Adminship?[edit]

What do you say, Kimse? I believe you should be fine. --Kanonkas(talk) 15:38, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's about time! :) I'm kidding, of course. Actually, I'd be honored if the community thinks that I would be more useful to the project as an admin. I'm still learning a lot of things while cleaning up Commons, so if I'm an admin, I think it'll shorten the cleaning time. Thanks --Kimse (talk) 23:17, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Commons:Administrators/Requests and votes/Kimse here we go, just sign it and good luck! --Kanonkas(talk) 00:33, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for putting another note but can you say on the RfA "I accept" and then sign it? We do it on RfA's just so we know that the candidate accepted it. --Kanonkas(talk) 00:43, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Tusen takk, Kanonkas. --Kimse (talk) 00:59, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Метро[edit]

Приветствую, не могли бы вы добавить категории в сделанные мною фотографии про метро. Спасибо.--fariko (talk) 09:46, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

С удовольствием добавлю твои фотографии в Baku Metro коллекцию. В description напиши где какая станция, чтобы я смог их разсортировать. --Kimse (talk) 06:36, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. What about rotating? I see that you put template but image is still in not good position. Regards, pjahr ۞ 16:47, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I checked the history of the image - User:Rotatebot skipped the actual rotation process and just removed the {{90}} tag as if the job was finished successfully. But User:Luxo, the operator of this bot, spotted the problem and put the tag back in. Now the image is correctly rotated. Thanks for the note, --Kimse (talk) 04:52, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re:Flickr upload[edit]

Thanks, I upload the pic on the way as you told me and the photo is ok now, but the whole process seemed very strang--atlaslin (talk) 06:44, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ji Kimse, the tool Flickr2Commons can't work, I still use the toolserver. Here is another question that now many photo carry with GEO-information like this one, which is took on Opera Plaza, San Francisco, USA, but WikiCommons "metadata" information can't display it, can it be improved?--atlaslin (talk) 08:41, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I've used the two uploading tools Flinfo tool and Flickr2Commons. The former one I think just give the information but couldn't transfer by it and the latter one is good in speed and easy-going aspects, but it can't change the name when duplicated and can't put it in perfect Category before uploading. And sometime Flickr2Commons also have problems, like this photo, I uploaded it more than 4 times by this tool and everytime it report ok but now I can't upload the original photo from other tools anymore. This situation is just what I said "can't work" yesterday. On the contrary, tool bryan is much better on these aspect except can't dealing with geocode and the whole process is too long and slowly than Flickr2Commons. I think add the best part of Flickr2Commons into tool bryan would produce a perfect tools for uploading flickr.--atlaslin (talk) 11:37, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hi Kimse, another weird problem happened when I uploading photos by Flickr2Commons: the uploading report is success and I even can see it on wikipedia article properly like this but I can't see it on its own WikiCommons page, same problem with this photo. Do you know what's the problem?--atlaslin (talk) 10:14, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It seemed some of them turn to be normal, but still can't see the uploaded photos instantly maybe the wiki commons server overload problem?--atlaslin (talk) 10:43, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Harika Dronavalli[edit]

Hello. Please, take a look that order of words is not correct: Dronavalli is a first name, Harika is surname (f.e. [1], [2]). So, category should be named Category:Dronavalli Harika. I can create a new one and remove three images but cannot delete the present one (or maybe you want to do this). Regards, pjahr @ 06:52, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thanks a lot, Pjahr. I should be more careful with the names next time. I've changed the name of the category and corrected the player's name in the pictures. --Kimse (talk) 07:34, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that was my pleasure :) pjahr @ 12:10, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I am afraid that I might be wrong... At German Wiki there is Harika Dronavalli (2008), and I really don't know, maybe you were right about her first name and surname? BTW - congratulations, Mr New Admin :)

Well, you were right... [3]. Would you please undo that operation? Regards, pjahr @ 19:29, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kimse, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons @ irc.freenode.net. Also consider joining #wikimedia-admin, the cross-wiki coordination channel for Wikimedia administrators. Any member of the channel can invite you in temporarily, but you need an invite exemption from a channel operator to get in whenever you want. Please come to #wikimedia and ask for an invite. Any admin from any project is welcome.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading.

Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references....

Please update Commons:List of administrators by adminship status in other Wikimedia projects if appropriate, and check the inline note I left here (if you can, please clarify that on the other two lists linked in the above message too). Thanks and congrats! —Giggy 00:21, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Genera of Compositae[edit]

You have been here since April this year. Welcome. -- carol (talk) 06:06, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I honestly was not upset and I don't know about hot or cold, but it is a weird challenge to not appear upset online after an accusation of being such. I rather like genuine as a goal than a temperature, but that is me.
I genuinely would have taken your talk page off my watch list after leaving a closing remark like the one you left there so my purpose here is to paste the last few lines from what I wrote which are the fewest words that I would like to not be missed due to variable temperature conditions, heh...
If you would like to know further about the futility of taxonomy, there are two articles from the magazine Scientific American which are fueling my enthusiasm with the two things I am trying to accomplish here. One article may or may not be online, but was about using a wiki-framework for more technical applications and the data set which is the images is a natural for demonstrations of this, in my opinion. The other article is available online, I call it canis soup but the real title is "What is a species".
And more, I am trying to work with three of these "snapshots" of evolution of in a way that will allow a new snapshot to be added to it. -- carol (talk) 06:41, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Kremlin photos[edit]

Hi there, I will address this in English, so that a wide range of editors can view it if needed. The old Kremlin template was deleted, due to the Kremlin website not clearly allowing commercial work etc. However, these photos are different, in that they are not authored by and/or credited to individuals, but are clearly credited to Photo: the Presidential Press and Information Office. As you can see from Template:PD-RU-exempt, official documents of state government agencies are not subject to copyright; the Presidential Executive Office being a State Government agency. As these photos are in effect official documents of that agency, they are not subject to copyright, and hence may be used on Commons without restriction, regardless of how vague the right to use on the site is. I would request a response on this, and where this can be raised to a larger audience as well, as it is imperative that these free works to be used by Commons and WP. Cheers --russavia (talk) 01:53, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Russavia. Thank you for your reply. To request the files to be undeleted, please go to Commons:Undeletion requests and follow step-by-step instructions. Please include the pictures' credentials that you've mentioned above and a link to Commons:Deletion requests/License tags of russian websites as a reference. Let me know if you need help with any of this. Cheers --Kimse (talk) 02:07, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Kimse, I will get that done straight away. It seems the Presidential office has made these changes for some reason; hopefully this works in our favour for allowing use on Commons.I did start Commons_talk:Licensing#PD-RU-exempt, as I wasn't sure if you would get the above message in a timely matter, but will concentrate on the undeletion request; if I get stuck, I will surely come back for help. On a sidenote, are you in Azerbaijan? Cheers --russavia (talk) 02:15, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey mate, all done. here's the discussion. Cheers --russavia (talk) 02:24, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As brought in the original log that Magnus's bot provides, the taker of the photo was Enwiki user Sstair who licenses it under CC-BY-3.0. I merely moved it to Commons using Commonshelper. Any enwiki sysop (such as myself) can see the original history of the page (brought by Magnus's bot) that SStair licensed the photo on enwiki, which is what the licensure states here. I believe that it all that is necessary, although you are welcome to contact Sstair directly yourself. -- Avi (talk) 03:31, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Correcting license info by Karpidis[edit]

Hello... I will ask him at flickr about it, I hope he will answer pretty soon. Regards, pjahr @ 21:16, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The answer from Karpidis:

Actually some of my photos were taken from Ozgur Akman that I had borrowed him my camera. He gave me the right to upload them as my photos. I told him about CC so he told me ok everybody can use them if cite my name. So if you can change the name of photographer I can change the license again to CC. I didn't want someone to took photos that were not taken by me but only by my camera. And because the default license is CC for all my photos took some hours until change it when it was uploaded.

I have asked if he could let us know a list of images with changed licences. You will change descriptions or delete them? Regards, pjahr @ 05:53, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As I suspect, he will not change licences of Ozgur Akman's images and I don't know if we could ask him to ask Mr Akman to send us a permission. Karpidis wrote some sad words about Wikipedia and he doesn't care about our project. Well, of course he can think so. I asked him to send me a list of files with changed permission but he doesn't answer. So I think you should delete copyrighted images. Regards, pjahr @ 14:42, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Of course I show him "his" category and that was not concerning him... He wrote some negative words about project itself. I don't wanna cite it here, it was private message. pjahr @ 04:47, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you deleted this image with a template that I need to pay attention to copyright. Thanks for adding the {{trademarked}} licensing template. I realized that the (otherwise free) image would have legal complications because of the product labeling, but was puzzled as for what to do. I took a look at IPhone SIM Slot.jpg, but despite having the Apple logo, no template is used.   — C M B J   08:10, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
