Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Sure! If you analyze the image it's only made of colored strokes. Not that difficult to do. That's why it's simple. Yeah, it's! It doesn't matter if the editor create the logo or uplod from somewhere it's the same logo anyway. To analyze logos we must think if their fonts are freely available or derivative work from some PF fonts and the shapes if they are easy to draw. Infraestructuras logo is way 2 simple. EUMETSAT[edit]

It wouldn't surprise if EUMETSAT copyright their images. I originaly thought I could it, because I saw this file. And I also read this page on publishing information. For the moment, I'll put a note on Wikipedia to not use the file on the Main Page (they are considering it). File:GFS metmap Xynthia.gif[edit]

Hi,

The image File:GFS metmap Xynthia.gif is a good example for Xynthia article but the resolution is very poor. Uploading a GIF image into Wikipedia gives often a bad result. I transformed it into a PNG image and reloaded it into File:GFS metmap Xynthia.png which is much better. Because two identical images cannot remains in Commons, I have put a {{Duplicate}} on your image and it should be deleted soon by an administrator. I hope you are not upset by this, I just wanted to let you know so in the future you transform any GIF image into a PNG before uploding it. Pierre cb (talk) 04:35, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. Sí, avisé a Coentor y él se encargó. Ostegesis, que anteriormente se llamaba EQUOeditor es, por lo que yo lo traté en su momento, una CPP bastante centrada en la promoción de su partido político (en su momento analicé su comportamiento aquí. Recuerdo haber "tratado" con él en es:EQUO, es:EQUO Madrid, es:Mònica Oltra e es:Iniciativa el Poble Valencià (tendrás que hacer bastante scroll, llevo ya bastante tiempo fuera :-( ) y, por lo que veo, sigue en el mismo plan, habiendo añadido su plan proselitista a es:Els Verds-Esquerra Ecologista del País Valencià o es:IniciativaVerds. También me sorprende la existencia de este artículo, cuando otros insignificantes candidatos de EQUO, como es:Pilar Calvo fueron borrados. The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.

En principio no sé si sería más apropiado en lugar de categorizar cada una de las caricaturas en dicha categoría, el colgar las respectivas categorías tipo "Nombre propio de político (caricatures)", por ejemplo "Category:Francisco Romero Robledo (caricatures)" dentro de "Category:Political cartoons of Spain", para así tenerlo más organizado. Después quedarían algunas fuera, por supuesto, en "la raíz". Al fin y al cabo diría que todas las caricaturas de un político español encajan dentro de "cartoon" de España. Saludos cordiales. Si te instalas esto (Help:VisualFileChange.js), aparecerá en el menú izquierdo una opción que se llama 'Perform batch task'. Esa opción permite nominar masivamente de modo sencillo imágenes de una categoría o subidas por un usuario.

Wiki Loves Monuments Spain 2016 is coming!

Dear Montgomery,

As every year, Wiki Loves Monuments in Spain, an international photographic contest about cultural heritage in the Spanish territory, will start on next September 1st. On behalf of the Wikipedia community and Wikimedia España (WM-ES), and as a participant in former editions of the event, or in other photographic contests organized by WM-ES, we'd like to encourage you to participate in the 2016 edition. We do know that you've been keen on contributing your work to the free knowledge in the past and therefore believe that you'll be glad to help us again.

We want to inform you about a substantial change in the rules of the contest: this year only images of monuments or municipalities without previous photograph in Wikimedia Commons are accepted. To facilitate hunting monuments and municipalities without a free image, we have prepared a set of specific lists, which can be checked in the contest websites: wikilov.es/monuments or wikilm.es

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
To perform file name swaps.
When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. I found your name on Special:ListUsers/image-reviewer, and I am looking for someone to do a license review as described at Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#AI_artwork_-_license_review_requested. The situation is that I want to upload some AI-generated artwork where copyright is not typical. Also I think this will be a recurring issue for Commons review in the future, and I wanted to get any kind of comment on this from people who do license review. I am messaging you because I I browsed your contribution history and saw that you recently participated in copyright review. I messaged two other people in the same way for this issue.

Aviso de sabotaje[edit]

Hola, muy buenas. Actualmente estoy bloqueado en Wikipedia, considero que de forma totalmente injusta puesto que no incurrí en ninguna conducta prohibida ni dañina. En cualquier caso, ya intentaré defender mis derechos cuando toque, aunque no sé cómo ni cuándo. No pretendía comentar nada al margen de lo ya comentado, porque me temo que no tengo nada más que decir a día de hoy. Pero antes de desaparecer, me gustaría hacer un llamamiento ante algunas ediciones abusivas que he visto en algunos artículos de temática política y que podrían calificarse de sabotaje. Me refiero a las realizadas por el usuario Baprow, que lleva mucho tiempo imponiendo sus cuestionables métodos en forma y fondo. Si solo fuera lo primero, como el uso de colores arbitrarios en líneas temporales o empleo de abreviaturas de apellidos cuando no son necesarias en absoluto, ni siquiera me habría molestado en escribir este mensaje, pero he visto que en sus últimas ediciones ha llevado a cabo un verdadero boicot que suprime información útil y cierta. Hago referencia a artículos como Alcalde de Madrid, donde ha suprimido a Manuel Cobo como alcalde en diciembre de 2011 en la linea temporal, cuando fue alcalde en funciones a todos los efectos al igual que cada uno de los alcaldes reelegidos recientemente entre las elecciones y la constitución de sus ayuntamientos (o como Rajoy, Sánchez y Hormaechea fueron presidentes durante meses, o ahora lo ha sido De la Concha en las Islas Baleares y antes lo fueron Rollán en Madrid o Zarrías en Andalucía; de hecho, así aparecen en sus artículos y en las respectivas tablas en los artículos y anexos de presidentes). Ha ocurrido lo mismo en el Anexo:Alcaldes de Badalona con Aïda Llauradó. Solo quería comentar esto para ver si se puede poner orden y revertir ediciones totalmente inoportunas y arbitrarias, por el único bien del rigor en Wikipedia, y que hasta ahora se han mantenido porque nadie parece haberse dado cuenta.
