Betreft foto van The Byrds[edit]

Hallo Mathonius,

Mijn contactpersoon aldaar was:

Ruud Roben, Brand Manager Catalogue, Sony Music Entertainment Netherlands, 'Muziekpaviljoen' Sumatralaan 45, 1217GP Hilversum, Phone: +31(0)35.6.298.142

Laat maar even weten s.v.p.

Groeten,

Hendrik99

Met vriendelijke groet, Mathonius (talk) 06:35, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Message from Candice Lee[edit]

Hi Mathonius thank you for your help!! I am quite lost about how to do this whole message thing on wikipedia.

How would i know if the following users i'd posted a message to reply me? Would i get notifications?

Thanks again for your kind help Mathonius.

Candice — Preceding unsigned comment added by Candicelee (talk • contribs)

Hello Candice, thanks for your message. No problem, I'm happy I was able to help you! I imagine it can be quite confusing and overwhelming.
First of all, it's important to know that Wikipedia and Commons are two separate wiki's, and there are many different language versions of Wikipedia. The most well-known language version of Wikipedia is the English Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia. Commons is a media repository. All media (such as images, movies and sound clips) on Commons can be used in the articles on Wikipedia.
You're asking an interesting question, because a new notification system is currently being developed. That notification system already exists on the English Wikipedia, but it doesn't exist on Commons yet. On Commons, there are basically two ways to follow replies to messages you've posted on other people's talk pages:
  • Add the talk page to your watchlist by clicking on the star-shaped button on top of the page. You can also add media files to your watchlist, so you can follow any changes to any pages you've added to your watchlist. Check your watchlist by clicking on the link "Watchlist", which leads to this page. If someone changes a page that you've added to your watchlist, that change will be visible on your watchlist. You can also set your preferences so you'll be send an email when a page on your watchlist has been changed.
  • Ask the users to notify you about a reply. They can use the {{Talkback}} template for this purpose. That template can be added to your talk page. If someone changes your own talk page, you'll see an orange banner, which notifies you about the change.
When you post a new message on someone's talk page, use the "Add topic" button on top of the page. When you reply to an existing message on a talk page, click on the [edit] link next to the title of the section. For example, you can reply to this message by clicking on the [edit] link next to "Message from Candice Lee", above this section. Add the reply directly below the message you're replying to, and make an indent by adding an extra colon before your reply. Don't forget to sign your messages by ending it with four tildes (~~~~), which will result in a link to your user page, and the time and date of the message.
Please let me know if you have any more questions! Mathonius (talk) 10:02, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mathonius,

That was extremely helpful. I'm going to try out your tips now! Thank you! I'll be sure to look for you if i've got more questions.

Cheers C

Hi Mathonius,

I am trying to contact the person who uploaded the following image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Diu_Braun_Hogenberg.jpg#filehistory , to gain copyright of the image to be used in a film.

The source is listed under the name Victorcouto. However it seems that that user does not have a user page on Wikipedia. Would you know how i can contact him/her?

Thanks! C — Preceding unsigned comment added by Candicelee (talk • contribs)

Hello Candice,
You're linking to a file description page on the English Wikipedia: the file description page actually exists on Commons, but you're viewing it from the English Wikipedia. At the top of this page, there's a banner saying "This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons. Information from its description page there is shown below." Click here for the file description page on this wiki. You'll see that there are now links in the "File history" section. You can contact the uploader, Victorcouto, by posting a new message on his talk page at User talk:Victorcouto.
There's no need to ask for permission to use images on Commons to be used in a film. The uploaders already gave their permission when they uploaded the image and licensed it under a free license (see for example this license). Most of these licenses say that anyone can use the file for any purpose, as long as they make mention of the creator's (user)name. In this case, the image is in the public domain because of its age, so you can use it for any purpose without asking the uploader for permission. Check the "Licensing" section on the file description page for information regarding their copyright status. See Commons:Reusing content outside Wikimedia for more information.
Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 15:47, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mathonius,

Would you know if that means that i would be able to use the image if they are in Wiki Commons, for the following rights: All Media, Worldwide, and In Perpetuity?

Cheers Candice — Preceding unsigned comment added by Candicelee (talk • contribs)

Hello Candice,
Basically, yes, but some restrictions may apply, depending on the file and its license.
Regards, Mathonius (talk) 20:10, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wonderful. Thanks Mathonius, you have been a really great help! Appreciate it.

Warm regards, Candice

File:Tuica.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

File Urs Wäfler[edit]

I saw there was a deletion request. I would support such a deletion. There is no public interest, this person is not a public person like for instance Barack Obama. Maybe he is a sort of a busybody, which should not be supported. We should rather respect his privacy. Also there were doubts if this person really exists, maybe it is a fake. A ticket in OTRS is not an evidence for the an existence in the real world. In general there seems to be something wrong. It is a kind of a poverty testimony, if Wikimedia Commons is dependent on an image of private person. Shame on it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.76.230.130 (talk • contribs)

Thanks for your message. This file was used in the 2011 WMF board elections, and now, all of a sudden, there's some controversy. I'm wondering why. Anyway, I was the one who nominated the file for deletion, using the rationale provided by 188.62.78.219 on Meta-wiki. The deletion request was closed by Jcb, so I'd advise asking him your questions instead. Mathonius (talk) 11:11, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It was quite strange. There is a newspaper in Switzerland, which used this picture last year. It was in the edition of 05 November 2012. After the editorial staff has noticed the error, it removed it from its offical website. Have a look at it: http://www.blick.ch/blickamabend/epaper/. You can access it still through the URL: http://php.blick.ch/baa_epaper/2012-11-05_zh.pdf. But it was an error, that was the reason, it has been removed from the offical website. So, please delete this image from Wikimedia's server too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.76.230.130 (talk • contribs)
Probably there is nobody against a deletion of this image. Please proceed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.76.230.130 (talk • contribs)
This person is not notable. Please follow the notability guidlines for people and delete this image. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.105.220.123 (talk • contribs)

Happy Holidays[edit]

Happy Holidays!
G'day, just a quick greeting wishing you and your family happy holidays and all the best for 2014. And of course, a big thank you for putting a leg up by doing what you do on Commons, and helping to make it the fantastic project that it is. Greetings from a warm west coast of Aussie. russavia (talk) 01:43, 24 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Russavia. Best wishes for 2014! From the cold and rainy Netherlands, Mathonius (talk) 20:51, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rename of Marina Yannakoudakis to Marietta Giannakou[edit]

Hi Mathonius... I think you have made a mistake in renaming two of my Commons images. There are different two European Parliamentarians, one is Greek and the other is British. The files were previously correct but now you've renamed them to the wrong person. Why did you do that? :-) Could you please reverse it? Thanks, David. Diliff (talk) 06:02, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm so sorry, David. Thanks for pointing this out. Someone had added one of the photos to an article about the Greek MEP, and I couldn't find a Europarl biography on Yannakoudakis... I've reversed the rename and removed the picture from the Wikipedia entries where needed. Mathonius (talk) 06:14, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all, thanks for correcting it. I also saw that you (correctly) updated the category for Hans van Baalen, so thank you for that also. We're at the European Parliament at the moment so we don't have a lot of time to check everything - we are trying to upload as fast as possible as the MEPs are asking to see their photos immediately, so we occasionally make a mistake. Diliff (talk) 09:31, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I appreciate your work very much, by the way. I enjoy adding your photos. :) Regards, Mathonius (talk) 13:36, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Ocupación estadounidense de Veracruz.jpg[edit]

Yes, Mathonius; I am sorry about that. At first I intended to request the deletion of the jpg file. Shortly thereafter, I realized that a better alternative for me was to substitute the false photograph with a legitimate one, which I did. It seems to be fine. I appreciate your understanding.--Wkboonec (talk) 13:39, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! Mathonius (talk) 22:18, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

AaronDemarest[edit]

Hi, Mathonius. How about annoying our colleagues by writing in Dutch for a change? (For everyone else's convenience, Google Translate is available right here .)

"Anders moddert hij misschien zo voort" heb ik alvast uitgeprobeerd: Otherwise he might muddle so forth. — Not bad. ;-)

Erg fijn. Vriendelijke groet, ErikvanB (talk) 12:36, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bedankt voor de afhandeling, Natuur! Ik heb mijn lesje geleerd. Mathonius (talk) 09:00, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Dear Mathonius, here is a damaged heading. Can you fix it please? They won't let me, you see. Not even me, imagine that! But Adelbrecht, who wrote the page, can destroy as many things as he wants. What's more, he gets away with it too! Yes, they're pretty hopeless around here, aren't they? Thanks. ErikvanB (talk) 18:31, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh dear, it's a translation, so all you had to do was use this fancy Translate tool! Don't worry, I've already fixed the damage for you. That's what I'm here for. Mathonius (talk) 19:17, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Funkyxian (talk) 12:24, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
