Shape of nomination[edit]

Hi Ali, a question, this image look more like a bacteria, could you do it with the standard shape?. Thanks --The Photographer (talk) 15:47, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello The Photographer. First of all thank you for supporting the image.

This image looks like bacteria, but it is still right! Prokaryotic cells are divided into the domains Bacteria and Archaea. The reason that I diagramed the prokayotic bactrial cell is they are the most familiar ones. In my opinion, this image can indicate the general prokaryotic cell but I changed the description of that. Thank you for the notice. Ali Zifan 02:01, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your answer, in English Wikipedia nomination someone said the same. :) --The Photographer (talk) 10:49, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Hey Ali, I'd like to use your world's tallest buildings silhouette's for a kids' book I'm working on. I need 150 dpi or higher. You can reach me at graeme@graemestone.com, and learn more about the project at www.graemestone.com. It's a disaster book called "What Could Possibly Go Wrong?" I used building heights so kids can see how tall a wave is, or how deep an earthquake is, etc. You have some really great work and I'd like to use it. Minnesota Results by County, Request for Change to Iowa Map[edit]

Hey there! I made these two maps for the Minnesota primaries. They are the results of the primaries, both Republican and Democratic, sourced from the raw numbers thrown up on the Minnestoa's Secretary of State's official website. The light grey areas on the Democratic map represent areas where a vote was not counted or recorded. I didn't upload these png images to Wikimedia myself, seeing as there's already a batch of vector files, made by you, for each state's county results, and that it would be better to ask you to make the svg maps, so yeah. Feel free to update the svg files to the county results!

I'll update those as soon as possible. Ali Zifan 14:42, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I had asked earlier on some talk page that the map for the Iowa Democratic caucuses be change to reflect the fact that there were three counties that drew, rather than had called a victory for either Sanders or Clinton. Buena Vista, Calhoun and Henry drew, though this is not at all reflected in the maps you or others based on your map have depicted. Is it possible you can change the maps to reflect these results?

Thanks in advance. :) Philip Terry Graham 09:22, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Presidential primaries pie-charts[edit]

Hey Ali,

Love your maps. Had a little suggestion regarding the democratic 2016 primaries maps, specifically the one with the pie-charts (proportion of votes split between hillary and bernie). My suggestion is to always keep the green in the pie-chart on one side, and the yellow on the other side (instead of the biggest piece on the right). In that way it is easier to compare all the charts visually.

Also would you perhaps be so kind to place the superdelegate map to the 2nd place on the 2016 democratic primaries page? I think it is less important (my account isn't confirmed).

Thanks for your work. --Arcorto (talk) 16:49, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rubio in AZ on Republican primary discussion[edit]

Hi Ali, just wanted to alert you to a discussion happening here on the pie chart map for the Republican primaries. Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2015 is open![edit]

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.

Dear Oganesson007,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.

Iran climate box[edit]

Hi. First of all, good work on your graphic contributions on Wikipedia. I begrudgingly have to say that one part of the Iran climate map is inaccurate under Koppen's classification.(https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/01/Iran_map_of_K%C3%B6ppen_climate_classification.svg). Northern Iran, the Caspian coast, is humid subtropical (Cfa), NOT Mediterranean (Csa). I would appreciate it that portion of the map is revised or corrected. Thank you. Alaska2016 GOP primary map[edit]

this map.
For the map above, the results are being displayed for the boroughs and census areas of Alaska, when the only such information available is for the state's house districts, which are not coterminous with the former. Can you modify the map reflect the house districts? Data is not available for Alaska's boroughs and census areas because I guess Alaska likes to be a pain in the ass. Köppen maps[edit]

Hi, Ali! First of all thank you for the endless contributions to Wiki maps database. I see you are an avid map designer, and we need your help regarding climatological maps. You have created some amazing maps for the Köppen classification system. However there are some major flaws in those maps. I guess you only took the main publication of the global map, and created separate regional maps for regions and countries. Can you please share your methods and data sources so we can find a solution to make minor changes to the maps to make them more accurate? Berkserker (talk) 06:59, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ali, I agree that you do a lot of great work for Wikipedia and I appreciate that. But Berkserker is correct, there are some major flaws with your Koppen maps. I removed the California map because it was misleading--it showed a climate Cfa near Los Angeles that probably doesn't exist within a thousand miles of there. If you use an algorithm for calculating the climates it may have a bug in it. Pegminer (talk) 04:24, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Pegminer: Hello Pegminer. The thing that mentioned was true for the US states but not for countries. As you see on the main image the borders are clearly depicted and I created the Koppen climate maps of pretty much each country base on that. Here is the png image before I create the SVG file. So finally, I would say the maps that I created for US states weren't accurate but for countries, it is a whole different story. Ali Zifan 18:02, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Some countries won bronze medals such as "Israel" but when I look at these places on the 2016 Olympic medal maps, they are not coloured!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dont belittle245 (talk • contribs) 16:02, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I noticed the following mistakes :

  • Vatican City should be in red
  • Moldova has won one bronze medal anf Israel two
  • You inverted Rwanda (no medal) with silver-winning Burundi (the former is north of the later).

I must say that the svg file looks better than the png one though.

Also, talking about File:Gold medal distribution by country in 2016 Summer Olympics.svg, I wonder why you included Australia but not Italy (ahead in the medal table), the Netherlands and Hungary. Each of theses nations won eight gold medals.

Thanks for you work, --Pitthée (talk) 20:12, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Maps[edit]

Thanks for your creations of county and state results maps for Trump and Clinton. If you find the time, would you care to make one for Gary Johnson and Jill Stein as well? Thanks! MB298 (talk) 04:43, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

These are great, maps. Where did you find the underlying data?

Hi, and once again thanks for your contributions. It seems that on the file File:United States presidential election, 2016 Cartogram.png, Nevada is colored red, when in fact it voted for Clinton. Thanks once again. MB298 (talk) 05:41, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Trump also won the 2nd Congressional District in Maine, yet Maine is solid blue on the cartogram.--3family6 (talk) 19:43, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I colored the whole Maine blue since Clinton was generally the winner of that state. You may also consider this map from New York Times: [1] Ali Zifan 05:15, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't that inaccurate though? Or is this just a simple plurality map?--3family6 (talk) 05:26, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I will reconsider it. I will edit it soon, and will add a red circle that is proportional to the state's size. Ali Zifan 04:59, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign for User:The Photographer[edit]

Please excuse me spamming you, which concerns Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign. My contributions cover the architecture and culture of Brazil and Venezuela. I has basic photographic equipment: an old D300 camera and 35mm lens, and it is very expensive for me to acquire this equipment. I has recently taken several images using the technique where multiple frames are stitched together to create a high-resolution panorama. However, many times frustrated with the stitching errors that result from trying to take such photos without a proper panoramic head for his tripod. This special equipment permits the camera to be rotated around the entrance pupil of the lens, and eliminates such errors. Having a panoramic head would greatly increase the potential for The Photographer to create sharp high-resolution images for Commons. In addition, the purchase of a camera with a fisheye lens would enable 180 × 360° panoramas to be taken, which are a great way to explore a scene as though one is really there.

Please see the discussion about the Crowd-funding campaign on User talk:The Photographer#Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign and visit the Generosity Crowd-funding Campaign page to consider donating. Even a modest donation will make a difference if many people contribute. Thanks. --The Photographer 13:42, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ali, I really appreciate the work you have put into the electoral maps for this year's presidential race. However, I noticed a couple of minor issues with your map for California. As I am sure you are aware, California being the most populous state also means that the returns come in the slowest so I am confident that this is the cause of error. For one, Stanislaus County, California was colored the lightest shade red on your map (representing a plurality win for Trump of between 40%-50%), when in fact it went for Clinton 47.4%-46.7% (meaning it should be colored light blue for a plurality win for Clinton). The other issue was the shading of Orange County, California, which you did in the lightest shade of blue, indicating a plurality win for Clinton (between 40%-50%). According the results released by the New York Times, Clinton won the county 51%-43.3%, meaning it needs to be the nest shade of blue, similar to that of neighboring San Diego County. I am not criticizing your work, which I do in fact appreciate very much. Here is a link to the New York Times release I discussed to validate my claim: nytimes.com/elections/results/california. Thanks! Count Awesome (talk) 2:51, 27 November 2016 (UTC

✓ Done! Ali Zifan

On the map with the states shaded by percentage earned by the candidates, North Carolina is shaded in the 50%-60% Trump, when he only earned 49.83% of the vote. Nebraska is shaded in the 60%-70% Trump, when he only earned 58.7% of the vote. This is a great map, besides this little glitch. I don't mean to seem annoying but I am just a perfectionist. Also, do you think you would be able to recreate this image. I found it on the 2012 presidential election page, showing the swing from 2008 to 2012. Could you make it be a swing from 2012 to 2016. I would recreate it myself but I lack the software and the technical know-how, and you are quite savvy at creating images. Please consider this image I have proposed. Again, thanks and keep up the good work! Count Awesome (talk) 2:09, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

1968 Georgia Presidential Map Request[edit]

Ali, I am quite interested in the statewide maps you make for presidential elections. For pretty much all of the elections within the last 20 years, there are maps. The 1968 election is quite interesting as well as horrifying to me as segregationist third party candidate George Wallace swept through the South and won electoral votes. There is a map for his home state of Alabama, but could you make a map for neighboring Georgia. I would really appreciate it. Thanks! Count Awesome (talk) 02:51, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yamaha5 (talk) 07:28, 20 May 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yamaha5 (talk • contribs) 07:29, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yamaha5 (talk) 07:32, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ali 07:47, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yamaha5 (talk) 08:21, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mirzaei1380 (talk) 15:28, 4 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Location of Orlando, on "Cities with highest percentage" map[edit]

Hello, and thank you for your excellent work and your many valuable contributions to the Wiki-worlds. I noticed that on a map you made, "Cities with the highest percentage of LGBs," the location of the city of Orlando, Florida, seems to be inaccurate. On the map, the city seems to be on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, but the physical city is actually farther than 40 miles away from the Atlantic coast, at its closest point. I would fix it myself, but I would end up damaging your work. Perhaps the current state of the map is acceptible, and it is within your margin of error, or it's not worth the time and effort to make an adjustment—if that is the case, I apologize for raising the subject. You know, better than I, what is best for you to do. Please continue your great work. May you have good health, happiness, and fortune. Correction request[edit]

In the file World Köppen Classification (with authors) the lakes Tanganyika, Malawi, Nicaragua, and Titicaca are erroneously coloured as if they are ground, even though their outlines are clearly delineated, and Kaliningrad has a double border with Lithuania and Kosovo has a double border with Serbia. This should probably be amended. Also, I am not sure if the Netherlands should have a lake in the middle, when most maps show that part attached to the sea, and there is a weird line on the northwest coast of Croatia. The borders of Lesotho and Swaziland with South Africa are not as thick as the other land borders and Brunei is completely discoloured. The area around the coast of south Senegal, The Gambia, and Guinea-Bissau and the area around the coast of Cameroon look like they need some polishing. Impressive work, otherwise. I apologise if I sound too nitpicky or critical. AstroVulpes (talk) 14:47, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Afsharid Map[edit]

Hello, I just saw your map about the Afsharids. What do you think about adding cities to the map and afterwards using it for the Wikipedia page of the Afsharids? The current map doesn't make much sense to me as Nader Shah conquered Delhi and is literally even known for it. Best regards Xerxes931

Mirzaei1380 (talk) 19:33, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I was wondering why you listed the red countries as sending 1-3 atheletes, when as far as I can tell, the minimum number of athletes that a country has sent is 2? Shouldn't red be 2-3 athletes then, since none of the red countries sent 1 athlete? --JasonMacker (talk) 15:35, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iran provincial maps[edit]

I wanted to express my thanks and appreciation for the outstanding updates to the provincial locator maps of Iran that have appeared recently on pages I have been working on. Your contributions have helped immensely in creating a consistent group of images that illustrate the positions of counties within provinces. Previously, there was an uneven mix of map styles that were additionally out-of-date and difficult to use. Keep up the excellent work! Brightkingdom (talk) 14:16, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message @Brightkingdom. I extracted the raw data directly from the Statistical Center of Iran, and these current maps that we have right now are by far the most accurate Iranian County maps on the web. Unlike previous maps and most maps on the internet, they aren’t drawn by rough estimates. As you can see, I also added the location of each county’s capital/seat. If it’s possible for you later in the future, can you also please add these maps on some of those capital cities’ articles? Thank you. Og007 22:43, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ali, you are the bests of the bests. I came across and it’s truly fascinating. May I ask please if you design one for the Ghurid dynasty and Ghaznavids in thier greater extent? I think that’d be a great contribution in Wikipedia and History of Both Iran and Afghanistan.
