If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikipedia user, link to the person's local user page.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

Hello. The image above is not in the public domain (nor are any of its derivatives). Every version of the potato logo was derived from the original version at Uncyclopedia:Image:Uncyclopedia_Potato_Logo.gif (and the Wiki.png version on that site).
However, rather than an obnoxious outright deletion demand (which is evil, meh), I have talked to the author (User:Rcmurphy) and he has agreed to allow the potato design only (excluding the english word "Uncyclopedia" at the bottom) to be released under GFDL/CC-BY-SA. The reason behind this, is Uncyclopedia itself is licensed under CC-BY-NC-SA and wants to retain some protection on the trademark and redistribution of "Uncyclopedia". It is a murky state of affairs, but Rcmurphy agrees that overly restrictive licensing is bad for everyone. If legally possible, this also allows all derivatives to be retroactively licensed under either of these free licenses (even if not derived specifically from that png). Hello,
I see you copied over one of my images (link above) from en.wikipedia to commons (a few years back now) but in the move, you forgot to update the licensing section. As it was originally set as {{GFDL-self}} as it was me uploading my own image, but when you moved it to commons, you forgot to change this to {{GFDL-author}} as you were uploading someone else's image, so it lost the important (and required) detail that I was the creator. (see as a comparison the image Image:DressageArenaLetters.png which I released {{Pd-self}} on en.wiki and the person who moved it over correctly updated that to {{Pd-author}}. As you can see, I've fixed the above image so it attributes the correct person (me in this case), so this is just a gentle reminder to be careful when moving images as some people might object strongly to it (as technically - if accidentally - you are taking someone else's images and claiming ownership of it.) （底下就不說文言文了，我最近壓力太大，不能繼續學文言文了。我還是對文言文欠佳，書買了也很少看。我承認我的文言很差，所以我決定退出文言維基，不再繼續替你們增加條目了。）
最近我參加電視節目錄影，成為電視節目的常客。我看那些小學生參賽者，他們都能回答大部分的問題。我反覆思考，他們不斷學習，還要幫助成人參賽者答對問題，他們壓力也很大啊。同理，我也是上了節目，學了很多知識，因為我以後也可能是參賽者，所以我平常也在想著，怎樣拿到高額獎金。先說好，就算我成績很糟糕，在維基百科，我還是一樣，要公平紀錄，絕對不會偏袒任何人，也不能因為這樣而感到丟臉。
文白相雜，沒什麼好丟臉的，因為中學之後，很多學生不喜歡文言文，就創造了次文化。次文化離我很遠，所以，我還是對一些傳統的印象是很深刻的。文言文當然也是包括在內，只是我根本就沒資格繼續待在文言文維基百科，你們自個兒忙吧。

Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]][[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
