File:Bensonac.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

I am wondering, I tried to import photos like this. However, I am blocked by the spam filter. how so? so I cant import these photos? Artix Kreiger (talk) 13:12, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

@Artix Kreiger: Sure you can, you just cannot use flic.kr or other url shorteners.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:14, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
Is there a way for flickr2commons to ignore parts of the description? Artix Kreiger (talk) 13:40, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
I don't know the tool, so I cannot answer your question. Suggest talking to the developer.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:41, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
ok question. bit.ly/1b3VS7i Maybe this coudl be added to the whitelist. Would this be ok? Green Giant tried but we don't know Regex so can help fix it? Artix Kreiger (talk) 17:57, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi again. May you please undelete the file description page and hide (if not delete) the hi-rez version? Thanks. George Ho (talk) 20:41, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the undeletion of the description. Can you also hide the 856px version please? Thanks again. George Ho (talk) 17:31, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

Not sure to what you are referring. I am only seeing one file here. If there is another file, then a ref wouldn't go astray.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:55, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
Oh... I was requesting a hide before FunkMonk deleted that version. So let's then disregard the latest request I made. George Ho (talk) 17:45, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Permission question

I notice that you tagged this image: File:Yess + Love = Bliss by Dorothy Tanner.jpg

As missing evidence of permission.

It had been tagged by: FlickreviewR 2 As having an acceptable license in Flickr. What am I missing? (ticket:2018030610171926) --Sphilbrick (talk) 15:00, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

@Sphilbrick: Two copyright aspects, the photography by Billard and the underlying Tanner aspects. Flickr will cover the Billard aspects, we need the evidence of the Tanner aspect.

On the image it is mentioned that there was a statement and though that was not shown as recorded in our system, so I labelled it as needing OTRS. [You have just said that it has an OTRS, so that seems an easy completion if it relates to the underlying artwork.] So my issue is not the copyright of the image at Flickr, it is more the copyright of the original item, whatever it is and whether the communications specifically covers both aspects.  — billinghurst sDrewth 19:35, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

OK, thanks. I agree and I'm following up regarding the copyright of the underlying art object. --Sphilbrick (talk) 18:21, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
I got follow-up from Dorothy Tanner.--Sphilbrick (talk) 19:57, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
Magic!  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:05, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Localisation request

In adding some authors, I found that a few were NOT out of copyright in their origin countries, and some still copyright in the US material had already been redacted. I am therefore requesting that in the interests of the precuationry principle, that this be localised to English Wikisource.

File:Armistice Day.djvu

I've asked you directly, rather than taking to this to a DR, as the issue isn't one of outright deletion as such.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 12:34, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi! I'm the author of This-is-kali.png image. Sorry about it being out of scope. I'm a security researcher and need a page like this to test a bug in a site. It would be helpful to temporary undelete the page so I can continue with my work. I have no malicious intentions, and I will delete this as soon as my employers can confirm the bug. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Securitytester337 (talk • contribs) 14:08, 14 August 2017 (UTC)

EDIT: there is no need to undelete this anymore, I finish what I needed to do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Securitytester337 (talk • contribs) 17:44, 14 August 2017 (UTC)

You could simply go to Commons:Undeletion requests next time. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 11:47, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

Banknotes.com and attribution

Since Banknotes.com won't be removed from the SpamBlacklist anytime soon should I upload images from that website with source attribution like https://www.banknotes.com/cn3.htm as using the "Nowiki"-tags means that the global spam filter doesn't work however it wouldn't really be an external link if users can't click on it, or should I simply state that it comes from an external source but not specify where as the images are already in the public domain so their source might be irrelevant(?????). I'm not sure if attribution for public domain scans are necessary, however since it was the owner of this website that wanted to have it on the SpamBlacklist because "people were stealing {their} images" I'm not sure if uploading without attribution is a good thing. In either case they don't have a legal leg to stand on as the scans are non-original 2D works which they possess no copyright over, see for example https://www.banknotes.com/CNS2731.JPG which has no watermarks and is a useful educational image. I'm just not sure if I should attribute PD files, if you can't answer this I would go to the help desk as you're usually the one who goes over items on the SpamBlacklist and I just found out that using "Nowiki"-tags is an easy way to bypass this BlackList and attribution was my main concern with uploading from here as I would rather not receive any legal threats from the owner. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 11:46, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

Give your feedback about changes to Special:Block

Hello,

You are receiving this message because you are a top user of Special:Block on this wiki. Thank you for the important work that you do. There is a discussion happening about plans to improve Special:Block with the ability to set new types of blocks. To get the best design and new functions added, it is essential that people who use the tool join the discussion and share their opinions about these changes.

Instead of a full site wide block, you would be able to set a Partial Block. A user could be blocked from a single page, multiple pages, one or more namespaces, from uploading files, etc. There are several different ways to add this feature to Special:Block. Right now Important decisions are being made about the design and function.

Please review the page on Meta and share your feedback on the discussion page. Or you can reach me by email Also, share this message with anyone else who might be interested in participating in the discussion.

I appreciate any time that you can give to assist with making improvements to this feature. Cheers, SPoore (WMF) (talk) , Trust and Safety Specialist, Community health initiative (talk) 02:00, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello there!

Hello Billinghurst!,

Since you told me that I've got a lot to learn about Mediawiki and Wikimedia commons, can you please tell me what I need to learn in order to contribute constructively to this wiki? I'd love to have your advice. --I eat bananas 101🍌 (talk) 02:05, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Unfortunately I don't have the time for personal tutorials. There is plenty of material around to read. When you have several thousand edits, and months of experience, then maybe you will be ready. You need to understand not just the policy, but the reason for the policy (ie. our principles), and their implementation for the benefit of the community. It should be a selfless approach.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:20, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Ping

Hello, FYI your ping at the ANB did not work. In case it might be useful in the future, here is the reason why. My understanding is if you would have reentered the 4 tildes together with the name correction, it should have worked. Cheers, — Racconish💬 06:17, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

OTRS

Hi Billinghurst. I declined a rename request, but another picture (the same one, but bigger) has OTRS-permission. Can you take a look at that? Ausschnitt means extraction. - Thanks. File:Ute Langanky (2018) Ausschnitt.jpg + File:Ute Langanky (2016).jpg (with OTRS-permission). - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 11:53, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

@Richardkiwi: I don't have OTRS at this time (haven't reapplied), so best to flick it to the OTRS team, especially as it is a transfer from deWP, so digging through that history relies on someone with also having access to deWP deletion history.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:33, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
Ok, but you added 'no permission'. See: here. I only see that the same picture (a bigger one, this one is cut out) has OTRS-permission. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 12:53, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
They can add it if they so choose; not for us to add it. There is a filter that will flag its addition by non-OTRS personnel.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:58, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

Declined rename request

Hi. Could you please elaborate on this edit? Why is misattribution of the subject (a reproduction painting titled as the original) not in compliance with the renaming guidelines? --Paul_012 (talk) 07:27, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

What is "obvious" that this is a reproduction? How can we rename the image yet leave all the information template unchanged? Not to mention the derivatives. If there is a series of renames then it needs a process of better documentation to justify the rename.  — billinghurst sDrewth 07:01, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
I've since modified the image description. Is this sufficient, or is a thorough sorting-out of the previous versions needed? --Paul_012 (talk) 07:31, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
I would recommend using the image's talk page to document the basis of the change of attribution. One thing to note is that the image may not be out of copyright depending on how much the image is reproduction, and how much is original thought.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:18, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Meta

Serious question but is there ever a chance I would get unblocked there? The only statement was "net negative contributor" and as I rarely see any indefinitely blocked users return what is actually required to be unblocked there? The Community Wishlist Survey is next week and neither will I be able to participate in it nor vote in it. Last year I had no issues participating in it but for whatever reason that doesn't seem to weigh on anything, could you at least explain to me how the unblock process at Meta works and point to a few successful cases before I will appeal again? I don't think that anyone there is willing to corporate. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 14:07, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

I didn't block you. I don't know. You will need to discuss it with MA. These are apparent consequences of actions taken.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:14, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Your denial of my deletion request

Dear Sir, Billinghurst, please look: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Silber_Reed_Colour_PenGraph_EB50_Plotter_-1005.jpg&action=history That file is not needed. This is not essential, but for information. --Sockenschütze (talk) 04:39, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

WikiAfrica photos

These were uploaded by User:Elitre in 2012 using User:File Upload Bot (Magnus Manske). Right after the upload Elitre removed the license and review, replacing them with Template:WikiAfrica/Ton Rulkens, which in a way was mass license forgery (though according to User:File Upload Bot (Magnus Manske)) the files actually did have that license).

Since some of these photos may disappear in 2019 (and Flickr reviews in templates were giving me other problems), I requested some 3000+ license reviews. For a few, that didn't work. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 04:55, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

Suresnes/Puteaux

Hello. About this :

  • Context : Suresnes and Puteaux are 2 cities with a border. On each border, there is a cemetery, only separated by a road. You can see on this map.
  • Copyleft took many pictures (and this one) in 2012 and probably tought that it was the same cimetary because they are next (I send a message to him few months ago but I didn't have a answer).
  • This summer, I went to those cemeteries, and I saw on Wikicommons that pictures of the 2 cemeteries were in the same category (Category:Cemetery of Suresnes). Problem : on the south of the road, this is the « Cimetière Voltaire de Suresnes » and on the north « Cimetière municipal de Puteaux ». So I created Category:Cemetery of Puteaux in order to give each picture the good place. It was easy to do for the majority of the graves, because the panorama shows clearly that we are in the cemetery of Suresnes, or in the cemetery of Puteaux. Some of the graves are famous and big, so it is easy too find them quick.
  • But for a minority of graves, it is very difficult to find where the picture was took because there are no panorama. After that I continue to walk in the both cemeteries to identify the graves, and I succeed to find some of them. So, you writes « There is no evidence that this is incorrect » but it is, I knew those city very well, I wrote a great part of the article about Suresnes in french Wikipedia. So I please you to accept to change the name and the descriptions (this one too) because, in this a mistake ! Those two photos are categorized in the cemetery of Suresnes, in spite of the fact that they are in the cemetery of Puteaux.

Thank you and sorry for my level in English... Celette (talk) 13:45, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

Hello. Could it be possible to have an answer ? Celette (talk) 23:08, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, not particularly active at the minute. That seems reasonable, please document on the talk pages the reasoning for the renames.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:55, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
Thank you. You mean that I have to write a message on each Discussion Page of the photos I want to rename ? But who will see that if I don't ping an user who can rename ? Can I not simply use the normal procedure to rename ? Celette (talk) 22:07, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
@Celette: In rename requests add [[special:permalink/330307185]] to the discussion here, sufficient evidence for renaming admin that this is a researched change rather than personal opinion. You could add it to each talk page, as that is more thorough though I believe we can just do a link to proof.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:35, 9 December 2018 (UTC)
Thank you. It is done. Celette (talk) 22:24, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

File:Barnack - KMB - 16001000154264.jpg

I invite you to reconsider your decision on renaming File:Barnack - KMB - 16001000154264.jpg "does not comply with renaming guidelines".

The request complies with the Criterion 3 "To correct obvious errors in filenames, including ... misidentified objects". The subject has been misidentified; it is not in the parish of Barnack but the adjacent village of Bainton. It depicts the Village Cross in Bainton which is a Grade I listed building. Thank you. Nedrutland (talk) 09:36, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

@Nedrutland: The thing is that it is not an obvious error, so it should go through a discussion. See Template:Fact disputed and related templates to see which label you feel most accurate for your scenario. Check with the uploader about the rename. Present a case on the talk page for comment, and if there is no disagreement then point to the conversation so an admin knows what is going on. Renamers should not be trying to weighing up a "he said vs. she said" issue.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:30, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
