talk) 22:05, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Flickrreview

What is the purpose of edits like this? Isn't the bot review at time of upload sufficient? If not, I guess I could take to signing these myself at time of upload. The re-review at a later date has the odd characteristic of not being correlated to the license at time of upload. - Jmabel ! talk 00:07, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

The image was not reviewed by the Flickrupload bot, the tag was just copied from the source image already present at Commons. The flickrreview bot noticed this as invalid tag and listed the image here. AFAIR the image was on archive subpage 3. --Denniss (talk) 00:47, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I see. When I extracted from the original image, I copied the Flickreview tag along with the rest of the description. I'll know not to do that in the future. - Jmabel ! talk 02:38, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Sidenote: I don't think a Flickreview is needed at all for a cropped image as long as the source image is already present at Commons with a valid license and review. --Denniss (talk) 02:42, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Why did you delete this? Do you know how flickr uploads work? That file was waiting for the flick upload bot to upload to it until you deleted it. Will you kindly restore it?

Same with File:Hawaiian Sweet Potato God.jpg and File:Bishop Museum Kahili room with royal portraits.jpg.
Please try to upload the files again, something was broken and the bot refused to upload them. --Denniss (talk) 05:20, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
(EC) Re the first file: it was created two days go - to you really think flickr upload bot takes that long? Seems to have had an error. Suggestion: Use http://toolserver.org/~magnus/flickr2commons.php - I prefer it. It uploads faster and with GPS info. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 05:21, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
My watchlist has a ton of articles that I've create on the same day, and flickr upload bot only got to them today. Check [15]
Uploader has to manually start the upload process via clicking a link from within the bot prepare template. I started the uploads of all ~60 images and only those failed completely. See User:Flickr upload bot/token--Denniss (talk) 05:30, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Can you give me the list of all of them because I feel there is more than these three since I'm not sure if I place most of them on my watchlist. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 05:25, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Um. Yeah. Can you restore them? The flickr upload tool seems to say I've reach an upload limit.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 05:30, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
I'll restor the pages but you'll probably get the same error message I got (user initiating upload never edited the image page (or similar, can't remember exactly). You reached the upload limit because I started the uploads and they seem to count for the user preparing the uploads. Limit seems to be 20 or 25 uploads per hour. --Denniss (talk) 05:50, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Can you restore File:Ku woodcarving in heiau.jpg too and any others that you may have deleted? I don't remember their links, descriptions or categories or which ones you've deleted. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 08:51, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Have restored this file for you. I was about to upload it since bryan's bot doesn't recognize this image anymore. But: This is a sculpture on Hawaii - how old is the sculpture? Why is it public domain? I have also checked your recent deleted contribution: there are no other prepared uploads. Only many deleted pages due to rename/duplicate which were not deleted by Denniss. Deleting of Dale-A-Kimball

Denniss,

I do not understand why you deleted by picture of Dale-A-Kimball.jpg. I had the licensing and filled out the appropriate fields I thought. Can you please explain I have going to meet Dale Kimball in person to make sure the information I have written about him in my sandbox is accurate. I would like the wikipedia to be complete when I go see him and see no reason that the picture should be deleted because it is in the public domain. Thanks --U0601079 (talk) 18:20, 3 November 2011 (UTC)U0601079

The source claims the image was provided by a US district court. This may or may not be the case, impossible to determine without exact source or permission. --Denniss (talk) 19:12, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Picture upload

Dear Dennis, you have deleted a picture recently from Commons, Bajnai_Gordon.jpg, if I remember the file-name right for copyright violations. Please, let me know how to upload the image on Picasa by the author of the picture for free use with all the licenses, so it will not be deleted from the commons! I tried Picasa, but beside sharing an uploaded picture to the public, I haven't found any Copyright or license settings to be set. Please, help! Thanks a lot: Ljubicahej

question

You recently deleted File:Air Canada Jazz, Prince Rupert BC.jpg and File:Actress Rachel McAdams arrives at "The Lucky Ones" premiere during the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival held at the Roy Thomson Hall on September 10, 2008 in Toronto, Canada.jpg with the edit summary "Broken Flickr upload".

Could you clarify what you meant by this? Did you check to see whether the link to the flickr page was still valid? If so, can I assume the link didn't work? If not could you please restore these images? If the link is still valid I will try to upload them again.

Thanks Geo Swan (talk) 18:35, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

There was no file/image, just the description page. That's why they are gone now. I don't know if the images were ever uploaded by the bot, at least nothing visible in the log files. Both files were reported here. I'll check the source images and upload them if still present. --Denniss (talk) 20:10, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

So, can you explain why did you erase this file twice?

SaqueosCaracazo.jpg and SaqueosCaracazo2.jpg

These images are free to use, since it can be located even in Flickr as I pointed, with Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic (CC BY-NC-SA 2.0). The link is http://www.flickr.com/photos/quecomunismo/3318469379/in/photostream/

However, I searched over internet and I found what I see is the credit for the original photographer, and I pointed it in http://www.minci.gob.ve/reportajes/2/174751/el_pueblo_venezolano.html

For you to understand it, the file "Caracazo, 1989.jpg", which you allowed for use inside Wikipedia, doesn't belong to www.venezuelatuya.com

That's a huge lie and you guys gave permission. www.venezuelatuya.com, which is not even an known page inside Venezuela itself, just published it as any other person could do it on the internet ; however you let the publishing because some unknown person said: "Publish it, no problem" (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Autorizaciones/Venezuelatuya). You must to be kidding.

I hope you could publish these files finally.

Thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Caracazo1989 (talk • contribs)

Hi Caracazo. I believe that the image was deleted because the flickr link was checked, and was found to be CC-BY-NC-SA, which is not a compatible licence for Commons - all Commons content must allow commercial use. Further, the flickr source states the photographer to be "Tom Grillo", but the name of the flickr account is listed as "Bernardo Londoy". This likely means that Londoy uploaded this without Grillo's permission, in a process which is called "flickr washing" - claiming a CC licence on an image you have no right to. Unless we have permission from the author that the image is suitably licenced, we cannot keep it here. Further, from what I can see, that permission you linked extends to textual information, but not necessarily images. -mattbuck (Talk) 02:40, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for answering, but please, can you explain me why did you guys keep this next file inside Commons? http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Caracazo,_1989.jpg

www.venezuelatuya.com is not the owner from that image, alike "Bernardo Londoy" in Flickr.

The statement in http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Autorizaciones/Venezuelatuya is a fake, don't ya think?

Furthermore, Tom Grillo's pictures are widely shared in Venezuela and most countries in Latin America and the rest of the world , government and many expos use their pictures, Take a look at:

- A newspaper from Venezuela: http://www.elperiodiquito.com/article/3338/--El-Caracazo--en-im-genes-de-Tom-Grillo-y-Frasso

- A web page from Venezuelan Government: http://www.avn.info.ve/node/45325?page=1

- Another site from Venezuelan Government, which I mentioned earlier: http://www.minci.gob.ve/reportajes/2/174751/el_pueblo_venezolano.html

- A newspaper from Cuba: http://www.granma.cubaweb.cu/2011/02/24/cultura/artic08.html

- Even Terra Chile is using these pictures widely as well: http://www.cl.terra.com/terramagazine/interna/0,,EI8867-OI3879964,00.html

besides I don't know if the guy is still alive.

Since everybody use widely these pictures, I assume that these are for free use, and Wikipedia can't get just a single, just ONE picture, that is ALL I need??

Again, why did you keep http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Caracazo,_1989.jpg, since www.venezuelatuya.com is not the owner from that image???

Thanks for helping,

I have now nominated that image for deletion.
Regarding your point that "other places use this", for us that's really not relevant. Maybe these sites have agreements with each other and others just stole them, who knows, but unless we can be sure that an image is freely licenced we cannot host it here. That means we need to know who the copyright holder is, and get permission from them, or an explicit statement somewhere else where it is used. -mattbuck (Talk) 05:01, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Deletion of the portrait of Mario Monti

Hi Denniss, I noticed that you deleted a photo of Italy's new PM Mario Monti (File:Mario_Monti,_President_of_Bocconi_University,_Milan_and_former_Commissioner_for_Competition.jpg) as a copyright violation because it was originally uploaded by a "questionable Flickr user". I think you're mistaken, the Flickr account belongs to the Italian subsidiary of Burson-Marsteller, and since most of the other pictures they uploaded were not released under a free licence, I have no reason to believe that they just used the same licence without first determining the copyright status of the file they were dealing with. Cheers, Commecicommeça (talk) 01:50, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Luisana.jpg

Hello, Denniss. As Luisana Lopilato‎ is on my watchlist I noticed the Delinker bot removed a link for the image you deleted. I had checked the file page for the image and saw that the uploader referenced the publisher's creative commons license. Since I cannot read Spanish, and am trying to learn more about image use, can you tell me if the publishers creative commons license was inadequate? I did notice there was no reference to "by-SA" on their licensing page, but thought that might have something to do with my lack of ability with Spanish. This is a low priority request and I appreciate any assistance you can offer. Regards Tiderolls 04:30, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Flickreview bot

Dear Denniss, I'm afraid the situation has still not improved. MGA73 said he still has Not been able to contact Bryan which means Commons is stuck. Sometimes, I wonder why there couldn't be another person to fix this bot. This is just an update. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 03:13, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

At least the bot gained some speed back, now it checks multiple images in the minute it is able to to these checks per hour. I still assume it's a problem at the Toolserver or the bot just needs a kick at his virtual butt. And yes, were are desperately in need of a new maintainer or a completely rewritten bot. --Denniss (talk) 04:08, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
  •  Comment: Sometimes the flickr bot marks 2-3 images per minute but its very irregular. Without Bryan, the flickr bot is still malfunctioning. We do what we can but its not enough as the backlog grows. MGA73 knows this and he has his own bot. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:08, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Think of removing file from articles

Hello Denniss, Please make sure that all the insertions of files on all wiki's are removed when you delete a file. With Škoda_S180RS.jpg this hasn't been done. Pay more attention for this next time as this make articles on Wikipedia's ugly. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 20:19, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

That's not my problem, that's a problem of those uploading copyvios. --Denniss (talk) 22:45, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Certainly not! You as admin are responsible for making sure that files that are inserted somewhere all are corrected at the time of deleting the file. Just waving your responsibility away, doesn't make the responsibility disappear! Otherwise please do not delete files if you aren't capable of handling them in the right way. Don't leave the mess you create to others! Greetings - Romaine (talk) 03:34, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
Romaine, you have it completely backwards. First, the CommonsDelinker bot automatically removes deleted file from articles on local Wikis. Second, Commons Administrators delete approximately 1,050 file per day. Seven of us, including you, Denniss and me, do about 60% of those. We are barely keeping up with the backlog -- whatever the merits of Jcb's de-Adminship, it reduced our capacity.
There is no way in the world that an Admin can or should spend time tracking down each use of a file and removing it from every WP on which it appears. I occasionally change files on various wikis and even when the language uses the Latin alphabet, it is very time consuming to work in a language that you cannot read. A removal in Arabic, Hebrew, Thai, or Chinese can take me ten minutes. The bot is much better at it.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 15:57, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
I think we have a shortage in users who do that work, probably because of that some admins create extra work for others, and that is not something I think is good. But, as long as delinker is used, it is fine.
But I just stumbled on File:RZRv3iopened2.jpg. Reason scaled down/duplicate as given reason, but on articles the file still was present - red link - I think with a duplicate/scaled down evrsion who should at least link to the original/duplicate one. Missing here... Romaine (talk) 04:05, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
PS: Not to blame anyone or something, just requesting a little bit more care. Romaine (talk) 04:16, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Restore this picture

Dear Denniss,

I think you should restore this picture per the uploader's request. It was uploaded by Mary Harrsch who is a solid contributor to Commons and generally knows more about copyright than me. Maybe you can send her a message? Please look at this two cases here and here where she got the OTRS permission too. I'm sure one can trust her. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:10, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

  •  Comment: We even have a Category for her photos here and this is her Flickr account. I contacted her a few times years ago like this to get a few pictures licensed copyright free. So, yes...I accept her word but you can restore the image and then send a message to her here on Commons or at flickr or E-mail her at her homepage (given at her flickr account)...after you restored the image if there is a license problem....or if you don't trust her still. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:14, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Block of User:Farisori

Hello Denniss. I've noticed that you've blocked User:Farisori citing «abusing multiple accounts» as reason, stating that User:Rogers0797 is a sockpuppet of him. I was a bit surprised since I know that user from eswiki and he is a bureaucrat there. It's possible that I've missed something, I don't know; but I can not see a relationship between both accounts except that both contributes to Chile-related articles and that they've interacted a bit on eswiki. What reason lead you to believe both accounts are related? Best regards. --Marco Aurelio (disputatio) 14:44, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Deleting two pictures

Hello, I noticed you deleted two pictures on a page I was editing. It was a completely new RAZR page translated from the original english version (to dutch). You deleted the two pictures, and now i can't reupload them. I uploaded them and put the Creative common license on them (as stated on the original source), is it possible you un-delete them so the article is okay again? Thanks! :)

Best regards

--Bastiaanfranssen (talk) 20:43, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

They have been deleted because they were just smaller versions of images already existing at Commons. I also deleted the new images beause you had no intent to add a proper source or properly attributing the uploader. I assume the master images were at Commons as well. Ever tried to use images from here ? --Denniss (talk) 23:12, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Ohh...Well I tried using them from common, but I don't know how to link them in my article. How can I link the pictures in common to show up in the article I have written?
Thanks for you help!!

Flickr review Category

The flickr review bot isn't working too well this last 12 hours and I'm not surprised. Al Jazeera licenses some pictures freely and suddenly there is 850+ images here for flickr review? No wonder the flickrbot isn't working well. I have flickrpassed or failed some images manually...but not from Al Jazeera. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:57, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Deletion of Knight XV monaco

I am curious as to why you have chosen to suggest I do not have right to use the image in question File:Knight XV monaco.png..in fact I do and can submit the appropriate permission letter if need be.

--Creativebuzzz (talk) 20:51, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Very low resolution and multiple hits in image search engines. --Denniss (talk) 22:30, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Low resolution? if that's all I can supply a much higher resolution.. and because it has multiple hits in image search does not suggest the I have not acquired rights to use the image in my article. --Creativebuzzz (talk) 22:37, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

lf in DR?

Hallo Denniss, are you aware that your "lf" significantly changed the comments of those two users? If yes, why are you manipulating them?

Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 01:55, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

I don't see what your issue here is Saibo - I don't really see the need for Deniss's "linkfix", but I don't see any harm either. -mattbuck (Talk) 02:14, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Ah, well, thanks matt. I did not know that the linked files are deleted and therefore the link after the "lf" looks equal to before. However, if the files should exist again at some point in the future the comment is significantly manipulated → no image instead of a image (without a note that something has been changed in a comment by someone else). Furthermore I see no use in this "lf". --Saibo (Δ) 02:27, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Rotation

Why did you want to rotate that picture : File:Accroche murale SGTE.jpg. It was it right direction. Kyro (talk) 16:23, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Denniss, apparently you forgot to answer but instead continued to tag with 0° (2011-12-20T22:21:06‎). --Saibo (Δ) 02:52, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
It was tagged because the EXIF reset was wrong in this case (and in several other images). --Denniss (talk) 09:14, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it was - but the file was right after your revert and then you added the rotate|0 tag. Please tell me if you do not understand German. ;-) --Saibo (Δ) 15:18, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Note that I have reverted your recent 0° tags - I cannot see a good reason. This 90° rotation was wrong, btw.
I regard our apparent communication problem (you refused to reply/comment at the block case at COM:AN too) as problematic. --Saibo (Δ) 13:09, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
Sag mal, was soll das? --Saibo (Δ) 18:31, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Soll ich jetzt gerade mal überall reverten? --Saibo (Δ) 18:40, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Erl. --Saibo (Δ) 19:50, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Also note the 1969 copyright notice on it. I've now tagged it as lacking a source of permission. --Stefan4 (talk) 20:26, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks - I was too distracted to look at the licensing. --Saibo (Δ) 21:00, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

altenating rotations?

Hi, why did you decide to turn 90° two files: File:Chichilla-Paw-Back_leg.JPG and File:Chichilla-Paw-Back_leg_turn.jpg It was the same picture in both arrangements. You turned horizontal one into vertical, and vertical into horizontal. Why? Nonsense. You made a confusions in wiki articles. I have reverted one of your rotations, but after that I saw your rotation in another one. Decide how sholuld we leave that files. Jacek555 (talk) 14:18, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

They had EXIF rotation set, so they had a different orientation everywhere before October or November or whenever the system upgrade was. Some users are currently rotating a lot of images which got the wrong orientation after that upgrade, so expect to see more image rotations in the near future. --Stefan4 (talk) 00:57, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

there is a permission to use this picture sent already to the appropriate e-mail address permissions-commons@wikimedia.org a couple of days ago ! Please check a corresponding message from paulcastley@yahoo.com from Dec 16, 2011 09:54 AM: Here is the according text, as suggested in the help section of WikiCommons

Dear e-mail response team (ORTS),

I hereby affirm that I, Paul Julius Castley, am the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of the attached photograph of Everlyn Sampi, created by myself in December, 2003 in Sydney, Australia. I agree to publish that work under the free license "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0" (unported). Hallo!

--High Contrast (talk) 16:48, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

own work

Hey the photo is own work Carliitaeliza (talk) 17:29, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

If you define "own work" as self taken from another website and uploaded here then yes, otherwise not. --Denniss (talk) 18:23, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Why did you delete my image? I have copyright on it and permission by the individual photographed to use it.

The image in question is http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kristen_Iversen_in_Jeep.jpg

The caption for that image says "Photo by Greg Larson" (and there is no indication that that is you), there is no metadata and the image is web-resolution. All these things point to a copyright violation. Perhaps you might want to upload a higher resolution version - that way we'll know you didn't just pick it up from the website. I'm sorry for this, but people upload copyright violations here all the time, they claim they took photos of celebrities that featured in magazines and have big watermarks on them. We take copyright very seriously, so please understand that, if you are the author, it is you who we are trying to protect. -mattbuck (Talk) 22:09, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Hallo!

--Denniss (talk) 02:57, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Question

Hi Denniss. As you know, File:さつま町.jpg was deleted. I guess that file was deleted because the uploader didn't provide sources. Two of them were taken by other users and shown as source. I think that others were taken by the uploader, but files were not shown and the user might think that "self-report data" is enough evidence. What kind of difference is there between that file and File:Montage_kansas_city.JPG, File:City_of_Brighton_and_Hove_Buildings_Montage_-_Town_Halls.jpg, File:Cartagena,_Bolívar,_Colombia.jpg, File:LaApartada.jpg, File:Van Collage.jpg, File:Adana-Intro.jpg, File:Otaru Montage.jpg ? Hi Denniss, thank you for your swift action regarding the False Lamar spanish version.jpg image, however I do have a slight concern. I am a little worried that the discussion may have been brought to a premature end. I had commented on the valid concerns of the other two editors, and asked for clarification on some points raised, to help me decide whether I oppose or support the deletion. I feel it's quite possible that the other two editors are busy, and that 20 minutes might not have been long enough for them to have responded if they had wished to do so. Of course, if they chose not to respond within a reasonable amount of time I would have most likely made a decision on my support or opposition and expressed as much, in fact I think it's rather fair for me to have the opportunity to do so, as I donated the image in the first place. I certainly would like to know why you yourself feel it is an 'attack image' because feelings about that appear quite mixed especially from different cultural perspectives. If the image is indeed offensive to some of the American readers, I would like to know. Indeed if you'd like to expand on your views I would invite you to do so, that I can tailor my contributions to English wiki better. I look forward to your attention to this matter.
