I think you got this wrong. If you follow the link to Flickr, and are signed as a user, you can see that the picture is public and licensed under CC. Flickr has recently changed its access conditions, especially with regard to pictures that contain nudity, so there are numerous pictures you can't access without a login. But that's not a license issue, the image is still within Commons license guidelines. ~ trialsanderrors 02:49, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind taking a look at this image for me. Its causing a little trouble on en.wikipedia. It stagged with the license {{PD-NL-RVD}} but is the only image here that is. There seems to be a disagreement about whether all reproduction with attribution or only non-commercial reproduction is permitted. Apparently the photo is used on the Dutch wikipedia. I thought you would be well placed to look into the matter- I'm afraid I don't speak the language myself. Thank you for your help. WjBscribe 12:34, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WJBscribe. I studied the copyright notice on the website of the royal family, and i think the license is not compatible for Wikimedia Commons. The website of the RVD (which distributes the photographs) states that the photographs may be used for private and non-commercial use, as well as 'by the media'. For any other use permission should be requested first. 'By the media' seems to narrow for me to authorize an {Attribution} license, so i guess the picture should be deleted. Fortunately we have a good alternative in Image:Máxima Zorreguieta pregnant.jpg. Husky (talk to me) 19:12, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking into it for me. WjBscribe 03:54, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS[edit]

I'm not too familar with the system. What I usually do is send Wikimedia commons a copy of the permission to use it under GNU, and then an admin usually archives it. Anything else beyond that I don't know how to do. I clicked on the OTRS thing on my image and it told me that I needed an account to do it?--CyberGhostface 21:59, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, you're right. You can't login to OTRS without an account. However, i see that User:MECU has already added the OTRS link to your picture, so no action is needed from your side. Husky (talk to me) 22:45, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Groet, Husky (talk to me) 12:39, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About Charles Smith photos[edit]

Sorry with my english, I am spanish and I don't use this language often. I take Charles Smith's photos from Flickr with the tag "Only search within Creative Commons-licensed photos" marked. I am new uploading photos and a wikipedia friend told me that the photos will be correct with this. I also mark the origin of the photos when I upload them. If I can do something to change the situation and turn the photos "legal" for commons, please tell me how (in spanish if is possible, if not in english :P).--Erbarto 00:00, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Erbarto. When you upload photos to Wikimedia Commons from Flickr you always have to provide the source (the exact link to the original Flickr page) and the license of the media. Unfortunately there is more than one Creative Commons license, only two of these (the CC-BY and CC-BY-SA licenses) are usable on Commons. To read more about Creative Commons in Spanish please refer to the Spanish article on Wikipedia. If you need more help in Spanish you could also try one of our users who speaks Spanish by following this link. Husky (talk to me) 12:45, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help and patience. I put on both photos a comment with the link of the photo from flickr. Can you see it and check if they are correct to stay in commons? The links to the photos in commons are http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Charles_Smith_Cara.jpg and http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Charles_smith.jpg

Thanks for all again.--Erbarto 13:18, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Erbarto. Unfortunately both photos are licensed under a Creative Commons Non-commercial license, (the icon with the dollar sign), which is not allowed on Commons. You have to upload photographs which are licensed either as CC-BY or CC-BY-SA. Flickr provides a special search engine for these photographs, simply follow this link. If you have any questions in the future, please don't hesitate to ask them here. Husky (talk to me) 15:08, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for all. Users with your patience make Wikipedia and Commons better! --Erbarto 15:46, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:IPhone Cover Flow.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. --Filnik 21:13, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr license laundrying[edit]

Hi Husky,

I found a couple of images uploaded by EUA (talk · contribs) (namely Image:Vampire Boris.jpg and Image:Vampire Bóris armour.jpg) that were clear copyvios, having been uploaded first to Flickr, then here. You reviewed them as ok. Please be careful, these images were obvious promo images from some TV show; furthermore (but this you had no way of knowing), the account is a sockpuppet, this user just keeps on creating new accounts and uploading the same pictures. When in doubt, ask around on the Village pump or the administrators' noticeboard.

Hello Husky/Archive2!

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. BotMultichillT (talk) 17:24, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Jackiechan withfan.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Jackiechan withfan.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Hello,

Would you have any more pictures of the 7E7 model in the Stedelijk Museum?

Is there a place where I could contact you?

Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark. I looked in my archives but unfortunately the only picture i made back then was the one you see here. Sorry :( Husky (talk to me) 22:40, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Isakovsky.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file ([[:File:Isakovsky.jpg]]).

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

How can this image be licensed the way it is? The photographer is not the author of the image at all, who certainly has not been asked... --AndreasPraefcke (talk) 21:16, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The rights of the original copyright holder have been cleared by the Tropenmuseum, who is the owner of this particular work of art. Husky (talk to me) 08:41, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I don't think that File:Neon.JPG is really primarily a work of art, more a utilitarian example of the craftsman's work, probably for advertising. I don't think it really fits category Category:Featured art pictures. --Tony Wills (talk) 01:38, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Same goes for File:Georges Bizet - Rosabel Morrison - Carmen poster.png, primarily an advertising poster (which obviously contains art work), but not a "work of art" as such, which is I think what that category is for. --Tony Wills (talk) 01:44, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I remember i saw the Neon sign somewhere in a German museum, so it might really be a work of art. For the other poster.. it's a bit difficult to choose what's art and not. E.g. the Alphonse Mucha images were also made for advertising, but are now generally seen as works of Jugendstil art.. Husky (talk to me) 08:42, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I looked at the Neon page to see whether it said where it was photographed (it doesn't), you may be right. I suppose just about any creative work can be classified as art (are the Egyptian pyramids art?). I suppose Andy Warhol blurred the distinction between "industrial" art and art for art sake. Looking at the category contents I was supposing the category was created for what might be called "fine art", or even classical art, paintings, sculptures etc. Maybe art has to be useless for any other purpose to be real art :-). Now I am wondering what use the category is anyway :-). Oh well, if you put those items back into the category I will not object, but I am not sure where the cut off point should be! --Tony Wills (talk) 10:55, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A very old question that still doesn't have a clear answer :) I created the category specifically to makea an 'art' section on the featured picture page. The pyramids do belong there i guess, maybe in an 'architecture' subcategory. Anything that is in an art book could be in the category i guess, so that rules out animals, landscapes, common objects, astronomy, sports, etc.
Work of art?
Sounds good, how about genetically engineered or other man-made animals [1], landscaped classical gardens, common objects like cans of Campbells Soup[2], engravings on man-made satelites, sports like correographed ice skating routines (ballet?)  ;-). I was going to say that the only common factor is 'man-made', but then what about this[3], can they even copyright their works :-). Yes, I think that I will definitely leave it to you to decide :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 20:08, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:Interpol.jpg[edit]

File:Interpol.jpg, I'm afraid, has to be deleted, although from the other images in the sequence this was freely licensed at the time of upload, the Flickr user has changed his permissions to all rights reserved. The other files in this sequence were bot uploaded and have flickr review tags to show that they were free at time of upload, however this one never had a Flickr review so its status at the time of upload cannot now be proven. Which is a pity because this was the best of the bunch, which is why I guess it was the first to be uploaded.KTo288 (talk) 05:15, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments NL[edit]

Beste Husky,

Pay attention to copyright
File:Ipod nano box.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

File:Lennon imagine.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
