Missgeschick

Mir ist ein kleines Missgeschick passiert. Ich habe die Weiterleitungsseite File:MKBler - 461 - Apelstein Nr. 31.jpg ausversehen zum Löschen vorgeschlagen, obwohl ich sie eigentlich schnell löschen wollte, damit ich das Bild File:MKBler - 458 - Apelstein Nr. 31.jpg dorthin verschieben lassen kann. Deleted image

Hi Archim55, I uploaded an image from Flickr to Wikimedia with a attribution-no-derivatives license, which I now understand is wrong per Wikimedia policy. I just want to call your attention to the fact that Upload Wizard includes that license as one of the usable ones, which is how I uploaded the image. It seems to me that the Upload Wizard should be fixed so that it does not waste the time of editors deleting images that already should not have been uploaded. Two images of the same painting in Commons

Thank you so much! I have learned more about the two images by sending email to ABN AMRO. Apparently Phil's 1910 painting of Sabang was a copy of the one in their image, not vice versa. Their image is a schoolroom poster, part of a series based on paintings by Johannes Gabriëlse (1881-1945.) Their statement is confirmed by online sources such as [1] So I will add the larger image of it from that link to Wikimedia and then try to do some better linking and explanations. Categorizing

Hi! I've moved those categories by technical motives, because I thought it would be better to organize the category. I moved all Ludwigs to Louis, but I could also have done the other way around. I just preferred the English version of the name. I hope I didn't cause any problem.

Why did I do this? Well, because it is more easy (at least for me) to search in a category, for example, in a family, between eight people named "Louis", condensed together, and there I can just go to the section "Lo" in the letter L in the family category to find all of them. It is better than searching between, for example, six Louis and two Ludwigs, in different sections of the letter L (respectively sections "Lo" and "Lu"). For big categories of families, like "House of Wittelsbach", "House of Hohenzollern", "House of Ascania", "House of Nassau", "House of Welf", "Rurik Dynasty" and "House of Piast", my method can really help in the search.

I hope you understand this. I'm thinking also in eliminating the dates in the persons' names and replacing them by titles owned. It is just more easy to search and find, for example, "Eleanor of England, Queen of Castile" than "Eleanor of England (1161-1214)", specially when someone doesn't know the exact dates. However, the dates aren't completely out of question: I think it would be good to address dates in categories of people that died in infancy or childhood, as an easy way of distinguishing those people from the rest of the family that lived adulthood.

I already put this in practice. See "House of Burgundy", "House of Estridsen", "House of Barcelona", "Jimena dynasty", "Astur-Leonese dynasty", "House of Blois", "House of Anjou", "House of Normandy", "Salian Dynasty", or "Hohenstaufen Dynasty".

Albeit not agreeing with my procedure you admit that there are pages with differences in name styles, in some way justifying my method. Sorry, I know you don't agree with my point of view, but if you think that my moves are in some way confusing, pro-english, or even agressive to this wiki, please tell me, and I'll stop them. I just followed the instructions on how to delete the badly named categories. E.g. for Category:Dakar Rally 2019 automobiles, {{bad name|Category:Dakar Rally 2019 automobile race}}. What is malformed in {{move cat|Dakar Rally 2019 automobiles|Category:Dakar Rally 2019 automobile race|reason=incorrectly named duplicate}}? Hello Achim55, a wikimedia admin named Jcb has been very unspecific and vague with deleting my image File:GlokkNine.jpg, he claims it is a violation of copyright and wikimedia, and told me here to read the rules COM:L. I read the rules of COM:L and it states wikimedia allows Wikimedia Commons only accepts media that are explicitly freely licensed, or that are in the public domain in at least the United States and in the source country of the work The bolded section is my argument, here is the source of my image of GlokkNine, the images source is a United States governmental mugshot, and is publicly available. The mugshot is avalaible on Orange County Police records and the official website states, " All of the photographs and records on this website are parts of public records. We are under no legal obligation to remove anything on this website. Publishers are NOT REQUIRED to obtain permission from anyone to post public records emanating from law enforcement agencies anywhere in the United States," So my image is basically not in violation at all, Jcb claims I am uploading copyrighted files when clearly it is a governmental image and I licensed it in the source. There are other rappers like the mugshots for Lil Pump, YNW Melly, and Wideneck. These aren't deleting yet my image is. With your permission, can I reupload the file GlokkNine.jpg image? I can't use the "upload a new version of this file" function because it redirects to the old upload form, which is able to handle only files that are up to 100MB. Asarelah, the problem is that the photo is already published at https://www.etsy.com/de/listing/691121616/sarah-coventry-1975-bostonian-classic. So we cannot recognise whether it is shot by you or simply grabbed from the web. In such cases our COM:OTRS procedure is required. By the way: the photo has no metadata and its resoution/size is very low (same for all of your uploads), so we assume that it is not by you but harvested from the web or scanned from an unknown book and thus will be deleted. Feel free to upload the original photo of, say, 2000 pixels. --Achim (talk) 13:37, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello! I'm a NOOB, and noticed you deleted a file I'd attempted to make into a category. I've now found the picture I'd previously wanted to associate which is how I stumbled upon your kind gift. I'm sorry for littering so to speak, but I also have some empty categories in the Hearst Castle category, and wondered if you remove those on the regular. Hi Dave, AFAIR I deleted gallery pages that looked like they should have been categories. Unfortunately there is no way (by technical reasons I assume) to move gallery pages to a different namespace. I just noticed that a lot of your categories have been deleted. Leave me a note if you want me to undelete some of them. A few hints: If you want to delete a page (gallery or category or whatever) that is named badly and was created by yourself just add {{speedy|reason}} on top of the page. In such cases there is no need using the "big" deletion procedure. Same for all pages in your own user namespace (except "User talk"). The other way round: If you want to prevent the deletion of a newly created category page you are about to fill, there are 3 templates that can be used: {{Underconstruction}}, {{CatDevelop}} or {{Prospective category}}. Just add one of them to your cat page and remove it when the job is done. All of these 3 mentioned templates are intended be used temporarily. Regards, --Achim (talk) 13:09, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

Hey Achim, what about screenshots of my own photos I should not have uploaded due to their poor quality? Is there a way to remove them such as the command for categories? David, The Category:Mezzanine Floor Doge's Suite - North Wing Duplex does exist, there are no uploads by now per search result. At first view I didn't notice low quality uploads made by you. Anyway, if you want one of your uploaded images to be deleted you can use {{speedy|uploader's request}} if a) it is uploaded by you AND b) it is not in use on any wiki (scroll down to "File usage" on the file page) AND c) it is a recent upload (not older than 1 week, in most cases max 2 weeks does work as well). If these condition are not given, a regular deletion request is required. Btw, the difference between a speedy DR and a regular DR is: The latter gives the opportunity to discuss the request or to hear others' opinions. If there is no need to discuss anything (typos or similar, complete list @ COM:CSD) the speedy procedure can be used.
If you have a better version of an uploaded image (better version of the same image, not better different image of the same depicted object) you can replace the uploaded one by clicking on "Upload a new version of this file". Best, --Achim (talk) 13:48, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Fort Harssens

Thanks for deleting the empty file. However, I have some pictures of this Dutch fort and I am unable to make a Category page for Fort Harssens. Zandcee, HotCat activated? If not: Voorkeuren → Uitbreidingen → [√]HotCat → Opslaan
If you look at a file page the category links have additional marks: (-) remove this cat, (±) change cat, (+) add cat. Using that (+) does work for not existing cats as well. Hallo Achim, da wir ein neues Logo haben, wollte ich dies gestern auf der Wikipedia-Seite anpassen. Jetzt hab ich zwei Probleme: Zum einen zeigt er in der File History immer noch die alte Version als "current" an (auf der Wikipedia-Seite wird zwar das richtige Logo angezeigt, aber sobald man draufklickt, kommt wieder das Alte. Und zum anderen wird mir seit heute angezeigt: This file may meet the criteria for speedy deletion. Es ist schon etwas merkwürdig: das "Spilostethus" endet auf -us, was nur selten femininum ist. Aber "furcula" klingt feminin, muss aber nicht unbedingt adjektivisch sein. Pons hat wie Stowasser "furcula" als "Stütze", also feminines nomen. Was mich aber wundert, ist Googles Buchsuche, die bei "Spilostethus furculus" 16 Treffer hat gegenüber 5 für "Spilostethus furcula". Aber auf Grund der Publikation von 2013 tendiere ich zu "furcula". Thus here are no text infos hosted, they belong to Wikipedia. b) Every month we delete dozens of (self-)promoting pages/texts/images of people who treat themselves as famous artists/actors/DJs/rappers/youtubers etc. This is not a social media site like facebook. Hallo Unbekannter, danke für deine Nachricht! Von mir aus kannst du ruhig weiterhin deine Romane in deine Sandbox schreiben. Lesen wird die ohnehin niemand. Sie fallen nur dem einen oder anderen Admin auf, der deine Edits im Missbrauchsfilter-Logbuch mit bisher 10 Treffern automatisch gelistet vorfindet und dann noch sieht, dass du auf en:wp gesperrt bist. Hier auf Commons gibt es keine Seiten für small talk, aber das weißt du ja schon. Deine Sandbox wurde ja auch weder gelöscht, noch zur Löschung vorgeschlagen. Das {{Off topic}} habe ich nur als Klick-and-post-Baustein vorsichtshalber gesetzt, damit du merkst, dass Off-topic hier auf Commons auffällt, und dass es je nach Namensraum ggf. auch revertiert oder gelöscht wird. Und deine Anspielung auf "newcomer" passt irgendwie nicht so ganz, wenn dein Account seit fast 4 Jahren besteht und du mehr als 700 Edits in den Wikimedia-Projekten hast. Aussi à moins qu'un administrateur confirme l'abandon de cette règle primordiale, je vous serai reconnaissant de bien vouloir rétablir les fichiers et la catégorie concernés comme vous les avez trouvés. D'autre part il a été demandé, il y a déjà quelque temps, de limiter le plus possible les redirections afin de soulager les serveurs informatiques; et cela représente beaucoup de temps de changer la catégorisation incorrecte lorsque les fichiers sont nombreux. Donc essayez, s'il vous plait, de respecter le travail des autres contributeurs en demandant des renseignements avant de modifier. Beim Stöbern habe ich gesehen, dass zu Verschiedenen Artikeln zu Marokko noch keine Commons-Categories existieren, obwohl die entsprechenden WP-Beiträge bereits seit längerem vorhanden sind (z. B. zu Tadla-Ebene, Doukkala(-Ebene), Gharb-Ebene, Souss-Ebene etc.). Könntest Du Dich freundlicherweise darum kümmern; ich selbst kann sowas nicht... Achim, die Interwikis zur 'Souss-Ebene' existieren, wobei ich nicht recht weiß, ob die engl. Fassungen 'Sous' (oder auch 'Suss') die geeigneten wäre, denn in Marokko hat die frz. Sprache eindeutig Vorrang vor dem Englischen... Ich würde also für 'Souss (Basin)' plädieren und eine Unterkategorie zu 'Souss-Massa-Draâ' einrichten...
