Template:Derived from and Template:Derivative versions

Why don't you use the {{Derivative versions}} and {{Derived from}} in your DerivativeFX? It is more compact than current unnumbered list, and is also specially created for the derivatives. Thank you beforehands. Ain92 (talk) 12:05, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

derivativeFX writes more than just the title, and this is with the template {{Derived from}} not possible. But Bilderbot uses the tempate {{Derivative versions}} to note the derivative versions. Greetings,--Luxo 13:18, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Sorry, I didn't noticed the usage of {{Derivative versions}}. =) But I think that being used in {{Information|Source}} the {{Derived from}} template can carry more information than is added now, e.g. one can easily add the small versions of images, which are (IMHO) very useful. Of course, I don't offer to use this template in {{Information|Author}} or anywhere else, but the template is more compact in wikitext and it's also autotranslated. So could you explain a little bit more why it's impossible to use it? Ain92 (talk) 21:31, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
derivativeFX adds e.g.:

All this information is not possible with the {{Derivative versions}} template.--Luxo 21:54, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

derivativeFC streikt

Was lässt sich da machen?

Was steht nachfolgend?
JavaScript is active.
JavaScript is disabled in your browser.
File:Beispiel.jpg eingibst, steht danach unter dem Feld "License of this file: PD-self". Funktioniert das? --Luxo 14:42, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

https

hi, could it be possible that the derivativeFX! process will use my https login cookie? Hidro (talk) 22:51, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

It would be nice if the current protocol would be used, yes. As a workaround: use e.g. the Firefox addon NoScript to make firefox automatically switching to https for commons.wikimedia.org. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 23:57, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
There is some modifications to make :
  1. The toolserver link on https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Upload should use https
In fact, /deri1.php should be appended to avoid the bad redirection HTTPS -> HTTP on toolserver
  2. https://toolserver.org/~luxo/derivativeFX/deri1.php should preserve protocol (links, login check)

I'll do this if I have time, that's not in the next days. It's on the to-do list, but I think this issue hasn't a high priority. --Luxo 20:34, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

DerivativeFX bug

Could you please fix DerivativeFX so that it pulls in more than 50 items from the history of the page? It's only pulling in the most recent fifty, which is very bad because it misses the original contributors, who often are the most important authors. Magog the Ogre (talk) 22:38, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Derivative FX Unsuccessful upload

I tried to upload an .svg redrawing of a .gif but the upload was unsuccessful due to "session data loss" and a request to try again. A new attempt resulted in Derivative asking me NOT to upload again... Catch 22? GregorDS (talk) 07:08, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

session data loss is because of a change of the mediawiki upload form. just press upload again then it works (don't go back and try again, press upload again)--Luxo 18:11, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I have the same problem. Unfortunately, your workaround isn't very intuitive... Most users will simply fail because they don't know this trick. :( --Cubefox (talk) 21:03, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
I know but direct upload isn't possible anymore. And at the moment I don't have the time to improve the tool, furthermore I don't have a idea how to fix that. best way would be a complete javascript implementation like the "normal" upload form; but this takes a lot of time....--Luxo 13:48, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
Ok I understand. But could you mention the workaround in your tool? One sentence at the end would be enough I assume. --Cubefox (talk) 23:20, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
Update: User Rillke says that a fix would be "fairly simple". Maybe he could help you? --Cubefox (talk) 23:37, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Can you help me with this situations?

Hello :) I have a problem and I think I will repeat itself for many images: having made a picture vertically, and oriented Having lived with a program such that, although the loading time was right, you are not in the correct orientation. I can not understand why the commons has driven further (incorrectly plus). To make matters worse some resolutions I return it right, others wrong, the preview is always wrong. How can I do? Thank you in advance just for your trouble. Ciao ;) --Pava (talk) 17:08, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

PS sorry the image is this. --Pava (talk) 17:09, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
I hope I understand your ask correctly: You rotate your picture on your computer the right way, after upload they are wrong again. That's because your camera saves the orientation of the picture in the file, see Commons:EXIF#Orientation. If you rotate the picture on your computer, only the file is turned but the orientation tag of the file is still wrong. As you can see in the comment of rotatebot at your file, rotatebot corrects only the exif orientation tag and doesn't rotate the file. If you upload your picture directly from your camera, without rotation on the computer first, it should be the right way. Greetings--Luxo 18:51, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

derivativeFX und PD-Coa-Germany

Hallo, ich habe gerade rausgefunden wenn man eine Datei die die Lizenz PD-Coa-Germany angibt, es zu einer Fehlermeldung kommt das eine No valid license found! Error message on uploading files

For some time now I have tried to upload some derivative files and although a DerivativeFX pop us says my file i on its way to WikiCommons I get a WikiCommons page saying that unfortunately there was a problem, try again later, try to log out and back in... Does the DerivativeFX actually work?

GregorDS (talk) 13:58, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

I know this error, it's because of a change at the mediawiki upload form, but yet there is no easy workaround. You don't have to go back, just press upload at the end of the error page again, then it works. Greetings--Luxo 15:56, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Love the tool Luxo; shame about this bug. At Commons:Village_pump&oldid=72597642#Errors_in_DerivativeFX it is claimed to be a simple fix; are they mistaken? -Arb. (talk) 21:13, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

No valid license found!

My attempt to use derivativeFX today results in a No valid license found! error. It doesn't seem to have a problem with all files. With File:ChildrensofFatima.jpg there is an error. With File:Dark Days Are Coming.jpg there is not. – JBarta (talk) 00:46, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

I've noticed that. But it has read it on dozens of previous occasions, so something has changed. Schwede66 05:45, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Right, I've used it successfully many times in the past. Something has recently changed. – JBarta (talk) 13:52, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Same problem with File:Kawaihae Bay in 1822.jpg (license template {{PD-old-100}}); no problem with File:Dom Pedro I 1809d.jpg ( {{PD-Art}} ). --GianniG46 (talk) 09:02, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Again the problem, this time with a {{PD-old}} file (File:La Famille Royale de Tahiti, 1906.jpg), while the previous problem, with File:Kawaihae Bay in 1822.jpg, has been solved by changing the license from {{PD-old-100}} to {{PD-Art|PD-old-100}}. Evidently DerivativeFX has got problems with PD-old licenses. --GianniG46 (talk) 17:48, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Cropbot acting without visible request

File:Johannes_Gehrts_-_Thor,_der_Donnergott.jpg has no request in its page history, yet was still cropped. The crop didn't actually show in Special:Watchlist. Adam Cuerden (talk) 02:47, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

It was me. I thought it would be better to get rid of the additional border. If this border is intentional please add Category:Images with intentional borders. --McZusatz (talk) 08:15, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
Oh, they're necessary on most lithographs and engravings. The boundaries are often part of the art. In particular, with this one, like with photogravures, showing some extra paper is necessary because the centre bit is a different colour than the main paper. As well, without the border, one would most likely suspect that the scanner had made the paper - a common issue - and try and readjust away artistic intent. Plus, the borders of these sorts of images look very different than a perfect rectangular crop does.
Finally, the paper grain is usually left in for restorations. This causes a reuse issue if you don't leave enough border that it can be cut to modern paper sizes.
Cheers, Adam Cuerden (talk) 10:18, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
