Hello, Schwede66!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thanks for uploading File:Styx River.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Twelve Local Heroes

Hi Schwede66, the names of the sculptors of the statues in Category:Twelve Local Heroes are missing. In addition, as these sculptures are still copyrighted, you should add FOP-cat or -template at upload. --Túrelio (talk) 08:19, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Natürlich, aber warum hast du dann auf meiner Disku eine Notiz hinterlassen ;-). --Túrelio (talk) 08:24, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
Ok, the name of the sculptor is Mark Whyte. No trouble adding this detail to the uploads. I sense, however, that there's a bit more to this. In particular, I don't know what that templates do and where they go, and whether there are any copyright or intellectual property issues. Can I suggest that you edit the File:Twelve Local Heroes display.jpg for me, so that I can see what needs doing? What else do I need to know?
And I left a note on your talk page as I didn't assume that you'd immediately watchlist me. Schwede66 08:30, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
I had already added FOP-cat to those images already uploaded. But it would be easier if you add Category:FOP to the description text at future uploads, as I assume that you copy-paste most of the description at upload. --Túrelio (talk) 08:32, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
I see. Easy enough. But where do I record the name of the sculptor? Schwede66 08:48, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
There is no fixed policy for that ;-). You could add it to the description; only take care that it is clear who is the depicted and who is the sculptor. Or you could add it to the author entry, such as xxx (sculpture) / Schwede66 (photo), or you could even add it to the source entry, such as Own from a sculpture by xxx. To be sure, one way of attribution is enough. --Túrelio (talk) 09:19, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Ok, that's sorted. Thanks for all your help! Maybe you could help with something else now. I've found those photos on Flickr and have asked the photographer to change the licence for it to be suitable for Wikipedia / Commons. This entry shows the conversation. He's now asking a question that I don't know the answer to. Can you advise, please? You can comment here (if you don't have a Flickr account) and I'll pass it on. Thanks for your help! Schwede66 17:44, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Yep, photos are all sorted. But I was ambiguous about Bob's question. Here's what he's asking: "I have changed the licence settings for all of these images to 'Attribution-ShareAlike Creative Commons' as you suggested. I guess I might as well do this for all of my photos. What are the main differences between the two options you suggested? Is one better than the other?" I've been using the photos with the Twelve Local Heroes article. Schwede66 17:43, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
 • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
 • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
 • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
 • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
 • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons from Flickr, File:Kenton Chambers Building 79.jpg, has been reviewed by an administrator or reviewer and found available on Flickr under the license Noncommercial (NC), No derivative works (ND), or All Rights Reserved (Copyright), which isn't compatible with Wikimedia Commons, per the licensing policy. Unless the Flickr user changes the license to one that Wikimedia Commons accepts, the file will be speedily deleted. Commons:Flickr files/Appeal for license change has information about sending the Flickr user an appeal asking for the license to be changed. Only Flickr images tagged as BY (CC BY), BY SA (CC BY-SA), CC0 (CC0) and PDM (PDM) are allowed on Wikimedia Commons. Once the license on Flickr is changed, you may replace the Unfree Flickr file tag with Flickrreview so that an administrator or reviewer can review the image again.

Hi there - have uploaded another 6 or so photos of the post-construction shared space into Category:Shared_space_in_Auckland. Ingolfson (talk) 08:14, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Fantastic - thanks! Schwede66 09:15, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Woolpress

Hi, next time you are at Okains Bay can you get another good shot of the press but this time show the mechanism that is used to compress the wool? The current one looks authentically messy but is just a couple of boxes! Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 23:54, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Ok. I shall try and remember that. So far, I've been to Okains Bay once in my life, so the frequency of visits isn't that great. Schwede66 07:10, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

My photos from flickr

Hi, After you pointed out on flickr that you had uploaded some of my photos here I've uploaded higher resolution ones here as flickr won't display full resolution since my account expired there. So far I've found the Okau Tunnel one (obviously) and now I found the Moki Tunnel ones and also added another one here: File:Moki Tunnel on SH43.jpg but maybe I missed some others I could provide better resolution. Also, if you could geocode them that would be helpful :-) Karora 09:35, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Also, feel free to e-mail me: andrew -at- mcmillan, net, nz if I missed stuff. Karora 09:47, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Great stuff. What happened is that I came across the group 'Creative Common New Zealand', went through the 750 or so photos and uploaded everything that might be useful for Wikimedia Commons (and was suitably licensed). I can't say whether I uploaded other photos of yours; there were heaps that were useful. Schwede66 18:58, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
I found another 19, mostly from my Taranaki visit last year, but some around Porirua where I live (I suppose I should upload more local images :-) - sometimes I forget about uploading to Commons, but perhaps I should just upload here in the first place, given how flickr don't make the full resolution available, and only show people the last couple of hundred of the several thousand I uploaded there. Anyway I'll try and upload better versions of the ones you found. Karora 07:07, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Video conversion

I could help you on this matter. It would be kind if you uploaded the two? original source files created by the camera somewhere else. --McZusatz (talk) 21:42, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

I have replied on your talk page. Schwede66 22:00, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Changing Help pages

You proposed to add some changes to the Video-Help pages of commons to be more user friendly. I think the first aspect was to add a note about the Video editor of YouTube. I could not find a place to put this by now (I don't think there is anything about Video editing (How to) on commons). Maybe a new section in Commons:Video would be good. --McZusatz (talk) 11:24, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Alternatively a new section could be placed in Help:Converting_video#Editing_tasks? --McZusatz (talk) 11:43, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Yes, possibly prior to all the OGV manipulations. Schwede66 18:27, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Feel free to change anything. --McZusatz (talk) 16:28, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Schwede66, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

 • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
 • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
 • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Uploading images from the National Library of New Zealand

Hello. Do you remember, how have you got the hi-res version of File:Brigadier Kippenberger and Captain McPhail examining a captured gun.jpg? Ain92 (talk) 14:17, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

I've put some instructions on the relevant category page, so that everybody can benefit from it. Schwede66 17:58, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I've just been fiddling with the description etc. The link back to Tapuhi seems to have rotted off. I put the question mark behind your date because NatLib says c. 1850 and the artist was born 1833 (I'm no artist and I may have done as well at age 12 but . . .). Fascinated that you have sufficient cheek to upload one of these so sacred images to Commons(!) If you don't like anything I've done there please let me know. Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 04:03, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. That's not cheeky of me; I'm simply playing by the rules :) I take it you've seen the link in the talk item above? Schwede66 04:57, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the info above. I tried it but was puzzled by the result which seemed to be no improvement but I do use a Mac. Anyway please would you tell me if you agree with me that these images are out of copyright: Cobar, Duchess and Skelleys and so will be available under the PD-NZ licence. If so I will try harder with your recommendation. Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 13:39, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
Cobar and Skelleys are definitely ok, but I'm unsure about Duchess. It's ok as far as PD-New Zealand is concerned, but I once ran into trouble because a file did not meet the requirements of US copyright, and given that Commons servers are hosted in Florida, US copyright also applies. I haven't been able to track down that discussion, and neither can I find the relevant US rules. So in short, you are fine from a New Zealand perspective, but you may not meet US requirements. So you can go ahead free of trouble from our library friends, and if we find out what the US requirements are, we'll add that to our instructions for further reference. I'd be interested to know how far you get with the instructions before you get stuck. It may well be that things are different for you because you are on a Mac, or it could be that they have made subtle changes to their website. Either way, we should update the instructions to suit, and I'd appreciate your help (don't regard the instructions as being owned by me; edit them as you see fit). Schwede66 18:40, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
I've just updated your instructions as requested but I don't know how to achieve a separation between item 9 (PC finish) and item 10 (Mac) if you see what I mean. Your instructions worked perfectly unless, like me, one has difficulty getting one's limited IQ into gear. I don't see why I thought I'd found a problem but I certainly hadn't followed the perfectly clear instructions. You know how it is, when all else fails . . . again. I've uploaded the Duchess image File:Duchess ferry beside HMS New Zealand.jpg which I now see was against instructions. Should I arrange a speedy delete? I think around 1910 their captains got drunk and drove angrily into each other (or just "refused to give way") which is why Cobar's appearance suddenly changed. I think they had rival employers. I must try to find out more. Thanks for your help. Eddaido (talk) 10:06, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
There is a good collection of old photos from The Evening Post and here is an example. Is there any way I can legitimately upload these Evening Post images to Commons? Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 22:24, 22 April 2014 (UTC)

Hm, I wouldn't go there. The Evening Post existed until 2002, was continued as the Dominion Post and belongs to Fairfax. As such, I'm guessing that the copyright sits with Fairfax, and I wouldn't take them on. I don't know whether you are placed in Wellington, but if you are, maybe have a chat with the Dom Post editor. I once nearly talked The Press into making their historic photos public domain; it's worth a try. Schwede66 23:23, 22 April 2014 (UTC)

The time lapse is just because I've been mulling over what you say. I suspect in this case your guess isn't quite right. Shouldn't there be somewhere in the New Zealand project where these things could be reported to have been ascertained and the knowledge shared? No, not volunteering, just wondering if it has already been done. Cheers, Eddaido (talk) 10:27, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
I've often wondered why there isn't an equivalent to Wikiproject New Zealand on Commons. It certainly would make sense to have it. Category talk:New Zealand is the closest that we've got; two of us seem to have it on our watchlists. Schwede66 18:51, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
Brooding about the various restrictions I came on an Evening Post photo that has been uploaded using a PD-NZ template and the only excuse I could find was that the photographer was unidentified yet presumably an employee of the Evening Post just doing his job. Here's the image File:Selwyn Toogood at the opening of the Self Help store, Lambton Quay, Wellington, 1956.jpg. Then, and this made me laugh out loud, I tripped over another which had an uploader with a familiar name, File:Cecil Wood, Rt Rev H St Barbe Holland and Will Appleton.jpg. So how is this image different from example? I expect there is an explanation but I'd love to know what it is, please tell me. Regards, Eddaido (talk) 22:11, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:BNZ Building, Lambton Quay, Wellington 001.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. Hi, we need to talk about the use of this pic on the Ford Motor Co page. Is this the right place to do that? Cheers, Eddaido (talk) 23:56, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

If you want to discuss the use of the photo on the Ford Motor Co page, it would be best to start a discussion on the related talk page on Wikipedia. If you want to discuss the image itself, it would be best to do so on the related talk page on Commons. I have now watchlisted both talk pages, so go ahead wherever that is most appropriate. Thanks for uploading File:Fraser-seine-marne.jpg.

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Fraser-seine-marne.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
Hi Schwede66, many thanks for all those NZHPT categories here! It has helped me a lot to get an idea about New Zealand cultural heritage sites. Maybe you will be interested in this. Cheers! Podzemnik (talk) 22:13, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Podzemnik, thank you kindly for the barnstar! Nice photos that you have taken; thanks for contributing to this project. Now, have you seen that the German Wikipedia has complete lists of New Zealand heritage listings, e.g. this one for Palmerston North? Schwede66 01:10, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Wow, I haven't seen it, thanks for the link! Very interesting. Maybe we can cooperate somehow or do more for heritage sites of New zealand. Few days ago I created this list for Palmerston. --Podzemnik (talk) 02:15, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:William Russell, ca 1878.jpg.

If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Congratulations, Dear license reviewer

If you use the helper scripts, you will find the links next to the search box (vector) or as single tabs (monobook). They are named license+ and license-.

Hi Schwede66, thanks for your request for license reviewer status. The request has been closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can now start reviewing files – please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Potential backlogs include Flickr review, Picasa review, Panoramio review, and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:

importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js'); // stable script for reviewing images from any kind of source OR
importScript('User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js'); // contains also user notification when review fails, auto blacklist-check and auto-thank you message for Flickr-reviews.

You can also add User license reviewer to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! User:Armbrust (Local talk - en.Wikipedia talk) 16:28, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

That's too true. What I did was to move the file from the English Wikipedia to Commons, and what I didn't do was to check that the license was fine. My bad. It's been on WP like this since November 2004 and obviously, it shouldn't have been. The original uploader, J.N. Houterman, hasn't been active since 2011. There is a credit to the "QEII Army Memorial Museum" with the original upload, and they are now called the National Army Museum. I've had a search on their page, but couldn't find this photo. Magog the Ogre, I thus suggest you simply delete this photo. Schwede66 05:10, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
You could send them an email asking if it's theirs, and if so, verify the permission with Commons:Email templates. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 05:31, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Rationale

On Commons we should be as much precise as we can and disambiguation criteria should be consistent. And, as matter of fact, there is only one David Jones who is a politician, no need for adding his nationality (btw if there were two, the disambiguation should be their birth year, which wouldn't change anyway, rather than his nationality that could change); as for the move, you're right, my mistake: I was called for a work and forgot to update the record on Wikidata so the template on the several projects could acquire the new category. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 22:54, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

You say: "And, as matter of fact, there is only one David Jones who is a politician". Well, on Wikipedia, I count 11 politicians who have the name David Jones. That's why I'm confused. With regards to disambiguation, are the rules on Commons different to those on Wikipedia, because disambiguation by country is certainly by far the most common way if there are people of the same type across various countries. Schwede66 00:01, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
Ok, but on Commons there is only one David Jones who is a politician. Should they were two, they would be disambiguated by year of birth. Commons is not an extention of en.wiki (to give you an example, whereas en.wiki categorizes for Italian footballers Commons categorizes, more correctly, for Association football players from Italy. The flaw is on en.wiki, not on Commons. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 13:15, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
PS. Of course, you might disagree, and if you feel we should find another method of disambiguation we can discuss publicly elsewhere. My only concern is keep consistency as much as possible.

Permission to use your image

Hi Schwede66, I would like to use your image of John Williamson found at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:John_Williamson_%28politician%29,_1860.jpg in a brazilian TV serie entitled "Critical Uncertainties". Please email me at teka.carbonell@gmail.com so we can talk a little bit more about my project. Thanks, Teka.

There's nothing that needs discussing. Files on Wikimedia Commons are freely licensed, and anybody can do with them as they please - that is the point of having Wikimedia Commons. But I'd be interested to hear what Williamson's connection was with Brazil; would be pleased to read your response here. Schwede66 18:17, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi Schwede. around 18 months ago you got the idea I had a vanity project about the early Ford assembly plant and associated businesses and uploaded the almost anonymous back end of a building with the Ford logo. The name of this file has to be changed, it is the back of the Colonial Motor Company building built 1922. On top of assembling Fords they were and remain Ford dealers all over the country. They do not belong to Ford and never have. The extent of my personal connection to Fords and Colonial Motor Co and the Gibbons family i just because I like old cars and was a long-time Wellington resident.

top floor ColMoCo Courtenay Place 2007

Please would you arrange to have this misleading file name changed.

This is the front side of the building since the 1970s when it was refaced.

I believe it is shaped to the scheme of a major shareholder and was inspired by a car radiator grille. https://www.flickr.com/photos/morepork/8256921944/in/faves-46477046@N08/

with offices and retail in the 2-storey part reaching to Courtenay Place.

Here's an image of the top couple of floors.

If it needs correcting, why don't you simply move the file? Doesn't sound very controversial, so what is holding you back? Or do you not know how to move a file and would thus like me to do it? Schwede66 04:29, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

Interesting request to take photos Mount Taranaki

Hello.
Not long ago I saw very interesting video.
In this video there is one photo Mount Taranaki taken from long distance. But there is no way to check from what height was taken with this photo (from video). So I decided to leave a request.
Please take a pictures Mount Taranaki from long distance.
For clarity, here are examples of places where you might take photographs.
I think it would be very interesting and will help to confirm or refute the above video. As additional useful information will indicate the website with the measurement of the curvature of the Earth.
I wish you tried to take a pictures the Mount Taranaki from the coast. Here is an example of not bad photo from the Panoramio: Lighthouse and Mt Taranaki at dawn.
By cons this photo include:

 1. small resolution (1024 pixels);
 2. © copyright.

The advantages of this photo include:

 1. exactly seen place from which the photo was taken. It allows to determine the height of the place where was the photographer and the distance to the mountain.

It would be great if you take some photos at various focal length. It also would be great to capture in the place where you will be the GPS navigation device. Because modern GPS navigation device show not only the coordinates but also the height and other data.
I hope my request for photos will be interesting to you and to other photographers from New Zealand: @Grapeman4: , @Alan Liefting: , @Ingolfson: , @Ambrosia10: , @Kiwichris: , @Lone Guardian: .

With best regards, Донор () 19:31, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

Google Earth tells me that I live 485 km from Mount Taranaki. Given that there are some mountain ranges between here and there, there's no need to climb up nearby Mount Herbert, which at 919 m is the tallest thing in my vicinity. Alan also lives in Christchurch, and Ingolfson lives in Auckland (275 km from his place). I don't know where the others live. Schwede66 19:51, 1 September 2017 (UTC)
OK. If you will be somewhere closer to the mount Taranaki because of Affairs at work, for example on a business trip. Then it would be possible to take photographs. With best regards, Донор () 07:57, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

bonjour ; Category:Females performing fellatio in art ???? ; 81.64.30.73 09:25, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Oui! You just have to look more closely. I took the photo in Amsterdam's red light district. Schwede66 09:46, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
Magog the Ogre, User:JLM has now twice removed a relevant category from this file. I'm not really sure what their problem is. Is there anything that you as an admin (I've just randomly picked someone who I've interacted with before) can do about it? Schwede66 06:40, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
I would leave a message on the talk page and ping the user and ask for an explanation. If none is received, restore it. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 19:35, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. I suspect that the anon above is the same editor. JLM, can you please explain why you keep removing the Category:Females performing fellatio in art when that is what is being shown on the panel in the foreground? Schwede66 20:14, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
where is the female ??? JLM (talk) 09:18, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
I've added a note to the photo. Hover over it with your mouse and it'll show up. Schwede66 09:25, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
thanks ! JLM (talk) 14:02, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Patrick Rogel (talk) 17:42, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

Patrick Rogel, you will find that the National Library of New Zealand claims that copyright applies to everything that they host, even though that this is clearly not the case for material older than 50 years, or where the photographer died more than 50 years ago. That's why the Template:PD-NZ outlines all these rules. I will have uploaded hundreds of their files but none in breach of the PD-NZ situation. Schwede66 18:37, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi. I've already undone this deletion request 1 day ago a few minutes after realizing my mistake. Kind regards, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 21:02, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
Patrick Rogel Yes, I saw that. I posted the above because you did not seem it necessary to do so yourself. Somehow, I don't like it having copyright notices sitting on my talk page without something that puts it in context. Schwede66 21:26, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello. You left a note on this deleted talkpage, asking about the PD-Mark:

I've just uploaded a bunch of photos including this one. Do I take it from the tags that a user cannot license their own photo PD, and that they need to choose a different license before I can continue with their files? Schwede66 19:54, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

The problem is that PD Mark 1.0 is a marking tool but not a legal instrument. Effectively the Flickr user is saying "I think this work is free of copyright, as far as I know," which makes it unsuitable for Commons. If it is their own work, they shouldn't be guessing the copyright, and instead need to use something like CC-zero. If it isn't their own work, they should show why it is free of copyright. If you have uploaded such files, please tag them for deletion. I hope that makes sense. Green Giant (talk) 14:45, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Thanks, Green Giant; that makes sense. There were eight photos (I think) in that batch and I’ll look through my contributions to find them. I’ll go back to the photographer (these are that person’s photos) and ask them to please change the license on their Flickr stream. Schwede66 15:03, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Excellent idea. If they do change to an acceptable license, please let me know and I'll undelete any relevant files without you having to go through the undeletion process. Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 15:09, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Green Giant, I'm a bit puzzled; those uploads don't show in my user contributions. I used flickr2commons. This was all done in one upload and from memory, there were about eight photos in that batch. Is it expected that using that tool, there's nothing in my user contributions? Or is it gone because somebody has already deleted the other files? Schwede66 20:56, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Hmm... is it not the first eight listed at Special:Log/Schwede66? If so, then they've been deleted. If those are the files, then the details are:
I hope that helps. Green Giant (talk) 22:14, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Yep, that's the ones. I was looking at Special:Contributions/Schwede66 and that drew a blank. Thanks. They are also on my watchlist (which I only checked right now); got deleted six hours ago. Schwede66 22:20, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
