Renaming files

Shouldn't you have done this before making the move?

I do not support the name change. The name you changed was meant to preserve consistency throughout a large number of files, as well as to make it as short as possible. Adding a space inbetween the words does not make it any more clearer, just longer, since you are not changing anything else, but breaking consistency along the way and disrupting the original name's intended purpose. Logo of the Communist Party (Switzerland)

Hello, I would like to understand why do you think that the logo of the Communist Party (Switzerland) (File:Partito Comunista (Svizzera).tif) meets the criteria for speedy deletion. I represent the Communist Party (Switzerland) and I would like to know how to publish our logo on Commons with the following licences:

This logo image consists only of simple geometric shapes or text. It does not meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection, and is therefore in the public domain. Although it is free of copyright restrictions, this image may still be subject to other restrictions. See WP:PD § Fonts and typefaces or Template talk:PD-textlogo for more information.

@大诺史: Thank you for your reply. The problem is that I don't want to publish that logo under the CC-BY-SA license. How can I change the license back as it was before? I have seen that many Swiss parties publish their logo under that license (example: File:SVP_UDC.svg). Please re-acquaint yourself with the criteria for renaming. That one has a preference for something different, or that others are different, are not criteria. Carmarthenshire Hundreds.svg and Norfolk Hundreds.svg

I am puzzled by your observations on File:Carmarthenshire Hundreds.svg and File:Norfolk Hundreds.svg. Both were drawn on Inkscape (importing a Geospatial PDF, then amending it as an SVG as to colours, object labels etc. I have not been fiddling with any deep code, nor do I know the significance of the lines of code you refer to. They display perfectly both as SVGs in Inkscape and on Commons, so there does not appear to be any fault in the coding. Hogweard (talk) 22:29, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

@Hogweard: I used a script to auto detect the error. So it seems like the errors I’ve mentioned is somehow “not accepted” by the server. @大诺史: First there is not rule about it, so there are different opinions on this. When I was "Wikimedia-young" I validated several SVGs on Wikimedia, just to validate them. From discussions with SVG-experts like Glrx or Sarang I learned the uselessness of validating/scrubbing files without visual change.

I personally prefer to use id= instead of data-name=, since it is valid, but id= is an unique identifier that can be computationally-refereed to e.g.<use or filters or clipPath, therefore I do understand that some think different. id= must not contain spaces and must not start with a number. Optimizers change id='s to reduce file-size (depending on there configuration). Since some prefer id and other prefer data-name, it should be in my opinion the decision of the main author (e.g. original uploader). I assume that some Editors (Software) might display the data-name and that's the reason why they introduce such invalid attribute, and that also the reason why changeing to id is degrading informations in some Editors.

aria-label, could theoretical be used for blindness people and could be also be used to reproduce this character/word. If it is a single special character, I would remove it is my own picture, but I would keep it if it is not my own picture. I prefer to put the original text e.g. 1000px to the right, then you easyly can recreate a text with a uniform font.

In my opinion the only serious thing was the removement of the text in File:JESC 2019 Map (with small Australia).svg. (The legend with text is below the visual pagesize, therefore you only see it in editors and helps you editing.)

But my point was that source-code-edits are undesired. There is as far as i know (afaik) no rule for that in commons, but in the german Wikipedia source-code-edits are not allowed:

Important: An edit should always lead to at least an externally visible or effective change ; In addition to a substantive change, for example, a typo correction, a PDfix or a typographic refinement, provided that it has no taste or cosmetic background. According to User:Glrx: ivalid XML should be fixed, but invalid SVG generally not. Afaik most SVGs which are invalid XML won't render at all.

The attribute aria-label is appropriate markup for the g element. Commons:Overwriting existing files is an official guideline that permits minor improvements to files, but it does not permit controversial changes. In general, I would consider removing aria-label a controversial change. An editor put the attribute there, and the editor probably meant to include it.

Removing the attribute does remove a W3C validation error, so it can be viewed as an improvement. I do not see that as a reason to modify the file. The "error" is harmless because the attribute is syntactically correct and harmless in most agents. If the W3C validator were using SVG 2.0 validation rules, it would not be flagged as an error.

In other words, I think the error is not in the SVG file but rather in the validation. The validation should be permissive of well known attributes such as aria-label.

In this particular instance, the aria-label appears to be machine generated. When some software converts a text element to curves, it replaces the text element with a g element. The original string (.textContent) is placed in an aria-label attribute, and each character is drawn as a separate child path element. Keeping the aria-label around makes it easy to recover the string. (Inkscape leaves other hints around. The font is Markazi Text at 135px and centered. It is possible to reconstruct much of the original text element.)

Moving the value to the id attribute would be inappropriate. In the general case, aria-label does not conform to the required syntax of an id (which is ncname, a no-colon alphabetic name). Also, id attributes are uninterpreted names; an aria-label is meant to be interpreted.

Yes, files that have validation errors and warnings are annoying, but there is little reason to go around fixing those problems right now. Especially if the alleged "error" is not an error at all. That some programs claims something is wrong does not mean that it is actually wrong.

It is a {{TracedSVG}}, therefore I would not remove the template also the tracing is done in a good quality. @N509FZ: Hi, I would say that the airport code/aircraft reg is ambiguous. I tried to include the aircraft reg in most of the renamed files (as long as it is seen or categorised). As for the airport code, the 3 letter code assigned to the airport may not be known by all? I would like to listen to your comments on this. As for the second issue, I’ve also tried to include the year into the file names if there are numerous files depicting the same thing (e.g. a specific aircraft landing).

I believe that a file name Singapore Airlines A350-941 (9V-SMA) taxiing at Beijing Capital International Airport is more descriptive as compared to 9V-SMA@PEK (numberstring)

If you do not want any more files to be renamed, do let me know and I’ll stop. Help regarding copyvio warning template

Hello there. I saw your message on User talk:Sri5044 about possible copyright violation. I found the source image and I have taken care of it. Can you please issue a warning to the uploader about properly giving sources and not tagging images as their own work in future? An opinion

In my opinion, the graphics lab isn't suitable for mass posting every svg you can find with a validation error. I don't think it's particularly fair to other users, whose requests you are drowning out by monopolising the page. If you want to fix validation errors that's great, and if you have some tricky ones you can't understand, fine - but I honestly feel the sheer volume of requests you are posting is just too much. As I say, it's an opinion, that's all - please don't take it as a personal criticism, just my view of what is fair, and how the lab should be used. Cheers. -- Begoon 15:41, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

Yeah - I don't want to come across as critical, but if you're only talking about validation errors you could usually just fix them as quickly as you could post a request. It's generally just a matter of looking at the w3c page, seeing what errors it gives you, with line and column numbers, and editing the text as indicated. Obviously you always have to check you haven't had a visual impact on the image, but usually it's straightforward.

Folks usually come to the lab to ask for particular files to be converted or particular visual issues to be addressed, and that's what the graphists there enjoy doing. When someone starts going through whole categories and posting boatloads of files with minor technical issues but visually ok, it can be rather off-putting, and either you get upset because nobody does them or everyone else gets upset because the page becomes overloaded and they're too polite to say: "Hey, slow down, man." I'm probably less reserved than most, so that's why I'm bringing it up. I guess what I'm saying is please be selective, and try to bring files that really need visual work rather than just technical "fixes". As I say, asking about tricky validation errors is cool, but mostly people aren't going to be that interested in minor tech fixes or code reduction for the sake of it.

midPointStop ia an adobe Illustrator bit of markup that it uses internally to manage gradients, but is ignored otherwise. It's not part of the Svg language specification. The reason that file contains them is that it incorporates two 'copies' of BMW.svg (one for each 'wheel'), which is one of the files I "cleaned" for you yesterday. When I did that I couldn't find any significant way the midPointStop tags were affecting the image, either in Illustrator or otherwise, by testing, so I just removed them. It should therefore be safe to do that to this file too. To remove them you just remove every tag that looks like:

Therefore I made just those removals and no other changes and uploaded a new version for you. There were 118 of these tags, which is what you'd expect because there were 59 in BMW.svg before I edited it, and there are 2 "wheels" in this file. Just remember that when making removals like this it's critical that you don't affect the file's visual rendering, so you need to check, check, check... If you're not sure what a tag is/does - google it - if you don't understand the results of that then ask. I run across esoteric tag names and language quirks I've never seen before all the time, so googling (and asking) is a habit. -- Begoon 07:01, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

out of policy renames

Hi 大诺史, you did two incorrect renames:

File:Plane crash into Hudson River.jpg is not a meaningless or ambiguous name
File:Plane crash into Hudson River (crop).jpg is nt a valid harmonize the names of a set of images

Looking at your logs you seem to have missed the core principle of the renaming policy "In general, Commons aims to provide stable filenames as there might be external file clients and file moving involves significant human and computing resources. Taking A-1111 as an example, I will move it to a more descriptive name by adding the airline and aircraft type. Purpose of doing so is to make it clearer as A-1111 may be used by 2 or more airlines or may refer to 2 different aircraft types (reused reg). Your idea

...at User_talk:Perhelion#User_script for differing between W3C error counts: I do not think that it will be useful; you know, we deny the necessity to "repair" invalidity! Error count and W3C-invalidity is just an information and a categorizing criterion but not a maintenance request or a demand to validate something. If a file is new, or gets a new version, it should be W3C-valid if possible - but to upload a new version of an invalid file only for validation will not be useful. BTW I did a lot to sort files in a descending order by error count, so that files with most W3C errors are always the first ones within their "invalid..." category. All categorizing as you suggested is not done by the script but by the template - so it's not Perhelion but me who could do it. I thought it over, and we can discuss it with others, but I am sceptical of any advantage -- sarang♥사랑 07:16, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

marking Files as DR or as CopyVio?

To be honest I'm not an expert in TOO, but in my opinion controversial cases should be taged as DR not as copyvio, expecially if they are on commons since years. Maybe some of them could just be trimmed to meet TOO.

photos

Hi, My father died in 2017, and he was a photographer for about 25 years. I have been scanning and uploading photos from the 20th century to commons. You recently nominated a few of them for deletion citing BLP as a reason - The images are from 1970 or so. I'm aiming to have this category be as complete as possible: [2] . The images were taken in the United Kingdom around 1970. My father was a commercial professional photographer at the time, and he owned the images. I'm happy to fill in as many details as I can? I don't know her name even. The two of them (this woman and my father) were dating for a time, I know that. It's obvious when looking at the photos that she wanted to be photographed but while she is in many of his photos, I have no written anything from her, and have no way to know if she is alive or not. To be honest, I don’t know. Perhaps you could send an email to COM:OTRS claiming what you said above and send in a picture of you and your father (if you’re comfortable)? An advantage of writing in is that an OTRS ticket will be generated and placed on the file’s information so that editors will not nominate the file for the same reason as I did. In addition, your father passed away recently, so his works are still under copyright protection for at least the next 50 years (taking the shortest time possible as I don’t know which country you’re from). Description of Uploads

More a request, than a complaint:
I saw Commons:Administrators/Requests/大诺史 and therfore checked Special:ListFiles/大诺史
I noticed your upload-description, is not telling/meaningfull as it could be (Yes I know I'm also often too lasy, but it really helps others to not check every edit in every detail and saves much more time, than the lasyness of not writing a good upload-description)

several times you used the upload-description: "remove raster" in all case I checked you removed a raster image in metadata (which is there for copyright-reasons, that you know who added when what, so it adds sometimes several pictures to know the contribution of each author), but "remove raster" could also mean:

removing <inkscape:grid to align elements
removing the grid of a checked paper (german: kariert)
removing a hidden raster-image (e.g. used for tracing)
replacing a rasterimage with vector-data

It is true that |link= does not agree with CC-BY, see Commons:Village_pump/Copyright/Archive/2017/12#|link=_does_not_agree_with_CC-BY, but you could use mw:Extension:ImageMap for you userpage.

It is explained on de:Hilfe:Bilder#Von_der_Dateibeschreibungsseite_abweichendes_Linkziel and on meta:Help:Images_and_other_uploaded_files, but afaik(as far as i know) not on commons. @A.Savin: maybe we should add this information to mw:Help:Images#Syntax and to Commons. I have also seen an admin "adding" |link= to a CC-BY-SA image.

Tombstones

As to whether tombstones are considered art works: If you mean legally, I don't know. They are under art in our category structure (because they are under monuments and memorials, which are under art), but that doesn't mean they're art for purposes of determining whether images violate FOP restrictions. The simplest explanation is that he could be at a different computer (work vs home). I don't mean to imply that he works for this company, but let's AGF that this is his own picture, and it's on his home computer, which he used to upload to Facebook. Now he's at work and is killing time for whatever reason and decides to upload this to Commons. He doesn't have access to the file at the time, so he goes to his FB page, downloads the photo, and re-uploads it. I'm not saying this is what happened, but it is a plausible scenario. 大诺史, chances are that the video has been deleted from YouTube. That happens most of the time and there is nothing Commons can do about what happens on external websites. That being said, the image was imported from YouTube by a trusted user, User:Explicit, and I assumed they verified that the file was available there under the stated license on that date prior to importing here. Thus, if this is the case, the license cannot be revoked even thou the source link is broken or the license has changed, the same way a license cannot be revoked if any Flickr file change their license in the site after they have been verified here on Commons. @大诺史: Generally prefer DR. The uploader (Explicit) is an admin/license reviewer so it's best to let the uploader handle it in this particular case. If any other (reasonably trusted) user can confirm it was available under a CC license at the time, Explicit could review it. Of course, we have to take into consideration why the YouTube account was terminated. Altınordu Municipality picture

Dear 大诺史,

You have notified me of a missing source of one picture on the page of the city Ordu in Turkey. Since I'm fairly new on changing things on Wikipedia and don't know my ways around with Wikimedia Commons, I'm wondering what was wrong? The picture prior to my change was a wrong picture of the governmental body, actually with a false layover of the LGBT movement. I corrected this, by entering the correct logo, which was downloaded from the website of the Altınordu Municipality. What is wrong with it?

I do not understand why this picture gets claims of missing sources, whilst falsely made pictures have been on the page for years without any proper review. So false doesn't matter, even with false sources?

As for the photos linkages to the Authority's website, as of the moment, it is not uploaded there as we only post the image of our current General Manager, which is General Manager Jaime Medina. All other information regarding the past General Managers were uploaded in our Wikipedia page for reference to our stakeholders who wish to know more about us and the previous administrations of the agency.

Thus, we have used Wikipedia here as the medium where we can actually post all these historic materials and archived documents for we believe in Wikipedia as a "go-to" site when people wish to search or learn something, aside from the social media accounts and main site.

In line with this, kindly allow these photos uploaded by Jum Bae Bi (my username) and please do not delete them as it is not just for the archiving and record-keeping of the Authority's data but more than anything else, it is for our stakeholders' awareness and knowledge.

Also, I added a note on the said pictures stating that those pictures were only the scanned copy of the actual printed version of it.

Hi! Saw that you marked this file as a possible copyright violation, but I think it should fall under fair use - it's a screenshot of software (that I made), and the images of the magazine/newspaper front pages in the screenshot are low resolution. As per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Fair_use_newspaper_covers and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Software_screenshots#Screenshots_of_proprietary_software, it seems to me that the image fits pretty comfortably under the commonly accepted fair use guidelines? I think it might be more intelligent to categorize all filetpye:SVG with {{PD-textlogo}} also in Category:SVG text logos, by just editing the template?

I'm not an expert but I would ask @Sarang: for help if you want to recategorize files by template and filetype.

The categories are very crowded, some diffusion might help for a better overview. Everything will by possible by just updating the template:{{PD-textlogo}} if somebody creates a good concept what to do. IMHO some investigation of the current situation is needed. Hi @大诺史: we need a strategy: currently we have 116K transclusions of {{PD-textlogo}}, but many files don't use it and instead a wrong PD is used, e.g. .NET Core Logo.svg uses {{Cc-by-4.0}} - it needs correction! Whatever we do, a great lot of manual work becomes necessary.

Not any problem to expand PD-textlogo that it categorises SVG to SVG text logos but this category contains now 9700 files, which are "hard" categorized; this has to be removed afterwards (VFC?). An additional parameter of PD-textlogo can categorize to Simple SVG text logos which contains now 2350 hard-categorized files. The removal of that categoriation is very easy, but the large amount makes it laborious. Will you do it??

The strategy can be:

checking and repairing wrong PD-templates (this part can begin immediately)
expanding the PD-textlogo (I can do it swiftly) 0 Done (see docu) -- sarang♥사랑
all now in Simple SVG text logos get the "simple" parameter (e.g. VFC)
removal all hard-cats in both categories (e.g. VFC)

From the 2352 items in Simple SVG text logos I changed extlogo}} to extlogo|simple}} for the first 300. When you VFC the others, you can see where the change is not performed. The first 300 are o.k., all other not-performed ones you must edit manually. After all 2352 are changed (not earlier!), you can remove the hard category with another VFC. At en.wiki if you guys did this without a bot flag people would scream blue murder every time you deluged their watchlists with these changes. Using {{PD-textlogo}} does nothing other than until now when not SVG. For SVG files, it will add SVG text logos, only when the par1 "simple" is added it will diffuse to Simple SVG text logos: so all files in hard-coded Simple SVG text logos will also categorize to SVG text logos, until "simple" is added. And then the hard-coded category should be removed (it does not really disturb, but such double categorizing, hard and by template, should not occur). -- sarang♥사랑 15:38, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

Now you have successfully completed all work with the "Simples"; the more than 100.000 SVG text logos are another case. To remove the (now redundant or obsolete) hard-coded category is not urgent (like the wrong cat at "Simples"), and I will look for a bot - which is the only adequate tool for that. Do not use VFC for such a mass edit! Thank you.

When you want to swap some (only some!) files from SVG text logos to Simple SVG text logos, of course you may do that, and VFC can ease that work. There are some other errors, esp. wrong licenses - they are more difficult to find, at the moment I have no idea how to locate them. -- sarang♥사랑 06:03, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Not so perfect work

You removed (all?) hard-categorized SVG text logos, but you did not first check that they use the correct template:PD-textlogo. Many uploaders use very complicated licenses, where PD-shape, PD-ineligible or others like PD-textlogo would be much more appropriate for trivial drawings.
As an example, Arduino Logo hi.svg uses {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}}. Now it is not any more a textlogo! More bad: on August 10 you added image generation but without any topic. The script suggests often, but not always the correct topic, which in this case would have been "tl". The topic is a very essential parameter for Image generation, it is displayed with the description and it is used for proper subcategorizing. -- sarang♥사랑 12:27, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

I own the copyright to the book and only wish to give my father credit for the original work he did. I am listed on the copyright and the Library of Congress ISBN as Editor. Out of scope F10

Hi. If you like you don't have to DR out of scope images, you can take them as SD|F10. There is also a useful addon to the Ajax gadget - you will need to add some code to your common.js file. I have never tried using mw.loader.load to load a window.AjaxDeleteExtraButtons section. I used the instructions at Help:QuickDelete. If you can't get it to work by copy/paste, please ask at MediaWiki talk:Gadget-AjaxQuickDelete.js. German Flag

Hi 大诺史, I am new here and I did not know that one can use a picture uploaded from someone else in a post. I had to change a flag in the page Distribuição do tipo sanguíneo por país yesterday because it was the Belgium flag instead of the Germany one. A tip - if you see Special instructions FBMD01000a890d0000a8620000b0150100043001004e470100ba2a02006d3d0300cd4b0300c16503003b7d03004874050 in the exif its an indication that the image came from FB and you can nom for speedy. deletion of File: The Labors of Hercules... and File: Michael E. Arth Introspective...

I'm Michael E. Arth, the author of both of these books. I put up low Rez thumbnails images of my book covers (and artwork) to which I own the copyrights. Why are you deleting it when other people routinely put up book cover thumbnails with the justification they do not harm the copyright holder? Speedy Deletion?

Hi, I wonder why you put Speedy Deletion on my files: File:Anke Drescher (2019).jpg and File:Maite Maiora Elizondo (2019).jpg

As a former runner, a huge fan and so one I was at the UTMB 2019 and I took photos from Pau, Courtney, Kerstin, Maite, and Anke and more. You will never find them in any social media format, because I, the photographer, had not posted them in such formats. I uploaded the photos last few days to Commons and want to go on. This suggests that the file was uploaded to Facebook before the commons upload. If this is your own work, I would suggest that you send in the permission to OTRS for verification. nominating because used on FB

Thanks for your work on checking that images are compatable with policies. I know it's no fun job :) I came across this nomination, and was curious if you could be persuaded to adapt your reasoning-message a bit. With competitions like Wiki Loves Monuments, we expect a lot of new contributors that don't know much about our policies, and may indeed make mistakes (although in my experience the vast majority has good intentions). If you see an image like this, it would be helpful if you could add a bit more instructions in your message on how to address the issue (working from the assumption that someone is indeed the true author). Jeff G.'s response at the help desk was a good suggestion, and I don't see why we would wait until people ask about it :). The abbreviations also look a bit.. scary. With a little bit of luck, such constructive approach will convince newcomers every now and then to stick around and contribute more.

How about, for example, adding something along the lines of "For example, add 'Licensed cc-by-sa-4.0' to the Facebook photo page/post and link it from the photo description page in the source field" to the message? That gives the contributor a good handle to quickly address the issue if they indeed own the FB page/post. If you then link the post/page where you found the picture, that would be even better (I was unable to find it myself). Effeietsanders (talk) 17:35, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

@Masumrezarock100: The tag was not for taking a picture at a public place. I tagged it as no permission as it came for WhatsApp so the photographer's permission is needed, + the file doesn't have metadata to confirm anything. What license review?

Hi. I see you are using on a permanent basis F4 ("Failed license review") to tag for deletion images that haven't been submitted to a license review process. When the uploader claims {{Own}} but you find the image published before somewhere-else-in-the-internet, people tend to use "F1" and/or a link to the image. Sometimes, when the copyvio is not that evident (it's based on a "FBMD-metadata-thing", but the reverse search is not successful), they start a deletion request. @Strakhov: Oh ok, but isn't it still a license review? My rationale is that I'm reviewing the license to see if it is stated at the source/or anywhere I find the file at (apparent own work). To me, it isn't, as said above. Wrt the second question, it's not, since the uploaders on Facebook still retain their rights to publish their images with other licenses. If you publish a selfie on facebook you still have the right to publish it with a CC license somewhere else. Deletion of DEROUET_marie file

Hi,

You marked most (but not all) file by DEROUET_marie saying they « Came via Facebook » but could you give the actual URL where it come from on Facebook? Because, if it's published by the same person on the two websites, then there is no problem ; and if not, then the other photo should probably be deleted too.

@VIGNERON: The files I've tagged as copyvio have a "FB metadata", the problem with such thing is that there is no way to determine if that is own work, + uploader's remaining file has metadata so why wasn't the original uploaded instead? I admit that the phrasing of the tag might not be good, as such, I have recently changed the phrasing to "Came via Facebook; their Terms of Use are incompatible with publishing here. Since the photo is deleted, I can't check the metadata (no that I know of anyway) but that's strange, I don't see anything in the last photo (which seems to be all part of the same serie). I this kind of case, I would tend to assume good faith. At the very least, I think we should do a proper deletion request and not a speedy deletion. Any objection for me to restore the photo and put them on deletion? Again ping Ellin Beltz what do you think?

Guild of One-Name Studies page

Yesterday I spent considerable time trying to work out how to change the logo for the organisation and to upload a book cover bearing the same name as my wikipedia account. I got up this morning and see that you had flagged the images as breaches.

This was not a breach. I am a Trustee for the Charity and was asked by the Chairman to change the logo and update the page. That is what I started to do. Please upload the image you removed.

Secondly the other image you removed was a book title that I wrote for the Guild, it clearly showed my name. I therefore obviously had the right to use the image. Again please replace the image.

The Charity Commission is an England and Wales organisation where you can check the validity of a charity. If you search by either my surname or the Guild's name you will see that I am a Trustee of the Guild and acted within the copyright rules. I would have appreciated a note first to check before you removed the images and therefore wasted my time.

I assume that my photo looks like a downsized, low-quality copy of the original game poster. So I agree that it violates copyrights. But I also found a photo that shows game empty boxes published on Wikimedia Commons. The loading of Visual File Changer from your .js was deprecated many years ago. mw.loader.load( 'ext.gadget.VisualFileChange' ); needs to be removed. You can reactivate VFC in your preferences. Doubts on comment/banning image

I have a few doubts concerning the fair use. I tried following the guidelines stated in the "Non-FreeContent" section (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Non-free_content#Meeting_the_no_free_equivalent_criterion) and I mainly took heed to several particular elements:

"Another consideration for "no free equivalent" are "freer" versions of non-free media, typically which include derivative works. For example, a photograph of a copyrighted 3D work of art will also carry the copyright of the photographer in addition to the copyright of the artist that created the work. We would use a photograph where the photographer has licensed their photograph under a free license, retaining the copyright of the derivative work, instead of a photograph that has non-free licenses for both the photograph and work of art. "

"Very often, such as for most non-free content emanating from the news and entertainment industries, meeting this criterion is not in question. "

"where only by including such non-free content, can the reader identify an object, style, or behavior, that is a subject of discussion in the article."

I also paid special attention to sourcing, when uploading the image, in order to meet the criteria "While there is no specific requirement in the non-free content policy to identify the source from which a non-free file was obtained, editors are strongly encouraged to make note of the source on the media's description page; many of the non-free rationale templates already include a field for this information. This can aid in the cases of disputed media files, or evaluating the non-free or free nature of the image. Lacking a source is not grounds for media removal, but if the nature of the media file is disputed, the lack of a source may prevent the file from being retained. Non-free media must be from a published source; the unpublished non-free media is forbidden. Identification of the source will aid in validating the previous publication of the material.

The source information should be sufficiently complete to allow any editor to validate that material. While completeness is not required, editors are encouraged to provide as much source information as they can. Some ways to source media files include: (...) Images from the Internet

   Identifying the URL of the image itself or web page hosting the image, and the image's copyright owner (not necessarily the same as the website's)."

I also found that the image I was trying to post is the same as "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Beowolfposter.jpg" but I did not know how to link it.

The reason for needing such image is that in a brief 15-year span, several productions containing the word "Beowulf" have appeared, they are clearly distinct versions and generally identified through the movie poster. @Hrothgar82: the mistake you made is that you uploaded it here (Wikimedia Commons / https://commons.wikimedia.org ) using the guidelines of the English Wikipedia and non-free files are not allowed here. To be honest, I really don't get it when you say that other users are annoying when you're the one making a fuss about the auto-patrolled right. Furthermore, it doesn't even change anything when you edit with the auto-patrolled right. Just that patrollers do not have to patrol your edits knowing that they are good and as Masumrezarock100 mentioned, it is a waste of space in the patrol log. You said "You are like my supervisor, but a supervisor won't take my work away from me." but please think about this, Will a supervisor prefer a worker who does the same amount of work in 30 minutes or someone who takes a whole 30 days to finish the same thing? It takes one to see one, if you think others are annoying, you're most probably annoying too. So far, you've annoyed a total of 6 (more/less, idk.) people, namely, me, Jmabel, Alexis Jazz, Zhuyifei1999, Majora and most probably, Roy17. How? They tried to help you by asked you questions so that they can understand the situation better, but instead of answering them, you misinterpret or don't give a damn about them. The only thing that changes is that your edits will not clog up the RTRC and it is seriously very difficult to sift out bad edits that are squeezed in between your good edits (~1.1k/day). Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
To perform file name swaps.
When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. regarding my user account for speedy deletion

Hi, I wish to seek your assistant in regards to this matter, as I may not be familiar with wikipedia after a long period of not using my account almost 10 yers back. My main objectives is to place an image which is required for adding myself as a member of several community. And from my understanding during the old method was all personal images and other related items was to be uploaded and placed within my user profile. Perhaps this may change. I wish that you can assist me on just these few basic items as to where about i should placed these respective items so that i can use them on my other activities on Wikipedia as well as the rest of the other Communities.

why would I want any self promo when I've got all my self-promoting on the entire internet. Just try google info about me? And incase you dont realize, I've been a member since 2009. But anyhow, it's up to you what you're doing on these wikipedia. 'I guess if you've got nothing bout yourself to inform others who you are & using it with the intention to share about your expertise to help improve wiki, I too would consider it asself-promoting'. And if I needed to self-promote, I would just go ahead to create a page about myself rather than using the User page which is just a profile page. Afterall, my picture on the article at IndustryWired has already been approved and readily available to be used. Go check what am I contributing on Wiki, at wikitech & Phabricator, instead of being a virtual police picking on updated of profiles of person that has contributed so much to the world out there, trying to improve on Wikipedia. You may go ahead to do what you want. 是嗎？我不知道是不是我英文不好，我看到你在RFP是這麼說，所以我認為你表達的意思是：你在12月27日985筆編輯造成巡查問題。既然你意思是如此，我當然會看成你推翻了Alexis Jazz對Autopatrol所解釋的那樣，我才會更加質疑Autopatrol。由此可知，你用中文解釋「autopatoller-自动巡查/巡查豁免权；管理员会把这个权限给可信用户」是不會改變我對Autopatrol的質疑，因為這不是單單只有語言上問題，這就是為什麼社群需要我找中文的人。
Masumrezarock100剛才在RFP也表明了，你看看他在這說的話。如果不是我英文不好，那麼我會將他意思看成是：這是你的問題，沒有人想理會你是要離開還是要留下。其實我明白他要我相信Alexis Jazz，不用擔心會再發生11月29日那件事，若是我不能忘記，一直擔心只會不利於我在C区的生存（也就是他說「事情只會愈來愈糟，最後會沒人幫我」）。

以上二點，我知道你們的意思，決定權在於我，所以沒有人是要我離開Wikimedia Commons（也就是你說「C区」）。但是我知道你們有一個前提條件，就是要我不要再追著這件事不放，以免浪費你們的時間，進而造成阻礙到你們為C区貢獻。其實我也不想妨礙到你們，因為我會追這件事的原因是：

Alexis Jazz搶我的工作，既然11月29日那件事發生，那麼他就會再搶第二次、第三次。如今我有Autopatrol，可是他已經搶了，所以我相信Autopatrol不但不能解決問題，反而問題是在於他開了先例。
Alexis Jazz搶我的工作，但是Commons:Patrol並沒有要他搶別人的工作。他的解釋是說「巡查」，但巡查是用眼睛去看，當發現到不當的編輯（包括破壞），視情況去處置。問題是，他這樣一搶，等於在告訴我編輯是不當的、是破壞的；然而我對巡查的認識是，只要頁面沒有遭受破壞以及上傳的圖片沒有問題，那麼就不能因為大量編輯造成巡查問題而搶我工作。

以上二個原因都來自於Alexis Jazz搶我的工作，他做出這種事就等於是告訴我「我的編輯是不可信賴」，而且他也承認是巡查，那麼這與你們大家所說「可信」是有抵觸、是有矛盾，當然這不是我一開始拒受Autopatrol的原因。現在只要將「Alexis Jazz搶我的工作」這個問題釐清，這不僅能幫我了解為何你在RFP是這麼說，我不會再對Autopatrol感到困惑與不相信，也不會誤解你是要我停止編輯，所以我不是無理取鬧，希望你能幫我。--Kai3952 (talk) 22:50, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

@Kai3952: 依照目前情况来看，AJ是不会再次“抢”你的工作。他在29/11“抢”你的工作并不是不说你的编辑是破坏。如果你的编辑是破坏，他反而会回退你的编辑而不是“抢”你的工作。他自己都说了，如果你有autopatroller权限，他就不会干涉你的编辑。其他用户也说了，你的编辑会在他们巡查其他用户时造成阻碍。这并不代表你的编辑不好，而是觉得你的编辑不必被别人巡查。他们是为了方便自己在未被巡查的编辑找出破坏。再次强调，不是你阻碍他们的工作而是如果你的编辑都被自动巡查，他们会跟容易找出破坏。

To be honest, this is just a waste of my time. Everyone has been trying to help you, but you're not helping yourself and that's the problem. I took the initiative to help you when you asked if you can come to me when you face any difficulties. However this is not the case, you're just nitpicking at whatever anyone else says and make a fuss over it. Again and again you misinterpret the meaning of a sentence, I (and not only me) specifically asked you to just forget about it and AJ won't put his head into any of your business anymore but you still worry about it for god knows what reason.
