Popeye191 isn't Chace Watson

Hi, I think you "wrongfully accused" and banned an editor as Chace, I doubt Popeye is Chace, firstly, Popeye has over 7000 edits and has been around on enwiki since 2008 and secondly, the first known sock of that meat puppet, Chace was created in 2009, this account back dates that and thirdly, if you look through the user's enwiki contributions, he generally edits one article at a time, massively i might add and lastly, even Chace won't be dumb enough to upload "unfree" files from flickr", he never made that mistake as MyCanon, why would he start now?..--Stemoc 00:42, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

I'm looking at the account's behavior within the scope of his 44 edits here at Commons. This acct started off as an experienced Flickr uploader, edited one file within an hour of MyCanon, edit wars on crops like many of the socks in the CW socks cat, uploads bigger versions, uses very similar edit summaries, etc. In any event, he can explain his behavior here on Commons, and refute the evidence I've presented in the RFCU in an unblock request. As for CW, he could be a sock of an older master account. These things get a bit twisted once you pile on dozens of socks over a period of years. Have a look at this for instance. This RFCU pre-dated JB27 by 3 years, and yet there's no mistaking these for anything but JB27 socks. I've seen the same thing with other LTAs. INeverCry 02:59, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
Maybe, maybe not, Chace was never obsessed with any article in particular, he would have a nice range..this user has been improving the Ben Affleck article and MyCanon wasn't known for improving anything..I believe this is a serious misunderstanding.. I have dealt with socks many times with my previous account and I just do not see the link here, I know you were a CU once, but unless an actual CU can verify this, I don't think its the right move...just saying, we don;t want to lose editors just cause an admin didn't follow procedures do we?..we aren't the english wikipedia after all..--Stemoc 12:53, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
This kind of badgering certainly reminds me of en.wiki Stemoc. INeverCry 17:44, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi! I saw that you deleted (File:Bornai Tibor.JPG and File:Egressy Zoltán.JPG) picture as per my nomination but I only asked to delete the older versions of that image because of copyvio. My newer version haven't contained any copyright protected images and as a derivative work of the original, it is still under cc-by-sa 3.0. I removed the law protected images from it. Advice, please: Categories Aircraft

Good morning! First, thank you for informing me about the change of my status.

I'm currently attempting to put (correct!) categories on aircraft photos. There is a five-digit number of such photos having wrong, incomplete or no categories at all. The sheer amount of aircraft photos needing improvement makes it a huge task.

Very often several photos fit into exactly the same categories. In order to speed up that work a bit, I would like to know whether there is a method categorizing more than one photo at the same time. Quite a while ago I asked user (admin?) Indeedous the same question, but there was no reply at all. Thanks! --Uli Elch (talk) 07:36, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

It's actually 1 in the morning where I'm at, so I'm about to say good night. ;) Here's the tool you can use for easy categorization of multiple images: Help:Gadget-Cat-a-lot. INeverCry 07:47, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
Just saw you are online again; so disregard "Good morning" in my first message - didn't know you are located somewhat far from Europe. Thank you very much for your hint! I successfully loaded the Gadget-Cat-a-lot and read the Help feature, but haven't got it up and working yet. Somehow the "Select files" function won't work, despite the additional explanation in Figure 1 (nothing happens when I click as described). Maybe I am simply too thumb dumb. Regards from dark Europe --Uli Elch (talk) 20:19, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
I'm sure you're plenty intelligent. These things just take a bit of time & experience. When you're in a category, and you click on cat-a-lot and expand it, you should only have to click in the white space under a file to select it, and a yellowish border will then surround it, showing it's been selected. Keep trying and you'll eventually get it. INeverCry 20:42, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much again - your hints helped me to make a big step forward. It mostly works now. This is a powerful tool, and I am very much aware that it has to be used with great caution and knowledge.
There are still one or two things I'm not yet able to manage (eg in the „Media needing categories“ fields), but I'll keep on trying. However, I possibly might have to bother you again in case I should not be able to solve these problems; hope that would be OK. --Uli Elch (talk) 09:09, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Thank you so much! I'm feeling better from the worst viral infection I've ever had; "West Nile" is no joke. Took me about four weeks to feel human again, just in time for the annual vacation! Do you know the link to the RFA page offhand, that is the hardest page to find! Ellin Beltz (talk)

Atleast it wasn't Ebola right? ;) But seriously, that sounds really rough. Very happy to hear you've recovered. Keep Commons:Administrators/Requests on your watchlist for new RFAs, though they're so few and far between lately it's almost not worth bothering. Our next nominee, BrightRaven, is enjoying his weekend, and so his RFA will likely start some time tomorrow. I just wish we had more willing victims nominees. Some of the people I ask say no, or ignore me, but I don't mind, as long as I get a yes now and then. INeverCry 00:08, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

File:Almada Negreiros Começar FCG img 7708.jpg

Dear INeverCry. I uploaded File:Almada Negreiros Começar FCG img 7708.jpg (an image you deleted yesterday) because I truly believed Freedom of Panorama applied to this image; I still do. I quote: "Portuguese copyright law allows the use of works permanently installed at public locations. The law explicitly mentions buildings and sculptures as examples of such works (§75(2)q). "Use" includes taking a photograph of such a work and publishing it (§68)". This applies to any work of art permanently installed at public locations, outdoors and indoors, as in this case. The image is crucial to Almada Negreiros' page (Portuguese Wikipedia), a page that took me 2 months to develop. There is no way I can upload it as fair use since its right place is Wikimedia Commons.Manuelvbotelho (talk) 09:37, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

As was stated at Commons:Deletion requests/File:PM.Millau.jpg, the drawing is fine, but the image of the bridge in the corner violates French FoP. Its purpose is illustration, so a COM:DM argument wouldn't seem to fit. INeverCry 16:17, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Question about closure/deletion of Categories for discussion entries

Hi. I see you deleted the following categories that I nominated for discussion.

The problem is that I was not proposing to delete them, but to reinstate them after they had been speedily emptied and improperly replaced by "Interior of Odakyu 3xxx series" categories. Maybe my nomination was confusing, and I should have nominated the new "Interior of Odakyu 3xxx series" categories for deletion, but is it possible to revert the close and replace them? Thanks for your help. --DAJF (talk) 00:13, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

Admin?

Hello. You proposed to me some time ago to start a RFA for me. Thank you for your proposal and sorry for this late answer, but I have been quite busy IRL these days and I wanted to read again the pages about adminship before answering. I think, as an admin, I could help processing the deletion requests and the clear copyvio cases. I think I know enough about copyright to deal with the simple cases. So if you nominate me, I would accept the nomination and I would be glad to help the other admins in these tasks if the request for adminship is successful. Best regards, BrightRaven (talk) 07:37, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

@BrightRaven: I'm glad to hear you're ready. I've created the nomination: Commons:Administrators/Requests/BrightRaven. Once you've added your acceptance statement under my nomination statement where I've indicated, I'll add the nomination to the requests page and start the clock. INeverCry 16:32, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
I have accepted the nomination. Thank you for your trust. BrightRaven (talk) 14:57, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

Why was my page deleted?

Dencia

Yesterday, you deleted 13 pictures of Dencia for supposed copyright violation. In fact, the person who uploaded the files, at my request, is Dencia's manager. Her company, with the manager as her representative, owns all those images of her and is the legal copyright holder of all those images. All works that had professional modification were works for hire.

The manager didn't understand the inner workings of wiki communication, for that you can deal through me.

The important question is how do we get this material restored? The files we actually need for the article are 2, 3 and 11. I have copies of the files, the reason I didn't upload them in the first place is because I tried to get this uploaded directly from the copyright holder. You know, the proper way. I've been through this process before and normally you offer me the opportunity to e-mail any necessary documentation.

I didn't expect you to be so impatient. Within seconds of my editing the pictures into the wikipedia article, they were deleted and delinked.

Either you can restore the pictures--that will be the the easy way. Or I'll upload and you can deal with me as a vicarious third party with e-mails attesting to my right to represent the pictures. ChristoperBGross (talk) 17:02, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

The copyright holder just has to send a permission email to COM:OTRS; once it's processed and confirmed, the files can be restored. If you plan to upload further files, make sure this is mentioned. OTRS will help you get this taken care of. INeverCry 17:16, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Advertising/self-promotion

Hi, I wanted to check in about this edit. It seems to me that the page you link doesn't accurately reflect common practice. Lots of people and organizations upload images with the intent of advertising or self-promotion, but in many cases we gladly accept them because they have educational value.

But, in hindsight I think my comment was probably too lenient. I try to be careful because sometimes there are people or objects that lack notability in the English Wikipedia sense, but are significant enough to merit some photos on Commons. I'm hesitant to rule out that possibility when I'm commenting from a place of ignorance.

But, elsewhere on that policy page, is a phrase that I think is pretty important: "...without regard for Commons' educational mission" It seems to me that is what matters here. If it's advertising without regard for what we're here to do, it will probably not establish significance, or include useful metadata. Those, it seems, are the kind of file we should be deleting.

I realize this is a kind of esoteric point, but I've watched you handle many deletion decisions, and I'm really curious -- what do you think about this -- could you expand a bit? -Pete F (talk) 04:17, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Educational value is the key, and this basically negates intention in some cases, as you indicate. If someone uploads media that has educational value with the intent to promote or sell something, we assess the image/s rather than the uploader's intent (this often applies more to images of events, places, and things than people).

On the other hand, we get a lot of uploads from people trying to promote their career, group, band, club, team, etc, who have no claim to notability whatsoever. These most often include images of non-notable people, artwork, mix tape covers, banners, posters, adds, etc. I'm very careful about this, and search google for coverage if a person looks like a possible politician, official, foreign celeb, writer, actor, etc. With files that show English named people, if someone isn't notable enough to have a page on en.wiki, where there are 4 million+ pages, than our hosting an image of them not used on a userpage usually violates scope. Occasionallly someone notable is found, but usually because a wiki article on them is discovered.

I'm not much for semi-notable, locally notable, or possibly notable in future. The image in this particular DR was of a nobody rapper, just like a million other nobody rappers. He's better off pushing his career on social media, as are we.

In the end the basic question is whether or not an image educates, or promotes and gives unwarrented exposure only. Personal judgement of individual admins comes into play of course, and most cases of self-promotion are really very simple. Because we get 10k images per day, and we have a backlog of uncategorized images numbering in the hundreds of thousands, the burden of showing notability of a person often has to rest primarily on the person/uploader themselves, and admins/DR taggers have to work pretty quickly. I personally have only seen a handful of the tens of thousands of scope DRs I've filed end up being kept. People like Eugene Zelenko and Lupo also have excellent track records. Experience, carefulness, and good judgement mean a lot. INeverCry 05:11, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

OK, thanks. I think our difference was pretty much just semantic -- I agree with everything you say, but it's helpful to see it spelled out so clearly. (And in hindsight, yes, I see I should have done a little web searching before leaving a comment.) Thanks for the insights. -Pete F (talk) 05:53, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Your decision is incorrect or incomplete (without analysis of other reliable sources on the Russian law). For example, the Supreme Court of the RF (see [1]) states that official document is not just document published officially. Alex Spade (talk) 20:37, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

But I get points for trying right? ;) I tried my best, but I was probably too simplistic in my analysis. Others like Stefan, Carl Lindberg, Yaroslav Blanter, Alexander Savin, Jim, etc, would very likely be able to get deeper into this. I don't object at all to you re-opening the DR.; if/when you do, I would suggest mentioning it to some of the people above and/or anyone else you know who might be knowledgable with this particular license, or on COM:VP/C, to attract more discussion/attention to the DR. INeverCry 23:36, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
Ok. COM:VP/C is suitable enough for continuation of discussion. Alex Spade (talk) 16:42, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry, Please pay attention to several Deletion requests that were opend by Jcb because he is angry with me because of this. He does not know Hebrew and can not understand what it is written on the OTRS tickets. In this case he even did not bother to inform me about the Deletion request. This picture was restored by Matanya. see also:

 1. Commons:Deletion requests/File:Ory Slonim.JPG
 2. Commons:Deletion requests/File:Ofra Strauss.jpg
 3. Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by צחי לרנר

I hope he had enough, But if you see another Deletion request that was opened by him and I am the OTRS volunteer, do not delete the picture only because of his request. Thanks. Hanay (talk) 13:41, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

I'll watch out. If this is a continuing problem, though, I would suggest you address it with OTRS adminstrators. INeverCry 16:29, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. I found 3 more Deletion requests that were opened to spite.
 1. Commons:Deletion requests/File:Menachem roth1.jpg - 28.8.2014
 2. Commons:Deletion requests/File:Menachem roth2.jpg - 28.8.2014
 3. Commons:Deletion requests/File:Menachem roth3.jpg - 28.8.2014
This is not an OTRS problem, this is Commons problem when an administrator use is rights for personal issues. Hanay (talk) 17:12, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
It's both a Commons and an OTRS problem because OTRS tickets are being used to justify DRs/deletions. As a non-OTRS member admin, I need to be able to trust what OTRS members tell me about tickets since I can't review them myself. INeverCry 17:34, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
You are right of course. But I suggest that if there is a deletion request about valid OTRS ticket, ask for the response of the volunteer that added the ticket. There is no reason to prefer the opinion of the user that decided that the ticket is not valid. In this case I am sorry to say it, but Jcb proved that he realy do not understand the law. I wrote a post about what happened in my blog in Hebrew Hana Yariv's blog - Wikipedia Stories, The Fishes and Everything. I also wrote a summary in English. Thanks. I would also like to point out that these images were not tagged for deletion - there was a DR opened, but no one ever edited the image pages. Now I'm not going to argue that all of these images were worth keeping, but there was effectively no notification for any of these, unless one specifically watches the DR page. I thank you for your work with closing DRs, but please make sure that images are actually tagged so that those of us who watch them know when they're endangered. -mattbuck (Talk) 11:05, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Also what the hell is remotely pornographic about a picture of a crocheted penis warmer that doesn't even have ANY penis in the image? See File:Willy warmer - which is used on the Willy warmer page on en.wikipedia. Mabalu (talk) 12:08, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Incidentally, please look at the nominator's uploads - a very random, very suspicious assortment of stock photos and obvious copyright violations. Request for some more help - Aircraft

Thank you for your friendly offer for further help, if required! At present, I have two more questions:

1) When using cat-a-lot in the „Media needing categories“ fields, I always get the following messages:

 • Done!
 • All pages are processed.
 • The following 2 pages were skipped, because the old category could not be found: ...
and nothing further happens. Any solution?

2) Unfortunately, there are many pictures with

a) extremely bad quality and/or subject depicted being way to small (examples: 2 and 3) or
b) entire series of up to 15 pictures showing exactly the same subject from the same perspective, taken in less than 1 second intervals (example: 4)

My question: Is there a simplified procedure for simultaneously proposing more than 1 for deletion?

Thank you very much again in advance. --Uli Elch (talk) 17:48, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
When using cat-a-lot in media needing categories, make sure you choose "copy" to the cat you want to add the images to, and not "move." "Copy" will move the image to the cat you've chosen while automatically removing the uncategorized tag. As for doing deletion requests for multiple images, you should use Help:VisualFileChange.js. Could you undelete the transcoded Lilypond

Hi INeverCry,

You deleted File talk:Beethoven piano sonata 14 mvmt 1 bar 1-4.svg/Lilypond. This is the another version of the file. Could you undelete it?

Best, Akaniji (talk) 11:11, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

I undeleted it and moved it to your userspace so it won't get deleted again as an orphan talkpage: User:Akaniji/Beethoven piano sonata 14 mvmt 1 bar 1-4.svg/Lilypond. INeverCry 16:51, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

Questions

(1) File:Moto-Wings_Moto-Taxi_Madrid.jpg seems a very professional shot, and the uploader name implies publicity at work. What do you recommend? Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:48, 11 September 2014 (UTC) Ps. Thank you for the Cat, I translated his description to English.

I've tagged the image for permission. I knew you'd like the cat. I found it amongst the mass of uncategorized images. INeverCry 18:19, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

(2) This gallery just strikes me as odd, what is your take on it? I don't think one person takes that many different types, ages of images... but rely on your opinion as it is all over the place. Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:46, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

Emily Head pic

Hi, Thanks for cropping the photo and adding it to wikipedia. What is funny is I am new here and was teaching myself how to upload a photo I found of her so that I could edit her wiki page, but it seems you were faster than I was and beat me to it. I'm not upset or anything I just thought It was funny. What I am curious about is the process of how you created a cropped photo and uploaded it as a cropped image of the original. Could you please describe to me the steps you you took or direct me to where I can find help or tools so I may learn? Thanks. --Frankthetankk (talk) 05:49, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Could you please restore category:Kostyantyn Samoylenko files?

Dear INeverCry, 21th of August you have deleted the page Category:Kostyantyn Samoylenko. The relatives of the painter wonder why the pictures were deleted. Can you please restore the files? Thank you.

I would suggest having the heirs/copyright holder/s contact COM:OTRS regarding the files. INeverCry 20:21, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Could you review the deletion of file?

Hello! See, I had loaded file:Lirio de monte, monte Pindo.jpg and it had been deleted by copyvio but I don't agree with that because I think that the photo is CC-BY-SA. See, the photo is in this webpage, the license of the web is all right reserved, ok, but if you review the caption of the photo it says "Fotografía: Roi Carballal (CC BY-SA)"..., and with that, I understand that the image is valid for upload to Commons..., well, I think that, if there aren't other problems that I don't mind. Cheers!, --Elisardojm (talk) 11:04, 15 September 2014 (UTC) P.S:Sorry by my english.

Inappropriate Removal of File:Schilderij, zelfportret van Jacob Por - Utrecht - 20428314 - RCE.jpg

Dear Inevercry,

why did you remove this image? Of course we should keep illegal material out, but here copyright had been settled correctly: the image is part of an 460.000 image donation of public images, hosted by the Dutch State Heritage Agency (RCE, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rijksdienst_voor_het_Cultureel_Erfgoed), who has the rights to these images, see the license https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:RCE-license. RCE donated this image to Commons under CC-BY-SA-3.0 as you could see. The image is publicly downloadable from RCE website too, http://beeldbank.cultureelerfgoed.nl/alle-afbeeldingen/indeling/gallery?searchfield=jacob+por+zelfportret, under CC-BY-SA-3.0. There was a link to this free source on the description page. This image is free to use under CC-BY-SA-3.0 anyway, anyone can upload it legally to Commons.

So please put this legal image back, we need it for, e.g., https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Por. Por is an unsung pioneer of Dutch monument restauration.

Thank you, kind regards, Hansmuller (talk) 07:58, 12 September 2014 (UTC), Dutch Wikipedian in special residence at six cultural institutions

The argument there was different, it was not mentioned that it was a free image all the time, deletion is waste of time, isn't it? Hansmuller (talk) 12:17, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
No it's not and not it's not. Maybe it is better if I explain it to you in Dutch. Natuur12 (talk) 15:39, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

You seem to have deleted Commons:Deletion requests/File:Human Soldier from AVP (1305675579).jpg for lacking a description. I can't see the file, but presumably you can. Kappa Alpha Psi Province Map

Hi. I'm curious what the "copyright violation" grounds for deleting File:Kappa_Alpha_Psi_Province_Map.jpg were. I created the map after a lot of research/confirmation regarding the whereabouts of chapters, and I certainty did not take the map from another source; quite the opposite; after creating the map, it was used by the organization in some of its official publications. Please undelete it; thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sirrebral (talk • contribs) 18:59, September 17, 2014‎ (UTC)

Last Advisory on Edouard

You set the file File:06L 2014 5day.gif to be protected for a few days (for which I am thankful that you have done so), but since the storm has been declared as post-tropical (and hence, there will not be any further advisories), if you can do so pretty soon, please unprotect the file again. Thank you! =) Dustin (talk) 01:38, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

✓ Done INeverCry 01:40, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Okay. That's it for that file; all advisories are there, are properly labeled, and are intact! I don't know if this would be too problematic, but I noticed that with many track maps for significant storms, editors may often hurry to try to upload the most up-to-date track, but this often involves many versions not getting included, and it leaves behind a tattered file history (with only a few versions out of several, making the total value of the file not so great). I will most try to make sure that future tracks end up having complete file histories as Edouard (2014) now does, but perhaps in the future, if something like this happens again with a different track map file (with a tattered history), this will be a new approach to take. I personally think it would make more sense to upload each version individually (they wouldn't take much more actual space on Commons if I am correct in saying) with names such as "File:06L 2014 5day 001.gif", "File:06L 2014 5day 002.gif", or something like that, with them all in a category like "Category:Hurricane Edouard (2014) forecast maps" or something similar. Lastly, there could be an actual file named ""File:06L 2014 5day.gif", but that would just be an animated gif of all versions or something. Thank you again. Dustin (talk) 01:57, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
History merges and cleans are also an option. Not many admins know how to do them, but I'm not too bad at it. INeverCry 02:07, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Please pardon my asking, but what do you mean by "history cleans"? Perhaps it is obvious, but I am just not seeing it... Dustin (talk) 02:10, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
With a history clean, I delete a file, and then selectively restore wanted revisions, while leaving unwanted ones deleted. INeverCry 02:23, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Like I said before, I may have been over-aggressive on some of these maps, but... if what you say is true, does that mean you could delete four of the revisions on File:15E 2014 5day.gif (and the last version of File:16E 2014 5day.gif)? I know the file still works; my temporary anger was a result of my perfectionism, but I did want those to be removed. I am not requiring anything of you, so don't expect me to suddenly ask you to fix 50 files for me or something; a perfect file history is not a requirement. In any case, if you ever find the time, could you (I mean is it even possible) for you to simply delete the unwanted file versions? Thank you for responding, and I hope I haven't been asking too much of you... Dustin (talk) 02:42, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

File:Ljubljana - Poštna hranilnica (Cankarjeva 18) - figura dajanja (Ivan Jurkovič, 1927-30).jpg

Hi, INeverCry. I wonder why have you deleted the image File:Ljubljana - Poštna hranilnica (Cankarjeva 18) - figura dajanja (Ivan Jurkovič, 1927-30).jpg - it's just a crop of an image that was originally posted to Flickr under a free license; also the image subject (the sculpture) is already in the public domain. @Eleassar File:Ljubljana - Poštna hranilnica (Cankarjeva 18) - figura dajanja (Ivan Jurkovič, 1927-30).jpg is not the same or a cropped picture of File:Ljubljana - Poštna hranilnica (Cankarjeva 18) - figura varčevanja (Ivan Jurkovič, 1927-30).jpg. It is a different stone statue. (look at the file names: figura dajanja versus figura varčevanja) I could not verfiy the source for the first one on Flickr: The filckr account is deleted or inactive, the given source is not verifiable.--Wdwd (talk) 18:56, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
@Wdwd: no one claims File:Ljubljana - Poštna hranilnica (Cankarjeva 18) - figura dajanja (Ivan Jurkovič, 1927-30).jpg and File:Ljubljana - Poštna hranilnica (Cankarjeva 18) - figura varčevanja (Ivan Jurkovič, 1927-30).jpg are pictures of the same stature. Eleassar says both pictures are taken from the same Fickr stream and were obviously uploaded in the same upload batch. Since the second picture already passed license review it is fair to assume the first picture also had irrevocable free license although this cannot be proved because of the deactivation of the Flickr account.ℳ₪Zaplotnikcontribs 10:36, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of the Picture Totenkopf3.jpg is nescessary because new problems with copy right

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Totenkopf3.jpg

I did beg to delete the pic, because I don't use it any more. I was the only user and uploader. The same was happened with other pics (I did show it in the application of the Deletion_requests), so its possible to do this for me. You don't think so? I made this picture in time I was an employee. My employer tells me now, he share the copy right of the picture with me, he dont want to see this pic any more in wikipedia together with the name "Hans Bug" as uploader. I dont need to clear this in judicial proceedings and to get problems with my employer for NOTHING. After I tell you the new problem of the copy right, its not possible to let the picture in wikipedia against my will. Its not anymore trustfull to say the copy right is by me after I did tell, I want the deletion because the copy right. Thanks for your understanding and for your friendly administration -- Hans Bug (talk) 13:29, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

I don't agree with the deletion you linked to. I also see the copyvio claim as questionable. I would suggest you file a new deletion request based on the supposed copyvio claim of your employer. If another admin sees fit to delete it, I won't oppose. You could also post this at COM:VP/C, where they might even decide this should be speedy deleted. INeverCry 19:39, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello INeverCry, looks as if you've deleted this file after announcing it 3 days ago.
The problem is:

 • I don't know what this file has to do with my account ...
(may be, I was only the last editor? ... eventually only of some text?)
 • With this file deleted I've no chance to evaluate this, because it's history is gone too!
 • Feeling somehow sad about this situation ;((

May be I've to enhance getting track of my edits outside WP/WM Commons in the future ...

I can haz help please?

There's a few gnarly old deletions still hanging around out there in the DN's. I did what I could with some old ones today, could you take a run through the remainder and see if they're clearable? The list of old dates just looks too long... Sorry, my cat-like desire for a clean floor - except for food dishes and one or two toys - leads me to make this request.... Mrrrow! Ellin Beltz (talk) 22:15, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

I cleared out quite a few yesterday, and have done some more just now, but the rest are mind-boggling, so they'll have to sit for a bit. They'll get dealt with eventually. The backlog is actually really small compared to a few years ago when I first became an admin; back then there were 6 months' worth. In the end though, we need more admins participating in DRs, whether that means current admins who don't, or new admins, which are a pretty rare breed. Right now, we're losing more admins than we're gaining, and I have a hell of a time getting anyone to let me put up an RFA. INeverCry 00:07, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

I've put in a delete vote at the MFD on en.wiki. The image is unlikely to be a copyvio, but if someone wanted to tag it as such, it's the work of a friend and not Own. Ghost in the Machine

Our dear friend, with the same old camera, appears to be "back" again, please pardon the pun. While you were gone, this was the last iteration. Do we wait to see if more are uploaded by the same new name, CU, or what? Ellin Beltz (talk) 02:01, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

When you see an obvious sock like this, I would recommend an immediate block, deletion of uploads, and pinging CUs like @Trijnstel: , @Tiptoety: , @Magog the Ogre: , etc. I've blocked and tagged Ctgeo as a sock of Albianmoonlight. Good find btw. INeverCry 05:37, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice, I have archived it where I keep "notes to self" about how to do all these things. It got confusing on this issue with several loud voices raised and emotional words tossed around (this was while you were gone) and I have been very careful not to upset certain other "big" admins with this issue. This particular person (the uploader) I believe uses the same laptop at different locations; other people's wifi, coffeeshops, etc. and seems restricted to certain days of the month for the new uploads, many of which came in around the 21st of each month, almost like a calendar prompt every month. The photos are international too, there were some from Japan and others from the Baltic Sea, so we still have to keep looking. I don't think we've found all the effects of this uploader yet. Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:56, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
And one more, same sock https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Jamiexiuxiu.jpg, but uploaded by User:Rasputinfa who is blocked. Is the policy same over there? Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:11, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
Over there they have G5 speedy for sock creations, but User:Rasputinfa is blocked as the master acct, and uploaded this image before being banned. I would ask @Diannaa: or @Magog the Ogre: , as they're experts with en.wiki files. I'll keep a look-out for him here. If you see more socks/uploads here, get that (Block) button going, and nuke the files. You can label socks with Albianmoonlight on their userpage. Hi, INeverCry. why have you deleted the image "Naval Ensign of Hong Kong (Hong Kong independence movement).png" . how about File:Hong_Kong_Autonomy_Movement_Flag.svg, Hong Kong Autonomy Movement has the copyright? It also came from coat of arm of Hong Kong. It just the member of Hkgalden changes the british Hong Kong flag to the Naval Ensign of Hong Kong. This artistic work created by the United Kingdom Government is in the public domain. I've restored it and converted it to DR. INeverCry 17:41, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

I need a hand (or two-maybe even a foot) ;)

We were doing an image review at en:WP and it turns out that on two of the films/trailers, the movie was at the theater before the copyright was filed. Both trailers have copyright notes. Checked the original registrations and have newspaper clipping ads for local theaters showing the films. What needs to be done re: license in light of this? Thanks, We hope (talk) 00:42, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

You know more about these than I do. I would suggest asking someone like Clindberg, Jameslwoodward, or Stefan4, or posting at VP/C. INeverCry 01:14, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
Will do. Fell into this; went back to the original registrations and saw that the premiere dates were before the copyright dates. Got some news clippings which confirmed the IMDB information. Thanks! We hope (talk) 01:21, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Zombies

Hiya INC: I tried to delete these days ago, and apparently it didn't let me, see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/French_navigational_templates_created_by_Hermes79#French_navigational_templates_created_by_Hermes79. I tried again today and I don't even have a delete button on those pages. Any ideas? Yes, I was logged in! Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:59, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

I've deleted them. DelReqHandler comes up with errors now and then. Make sure files delete when you're first going thru them, and if they don't, and you get an api error, etc, try reloading/purging the page and trying again with DRH. You can also use the garbage can icon on the page, or the delete function in the dropdown list on the page. INeverCry 19:33, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for zapping them. I hope they stay down this time. Ellin Beltz (talk) 05:11, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
It's alright, I got them in the head. INeverCry 05:14, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi, Why did you delete that photo? I took it so there is no copyright violation. Sebastian27 (talk) 08:49, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

The image was deleted per COM:PRP because it's very small (84kb), has no COM:EXIF, and is of a pro footballer, all of which puts your claim of authorship in doubt. Can you upload a larger version with EXIF intact, or, if you cropped it from a larger file, can you upload that original file with EXIF? Also, remember that you have the option of posting an undeletion request at COM:UDEL if you want to. INeverCry 17:46, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

File:Angel-sessions-logo.png

Hi,

You deleted the file File:Angel's Logo.png per Commons:Deletion requests/File:Angel's Logo.png. It appears that same person who uploaded that file has re-uploaded it using the same rationale as File:Angel-sessions-logo.png. Should this one be tagged for deletion as well? - Marchjuly (talk) 11:22, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

The uploader is claiming they are the copyright holder at COM:VP#Angel's Logo.png flagged for deletion by El Grafo, but I am not sure if such a claim is enough to keep the file on Commons. - Marchjuly (talk) 12:10, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
I've deleted the logo again, and left a message asking the user not to re-upload but rather to send OTRS permission. INeverCry 17:37, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. If the uploader really does hold copyright then there should be no problem once they file an OTRS. - Marchjuly (talk) 21:03, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

User:Cleo8it

Hi, I noticed that you deleted the images submitted by User:Cleo8it. The images were created by her, through a digital facial reconstruction program (they are not photographs of people, but digital reconstructions of their skulls) and are her own work. I personally asked her to upload the images after viewing them on her website (which lists her Commons username as an email address, which indicates that she was the author). Please consider restoring them, as they were used for several Wikipedia articles and were quite useful. Thanks, --Gourami Watcher (talk) 14:05, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

In order to restore them, we would need her to confirm permission for hosting them on Commons by sending an email to COM:OTRS. We require this in order to have direct evidence that the copyright holder has released the images under a free license. This way, Commons and the copyright holder are protected. It doesn't take too long for OTRS to process an email and restore images. INeverCry 17:52, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
I just sent the person the information for the permissions site. Is it okay if the names of the deleted files are used? Would they know that the files were previously deleted and need to be restored? Thanks!Gourami Watcher (talk) 00:06, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
The OTRS member who handles the email will sort all that out. They'll know what needs to be done and will guide the copyright holder through the process. INeverCry 01:08, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Did u consider Commons:Threshold_of_originality#Switzerland and the verdict of Swiss Federal Court?--Sanandros (talk) 05:46, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

I considered our Swiss TOO guidelines given in English. A bat with a parachute is a very original and creative work. I doubt it was based on any previous parachuting bats, and so I think it's above TOO in Switzerland as I understand it. I stand by my deletion. If you disagree, please take this to COM:UDEL. Smiling Sun

Hi

You closed Commons:Deletion requests/File:Gekaufte Artikel Nein Danke.svg as delete.

What are your plans for the rest of the logos in Category:Smiling Sun? --MGA73 (talk) 08:02, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Since you say that the the OTRS permission is questionable regarding derivatives, I would personally think the thing to do would be to file a mass DR for all the images in that category where the logo isn't DM, then remove the Smiling Sun cat from the ones that're left (most, if not all of them, are in other protest-related cats), and then delete Category:Smiling Sun. Would that be agreeable to you? I ask because I would be using your name to back up the questionable OTRS/derivatives claim in the potential mass DR. INeverCry 08:28, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
I do not think that I directly said the permission is questionable regarding derivatives.
I tried to say that you could perhaps argue that the permission was not 100 % best practice because
 • OOA say that they would like to have the logo on Wikipedia
 • OOA reserve the right to sue use of the logo in a libel way (not sure "libel" is the correct term in English)
I'm sure that someone is out there have more legal expertice than I have so I think that they should decide if the two things are a problem.
It would be logic to start a mass DR because either the permission is ok and all files are ok or the permission is not ok and all files must go. --MGA73 (talk) 16:33, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
@MGA73: See Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Smiling Sun. INeverCry 17:48, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Deleted file: File:Malea_shoot.png

Hello. I think you have mistakenly deleted the image File:Malea_shoot.png -- I represent the copyright owner of this file and was authorized to post this to Wikimedia. The photograph licensed with a CC-BY-SA 4.0 license and is freely available on Malea's website. I have opened a ticket with OTNS to be sure, but thought, perhaps, I should comment on this deletion mistake on your page to let you know that the permissions existed for this photograph to be posted and shared. Thank you.

I didn't make any mistake in the deletion. You gave the author as Malea McGuinness and Douglas Kaplan. You gave no evidence of any permission to host this file on Commons under a free license. There was no link to a free license statement at the website you sourced this image to, and no OTRS permission. Anyways, If the OTRS checks out, they'll restore it for you. INeverCry 09:05, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply. OTRS did restore it for me. Thank you and be well.
Thanks, I'm glad to hear it. Take care. INeverCry 20:56, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Escultura Leitor

I would like to make sure we are on the same page regarding the following file:

File:Escultura Leitor.jpg

I received a permission statement. The name on the permission statement was not the same name as the sender. As you know, in the case of a photograph of a sculpture we need confirmation from both the photographer as well as the creator of the work. In this specific case the name in the permission statement was the photographer while the person who sent the permission was the sculptor. I wrote back and asked for confirmation that both parties were agreeing to the permission and just this morning received confirmation. Let me know if you think there are still some outstanding issues.--Sphilbrick (talk) 13:45, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

I trust your judgement. If you feel confident that the confirmation is solid, then I think we've got everything we need to host the image on Commons. INeverCry 17:52, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Over this 2 years I've learned more about copyright law. I can't proof that is 100% my own-work, please delete it as "copyvio" or "missing license". Something else I don't know how to do

Someone took a photo of a woman with kids in background [5] and tagged it into a template somehow so it shows up on a PILE of wikipages, like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agile_software_development which have little to no relevance to this image. I suspect, boyfriend/girlfriend stuff at work here. Any ideas? Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:58, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

You can change the image at w:Template:Software development process. INeverCry 17:23, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
I've fixed the source/author/date/license of File:Graham_portrait.jpg. I've also relaced the image in all of his articles and fixed the zh.wiki entry listing on Wikidata. INeverCry 17:23, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi INC: I changed the image, and I thank you for the work on the Graham portrait! Off to the salt mines for today.... see you later! Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:26, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

I'm sure someone will come up with a more appropriate image, if an image is needed. I personally prefer to use images whenever possible. BTW, the book the cruddy scan comes from actually has a lot of nice images of old watches, clocks, cases, etc. I may have to pull a few out and upload them when I get a chance (at much higher quality of course). Deletion of photo file.

Dear INeverCry,

You recently deleted a file showing a photo of Rubén González and Nick Gold. There was a comment stating that no article linked to this file, although I had included it myself not long ago into the article on Wikipedia:Rubén González (pianist).

Please would you kindly re-instate the file, and then perhaps also let me know how we could prevent a similar deletion from happening again in the future? Should I have added some kind of tag or template to link back to Wikimedia Commons, in order to indicate the file was in use in that article?

Thank you very much for your helpful assistance.

With kind regards;

Patrick. Pdebee (talk) 05:01, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

PS: My signature appears in red (above) because I am only registered as a user on Wikipedia but not here in Wikimedia Commons. Please check me out at Wikipedia if you need to assess my contributions there. Thank you.

Hi Patrick. The concern with this file is that it is a copyright violation, as it appears to be a scan of an older photograph. Is Susan Titelman the author of the original photo? If not, who is? INeverCry 06:25, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

File mover

How strict is the guideline for the bit? I've only have about 400 edits here (but many images that I originally uploaded to enwp, plus almost 50k edits there), but I often find files that need renaming and just usually ignore them. I would rather be able to just rename them as needed. Typically, these are files I find at enwp that point back to here. It isn't a big deal, but it would be handy if I could just do the basic cleaning up here as I do there. I'm confident that I have common sense enough to ask first when I'm not sure. Dennis Brown - © 21:02, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Long time, no see Dennis! I hope you're well. I've made you a filemover. INeverCry 21:08, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you, appreciate the quick action! I've mainly been gnoming. Being an admin is getting less and less fun over there, not that it ever was very fun. I'm trying to focus on things that actually matter: images, articles, that kind of stuff. Dennis Brown - © 21:10, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
I haven't missed it, but I was working myself to death between there and here. I notice there's been none of these over there lately. That's not to say I don't have a fuck of a time finding willing victims here... INeverCry 21:26, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
There is a lot of gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands over the lack of RFA candidate, but I don't have the time to fret. Last few months were spent with personal problems (lost my dad-in-law) and all that paperwork, which gets you to thinking about priorities, hence why I unwatched all the admin board pages. Tired of getting kicked from all directions, to be honest. I would rather fix spelling and upload a few images, maybe patrol some new pages. Dennis Brown - © 22:33, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I never went near the boards over there, especially AN/I, which I've been told is basically a home for the insane and obsessive. It's also why I resigned the tools rather than having the whole arbcom experience, another nut ward. I recommend FFD, CSD, and PUF highly though (but just the easy ones). The uploader of the logo that remains deleted (B1mbo) voted  Delete in the DR. That logo contains a very complex image of a bird and a ball. You can take that to COM:UDEL, but I don't see how such a logo can be hosted here without OTRS permission from the copyright holder. INeverCry 17:41, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
Might be so. But the flag I really want to restore is this white background and taijitu football one, maybe File:Chinese Taipei Football Flag on FIFA website.svg or File:Flag of Chinese Taipei Football team.svg. Now these are redirect pages recreated after your deletion. There is no copyright issues. Thank you many times. --紫陽花の下 (talk) 17:11, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Another question

Hi,

Regarding the photos uploaded by Cleo8it, I was wondering if they could be restored with an "OTRS pending" tag? The creator sent the permission to the Wikimedia foundation but has not received a reply. Thanks, --Gourami Watcher (talk) 17:12, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

No, only confirmed OTRS permission can restore them at this point. You can ask about progress at COM:OTRS/N, but OTRS members have a big backlog of work, so it may take a little while. INeverCry 17:17, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
