Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire

The position here is a little complicated; Aberdeen (the city) used to be in Aberdeenshire (the shire county). It is now a council area and city in its own right (as is, for example, Bristol) and not part of Aberdeenshire. Hence those born in the city are still Aberdonians (and born in a UK city), and not necessarily Category:People from Aberdeenshire. It depends on the date of birth, obviously, and those born in the city before 1996 are both. So for the time being, I suggest we keep the existing distinction, and I've reverted your changes. Cheers. • I see what you've done now. Cities that are also council areas in their own right should have people categorised by both, as in Category:People of Scotland by city and Category:People of Scotland by council area. • Local government in Scotland has changed several times, confusingly. There are the old shire counties, now abolished and replaced by council areas. There was also a confusing period between the two, but I don't think that matters for categorisation purposes. I see you've diffused "People from the United Kingdom" into "People from Scotland", etc. which I think is a good move. Apart from the four city/council areas, I think all other categorisation needs to be by council are only, since the whole of the Scotland hierarchy is agreed to be by council area and not shire county, I am currently working on this. It's taken me nearly four months just to deal with Category:Fife, so this will take some time. There was also one editor Scotire who insisted on categorising by shire counties and has left an awful mess behind her; I'm also dealing with that as and when I can. Hope that helps. Cheers. Since this appears to be based on clear consensus, I'm happy to help out as well. I trust that, for instance, moving all files and categories from Category:People from Multnomah County, Oregon to Category:People of Multnomah County, Oregon is the best way to go about it? I would create redirects, as Sergio has been doing. Some people will still be accustomed to the old "People from" format, and the redirects will assist in making sure that files and subcategories make their way to the right category. @Peteforsyth: and @Skeezix1000: : I've just created this template (btw if you find any error in English in its manual correct it please).
I've also created this for the cities and this for categorizing by topic by state (usually people of states by occupation, city or county). I think that before starting recategorizing by city we should end the categorization by county, that in order to perform an organised job.
BTW always remember to:

• change Wikidata entry "Wikimedia Commons page linked to this item" (at the bottom of Wikidata page) for each category to be redirected from "People FROM xxxx" to "People OF..." (see here for an example). No need to place interlinks in the category because the system acquires automatically the ones listed in the correspondent Wikidata entry.
• when redirecting the categories from "people FROM" to "people OF", specify as reason in the summary something like "per Commons:PEOPLECAT#People_by_country_.2F_People_by_occupation_by_country" -- SERGIO ^{(aka the Blackcat)} 15:49, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

Problemino

Ciao, c'è un problema riguardo a Special:Contributions/Aeronautdif. Il problema è che le foto sono taroccate. Parto dall'inizio. Non so quanto conosci l'aeremodellismo dinamico, ma si fanno campionati mondiali, ed una delle categorie riguarda riproduzioni di aerei jet, e parlo di "giocattoloni" grandi oltre 2 m con vere turbine a kerosene, seppur in miniatura. Per darti un'idea[1].

Ora, nei mondiali si valuta anche il livello di riproduzione, in particolare vanno portate foto dell'aereo reale, con la stessa livrea del modello. Purtroppo i mondiali 2013 un italiano ha portato un aereo con una livrea "realistica" ma mai esistita in effetti, e ha pensato bene di taroccare delle foto, caricarle su commons ed inserirle in voci su wikipedia, e quindi allegarle alla documentazione (se c'è su wikipedia è vero, pensava...), purtroppo è stato sgamato e squalificato a vita. Le foto del modellino sono proprio quelle linkate sopra. La notizia è girata parecchio nel mondo del modellismo, dagli USA[2][3] alla stessa Italia ([4][5]. Se cerchi trovi anche in [6].

Comunque, il problema è che le foto sono ancora lì, spacciate per un aereo vero. Il tipo le aveva messe su it.wiki, ma le ha tolte "casualmente" dopo che lo hanno sgamato[7]

Cosa fare ? Si possono almeno rinominare e correggere la descrizione, così da evitare che altri le scambiano per foto di un aereo vero (come su es.wiki, dove nel frattempo una è stata aggiunta ad una voce come fosse una foto vera da un ignaro utente) ? Thanks for converting Category:Football into a disambiguation, Blackcat. I think it is the right call, and I believe it will ease the categorization of images. I really appreciate that. For essentially the same reason, I think you should consider converting Category:Rugby into a disambiguation as well. Just like "football", "rugby" is a family of codes, not a single sport itself. The only potential problem is that in some countries (such as my native United States) the difference between rugby union and rugby league is not well known. Anyway, I'll defer to your judgment on this issue, as I know you are a rugby union player and supporter yourself. Thanks again for what you did for the football category, and take care! Re Immagini istologiche 2: la vendetta

Mentre foto di vetrini che appartengono ad una scuola o università, previa autorizzazione? Cioè la mia ex scuola superiore (tranquillo non ho dovuto smuovere mari e monti) si è detta disposta a farmi fotografare anche tutti i vetrini che hanno dandomi, ovviamente, i permessi che servirebbero. Questo è fattibile o rientra sempre nel caso di immagini ottenibili in altro modo? Più che altro, quali altri modi esistono per procurarsi immagini di vestrini istologici? È questa la reale domanda che mi pongo.

Does this mean that pictures from that flickr stream can be uploaded to commons?. Regarding this and this edit, where did you get the idea that those names are "correct" and "more appropriate"? I know, we use strong encryption. ;-) Göteborgs universitet goes by "University of Gothenburg", while Örebro universitet goes by "Örebro University" (and by the way, it's Linköping, not Lynköping). Kungliga Tekniska högskolan seems to go by "KTH Royal Institute of Technology" on their website, but I think just "Royal Institute of Technology" is more widely used. (Kungliga means royal – compare kung/king. "Fakultet" (the definite form is "fakulteten", the plural is "fakulteter", and definite plural is "fakulteterna"). My understanding is that it has the same range of meaning as in English, from broadly referring to the teaching staff in general to referring to the formal organisational body, but I should note that I've had very limited contact with the Swedish education system after primary school. The categories over at the Swedish Wikipedia seem to use the term "Personer verksamma vid" ("People working at"). —LX (talk, contribs) 00:25, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

Ciao, questa immagine File:Acnil.jpg è stata caricata su Commons da un utente che si è autodichiarato "detentore dei diritti", tuttavia questa è una foto che è stata scansionata da un giornale dell'epoca (Il Gazzettino di Venezia) e che si trova anche in altri documenti, come ad esempio qui. IMO potrebbe forse (forse) rientrare in PD-Italia, visto che si tratta di foto di cronaca risalente a quasi 45 anni fa, ma dubito che abbia i requisiti per poter stare su Commons. Ho ragione? Hi, your revision of 08:55, 19 March 2014 changed the width to 100%. Since that the templates output does not look as users like it. IMHO it would be best to change the value "100" to "{{{width|90}}}", because 90% looks much better, and it can be individually set by the many other templates using it. In case you believe that 90% might not be enough, even a default value of 94 or 96% would do it better, with the option to adjust it individually. sarang♥사랑 05:18, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Sergio, when you change the 100 to "{{{width|90}}}" I will maintain the documentation. The parameter width has to be passed through from all the templates who want to modify it, but for the moment 90% will be fine.

Just one thing: A very small expansion for sorting the categories would be helpful. Because one parameter has to be passed through from the first template to the last one, all the six protected templates will need another admin treatment for that. Why do you still insist File:Akan people Mosaic.jpg kept, as explained it contains fake images. After notifying the up-loader a new version was uploaded replacing these File:Asamoah Gyan Thawb − Kandura.jpg and File:Kevin-Prince Boateng (KPB) Thawb – (Kandura).jpg fake ones. Hi, I don't understand this close of youre. If you look at John Naylor's Geograph profile, he's alive enough to be uploading images there in 2005. Let's suppose he is then aged 100. So in 1932, when he is taking this photograph, he is aged 7. That doesn't seem likely. If he's since died, 70 years have not elapsed since his death so his images are still copyrighted. I think what is more likely is that he has got these photos from somewhere and put them on Geograph, but he doesn't say where, which makes it difficult to identify the original photographer. Ciao! Sono in possesso di un libro pubblicato nel 1985 in Italia che contiene una raccolta di immagini scattate nella prima metà del secolo scorso. Queste immagini provengono o dalla raccolta fotografica dell'autore o da altre raccolte fotografiche e non sono foto artistiche. Foto cancellata

Sergio, hai lasciato il caviale e lo champagne? Bene, perché mi servi lucido... altrimenti poi non capisci quel che ti dico :) (lol)
Allora il problema è questo:
Oggi è stata cancellata una foto su una chiesa fatta da uno spagnolo (...o portoghese non so) e che io avevo collegato a due voci su it.wikipedia. Nella cronologia mi compare la seguente dicitura dicendo che un bot di Commons l'ha tolta dalle voci perché era stata cancellata da Túrelio qui; non ho ben compreso la motivazione, ma non è questo il punto. Il punto è che io ho trovato la stessa identica foto ma con esplicita licenza creative commons su flickr qui: [9] puoi controllare tu stesso che la licenza parla chiaro. Ma il problema è che Commons non me la fa più caricare perché automaticamente riconosce il file come cancellato e mi dice di cambiare foto... ma questa ha la licenza giusta! Ciao Sergio, oggi mi è arrivato un messaggio sulla talk di Commons dove mi si avvisa che il file della statua di Prometeo è stato messo in cancellazione perché privo di data e autore; io ho messo la licenza PD Italia perché quella foto è stata presa da un archivio di fotografie antiche su Siracusa. Purtroppo non sempre è presente l'autore o la data di quando la foto è stata scattata; ora quando la foto è in bianco e nero è palese che sia antica e quindi non c'è alcun problema ma quando invece è a colori c'è sempre il dubbio che non sia PD ma invece è PD! Perché ad esempio tutti gli oleandri presenti nella statuta di Prometeo oggi non esistono più: guarda la differenza con una foto moderna del Prometeo del parco archeologico: Prometeo credo si capisca a vista che quella foto ha più di vent'anni! Ma io non posso fornire la data esatta perché nell'archivio non era indicata... come mi suggerisci di rispondere a questa proposta di cancellazione? Ciao Blackcat, ho un dubbio: se carico delle foto di dipinti di autori morti da più di 70 anni devo mettere la licenza PD-Art o opera propria?

Richiesta di verifica

Vorrei chiederti un parere, quasi a titolo di arbitrato. Io disegno stemmi araldici e per farlo impiego, di norma, un software ad hoc prodotto in Francia. Le librerie di supporto integrate nel software contengono una serie di disegni tratti da originali facenti parte di un volume edito in Francia nel XVII secolo. Gli stemmi vengono poi caricati su Commons. Un utente di Commons ha sollevato il problema che io potrei aver violato il copyright del produttore del software perché ho caricato stemmi contenenti le immagini elaborate dal produttore (vedi discussione). Prima ancora di aver interpellato il produttore, un amministratore di Commons ha preso la decisione di cancellare oltre 300 stemmi (quelli sui quali avevo inserito il templare citato all'inizio della discussione) senza peraltro nemmeno verificare quali di questi stemmi contenessero le immagini in questione: molti, in realtà, presentavano solo forme geometriche. Nel frattempo il produttore, da me interpellato, ha dichiarato che lui non ha il copyright di quelle immagini perché fanno parte del PD a causa dell'età. Quando ho richiesto il ripristino degli stemmi, lo stesso utente che aveva sollevato il problema (l'amministratore rimane per lo più assente) sostiene che per risolvere il problema il produttore dovrebbe inviare un OTRS (tesi stavolta sostenuta anche dall'amministratore). Io ritengo che ciò non sia possibile, in quando per rilasciare un OTRS occorre detenere il copyright, mentre il produttore ha già detto che si tratta di materiale del PD. Il tutto senza considerare che non vedo come si possa obbligare qualcuno che non è utente di wekimedia a firmare un OTRS. A me sembra che si tratti solo di ostinazione nel non voler riconoscere l'errore fatto. A questo punto vorrei un tuo parere, anche in considerazione del fatto che se un domani io volessi continuare a disegnare stemmi potrei non avere più la possibilità di utilizzare il software specifico solo perché chiunque si sentirebbe in diritto di cancellare i miei disegni anche se contenessero solo forme geometriche o immagini estratte dal PD. Il problema non è relativo alla legge francese (che per quanto riguarda il PD è simile alla nostra), ma alla concezione del copyright su Commons. Quale copyright avrei violato, tanto da determinare la cancellazione dei files ? Questa è la domanda alla quale non mi è stata data risposta nella discussione che ti ho linkato. Chi ha il diritto di sindacare l'utilizzo di immagini nel PD da sempre e di applicare l'etichetta di derivatives or non-free procedendo poi alle cancellazioni ? Se quegli stemmi si fossero trovati su un altro sito esterno ai siti wikimedia e il responsabile di quel sito avesse rilasciato l'OTRS, ci sarebbero problemi per il loro caricamento su Commons ? Ho notato che alcune immagini prese da Gallica sono caricate con licenza libera perché di autore sconosciuto e scattate oltre 70 anni fa. Volevo chiederti se ciò vale solo per immagini pure, oppure se potevo ritagliare foto da pagine di riviste di oltre 70 anni fa (se non è indicato l'autore delle foto).
