Looking for feedback on my funding proposal to work with UNESCO as Wikimedian in Residence[edit]

Hi all

I’m looking for feedback and endorsement for my Wikimedia Foundation PEG grant to be Wikimedian in Residence at UNESCO. I’d very much appreciate if you would have a look, I wonder if it can link in with Wiki Loves Earth in some way. The most relevant objectives to Wiki loves Earth are:

1. Train UNESCO and its partner organisations to contribute to Wikimedia projects: Provide UNESCO and its partners with the skills, tools, resources and connections to contribute to Wikimedia projects in a meaningful, measurable and sustainable way. To integrate into the Wikimedia community both online and by matching them with local Wikimedia organisations and volunteers for in person support and collaboration. The project will create and improve content receiving 100,000,000 views per year on Wikimedia projects, educate 1000 people in over 200 organisations to learn more about Wikimedia projects. This will include 500 newly registered users trained to contribute to Wikimedia projects and 500 articles formally reviewed by experts.
2. Make content from the archives of UNESCO and its partners available on Wikimedia projects: This project will facilitate the upload of 30,000 images, audio files, videos, data and other content to Wikimedia projects from UNESCO archives (24,000 images), UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and other sources including 10 organisations changing their content license to be Wikimedia compatible, a completed pilot project is outlined in the Goal section.

I ran a pilot project that resulted in the images found in the Wikimedia Commons category Images from the archive of UNESCO, here are a few examples relevant to Wiki loves Earth:

If you think this is a worthwhile project please click this link and then click the endorse button.

Many thanks

Expression error: Missing operand for <.[edit]

Hello everybody,

There are some problem in the upload compain of Morocco Campaign:wle-ma ane Uruguay Campaign:wle-uy with time zone or somthing like that we have this messege Expression error: Missing operand for <.

who can help us to resolve this problem ?.--Vikoula5 (talk) 09:46, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this is because not all templates are filled with contest dates, I'll look into it --Ilya (talk) 09:54, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And un other the flag of Morocco does not appear in this template Template:Wiki Loves Earth 2015/ma--Vikoula5 (talk) 09:52, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

hello. the template Template:Wiki Loves Earth 2015/ma is supposed to translate the template Template:Wiki Loves Earth 2015 into other languages. it seems that there are two languages to be used in en:Morocco. after the image is uploaded, the campaign would add the code of the country ;) so:

(if you use english text)

but:

(for images)

so, you do not need Template:Wiki Loves Earth 2015/ma, as this template is supposed to be about a language, not about a country --アンタナナ 10:27, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
A ok thinks アンタナナ, but we have an problem with this also Template:Country-flags|ma there are no flag, you can see it in the table of the countries participating in contests.--Vikoula5 (talk) 11:18, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've added your country to the template: [1] and now ma can be used [2] ;) --アンタナナ 11:32, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Verry good thanks, アンタナナ.--Vikoula5 (talk) 11:37, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And i'm waiting for Ilya, whene you can resolve the problem. please tell me how you do that.--Vikoula5 (talk) 11:37, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help: multilanguage[edit]

I am trying to set the campaign but I receive errors while clicking on uploading button. The problem is that the country code <> from language code and I would do the best to set 4 languages. regards. --Ilario (talk) 13:21, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Wiki Loves Earth is running[edit]

Hi,

Can someone check the dates on {{Wiki Loves Earth is running}}? Most seems to be out of date (2014 instead of 2015), I try to update for France but I'm not sure what timezone is used.

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 08:46, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PS: same thing for {{Upload campaign header Wiki Loves Earth before}} and {{Upload campaign header Wiki Loves Earth finished}} (2014 instead of 2015)

WLE Uruguay[edit]

Hello everyone! We are organizing WLE Uruguay and we desperately need an administrator to create a page for pics uploads. There are 12 protected areas in Uruguay. Who can help us out before May 1st, please? My technical knowledge is rather limited but I have spread the word and there are many people who want to take part in WLE Uruguay this year. Kind regards, --Roxyuru (talk) 23:08, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

hello! d'you mean that you want lists to be created? on wikipedia? @Base: , @Ilya: --アンタナナ 23:37, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Or is it about upload wizard campaign? --Base (talk) 18:12, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm now going to convert lists that does not have standart bot readable format with ids, upload links etc. --Ilya (talk) 08:21, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

International jury[edit]

Where can i find informations? --Nightflyer (talk) 21:18, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

it is going to be formed. Last year we asked each participating country to suggest a member to international jury --Ilya (talk) 08:22, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

(The ?) International Team[edit]

Hi. They say there's team of international WLE. E.g. it's mentioned in international rules as having the right to modify these rules. AFAIK WMUA hired a coordinator for the international part and that team as I understand is supposed to give him orders or information. And so on. Nevertheless I've tried several times but never found who these people actually are. Neither list of it's members nor how to join it and so on. It is not improbable that it's actually written down somewhere and I just overlook it. But for such a thing I'd expect more easiness to find the information. Rumors say that NickK, Ilya are there, perhaps also Polimerek and Romaine. But these are rumors. Looking forward for the answer, --Base (talk) 16:20, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

hello. have you read this? --アンタナナ 16:30, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Thanks for the link. Indeed I have not, but I doubt many people'd go as far as looking for the grant application (btw I don't see a link to there from here so a person is also supposed to know where to look. Well in my case I do know how to search for grant applications but I thought it should be somewhere not as far). But anyways that's still not exactly the thing. As I recall from the past the actual list of people in team and the list in a grant application might differ a bit. --Base (talk) 17:44, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Does cloudy skies count in this contest.[edit]

I have a panorama image of cloudy skies over Rego Park, NY 11374. I have not yet uploaded it yet, so, I just want to know if it counts in this contest? Doorknob 747 (talk) 15:19, 2 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rules varies country by country, but generally I expect photos which show something about the natural area, usually a landscape, sometimes animals or plants which typical (specially if lives only there or famous about it) for the reserved place. If the clouds are special over this park and nowhere else can be found similar, photo eligible for the contest, but more likely a photo about the sky doesn't characterize the park or its nature itself. Anyway, nice photos are welcomed always, even if they are not participate in the contest. Samat (talk) 19:52, 2 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

RegoPark is a name of a neighborhood. Doorknob 747 (talk) 20:20, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Where is this neighborhood? Is it w:Rego Park, Queens? If so, the USA doesn't participate in Wiki Loves Earth. Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 08:17, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is. Samat (talk) 09:11, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What is this all about?[edit]

Is this competition open to non-participating countries?--Leaderboard (talk) 16:25, 2 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is not clear for me that you would like to submit photos for the contest or would like to add a non-participating country to it. This is a federated contest, and it is organized on a country base. If your country is not in the list, nobody will offer a prize for your pictures in the frame of this content. If so, feel free to organize it in your country (probably only for next year)! Anyway, nice pictures are always welcomed on Commons, and there are other contest parallel for the uploaded photos (for example picture of the year). Samat (talk) 20:00, 2 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Expression error: Missing operand for <. part2[edit]

Hi all Could someone help the Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon for this Expression error ??.--Vikoula5 (talk) 19:18, 2 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tools[edit]

Hello. Did u have top uploaders tool like this one for this year?--Rašo 08:53, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Good question, this could be useful.
Meanwhile, there is wikilovesearth.org/stats (by country). And for WLE-fr, we have this tool for pictures by day : [3] (thank you EdouardHue).
Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 09:19, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We have this one from last year. I Think somebody need to put new parameters and will be in funktion for 2015.--Rašo 09:29, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Then, ping Danilo.mac (talk · contribs) who seems to be in charge of this tool. Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 09:46, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Expression error: Missing operand for <.[edit]

Hello everybody,

There are some problem in the upload compain of Jordan Campaign:wle-jo we have this messege Expression error: Missing operand for <.

same problem of morroco are resolved by @Ilya ping Ilya (talk · contribs)

jordan teem are happy to join contest this week --Bachounda (talk) 22:23, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

First you need to know if, and if yes what date the contest starts. Then this can be implemented. I also think you need to contact the international team first that you want to organise Wiki Loves Earth in another country as well which does not start in time. Also we need to know an end date as well. Romaine (talk) 14:46, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

International Prizes[edit]

Hi;

What's the prizes for the international competition ? --Touzrimounir (talk) 09:49, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

International jury[edit]

Hi, is there anyone who is able to share information with me about the int'l jury, or a website or discussion page? I'm the nominated jury member from Germany, and would appreciate to learn about co-members, timelines, and other elements of the framework. I asked Ilya on his talk page but did not get any answer. So a more institutional approach for a request on this page might be more fitting. Thanks, --Aalfons (talk) 15:21, 17 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with the upload wizard[edit]

Participants report that they do not see the Upload button on the first screen of the wizard. Does anyone have this problem too? I can't reproduce this bug, for me everything works normally. --Alexander (talk) 06:10, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshots showing the problem: Upload wizard does not load in Google Chrome, no Upload button in Firefox, the wizard shows the upload but does not proceed to the copyright information. We really need to solve this now, because many people will try to upload their photos tomorrow. --Alexander (talk) 16:49, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Romaine: , @Base: , @Ilya: can you do anything? --アンタナナ 16:58, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This is a bug we can't solve either. This is a problem that is deeper inside the software. I have created a bug for this at T100935 on Phabiractor. If you have additional information, you may add it to the bug page there. Romaine (talk) 13:31, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Romaine, thank you for looking into this. The problem was likely related to caching and should have been solved (at least, nobody complained since last evening). However, it will be good to have another opinion, or perhaps people who do all these changes behind the curtains will actually read the bug request and better understand which problems their actions may cause. --Alexander (talk) 21:01, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jury tool[edit]

The competition comes to an end, and we still do not have the jury tool that was advertised but never launched by the organizers. Since we have a rather strict time frame and thousands of photos to go, selection of the short list should start immediately. The Russian team will highly appreciate any advice on how to do it efficiently without scrolling through long galleries and simple manual copy-pasting of filenames. Perhaps other tools are aviailable? (those from WLM, unfortunately, do not work) --Alexander (talk) 06:22, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ilya: --アンタナナ 07:01, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Will it help if you have pages with sections and a dropdown under each thumbnail which lists the sections? You could split all the files up to several pages and distribute the work through multiple people. These people would rate it somehow into different sections. User:Rillke/gallery-sort.js would be such a tool; we used it for categorizing POTY candidates. You can try it on User:Rillke/gallery-sort-demo. Note, it is currently strict about its layout (section must be a link) and it needs the original file name in the wiki source markup (i.e. no redirects listed). It's just a naive tool but it also was easy to write and does everything transparently on wiki pages. -- Rillke(q?) 07:44, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds interesting, although what we actually need is a tool allowing that several people grade each image. Then the grades should be averaged, and a selection of images with the highest grades should go to the next round. I am currently talking to the German team that has their own java-based tools. If we are not able to use those, your proposal will be our only option. Thanks for bringing this in! --Alexander (talk) 07:55, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Alexander. I wrote an email to Rubin asking how many jurors do you have and their names or emails so I can give them access to jury tool. --Ilya (talk) 08:51, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Late Wiki Loves Earth contest[edit]

Hello. In Ecuador, we did not organize a WLE Contest on May. We have been analyzing our possibilites and with some help and maybe a grant, we could organize our WLE this year around October or November. Is there any problem with that or should we wait until next year? I read that times and deadlines may vary, but I am confused on if that means the international contest, or if it varies from country to country. Even if we can't make it to the international deadlines and hold the contest just in Ecuador, we'd love to know if that's possible, and maybe next year we organize it better to make it to the international part. Hoping to read from anyone soon. --Edjoerv (talk) 19:53, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The international contest is a contest in wich the top-ten from each country participate. So, you can organize WLE (or something similar) in October but pictures from Ecuador will not participate in the international one. Maybe you could organize Wiki Loves Monuments in October and then, WLE next year. --Millars (talk) 21:37, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
--Edjoerv (talk) 02:32, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(siento pero mi español es muy malo).
If WLM list is too difficult (which I understand, the situation is complicated in other “federal” contries too), couldn't you wait for next year ? I think it would be better. It's true that times and deadlines may vary but within a close range, I find October-November too far from the other countries.
