Hi - thanks for contributing to the commons! I noticed the image Image:Nasa.florida.750pix.jpg you just uploaded, and I see a few problems with it:

  • Please always upload a full resolution version - on the page you give as source, ther's a version with 3000x3000 pixels. Cropping the black edges is fine in general, but because for jpeg, this means re-compressing the image, this always means a loss in quality.
  • Please avoid giving the size/resolution in the file name. Someone (like me) may want to replace the image with a slightly cropped version, or with a higher resolution. Creating thumbnails and other scaled versions is a job best done by the mediawiki software.
  • Please always put images into categories and/or gallery pages, so they can be found and used by people searching the commons by topic. Images that can't be found that way are useles to others.

Regards, and thanks again -- Duesentrieb(?!) 08:57, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: PD-MORS[edit]

Hi, It's OK. But I think you should create a template that is based on Template:Copyrighted_free_use_provided_that. You could have both the green (C) image and Znaksz.gif. Also you should fix the red "MORS" link, and note there is a typing mistake in the word "located" (it has "loacted"). Ideally, the name of the template should also be changed, since it is not "PD" and that could be misleading. (That might be difficult to do, though; I don't know.)

Thankyou for responding so quickly! :) pfctdayelise 15:05, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! It looks a lot better. There are a couple more changes I think should be made. I will make them and you can see what you think. Thankyou again for being so responsive. pfctdayelise 13:15, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

--Heretiq 21:08, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Commons-l subscription[edit]

Hello Klemen Kocjancic,

as per Commons talk:Administrators, I am asking all admins to subscribe to commons-l, a mailing list for Wikimedia Commons policy and project discussion. Since many admins are only on Commons infrequently, this is a good way to alert people about important happenings. The mailing list is nominally multilingual, but predominantly English.

If you are already subscribed to commons-l, I apologize for bothering you, and you are free to ignore this message. If you don't want to use your regular e-mail account, feel free to leave me a message, and I can send you a GMail invite. Traffic on the mailing list is relatively low, and we do not expect admins to read all messages to the list, but it would be nice if you could check on it at least every few weeks. Thanks for your time,--Eloquence 23:08, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Klemen,

could you do us a favor and close the discussions of the images you have deleted with {{Delh}} and {{Delf}}? This helps our useres to verify quickly who closed the discussion and who deleted the image in the case of further questions. Thank you! --ALE! 06:39, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, yes, these weren't images. But anyway, the pages were listed on Commons:Deletion requests. So please close the discussions in the future. --ALE! 06:47, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Admin news[edit]

Hello,

If you consent for statistics to be published about your actions as an administrator, please sign here: Commons:Administrator permission for statistics. (I expect that most people will not have a problem with it unless you are especially concerned with privacy.)

Also, please be aware that we now have a Commons:Administrators' noticeboard. Please put it on your watchlist, if you haven't already!

Hello. Please give us your oppinion on the matter. If you use Inkscape software (it is a graphical programme, wery easy and available free of charge) you can even solve the problem.

Namely if you would like to compare my contribution in the Flag of Slovenia file with those of one other user I would be very happy to hear your comments.

Also if you would like to check out the discussion (link is in the headline/title) there you should find complete discussion about the topic of colours of the Slovene Flag. In the discussion there are some 15 important files to download and skim-read. Even the particular pages are listed for easier handling of information.

Penny for a thought. :)

Administrative notice[edit]

Deutsch

Dear Klemen Kocjancic. I am writing to you to inform you that because of inactivity, you may lose your adminship on Commons.

Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a two-week poll on the proposed policy's talk page).

If you want to keep your adminship, you have to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days. Note that if you don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will then lose the adminship anyways.

Thank you — Mike.lifeguard 16:56, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

De-adminship warning[edit]

Dear Klemen Kocjancic. I am writing to you to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of inactivity.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

You can read the de-admin policy at Commons:Administrators/De-adminship.

File:Grb GSSV.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Botanic and category suppression[edit]

Hello Klemen,
About your suppression of Alliaceae, Category:Alangiaceae: In botanic but more generally in taxonomy we don't suppress Commons categories corresponding to important en:taxon that are just no more recognized by uptodate classifications.
We use {{Category redirect}} to redirect Alliaceae to its new destination.
We do that for 2 reasons:

  • to explain why the taxon is no more recognized (give sources)
  • to avoid contributors recreating the same categories.

Would you mind recreating these categories?

A heads-up[edit]

You deleted Category:Ana de Armas. I recently uploaded File:Ana de Armas when she was a member of the cast of El Internado.jpg. I also requested a {{License review}}, for the reasons I explained at File talk:Personajes de El Internado.jpg

If the images survive that license review they belong in the category you deleted, I suggest it should be brought back from deletion. Simple recreation of deleted categories is a distant second choice, in my opinion, because the revision history of the deleted material may contain evidence of editorial issues, or lessons learned. Geo Swan (talk) 22:00, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

OK, it's restored. Regards, --Klemen Kocjančič (Pogovor - Quick response) 08:57, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Category deletion[edit]

Hello,

could you refrain from destroying categories that contain information templates? These categories might contain no media because the files were miscategorised (Category:Ivory plaque-AO 11493 and Category:Tablet with cuneiform abecedarium-AO 19992; in both these cases the image were even present in the category description, they were not hard to locate), because they were not uploaded out of oversight (Category:Ivory plaque-AO 11485), or even because information on a particular item becomes available and needs to be stored before images become available (as was the case for some time with Category:Scale model of Neptune-MnM 21 MG 16). These categories are not empty, they contain valuable information that is painstakingly transcribed and referenced.

Thank you. Rama (talk) 07:32, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Restoring would put back in the history the original edit dates and summaries, yet it doen’s seem to be what happened. I’m quite sure I didn’t originally created this category today (rather a few years ago?) and you could not have it deleted before it was created. This could be a mistake concerning timezones, but eitherway it is an unexpected behaviour (a bug?) in the restoring tool. (How ever I often ask such restorings from cat deleting admins and never noticed this kind of discrepancies). -- Tuválkin 18:31, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of empty category[edit]

Please restore Category:1. Ober-Elsässisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 167. There were a total of 226 regular German infantry regiments on the eve of World War I, namely 5 Foot regiments, 23 Grenadier regiments, 150 line infantry regiments, 14 Fusilier regiments, and 24 Bavarian regiments. As you can see in Category talk:Infantry Regiments of the Army of the German Empire, only a few red links are remaining. Just because one or two of these are empty for the time being does not make a deletion sensible - future uploaders have an easier time navigating an existing and exhaustive category system. The German article for the regiment exists. PS: On which deletion request did you base your action? --Minderbinder (talk) 09:40, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at your sparse contributions over time, and the various comments on your talk page, I have come to the conclusion that waiting on an answer is fruitless. I have recreated the category myself. Should you senselessly delete it again without any prior discussion, I will seek appropriate action. You know, I am a sysop on the German Wikipedia myself, and I would never act in such a careless and lazy manner. Suit yourself. --Minderbinder (talk) 07:56, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please participate in the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons![edit]

Dear Klemen Kocjancic

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.

As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.

Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 10:18, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a short survey regarding UCoC[edit]

Hello Klemen Kocjancic,

I would like to inform you that we now have a survey in place to take part in the UCoC consultation. It is not a long one and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey even if you have already participated in the on-wiki consultation. It has a different set of questions and allows you to participate anonymously and privately.

As a member of the Commons functionaries, your opinion is especially essential. Please click here to participate in the survey.

You are still welcome to participate in the on-wiki discussions. If you prefer you can have your say by sending me an email. You can also drop me an email if you want to have a one-to-one chat.

Thank you for your participation! Wikitanvir (WMF) 13:54, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fairly urgent request[edit]

Hey Klemen - I have a fairly urgent request to be able to upload .mp3 files and other rich media as part of my work

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons:Requests_for_rights&action=history

If I do not get it in next 20hours...would you be able to do me a favor and upload an .mp3 from

https://djecjakuca.hr/djecjakuca-hr-cc-by-sa-3-0

I need it for tomorrow morning workshop :-(

Thanks in advance! -- Zblace (talk) 12:01, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see why you need autopatrol rights for uploading media files. Can you elaborate on this? Regards, --Klemen Kocjančič (Pogovor - Quick response) 15:53, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Klemen Kocjancic it is needed for .mp3 :-/ --Zblace (talk) 13:31, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I gave you one month. If there will be no problems and you need more time, let me know. Regards, --Klemen Kocjančič (Pogovor - Quick response) 13:46, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Klemen Kocjancic thank you! --Zblace (talk) 13:48, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category "Unteilbar" Videos[edit]

You deleted the category. Because of an error the files in the category had disappeared from the cat, I have put the files back in the category, but the category is still read. --C.Suthorn (talk) 19:16, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Klemen Kocjancic: --C.Suthorn (talk) 19:07, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay. I meant to ask you: should the "Videos" in the ctgs name have been written with small letters as "videos"? Regards, --Klemen Kocjančič (Pogovor - Quick response) 04:35, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I do not really care if the word video is capitalized or not. MW-search is case insensitive and autocompletion in MW search boxes transposes lower/upper case according to need. There are other cases were a word is part of an official name of an even or organistation, but here the event name was actually a hashtag: #unteilbar (but the hash sign in filenames is not really a good idea) --C.Suthorn (talk) 17:39, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then I would suggest that you use small-letter "videos" and just create a complete new ctgr. Regards, --Klemen Kocjančič (Pogovor - Quick response) 17:50, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You haven't undeleted the category, now the files have been decategorized again. ping User:KimHolgerKelting --C.Suthorn (talk) 19:23, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Report[edit]

Hello, please take a look at this report: Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#Files named with meaningless/disruptive names (motivated renaming was reverted without any valid reason) as these are serious everyday violations of the Commons rules and protection of meaningless names (in this case, Kalumny which translates as Columns). User Kazimier Lachnovič with filemover rights constantly performs violations of the Commons rules, creates instability issues and protects meaningless names, thus creates confusion. His Commons admin rights previously were lifted, but it is clear that it is not enough. -- Pofka (talk) 17:18, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Earl Edward Anderson has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this gallery, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Categories deletions[edit]

Good morning. Could you please be more careful about your category deletions. Once again, I find a category deleted by you (26 avril 2021 à 10:10 Klemen Kocjancic d contributions a supprimé la page Category:1700 in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (Empty category (C2): content was: "

1700
1701
1702
1703
1704
1705
1706
1707
1708
1709

1700 1700", and the only contributor was "Birdie" (talk)))that:

1) isn't empty whatever the stupid db says. Category:1700 in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur isn't empty since the 2020/09/29 when Category:1700 works in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur was created.
2) You even dared to put C.2 as a reason, which can't be justified. If a category is empty and is obviously unusable, unlikely to be ever meaningfully used, it may be speedily deleted. So, it seems obvious to you that nothing ever happened in the AD 1700 in this place. It has been deleted from history and everyone trying to claim something happened there and then should be executed? What were you thinking? Cleaning is ok but such an attitude is just hidden vandalism, especially because the category isn't really empty (and, even if it was empty, it would be filled later). Please think before deleting and don't hide under the C.2 category when it's just a lie. Thank you. --Birdie (talk) 07:57, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If in all this time, no meaningful file was added, there is not likely that ever will be added to such ctgr. And you just create empty ctgr for what reason? To pad your stats? --Klemen Kocjančič (Pogovor - Quick response) 08:01, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello,

I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? The idea is to let the public judge the sound logo contestants based on the merit of the logo, not the person or people who made it. Again, any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you,

VGrigas (WMF) (talk) 17:55, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I really don't know if this is possible (from the technical point of view), but I think that the idea is valid. Regards, Klemen Kocjančič (Pogovor - Quick response) 18:03, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

De-adminship warning[edit]

Dear Klemen Kocjancic. I am writing to inform you that you are in danger of losing your admin rights on Commons because of inactivity.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section/Aug-Sep 2022 before 13 September, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose their rights.

You can read the de-admin policy at Commons:Administrators/De-adminship.

Thank you! -- CptViraj (talk) 18:51, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, would you undelete the category? It was one of the few missing in the timeline and it should have files sooner or later. Enhancing999 (talk) 17:48, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! When the file will be uploaded, let me know. Regards,--Klemen Kocjančič (Pogovor - Quick response) 18:12, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Can you just undelete it now? Enhancing999 (talk) 05:38, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Have you found or uploaded the file? Plus I have found more then 50 empty ctgrs, that you have created. Are you planning to fill them or they will be just empty for an eternity, so that the timeline "looks good"? Regards, --Klemen Kocjančič (Pogovor - Quick response) 06:00, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a requirement that this category shouldn't be created without there being a file? If so can you point me to the relevant guideline? I hope you don't just delete stuff so your adminship doesn't laps.
It's just easier to create it now and add files than to do each year when a file comes up. Enhancing999 (talk) 06:45, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Look at the del log. Regards, --Klemen Kocjančič (Pogovor - Quick response) 13:50, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
